Trade Profile and GST Jurisdiction for 1st Main Road, Adambakkam

Every locality in Chennai has its own commercial rhythm, and Adambakkam is no exception. Adambakkam packs hardware, sanitaryware, electrical and provision trade into New Colony Main Road, Brindavan Nagar Main Road, Kakkan Nagar Main Road and Income Tax Main Road, with the Inner Ring Road and Velachery Main Road carrying goods towards Guindy and Ekkattuthangal. Job-work units and works-contract sub-contractors around the TNHB Colony and Dandeeswaram belt misjudge the twelve against eighteen per cent job-work rate and lose credit on delivery-challan movements. Our practice has shaped its GSTR-1 & GSTR-3B Monthly Filing work around exactly these realities, serving clients in Adambakkam as well as Nanganallur and Ullagaram. Registrations, returns, refunds and notice replies are handled by one accountable team, with fees fixed in writing before work begins and every filing reconciled against portal data before it is submitted.

GST jurisdiction for Adambakkam (PIN 600088): businesses here generally fall under the CGST Chennai South Commissionerate. We regularly represent clients from Adambakkam before this jurisdiction for registrations, clarifications and notice hearings, and can confirm your exact division and range from your GSTIN. State-jurisdiction cases are handled with the Tamil Nadu Commercial Taxes Department.
GST for Manufacturers in Adambakkam
Manufacturing compliance revolves around movement documents. Inputs sent to job workers must travel on Rule 45 delivery challans and return within one year, or three years for capital goods, failing which the original dispatch is treated as a supply with tax and interest. These movements are reported in Form ITC-04, half-yearly for turnover above Rs.5 crore and annually below it. Credit on machinery follows the capital goods rules, waste and scrap sales are fully taxable, and production-to-turnover ratios are a favourite audit test. A specialist keeps the challan register, ITC-04 filings and scrap invoicing aligned so a factory audit finds a closed loop, not loose ends.
Yes, small businesses in Adambakkam can use professional GSTR-1 & GSTR-3B Monthly Filing affordably — fees start at Rs.749, which is usually far less than one period of late fees and lost input tax credit.
Why Us

Why 1st Main Road, Adambakkam Businesses Choose ChennaiGST

Not a bulk-filing portal. A senior consultant knows your file, your jurisdiction and your deadlines.

Familiar with Chennai Jurisdictions and Officers' Expectations

We work with Chennai GST ranges and circles every week, including the jurisdiction covering Adambakkam. We know how local proper officers examine registrations, what supporting documents they routinely call for, and how to present a file so it moves without repeated queries.

A Real Local Office You Can Walk Into

We are a Chennai firm with a physical office, not a faceless portal. If you prefer to sit across a table with your papers, you are welcome. Clients from Adambakkam regularly visit us for registrations, notice discussions and annual return reviews.

ITC Maximisation Within the Law

We match your purchase register against GSTR-2B every period, follow up on invoices your suppliers have not uploaded, and ensure every rupee of eligible input tax credit is claimed. Clients routinely recover credit they were silently losing under self-filing.

QRMP Managed Properly, Not Just Opted Into

Quarterly filing still demands monthly attention — IFF uploads so your buyers see their credit on time, and tax payment through PMT-06 by the 25th for the first two months of each quarter. We run that monthly rhythm so QRMP saves you effort without creating gaps.

E-Invoice and E-Way Bill Fluency

E-invoicing is mandatory once turnover crosses Rs.5 crore and e-way bills apply to goods movements above Rs.50,000. We set up, train and troubleshoot both systems, so your despatches from Adambakkam are never held up by a compliance gap at the gate.

Support in Tamil and English

GST is confusing enough without a language barrier. Our team explains notices, tax positions and filing requirements in plain Tamil or English, whichever you and your staff in Adambakkam are comfortable with, and keeps written communication simple and jargon-free.

How It Works

Our Monthly Returns Process

Monthly data collection

At month end we remind you and collect sales invoices, purchase bills and credit notes in whatever format you maintain, including Excel, Tally exports or scanned copies.

GSTR-1 preparation and filing

We prepare invoice-wise outward supply details, validate GSTINs of your B2B customers, summarise B2C supplies and file GSTR-1 on the portal before the 11th.

