Trade Profile and GST Jurisdiction for Raghavan Colony, Ashok Nagar

Ashok Nagar's 10th Avenue is one of west Chennai's busiest shopping strips, with garment retailers, jewellers, electronics stores and bakeries radiating from Ashok Pillar along the numbered avenues. Most businesses are B2C retailers weighing the composition scheme against regular filing; the Rs.1.5 crore composition limit, quarterly CMP-08 payments and the annual GSTR-4 due 30 June recur in every consultation. That commercial character shapes the GST questions we see from Ashok Nagar every week — registrations, monthly returns, credit mismatches and departmental queries. We deliver GSTR-1 & GSTR-3B Monthly Filing for businesses in Ashok Nagar, and clients also reach us from KK Nagar and West Mambalam nearby. Documents move over WhatsApp, drafts are approved before filing, and a senior consultant reviews every submission, so distance from our office never dilutes the quality of the work.

GST jurisdiction for Ashok Nagar (PIN 600083): businesses here generally fall under the CGST Chennai South Commissionerate. We regularly represent clients from Ashok Nagar before this jurisdiction for registrations, clarifications and notice hearings, and can confirm your exact division and range from your GSTIN. State-jurisdiction cases are handled with the Tamil Nadu Commercial Taxes Department.
GST Compliance for Retail Shops in Ashok Nagar
A retail counter bills hundreds of small consumer sales a day, and GST treats them very differently from B2B trade. B2C turnover goes into GSTR-1 as consolidated rate-wise figures, exempt goods need a bill of supply instead of a tax invoice, and a mixed basket of taxable and exempt stock forces proportionate credit reversal under Rule 42. Departments now compare UPI and card settlements against declared turnover, so daily sales must reconcile with bank inflows. A specialist sets up your billing software with a verified HSN and rate master, evaluates the one percent composition option against regular filing, and keeps declared figures consistent before any mismatch query arrives.
A GST-focused Chennai practice provides GSTR-1 & GSTR-3B Monthly Filing in Ashok Nagar with senior review, reconciliation against portal data and written fee quotes from Rs.749, rather than template filings from anonymous online portals.
Why Us

Why Raghavan Colony, Ashok Nagar Businesses Choose ChennaiGST

Not a bulk-filing portal. A senior consultant knows your file, your jurisdiction and your deadlines.

Support Through Audits and Hearings

When an ADT-01 audit intimation or a personal hearing date arrives, we compile the records, prepare the reconciliations and draft the submissions, and coordinate closely with your authorised representative. You walk into the proceeding prepared, not improvising in front of an officer.

Every Return Reviewed by a Senior Consultant

No filing leaves our desk on a junior's judgement alone. A senior GST practitioner reviews your figures, ITC claims and tax computation before submission, so errors are caught at our table and not by the department months later through a notice.

Same-Day Response, Every Working Day

Send your query on call or WhatsApp and you hear back the same working day, usually within a few hours. When a due date is close or a notice has landed, waiting two days for a reply is simply not acceptable, and we know it.

Handholding for First-Time Registrants

A new GSTIN comes with obligations nobody explains at approval — the invoice series rules, displaying the registration certificate and GSTIN at your premises, and the first return cycle. We walk new registrants in Ashok Nagar through each of these so month one starts correctly.

Deadline Tracking Done for You

GSTR-1 by the 11th, GSTR-3B by the 20th, CMP-08 by the 18th after each quarter — we maintain a compliance calendar for every client and start chasing your data well before the due date, so late fees never enter the picture.

Cancelled GSTIN? We Handle Revocation Too

A registration cancelled for non-filing is not the end of the road. We bring the pending returns up to date, clear the dues and file the revocation application in REG-21 within the permitted window, restoring suspended and cancelled GSTINs to active status.

How It Works

Our Monthly Returns Process

Monthly data collection

At month end we remind you and collect sales invoices, purchase bills and credit notes in whatever format you maintain, including Excel, Tally exports or scanned copies.

GSTR-1 preparation and filing

We prepare invoice-wise outward supply details, validate GSTINs of your B2B customers, summarise B2C supplies and file GSTR-1 on the portal before the 11th.

