Trade Profile and GST Jurisdiction for Nandambakkam

Nandambakkam, on Mount-Poonamallee Road beside the Adyar river, is defined by the Chennai Trade Centre exhibition complex and the Officers Training Academy belt near St. Thomas Mount. Exhibition organisers, stall fabricators, caterers and AV rental firms work event cycles here, wrestling with 18 per cent GST on stall licensing, place-of-supply rules for out-of-state exhibitors and input tax credit on temporary structures. When businesses of this kind evaluate QRMP Quarterly Filing, the real question is not price alone but who answers when something goes wrong. We serve Nandambakkam, St. Thomas Mount and Guindy on a standing commitment: responses within the same working day, senior scrutiny before every submission, and continued support if the department ever writes back on work carrying our preparation.

GST jurisdiction for Nandambakkam (PIN 600089): businesses here generally fall under the CGST Chennai South Commissionerate. We regularly represent clients from Nandambakkam before this jurisdiction for registrations, clarifications and notice hearings, and can confirm your exact division and range from your GSTIN. State-jurisdiction cases are handled with the Tamil Nadu Commercial Taxes Department.
GST for Hospitals and Clinics in Nandambakkam
Healthcare services by clinical establishments and doctors are exempt, but a clinic in Nandambakkam rarely earns exempt income alone. Pharmacy sales to outpatients, implants billed separately, and cosmetic or aesthetic procedures undertaken for appearance rather than treatment are all taxable, and room charges above Rs.5,000 per day for non-ICU rooms attract 5 percent without credit. Exempt receipts still count towards aggregate turnover, so a hospital with a busy pharmacy can need registration despite mostly exempt revenue. A specialist separates the taxable streams, applies Rule 42 reversals on common expenses like housekeeping and equipment maintenance, and keeps the exemption for core treatment intact.
The cost of QRMP Quarterly Filing in Nandambakkam starts at Rs.1,499 as a fixed professional fee quoted upfront, with any government fees shown separately and no hidden additions later.
Why Us

Why Nandambakkam Businesses Choose ChennaiGST

Not a bulk-filing portal. A senior consultant knows your file, your jurisdiction and your deadlines.

✓

Support in Tamil and English

GST is confusing enough without a language barrier. Our team explains notices, tax positions and filing requirements in plain Tamil or English, whichever you and your staff in Nandambakkam are comfortable with, and keeps written communication simple and jargon-free.

✓

ITC Maximisation Within the Law

We match your purchase register against GSTR-2B every period, follow up on invoices your suppliers have not uploaded, and ensure every rupee of eligible input tax credit is claimed. Clients routinely recover credit they were silently losing under self-filing.

✓

E-Commerce Seller Reconciliation, Including TCS

Sellers on Amazon, Flipkart and other marketplaces face a three-way match between marketplace reports, GSTR-1 and the TCS the operator deposits against your GSTIN. We reconcile all three every period and accept the TCS credit, so sellers in Nandambakkam never leave marketplace deductions unclaimed.

✓

Familiar with Chennai Jurisdictions and Officers' Expectations

We work with Chennai GST ranges and circles every week, including the jurisdiction covering Nandambakkam. We know how local proper officers examine registrations, what supporting documents they routinely call for, and how to present a file so it moves without repeated queries.

✓

E-Invoice and E-Way Bill Fluency

E-invoicing is mandatory once turnover crosses Rs.5 crore and e-way bills apply to goods movements above Rs.50,000. We set up, train and troubleshoot both systems, so your despatches from Nandambakkam are never held up by a compliance gap at the gate.

✓

Job Work Movements Tracked Through ITC-04

Goods sent to job workers must move on delivery challans, return within the statutory period, and be reported in ITC-04. We track every outward and return leg for manufacturing clients in Nandambakkam, so inputs sent out for processing never quietly convert into a deemed supply carrying tax and interest.

How It Works

Our QRMP Filing Process

Scheme setup and assessment

We confirm your eligibility under the Rs.5 crore limit, compare QRMP against monthly filing for your business, and select or continue the scheme on the portal.

