Trade Profile and GST Jurisdiction for ICF Colony

Every locality in Chennai has its own commercial rhythm, and ICF Colony is no exception. ICF Colony grew around the Integral Coach Factory, and its economy stays railway facing: precision machine shops, sheet metal fabricators, electrical and painting contractors, uniform tailors and canteen contractors supplying the Shell and Furnishing divisions through Constable Road and Portious Road. Konnur High Road and New Avadi Road add provision stores and hardware, while Welcome Colony and the Officers Colony lanes house staff quarters and rented shops. Vendors here contend with Section 51 TDS deductions, works contract classification and GSTR-2B mismatches on railway purchase orders. Our practice has shaped its Revocation REG-21 work around exactly these realities, serving clients in ICF Colony as well as Villivakkam and Ayanavaram. Registrations, returns, refunds and notice replies are handled by one accountable team, with fees fixed in writing before work begins and every filing reconciled against portal data before it is submitted.

GST jurisdiction for ICF Colony (PIN 600038): businesses here generally fall under the CGST Chennai North Commissionerate. We regularly represent clients from ICF Colony before this jurisdiction for registrations, clarifications and notice hearings, and can confirm your exact division and range from your GSTIN. State-jurisdiction cases are handled with the Tamil Nadu Commercial Taxes Department.
GST for Restaurants and Cloud Kitchens in ICF Colony
Restaurant service is taxed at 5 percent without input tax credit, so GST paid on rent, kitchen equipment and packaging is a cost your menu pricing must absorb. Orders routed through Swiggy or Zomato fall under Section 9(5), where the platform itself pays the tax, yet you must still disclose those supplies separately in GSTR-1, keeping direct billing and aggregator billing distinct. A cloud kitchen running several brands from one ICF Colony address needs one registration with disciplined brand-wise invoicing, not separate GSTINs. A specialist splits the two order streams correctly every month and prevents double taxation of aggregator sales. Call +91 - 9600 606 444 to review your setup.
Yes, professional Revocation REG-21 is available in ICF Colony starting at Rs.2,999. The process is handled end to end — documents over WhatsApp, senior-reviewed preparation, portal filing and same-day acknowledgement sharing.
Why Us

Why ICF Colony Businesses Choose ChennaiGST

Not a bulk-filing portal. A senior consultant knows your file, your jurisdiction and your deadlines.

✓

Fast, Clean Registrations and Amendments

New GSTIN applications, core field amendments through REG-14, additional places of business — we prepare complete, query-resistant applications the first time. Clean paperwork is the difference between smooth approval and weeks lost answering clarification memos from the department.

✓

Free Health Check of Your Past Filings

Every new client receives a review of their recent returns before we file anything — unclaimed credit, GSTR-1 versus GSTR-3B drift, and exposures worth correcting quietly. Businesses in ICF Colony often discover in this first review exactly why their previous arrangement was costing them money.

✓

Complete Documentation, Properly Archived

Every acknowledgement, challan, computation sheet and filed return is saved and shared with you in an organised folder. When a bank, buyer or GST officer asks for a document from two years ago, it reaches you the same day without any scrambling.

✓

Advisory, Not Just Data Entry

We tell you when the composition scheme stops making sense, when QRMP suits your cash flow, and when a supplier's non-compliance is quietly costing you credit. Filing is the minimum; helping you make better GST decisions is the actual job.

✓

Cancelled GSTIN? We Handle Revocation Too

A registration cancelled for non-filing is not the end of the road. We bring the pending returns up to date, clear the dues and file the revocation application in REG-21 within the permitted window, restoring suspended and cancelled GSTINs to active status.

✓

Strict Data Confidentiality

Your sales figures, supplier lists and login credentials are handled only by our engaged team, stored securely and never shared with any third party. Many of our clients in ICF Colony compete with each other; complete confidentiality is a condition of our work.

How It Works

Our Revocation Process

Cancellation review

We study the cancellation order, confirm the ninety-day limitation position, and list every return and payment that must be completed before revocation can be filed.

Backlog filing

All pending returns are prepared and filed period by period, with late fees and interest at 18% per annum computed and paid through the correct heads.

