Trade Profile and GST Jurisdiction for Jagannathapuram, Chetpet

If you operate in Chetpet, GST deadlines arrive with the same force as anywhere in Chennai — GSTR-1 by the 11th, GSTR-3B by the 20th. Chetpet pairs premium healthcare with corporate offices: specialty hospitals and clinics cluster around Spur Tank Road while cafes, boutiques and professional firms occupy Harrington Road and McNichols Road. Landlords letting commercial space and clinics with mixed exempt and taxable income dominate the compliance workload, particularly GST on commercial rentals and input tax credit reversal under Rules 42 and 43. We provide New GST Registration to businesses across Chetpet and the adjoining Kilpauk and Egmore localities, maintaining a compliance calendar for every client so due dates are met without last-minute panic, late fees or interest at 18 percent per annum.

GST jurisdiction for Chetpet (PIN 600031): businesses here generally fall under the CGST Chennai North Commissionerate. We regularly represent clients from Chetpet before this jurisdiction for registrations, clarifications and notice hearings, and can confirm your exact division and range from your GSTIN. State-jurisdiction cases are handled with the Tamil Nadu Commercial Taxes Department.
GST for Hospitals and Clinics in Chetpet
Healthcare services by clinical establishments and doctors are exempt, but a clinic in Chetpet rarely earns exempt income alone. Pharmacy sales to outpatients, implants billed separately, and cosmetic or aesthetic procedures undertaken for appearance rather than treatment are all taxable, and room charges above Rs.5,000 per day for non-ICU rooms attract 5 percent without credit. Exempt receipts still count towards aggregate turnover, so a hospital with a busy pharmacy can need registration despite mostly exempt revenue. A specialist separates the taxable streams, applies Rule 42 reversals on common expenses like housekeeping and equipment maintenance, and keeps the exemption for core treatment intact.
Yes, professional New GST Registration is available in Chetpet starting at Rs.1,499. The process is handled end to end — documents over WhatsApp, senior-reviewed preparation, portal filing and same-day acknowledgement sharing.
Why Us

Why Jagannathapuram, Chetpet Businesses Choose ChennaiGST

Not a bulk-filing portal. A senior consultant knows your file, your jurisdiction and your deadlines.

Strict Data Confidentiality

Your sales figures, supplier lists and login credentials are handled only by our engaged team, stored securely and never shared with any third party. Many of our clients in Chetpet compete with each other; complete confidentiality is a condition of our work.

Experience Across Trades and Sectors

Traders, manufacturers, contractors, e-commerce sellers, professionals and service exporters — we have handled GST for all of them. Whatever mix of goods and services your Chetpet business supplies, the rate, classification and place-of-supply questions have almost certainly crossed our desk before.

Free Health Check of Your Past Filings

Every new client receives a review of their recent returns before we file anything — unclaimed credit, GSTR-1 versus GSTR-3B drift, and exposures worth correcting quietly. Businesses in Chetpet often discover in this first review exactly why their previous arrangement was costing them money.

Familiar with Chennai Jurisdictions and Officers' Expectations

We work with Chennai GST ranges and circles every week, including the jurisdiction covering Chetpet. We know how local proper officers examine registrations, what supporting documents they routinely call for, and how to present a file so it moves without repeated queries.

Clean Exits When a Business Closes

Winding up attracts its own GST obligations — the cancellation application, reversal of credit on closing stock, and the final return in GSTR-10 within three months. We close registrations properly so a business you shut in Chetpet never writes back to you as a demand years later.

Correct HSN Codes and Rates, Verified

GSTR-1 requires four-digit HSN reporting for turnover up to Rs.5 crore and six digits above it, and a wrong code often means a wrong rate. We verify the classification of what you actually supply, so your invoices and returns rest on defensible codes.

How It Works

Our GST Registration Process

Document collection

You share PAN, Aadhaar, photographs, address proof and bank details over WhatsApp or email. We review each document against portal requirements and flag anything that could trigger an officer query.

Application preparation

We draft Form GST REG-01 with the correct business constitution, principal place of business, HSN or SAC codes and authorised signatory details, then share a summary for your confirmation.

Filing and Aadhaar authentication

The application is filed on the GST portal and we guide the authorised signatory through Aadhaar OTP authentication, which speeds up approval and usually avoids physical verification of premises.