ITC reconciliation with GSTR-2B

We download your auto-drafted GSTR-2B, match it against purchase records, and claim only eligible input tax credit so that mismatches do not trigger scrutiny notices later.

Tax computation and confirmation

We compute net tax payable after ITC set-off, share the working with you for approval, and generate the payment challan for any cash liability.

GSTR-3B filing and reporting

After your confirmation and tax payment, we file GSTR-3B before the 20th and send you both filed acknowledgements along with a one-page summary of the month.

Outcomes

What You Get

Practical outcomes our clients measure us by.

Closure Without Loose Ends

When a business winds up, proper cancellation and a timely final return ensure the file is genuinely closed, so no demand or late-fee computation resurfaces against you long after the shutters came down.

Peace of Mind Around Due Dates

The 11th and the 20th stop being days of dread. You approve a prepared draft, we file, and the acknowledgement lands on your WhatsApp — month after month, without drama.

Slips Settled Before They Become Notices

Where a genuine error is found in a past period, voluntary payment through DRC-03 before any notice issues closes the matter at minimal cost, instead of letting it ripen into a demand with penalty.

Fewer Departmental Notices

Consistent, reconciled returns give the department's matching systems nothing to flag. Clients who move to us after years of self-filing typically see scrutiny queries and mismatch notices fall away within a few filing cycles.

A Professional Face on Every Invoice

Correct, complete tax invoices signal a well-run business to customers, vendors and banks alike, quietly strengthening your credibility in every transaction where your paperwork is seen.

Tax Paid Under the Right Head

Getting IGST versus CGST and SGST right at the invoice stage spares you the painful cycle of paying the correct head again and pursuing a refund of the amount paid under the wrong one.

Why a Specialist Matters

With ChennaiGST vs Doing It Yourself

AspectWith ChennaiGSTDIY / Unattended
Record keepingEvery return, challan, acknowledgement and working paper archived in an organised folder, retrievable in minutes years later.Documents scattered across email, downloads and old phones; assembling records for a bank or an audit takes days.
Portal credentials and dataLogins handled by a small engaged team under strict confidentiality, with credentials stored securely and never passed onward.Passwords circulating on chats with freelancers and part-timers, and no accountability for who has accessed your business data.
Time costRoughly an hour a month to send data and approve drafts; the portal work, reconciliation and follow-up are ours.Hours every month lost to portal errors, JSON files, OTP failures and reworking figures — usually on the due date itself.
Keeping up with changesRate changes, portal updates and new thresholds such as the Rs.5 crore e-invoice limit are tracked by us and applied to your case proactively.Changes are discovered after the fact — often through a rejected filing, a blocked e-way bill or a departmental letter.
Refund claimsRFD-01 filed with complete statements and annexures, tracked from ARN to bank credit, with any deficiency memo answered promptly.Incomplete claims bounce back as deficiency memos while the refund sits unclaimed for months and working capital stays blocked.
Goods in transitE-way bills generated correctly and matched to invoices, so consignments pass roadside inspections without detention or penalty.A defective or missing e-way bill can mean detention at a checkpoint, with penalties that dwarf the tax on the consignment.

AAR Ruling

Project management consultancy for a public water project held exempt

Tamil Nadu Water Investment Company Ltd - AAR Tamil Nadu, advance ruling reported at 2019 (2) TMI 187 · 2019

The Chennai company provided management consultancy and detailed project report services to the Chennai Metro Water Supply and Sewerage Board for water related projects. It asked whether the service attracted GST. The Authority held that the supply was a pure service with no supply of goods involved, rendered in relation to a function entrusted to a municipality, and was therefore exempt from GST under the entry covering pure services supplied to government and local authorities.

Why this matters: Chennai consultants on government water and civic projects should test the pure services exemption before adding GST to their invoices.

Notification

Reverse charge list for inter-State and imported services

Notification No. 10/2017-Integrated Tax (Rate) dated 28.06.2017 · 2017-06-28

This notification lists the services on which the recipient, rather than the supplier, must pay integrated tax. Its most-used entry covers any service supplied by a person located outside India to a person located in India, which is how imported software subscriptions, foreign consultancy and overseas advertising are taxed. It also contained the ocean freight entry that the Supreme Court later struck down. Tax paid under this notification is paid in cash and then claimed as input tax credit if the recipient is otherwise eligible.

