Trade Profile and GST Jurisdiction for Ayanavaram

GST does not distinguish between a large showroom and a small service unit — the due dates and matching systems apply equally to both. Ayanavaram sits beside the Integral Coach Factory's Carriage Works, and machining shops, hardware stores, printing units and provision retailers line Konnur High Road and Ayanavaram Road up to the ESI Hospital junction. Workshops supplying the Carriage Works have 2 per cent GST TDS deducted on contracts, so accepting GSTR-7 credits and keeping tender billing clean is the locality's recurring compliance chore. That is why our ASMT-10 Scrutiny Reply engagements in Ayanavaram follow the same discipline whatever the client's size: written checklists, reconciliation before filing and every acknowledgement archived. Businesses from Perambur and Villivakkam run on the same process, entirely over WhatsApp if they prefer.

GST jurisdiction for Ayanavaram (PIN 600023): businesses here generally fall under the CGST Chennai North Commissionerate. We regularly represent clients from Ayanavaram before this jurisdiction for registrations, clarifications and notice hearings, and can confirm your exact division and range from your GSTIN. State-jurisdiction cases are handled with the Tamil Nadu Commercial Taxes Department.
GST for Printing and Packaging Units in Ayanavaram
Printing turns on who supplies the content: when the customer provides the matter and you supply paper and ink, the transaction is a printing service, but printing on customer-supplied paper is job work with its own rates. The output rates diverge sharply too, with printed books nil-rated, brochures and leaflets at 5 percent, and cartons and corrugated boxes reduced to 5 percent from 22 September 2025. Misclassifying between goods chapters and service codes is the commonest audit finding in this trade. A specialist settles the goods-versus-service call for each product line, applies the right HSN or SAC, and documents job work flows with proper challans.
Businesses in Ayanavaram typically choose professional ASMT-10 Scrutiny Reply because reconciled, senior-reviewed filings from Rs.3,999 prevent the late fees, lost credit and mismatch notices that self-filing commonly produces.
Why Us

Why Ayanavaram Businesses Choose ChennaiGST

Not a bulk-filing portal. A senior consultant knows your file, your jurisdiction and your deadlines.

✓

Job Work Movements Tracked Through ITC-04

Goods sent to job workers must move on delivery challans, return within the statutory period, and be reported in ITC-04. We track every outward and return leg for manufacturing clients in Ayanavaram, so inputs sent out for processing never quietly convert into a deemed supply carrying tax and interest.

✓

Strict Data Confidentiality

Your sales figures, supplier lists and login credentials are handled only by our engaged team, stored securely and never shared with any third party. Many of our clients in Ayanavaram compete with each other; complete confidentiality is a condition of our work.

✓

Free Health Check of Your Past Filings

Every new client receives a review of their recent returns before we file anything — unclaimed credit, GSTR-1 versus GSTR-3B drift, and exposures worth correcting quietly. Businesses in Ayanavaram often discover in this first review exactly why their previous arrangement was costing them money.

✓

E-Invoice and E-Way Bill Fluency

E-invoicing is mandatory once turnover crosses Rs.5 crore and e-way bills apply to goods movements above Rs.50,000. We set up, train and troubleshoot both systems, so your despatches from Ayanavaram are never held up by a compliance gap at the gate.

✓

Multi-GSTIN and Branch Coordination

Businesses with registrations in more than one State, or multiple branches under one PAN, face cross-charge, stock transfer and input service distribution questions that single-GSTIN firms never see. We keep all your registrations consistent with each other, not just compliant individually.

✓

Deadline Tracking Done for You

GSTR-1 by the 11th, GSTR-3B by the 20th, CMP-08 by the 18th after each quarter — we maintain a compliance calendar for every client and start chasing your data well before the due date, so late fees never enter the picture.

How It Works

Our Scrutiny Reply Process

Discrepancy mapping

Each item in the ASMT-10 annexure is mapped to its source, whether a GSTR-1 versus 3B gap, a 2B excess, or an e-way bill mismatch.

Reconciliation build

We rebuild the numbers from invoices and registers, identifying timing differences, amendments and credit notes that legitimately explain the gaps the officer has computed.

