Trade Profile and GST Jurisdiction for 12th Street, Adambakkam

Finding dependable GST Refund RFD-01 in Adambakkam usually means choosing between a distant online portal and an overloaded local accountant. Adambakkam packs hardware, sanitaryware, electrical and provision trade into New Colony Main Road, Brindavan Nagar Main Road, Kakkan Nagar Main Road and Income Tax Main Road, with the Inner Ring Road and Velachery Main Road carrying goods towards Guindy and Ekkattuthangal. Job-work units and works-contract sub-contractors around the TNHB Colony and Dandeeswaram belt misjudge the twelve against eighteen per cent job-work rate and lose credit on delivery-challan movements. We offer a third option: a professional Chennai GST practice that treats Adambakkam, Nanganallur and Ullagaram as home ground, responds the same working day, files ahead of deadlines, and stands behind its work if a notice ever arrives on a return we prepared.

GST jurisdiction for Adambakkam (PIN 600088): businesses here generally fall under the CGST Chennai South Commissionerate. We regularly represent clients from Adambakkam before this jurisdiction for registrations, clarifications and notice hearings, and can confirm your exact division and range from your GSTIN. State-jurisdiction cases are handled with the Tamil Nadu Commercial Taxes Department.
GST for Professional Services Firms in Adambakkam
Professional firms bill at 18 percent, but the mechanics differ by profession: services of advocates to business entities are taxed in the client's hands under reverse charge, while chartered accountants, company secretaries and architects charge tax on their own invoices. Fees received in advance are taxable on receipt, and retainers must be invoiced within the time limits of Section 31(2). Amounts recovered from clients as a pure agent, such as government fees paid on their behalf, stay outside taxable value only if every condition of Rule 33 is met and documented. A specialist sets up retainer invoicing, pure agent documentation and branch cross-charges correctly; call +91 - 9600 606 444 to discuss your firm.
Yes, small businesses in Adambakkam can use professional GST Refund RFD-01 affordably — fees start at Rs.4,999, which is usually far less than one period of late fees and lost input tax credit.
Why Us

Why 12th Street, Adambakkam Businesses Choose ChennaiGST

Not a bulk-filing portal. A senior consultant knows your file, your jurisdiction and your deadlines.

Fast, Clean Registrations and Amendments

New GSTIN applications, core field amendments through REG-14, additional places of business — we prepare complete, query-resistant applications the first time. Clean paperwork is the difference between smooth approval and weeks lost answering clarification memos from the department.

A Real Local Office You Can Walk Into

We are a Chennai firm with a physical office, not a faceless portal. If you prefer to sit across a table with your papers, you are welcome. Clients from Adambakkam regularly visit us for registrations, notice discussions and annual return reviews.

Waiver and Amnesty Windows Applied for You

Whenever the GST Council notifies a late-fee waiver or an amnesty window for pending returns or old demands, we check every client's history against it and act within the deadline. Relief that businesses in Adambakkam would otherwise read about after it lapsed reaches our clients in time.

Notice Support Does Not Stop at Filing

If a query, ASMT-10 scrutiny notice or DRC-01 arrives on a return we filed, we stand behind our work and help you draft the reply. You are not left alone with a departmental letter and a thirty-day clock ticking against you.

Clean Exits When a Business Closes

Winding up attracts its own GST obligations — the cancellation application, reversal of credit on closing stock, and the final return in GSTR-10 within three months. We close registrations properly so a business you shut in Adambakkam never writes back to you as a demand years later.

E-Commerce Seller Reconciliation, Including TCS

Sellers on Amazon, Flipkart and other marketplaces face a three-way match between marketplace reports, GSTR-1 and the TCS the operator deposits against your GSTIN. We reconcile all three every period and accept the TCS credit, so sellers in Adambakkam never leave marketplace deductions unclaimed.

How It Works

Our GST Refund Process

Eligibility and computation

We identify the correct refund category, confirm the two-year limitation from the relevant date, and compute the admissible amount using the formula prescribed under the rules.

Document compilation

Invoices, shipping bills, FIRCs, the LUT and ledger extracts are compiled into the prescribed statements, and gaps that commonly cause deficiency memos are fixed upfront.

RFD-01 filing

The refund application is filed on the portal with all annexures and declarations, and the acknowledgement in RFD-02 is tracked within the statutory fifteen days.