How we apply it: A Chennai company paying a foreign vendor for software, design or marketing services must self-pay IGST under this notification in the month of payment or invoice, whichever is earlier.

Portal Advisory

Credit taken in excess of GSTR-2B triggers an automatic intimation

GSTN Advisory dated 14 November 2023 — Form GST DRC-01C under Rule 88D of the CGST Rules · 2023-11-14

Where the input tax credit availed in GSTR-3B exceeds the credit available in GSTR-2B by more than the prescribed limit, the portal issues an intimation in Form GST DRC-01C. The taxpayer must reverse the excess with interest through DRC-03 or file a reply in Part B giving reasons, within seven days. If neither is done, the filing of the next GSTR-1 or Invoice Furnishing Facility statement is blocked.

How we apply it: Match your credit register against GSTR-2B before filing GSTR-3B, since an unexplained excess now stops your outward return.

FAQs

Frequently Asked Questions

Straight answers from practising GST consultants — based on the CGST Act, current CBIC notifications and day-to-day portal experience.

How much does GSTR-1 & GSTR-3B monthly filing cost in Ashok Nagar?
Our fee for GSTR-1 & GSTR-3B monthly filing in Ashok Nagar starts at Rs.749/month and is quoted in full before we begin — there are no hidden charges added later. The fee covers professional work end to end: document review, preparation, filing and follow-up until completion. Government fees or portal charges, where applicable, are separate and always shown to you upfront. For an exact quote based on your turnover and business type, call +91 - 9600 606 444 and a consultant will confirm it on the call.
What documents are required for GSTR-1 & GSTR-3B monthly filing in Ashok Nagar?
For GSTR-1 & GSTR-3B monthly filing you will generally need: Sales invoices or sales register for the month, Purchase invoices or purchase register, Credit notes and debit notes issued during the month, GST portal login credentials, Bank statement for the period, if reconciliation is needed. The exact list depends on your constitution — proprietorship, partnership, LLP or company — and on the specifics of your case. Send what you have on WhatsApp to +91 - 9600 606 444 and we will confirm within the same working day exactly what else is needed, so nothing is rejected later for a missing paper.
What is a B2C large invoice and what is the current threshold?
A B2C large invoice is an inter-state supply to an unregistered person exceeding the notified value threshold, which was reduced from Rs.2.5 lakh to Rs.1 lakh. Such invoices must be reported individually in Table 5 of GSTR-1 with the place of supply, instead of being merged into the consolidated B2C summary. The rule helps states track high-value consumer sales flowing across borders. If your Ashok Nagar showroom occasionally bills an unregistered customer from another state above Rs.1 lakh, your billing and returns process must flag it for invoice-wise reporting, or GSTR-1 validations and later scrutiny will surface the gap.
How does an ISD actually distribute credit among branches?
Distribution follows Section 20 read with Rule 39. Credit attributable to a single branch goes only to that branch; credit for common services is distributed among operational branches in the ratio of their turnover in the preceding financial year. The ISD issues an ISD invoice to each recipient GSTIN and reports the distribution in GSTR-6 by the 13th of the following month, after which the credit appears in each branch's GSTR-2B. IGST credit is distributed as IGST, while CGST and SGST credit is distributed as IGST to branches in other states. Excess distribution is recoverable from the recipient with interest, so the turnover ratios must be computed carefully each year.
What is the difference between CPIN and CIN, and how long is a GST challan valid?
When you generate a challan in Form PMT-06 on the portal, the system issues a fourteen-digit Common Portal Identification Number, the CPIN, which identifies the unpaid challan and remains valid for fifteen days. Once the bank receives your payment, a seventeen-digit Challan Identification Number, the CIN, is generated, comprising the CPIN plus the bank code, and the amount credits your electronic cash ledger. If a challan expires unpaid, simply generate a fresh one; no consequence follows. Payment modes include net banking, UPI, cards, NEFT or RTGS, and over-the-counter deposit up to Rs.10,000 per challan per tax period.
The portal auto-filled an interest amount in my GSTR-3B. Can I edit or dispute it?
The portal computes interest on delayed filings under Rule 88B and auto-populates it in Table 5.1 of the next period's GSTR-3B, with a break-up shown period-wise. The system value is based on your cash ledger debits and the days of delay, and while the field permits upward revision, reducing the system-computed figure will flag the return. If you believe the computation is wrong, for instance because a liability related to an earlier period was declared with correct interest already paid through DRC-03, pay what is correct and keep the working; the department can be satisfied later with the reconciliation. We verify these auto-computations for clients before every filing.
