Trade Profile and GST Jurisdiction for Mettukuppam Main Road, Maduravoyal

Every locality in Chennai has its own commercial rhythm, and Maduravoyal is no exception. Maduravoyal is Chennai's western freight gateway where the Chennai Bypass meets Poonamallee High Road, filled with transporters, godowns, wholesale distributors and automobile service centres along the Vanagaram-Ambattur stretch. Goods transport agencies and their clients here regularly need reverse charge advice, e-way bill compliance for interstate loads and registration of rented warehouses as additional places of business. Our practice has shaped its New GST Registration work around exactly these realities, serving clients in Maduravoyal as well as Koyambedu and Vanagaram. Registrations, returns, refunds and notice replies are handled by one accountable team, with fees fixed in writing before work begins and every filing reconciled against portal data before it is submitted.

GST jurisdiction for Maduravoyal (PIN 600095): businesses here generally fall under the CGST Chennai South Commissionerate. We regularly represent clients from Maduravoyal before this jurisdiction for registrations, clarifications and notice hearings, and can confirm your exact division and range from your GSTIN. State-jurisdiction cases are handled with the Tamil Nadu Commercial Taxes Department.
GST for IT and SaaS Companies in Maduravoyal
IT and SaaS services are taxed at 18 percent domestically, but the real complexity is qualifying overseas billing as export under Section 2(6) of the IGST Act: the recipient must be outside India, consideration must arrive in convertible foreign exchange or INR where RBI permits, and the Indian entity and foreign recipient must not be mere establishments of the same person. Marketing or support arms serving a foreign parent risk classification as intermediaries under Section 13(8), making the place of supply India and the income taxable. Supplies to SEZ units are zero-rated with proper endorsements. A specialist structures contracts and invoicing so export status survives departmental scrutiny.
To get New GST Registration in Maduravoyal, share your documents by WhatsApp or visit the office, approve the prepared draft, and the filing is completed on the GST portal from Rs.1,499.
Why Us

Why Mettukuppam Main Road, Maduravoyal Businesses Choose ChennaiGST

Not a bulk-filing portal. A senior consultant knows your file, your jurisdiction and your deadlines.

A Real Local Office You Can Walk Into

We are a Chennai firm with a physical office, not a faceless portal. If you prefer to sit across a table with your papers, you are welcome. Clients from Maduravoyal regularly visit us for registrations, notice discussions and annual return reviews.

Free Health Check of Your Past Filings

Every new client receives a review of their recent returns before we file anything — unclaimed credit, GSTR-1 versus GSTR-3B drift, and exposures worth correcting quietly. Businesses in Maduravoyal often discover in this first review exactly why their previous arrangement was costing them money.

WhatsApp Updates at Every Stage

You receive a WhatsApp message when documents are received, when the draft is ready for your approval, and when the return or application is filed, along with the acknowledgement. You never have to call and ask what is happening with your file.

Reverse Charge Tracked, Not Forgotten

Freight paid to transporters, advocate fees, imported services and other notified supplies attract GST under reverse charge, with self-invoicing where the supplier is unregistered. We maintain a running RCM check every period, because this is the liability self-filers most consistently miss.

Notice-Proof Filing Discipline

Most GST notices trace back to mismatches between GSTR-1, GSTR-3B and GSTR-2B. We reconcile these before filing, not after a notice arrives, so your returns are internally consistent and the most common triggers for ASMT-10 scrutiny simply never appear.

Cancelled GSTIN? We Handle Revocation Too

A registration cancelled for non-filing is not the end of the road. We bring the pending returns up to date, clear the dues and file the revocation application in REG-21 within the permitted window, restoring suspended and cancelled GSTINs to active status.

How It Works

Our GST Registration Process

Document collection

You share PAN, Aadhaar, photographs, address proof and bank details over WhatsApp or email. We review each document against portal requirements and flag anything that could trigger an officer query.