ITC reconciliation with GSTR-2B

We download your auto-drafted GSTR-2B, match it against purchase records, and claim only eligible input tax credit so that mismatches do not trigger scrutiny notices later.

Tax computation and confirmation

We compute net tax payable after ITC set-off, share the working with you for approval, and generate the payment challan for any cash liability.

GSTR-3B filing and reporting

After your confirmation and tax payment, we file GSTR-3B before the 20th and send you both filed acknowledgements along with a one-page summary of the month.

Outcomes

What You Get

Practical outcomes our clients measure us by.

Smooth Scheme Transitions

Whether moving between composition and regular scheme, opting into QRMP, or crossing the e-invoice threshold at Rs.5 crore, transitions are planned in advance rather than discovered after a compliance breach.

Reduced Dependence on One Employee

When GST knowledge lives inside a single staff member, their resignation becomes a compliance crisis. With our firm as the standing process, your filings continue uninterrupted regardless of internal staff changes.

Books and Returns That Agree at Year End

Because turnover in your GST returns is kept aligned with your accounts through the year, income tax filing and statutory audit proceed without the GST-versus-books mismatch queries that now surface routinely through data matching.

Peace of Mind Around Due Dates

The 11th and the 20th stop being days of dread. You approve a prepared draft, we file, and the acknowledgement lands on your WhatsApp — month after month, without drama.

Fewer Errors at the Billing Counter

Your billing staff are guided on invoice fields, rates and series discipline, so mistakes are prevented where they originate — at the counter — instead of being repaired later in the returns.

Closure Without Loose Ends

When a business winds up, proper cancellation and a timely final return ensure the file is genuinely closed, so no demand or late-fee computation resurfaces against you long after the shutters came down.

Why a Specialist Matters

With ChennaiGST vs Doing It Yourself

AspectWith ChennaiGSTDIY / Unattended
Registration and amendmentsQuery-resistant applications prepared correctly the first time, with supporting documents matched to what proper officers actually verify.Repeated clarification memos and resubmissions, with weeks lost because a rent agreement or premises photograph did not meet expectations.
Time costRoughly an hour a month to send data and approve drafts; the portal work, reconciliation and follow-up are ours.Hours every month lost to portal errors, JSON files, OTP failures and reworking figures — usually on the due date itself.
Due-date trackingA maintained compliance calendar with internal cut-offs days before the 11th and the 20th; we chase you for data, not the other way around.Deadlines remembered from memory or phone alarms; one busy week and the return slips past the due date.
When a notice arrivesA professional drafts the reply in the department's format and files it within the statutory window, such as thirty days for ASMT-11.You face departmental language alone, and a missed reply deadline can convert a simple query into a demand with penalty.
Annual return preparationMonthly reconciliations roll naturally into GSTR-9, filed comfortably before 31 December with figures already agreed through the year.Twelve months of unmatched data reconstructed in December, with differences discovered too late to be corrected cleanly.
Portal credentials and dataLogins handled by a small engaged team under strict confidentiality, with credentials stored securely and never passed onward.Passwords circulating on chats with freelancers and part-timers, and no accountability for who has accessed your business data.

The same consultant covers the streets immediately around it — 2nd Main Road (about 450 m); 2nd Cross Road (about 550 m); 1st Cross Road (about 550 m); 5th Main Road (about 600 m) — so a site visit on 1st Main Road can usually be combined with other work in Adambakkam on the same trip. Portal Advisory

Invoice Management System goes live on the GST portal

GSTN Advisory — Invoice Management System, live from 14 October 2024 · 2024-10-14

GSTN launched the Invoice Management System (IMS) on the portal from 14 October 2024. Buyers can now view each invoice uploaded by suppliers in GSTR-1, IFF or GSTR-1A and mark it as accepted, rejected or pending. These actions determine what flows into GSTR-2B, with the first IMS-based GSTR-2B generated on 14 November 2024 for the October 2024 period. Records left without action are treated as deemed accepted.

Practical effect: Set up a monthly IMS review before your GSTR-2B is generated so wrong or fraudulent supplier invoices do not silently enter your ITC.