Monthly IFF uploads

In the first two months of the quarter we upload your B2B invoices through the Invoice Furnishing Facility by the 13th, so customers see credit in their GSTR-2B promptly.

Monthly tax payment

We compute tax for each of the first two months under the fixed sum or self-assessment method and generate the PMT-06 challan for payment by the 25th.

Quarterly return preparation

After the quarter ends we consolidate all three months of sales and purchases, reconcile input tax credit with GSTR-2B, and prepare GSTR-1 and GSTR-3B.

Filing and reporting

With your confirmation we file quarterly GSTR-1 by the 13th and GSTR-3B by the 22nd, then share acknowledgements and a quarterly tax summary for your records.

Outcomes

What You Get

A Professional Face on Every Invoice

Correct, complete tax invoices signal a well-run business to customers, vendors and banks alike, quietly strengthening your credibility in every transaction where your paperwork is seen.

Every Eligible Rupee of ITC Claimed

Systematic GSTR-2B matching and supplier follow-up mean input tax credit that was leaking away under self-filing is captured each month, directly reducing the cash you pay out with every GSTR-3B.

Why a Specialist Matters

With ChennaiGST vs Doing It Yourself

AspectWith ChennaiGSTDIY / Unattended
Risk of noticesGSTR-1, GSTR-3B and GSTR-2B reconciled before filing, removing the mismatches that trigger most scrutiny notices.Inconsistent figures across returns quietly build a mismatch history that surfaces later as ASMT-10 scrutiny or a demand notice.
Refund claimsRFD-01 filed with complete statements and annexures, tracked from ARN to bank credit, with any deficiency memo answered promptly.Incomplete claims bounce back as deficiency memos while the refund sits unclaimed for months and working capital stays blocked.
Record keepingEvery return, challan, acknowledgement and working paper archived in an organised folder, retrievable in minutes years later.Documents scattered across email, downloads and old phones; assembling records for a bank or an audit takes days.
Due-date trackingA maintained compliance calendar with internal cut-offs days before the 11th and the 20th; we chase you for data, not the other way around.Deadlines remembered from memory or phone alarms; one busy week and the return slips past the due date.
Keeping up with changesRate changes, portal updates and new thresholds such as the Rs.5 crore e-invoice limit are tracked by us and applied to your case proactively.Changes are discovered after the fact — often through a rejected filing, a blocked e-way bill or a departmental letter.
Portal credentials and dataLogins handled by a small engaged team under strict confidentiality, with credentials stored securely and never passed onward.Passwords circulating on chats with freelancers and part-timers, and no accountability for who has accessed your business data.

GST Council

Council fixes the basic GST registration threshold at Rs 20 lakh

1st GST Council Meeting, New Delhi — 22-23 September 2016 (Signed Minutes, Agenda Item 3) · 2016-09-23

At its very first meeting the Council debated exemption thresholds ranging from Rs 10 lakh to Rs 25 lakh and finally agreed that a business would not need GST registration until its aggregate turnover crossed Rs 20 lakh. For the eleven Special Category States listed in Article 279A of the Constitution, the threshold was set at Rs 10 lakh. The Chairperson recorded that the figure would be reviewed after five years, once the compensation guarantee to States had run its course.

Why this matters: The Rs 20 lakh figure that still governs whether a small Chennai service business must register was settled at this meeting and has been the starting point for every later threshold change.

Notification

Compensation cess on pan masala and tobacco shifted to retail sale price

Notification No. 2/2023-Compensation Cess (Rate), dated 31 March 2023 · 2023-03-31

Following the Finance Act, 2023 amendment to the Compensation Cess Act, the cess on pan masala, gutkha, chewing tobacco, zarda and similar products stopped being charged as a percentage of transaction value and became a specific levy computed on the declared retail sale price per unit, with effect from 1 April 2023. Pan masala, for example, moved from an ad valorem rate to a rate expressed as a proportion of retail sale price, a change designed to defeat undervaluation in the tobacco trade.

