Trade Profile and GST Jurisdiction for First Main Road, Egattur

Egattur sits on Rajiv Gandhi Salai near Chennai Marina Mall and the Hiranandani township off Buckingham Boulevard, while Thalambur Main Road and Natham - Egattur Road carry IT support units, retail showrooms, restaurants, gyms, builders and villa rental operators. Mall tenants billed for common area maintenance, retail chains handling e-commerce TCS and SIPCOT-adjacent contractors all need close GSTR-1 and GSTR-3B alignment. When businesses of this kind evaluate GST Notice Reply, the real question is not price alone but who answers when something goes wrong. We serve Egattur, Navalur and Thalambur on a standing commitment: responses within the same working day, senior scrutiny before every submission, and continued support if the department ever writes back on work carrying our preparation.

GST jurisdiction for Egattur (PIN 603103): businesses here generally fall under the CGST Chennai Outer Commissionerate. We regularly represent clients from Egattur before this jurisdiction for registrations, clarifications and notice hearings, and can confirm your exact division and range from your GSTIN. State-jurisdiction cases are handled with the Tamil Nadu Commercial Taxes Department.
GST for Property Owners Earning Rent in Egattur
Rental income has become a reverse charge maze. Commercial rent attracts 18 percent once your total receipts cross the Rs.20 lakh service threshold, counting rent from every property in Egattur and elsewhere together. A residential dwelling let to an individual for personal living remains exempt, but the same flat rented to a GST-registered business makes the tenant pay tax under reverse charge under Notification 05/2022. Since 10 October 2024, even commercial property rented out by an unregistered landlord to a registered tenant shifts the liability to the tenant. A specialist maps each tenancy to the correct treatment and drafts rent invoices and agreements accordingly.
GST Notice Reply in Egattur is priced from Rs.2,999 and includes document verification, reconciliation with portal data, senior review, filing and a complete acknowledgement set archived for your records.
Why Us

Why First Main Road, Egattur Businesses Choose ChennaiGST

Not a bulk-filing portal. A senior consultant knows your file, your jurisdiction and your deadlines.

Free Health Check of Your Past Filings

Every new client receives a review of their recent returns before we file anything — unclaimed credit, GSTR-1 versus GSTR-3B drift, and exposures worth correcting quietly. Businesses in Egattur often discover in this first review exactly why their previous arrangement was costing them money.

Zero Tolerance for Late Fees and Interest

GSTR-3B late fees run at Rs.50 per day and interest at 18 percent per annum on unpaid tax. Our internal cut-offs sit days ahead of statutory due dates precisely so that our clients never hand the department a rupee they did not owe.

Composition Scheme Compliance Without Slips

Composition dealers have their own rulebook — CMP-08 every quarter, GSTR-4 annually by 30 June, bills of supply instead of tax invoices, and a turnover ceiling that must be watched. We handle each of these correctly so the scheme's simplicity never turns into a violation.

Job Work Movements Tracked Through ITC-04

Goods sent to job workers must move on delivery challans, return within the statutory period, and be reported in ITC-04. We track every outward and return leg for manufacturing clients in Egattur, so inputs sent out for processing never quietly convert into a deemed supply carrying tax and interest.

Fast, Clean Registrations and Amendments

New GSTIN applications, core field amendments through REG-14, additional places of business — we prepare complete, query-resistant applications the first time. Clean paperwork is the difference between smooth approval and weeks lost answering clarification memos from the department.

E-Commerce Seller Reconciliation, Including TCS

Sellers on Amazon, Flipkart and other marketplaces face a three-way match between marketplace reports, GSTR-1 and the TCS the operator deposits against your GSTIN. We reconcile all three every period and accept the TCS credit, so sellers in Egattur never leave marketplace deductions unclaimed.

How It Works

Our Notice Reply Process

Notice study

We read the notice line by line, identify the section invoked, the periods covered, the exact information sought and the deadline for response.

Data reconciliation

The figures alleged in the notice are reconciled against your filed returns, GSTR-2B and books, so the reply is grounded in verifiable numbers rather than assertions.

Reply drafting

We draft a professional, point-wise reply addressing every allegation, attaching reconciliations, invoices and legal support, and share the draft with you for approval.

Filing and payment

The approved reply is filed on the portal within the deadline. Where a small genuine liability exists, we advise payment through DRC-03 to limit interest and penalty.

