Trade Profile and GST Jurisdiction for Jamalia

Jamalia lies on Perambur High Road between Krishna Doss Road, Cooks Road and Perambur Barracks Road, a dense trading pocket of timber and plywood yards, leather and footwear dealers, hardware and sanitary ware shops, bakeries, biryani hotels and cloth retailers running down towards Otteri Bridge and Stephenson Road. Cash-heavy sales, unregistered supplier purchases and GSTR-2B mismatches are the recurring compliance headache. From a first registration to the annual return, the full range of Composition & CMP-08 is available to Jamalia businesses without stepping far from the shop or office — documents travel over WhatsApp, and our Chennai premises are open to anyone who prefers a face-to-face discussion. We serve Perambur and Otteri on the same footing, applying one rule everywhere: reconcile before filing, file before the due date, and keep the client informed at every stage.

GST jurisdiction for Jamalia (PIN 600012): businesses here generally fall under the CGST Chennai North Commissionerate. We regularly represent clients from Jamalia before this jurisdiction for registrations, clarifications and notice hearings, and can confirm your exact division and range from your GSTIN. State-jurisdiction cases are handled with the Tamil Nadu Commercial Taxes Department.
GST for IT and SaaS Companies in Jamalia
IT and SaaS services are taxed at 18 percent domestically, but the real complexity is qualifying overseas billing as export under Section 2(6) of the IGST Act: the recipient must be outside India, consideration must arrive in convertible foreign exchange or INR where RBI permits, and the Indian entity and foreign recipient must not be mere establishments of the same person. Marketing or support arms serving a foreign parent risk classification as intermediaries under Section 13(8), making the place of supply India and the income taxable. Supplies to SEZ units are zero-rated with proper endorsements. A specialist structures contracts and invoicing so export status survives departmental scrutiny.
You can move your Composition & CMP-08 to a new consultant in Jamalia at any time mid-year; past filings are reviewed, pending items are regularised, and ongoing fees start at Rs.499.
Why Us

Why Jamalia Businesses Choose ChennaiGST

Not a bulk-filing portal. A senior consultant knows your file, your jurisdiction and your deadlines.

Deadline Tracking Done for You

GSTR-1 by the 11th, GSTR-3B by the 20th, CMP-08 by the 18th after each quarter — we maintain a compliance calendar for every client and start chasing your data well before the due date, so late fees never enter the picture.

Clean Exits When a Business Closes

Winding up attracts its own GST obligations — the cancellation application, reversal of credit on closing stock, and the final return in GSTR-10 within three months. We close registrations properly so a business you shut in Jamalia never writes back to you as a demand years later.

Job Work Movements Tracked Through ITC-04

Goods sent to job workers must move on delivery challans, return within the statutory period, and be reported in ITC-04. We track every outward and return leg for manufacturing clients in Jamalia, so inputs sent out for processing never quietly convert into a deemed supply carrying tax and interest.

Advisory, Not Just Data Entry

We tell you when the composition scheme stops making sense, when QRMP suits your cash flow, and when a supplier's non-compliance is quietly costing you credit. Filing is the minimum; helping you make better GST decisions is the actual job.

Reverse Charge Tracked, Not Forgotten

Freight paid to transporters, advocate fees, imported services and other notified supplies attract GST under reverse charge, with self-invoicing where the supplier is unregistered. We maintain a running RCM check every period, because this is the liability self-filers most consistently miss.

E-Invoice and E-Way Bill Fluency

E-invoicing is mandatory once turnover crosses Rs.5 crore and e-way bills apply to goods movements above Rs.50,000. We set up, train and troubleshoot both systems, so your despatches from Jamalia are never held up by a compliance gap at the gate.

How It Works

Our Composition Scheme Process

Eligibility and enrolment

We verify your turnover and business type against composition conditions, and file CMP-02 to opt in from the start of the financial year where applicable.

Quarterly turnover compilation

Each quarter we collect your sales summary, apply the correct composition rate, and add any tax payable under reverse charge on specified inward supplies.

CMP-08 filing

The statement-cum-challan in Form CMP-08 is prepared, tax is paid, and the form is filed by the 18th of the month following the quarter.

Annual GSTR-4

After year end we consolidate the four quarters, reconcile with your books, and file the annual return in GSTR-4 before the 30 June due date.