What to do about it: Tobacco and pan masala dealers must print and track retail sale price per pack, since the cess is now computed on that figure rather than the invoice value.

AAR Ruling

Ladies hostel run from rented premises, with food, held taxable

Nithiyashree Ladies Hostel - AAR Tamil Nadu, Advance Ruling No. 77/AAR/2023, dated 4 September 2023 · 2023-09-04

The applicant ran a ladies hostel in premises it had itself taken on rent and supplied accommodation together with food and related services. It sought exemption on the footing that this was renting of residential accommodation. The Authority held the supply classifiable under heading 9963 and taxable at 9 percent central tax and 9 percent State tax, treating hostel accommodation with attached services as a taxable service and not as renting of a residential dwelling for use as a residence.

Practical effect: Chennai hostel and paying guest operators should not assume exemption; the outcome turns on the exact facts and on later High Court rulings.

FAQs

Frequently Asked Questions

Straight answers from practising GST consultants — based on the CGST Act, current CBIC notifications and day-to-day portal experience.

How much does QRMP quarterly filing cost in Nandambakkam?
Our fee for QRMP quarterly filing in Nandambakkam starts at Rs.1,499/quarter and is quoted in full before we begin — there are no hidden charges added later. The fee covers professional work end to end: document review, preparation, filing and follow-up until completion. Government fees or portal charges, where applicable, are separate and always shown to you upfront. For an exact quote based on your turnover and business type, call +91 - 9600 606 444 and a consultant will confirm it on the call.
What documents are required for QRMP quarterly filing in Nandambakkam?
For QRMP quarterly filing you will generally need: Monthly sales invoices or sales register, Purchase invoices for input tax credit, Credit notes and debit notes for the quarter, GST portal login credentials, Previous quarter GSTR-3B copy for fixed sum method computation. The exact list depends on your constitution — proprietorship, partnership, LLP or company — and on the specifics of your case. Send what you have on WhatsApp to +91 - 9600 606 444 and we will confirm within the same working day exactly what else is needed, so nothing is rejected later for a missing paper.
What is IFF in the QRMP scheme?
The Invoice Furnishing Facility (IFF) is an optional facility for QRMP taxpayers to upload B2B invoices for the first two months of a quarter, by the 13th of the following month, up to Rs.50 lakh of invoice value per month. Invoices uploaded through IFF appear in your buyers' GSTR-2B immediately, so they can claim input tax credit without waiting for your quarterly GSTR-1. If your customers are registered businesses that press for timely credit, using IFF keeps them happy. We file IFF for QRMP clients in Nandambakkam as part of the standard package.
How and when can I opt in or out of the QRMP scheme?
The option is exercised on the GST portal under Services, Returns, Opt-in for Quarterly Return. The window for any quarter runs from the first day of the second month of the preceding quarter to the last day of the first month of the quarter you are opting for. For example, to be under QRMP for July to September, opt in between 1 May and 31 July. Once chosen, the option continues for future quarters until you change it or your turnover crosses Rs.5 crore. We handle the opt-in for clients at no extra charge.
How do I pay tax monthly under QRMP if the return is only quarterly?
For the first two months of each quarter, tax is deposited through challan PMT-06 by the 25th of the following month. You can use the fixed sum method, paying 35 percent of the tax paid in cash in the previous quarter (or 100 percent of the tax paid in cash in the last month of the previous quarter if you were a monthly filer), or the self-assessment method, paying actual liability after adjusting input tax credit. The third month's tax is settled in the quarterly GSTR-3B itself. We compute the safer option for each client in Nandambakkam every month.
Should I choose QRMP or continue monthly filing?
It depends on your customer profile. QRMP means fewer returns and suits businesses selling mainly to consumers or unregistered buyers. However, if most customers are registered businesses, monthly GSTR-1 (or disciplined use of IFF) gets them input tax credit faster, which many corporate buyers insist on. Cash flow also matters: under QRMP you still pay monthly via PMT-06, so there is no tax deferral, only compliance simplification. We review turnover, buyer mix and working capital before recommending either route to businesses in Nandambakkam. A short call on +91 - 9600 606 444 is enough to decide.