Closure tracking

We monitor the portal for the officer's response, attend to any further queries or hearing dates, and pursue the matter until a closure or order is received.

Outcomes

What You Get

Practical outcomes our clients measure us by.

Fewer Errors at the Billing Counter

Your billing staff are guided on invoice fields, rates and series discipline, so mistakes are prevented where they originate — at the counter — instead of being repaired later in the returns.

Supplier Risk Caught Early

We spot suppliers who stop uploading invoices or filing returns and alert you before their default becomes your blocked credit, letting you recover amounts or switch vendors while the exposure is still small.

Audit-Ready Records at All Times

Filed returns, challans, reconciliations and working papers are archived in order from day one. If an audit or departmental verification comes, your file is ready the same week, not assembled in a panic.

Time Back for Your Actual Business

The hours you or your accountant spent wrestling with the portal, JSON errors and reconciliations every month return to sales, operations and customers, while trained hands manage the compliance in the background.

Lower Total Cost of Compliance

A fixed professional fee is almost always cheaper than the combination of late fees, interest, lost credit and staff hours that informal, last-minute compliance quietly accumulates over a year.

Due-Diligence Ready for Investors and Buyers

Funding rounds, partnerships and business sales all begin with a compliance check. A clean, documented GST history lets you clear that scrutiny quickly instead of watching a deal stall over old filing gaps.

Why a Specialist Matters

With ChennaiGST vs Doing It Yourself

AspectWith ChennaiGSTDIY / Unattended
Portal credentials and dataLogins handled by a small engaged team under strict confidentiality, with credentials stored securely and never passed onward.Passwords circulating on chats with freelancers and part-timers, and no accountability for who has accessed your business data.
Annual return preparationMonthly reconciliations roll naturally into GSTR-9, filed comfortably before 31 December with figures already agreed through the year.Twelve months of unmatched data reconstructed in December, with differences discovered too late to be corrected cleanly.
Registration and amendmentsQuery-resistant applications prepared correctly the first time, with supporting documents matched to what proper officers actually verify.Repeated clarification memos and resubmissions, with weeks lost because a rent agreement or premises photograph did not meet expectations.
Supplier defaultsSuppliers who stop uploading invoices are identified within the period and pursued before their default becomes your blocked credit.Missing supplier invoices surface only when credit is denied, by which time recovering the amount from the vendor is difficult.
Late fees and interestFilings go in ahead of statutory dates, so the Rs.50-per-day late fee and 18 percent interest never arise.Late fees accumulate silently every delayed day, and interest on unpaid tax runs at 18 percent per annum.
Record keepingEvery return, challan, acknowledgement and working paper archived in an organised folder, retrievable in minutes years later.Documents scattered across email, downloads and old phones; assembling records for a bank or an audit takes days.

The same consultant covers the streets immediately around it — SIPCOT - Thalambur Road (about 600 m); Buckingham Boulevard (about 1.0 km); Street Number 1 (about 1.1 km); Natham - Egattur Road (about 1.7 km) — so a site visit on First Main Road can usually be combined with other work in Egattur on the same trip. Compliance Watch

GST Developments Worth Knowing — relevant to Egattur businesses

A working knowledge of recent instruments and judgments is what separates a defensible filing from a risky one.

GST Council

Centre-State division of taxpayers settled at 90:10 below Rs 1.5 crore

9th GST Council Meeting, New Delhi — 16 January 2017 (Signed Minutes, Agenda Item 3) · 2017-01-16

The dual-control deadlock that had stalled several earlier meetings was broken. The Council agreed that taxpayers would be divided between Central and State tax administrations for all administrative purposes: of taxpayers with turnover below Rs 1.5 crore, 90 per cent would go to the State administration and 10 per cent to the Centre, while taxpayers above Rs 1.5 crore would be split equally. Division was to be by computerised stratified random sampling at the State level, with both administrations retaining intelligence-based enforcement powers over the whole value chain. West Bengal recorded its dissent.

What to do about it: This is why a Chennai taxpayer is assigned either to the Tamil Nadu Commercial Taxes Department or to CGST Chennai, and why notices come from only one of them for routine matters.

