Trade Profile and GST Jurisdiction for Kovur

If you operate in Kovur, GST deadlines arrive with the same force as anywhere in Chennai — GSTR-1 by the 11th, GSTR-3B by the 20th. Kovur lies south-west of Gerugambakkam where the Chennai Bypass meets Thandalam Road and the Irandamkattalai-Karaimanagar Road, still mixing the old village trade around S Mada Street, Nadu Street and Walaja Street with new gated projects toward Chinnapanicheri. Building material dealers, ready-mix units, poultry and provision traders, transport contractors and small fabrication workshops operate here. Unregistered purchases attracting reverse charge, e-way bill compliance on bypass movement and belated return filing dominate the case load. We provide QRMP Quarterly Filing to businesses across Kovur and the adjoining Gerugambakkam and Kundrathur localities, maintaining a compliance calendar for every client so due dates are met without last-minute panic, late fees or interest at 18 percent per annum.

GST jurisdiction for Kovur (PIN 600122): businesses here generally fall under the CGST Chennai Outer Commissionerate. We regularly represent clients from Kovur before this jurisdiction for registrations, clarifications and notice hearings, and can confirm your exact division and range from your GSTIN. State-jurisdiction cases are handled with the Tamil Nadu Commercial Taxes Department.
GST for Textile and Apparel Businesses in Kovur
Textile rates changed structurally from 22 September 2025: garments and made-ups priced up to Rs.2,500 per piece attract 5 percent, while pieces above that level attract 18 percent, so one saree rack in Kovur can legitimately carry two rates. Most fabrics remain at 5 percent, and job work processes such as dyeing, printing and embroidery for registered principals are taxed at 5 percent. A specialist builds price-point-based rate logic into your billing, tracks the credit accumulation that low-rate output still causes, and keeps Chapter 50 to 63 HSN reporting accurate so automated comparisons of your GSTR-1 and e-way bill data raise no flags.
After QRMP Quarterly Filing is filed, support continues — acknowledgements are archived, upcoming due dates are tracked, and any departmental query on the work is answered, all within fees starting at Rs.1,499 in Kovur.
Why Us

Why Kovur Businesses Choose ChennaiGST

Not a bulk-filing portal. A senior consultant knows your file, your jurisdiction and your deadlines.

✓

E-Commerce Seller Reconciliation, Including TCS

Sellers on Amazon, Flipkart and other marketplaces face a three-way match between marketplace reports, GSTR-1 and the TCS the operator deposits against your GSTIN. We reconcile all three every period and accept the TCS credit, so sellers in Kovur never leave marketplace deductions unclaimed.

✓

Strict Data Confidentiality

Your sales figures, supplier lists and login credentials are handled only by our engaged team, stored securely and never shared with any third party. Many of our clients in Kovur compete with each other; complete confidentiality is a condition of our work.

✓

Notice Support Does Not Stop at Filing

If a query, ASMT-10 scrutiny notice or DRC-01 arrives on a return we filed, we stand behind our work and help you draft the reply. You are not left alone with a departmental letter and a thirty-day clock ticking against you.

✓

Clean Exits When a Business Closes

Winding up attracts its own GST obligations — the cancellation application, reversal of credit on closing stock, and the final return in GSTR-10 within three months. We close registrations properly so a business you shut in Kovur never writes back to you as a demand years later.

✓

QRMP Managed Properly, Not Just Opted Into

Quarterly filing still demands monthly attention — IFF uploads so your buyers see their credit on time, and tax payment through PMT-06 by the 25th for the first two months of each quarter. We run that monthly rhythm so QRMP saves you effort without creating gaps.

✓

Familiar with Chennai Jurisdictions and Officers' Expectations

We work with Chennai GST ranges and circles every week, including the jurisdiction covering Kovur. We know how local proper officers examine registrations, what supporting documents they routinely call for, and how to present a file so it moves without repeated queries.

How It Works

Our QRMP Filing Process

Scheme setup and assessment

We confirm your eligibility under the Rs.5 crore limit, compare QRMP against monthly filing for your business, and select or continue the scheme on the portal.