Query handling

We track the ARN daily. If the officer issues a notice in Form REG-03 seeking clarification, we draft and file the reply in Form REG-04 within the permitted time.

GSTIN delivery and handover

Once approved, we download your registration certificate in Form REG-06, help set up portal login credentials, and brief you on invoice format, return due dates and e-way bill obligations.

Outcomes

What You Get

Practical outcomes our clients measure us by.

Notices Answered Within the Time Limit

Statutory windows such as thirty days for an ASMT-11 reply are tracked from the day a notice arrives, so responses go in on time, complete, and with your best case properly presented.

Credit Notes That Actually Reduce Your Tax

Sales returns, discounts and price revisions are adjusted through properly reported credit notes within the statutory window, so you never keep paying tax on turnover you have already reversed.

Due-Diligence Ready for Investors and Buyers

Funding rounds, partnerships and business sales all begin with a compliance check. A clean, documented GST history lets you clear that scrutiny quickly instead of watching a deal stall over old filing gaps.

A Written Trail for Every Decision

Tax positions, rate choices and credit calls are documented as they are made, so if a question arises years later, the reasoning and evidence are on file rather than in someone's fading memory.

Growth Without Compliance Anxiety

New branches, new product lines and interstate sales all carry GST consequences. With standing professional support, you expand knowing registrations, invoicing and returns will keep pace with the business.

Reduced Dependence on One Employee

When GST knowledge lives inside a single staff member, their resignation becomes a compliance crisis. With our firm as the standing process, your filings continue uninterrupted regardless of internal staff changes.

Why a Specialist Matters

With ChennaiGST vs Doing It Yourself

AspectWith ChennaiGSTDIY / Unattended
Input tax creditPurchase register matched against GSTR-2B each period, with defaulting suppliers chased so eligible credit is actually captured.Credit claimed from books alone; mismatches with GSTR-2B mean lost credit or excess claims that invite departmental queries.
Annual return preparationMonthly reconciliations roll naturally into GSTR-9, filed comfortably before 31 December with figures already agreed through the year.Twelve months of unmatched data reconstructed in December, with differences discovered too late to be corrected cleanly.
Registration and amendmentsQuery-resistant applications prepared correctly the first time, with supporting documents matched to what proper officers actually verify.Repeated clarification memos and resubmissions, with weeks lost because a rent agreement or premises photograph did not meet expectations.
Refund claimsRFD-01 filed with complete statements and annexures, tracked from ARN to bank credit, with any deficiency memo answered promptly.Incomplete claims bounce back as deficiency memos while the refund sits unclaimed for months and working capital stays blocked.
Time costRoughly an hour a month to send data and approve drafts; the portal work, reconciliation and follow-up are ours.Hours every month lost to portal errors, JSON files, OTP failures and reworking figures — usually on the due date itself.
Due-date trackingA maintained compliance calendar with internal cut-offs days before the 11th and the 20th; we chase you for data, not the other way around.Deadlines remembered from memory or phone alarms; one busy week and the return slips past the due date.
Case Law & Notifications

What the Department and the Courts Have Said — relevant to Chetpet businesses

We track every notification, circular and judgment that changes a filing position, so your returns and replies reflect the current law.

AAR Ruling

Money received by a liaison office from its head office is not a supply

Takko Holding GmbH, India liaison office - AAR Tamil Nadu, Order No. TN/14/AAR/2018, dated 27 September 2018 · 2018-09-27

A German company's liaison office in Tamil Nadu carried on only the representational and coordination activities permitted by the Reserve Bank of India and received funds from its head office to meet office expenses. The Authority held that liaison activities carried on strictly within the RBI permission do not amount to a supply under the CGST and TNGST Acts, the remittances from the head office are not consideration, and the liaison office is neither liable to pay GST nor required to register.

Why this matters: A genuine liaison office in Chennai doing only representational work stays outside GST, but any commercial activity changes that position.