Departmental follow-up

We respond to any deficiency memo in RFD-03 or show cause notice in RFD-08, appear through written submissions, and pursue provisional refund where the category permits.

Sanction and credit

We track the sanction order in RFD-06 and payment advice in RFD-05, confirm the credit in your validated bank account, and archive the complete claim file.

Outcomes

What You Get

Practical outcomes our clients measure us by.

The Lowest Tax Position the Law Allows

Your scheme choice — regular, composition or QRMP — is re-examined as turnover and margins change, so you are always paying under the structure that legitimately costs your business the least.

Better Cash Flow Planning

You know your expected GST outflow days before the 20th, not on the night of filing. That advance visibility lets you plan payments, collections and bank balances instead of scrambling for funds at the deadline.

Notices Answered Within the Time Limit

Statutory windows such as thirty days for an ASMT-11 reply are tracked from the day a notice arrives, so responses go in on time, complete, and with your best case properly presented.

No Money Idling in the Cash Ledger

Excess balances parked in the electronic cash ledger are identified during regular ledger reviews and either utilised against upcoming liability or claimed back as a refund, instead of sitting interest-free with the government.

Tax Paid Under the Right Head

Getting IGST versus CGST and SGST right at the invoice stage spares you the painful cycle of paying the correct head again and pursuing a refund of the amount paid under the wrong one.

Every Eligible Rupee of ITC Claimed

Systematic GSTR-2B matching and supplier follow-up mean input tax credit that was leaking away under self-filing is captured each month, directly reducing the cash you pay out with every GSTR-3B.

Why a Specialist Matters

With ChennaiGST vs Doing It Yourself

AspectWith ChennaiGSTDIY / Unattended
Refund claimsRFD-01 filed with complete statements and annexures, tracked from ARN to bank credit, with any deficiency memo answered promptly.Incomplete claims bounce back as deficiency memos while the refund sits unclaimed for months and working capital stays blocked.
Supplier defaultsSuppliers who stop uploading invoices are identified within the period and pursued before their default becomes your blocked credit.Missing supplier invoices surface only when credit is denied, by which time recovering the amount from the vendor is difficult.
Time costRoughly an hour a month to send data and approve drafts; the portal work, reconciliation and follow-up are ours.Hours every month lost to portal errors, JSON files, OTP failures and reworking figures — usually on the due date itself.
Input tax creditPurchase register matched against GSTR-2B each period, with defaulting suppliers chased so eligible credit is actually captured.Credit claimed from books alone; mismatches with GSTR-2B mean lost credit or excess claims that invite departmental queries.
Annual return preparationMonthly reconciliations roll naturally into GSTR-9, filed comfortably before 31 December with figures already agreed through the year.Twelve months of unmatched data reconstructed in December, with differences discovered too late to be corrected cleanly.
Risk of noticesGSTR-1, GSTR-3B and GSTR-2B reconciled before filing, removing the mismatches that trigger most scrutiny notices.Inconsistent figures across returns quietly build a mismatch history that surfaces later as ASMT-10 scrutiny or a demand notice.

GST Support on 12th Street, Adambakkam

12th Street is a residential street in Adambakkam, about 1.1 km north of the centre of Adambakkam. The same consultant covers the streets immediately around it — TNHB Colony 1st Avenue (about 50 m); 3rd Street (about 100 m); Dr. Ambedkar 1st Main Road (about 100 m); 2nd Avenue (about 150 m) — so a site visit on 12th Street can usually be combined with other work in Adambakkam on the same trip. For GST purposes an address on 12th Street falls under the Chennai South CGST Commissionerate, and the Adambakkam pincode is 600088.

Case Law & Notifications

What the Department and the Courts Have Said — relevant to Adambakkam businesses

We track every notification, circular and judgment that changes a filing position, so your returns and replies reflect the current law.

Circular

The GSTR-2A refund restriction does not apply to imports, ISD or reverse charge credit

Circular No. 139/09/2020-GST dated 10 June 2020 · 2020-06-10

Circular 135/05/2020 had restricted refund of accumulated input tax credit to invoices reflected in FORM GSTR-2A, which caused difficulty because credit on imports, on invoices issued by an input service distributor and on supplies liable to reverse charge never appears there. CBIC clarified that the restriction was never intended to cover those categories, and that refund of credit availed on such documents continues to be allowed on the strength of the documents themselves.