REG-21 application

We draft the revocation application with an honest explanation for the default, evidence of the cured compliance, and an undertaking of timely filing, then submit it.

Query and hearing response

If the officer issues REG-23 proposing rejection, we file a reasoned reply in REG-24 within the permitted time and attend any hearing as authorised.

Reactivation and safeguards

On receipt of the revocation order in REG-22 we verify the GSTIN shows active, file any returns due for the interim period, and set up compliance reminders.

Outcomes

What You Get

Practical outcomes our clients measure us by.

★

Correct Tax the First Time

Rates, reverse charge, place of supply and blocked credits are applied correctly at the preparation stage, so you neither overpay tax you do not owe nor underpay and invite demands with penalty later.

★

Reduced Dependence on One Employee

When GST knowledge lives inside a single staff member, their resignation becomes a compliance crisis. With our firm as the standing process, your filings continue uninterrupted regardless of internal staff changes.

★

Advances Treated Correctly

Advances received for services attract GST on receipt while advances for goods generally do not; applying this distinction correctly means you neither prepay tax unnecessarily nor omit a liability that surfaces later with interest.

★

Confidence During Officer Interactions

When a query or verification comes, you respond through a professional who deals with the department regularly, in the department's own language and format, instead of facing an officer's letter alone.

★

Growth Without Compliance Anxiety

New branches, new product lines and interstate sales all carry GST consequences. With standing professional support, you expand knowing registrations, invoicing and returns will keep pace with the business.

★

Stronger Standing with Corporate Buyers

Large buyers check vendor GST compliance before releasing payments and renewing contracts. A clean filing record with timely GSTR-1 uploads keeps your invoices reflecting in their GSTR-2B and your payments unblocked.

Why a Specialist Matters

With ChennaiGST vs Doing It Yourself

AspectWith ChennaiGSTDIY / Unattended
Annual return preparationMonthly reconciliations roll naturally into GSTR-9, filed comfortably before 31 December with figures already agreed through the year.Twelve months of unmatched data reconstructed in December, with differences discovered too late to be corrected cleanly.
Late fees and interestFilings go in ahead of statutory dates, so the Rs.50-per-day late fee and 18 percent interest never arise.Late fees accumulate silently every delayed day, and interest on unpaid tax runs at 18 percent per annum.
Refund claimsRFD-01 filed with complete statements and annexures, tracked from ARN to bank credit, with any deficiency memo answered promptly.Incomplete claims bounce back as deficiency memos while the refund sits unclaimed for months and working capital stays blocked.
Input tax creditPurchase register matched against GSTR-2B each period, with defaulting suppliers chased so eligible credit is actually captured.Credit claimed from books alone; mismatches with GSTR-2B mean lost credit or excess claims that invite departmental queries.
When a notice arrivesA professional drafts the reply in the department's format and files it within the statutory window, such as thirty days for ASMT-11.You face departmental language alone, and a missed reply deadline can convert a simple query into a demand with penalty.
Record keepingEvery return, challan, acknowledgement and working paper archived in an organised folder, retrievable in minutes years later.Documents scattered across email, downloads and old phones; assembling records for a bank or an audit takes days.

AAR Ruling

Ladies hostel run from rented premises, with food, held taxable

Nithiyashree Ladies Hostel - AAR Tamil Nadu, Advance Ruling No. 77/AAR/2023, dated 4 September 2023 · 2023-09-04

The applicant ran a ladies hostel in premises it had itself taken on rent and supplied accommodation together with food and related services. It sought exemption on the footing that this was renting of residential accommodation. The Authority held the supply classifiable under heading 9963 and taxable at 9 percent central tax and 9 percent State tax, treating hostel accommodation with attached services as a taxable service and not as renting of a residential dwelling for use as a residence.

Practical effect: Chennai hostel and paying guest operators should not assume exemption; the outcome turns on the exact facts and on later High Court rulings.