GST Council

GST on fertilisers cut to five per cent on the eve of rollout

18th GST Council Meeting, New Delhi — 30 June 2017 (Signed Minutes, Agenda Item 3) · 2017-06-30

Meeting on the day GST was launched, the Council revisited the rate on fertilisers. Officers calculated the pre-GST incidence at about 9.75 per cent, placing fertilisers between the five and twelve per cent slabs. After almost every State supported relief for farmers, the Chairperson recorded a consensus and the Council agreed to tax fertilisers at five per cent instead of twelve, notwithstanding the inverted duty refund burden this would create for manufacturers whose inputs were taxed at eighteen per cent.

Why this matters: The Council reopened a rate it had already fixed only weeks earlier, and the cut created the inverted duty structure that fertiliser dealers still claim refunds under.

Circular

Legal heir can take over the credit balance when a sole proprietor dies

Circular No. 96/15/2019-GST dated 28 March 2019 · 2019-03-28

CBIC confirmed that the death of a sole proprietor, where the business is continued by the successor, is a transfer of business for the purposes of section 18(3), so the unutilised input tax credit can be transferred to the transferee through FORM GST ITC-02. The successor must first obtain a new registration, the cancellation application for the deceased's registration is filed selecting death of proprietor as the reason, and the transferee accepts the credit on the portal.

What it means for you: A family taking over a proprietorship after a bereavement need not lose the credit balance, provided the ITC-02 is filed before the old registration is cancelled.

FAQs

Frequently Asked Questions

Straight answers from practising GST consultants — based on the CGST Act, current CBIC notifications and day-to-day portal experience.