Application preparation

We draft Form GST REG-01 with the correct business constitution, principal place of business, HSN or SAC codes and authorised signatory details, then share a summary for your confirmation.

Filing and Aadhaar authentication

The application is filed on the GST portal and we guide the authorised signatory through Aadhaar OTP authentication, which speeds up approval and usually avoids physical verification of premises.

Query handling

We track the ARN daily. If the officer issues a notice in Form REG-03 seeking clarification, we draft and file the reply in Form REG-04 within the permitted time.

GSTIN delivery and handover

Once approved, we download your registration certificate in Form REG-06, help set up portal login credentials, and brief you on invoice format, return due dates and e-way bill obligations.

Outcomes

What You Get

Practical outcomes our clients measure us by.

Export Benefits Fully Utilised

With the LUT filed at the start of each financial year and refund claims tracked to credit, exporters supply without blocking funds in IGST and recover accumulated credit on schedule.

A Professional Face on Every Invoice

Correct, complete tax invoices signal a well-run business to customers, vendors and banks alike, quietly strengthening your credibility in every transaction where your paperwork is seen.

Reduced Dependence on One Employee

When GST knowledge lives inside a single staff member, their resignation becomes a compliance crisis. With our firm as the standing process, your filings continue uninterrupted regardless of internal staff changes.

Supplier Risk Caught Early

We spot suppliers who stop uploading invoices or filing returns and alert you before their default becomes your blocked credit, letting you recover amounts or switch vendors while the exposure is still small.

Stronger Standing with Corporate Buyers

Large buyers check vendor GST compliance before releasing payments and renewing contracts. A clean filing record with timely GSTR-1 uploads keeps your invoices reflecting in their GSTR-2B and your payments unblocked.

Fewer Departmental Notices

Consistent, reconciled returns give the department's matching systems nothing to flag. Clients who move to us after years of self-filing typically see scrutiny queries and mismatch notices fall away within a few filing cycles.

Why a Specialist Matters

With ChennaiGST vs Doing It Yourself

AspectWith ChennaiGSTDIY / Unattended
Keeping up with changesRate changes, portal updates and new thresholds such as the Rs.5 crore e-invoice limit are tracked by us and applied to your case proactively.Changes are discovered after the fact — often through a rejected filing, a blocked e-way bill or a departmental letter.
Goods in transitE-way bills generated correctly and matched to invoices, so consignments pass roadside inspections without detention or penalty.A defective or missing e-way bill can mean detention at a checkpoint, with penalties that dwarf the tax on the consignment.
Due-date trackingA maintained compliance calendar with internal cut-offs days before the 11th and the 20th; we chase you for data, not the other way around.Deadlines remembered from memory or phone alarms; one busy week and the return slips past the due date.
Supplier defaultsSuppliers who stop uploading invoices are identified within the period and pursued before their default becomes your blocked credit.Missing supplier invoices surface only when credit is denied, by which time recovering the amount from the vendor is difficult.
Portal credentials and dataLogins handled by a small engaged team under strict confidentiality, with credentials stored securely and never passed onward.Passwords circulating on chats with freelancers and part-timers, and no accountability for who has accessed your business data.
Record keepingEvery return, challan, acknowledgement and working paper archived in an organised folder, retrievable in minutes years later.Documents scattered across email, downloads and old phones; assembling records for a bank or an audit takes days.

GST Council

Single-agenda meeting on GST compensation offers states two borrowing options

41st GST Council Meeting (video conferencing) — 27 August 2020 · 2020-08-27

The 41st meeting was convened with a single agenda item, GST compensation to states and union territories, after collections collapsed during the pandemic. The Centre placed before the Council two borrowing options for meeting the compensation shortfall for 2020-21: a special window facilitated by the Reserve Bank of India for the portion of the shortfall attributed to GST implementation itself, or market borrowing of the entire estimated shortfall by the states, in both cases serviced from future compensation cess collections. States were given a short period to convey their choice.

Why this matters: The borrowings arranged here are why compensation cess continued to be collected on cess goods long after the five-year compensation period ended in June 2022.