Monthly IFF uploads

In the first two months of the quarter we upload your B2B invoices through the Invoice Furnishing Facility by the 13th, so customers see credit in their GSTR-2B promptly.

Monthly tax payment

We compute tax for each of the first two months under the fixed sum or self-assessment method and generate the PMT-06 challan for payment by the 25th.

Quarterly return preparation

After the quarter ends we consolidate all three months of sales and purchases, reconcile input tax credit with GSTR-2B, and prepare GSTR-1 and GSTR-3B.

Filing and reporting

With your confirmation we file quarterly GSTR-1 by the 13th and GSTR-3B by the 22nd, then share acknowledgements and a quarterly tax summary for your records.

Outcomes

What You Get

Practical outcomes our clients measure us by.

★

Marketplace Accounts That Stay Live

E-commerce platforms continuously validate seller GSTINs and filing status. A consistently compliant registration keeps your listings active and settlements flowing, with no sudden suspension of your online sales channel.

★

Every Eligible Rupee of ITC Claimed

Systematic GSTR-2B matching and supplier follow-up mean input tax credit that was leaking away under self-filing is captured each month, directly reducing the cash you pay out with every GSTR-3B.

★

Due-Diligence Ready for Investors and Buyers

Funding rounds, partnerships and business sales all begin with a compliance check. A clean, documented GST history lets you clear that scrutiny quickly instead of watching a deal stall over old filing gaps.

★

Confidence During Officer Interactions

When a query or verification comes, you respond through a professional who deals with the department regularly, in the department's own language and format, instead of facing an officer's letter alone.

★

Reduced Dependence on One Employee

When GST knowledge lives inside a single staff member, their resignation becomes a compliance crisis. With our firm as the standing process, your filings continue uninterrupted regardless of internal staff changes.

★

Tax Paid Under the Right Head

Getting IGST versus CGST and SGST right at the invoice stage spares you the painful cycle of paying the correct head again and pursuing a refund of the amount paid under the wrong one.

Why a Specialist Matters

With ChennaiGST vs Doing It Yourself

AspectWith ChennaiGSTDIY / Unattended
Due-date trackingA maintained compliance calendar with internal cut-offs days before the 11th and the 20th; we chase you for data, not the other way around.Deadlines remembered from memory or phone alarms; one busy week and the return slips past the due date.
Registration and amendmentsQuery-resistant applications prepared correctly the first time, with supporting documents matched to what proper officers actually verify.Repeated clarification memos and resubmissions, with weeks lost because a rent agreement or premises photograph did not meet expectations.
Input tax creditPurchase register matched against GSTR-2B each period, with defaulting suppliers chased so eligible credit is actually captured.Credit claimed from books alone; mismatches with GSTR-2B mean lost credit or excess claims that invite departmental queries.
Portal credentials and dataLogins handled by a small engaged team under strict confidentiality, with credentials stored securely and never passed onward.Passwords circulating on chats with freelancers and part-timers, and no accountability for who has accessed your business data.
Supplier defaultsSuppliers who stop uploading invoices are identified within the period and pursued before their default becomes your blocked credit.Missing supplier invoices surface only when credit is denied, by which time recovering the amount from the vendor is difficult.
Time costRoughly an hour a month to send data and approve drafts; the portal work, reconciliation and follow-up are ours.Hours every month lost to portal errors, JSON files, OTP failures and reworking figures — usually on the due date itself.

Gujarat High Court reads down mandatory one-third land deduction for GST on construction

Munjaal Manishbhai Bhatt v. Union of India — Gujarat High Court, 2022 · 2022-05-06

In a bungalow purchase where land constituted the dominant value, the Gujarat High Court held that the deeming fiction treating land value as one-third of the total consideration for GST on construction is arbitrary if applied mandatorily. Where the actual value of land is ascertainable from the agreement, tax must be computed after deducting the real land value; the one-third deduction in the rate notification was read down as optional, available at the taxpayer's choice.