Limit monitoring

We track your cumulative turnover through the year and, if the Rs.1.5 crore or Rs.50 lakh limit nears, manage a clean transition to the regular scheme.

Outcomes

What You Get

Practical outcomes our clients measure us by.

A Written Trail for Every Decision

Tax positions, rate choices and credit calls are documented as they are made, so if a question arises years later, the reasoning and evidence are on file rather than in someone's fading memory.

Goods That Move Without Detention

Correct e-way bills matched to correct invoices mean your consignments clear roadside inspections cleanly, avoiding detention proceedings whose penalties can far exceed the tax on the goods being carried.

Stronger Standing with Corporate Buyers

Large buyers check vendor GST compliance before releasing payments and renewing contracts. A clean filing record with timely GSTR-1 uploads keeps your invoices reflecting in their GSTR-2B and your payments unblocked.

A Clean GSTIN That Stays Active

Continuous filing protects you from the suspension and cancellation proceedings that hit chronic non-filers, so your registration, e-way bill access and ability to issue tax invoices are never suddenly cut off.

Growth Without Compliance Anxiety

New branches, new product lines and interstate sales all carry GST consequences. With standing professional support, you expand knowing registrations, invoicing and returns will keep pace with the business.

Faster GST Refunds

Complete RFD-01 applications with proper statements and annexures move through the system faster and attract fewer deficiency memos, which means export and inverted-duty refunds reach your bank account sooner.

Why a Specialist Matters

With ChennaiGST vs Doing It Yourself

AspectWith ChennaiGSTDIY / Unattended
Supplier defaultsSuppliers who stop uploading invoices are identified within the period and pursued before their default becomes your blocked credit.Missing supplier invoices surface only when credit is denied, by which time recovering the amount from the vendor is difficult.
Time costRoughly an hour a month to send data and approve drafts; the portal work, reconciliation and follow-up are ours.Hours every month lost to portal errors, JSON files, OTP failures and reworking figures — usually on the due date itself.
Refund claimsRFD-01 filed with complete statements and annexures, tracked from ARN to bank credit, with any deficiency memo answered promptly.Incomplete claims bounce back as deficiency memos while the refund sits unclaimed for months and working capital stays blocked.
Record keepingEvery return, challan, acknowledgement and working paper archived in an organised folder, retrievable in minutes years later.Documents scattered across email, downloads and old phones; assembling records for a bank or an audit takes days.
Risk of noticesGSTR-1, GSTR-3B and GSTR-2B reconciled before filing, removing the mismatches that trigger most scrutiny notices.Inconsistent figures across returns quietly build a mismatch history that surfaces later as ASMT-10 scrutiny or a demand notice.
When a notice arrivesA professional drafts the reply in the department's format and files it within the statutory window, such as thirty days for ASMT-11.You face departmental language alone, and a missed reply deadline can convert a simple query into a demand with penalty.

Case Law

Supreme Court bars customs recovery action during an insolvency moratorium

Sundaresh Bhatt, Liquidator of ABG Shipyard v. Central Board of Indirect Taxes and Customs — Supreme Court, (2023) 1 SCC 472, judgment dated 26-08-2022 · 2022-08-26

The Supreme Court held that once a moratorium is declared under the Insolvency and Bankruptcy Code, the customs authorities can only assess and quantify their dues; they cannot initiate recovery, sell goods or enforce any lien over the debtor's assets. The Code prevails over the Customs Act to this extent. The authorities must submit their claim to the resolution professional or liquidator like any other creditor.

How we apply it: If a Chennai company is under moratorium, indirect tax officers may quantify dues but cannot attach property or auction goods to recover them.

Portal Advisory

CBIC answers on what counts as pre-packaged and labelled

CBIC Frequently Asked Questions on GST on pre-packaged and labelled goods, dated 17 July 2022 · 2022-07-17

A day before the change took effect, the Tax Research Unit issued FAQs explaining that the expression takes its meaning from the Legal Metrology Act, 2009 and covers commodities intended for retail sale in packs of up to twenty-five kilograms or twenty-five litres that must bear statutory declarations. A single package above that limit is not covered, nor are packs supplied to an industrial or institutional consumer. Loose sale from a large pack by a retailer does not attract the levy.