Notification

Late fee on old GSTR-3B returns capped at Rs 500 per return

Notification No. 52/2020-Central Tax · 2020-06-24

For the tax periods July 2017 to January 2020 the late fee on GSTR-3B was capped at Rs 500 per return, being Rs 250 each under the central and State laws, and was waived completely where the return was a nil return. The concession applied only if the pending return was furnished between 1 July 2020 and 30 September 2020. The same notification also continued conditional waivers for the February to July 2020 returns.

How we apply it: This was the first true GST amnesty and it let Chennai businesses clear more than two years of backlog for a nominal fee, setting the template for the later 2021 scheme.

Circular

Reopened window to file or revise TRAN-1 and TRAN-2

Circular No. 180/12/2022-GST · 2022-09-09

Following the Supreme Court directions in Union of India versus Filco Trade Centre, the Board issued guidelines allowing every aggrieved taxpayer to file or revise FORM GST TRAN-1 and TRAN-2 on the common portal during a special window from 1 October 2022 to 30 November 2022. The circular set out the declaration to be filed, the requirement to submit a self-certified copy to the jurisdictional officer, and the verification timelines that follow the filing.

What to do about it: Transitional credit disputes from 2017 that reached the courts were routed through this one-time window, and any pending verification of a Chennai taxpayer's TRAN filing is governed by these guidelines.

FAQs

Frequently Asked Questions

Straight answers from practising GST consultants — based on the CGST Act, current CBIC notifications and day-to-day portal experience.