Notification

GSTR-3B due date fixed at the twentieth for October 2019 to March 2020

Notification No. 44/2019-Central Tax dated 09.10.2019 · 2019-10-09

This notification prescribed that the return in FORM GSTR-3B for each of the months from October 2019 to March 2020 was to be furnished electronically on or before the twentieth day of the month succeeding the month concerned, and that the tax due had to be discharged by debiting the electronic cash or credit ledger not later than the same date. It continued the practice of notifying GSTR-3B due dates in six month blocks.

Practical effect: The twentieth of the following month remains the familiar GSTR-3B deadline for larger Chennai taxpayers, and payment must accompany the return, not follow it.

AAR Ruling

Karnataka AAR: executive director salary outside GST turnover

Anil Kumar Agrawal — AAR Karnataka, Advance Ruling No. KAR ADRG 30/2020, dated 4 May 2020 · 2020-05-04

The Karnataka AAR examined which income streams of an individual count towards aggregate turnover for GST registration. It held that salary received as an executive, full-time director is outside the ambit of GST and not includable in aggregate turnover. In contrast, remuneration of a non-executive director is a taxable service, and such amounts, along with partner's salary from a firm, interest income and rental income — including residential rent that is itself exempt — must be counted when testing the registration threshold.

Practical effect: Individuals with mixed income should compute the GST registration threshold carefully, excluding employee salary but including non-executive director fees and rentals.

FAQs

Frequently Asked Questions

Straight answers from practising GST consultants — based on the CGST Act, current CBIC notifications and day-to-day portal experience.