Case Law

Supreme Court holds tax on goods and tax on services are mutually exclusive in a composite contract

Imagic Creative (P) Ltd v. Commissioner of Commercial Taxes — Supreme Court, (2008) 2 SCC 614, judgment dated 09-01-2008 · 2008-01-09

An advertising agency was charged value added tax on the entire consideration although service tax had already been paid on the design element. The Supreme Court held that payments of service tax and of value added tax are mutually exclusive, so in a composite contract the value attributable to the service component cannot also be subjected to sales tax, and the two levies must attach to distinct parts of the transaction. Double taxation of the same value is impermissible.

What it means for you: For Chennai agencies, printers and works contractors, the goods and service components of a composite contract should be clearly valued in the agreement and the invoice so that only one tax attaches to each element of value.

Notification

The list of services on which the recipient must pay GST under reverse charge

Notification No. 13/2017-Central Tax (Rate) dated 28.06.2017 · 2017-06-28

This notification specifies the categories of services under section 9(3) on which the whole of the tax is payable by the recipient rather than the supplier. The original list covers goods transport agency services, legal services by an individual advocate or firm of advocates, arbitral tribunal services, sponsorship, most services supplied by the Central or State Government or a local authority, services of a director to a company, insurance agent services, recovery agent services and certain transport and copyright services. Entries have been added over the years.

What it means for you: This is the working reverse charge checklist for a Chennai business, and lorry freight, advocate fees and director remuneration are the entries that most often go unreported.

FAQs

Frequently Asked Questions

Straight answers from practising GST consultants — based on the CGST Act, current CBIC notifications and day-to-day portal experience.