What it means for you: Builders and buyers with separately valued land agreements can compute GST on actual construction value — worth revisiting for plotted developments and villa projects around Chennai.

AAR Ruling

Club membership and admission fees held not to be consideration for any supply

Rotary Club of Mumbai Queens Necklace — AAAR Maharashtra (2019), on appeal from AAR Maharashtra, Advance Ruling No. GST-ARA-118/2018-19 · 2019

The club collected membership subscriptions and admission fees which were spent on meetings, administration and communication, with no facility or benefit supplied to members in return. The Maharashtra Appellate Authority for Advance Ruling held that the collections merely defray shared expenses, that there is no supply of goods or services to members, and that the amounts are therefore not consideration liable to tax.

Practical effect: Chennai associations should note that Section 7(1)(aa), inserted with retrospective effect from 1 July 2017, now treats club to member supplies as taxable, so this reasoning no longer holds.

Portal Advisory

CBIC answers on what counts as pre-packaged and labelled

CBIC Frequently Asked Questions on GST on pre-packaged and labelled goods, dated 17 July 2022 · 2022-07-17

A day before the change took effect, the Tax Research Unit issued FAQs explaining that the expression takes its meaning from the Legal Metrology Act, 2009 and covers commodities intended for retail sale in packs of up to twenty-five kilograms or twenty-five litres that must bear statutory declarations. A single package above that limit is not covered, nor are packs supplied to an industrial or institutional consumer. Loose sale from a large pack by a retailer does not attract the levy.

What to do about it: A fifty-kilogram rice bag sold as one package stays outside the levy, but the moment it is repacked into labelled retail bags of twenty-five kilograms or less, five per cent applies.

FAQs

Frequently Asked Questions

Straight answers from practising GST consultants — based on the CGST Act, current CBIC notifications and day-to-day portal experience.