Do you provide new GST registration for businesses on Jagannathapuram?
Yes. We serve businesses on and around Jagannathapuram in Chetpet — shops, offices, godowns and home-run businesses alike. Document pickup can be arranged at your premises, or you can send everything on WhatsApp and complete GST registration without leaving your counter. Call +91 - 9600 606 444 and mention your location; a consultant will confirm the fee and timeline immediately.
Do you provide new gst registration for small businesses and proprietorships in Chetpet?
Yes. A large share of our clients in Chetpet are proprietors, small traders, shop owners, freelancers and family businesses rather than large companies. The fee of Rs.1,499 and the process are the same regardless of size, and we explain the compliance position in plain language — in Tamil or English — so you understand what is being filed on your behalf and why.
I billed customers while my GST registration was being processed. What is a revised invoice?
Registration takes effect from the date you became liable, but your GSTIN arrives only when the certificate is issued. For supplies made between the effective date of registration and the date the certificate was granted, Rule 53 allows you to issue revised invoices against the original bills, within one month from the date of issuance of the certificate. The revised invoice carries your GSTIN, is marked as a revised invoice, and references the original invoice number and date. This lets your registered buyers in Chetpet claim input credit for that interim period. A consolidated revised invoice is permitted for unregistered buyers within a state.
I sell only loose, unbranded grains and fresh vegetables. Do I need GST registration at all?
No. Under Section 23 of the CGST Act, a person engaged exclusively in supplying goods that are wholly exempt from tax is not liable to register, regardless of turnover. A trader in Chetpet dealing only in loose cereals, pulses sold unpackaged, fresh fruits and vegetables therefore stays outside GST entirely. The position changes the day you add even one taxable line, such as pre-packaged branded packs, edible oil or packaged snacks; from then on the normal threshold rules apply to your aggregate turnover, which counts the exempt sales too. Review your product mix once a year, or call +91 - 9600 606 444 for a quick applicability check.
I just received my GSTIN. What returns do I need to start filing?
From your first tax period, a regular taxpayer files GSTR-1, the outward supplies statement, by the 11th of the following month, and GSTR-3B, the summary return with tax payment, by the 20th. If your expected turnover is up to Rs.5 crore, you can opt for the QRMP scheme: returns become quarterly, GSTR-3B is due by the 22nd of the month after the quarter for Tamil Nadu, monthly tax is paid by challan, and the optional IFF by the 13th lets you pass credit to buyers monthly. Returns are mandatory even for nil turnover; the nil late fee is Rs.20 per day. Call +91 - 9600 606 444 and we will set up your filing calendar.
What proof do I give if I own the property where my business runs?
For owned premises, any one ownership document is sufficient: the latest property tax receipt, a municipal khata copy, or a copy of the electricity bill in the owner's name. If the property is in the name of a family member, treat it like consented premises and attach a consent letter or NOC from that relative along with their ownership proof. The GST portal accepts PDF or JPEG uploads within the prescribed size limits. Many home-based businesses in Chetpet register at their residential address this way, since GST law does not require a commercial property for registration.
Do partnership firms and private limited companies need different documents for GST?
Yes, the constitution documents differ. A partnership firm submits the partnership deed, the firm's PAN, and PAN, Aadhaar and photographs of all partners, with one partner named as authorised signatory through an authorisation letter. A private limited company submits its Certificate of Incorporation, company PAN, board resolution appointing the authorised signatory, and PAN, Aadhaar and photographs of directors; the company must sign the application with a DSC. Premises proof and bank details requirements are the same for all constitutions. An LLP follows the company pattern using its incorporation certificate and designated partner details.
My turnover just crossed the GST limit. How much time do I have to register?
You must apply for registration within thirty days of becoming liable, that is, within thirty days of the date your aggregate turnover crossed Rs.40 lakh for goods or Rs.20 lakh for services in Tamil Nadu. Registering late has consequences: tax becomes payable from the date liability arose, you cannot recover that GST from past customers, input credit for the unregistered gap is largely lost, and a penalty of Rs.10,000 or the tax evaded, whichever is higher, can apply. If your books show you crossed the limit recently, act now; our Chetpet office can file within a day. Call +91 - 9600 606 444.
We hire security guards from an agency. Should they charge GST or should we pay it ourselves?
Check the agency's constitution. Since 1 January 2019, security services by way of supply of security personnel provided by any person other than a body corporate to a registered person fall under reverse charge, so your business pays the 18 percent directly and claims credit. If the agency is a body corporate, such as a private limited company, it charges GST under forward charge on its invoice. Recipients registered under the composition scheme are excluded from this reverse charge entry. Businesses in Chetpet commonly pay agencies' forward-charge invoices while also missing their own RCM cases, so an annual review of security and manpower bills is worthwhile.
My landlord in Chetpet has no GSTIN but my business is registered. Who pays GST on the shop rent?
You do. With effect from 10 October 2024, renting of immovable property other than a residential dwelling by an unregistered person to a registered person was brought under reverse charge through Notification 09/2024-Central Tax (Rate). So a registered trader renting a shop from an unregistered landlord must pay 18 percent under RCM through GSTR-3B and can claim it back as input tax credit if eligible. Composition taxpayers have since been kept outside this entry, given they cannot claim credit. Many small businesses in Chetpet are still unaware of this 2024 change, and scrutiny notices on rent entries have already begun appearing. Call +91 - 9600 606 444 to regularise past months.
What information should I share with my consultant for handling a GST notice?