AAR Ruling

Canteen contractor serving food in office premises taxable at 5 percent

Goodwill Industrial Canteen - AAR Tamil Nadu, Order No. TN/09/AAR/2018, dated 30 August 2018 · 2018-08-30

The applicant prepared food and served it in the canteens of client companies at their premises. It sought the rate applicable to this arrangement. The Authority held that the supply of food and beverages on the premises of an industrial undertaking was taxable at 18 percent up to 26 July 2018 and at 5 percent from 27 July 2018, when the restaurant service entry was amended to cover canteens at offices and factories, the concessional rate being available without input tax credit.

What to do about it: Chennai canteen contractors should bill factory and office canteens at 5 percent and forgo input tax credit on their purchases.

Case Law

Supreme Court upholds GST arrest powers but mandates strict safeguards for taxpayers

Radhika Agarwal v. Union of India — Supreme Court, 2025 · 2025-02-27

A three-judge bench upheld the constitutional validity of arrest provisions under the GST and Customs Acts while imposing safeguards: arrests require verifiable material and 'reasons to believe' recorded in writing, grounds of arrest must be furnished to the person, criminal procedure code protections apply, anticipatory bail is maintainable even before FIR, and departmental circulars on arrest thresholds bind officers. The Court warned against arrests used to coerce tax payments and permitted refunds of amounts extracted under coercion.

Why this matters: Arrest in GST investigations is possible only for serious, documented offences — businesses facing coercive summons or forced payments during searches have strong grounds to resist and seek refunds.

Already Holding the Notice? Read It in About a Minute

Upload the PDF to our free GST Notice Analyser. It identifies which of 34 notice types you have, pulls out the DIN, GSTIN and tax period, reads the reply date printed on the notice and tells you plainly whether that date has already passed — along with the documents and reconciliations you will need. No payment, no account. If the notice does not state a date we can read, it says so rather than guessing one for you.

Analyse my notice — free WhatsApp it to a consultant

The analyser reports what your notice says and the statutory position for that form. It is not a substitute for a consultant reading your actual records, and a reply should be reviewed before you file it.

FAQs

Frequently Asked Questions

Straight answers from practising GST consultants — based on the CGST Act, current CBIC notifications and day-to-day portal experience.