How should I raise invoices on foreign clients and report them in my returns?
You may invoice in foreign currency, but your GST records must state the value in rupees. An export invoice under LUT should carry the endorsement that the supply is meant for export under Letter of Undertaking without payment of integrated tax, along with your GSTIN, SAC code and the recipient's overseas address. In GSTR-1, these invoices go into Table 6A marked without payment of tax, and the turnover flows into GSTR-3B as zero-rated supplies. Match every invoice to a FIRC or bank credit. Our filing package for exporters in Ashok Nagar includes this export documentation at Rs.749 per month.
What is GSTR-2B and why does my consultant match it before filing?
GSTR-2B is an auto-drafted statement of the input tax credit available to you, generated on the 14th of every month from the GSTR-1 and IFF filings of your suppliers. Input tax credit in GSTR-3B can only be claimed for invoices appearing in GSTR-2B, so matching your purchase register against it before filing is essential. If a supplier has not uploaded an invoice, the credit must be deferred and the supplier followed up. This monthly reconciliation is included in our return filing service for businesses in Ashok Nagar.
Is ITC available on food, catering and canteen expenses for our factory staff?
Section 17(5)(b) blocks credit on food, beverages and outdoor catering, but with two useful exceptions. First, where you use catering as an input for making an outward supply of the same category, such as a caterer subcontracting another caterer, credit is allowed. Second, where providing the facility is obligatory for the employer under any law, credit is allowed; the classic case is a statutory canteen required under the Factories Act for factories employing more than 250 workers. Even then, credit is typically restricted to the cost borne by the employer, not amounts recovered from employees. Factories around Ashok Nagar should keep the statutory obligation documented in their credit file.
What is the late fee for filing GSTR-9 after the due date?
From FY 2022-23 onwards, the late fee is turnover-linked. For turnover up to Rs.5 crore it is Rs.50 per day (Rs.25 CGST plus Rs.25 SGST) capped at 0.04 percent of turnover; for turnover between Rs.5 crore and Rs.20 crore it is Rs.100 per day with the same cap; and above Rs.20 crore it is Rs.200 per day capped at 0.5 percent of turnover. The fee accrues until the date of filing, so delays get expensive for larger businesses. Filing before 31 December avoids the entire cost.
I paid my supplier only part of the invoice within 180 days. How much ITC do I reverse?
The reversal is proportionate. If you paid sixty percent of the invoice value including tax within 180 days, you reverse only the ITC attributable to the unpaid forty percent, reporting it in Table 4(B)(2) of the GSTR-3B for the tax period immediately following the expiry of the 180 days. Amounts settled through book adjustments, such as netting off mutual dues or debit notes for quality deductions reducing the payable, have been accepted as payment in advance rulings, so a properly documented ledger adjustment protects the credit. Retention money held under contract terms is the most common trigger we see in Ashok Nagar construction and job-work businesses.
What is the GST rate for restaurants and food delivery now?
Standalone restaurants, eateries and cloud kitchens charge 5 percent GST without input tax credit. Restaurants located in hotels where the room tariff exceeds Rs.7,500 per day fall in the specified premises category and charge 18 percent with input tax credit. Food ordered through e-commerce operators such as Swiggy and Zomato is taxed at 5 percent, with the platform liable to pay the tax on restaurant services supplied through it. A restaurant in Ashok Nagar paying 5 percent must remember that GST on its rent, gas and equipment purchases becomes a cost, since credit is barred.
Can my GST registration be cancelled for not filing returns?
Yes. Under Rule 21A, the department can suspend a GSTIN where returns are not filed for a continuous period, and Section 29 permits cancellation where a regular taxpayer has not filed returns for six months (two quarters for QRMP, and a composition taxpayer defaulting on the annual return beyond three months). During suspension you cannot issue tax invoices or file returns, which freezes the business. If cancellation happens, revocation must be sought through REG-21 within 90 days after clearing all dues. If you have received a suspension notice in Ashok Nagar, call +91 - 9600 606 444 immediately.