Share the complete notice with all annexures, your GST portal login for extracting filed returns, and books of account for the periods in question: sales and purchase registers, ITC ledger, bank statements and relevant invoices. Also disclose the full history, including earlier notices, replies already filed, DRC-03 payments made and any personal hearing attended, because a consultant defending you with partial facts can be blindsided at the hearing. If the matter involves specific transactions, keep agreements, transport documents and e-way bills ready. ChennaiGST provides Chetpet clients a simple checklist on engagement so nothing is missed; call +91 - 9600 606 444 to get it.
I returned an advance because the deal was cancelled. What document do I issue?
It depends on how far the paperwork went. If you had issued only a receipt voucher and no tax invoice, you issue a refund voucher under Rule 51 when returning the advance, and the tax paid on that advance can be adjusted. If a tax invoice had already been issued, the cancellation is handled through a credit note under Section 34 instead. The refund voucher records the original receipt voucher reference, the amount refunded and the tax involved. Event managers and contractors see cancellations regularly, and using the wrong document between these two is a common reconciliation error.
How does GST work on lorry freight paid to a goods transport agency?
A goods transport agency, identified by its issue of a consignment note, is taxed in one of two ways. By default, specified recipients such as companies and registered persons pay 5 percent under reverse charge on the freight and can claim it as ITC. Alternatively, the GTA may opt to pay tax itself under forward charge, at 5 percent without ITC or 18 percent with ITC after the September 2025 rate rationalisation replaced the earlier 12 percent option, by filing the prescribed declaration for the financial year; the invoice should state this option. Transport by an individual lorry owner without a consignment note is not a GTA service and is exempt. Check each transporter's invoice wording before deciding who pays the tax.
Are hospital and clinic charges exempt from GST?
Healthcare services provided by a clinical establishment, an authorised medical practitioner or paramedics are exempt from GST. This covers diagnosis, treatment and care for illness, injury, deformity or pregnancy in any recognised system of medicine in India, and includes transportation of patients by ambulance, which is separately exempt for any provider. Consultation fees, surgery charges, nursing and diagnostic services within this definition carry no GST, which is why hospitals do not charge tax on treatment bills. The exemption attaches to the nature of the service, not the size of the hospital, so both a large corporate hospital and a single-doctor clinic are covered.
Our security agency does not charge GST on its bills. Is that correct?
Quite possibly, yes. Since 1 January 2019, security services meaning supply of security personnel, when provided by any person other than a body corporate to a registered person, fall under reverse charge, so the agency correctly bills without tax and you pay 18 percent through GSTR-3B in cash, claiming ITC. If your security agency is a private limited company, however, RCM does not apply and it must charge GST on its invoice under forward charge. Composition taxpayers as recipients are excluded from this entry. Confirm the agency's constitution from its PAN, because paying under the wrong mechanism creates trouble for both sides.
By when must I issue a tax invoice when I sell goods?
For goods, Section 31 requires the tax invoice to be issued before or at the time of removal of the goods, where the supply involves movement, or before or at the time of delivery or making the goods available in other cases. In simple terms, the invoice must travel with the goods; a lorry leaving your Chetpet godown without an invoice is exposed to detention even if the e-way bill exists. For continuous supplies of goods with successive statements or payments, the invoice must be issued when each statement is issued or each payment is received.
Our company paid fees to a lawyer. Who pays the GST on this?
You do, as the recipient. Legal services supplied by an individual advocate, a firm of advocates or a senior advocate to a business entity are notified under Section 9(3), so the advocate does not charge GST and your business pays 18 percent under reverse charge in cash through GSTR-3B, claiming it back as ITC if otherwise eligible. Relief exists for small recipients: legal services to a business entity whose turnover is within the registration threshold are exempt. Since the advocate is usually unregistered, remember to raise a self-invoice and payment voucher for the transaction. Litigation-heavy businesses in Chetpet should reconcile their legal expense ledger against RCM paid every quarter.
Our small lodge in Chetpet gets bookings through online travel apps. Who pays the GST?
It depends on your registration status. If the lodge is registered, you charge GST on the accommodation and the platform collects TCS on payments routed through it, which you claim back on the portal. If the lodge is not liable to be registered, the law shifts the liability to the e-commerce operator itself under Section 9(5), so the app pays the tax on accommodation booked through it and the small lodge need not register merely because it lists online. Direct walk-in business remains within your threshold computation. Keep the platform agreements and statements, since they determine who reported the tax.
What documents are required for new GST registration in Chetpet?
For new GST registration you will generally need: PAN card of the proprietor, firm or company, Aadhaar card of proprietor, partners or directors, Passport-size photograph of proprietor, partners or directors, Business address proof such as electricity bill or property tax receipt, Rent agreement and owner NOC if premises are rented. The exact list depends on your constitution — proprietorship, partnership, LLP or company — and on the specifics of your case. Send what you have on WhatsApp to +91 - 9600 606 444 and we will confirm within the same working day exactly what else is needed, so nothing is rejected later for a missing paper.
Is there a GST consultant near Chetpet for new gst registration?
Yes. We serve Chetpet and the surrounding areas from our office at Porur, Chennai - 600 116, Tamil Nadu, and most GST registration work is completed online — you send documents on WhatsApp and we handle the portal work. If you prefer in-person help, we offer doorstep document pickup across Chetpet and you are welcome to visit our office. Reach us on +91 - 9600 606 444 between 9 AM and 8 PM, Monday to Saturday.
Which GST office handles Chetpet businesses?
Businesses in Chetpet (PIN 600031) generally fall under the CGST Chennai North Commissionerate, with state-jurisdiction cases handled by the Tamil Nadu Commercial Taxes Department. Your exact division and range can be confirmed from your GSTIN on the GST portal. We regularly appear before this jurisdiction for registrations, clarifications and hearings, so we know the local practice and documentation preferences.