Do you provide GSTR-1 & GSTR-3B monthly filing for businesses on 1st Main Road?
Yes. We serve businesses on and around 1st Main Road in Adambakkam — shops, offices, godowns and home-run businesses alike. Document pickup can be arranged at your premises, or you can send everything on WhatsApp and complete monthly returns without leaving your counter. Call +91 - 9600 606 444 and mention your location; a consultant will confirm the fee and timeline immediately.
Do you provide gst return filing for small businesses and proprietorships in Adambakkam?
Yes. A large share of our clients in Adambakkam are proprietors, small traders, shop owners, freelancers and family businesses rather than large companies. The fee of Rs.749/month and the process are the same regardless of size, and we explain the compliance position in plain language — in Tamil or English — so you understand what is being filed on your behalf and why.
Swiggy and Zomato pay the GST on my restaurant orders. How do I show these sales in my returns?
Since 1 January 2022, tax on restaurant services supplied through e-commerce operators is payable by the operator under Section 9(5), so you do not charge GST on app orders and no TCS is collected on them either. You must still report these supplies: show them in GSTR-3B Table 3.1.1(ii) as supplies on which the operator pays tax, and disclose them in GSTR-1, without paying tax on them again. Direct dine-in and takeaway billing remains taxable in your hands at 5%. Mixing up these tables is a common error we correct for restaurants in Adambakkam; call +91 - 9600 606 444 for help.
My credit notes this month exceed my sales. Can GSTR-3B show a negative figure?
Yes. Since the January 2024 tax period, the portal permits negative values in Table 3.1 of GSTR-3B where credit notes issued in a month exceed the outward supplies, a situation common in businesses with heavy sales returns. The resulting negative liability is carried forward automatically by the system and adjusted against the liability of subsequent tax periods, so you no longer need to defer reporting credit notes. Ensure the same credit notes are reported in GSTR-1, because GSTR-3B auto-populates from it and manual deviations invite the portal's variance flags. Retailers with seasonal return spikes benefit most from this facility.
Can I issue a single credit note against several invoices?
Yes. Since the amendment to Section 34 by the CGST (Amendment) Act, 2018, effective 1 February 2019, the law permits one or more credit notes to be issued against one or more tax invoices of a financial year. A distributor giving a season-end adjustment to a retailer can therefore issue one consolidated credit note covering dozens of invoices, rather than one note per bill. When reporting it in GSTR-1, the portal accepts credit notes without invoice-wise linking for this reason. Maintain a working annexed to the credit note listing the invoices covered, because in scrutiny the officer will ask you to establish the linkage and the arithmetic.
Do I have to pay GST on my Adobe, Canva or AWS subscriptions billed from abroad?
If you are GST-registered and the foreign supplier has not charged Indian GST, yes. Services received from a supplier located outside India for business purposes are an import of services, taxable in your hands under reverse charge at 18 percent. You must pay the tax in cash through GSTR-3B, raise a self-invoice, and can simultaneously claim the same amount as input tax credit if the expense is otherwise eligible, making it cash-flow neutral for most businesses. Unregistered persons do not pay reverse charge; instead, the foreign provider may charge GST under the OIDAR rules. Many Adambakkam agencies miss these entries during scrutiny.
Our institute charges one fee covering classes, study material and hostel. How is it taxed?
A single price for naturally bundled components is a composite supply, taxed at the rate of the principal supply. For a coaching institute, coaching is the principal supply, so the entire lump sum, including printed materials and boarding provided as part of the package, attracts 18 percent. Printing separate invoices for books at nil rate out of a bundled fee is a known audit red flag and is routinely rejected. If the institute genuinely sells optional printed books to anyone at a separate price, those standalone sales can take the book's own treatment. Structure the fee schedule deliberately, not after the demand arrives.
Do I have to report HSN codes in my GSTR-1?
Yes. Taxpayers with aggregate turnover up to Rs.5 crore must report a 4-digit HSN summary for B2B supplies in Table 12 of GSTR-1, while those above Rs.5 crore must report 6-digit HSN codes for all supplies. The portal now validates HSN entries against its master list, so wrong or truncated codes can block filing. Getting HSN classification right also determines your tax rate, so it is worth a one-time review of your product list. Our team in Adambakkam maintains a verified HSN master for every client.
What is the 180-day payment rule for input tax credit?
Under the second proviso to Section 16(2) read with Rule 37, if you do not pay your supplier the invoice value including tax within 180 days from the invoice date, you must reverse the proportionate ITC in GSTR-3B, along with interest at 18 percent per annum from the date of availment. The credit can be re-availed, without any time limit, once payment is actually made. Long credit periods negotiated with vendors around Adambakkam frequently breach this rule unnoticed, so your reconciliation should include an ageing of creditors mapped to ITC claimed. Call +91 - 9600 606 444 if you need this ageing built into your monthly process.
Can my company claim ITC on a car purchased for business use, and what about its insurance and repairs?
Generally no. Section 17(5)(a) blocks credit on motor vehicles for transporting persons with approved seating up to thirteen including the driver, even when used for business, unless you are in the business of further supplying such vehicles, transporting passengers, or imparting driver training. Section 17(5)(ab) extends the block to insurance, servicing and repairs of such vehicles. However, ITC is fully available on goods transport vehicles like trucks and delivery vans, and on vehicles with seating above thirteen such as staff buses. A Adambakkam trading company buying a delivery van claims full credit; the director's sedan gets none. Classify each vehicle before claiming.
I claimed some ITC wrongly last year. What interest and penalty apply if I reverse it now?