Do you provide new GST registration for businesses on Mettukuppam Main Road?
Yes. We serve businesses on and around Mettukuppam Main Road in Maduravoyal — shops, offices, godowns and home-run businesses alike. Document pickup can be arranged at your premises, or you can send everything on WhatsApp and complete GST registration without leaving your counter. Call +91 - 9600 606 444 and mention your location; a consultant will confirm the fee and timeline immediately.
Are there any hidden charges for new GST registration?
No. The fee quoted before we start is the fee you pay. Government fees, portal charges or statutory late fees, where they apply, are separate and disclosed to you in advance with the exact amount. We issue a proper GST invoice for our professional fee. If the scope of work changes — for example, an unexpected notice or additional periods — we tell you the revised fee before doing anything further.
I run a cloud kitchen from Maduravoyal selling only through delivery apps. How is GST applied to me?
CBIC Circular 164/20/2021 clarified that food supplied by cloud kitchens and central kitchens is restaurant service, so the 5% rate without input tax credit applies just as it does to a dine-in restaurant. Because restaurant services supplied through platforms like Swiggy and Zomato are taxed in the hands of the e-commerce operator under Section 9(5), a small cloud kitchen below the Rs.20 lakh service threshold can even operate without registration. Once you cross the threshold or want your own billing, registration becomes necessary. Our Maduravoyal team sets up cloud kitchens end to end; call +91 - 9600 606 444.
My turnover just crossed the GST limit. How much time do I have to register?
You must apply for registration within thirty days of becoming liable, that is, within thirty days of the date your aggregate turnover crossed Rs.40 lakh for goods or Rs.20 lakh for services in Tamil Nadu. Registering late has consequences: tax becomes payable from the date liability arose, you cannot recover that GST from past customers, input credit for the unregistered gap is largely lost, and a penalty of Rs.10,000 or the tax evaded, whichever is higher, can apply. If your books show you crossed the limit recently, act now; our Maduravoyal office can file within a day. Call +91 - 9600 606 444.
What is the GST registration limit for a trader selling goods in Tamil Nadu?
In Tamil Nadu, a person engaged exclusively in the supply of goods must register for GST once aggregate turnover in a financial year crosses Rs.40 lakh. Aggregate turnover is computed PAN-wide across India and includes exempt supplies and exports, not just taxable sales. The Rs.40 lakh relaxation does not apply if you make inter-state taxable supplies of goods, sell through an e-commerce operator that collects TCS, or deal in certain notified items, in which case registration becomes mandatory earlier. If your Maduravoyal shop is approaching the limit, apply within thirty days of crossing it.
Is Aadhaar authentication compulsory for GST registration?
Aadhaar authentication is not compulsory, but it is strongly recommended. When the promoter and authorised signatory complete Aadhaar OTP authentication, the application is processed on the fast track and deemed approval applies if the officer does not act within seven working days. Without Aadhaar authentication, the department treats the application as higher risk, physical verification of the business premises is usually ordered, and approval can take up to thirty days. Most applicants in Maduravoyal finish the OTP step in minutes, so there is rarely a reason to skip it unless the Aadhaar-linked mobile number is inactive.
I just received my GSTIN. What returns do I need to start filing?
From your first tax period, a regular taxpayer files GSTR-1, the outward supplies statement, by the 11th of the following month, and GSTR-3B, the summary return with tax payment, by the 20th. If your expected turnover is up to Rs.5 crore, you can opt for the QRMP scheme: returns become quarterly, GSTR-3B is due by the 22nd of the month after the quarter for Tamil Nadu, monthly tax is paid by challan, and the optional IFF by the 13th lets you pass credit to buyers monthly. Returns are mandatory even for nil turnover; the nil late fee is Rs.20 per day. Call +91 - 9600 606 444 and we will set up your filing calendar.
Is PAN compulsory for GST? Do I need separate GSTINs for different states?
Yes, PAN is mandatory for normal GST registration; the GSTIN itself embeds your PAN in characters three to twelve, with the first two digits denoting the state, which is 33 for Tamil Nadu. Registration is state-wise, so if you have a fixed place of business in Tamil Nadu and another in Karnataka, you need a separate GSTIN in each state under the same PAN. Merely selling to customers in other states does not require registration there; it is having an establishment in that state that triggers it. Within Tamil Nadu, you may also take separate registrations for distinct places of business.
Our company changed its name. Do we need a new GST registration?
No, as long as your PAN remains the same. A change in the legal name of the business, for example after ROC approval of a company name change, is handled as a core field amendment in Form REG-14 within fifteen days of the change, with the fresh Certificate of Incorporation attached as proof. The officer approves the amendment, typically within about fifteen working days, and your existing GSTIN continues unchanged with the new name on the certificate. Fresh registration becomes necessary only when the PAN itself changes, such as conversion of a proprietorship into a partnership or company.
Why does the restaurant inside a hotel sometimes charge 18 percent while others charge 5 percent?