Accept or explain decision

For each discrepancy we advise whether to explain with evidence or accept and pay, so the reply concedes nothing that is actually defensible.

ASMT-11 filing

The reply is drafted with annexures, approved by you, and filed in Form ASMT-11 within the thirty-day limit, with DRC-03 attached for any admitted amount.

Closure follow-up

We pursue the officer for the acceptance order in ASMT-12, respond to any further queries, and document the closure to protect you in future proceedings.

Why a Specialist Matters

With ChennaiGST vs Doing It Yourself

AspectWith ChennaiGSTDIY / Unattended
Risk of noticesGSTR-1, GSTR-3B and GSTR-2B reconciled before filing, removing the mismatches that trigger most scrutiny notices.Inconsistent figures across returns quietly build a mismatch history that surfaces later as ASMT-10 scrutiny or a demand notice.
Record keepingEvery return, challan, acknowledgement and working paper archived in an organised folder, retrievable in minutes years later.Documents scattered across email, downloads and old phones; assembling records for a bank or an audit takes days.
Time costRoughly an hour a month to send data and approve drafts; the portal work, reconciliation and follow-up are ours.Hours every month lost to portal errors, JSON files, OTP failures and reworking figures — usually on the due date itself.
Refund claimsRFD-01 filed with complete statements and annexures, tracked from ARN to bank credit, with any deficiency memo answered promptly.Incomplete claims bounce back as deficiency memos while the refund sits unclaimed for months and working capital stays blocked.
Portal credentials and dataLogins handled by a small engaged team under strict confidentiality, with credentials stored securely and never passed onward.Passwords circulating on chats with freelancers and part-timers, and no accountability for who has accessed your business data.
Due-date trackingA maintained compliance calendar with internal cut-offs days before the 11th and the 20th; we chase you for data, not the other way around.Deadlines remembered from memory or phone alarms; one busy week and the return slips past the due date.
Case Law & Notifications

What the Department and the Courts Have Said — relevant to Ayanavaram businesses

We track every notification, circular and judgment that changes a filing position, so your returns and replies reflect the current law.

Notification

Packaged food staples settled at 5 per cent

Notification No. 9/2025-Central Tax (Rate), dated 17 September 2025, Schedule I, Chapters 4 to 21 · 2025-09-17

Schedule I places butter, ghee and other dairy fats, cheese, condensed and concentrated milk, yoghurt, pre-packaged and labelled curd, lassi and buttermilk, natural honey, roasted coffee, pasta and seviyan, namkeens, bhujia and mixture, ice cream and other edible ice, biscuits, sauces and most processed foods at five per cent. Chena and paneer, ultra-high temperature milk and Indian breads are fully exempt under the companion exemption notification, so the food chain now runs at either nil or five per cent.

What to do about it: Supermarkets and food distributors in Chennai should be charging five per cent or nil on almost their entire grocery range from 22 September 2025.

Portal Advisory

Portal now asks you to explain the gap between GSTR-1 and GSTR-3B

GSTN Advisory dated 29 June 2023 — online compliance in Form GST DRC-01B under Rule 88C of the CGST Rules · 2023-06-29

Where the liability declared in GSTR-1 for a tax period exceeds the liability paid through GSTR-3B beyond the prescribed limit, the system issues an intimation in Form GST DRC-01B. The taxpayer must either pay the difference with interest through Form DRC-03 or file a reply in Part B of DRC-01B explaining the reasons, within seven days. If no action is taken, the next GSTR-1 cannot be filed.

Practical effect: Reconcile GSTR-1 with GSTR-3B every month, because an unanswered DRC-01B will block your next outward return.

AAR Ruling

Credit denied on branded giveaways and trade loyalty programme rewards

Sanofi India Ltd — AAR Maharashtra, Order No. GST-ARA-115/2018-19, dated 24 April 2019 · 2019-04-24

The pharmaceutical company distributed pens, diaries, notepads and other brand reminders to doctors and stockists, and also gave rewards under a trade loyalty programme for its distributors. The Maharashtra Authority for Advance Ruling held that these items were supplied free of charge and fell within the bar on credit for goods disposed of by way of gift under Section 17(5)(h), so input tax credit on their procurement was not admissible despite the business promotion purpose.