What to do about it: A fifty-kilogram rice bag sold as one package stays outside the levy, but the moment it is repacked into labelled retail bags of twenty-five kilograms or less, five per cent applies.

GST Council

Group of Ministers formed on State cess for natural calamities

30th GST Council Meeting (video conference) — 28 September 2018 (PIB Release ID 1547891) · 2018-09-28

Meeting shortly after the Kerala floods, the Council discussed that State's proposal to impose a cess on SGST to fund rehabilitation and flood-related works. Because GST had removed the States' independent power to levy such a cess, the Council constituted a seven-member Group of Ministers convened by the Deputy Chief Minister of Bihar, with members from Assam, Kerala, Maharashtra, Odisha, Punjab and Uttarakhand, to examine modalities for revenue mobilisation in case of natural calamities and disasters, reporting by 31 October 2018.

What it means for you: This process produced the Kerala flood cess of 2019, the only State-specific GST cess so far, and set the template for how any similar Tamil Nadu levy would have to be approved.

FAQs

Frequently Asked Questions

Straight answers from practising GST consultants — based on the CGST Act, current CBIC notifications and day-to-day portal experience.

What is the process for composition & CMP-08?
The process runs in clear stages: Eligibility and enrolment; Quarterly turnover compilation; CMP-08 filing; Annual GSTR-4. A senior consultant reviews your file at each stage rather than passing it to a data-entry desk, and you receive a confirmation with the filed documents once it is complete. You always know which stage your work is at — we update you on WhatsApp instead of leaving you to follow up.
Are there any hidden charges for composition & CMP-08?
No. The fee quoted before we start is the fee you pay. Government fees, portal charges or statutory late fees, where they apply, are separate and disclosed to you in advance with the exact amount. We issue a proper GST invoice for our professional fee. If the scope of work changes — for example, an unexpected notice or additional periods — we tell you the revised fee before doing anything further.
What rate of tax does a composition dealer pay?
Manufacturers and traders pay 1 percent of turnover, split as 0.5 percent CGST and 0.5 percent SGST; for traders this is computed on taxable turnover of goods. Restaurants not serving alcohol pay 5 percent, split 2.5 percent and 2.5 percent. Service providers under the special scheme with turnover up to Rs.50 lakh pay 6 percent, split 3 percent and 3 percent. In every case the tax comes out of your own pocket because a composition dealer cannot collect GST from customers, so pricing must absorb it. The trade-off is minimal paperwork: quarterly CMP-08 and one annual GSTR-4.
What returns does a composition dealer have to file and by when?
Composition taxpayers have just two recurring obligations. First, Form CMP-08, a quarterly statement of self-assessed tax, due by the 18th of the month following each quarter, so 18 July for the April to June quarter, 18 October, 18 January and 18 April for the rest. Second, the annual return GSTR-4, due by 30 June following the end of the financial year. There is no monthly GSTR-1 or GSTR-3B. Delays attract late fees and 18 percent interest on unpaid tax, and prolonged non-filing can lead to cancellation. Our Jamalia office files CMP-08 for composition clients each quarter for Rs.499; call +91 - 9600 606 444.
When should I issue a bill of supply instead of a tax invoice?
A bill of supply is issued in two situations: when a registered person supplies exempt or nil-rated goods or services, and when the supplier is a composition dealer, who is barred from collecting tax. It looks similar to a tax invoice but shows no tax rate or tax amount, and a composition dealer must print the words composition taxable person, not eligible to collect tax on supplies on it. A regular taxpayer in Jamalia selling both taxable and exempt items needs both document types configured in the billing system, applied item by item based on what is being sold.
Can I voluntarily come out of the composition scheme and claim input credit again?
Yes. File Form CMP-04 to withdraw from the scheme; a voluntary withdrawal can be filed at any time and takes effect from the date you indicate. From that date you become a regular taxpayer: issue tax invoices, charge GST, and file GSTR-1 and GSTR-3B or opt for QRMP. To recover credit, file Form ITC-01 within thirty days of withdrawal, declaring input tax credit on inputs in stock, semi-finished and finished goods held on the day before the switch. Businesses in Jamalia usually opt out when their customer base shifts to registered dealers who want input credit on purchases from them.
What happens if my turnover crosses Rs.1.5 crore in the middle of the year?