How long does revocation REG-21 take in ICF Colony?
5-15 working days after pending compliance is cleared. That assumes your documents are complete and there is no departmental query. We start the same day we receive your papers and tell you the realistic completion date upfront rather than an optimistic one. Where the GST portal or the officer causes delay — clarifications, physical verification or system issues — we track it daily and keep you informed on WhatsApp.
Can I get revocation REG-21 done online without visiting the office?
Yes, the entire process can be handled online. You share scanned documents on WhatsApp or email, we prepare and file everything on the GST portal, and you receive the acknowledgement and filed copies digitally. Businesses in ICF Colony regularly complete revocation with us without a single office visit. If a physical verification or personal hearing is required by the department, we guide you through it.
My GST registration was cancelled by the officer. How do I get it restored?
If the registration was cancelled suo motu by the officer, you can apply for revocation in Form REG-21 on the GST portal within ninety days of the service of the cancellation order. Before applying, you must clear the cause of cancellation: file all pending returns and pay the tax, interest and late fees due up to the cancellation date. The officer may restore the registration by an order in REG-22, or issue a notice in REG-23, to which you reply in REG-24 within seven working days. Once revoked, the GSTIN becomes active again with the same number. Our ICF Colony office handles revocations end to end; call +91 - 9600 606 444.
My shop in ICF Colony had GST cancelled because I stopped filing returns during a slow period. What now?
This is the most common revocation scenario we see in ICF Colony. The sequence is: download the cancellation order and note its date, since your ninety-day REG-21 window runs from service of that order; compute and file every pending GSTR-1 and GSTR-3B up to the cancellation date; pay the tax with 18 percent interest and the late fees; then file REG-21 with a clear explanation of the lapse and proof of regularisation. Until revocation is granted you cannot issue tax invoices or generate e-way bills, so move quickly. Call +91 - 9600 606 444 with your GSTIN and we will assess the backlog the same day.
How long does GST revocation take after filing REG-21?
Once REG-21 is filed with all returns regularised, the officer examines the application and, if satisfied, passes a revocation order in Form REG-22 within thirty days of the application. If the officer has doubts, a notice in Form REG-23 is issued; you reply in Form REG-24 within seven working days, and the officer then decides within thirty days of your reply. In practice, clean applications where every pending return is filed and dues are paid before submission move fastest. After revocation, file any returns for the period between cancellation and revocation as required to bring the GSTIN fully current.
Do I need to file all old returns before applying for revocation?
Yes, this is a strict precondition. Where registration was cancelled for non-filing of returns, the revocation application in REG-21 cannot succeed unless all returns due up to the effective date of cancellation are filed, with tax, interest and late fees paid in full. The GSTR-3B late fee is Rs.50 per day, or Rs.20 per day for nil returns, capped with reference to turnover, and interest runs at 18 percent per annum on unpaid tax, so a long gap adds up. We first compute the exact clearance amount for your ICF Colony business, file the backlog, and then submit REG-21 so it is approved in one pass.
The 90-day window for revocation is over. Is my GST number gone forever?
Not necessarily, but your options narrow. The ninety-day period for filing REG-21 runs from service of the cancellation order, and an extension beyond it can be allowed by the Commissioner on sufficient cause being shown. Separately, you can challenge the cancellation order itself by filing an appeal in Form APL-01 before the appellate authority within three months of the order. If neither route works, the practical fallback is applying for a fresh registration, though the officer will scrutinise it closely given the cancelled history and pending dues must still be cleared. Speak to us at +91 - 9600 606 444 before choosing the route.
Is there a late fee for filing GSTR-1 after the 11th?
Yes. Late fee for GSTR-1 is Rs.50 per day of delay, and Rs.20 per day where there are no outward supplies, subject to caps linked to your turnover. Although the portal historically collected GSTR-1 late fees through the next GSTR-3B, the liability arises the moment the due date passes. Delayed GSTR-1 also hurts your customers, because your invoices miss their GSTR-2B and their input tax credit gets deferred, which can strain business relationships. Filing by the 11th every month avoids both the cost and the friction.
Can a person who never filed the returns still be penalised in a fake invoice case?
Yes. Section 122(1A) targets the person at whose instance fake transactions are conducted and who retains the benefit, even if the invoices were issued through some other entity. Where the offence involves supplying without an invoice, issuing invoices without supply, or availing or passing on credit from such invoices, the beneficiary faces a penalty equal to the tax evaded or the credit availed or passed on. This is how masterminds behind billing rackets are penalised alongside the front companies. If your GSTIN in ICF Colony has been misused by a third party, respond to any such notice with evidence immediately; call +91 - 9600 606 444.
What happens if I never file the final return after cancelling my GST?
The department does not forget an unfiled GSTR-10. A late fee accrues from the due date, and the officer can issue a notice giving you fifteen days to file; if you still do not comply, an assessment order can be passed determining the tax, interest and penalty payable on your closing stock based on available information. Old cancelled registrations with pending GSTR-10 also surface when proprietors apply for new registrations or loans. If your cancelled GSTIN from a past ICF Colony business still shows GSTR-10 pending, it is cheaper to regularise it now than after a notice arrives. Call +91 - 9600 606 444.
What are the current GST rate slabs after the GST 2.0 changes?