Restaurant service is generally taxed at 5 percent without input tax credit. The exception is a restaurant located in specified premises, broadly a hotel where the value of any unit of accommodation exceeded Rs.7,500 per day in the preceding financial year, or which has opted in through a declaration; there the rate is 18 percent with input tax credit. From 1 April 2025 the classification works on the previous year's actual accommodation value plus the opt-in mechanism, rather than the old declared tariff concept. Hotels around Maduravoyal should evaluate annually whether the 18 percent with credit position is commercially better; call +91 - 9600 606 444 for the comparison.
My SaaS startup in Maduravoyal bills both US and Indian customers. Is everything zero-rated?
No. Only the supplies satisfying the export conditions are zero-rated under your LUT. Subscriptions billed to customers located in India are ordinary taxable supplies at 18 percent, with the place of supply being the registered customer's location, or the address on record for unregistered users. Your GSTR-1 must therefore separate export invoices from domestic B2B and B2C supplies, and your accumulated ITC refund is computed only in proportion to export turnover. Many Maduravoyal SaaS founders wrongly treat all revenue as export because billing runs through one gateway; a revenue-wise mapping avoids demands later. Call +91 - 9600 606 444 for a review.
How is GST charged on clothes and footwear after the rate change?
The rate now turns on a per-piece price line of Rs.2,500. Apparel, made-up textile articles and footwear with a sale value up to Rs.2,500 per piece attract 5 percent GST, while pieces priced above Rs.2,500 attract 18 percent. The test applies item by item, so a single invoice from a garment shop in Maduravoyal can carry both rates: a Rs.1,800 shirt at 5 percent and a Rs.4,000 pair of shoes at 18 percent on the same bill. Configure the billing software to test the price of each line item automatically rather than applying one blanket rate.
How do I register my DSC on the GST portal, and why does the emSigner error keep appearing?
After logging in, open My Profile and select Register or Update DSC, choose the authorised signatory's PAN, and sign with the USB token; the certificate must be Class 3 and the PAN on it must match the signatory's PAN on the portal. Signing requires the emSigner utility running in the background, and the common failure to establish connection error means emSigner is not started, is blocked by the browser, or another application occupies its port. Run emSigner as administrator, keep the token connected, and use the trusted-site settings the portal recommends. We troubleshoot DSC issues for Maduravoyal companies routinely; call +91 - 9600 606 444.
Do I have to issue an invoice for every small cash sale in my shop?
Not necessarily. Where the value of a supply is less than Rs.200, the buyer is unregistered, and the buyer does not ask for an invoice, you may skip issuing an individual tax invoice. Instead, you must prepare one consolidated tax invoice at the close of each day covering all such small sales. The moment a customer demands an invoice, or the sale is Rs.200 or more, a proper invoice is required. Retail counters typically issue system receipts to every customer anyway, which is cleaner practice, but the daily consolidated invoice is the legal minimum for petty sales.
If I open a bulk bag and sell rice loose by weight, is that sale taxable?
No. The 5% levy on specified food items applies only when they are supplied in pre-packaged and labelled form in packs up to 25 kilograms. When a retailer opens bulk stock and weighs out loose quantities against each customer's order, the supply is not of a pre-packaged commodity, so it remains exempt. What you cannot do is sell an intact labelled retail pack and bill it as loose. Keep purchase records showing bulk procurement and maintain the loose counter separately from the packed shelf, because officers test this distinction during inspections of grocery businesses. When in doubt on a product, call +91 - 9600 606 444.
What is the GST rate for salons, gyms and yoga centres?
From 22 September 2025, beauty and physical well-being services, covering salons, barbers, beauty parlours, gyms, fitness centres and yoga institutes, attract 5 percent GST without input tax credit, reduced from the earlier 18 percent. The condition attached to the concessional rate is important: because credit is barred, the GST paid on your rent, equipment, cosmetics and consumables becomes part of your cost base. Service businesses in Maduravoyal moving to the 5 percent rate should reprice services keeping this embedded tax in mind, and must not continue charging 18 percent, since excess tax collected has to be deposited with the government.
What GST do hotels charge on room tariffs after the 2025 rate changes?
From 22 September 2025, hotel accommodation with a value of supply up to Rs.7,500 per unit per day attracts 5 percent GST without input tax credit, and accommodation above Rs.7,500 attracts 18 percent with input tax credit. The earlier 12 percent slab for mid-range rooms was abolished in the rate rationalisation. Tax applies on the actual transaction value charged, so a discounted rate below Rs.7,500 falls in the 5 percent bracket even if the printed tariff is higher. Hotels should reconfigure billing software slab-wise and watch the ITC restriction on the 5 percent category, which changes costing materially.
Our company paid fees to a lawyer. Who pays the GST on this?
You do, as the recipient. Legal services supplied by an individual advocate, a firm of advocates or a senior advocate to a business entity are notified under Section 9(3), so the advocate does not charge GST and your business pays 18 percent under reverse charge in cash through GSTR-3B, claiming it back as ITC if otherwise eligible. Relief exists for small recipients: legal services to a business entity whose turnover is within the registration threshold are exempt. Since the advocate is usually unregistered, remember to raise a self-invoice and payment voucher for the transaction. Litigation-heavy businesses in Maduravoyal should reconcile their legal expense ledger against RCM paid every quarter.