Your composition option lapses from the day aggregate turnover exceeds Rs.1.5 crore, or Rs.50 lakh under the services scheme. You must file Form CMP-04, the intimation of withdrawal, within seven days of the event, start issuing tax invoices and charging GST from that day, and switch to regular returns, GSTR-1 by the 11th and GSTR-3B by the 20th. On the positive side, you can claim input tax credit on stock held on the transition date by filing Form ITC-01 within thirty days. If your Jamalia business is nearing the ceiling, plan the switch in advance; call +91 - 9600 606 444 for help.
Can service providers in Jamalia opt for the composition scheme?
Yes, through a separate scheme introduced under Notification 2/2019. Service providers, or mixed suppliers not eligible for the regular composition scheme, with aggregate turnover up to Rs.50 lakh in the preceding financial year can pay tax at 6 percent, comprising 3 percent CGST and 3 percent SGST, on their turnover. The same restrictions apply: no input tax credit, no tax collection from clients, no inter-state outward supply, and a bill of supply instead of a tax invoice. Compliance is CMP-08 quarterly by the 18th and GSTR-4 annually by 30 June. Small salons, tutors, and repair services in Jamalia commonly use this; call +91 - 9600 606 444 to check fit.
How exactly do I pay RCM in my return and claim it back as credit?
Report the taxable value and tax in Table 3.1(d) of GSTR-3B; this liability must be discharged in cash through the electronic cash ledger, because input tax credit cannot be used to pay reverse charge dues. In the same return, claim the amount as ITC in Table 4(A)(2) or 4(A)(3), so the net impact is usually nil. RCM invoices from registered suppliers like GTAs appear in GSTR-2B, but credit for unregistered-supplier RCM rests on your self-invoice, and Circular 211/5/2024 confirms the Section 16(4) deadline runs from the year of that self-invoice. Businesses in Jamalia that skip the 3.1(d) reporting but claim the credit invite automatic mismatch flags.
Can I reply to a GST notice myself, or should I hire a professional?
For simple defaults, such as a GSTR-3A non-filing notice where you only need to file the pending return, you can manage yourself. For anything involving discrepancies or demands, ASMT-10, DRC-01A, DRC-01 or audit observations, professional drafting usually pays for itself, because your first reply frames the entire case; admissions or vague explanations made now are hard to retract at the appeal stage. A practitioner also knows which circulars and precedents apply, how to structure reconciliations officers accept, and when to pay strategically through DRC-03. Weigh the tax at stake against the fee; when the demand exceeds a few thousand rupees, hire help.
Our Jamalia factory hires lorries through a transport agency. Who pays the GST?
Under the reverse charge entry, when a GTA that has not opted for forward charge provides service to specified recipients, the recipient pays the 5 percent tax. Specified recipients include factories, registered persons, body corporates, partnership firms including AOPs, co-operative societies and casual taxable persons. Your factory therefore pays 5 percent in cash through GSTR-3B, reports it in the reverse charge tables, and claims the same amount as input tax credit since freight is a business expense. Confirm from the transporter's invoice or declaration whether it has opted for forward charge, because paying RCM on an FCM invoice creates double taxation. Call +91 - 9600 606 444 if your freight entries need a review.
The GST rate on my product changed. Which rate applies to pending orders and invoices?
Section 14 of the CGST Act decides this by looking at three events: the date of supply, the date of invoice and the date of payment. Broadly, if any two of the three events fall after the rate change, the new rate applies; if two fall before, the old rate applies. So goods delivered in Jamalia before 22 September 2025 but invoiced and paid for afterwards attract the new rate, while goods delivered and invoiced earlier keep the old rate even if payment came later. Document dates carefully during any transition window, because officers test these invoices in scrutiny.
Can one document cover both taxable and exempt items sold together?
Yes, in one specific situation. Rule 46A permits a registered person supplying both taxable and exempt goods or services to an unregistered recipient to issue a single invoice-cum-bill of supply covering the entire transaction. This saves retail counters from splitting every mixed basket into two documents. The concession applies only when the buyer is unregistered; for a registered buyer, you must still issue a tax invoice for the taxable items and a separate bill of supply for the exempt items. Supermarkets and pharmacies with mixed inventories use this format daily, and billing software handles the split automatically once configured.
What happened to the old 12 percent and 28 percent GST slabs?