By when must I issue a tax invoice when I sell goods?
For goods, Section 31 requires the tax invoice to be issued before or at the time of removal of the goods, where the supply involves movement, or before or at the time of delivery or making the goods available in other cases. In simple terms, the invoice must travel with the goods; a lorry leaving your Ashok Nagar godown without an invoice is exposed to detention even if the e-way bill exists. For continuous supplies of goods with successive statements or payments, the invoice must be issued when each statement is issued or each payment is received.
Can I transfer cash ledger balance from one GSTIN to another GSTIN of the same PAN?
Yes, within limits. Under Section 49(10), unutilised IGST and CGST balances in the electronic cash ledger can be transferred through PMT-09 to the cash ledger of a distinct person, that is, another GSTIN registered on the same PAN in the same or another state. SGST balances cannot be moved across states in this manner. The transfer is not permitted if the transferring GSTIN has any unpaid liability standing in its electronic liability register. Multi-state businesses headquartered in Ashok Nagar use this to shift idle deposits to the branch that actually needs the cash, avoiding fresh working capital outflow.
What is the difference between a GST credit note and a commercial credit note?
A GST credit note is issued under Section 34, is reported in GSTR-1, and reduces your output tax, with the buyer reversing equivalent input credit. A commercial or financial credit note adjusts only the money owed between the parties; it carries no GST, is not reported in returns, and leaves everyone's tax position untouched. Businesses use commercial credit notes when the 30 November deadline has passed, or for post-supply discounts that do not satisfy the statutory conditions for a tax adjustment. Choosing the wrong instrument is a frequent audit finding, so decide the type before the note is issued.
What GST do hotels charge on room tariffs after the 2025 rate changes?
From 22 September 2025, hotel accommodation with a value of supply up to Rs.7,500 per unit per day attracts 5 percent GST without input tax credit, and accommodation above Rs.7,500 attracts 18 percent with input tax credit. The earlier 12 percent slab for mid-range rooms was abolished in the rate rationalisation. Tax applies on the actual transaction value charged, so a discounted rate below Rs.7,500 falls in the 5 percent bracket even if the printed tariff is higher. Hotels should reconfigure billing software slab-wise and watch the ITC restriction on the 5 percent category, which changes costing materially.
How does GST work on lorry freight paid to a goods transport agency?
A goods transport agency, identified by its issue of a consignment note, is taxed in one of two ways. By default, specified recipients such as companies and registered persons pay 5 percent under reverse charge on the freight and can claim it as ITC. Alternatively, the GTA may opt to pay tax itself under forward charge, at 5 percent without ITC or 18 percent with ITC after the September 2025 rate rationalisation replaced the earlier 12 percent option, by filing the prescribed declaration for the financial year; the invoice should state this option. Transport by an individual lorry owner without a consignment note is not a GTA service and is exempt. Check each transporter's invoice wording before deciding who pays the tax.
Can I get GSTR-1 & GSTR-3B monthly filing done online without visiting the office?
Yes, the entire process can be handled online. You share scanned documents on WhatsApp or email, we prepare and file everything on the GST portal, and you receive the acknowledgement and filed copies digitally. Businesses in Ashok Nagar regularly complete monthly returns with us without a single office visit. If a physical verification or personal hearing is required by the department, we guide you through it.
Are there any hidden charges for GSTR-1 & GSTR-3B monthly filing?
No. The fee quoted before we start is the fee you pay. Government fees, portal charges or statutory late fees, where they apply, are separate and disclosed to you in advance with the exact amount. We issue a proper GST invoice for our professional fee. If the scope of work changes — for example, an unexpected notice or additional periods — we tell you the revised fee before doing anything further.
Do you provide gst return filing for small businesses and proprietorships in Ashok Nagar?
Yes. A large share of our clients in Ashok Nagar are proprietors, small traders, shop owners, freelancers and family businesses rather than large companies. The fee of Rs.749/month and the process are the same regardless of size, and we explain the compliance position in plain language — in Tamil or English — so you understand what is being filed on your behalf and why.