Are there any hidden charges for QRMP quarterly filing?
No. The fee quoted before we start is the fee you pay. Government fees, portal charges or statutory late fees, where they apply, are separate and disclosed to you in advance with the exact amount. We issue a proper GST invoice for our professional fee. If the scope of work changes — for example, an unexpected notice or additional periods — we tell you the revised fee before doing anything further.
Do you provide qrmp scheme filing for small businesses and proprietorships in Kovur?
Yes. A large share of our clients in Kovur are proprietors, small traders, shop owners, freelancers and family businesses rather than large companies. The fee of Rs.1,499/quarter and the process are the same regardless of size, and we explain the compliance position in plain language — in Tamil or English — so you understand what is being filed on your behalf and why.
I am under QRMP in Chennai. When is my quarterly GSTR-3B due?
For taxpayers registered in Tamil Nadu, which falls in the category of states with the earlier date, the quarterly GSTR-3B under QRMP is due on the 22nd of the month following the quarter. So the return for April to June is due by 22 July, and so on for each quarter. The quarterly GSTR-1 is due by the 13th of the same month. Mark both dates, because late fee and 18 percent interest apply on delays just as they do for monthly filers. Call +91 - 9600 606 444 if you want us to manage the calendar.
How and when can I opt in or out of the QRMP scheme?
The option is exercised on the GST portal under Services, Returns, Opt-in for Quarterly Return. The window for any quarter runs from the first day of the second month of the preceding quarter to the last day of the first month of the quarter you are opting for. For example, to be under QRMP for July to September, opt in between 1 May and 31 July. Once chosen, the option continues for future quarters until you change it or your turnover crosses Rs.5 crore. We handle the opt-in for clients at no extra charge.
How do I pay tax monthly under QRMP if the return is only quarterly?
For the first two months of each quarter, tax is deposited through challan PMT-06 by the 25th of the following month. You can use the fixed sum method, paying 35 percent of the tax paid in cash in the previous quarter (or 100 percent of the tax paid in cash in the last month of the previous quarter if you were a monthly filer), or the self-assessment method, paying actual liability after adjusting input tax credit. The third month's tax is settled in the quarterly GSTR-3B itself. We compute the safer option for each client in Kovur every month.
Is there a late fee if I delay the monthly PMT-06 payment under QRMP?
No late fee applies to a delayed PMT-06 deposit, because late fee is linked only to returns. However, interest at 18 percent per annum is payable on the shortfall for the delay period. Note that if you used the fixed sum method and paid the pre-filled 35 percent amount on time, no interest applies for the first two months even if actual liability was higher, provided the balance is paid in the quarterly GSTR-3B by its due date. Late fee does apply if the quarterly GSTR-1 or GSTR-3B itself is filed late.
Should I choose QRMP or continue monthly filing?
It depends on your customer profile. QRMP means fewer returns and suits businesses selling mainly to consumers or unregistered buyers. However, if most customers are registered businesses, monthly GSTR-1 (or disciplined use of IFF) gets them input tax credit faster, which many corporate buyers insist on. Cash flow also matters: under QRMP you still pay monthly via PMT-06, so there is no tax deferral, only compliance simplification. We review turnover, buyer mix and working capital before recommending either route to businesses in Kovur. A short call on +91 - 9600 606 444 is enough to decide.
What is IFF in the QRMP scheme?
The Invoice Furnishing Facility (IFF) is an optional facility for QRMP taxpayers to upload B2B invoices for the first two months of a quarter, by the 13th of the following month, up to Rs.50 lakh of invoice value per month. Invoices uploaded through IFF appear in your buyers' GSTR-2B immediately, so they can claim input tax credit without waiting for your quarterly GSTR-1. If your customers are registered businesses that press for timely credit, using IFF keeps them happy. We file IFF for QRMP clients in Kovur as part of the standard package.
What is the due date for GSTR-3B in Tamil Nadu?
For monthly filers, GSTR-3B is due on the 20th of the following month. If you are registered in Tamil Nadu and have opted for the QRMP scheme, your quarterly GSTR-3B is due on the 22nd of the month following the quarter. GSTR-3B is the summary return through which you actually pay tax, so missing it attracts a late fee of Rs.50 per day (Rs.20 for nil returns) plus interest at 18 percent per annum on tax paid late.
How does ITC reversal work for capital goods used for both taxable and exempt supplies?
Rule 43 treats every commonly used capital good as having a useful life of five years, so its total credit is spread over sixty months for reversal purposes. Each month, one-sixtieth of the credit on all common capital goods is attributed to the period, and the exempt proportion, computed on the exempt-to-total turnover ratio, is reversed in GSTR-3B with applicable interest treatment. Capital goods used exclusively for taxable supplies need no reversal, while those used exclusively for exempt supplies get no credit at all. Keep a capital goods register with commissioning dates, because the sixty-month clock and any change in use must be tracked asset-wise.
Do I have to report HSN codes in my GSTR-1?
Yes. Taxpayers with aggregate turnover up to Rs.5 crore must report a 4-digit HSN summary for B2B supplies in Table 12 of GSTR-1, while those above Rs.5 crore must report 6-digit HSN codes for all supplies. The portal now validates HSN entries against its master list, so wrong or truncated codes can block filing. Getting HSN classification right also determines your tax rate, so it is worth a one-time review of your product list. Our team in Kovur maintains a verified HSN master for every client.