What it means for you: Reverse credit on branded giveaways and loyalty rewards, or expect the department to raise the point during scrutiny.

Free Tool

Already Holding the Notice? Read It in About a Minute

Upload the PDF to our free GST Notice Analyser. It identifies which of 34 notice types you have, pulls out the DIN, GSTIN and tax period, reads the reply date printed on the notice and tells you plainly whether that date has already passed — along with the documents and reconciliations you will need. No payment, no account. If the notice does not state a date we can read, it says so rather than guessing one for you.

Analyse my notice — free WhatsApp it to a consultant

The analyser reports what your notice says and the statutory position for that form. It is not a substitute for a consultant reading your actual records, and a reply should be reviewed before you file it.

FAQs

Frequently Asked Questions

Straight answers from practising GST consultants — based on the CGST Act, current CBIC notifications and day-to-day portal experience.

What is the process for ASMT-10 scrutiny reply?
The process runs in clear stages: Discrepancy mapping; Reconciliation build; Accept or explain decision; ASMT-11 filing. A senior consultant reviews your file at each stage rather than passing it to a data-entry desk, and you receive a confirmation with the filed documents once it is complete. You always know which stage your work is at — we update you on WhatsApp instead of leaving you to follow up.
Can I get ASMT-10 scrutiny reply done online without visiting the office?
Yes, the entire process can be handled online. You share scanned documents on WhatsApp or email, we prepare and file everything on the GST portal, and you receive the acknowledgement and filed copies digitally. Businesses in Ayanavaram regularly complete scrutiny reply with us without a single office visit. If a physical verification or personal hearing is required by the department, we guide you through it.
I agree with part of the ASMT-10 discrepancy but not all of it. How do I respond?
A split response is perfectly acceptable and often the wisest course. Pay the portion you accept through Form DRC-03 with interest at 18 percent per annum, and in your ASMT-11 reply state the payment details along with a reasoned explanation for the balance, supported by reconciliations, invoices and ledger extracts. Paying the admitted amount voluntarily at the scrutiny stage avoids penalty on it under Section 73 and shows bona fides, which helps the officer accept your explanation on the disputed part. ChennaiGST prepares this admit-and-contest working for Ayanavaram businesses so nothing is conceded unnecessarily; call +91 - 9600 606 444 to review your notice.
How many days do I get to reply to an ASMT-10 notice?
The reply in Form ASMT-11 must be filed within thirty days of being informed of the discrepancies, or within such further time as the officer permits. If you need more time to gather reconciliations, write to the officer seeking an extension before the deadline instead of staying silent. The thirty days pass quickly because a proper reply needs invoice-level matching of GSTR-1, GSTR-3B, GSTR-2B and your books, so start compiling data the day the notice arrives. ChennaiGST typically completes the reconciliation and files the ASMT-11 well within the window for Ayanavaram clients; call +91 - 9600 606 444 if your deadline is close.
How will I know my scrutiny reply has been accepted by the GST officer?
If your explanation in ASMT-11 is found acceptable, the officer issues Form ASMT-12 informing you that the discrepancies stand explained and no further action is required on those points. The order appears in your Additional Notices and Orders tab on the portal. Keep the ASMT-12 safely with your reconciliation working papers, because the same period can still come up in a later audit and the closure order is your best shield. If instead the officer is not satisfied, expect a DRC-01A or show cause notice. Many Ayanavaram clients receive ASMT-12 within weeks when the reply is complete and well-annexed.
I received an ASMT-10 scrutiny notice for my Ayanavaram business. What exactly is it?
ASMT-10 is a notice issued under Section 61 after the officer scrutinises your filed returns and finds discrepancies, such as differences between GSTR-1 and GSTR-3B, excess ITC compared with GSTR-2B, or turnover gaps against e-way bill data. It is not yet a demand; it is an opportunity to explain. You must respond in Form ASMT-11 within thirty days, either justifying each discrepancy with reconciliations or accepting the liability and paying through DRC-03. A well-documented ASMT-11 usually closes the matter with an ASMT-12 acceptance order. Scrutiny notices are common among Ayanavaram traders, so respond seriously but without panic.
What happens if I do not reply to an ASMT-10 scrutiny notice?