What is the QRMP scheme and can my business opt for it?
QRMP stands for Quarterly Return filing and Monthly Payment. Taxpayers with aggregate turnover up to Rs.5 crore in the preceding financial year can opt in. Under the scheme you file GSTR-1 and GSTR-3B once a quarter instead of every month, but you still pay tax monthly through challan PMT-06 for the first two months of the quarter. It reduces filing effort from 24 returns a year to 8, which suits most small traders and service providers in Nandambakkam. We can check your eligibility and opt you in on the portal.
I am under QRMP in Chennai. When is my quarterly GSTR-3B due?
For taxpayers registered in Tamil Nadu, which falls in the category of states with the earlier date, the quarterly GSTR-3B under QRMP is due on the 22nd of the month following the quarter. So the return for April to June is due by 22 July, and so on for each quarter. The quarterly GSTR-1 is due by the 13th of the same month. Mark both dates, because late fee and 18 percent interest apply on delays just as they do for monthly filers. Call +91 - 9600 606 444 if you want us to manage the calendar.
When should I issue a bill of supply instead of a tax invoice?
A bill of supply is issued in two situations: when a registered person supplies exempt or nil-rated goods or services, and when the supplier is a composition dealer, who is barred from collecting tax. It looks similar to a tax invoice but shows no tax rate or tax amount, and a composition dealer must print the words composition taxable person, not eligible to collect tax on supplies on it. A regular taxpayer in Nandambakkam selling both taxable and exempt items needs both document types configured in the billing system, applied item by item based on what is being sold.
What is a debit note under GST and when do I issue one?
You issue a debit note when the taxable value or tax charged in the original invoice was less than what is actually payable, for example a price escalation clause kicking in or a rate charged short. Declaring the debit note in GSTR-1 increases your output liability, payable with interest where the shortfall relates to an earlier period. There is no outer time limit on issuing a debit note itself. For your buyer, the debit note is a credit document: following the amendment to Section 16(4), the buyer's time limit to claim ITC runs from the date of the debit note, not the original invoice.
Can I issue a single credit note against several invoices?
Yes. Since the amendment to Section 34 by the CGST (Amendment) Act, 2018, effective 1 February 2019, the law permits one or more credit notes to be issued against one or more tax invoices of a financial year. A distributor giving a season-end adjustment to a retailer can therefore issue one consolidated credit note covering dozens of invoices, rather than one note per bill. When reporting it in GSTR-1, the portal accepts credit notes without invoice-wise linking for this reason. Maintain a working annexed to the credit note listing the invoices covered, because in scrutiny the officer will ask you to establish the linkage and the arithmetic.
I have taken a house on rent and I am GST registered. Does reverse charge hit my house rent?
Only in defined situations. From 18 July 2022, renting of a residential dwelling to a registered person attracts 18 percent under reverse charge in the tenant's hands. However, where a registered proprietor rents the dwelling in a personal capacity for use as his own residence, and on his own account rather than for the business, the exemption applies and no tax arises. If a company takes a flat as a guest house or for employee accommodation, RCM applies, and note that ITC on such rent may face challenge as a personal consumption expense. Document the purpose of the tenancy in the rent agreement so the correct treatment is defensible.
Can I reduce GST for discounts given after the sale, like turnover incentives?
Only if three conditions in Section 15(3)(b) are met: the discount was established under an agreement that existed before or at the time of supply, it can be linked to specific invoices, and the recipient reverses the input tax credit attributable to it. If all three hold, you issue a GST credit note and reduce your output tax. If any condition fails, which is common for year-end volume incentives negotiated later, the adjustment must go through a commercial credit note without any GST effect. Distributor incentive schemes run from Nandambakkam should be papered before the season starts, not after.
What GST rate applies to cars and two-wheelers now?