What it means for you: Importers and firms paying reverse charge in Chennai should quote this circular if a refund officer disallows credit merely because it is absent from GSTR-2A.

Case Law

Refund resubmitted after a deficiency memo relates back to the original filing date for limitation

M/s. Gillette Diversified Operations (P) Ltd v. Joint Commissioner of GST & Central Excise (Appeals-II) — Madras High Court, W.P. Nos. 6524, 6527, 6531, 6537 and 6541 of 2022, decided 5 February 2025 (C. Saravanan J.) · 2025-02-05

Refund claims for unutilised credit on zero-rated exports of July to September 2017 were filed on 21 September, 9 October and 10 October 2018, returned through deficiency memos, and resubmitted later. The appellate authority treated the resubmissions as fresh applications and rejected them as time-barred. The Court allowed three of the five petitions and quashed those orders, holding that the original applications were within two years of the exports and that a resubmission after curing deficiencies cannot start a new limitation period, the 2021 proviso to Rule 90(3) not applying retrospectively.

What to do about it: Chennai exporters whose refund was returned by a deficiency memo should preserve the original ARN and acknowledgement — limitation is counted from that first filing, not the re-filed one.

Portal Advisory

CBIC answers on what counts as pre-packaged and labelled

CBIC Frequently Asked Questions on GST on pre-packaged and labelled goods, dated 17 July 2022 · 2022-07-17

A day before the change took effect, the Tax Research Unit issued FAQs explaining that the expression takes its meaning from the Legal Metrology Act, 2009 and covers commodities intended for retail sale in packs of up to twenty-five kilograms or twenty-five litres that must bear statutory declarations. A single package above that limit is not covered, nor are packs supplied to an industrial or institutional consumer. Loose sale from a large pack by a retailer does not attract the levy.

What it means for you: A fifty-kilogram rice bag sold as one package stays outside the levy, but the moment it is repacked into labelled retail bags of twenty-five kilograms or less, five per cent applies.

FAQs

Frequently Asked Questions

Straight answers from practising GST consultants — based on the CGST Act, current CBIC notifications and day-to-day portal experience.