If no satisfactory explanation is filed within thirty days, or you fail to correct the discrepancies, the officer can escalate the matter to a departmental audit under Section 65, a special audit under Section 66, an inspection under Section 67, or straightaway initiate a demand under Section 73 or Section 74. In practice, unanswered ASMT-10 notices convert into DRC-01A intimations and then show cause notices, where penalties and hearings enter the picture. Replying at the scrutiny stage is the cheapest point to close an issue, because you are only explaining, not yet defending a demand. Do not let the window lapse.
Who can help me reply to a GST scrutiny notice near me?
Look for a practitioner who handles scrutiny replies regularly, not just return filing, because an ASMT-11 stands or falls on the quality of its reconciliations. ChennaiGST assists businesses in Ayanavaram and across Chennai with the complete cycle: reading the ASMT-10, extracting the portal data, matching GSTR-1, GSTR-3B, GSTR-2B and books, drafting the reply, paying any admitted amount in DRC-03 and following up until the ASMT-12 closure order. Fees start at Rs.3,999 depending on the number of discrepancy points. Share the notice on +91 - 9600 606 444 and we will confirm the scope and timeline the same day.
What is the difference between DRC-01A and DRC-01 in GST?
DRC-01A is a pre-show-cause intimation. In Part A the officer communicates the tax, interest and penalty he has ascertained and gives you a chance to pay or explain before formal proceedings begin; you can respond through Part B of the same form. DRC-01, by contrast, is the summary of a formal show cause notice under Section 73 or Section 74, which starts adjudication and must be answered in Form DRC-06. Handling the DRC-01A stage well can close a matter quietly, whereas a DRC-01 requires a full legal defence. Send us the document on +91 - 9600 606 444 and we will tell you which stage you are at.
What are the conditions under Section 16 I must satisfy before claiming any input tax credit?
Section 16(2) prescribes cumulative conditions: you must hold a valid tax invoice or debit note, you must have actually received the goods or services, the supplier must have paid the tax to the government, and you must have filed your GSTR-3B. Added to these, the invoice must appear in your GSTR-2B and must not be restricted there. In practice this means a genuine purchase can still fail the test if your supplier defaults. We advise businesses in Ayanavaram to maintain proof of receipt, such as delivery challans and goods inward registers, because officers increasingly demand evidence of actual receipt during verification.
How do I check whether any GST notices have been issued to my business?
Log in to gst.gov.in and go to Services, then User Services, then View Notices and Orders for registration-related communications. Crucially, adjudication notices such as ASMT-10, DRC-01A and DRC-01 appear under a separate tab called View Additional Notices and Orders, which many taxpayers never open. Also verify that the email and mobile number on your registration are current, since the portal sends alerts there. We advise Ayanavaram businesses to check both tabs at least once a month, because a reply deadline starts running from the date of issue on the portal, not from when you happen to see it.
Who must sign GST filings with a DSC, and who can use EVC?
Companies and limited liability partnerships must authenticate registration applications and returns with a Digital Signature Certificate of the authorised signatory; the Electronic Verification Code route is not ordinarily available to them, though the government has periodically allowed EVC for companies during specified relaxation windows. Proprietorships, partnerships, HUFs and trusts can freely use EVC, an OTP sent to the authorised signatory's registered mobile and email. The DSC must be a Class 3 signature registered on the portal against the signatory's PAN. If a company's filings fail at the signing step, an expired or unregistered DSC is the usual culprit.
Are hospital and clinic charges exempt from GST?
Healthcare services provided by a clinical establishment, an authorised medical practitioner or paramedics are exempt from GST. This covers diagnosis, treatment and care for illness, injury, deformity or pregnancy in any recognised system of medicine in India, and includes transportation of patients by ambulance, which is separately exempt for any provider. Consultation fees, surgery charges, nursing and diagnostic services within this definition carry no GST, which is why hospitals do not charge tax on treatment bills. The exemption attaches to the nature of the service, not the size of the hospital, so both a large corporate hospital and a single-doctor clinic are covered.
We sponsored a trade event. Does reverse charge apply to the sponsorship amount?