Small cars, meaning petrol cars up to 1200cc and diesel cars up to 1500cc with length not exceeding 4 metres, attract 18 percent GST, down sharply from the earlier 28 percent plus cess. Larger cars, SUVs above these specifications, attract the 40 percent rate, but with the compensation cess gone, the overall burden on most of them is still lower than before. Motorcycles up to 350cc are at 18 percent, while those above 350cc attract 40 percent. Electric vehicles continue at a concessional 5 percent. Dealers must also apply these rates to demo vehicle sales.
How do I file Form PMT-09 to move money between heads in my cash ledger?
Log in and open Services, then Ledgers, then Electronic Cash Ledger, and select File GST PMT-09 for transfer of amount. The screen shows your balance under each major and minor head. Choose the transfer-from head and amount, choose the transfer-to head, add the details to the table, preview and file with DSC or EVC. The transfer reflects in the ledger immediately and an ARN is generated for your records. There is no limit on how often PMT-09 can be filed, and no government fee applies, so it is always the first fix for a wrong-head deposit.
Is GST payable under reverse charge on payments made to our company directors?
It depends on the capacity in which the director is paid. CBIC Circular 140/10/2020 settles the position: remuneration to a whole-time or executive director who is an employee, paid as salary with TDS under Section 192, is outside GST entirely as an employer-employee transaction. In contrast, sitting fees, commission and professional charges paid to independent or non-executive directors, typically suffering TDS under Section 194J, are taxable and the company pays 18 percent under reverse charge, claiming ITC. Companies in Nandambakkam should split their director payments ledger accordingly, issue self-invoices for the RCM portion, and keep board resolutions and TDS treatment consistent as supporting evidence.
Why is there GST on an under-construction flat but not on a ready-to-move one?
Construction of an apartment intended for sale is a supply of service only when any part of the consideration is received before the completion certificate is issued or before first occupation. Such under-construction sales attract 1 percent for affordable residential apartments and 5 percent for other residential apartments, both without input tax credit to the builder. Once the completion certificate is issued, sale of the building is neither a supply of goods nor of services under Schedule III, so a ready-to-move flat carries no GST at all, only stamp duty and registration charges. Timing of booking therefore changes the buyer's cost materially.
What is the electronic liability register on the GST portal and why should I check it?
The electronic liability register, maintained in Form PMT-01, records every liability raised against your GSTIN: self-assessed tax from returns in Part I, and demands from assessments, adjudication orders and DRC-07 summaries in Part II. Payments and pre-deposits are set off against these entries. You can view it under Services, then Ledgers. Checking Part II periodically matters because demand entries you never noticed can trigger recovery, interest accumulation and refund adjustments. During any refund claim, the officer will offset outstanding register balances, so a clean register speeds up your money. We review all three ledgers in every Nandambakkam health check.
Can I get QRMP quarterly filing done online without visiting the office?
Yes, the entire process can be handled online. You share scanned documents on WhatsApp or email, we prepare and file everything on the GST portal, and you receive the acknowledgement and filed copies digitally. Businesses in Nandambakkam regularly complete QRMP filing with us without a single office visit. If a physical verification or personal hearing is required by the department, we guide you through it.
Are there any hidden charges for QRMP quarterly filing?
No. The fee quoted before we start is the fee you pay. Government fees, portal charges or statutory late fees, where they apply, are separate and disclosed to you in advance with the exact amount. We issue a proper GST invoice for our professional fee. If the scope of work changes — for example, an unexpected notice or additional periods — we tell you the revised fee before doing anything further.
What is the process for QRMP quarterly filing?
The process runs in clear stages: Scheme setup and assessment; Monthly IFF uploads; Monthly tax payment; Quarterly return preparation. A senior consultant reviews your file at each stage rather than passing it to a data-entry desk, and you receive a confirmation with the filed documents once it is complete. You always know which stage your work is at — we update you on WhatsApp instead of leaving you to follow up.