From 22 September 2025, following the 56th GST Council meeting, India moved to a simplified two-slab structure: a merit rate of 5 percent and a standard rate of 18 percent. The earlier 12 percent and 28 percent slabs were abolished. A special 40 percent rate applies to a short list of luxury and demerit goods, while the concessional rates of 3 percent on gold and silver and 0.25 percent on rough diamonds continue. Businesses in ICF Colony should re-verify the rate on every product they sell, because hundreds of items changed slabs on that date.
Where is the place of supply for services connected to a building or land?
Services directly relating to immovable property, including those of architects, interior decorators, engineers, surveyors, construction and works contract services, renting, and accommodation in hotels, are supplied where the property is located, under Section 12(3). The recipient's location and registration are irrelevant. So a ICF Colony architect designing a factory in Coimbatore charges CGST plus SGST of Tamil Nadu, but for a project in Kochi the place of supply is Kerala and IGST applies. For hotels, the state where the hotel stands is always the place of supply, which is why accommodation is invariably billed with that state's local taxes regardless of where the guest's business is registered.
What is the difference between a GST credit note and a commercial credit note?
A GST credit note is issued under Section 34, is reported in GSTR-1, and reduces your output tax, with the buyer reversing equivalent input credit. A commercial or financial credit note adjusts only the money owed between the parties; it carries no GST, is not reported in returns, and leaves everyone's tax position untouched. Businesses use commercial credit notes when the 30 November deadline has passed, or for post-supply discounts that do not satisfy the statutory conditions for a tax adjustment. Choosing the wrong instrument is a frequent audit finding, so decide the type before the note is issued.
I deposited money under the wrong head in my GST cash ledger. Why can the amount not be used?
The cash ledger is divided into major heads, IGST, CGST, SGST and cess, and minor heads, tax, interest, penalty, fee and others. An amount deposited under one combination, say CGST-penalty, cannot be directly used to pay under another, say IGST-tax, which is why your balance appears unusable despite money lying in the ledger. The remedy is Form PMT-09, which transfers the amount to the correct head instantly without any officer approval. Many ICF Colony taxpayers wrongly deposit a fresh challan in this situation; a two-minute PMT-09 filing saves that duplication. Call +91 - 9600 606 444 if your ledger looks stuck.
Are any goods exempt from GST when transported by a GTA?
Yes. Transport by a GTA of agricultural produce, milk, salt and foodgrains including flours and pulses, organic manure, newspapers and magazines registered with the Registrar of Newspapers, relief materials for victims of calamities, and defence or military equipment is exempt regardless of freight value. Note that the older exemptions for small consignments, Rs.1,500 for a full truckload and Rs.750 for a single consignee, were withdrawn with effect from 18 July 2022, so ordinary cargo enjoys no value-based relief now. Transporters serving agricultural markets should describe the produce accurately on the consignment note to support the exemption.
Which everyday goods now attract 5 percent GST?
The 5 percent slab now covers most household essentials that earlier fell in the 12 or 18 percent brackets: soaps, shampoos, toothpaste and toothbrushes, hair oil, bicycles, kitchen utensils and tableware. Packaged foods such as butter, ghee, cheese, namkeens, sauces, pasta, biscuits and chocolates are also at 5 percent, as are most medicines, medical devices and agricultural machinery. Apparel and footwear priced up to Rs.2,500 per piece attract 5 percent as well. Retailers in ICF Colony should update billing software rate masters item by item rather than assuming old rates continue.
How do I register my DSC on the GST portal, and why does the emSigner error keep appearing?
After logging in, open My Profile and select Register or Update DSC, choose the authorised signatory's PAN, and sign with the USB token; the certificate must be Class 3 and the PAN on it must match the signatory's PAN on the portal. Signing requires the emSigner utility running in the background, and the common failure to establish connection error means emSigner is not started, is blocked by the browser, or another application occupies its port. Run emSigner as administrator, keep the token connected, and use the trusted-site settings the portal recommends. We troubleshoot DSC issues for ICF Colony companies routinely; call +91 - 9600 606 444.
Why is my e-way bill generation blocked on the portal?
Under Rule 138E, the e-way bill facility is blocked when a taxpayer has not filed GSTR-3B (or CMP-08 for composition dealers) for two or more consecutive tax periods. Since an e-way bill is mandatory for moving goods worth more than Rs.50,000, blocking effectively halts dispatches. The remedy is straightforward: file the pending returns with late fee and interest, after which the facility unblocks automatically, usually the next day. Transporters and suppliers can also be affected when a counterparty GSTIN is blocked. We clear return backlogs for businesses in ICF Colony on priority; call +91 - 9600 606 444.
What is the process for revocation REG-21?
The process runs in clear stages: Cancellation review; Backlog filing; REG-21 application; Query and hearing response. A senior consultant reviews your file at each stage rather than passing it to a data-entry desk, and you receive a confirmation with the filed documents once it is complete. You always know which stage your work is at — we update you on WhatsApp instead of leaving you to follow up.
Is there a GST consultant near ICF Colony for gst revocation application?
Yes. We serve ICF Colony and the surrounding areas from our office at Porur, Chennai - 600 116, Tamil Nadu, and most revocation work is completed online — you send documents on WhatsApp and we handle the portal work. If you prefer in-person help, we offer doorstep document pickup across ICF Colony and you are welcome to visit our office. Reach us on +91 - 9600 606 444 between 9 AM and 8 PM, Monday to Saturday.
Are there any hidden charges for revocation REG-21?
No. The fee quoted before we start is the fee you pay. Government fees, portal charges or statutory late fees, where they apply, are separate and disclosed to you in advance with the exact amount. We issue a proper GST invoice for our professional fee. If the scope of work changes — for example, an unexpected notice or additional periods — we tell you the revised fee before doing anything further.