Both slabs were abolished with effect from 22 September 2025. Nearly all goods that were at 12 percent moved down to 5 percent, and the bulk of the 28 percent items moved to 18 percent, with only a small set of luxury and demerit goods shifted up to the special 40 percent rate. This means old rate charts, printed price lists and software masters created before September 2025 are unreliable. Before quoting or billing, confirm the current rate against the CBIC rate notifications for your exact HSN code, or call +91 - 9600 606 444 and we will verify it for your product list.
Can I reduce GST for discounts given after the sale, like turnover incentives?
Only if three conditions in Section 15(3)(b) are met: the discount was established under an agreement that existed before or at the time of supply, it can be linked to specific invoices, and the recipient reverses the input tax credit attributable to it. If all three hold, you issue a GST credit note and reduce your output tax. If any condition fails, which is common for year-end volume incentives negotiated later, the adjustment must go through a commercial credit note without any GST effect. Distributor incentive schemes run from Jamalia should be papered before the season starts, not after.
I declare income under Section 44ADA. Does that mean I am exempt from GST?
No, this is a common myth. Section 44ADA is a presumptive taxation scheme under the Income Tax Act that lets professionals declare fifty percent of gross receipts as income; it has nothing to do with GST. GST liability depends solely on aggregate turnover crossing the registration threshold and the nature of your supplies. In fact, the two departments now cross-match data, so gross receipts reported in your ITR and Form 26AS that exceed the GST turnover you declared are a known trigger for notices. Treat the two laws as parallel obligations, each with its own limits and filings.
Is GST payable under reverse charge on payments made to our company directors?
It depends on the capacity in which the director is paid. CBIC Circular 140/10/2020 settles the position: remuneration to a whole-time or executive director who is an employee, paid as salary with TDS under Section 192, is outside GST entirely as an employer-employee transaction. In contrast, sitting fees, commission and professional charges paid to independent or non-executive directors, typically suffering TDS under Section 194J, are taxable and the company pays 18 percent under reverse charge, claiming ITC. Companies in Jamalia should split their director payments ledger accordingly, issue self-invoices for the RCM portion, and keep board resolutions and TDS treatment consistent as supporting evidence.
Can one invoice contain items taxed at different GST rates?
Yes, there is no requirement to issue separate invoices per rate. A single tax invoice can carry multiple line items, each with its own HSN code, taxable value, rate and tax amount, and the totals section simply aggregates the tax rate-wise. A hardware store in Jamalia can bill cement at 18 percent and certain tools at 5 percent on one document. What matters is that each line is classified and taxed correctly, and that mixed baskets are not collapsed into one rate. Be careful with genuine composite supplies, where one principal supply drives a single rate; that is a classification question, not an invoicing one.
What documents are required for composition & CMP-08 in Jamalia?
For composition & CMP-08 you will generally need: GST portal login credentials, Quarterly sales summary or turnover figures, Purchase details including any reverse charge expenses, Previous CMP-08 copies, for continuing clients, Bank statement for turnover verification, if required. The exact list depends on your constitution — proprietorship, partnership, LLP or company — and on the specifics of your case. Send what you have on WhatsApp to +91 - 9600 606 444 and we will confirm within the same working day exactly what else is needed, so nothing is rejected later for a missing paper.
How long does composition & CMP-08 take in Jamalia?
CMP-08 by the 18th after each quarter; GSTR-4 by 30 June. That assumes your documents are complete and there is no departmental query. We start the same day we receive your papers and tell you the realistic completion date upfront rather than an optimistic one. Where the GST portal or the officer causes delay — clarifications, physical verification or system issues — we track it daily and keep you informed on WhatsApp.
How much does composition & CMP-08 cost in Jamalia?
Our fee for composition & CMP-08 in Jamalia starts at Rs.499/quarter and is quoted in full before we begin — there are no hidden charges added later. The fee covers professional work end to end: document review, preparation, filing and follow-up until completion. Government fees or portal charges, where applicable, are separate and always shown to you upfront. For an exact quote based on your turnover and business type, call +91 - 9600 606 444 and a consultant will confirm it on the call.