What is the process for GST notice reply?
The process runs in clear stages: Notice study; Data reconciliation; Reply drafting; Filing and payment. A senior consultant reviews your file at each stage rather than passing it to a data-entry desk, and you receive a confirmation with the filed documents once it is complete. You always know which stage your work is at — we update you on WhatsApp instead of leaving you to follow up.
Can I get GST notice reply done online without visiting the office?
Yes, the entire process can be handled online. You share scanned documents on WhatsApp or email, we prepare and file everything on the GST portal, and you receive the acknowledgement and filed copies digitally. Businesses in Egattur regularly complete notice reply with us without a single office visit. If a physical verification or personal hearing is required by the department, we guide you through it.
I have been charging the wrong GST rate on my invoices. How do I fix it?
The correction depends on the direction of the error. If you charged a higher rate than applicable, the excess tax collected must still be paid to the government under Section 76, or you can issue credit notes to customers within the permitted time and adjust the tax. If you charged a lower rate, the shortfall is your liability: pay the differential tax with interest at 18 percent per annum through your returns or Form DRC-03, and issue debit notes to registered buyers so they can take the additional credit. A rate review after the September 2025 changes is worth doing for every Egattur business; call +91 - 9600 606 444 for one.
The GST department has issued me a summons under Section 70. Is it serious?
Yes, a summons should never be ignored. Under Section 70 the officer has the powers of a civil court, and the inquiry is a judicial proceeding. You must appear on the given date and time with the documents listed, and your statement will be recorded. Non-appearance can invite penalty and, in extreme cases, prosecution. Before attending, reconstruct the facts, reconcile your returns and carry organised records of the transactions under inquiry. Never guess answers during a statement; ask for time to verify records instead. ChennaiGST prepares clients thoroughly before summons appearances; call +91 - 9600 606 444 for assistance.
What imprisonment terms does GST law prescribe, and which offences are non-bailable?
Section 132 links punishment to the amount involved: imprisonment up to five years with fine where the tax evaded or credit misused exceeds Rs.5 crore, up to three years where it exceeds Rs.2 crore, and up to one year for the Rs.1 crore to Rs.2 crore band, which after the Finance Act 2023 changes survives only for the offence of issuing invoices without supply. A repeat conviction can attract up to five years regardless of amount. Offences involving supply without invoice, invoices without supply, credit from such invoices, and collected-but-not-deposited tax are cognizable and non-bailable when the amount exceeds Rs.5 crore; everything else is non-cognizable and bailable. Courts take cognizance only with the Commissioner's previous sanction.
I received a GSTR-3A notice for not filing my GST returns. What should I do?
GSTR-3A is a system-generated default notice issued under Section 46 when you fail to file a return such as GSTR-3B. You must file the pending return within fifteen days of the notice, along with the tax due, interest at 18 percent per annum and late fee of Rs.50 per day (Rs.20 per day for nil returns, both capped with reference to turnover). Once the return is filed within this window, no further action follows. If you have stopped business, apply for cancellation instead of leaving returns pending, because notices will keep coming every month.
My GST registration was rejected in REG-05 after a clarification notice. Can I apply again?
Yes. A rejection order in Form REG-05 does not bar you from applying afresh. You can file a new registration application after curing the defects the officer pointed out, such as an incomplete rental agreement, mismatched address proof or missing authorisation letter. Alternatively, if you believe the rejection was wrong, you can challenge the order by filing an appeal in Form APL-01 within three months. For most small businesses a corrected fresh application is faster than an appeal. ChennaiGST reviews the rejection reasons first and then recommends the quicker route for your case.
Is everyone facing GST prosecution eligible to apply for compounding?
No. The statute excludes several categories. A person who has already been allowed to compound once in respect of the specified serious offences cannot compound again. Persons accused of issuing invoices without any supply of goods or services, the classic fake billing offence, were excluded from compounding altogether by the Finance Act 2023, and anyone convicted by a court under the GST law is also barred. Notably, the same 2023 amendments removed the earlier bar on compounding where the conduct was also an offence under another law, so that ground no longer disqualifies an applicant. Eligibility should be assessed before paying the underlying dues, since payment is a precondition but not a guarantee of compounding.
Can the penalty in a Section 74 fraud case be reduced by paying early?
Yes, Section 74 has a built-in incentive to settle early. If you pay the tax and interest before the show cause notice is issued, the penalty is 15 percent of the tax. If you pay within thirty days of the notice, penalty is 25 percent and the proceedings conclude. Even after the order, paying within thirty days limits penalty to 50 percent instead of 100 percent. Payments are made in DRC-03 with the correct cause selected. Whether to settle or contest depends on the strength of the fraud allegation, so have the notice evaluated professionally before choosing; call +91 - 9600 606 444 for an assessment.
What is the difference between a Section 73 and a Section 74 notice?
Section 73 covers short payment of tax or wrong ITC without fraud, while Section 74 applies where the department alleges fraud, wilful misstatement or suppression of facts to evade tax. The stakes differ sharply. Under Section 73 the order must be passed within three years from the annual return due date and the penalty is 10 percent of the tax or Rs.10,000, whichever is higher, with no penalty if you pay before the notice. Under Section 74 the limit is five years and penalty can equal 100 percent of the tax. Contesting a wrong invocation of Section 74 is often the first line of defence.
How many days do I get to reply to an ASMT-10 notice?