Are there any hidden charges for GST refund RFD-01?
No. The fee quoted before we start is the fee you pay. Government fees, portal charges or statutory late fees, where they apply, are separate and disclosed to you in advance with the exact amount. We issue a proper GST invoice for our professional fee. If the scope of work changes — for example, an unexpected notice or additional periods — we tell you the revised fee before doing anything further.
Do you provide gst refund application for small businesses and proprietorships in Adambakkam?
Yes. A large share of our clients in Adambakkam are proprietors, small traders, shop owners, freelancers and family businesses rather than large companies. The fee of Rs.4,999 and the process are the same regardless of size, and we explain the compliance position in plain language — in Tamil or English — so you understand what is being filed on your behalf and why.
I run a software services company in Adambakkam billing US clients. Can I claim a GST refund?
Yes, provided your supplies qualify as export of services: the recipient is outside India, payment is received in convertible foreign exchange, and you and the client are not merely establishments of the same person. Export of services is zero-rated, so if you supply under LUT without charging IGST, the ITC on your rent, software subscriptions and other business inputs can be refunded through RFD-01. You must attach FIRC or bank realisation certificates proving foreign exchange receipt. Many IT exporters in Adambakkam accumulate lakhs in unclaimed credit; call +91 - 9600 606 444 for a free eligibility review.
I deposited extra money in my GST cash ledger by mistake. Can I get it back?
Yes. Excess balance lying in the electronic cash ledger can be claimed back by filing RFD-01 under the category refund of excess balance in electronic cash ledger. This is one of the simplest refund types because no invoice statements are required; the portal auto-populates the ledger balance and you simply select the amount and the bank account for credit. This commonly happens when tax is deposited under the wrong head, for example CGST instead of IGST. Businesses in Adambakkam facing this issue can call +91 - 9600 606 444 and the claim can usually be filed the same day.
I received a deficiency memo RFD-03 against my refund claim. What should I do?
A deficiency memo in RFD-03 means the officer found your application incomplete, and the application is treated as not filed. You cannot reply to an RFD-03; you must file a fresh RFD-01 after curing the defects, and the debited ITC or cash is re-credited to your ledger. Importantly, the fresh application must still fall within the original two-year limitation, so act quickly. Read the memo carefully, fix every listed deficiency, and refile with a covering note. Businesses in Adambakkam that receive repeated memos usually have invoice statement formatting issues that are easy to correct professionally.
What is an inverted duty structure refund and does my business qualify?
An inverted duty structure arises when the GST rate on your inputs is higher than the rate on your outward supplies, causing input tax credit to accumulate. For example, a manufacturer buying raw material at 18 percent and selling finished goods at 5 percent will qualify. Refund of the accumulated ITC is claimed through RFD-01 using the formula prescribed in Rule 89(5), filed within two years of the due date of the relevant return. Certain notified goods are excluded from this refund, so eligibility should be checked against current CBIC notifications before applying.
My GST refund was rejected by the officer. Do I have any remedy?
Yes. Before rejection, the officer must issue a notice in RFD-08 and consider your reply in RFD-09, so a rejection without hearing you is itself challengeable. Against a rejection order in RFD-06, you can file an appeal in Form APL-01 before the appellate authority within three months of the order. The ITC debited for the rejected claim is re-credited through PMT-03 where applicable. Appeals on refund matters frequently succeed where the rejection was for curable documentation gaps, so preserve every acknowledgement and reply. Professional drafting of the appeal grounds materially improves outcomes.
What are deemed exports and who claims the refund, the supplier or the buyer?
Deemed exports are notified domestic supplies treated like exports even though goods do not leave India, such as supplies to Export Oriented Units, supplies against Advance Authorisation, and supplies of capital goods against EPCG authorisation. Tax is paid on these supplies, and the refund of that tax can be claimed through RFD-01 by either the recipient or, where the recipient furnishes an undertaking that it will not claim the refund and will not avail ITC, by the supplier. The claim must be filed within two years and supported by the prescribed acknowledgements and undertakings.
How exactly do I pay RCM in my return and claim it back as credit?
Report the taxable value and tax in Table 3.1(d) of GSTR-3B; this liability must be discharged in cash through the electronic cash ledger, because input tax credit cannot be used to pay reverse charge dues. In the same return, claim the amount as ITC in Table 4(A)(2) or 4(A)(3), so the net impact is usually nil. RCM invoices from registered suppliers like GTAs appear in GSTR-2B, but credit for unregistered-supplier RCM rests on your self-invoice, and Circular 211/5/2024 confirms the Section 16(4) deadline runs from the year of that self-invoice. Businesses in Adambakkam that skip the 3.1(d) reporting but claim the credit invite automatic mismatch flags.
My supplier has not uploaded an invoice and it is missing from GSTR-2B. Can I still claim the ITC?
No, not until it appears. Since 1 January 2022, Section 16(2)(aa) permits ITC only on invoices furnished by the supplier in GSTR-1 and communicated to you in GSTR-2B; the earlier provisional credit tolerance is gone. Claiming credit on a missing invoice invites a Rule 88D intimation and reversal with interest at 18 percent. The practical remedy is vendor follow-up: withhold the tax portion of payment until the supplier uploads, and claim the credit in the month it appears in GSTR-2B, subject to the overall time limit of 30 November following the financial year. Vendor discipline clauses in purchase orders help enormously.
I am selling old machinery on which ITC was claimed. Do I have to pay anything back?