If your business is a body corporate or partnership firm, sponsorship services received are notified under Section 9(3) and you must pay 18 percent GST under reverse charge, with ITC available since sponsorship is a marketing expense. One recent change matters: with effect from 16 January 2025, sponsorship services provided by a body corporate were moved to forward charge, so if the event organiser billing you is a company, it now charges GST on its invoice and RCM does not apply. Where the provider is a proprietor, trust or society, RCM continues. Verify the organiser's constitution before booking the entry, and raise a self-invoice where the provider is unregistered.
I returned an advance because the deal was cancelled. What document do I issue?
It depends on how far the paperwork went. If you had issued only a receipt voucher and no tax invoice, you issue a refund voucher under Rule 51 when returning the advance, and the tax paid on that advance can be adjusted. If a tax invoice had already been issued, the cancellation is handled through a credit note under Section 34 instead. The refund voucher records the original receipt voucher reference, the amount refunded and the tax involved. Event managers and contractors see cancellations regularly, and using the wrong document between these two is a common reconciliation error.
What are OIDAR services under GST and who pays the tax on them?
OIDAR means Online Information Database Access or Retrieval services, delivered over the internet, such as cloud services, e-books, streaming, online advertising and automated e-learning. When a foreign OIDAR provider supplies these to unregistered persons in India, the foreign provider itself must take a simplified registration in Form REG-10 and file monthly return GSTR-5A. From 1 October 2023, the definition was widened, so almost every unregistered Indian recipient is covered. When the Indian recipient is GST-registered, the tax instead falls on the recipient under reverse charge as an import of services.
My footwear shop sells chappals at Rs.300 and shoes at Rs.4,000 on the same bill. How do I invoice this?
One invoice can comfortably carry both rates. Each pair is tested against the Rs.2,500 sale-value threshold independently, so the chappals are billed at 5% and the Rs.4,000 shoes at 18%, as separate line items under their footwear HSN codes in Chapter 64. Your GSTR-1 HSN summary will then show turnover split across the two rates. Ensure the billing software picks the rate from the item price automatically rather than from a fixed product master, because the same article sold at different price points can legitimately fall in different slabs. A quick POS configuration check prevents months of wrong-rate billing; call +91 - 9600 606 444 to arrange one.
Is the late fee charged on delayed returns the same thing as a penalty?
No, they are legally distinct. Late fee under Section 47 is an automatic, fixed daily charge for filing a return after its due date, computed by the portal and payable in cash before the return is accepted; no officer discretion or notice is involved. Penalty, under provisions such as Sections 122 to 125, is imposed through adjudication for specified offences, requires a show cause notice and hearing, and can be contested or reduced. Interest under Section 50 is a third, separate levy compensating for delayed payment. A delayed return with tax due can therefore attract all three simultaneously, each on its own footing.
Do you provide asmt 10 notice reply for small businesses and proprietorships in Ayanavaram?
Yes. A large share of our clients in Ayanavaram are proprietors, small traders, shop owners, freelancers and family businesses rather than large companies. The fee of Rs.3,999 and the process are the same regardless of size, and we explain the compliance position in plain language — in Tamil or English — so you understand what is being filed on your behalf and why.
Which GST office handles Ayanavaram businesses?
Businesses in Ayanavaram (PIN 600023) generally fall under the CGST Chennai North Commissionerate, with state-jurisdiction cases handled by the Tamil Nadu Commercial Taxes Department. Your exact division and range can be confirmed from your GSTIN on the GST portal. We regularly appear before this jurisdiction for registrations, clarifications and hearings, so we know the local practice and documentation preferences.
Are there any hidden charges for ASMT-10 scrutiny reply?
No. The fee quoted before we start is the fee you pay. Government fees, portal charges or statutory late fees, where they apply, are separate and disclosed to you in advance with the exact amount. We issue a proper GST invoice for our professional fee. If the scope of work changes — for example, an unexpected notice or additional periods — we tell you the revised fee before doing anything further.