The reply in Form ASMT-11 must be filed within thirty days of being informed of the discrepancies, or within such further time as the officer permits. If you need more time to gather reconciliations, write to the officer seeking an extension before the deadline instead of staying silent. The thirty days pass quickly because a proper reply needs invoice-level matching of GSTR-1, GSTR-3B, GSTR-2B and your books, so start compiling data the day the notice arrives. ChennaiGST typically completes the reconciliation and files the ASMT-11 well within the window for Egattur clients; call +91 - 9600 606 444 if your deadline is close.
What does a GST consultant in Egattur typically charge for refund and compliance work?
Fees vary with complexity. Simple filings such as an LUT or an excess cash ledger refund are usually fixed-fee assignments, while export and inverted duty refunds involve invoice statements, formula workings and departmental follow-up, so they may be priced as a fixed fee or a small percentage of the refund secured. Monthly reconciliation and return packages are subscription-based. ChennaiGST publishes transparent pricing starting at Rs.2,999 with no percentage cut on straightforward claims, and you pay only after the scope is agreed in writing. Call +91 - 9600 606 444 for a quote specific to your turnover and refund type.
What GST rate applies to cars and two-wheelers now?
Small cars, meaning petrol cars up to 1200cc and diesel cars up to 1500cc with length not exceeding 4 metres, attract 18 percent GST, down sharply from the earlier 28 percent plus cess. Larger cars, SUVs above these specifications, attract the 40 percent rate, but with the compensation cess gone, the overall burden on most of them is still lower than before. Motorcycles up to 350cc are at 18 percent, while those above 350cc attract 40 percent. Electric vehicles continue at a concessional 5 percent. Dealers must also apply these rates to demo vehicle sales.
What GST do hotels charge on room tariffs after the 2025 rate changes?
From 22 September 2025, hotel accommodation with a value of supply up to Rs.7,500 per unit per day attracts 5 percent GST without input tax credit, and accommodation above Rs.7,500 attracts 18 percent with input tax credit. The earlier 12 percent slab for mid-range rooms was abolished in the rate rationalisation. Tax applies on the actual transaction value charged, so a discounted rate below Rs.7,500 falls in the 5 percent bracket even if the printed tariff is higher. Hotels should reconfigure billing software slab-wise and watch the ITC restriction on the 5 percent category, which changes costing materially.
I deposited money under the wrong head in my GST cash ledger. Why can the amount not be used?
The cash ledger is divided into major heads, IGST, CGST, SGST and cess, and minor heads, tax, interest, penalty, fee and others. An amount deposited under one combination, say CGST-penalty, cannot be directly used to pay under another, say IGST-tax, which is why your balance appears unusable despite money lying in the ledger. The remedy is Form PMT-09, which transfers the amount to the correct head instantly without any officer approval. Many Egattur taxpayers wrongly deposit a fresh challan in this situation; a two-minute PMT-09 filing saves that duplication. Call +91 - 9600 606 444 if your ledger looks stuck.
What is the GST rate for salons, gyms and yoga centres?
From 22 September 2025, beauty and physical well-being services, covering salons, barbers, beauty parlours, gyms, fitness centres and yoga institutes, attract 5 percent GST without input tax credit, reduced from the earlier 18 percent. The condition attached to the concessional rate is important: because credit is barred, the GST paid on your rent, equipment, cosmetics and consumables becomes part of your cost base. Service businesses in Egattur moving to the 5 percent rate should reprice services keeping this embedded tax in mind, and must not continue charging 18 percent, since excess tax collected has to be deposited with the government.
What is the electronic liability register on the GST portal and why should I check it?
The electronic liability register, maintained in Form PMT-01, records every liability raised against your GSTIN: self-assessed tax from returns in Part I, and demands from assessments, adjudication orders and DRC-07 summaries in Part II. Payments and pre-deposits are set off against these entries. You can view it under Services, then Ledgers. Checking Part II periodically matters because demand entries you never noticed can trigger recovery, interest accumulation and refund adjustments. During any refund claim, the officer will offset outstanding register balances, so a clean register speeds up your money. We review all three ledgers in every Egattur health check.
My shop's landlord in Egattur is not GST registered. Do I pay GST on the rent myself?
Yes, if you are registered. With effect from 10 October 2024, renting of any immovable property other than a residential dwelling by an unregistered person to a registered person was notified under reverse charge, so a registered tenant must pay 18 percent on the rent in cash through GSTR-3B and can claim ITC subject to the usual conditions. Composition taxpayers were subsequently excluded from this entry with effect from 16 January 2025. You must also raise a monthly self-invoice since the landlord is unregistered. Many shop and godown tenants in Egattur remain unaware of this recent entry; call +91 - 9600 606 444 to regularise past months.
Do you provide gst notice reply for small businesses and proprietorships in Egattur?
Yes. A large share of our clients in Egattur are proprietors, small traders, shop owners, freelancers and family businesses rather than large companies. The fee of Rs.2,999 and the process are the same regardless of size, and we explain the compliance position in plain language — in Tamil or English — so you understand what is being filed on your behalf and why.
Which GST office handles Egattur businesses?
Businesses in Egattur (PIN 603103) generally fall under the CGST Chennai Outer Commissionerate, with state-jurisdiction cases handled by the Tamil Nadu Commercial Taxes Department. Your exact division and range can be confirmed from your GSTIN on the GST portal. We regularly appear before this jurisdiction for registrations, clarifications and hearings, so we know the local practice and documentation preferences.
Are there any hidden charges for GST notice reply?
No. The fee quoted before we start is the fee you pay. Government fees, portal charges or statutory late fees, where they apply, are separate and disclosed to you in advance with the exact amount. We issue a proper GST invoice for our professional fee. If the scope of work changes — for example, an unexpected notice or additional periods — we tell you the revised fee before doing anything further.