Yes. Under Section 18(6) read with Rule 44, on supply of capital goods on which credit was taken, you must pay the higher of two amounts: the ITC originally availed reduced by five percent per quarter or part thereof from the invoice date, or the tax on the transaction value of the sale. For example, machinery held for three full years has its credit reduced by sixty percent, and you compare the remaining forty percent with the actual tax on the sale price. Refractory bricks, moulds, dies, jigs and fixtures sold as scrap need tax only on transaction value. Compute both figures before invoicing the buyer.
We pay for foreign software subscriptions and overseas consultants. Is GST payable in India?
Yes. Import of services, meaning services from a supplier located outside India received by a person in India for business, attracts IGST under reverse charge in the recipient's hands, payable in cash and claimable as ITC if eligible. This catches cloud software, foreign professional fees, overseas advertising and licence fees. Two nuances matter: services from a related foreign party, such as your parent company, are taxable even without consideration under Schedule I, and OIDAR services supplied to unregistered consumers are taxed in the foreign supplier's own hands, not under RCM. Startups and IT firms in Adambakkam paying by card frequently miss these entries; reconcile foreign remittances against RCM paid annually.
We hire cabs monthly for employee transport in Adambakkam. Who pays the GST?
If the cab operator is not a body corporate, charges 5 percent, and your business is a body corporate, the liability shifts to you under reverse charge. The entry covers renting of motor vehicles designed to carry passengers where the cost of fuel is included in the consideration. If the operator is itself a company, or bills at the higher rate with full ITC, 18 percent since the September 2025 rate rationalisation, forward charge applies and the operator collects the tax. Remember that even after paying RCM, the ITC on employee transport in vehicles seating up to thirteen is blocked under Section 17(5) unless providing the transport is obligatory for the employer under a law.
How is the place of supply decided when I sell goods?
Section 10 of the IGST Act gives the tests. Where the sale involves movement of goods, the place of supply is the location where the movement terminates for delivery to the recipient, whoever arranges the transport. Where there is no movement, it is the location of the goods at the time of delivery, which covers over-the-counter sales and sales of installed machinery in place. Where goods are assembled or installed at site, the place of supply is the site of installation. Getting this right decides whether you charge CGST plus SGST or IGST, and a Adambakkam seller delivering to a Bengaluru buyer charges IGST because delivery terminates in Karnataka.
If I open a bulk bag and sell rice loose by weight, is that sale taxable?
No. The 5% levy on specified food items applies only when they are supplied in pre-packaged and labelled form in packs up to 25 kilograms. When a retailer opens bulk stock and weighs out loose quantities against each customer's order, the supply is not of a pre-packaged commodity, so it remains exempt. What you cannot do is sell an intact labelled retail pack and bill it as loose. Keep purchase records showing bulk procurement and maintain the loose counter separately from the packed shelf, because officers test this distinction during inspections of grocery businesses. When in doubt on a product, call +91 - 9600 606 444.
Why is there GST on an under-construction flat but not on a ready-to-move one?
Construction of an apartment intended for sale is a supply of service only when any part of the consideration is received before the completion certificate is issued or before first occupation. Such under-construction sales attract 1 percent for affordable residential apartments and 5 percent for other residential apartments, both without input tax credit to the builder. Once the completion certificate is issued, sale of the building is neither a supply of goods nor of services under Schedule III, so a ready-to-move flat carries no GST at all, only stamp duty and registration charges. Timing of booking therefore changes the buyer's cost materially.
Which purchases commonly attract GST under reverse charge for a regular business?
Under Section 9(3), the recipient pays tax on notified supplies. The entries a typical business in Adambakkam encounters are: goods transport agency services, services of advocates and arbitral tribunals, sponsorship provided to companies and partnership firms, services of directors, security services from non-corporate providers, renting of passenger motor vehicles from non-corporate operators charging five percent, import of services, and renting of property from unregistered landlords in notified cases. Each month, scan your expense ledger for these heads, pay the tax in cash through GSTR-3B, and claim it back as ITC where eligible. Missed RCM is among the top audit findings; call +91 - 9600 606 444 for an RCM exposure review.
What are OIDAR services under GST and who pays the tax on them?
OIDAR means Online Information Database Access or Retrieval services, delivered over the internet, such as cloud services, e-books, streaming, online advertising and automated e-learning. When a foreign OIDAR provider supplies these to unregistered persons in India, the foreign provider itself must take a simplified registration in Form REG-10 and file monthly return GSTR-5A. From 1 October 2023, the definition was widened, so almost every unregistered Indian recipient is covered. When the Indian recipient is GST-registered, the tax instead falls on the recipient under reverse charge as an import of services.
What documents are required for GST refund RFD-01 in Adambakkam?
For GST refund RFD-01 you will generally need: Export invoices and shipping bills, for export refund claims, FIRC or bank realisation certificates for export proceeds, Copy of LUT filed in RFD-11, for exports without payment of tax, GSTR-1 and GSTR-3B filed copies for the claim period, GSTR-2B and purchase invoices supporting input tax credit. The exact list depends on your constitution — proprietorship, partnership, LLP or company — and on the specifics of your case. Send what you have on WhatsApp to +91 - 9600 606 444 and we will confirm within the same working day exactly what else is needed, so nothing is rejected later for a missing paper.