What is the difference between the electronic cash ledger and the electronic credit ledger?
The electronic cash ledger reflects actual money you have deposited through challans, plus TDS and TCS credits you have accepted; it can pay tax, interest, penalty, late fee and any other amount. The electronic credit ledger reflects input tax credit claimed through your returns, and it can be used only for paying output tax, never for interest, penalty or late fee. Both are visible under Services, then Ledgers, after login. Refund of an excess cash balance is possible, while credit is refundable only in specified cases such as exports and inverted duty structure.
Can my GST registration be cancelled for not filing returns?
Yes. Under Rule 21A, the department can suspend a GSTIN where returns are not filed for a continuous period, and Section 29 permits cancellation where a regular taxpayer has not filed returns for six months (two quarters for QRMP, and a composition taxpayer defaulting on the annual return beyond three months). During suspension you cannot issue tax invoices or file returns, which freezes the business. If cancellation happens, revocation must be sought through REG-21 within 90 days after clearing all dues. If you have received a suspension notice in Kovur, call +91 - 9600 606 444 immediately.
Is GST payable under reverse charge on payments made to our company directors?
It depends on the capacity in which the director is paid. CBIC Circular 140/10/2020 settles the position: remuneration to a whole-time or executive director who is an employee, paid as salary with TDS under Section 192, is outside GST entirely as an employer-employee transaction. In contrast, sitting fees, commission and professional charges paid to independent or non-executive directors, typically suffering TDS under Section 194J, are taxable and the company pays 18 percent under reverse charge, claiming ITC. Companies in Kovur should split their director payments ledger accordingly, issue self-invoices for the RCM portion, and keep board resolutions and TDS treatment consistent as supporting evidence.
What details must a GST tax invoice compulsorily contain?
Rule 46 of the CGST Rules prescribes the mandatory contents: your name, address and GSTIN; a consecutive serial number not exceeding sixteen characters, unique for the financial year; the date of issue; the recipient's name, address and GSTIN if registered; the HSN or SAC code; description, quantity and unit; total and taxable value; any discount; the rate and amount of CGST, SGST or IGST shown separately; place of supply with the state name for inter-state supplies; a declaration where tax is payable on reverse charge; and signature or digital signature of the supplier. Missing fields make the invoice defective and can jeopardise your buyer's credit.
We pay for foreign software subscriptions and overseas consultants. Is GST payable in India?
Yes. Import of services, meaning services from a supplier located outside India received by a person in India for business, attracts IGST under reverse charge in the recipient's hands, payable in cash and claimable as ITC if eligible. This catches cloud software, foreign professional fees, overseas advertising and licence fees. Two nuances matter: services from a related foreign party, such as your parent company, are taxable even without consideration under Schedule I, and OIDAR services supplied to unregistered consumers are taxed in the foreign supplier's own hands, not under RCM. Startups and IT firms in Kovur paying by card frequently miss these entries; reconcile foreign remittances against RCM paid annually.
Is GST still charged on health insurance premiums?
Not on individual policies. With effect from 22 September 2025, premiums on all individual life insurance policies and individual health insurance policies, including family floater and senior citizen plans, are exempt from GST, along with their reinsurance. Earlier these attracted 18 percent, so the change directly reduces the premium outgo for households. Group policies taken by businesses for employees continue to be taxable, and the input tax credit position on such group covers still depends on whether the cover is statutorily obligatory. When renewing policies, check that the insurer has passed on the exemption rather than merely repricing the premium.
How is interest calculated on a GST demand or late payment?
Interest runs at 18 percent per annum under Section 50 on tax paid after the due date, computed day-wise from the day following the due date until payment. Following amendments, interest on delayed GSTR-3B liability applies on the portion paid through the electronic cash ledger, and interest on wrongly availed ITC arises where the credit has been both availed and utilised. Interest is payable even where no penalty applies, and it cannot be waived by the officer. Because interest compounds silently over long disputes, paying the admitted tax early through DRC-03, even while contesting the rest, often saves a substantial amount.
How long does QRMP quarterly filing take in Kovur?
IFF by the 13th, GSTR-3B by the 22nd after each quarter. That assumes your documents are complete and there is no departmental query. We start the same day we receive your papers and tell you the realistic completion date upfront rather than an optimistic one. Where the GST portal or the officer causes delay — clarifications, physical verification or system issues — we track it daily and keep you informed on WhatsApp.
Is there a GST consultant near Kovur for qrmp scheme filing?

What documents are required for QRMP quarterly filing in Kovur?
For QRMP quarterly filing you will generally need: Monthly sales invoices or sales register, Purchase invoices for input tax credit, Credit notes and debit notes for the quarter, GST portal login credentials, Previous quarter GSTR-3B copy for fixed sum method computation. Send what you have on WhatsApp to +91 - 9600 606 444 and we will confirm within the same working day exactly what else is needed, so nothing is rejected later for a missing paper.