Under Section 50(3) as amended, interest at 18 percent per annum applies where wrongly availed credit has also been utilised, calculated from the date of utilisation until reversal; credit that was availed but never utilised, because your ledger balance never fell below the wrong amount, attracts no interest. Voluntary reversal is done through GSTR-3B or by payment in DRC-03, and paying before any show cause notice generally avoids or minimises penalty. If the department has already issued ASMT-10 or DRC-01, reply timelines apply, so act quickly. Call +91 - 9600 606 444 and ChennaiGST can compute the exact interest and file the DRC-03.
Which purchases commonly attract GST under reverse charge for a regular business?
Under Section 9(3), the recipient pays tax on notified supplies. The entries a typical business in Adambakkam encounters are: goods transport agency services, services of advocates and arbitral tribunals, sponsorship provided to companies and partnership firms, services of directors, security services from non-corporate providers, renting of passenger motor vehicles from non-corporate operators charging five percent, import of services, and renting of property from unregistered landlords in notified cases. Each month, scan your expense ledger for these heads, pay the tax in cash through GSTR-3B, and claim it back as ITC where eligible. Missed RCM is among the top audit findings; call +91 - 9600 606 444 for an RCM exposure review.
How do I file Form PMT-09 to move money between heads in my cash ledger?
Log in and open Services, then Ledgers, then Electronic Cash Ledger, and select File GST PMT-09 for transfer of amount. The screen shows your balance under each major and minor head. Choose the transfer-from head and amount, choose the transfer-to head, add the details to the table, preview and file with DSC or EVC. The transfer reflects in the ledger immediately and an ARN is generated for your records. There is no limit on how often PMT-09 can be filed, and no government fee applies, so it is always the first fix for a wrong-head deposit.
What are the GST rates on gold, silver and diamond jewellery?
The special rates on precious metals were retained in the GST 2.0 restructuring. Gold, silver and articles of jewellery attract 3 percent GST, rough and unworked diamonds attract 0.25 percent, and jewellery making charges billed separately attract 5 percent. When a jeweller bills a customer, the metal value and making charges can appear as separate line items with their respective rates on the same tax invoice. Old gold purchased from an unregistered customer in exchange transactions does not attract GST in the customer's hands, but valuation of the net supply must be documented carefully.
My footwear shop sells chappals at Rs.300 and shoes at Rs.4,000 on the same bill. How do I invoice this?
One invoice can comfortably carry both rates. Each pair is tested against the Rs.2,500 sale-value threshold independently, so the chappals are billed at 5% and the Rs.4,000 shoes at 18%, as separate line items under their footwear HSN codes in Chapter 64. Your GSTR-1 HSN summary will then show turnover split across the two rates. Ensure the billing software picks the rate from the item price automatically rather than from a fixed product master, because the same article sold at different price points can legitimately fall in different slabs. A quick POS configuration check prevents months of wrong-rate billing; call +91 - 9600 606 444 to arrange one.
What falls under the 18 percent standard rate of GST now?
The 18 percent slab is the standard rate for most services and for goods that are neither essentials nor demerit items. Notably, several products that earlier suffered 28 percent moved down to 18 percent from 22 September 2025: air conditioners, televisions of all sizes, dishwashers, cement, small cars and motorcycles up to 350cc, and most auto parts. Apparel and footwear priced above Rs.2,500 per piece also fall at 18 percent. Most professional, business support and repair services billed by professional firms continue at 18 percent with full input tax credit.
Why is my e-way bill generation blocked on the portal?
Under Rule 138E, the e-way bill facility is blocked when a taxpayer has not filed GSTR-3B (or CMP-08 for composition dealers) for two or more consecutive tax periods. Since an e-way bill is mandatory for moving goods worth more than Rs.50,000, blocking effectively halts dispatches. The remedy is straightforward: file the pending returns with late fee and interest, after which the facility unblocks automatically, usually the next day. Transporters and suppliers can also be affected when a counterparty GSTIN is blocked. We clear return backlogs for businesses in Adambakkam on priority; call +91 - 9600 606 444.
Which educational services are actually exempt from GST?
The exemption is confined to an educational institution as defined, meaning one providing pre-school education, education up to higher secondary school or equivalent, education as part of a curriculum for obtaining a qualification recognised by Indian law, or an approved vocational education course. Services by such institutions to their students, and specified input services to schools such as transport, catering and security, are exempt. Everything outside this boundary is taxable: private tuition, test preparation, hobby classes, skill courses without recognised certification, and training by ed-tech companies. The recognition of the qualification under Indian law is the decisive test, not the subject taught.
How much does GSTR-1 & GSTR-3B monthly filing cost in Adambakkam?
Our fee for GSTR-1 & GSTR-3B monthly filing in Adambakkam starts at Rs.749/month and is quoted in full before we begin — there are no hidden charges added later. The fee covers professional work end to end: document review, preparation, filing and follow-up until completion. Government fees or portal charges, where applicable, are separate and always shown to you upfront. For an exact quote based on your turnover and business type, call +91 - 9600 606 444 and a consultant will confirm it on the call.
How long does GSTR-1 & GSTR-3B monthly filing take in Adambakkam?
Filed before the 11th and 20th of every month. That assumes your documents are complete and there is no departmental query. We start the same day we receive your papers and tell you the realistic completion date upfront rather than an optimistic one. Where the GST portal or the officer causes delay — clarifications, physical verification or system issues — we track it daily and keep you informed on WhatsApp.
Are there any hidden charges for GSTR-1 & GSTR-3B monthly filing?
No. The fee quoted before we start is the fee you pay. Government fees, portal charges or statutory late fees, where they apply, are separate and disclosed to you in advance with the exact amount. We issue a proper GST invoice for our professional fee. If the scope of work changes — for example, an unexpected notice or additional periods — we tell you the revised fee before doing anything further.
