Trade Profile and GST Jurisdiction for Vellaiyan Road, Kotturpuram

Kotturpuram, on the south bank of the Adyar around the Anna Centenary Library and the Housing Board blocks, is a professionals' quarter: independent consultants, architects, tutors and clinics work along Gandhi Mandapam Road and the numbered Main Roads. Many consultants billing from home offices cross the Rs.20 lakh services threshold quietly, and those serving overseas clients need a live LUT before invoicing exports without IGST. We have supported businesses of exactly this profile with New GST Registration across Kotturpuram for years, along with clients from Adyar and Nandanam. The engagement is simple: one point of contact, a clear fee, documents over WhatsApp or in person at our Chennai office, and senior review before anything is submitted on the portal. What you get in return is clean filings, archived records and far fewer reasons for the department to write to you.

GST jurisdiction for Kotturpuram (PIN 600085): businesses here generally fall under the CGST Chennai South Commissionerate. We regularly represent clients from Kotturpuram before this jurisdiction for registrations, clarifications and notice hearings, and can confirm your exact division and range from your GSTIN. State-jurisdiction cases are handled with the Tamil Nadu Commercial Taxes Department.
GST for Pharma Distributors in Kotturpuram
Distributing medicines in Kotturpuram means handling several rates at once: most formulations moved to 5 percent from 22 September 2025, while specified lifesaving drugs are nil-rated, and nil-rated sales trigger proportionate credit reversal under Rule 42. Date-expired stock returned by chemists must travel back either as a fresh supply from the retailer or against a credit note under Section 34, following the procedure laid down in Circular 72/46/2018, with credit reversal where the goods are destroyed. Batch-wise and expiry-wise stock records are what officers ask for first. A specialist manages the returns paperwork, rate masters and reversal workings that drug distribution demands.
Businesses in Kotturpuram typically choose professional New GST Registration because reconciled, senior-reviewed filings from Rs.1,499 prevent the late fees, lost credit and mismatch notices that self-filing commonly produces.
Why Us

Why Vellaiyan Road, Kotturpuram Businesses Choose ChennaiGST

Not a bulk-filing portal. A senior consultant knows your file, your jurisdiction and your deadlines.

Notice-Proof Filing Discipline

Most GST notices trace back to mismatches between GSTR-1, GSTR-3B and GSTR-2B. We reconcile these before filing, not after a notice arrives, so your returns are internally consistent and the most common triggers for ASMT-10 scrutiny simply never appear.

ITC Maximisation Within the Law

We match your purchase register against GSTR-2B every period, follow up on invoices your suppliers have not uploaded, and ensure every rupee of eligible input tax credit is claimed. Clients routinely recover credit they were silently losing under self-filing.

Advisory, Not Just Data Entry

We tell you when the composition scheme stops making sense, when QRMP suits your cash flow, and when a supplier's non-compliance is quietly costing you credit. Filing is the minimum; helping you make better GST decisions is the actual job.

E-Invoice and E-Way Bill Fluency

E-invoicing is mandatory once turnover crosses Rs.5 crore and e-way bills apply to goods movements above Rs.50,000. We set up, train and troubleshoot both systems, so your despatches from Kotturpuram are never held up by a compliance gap at the gate.

GST Portal Expertise, Including the Difficult Days

OTP failures, DSC errors, stuck submissions on due-date evenings — we deal with the GST portal daily and know the workarounds. When the site misbehaves on the 20th, our team keeps retrying and escalating so your return still goes through.

Notice Support Does Not Stop at Filing

If a query, ASMT-10 scrutiny notice or DRC-01 arrives on a return we filed, we stand behind our work and help you draft the reply. You are not left alone with a departmental letter and a thirty-day clock ticking against you.

How It Works

Our GST Registration Process

Document collection

You share PAN, Aadhaar, photographs, address proof and bank details over WhatsApp or email. We review each document against portal requirements and flag anything that could trigger an officer query.

Application preparation

We draft Form GST REG-01 with the correct business constitution, principal place of business, HSN or SAC codes and authorised signatory details, then share a summary for your confirmation.

Filing and Aadhaar authentication

The application is filed on the GST portal and we guide the authorised signatory through Aadhaar OTP authentication, which speeds up approval and usually avoids physical verification of premises.

Query handling

We track the ARN daily. If the officer issues a notice in Form REG-03 seeking clarification, we draft and file the reply in Form REG-04 within the permitted time.

GSTIN delivery and handover

Once approved, we download your registration certificate in Form REG-06, help set up portal login credentials, and brief you on invoice format, return due dates and e-way bill obligations.

Outcomes

What You Get

Practical outcomes our clients measure us by.

Growth Without Compliance Anxiety

New branches, new product lines and interstate sales all carry GST consequences. With standing professional support, you expand knowing registrations, invoicing and returns will keep pace with the business.

Waiver Benefits Never Missed

Late-fee waivers and amnesty windows notified by the GST Council are applied to your history within their deadlines, capturing reliefs that most businesses only hear about once the window has already closed.

Stronger Standing with Corporate Buyers

Large buyers check vendor GST compliance before releasing payments and renewing contracts. A clean filing record with timely GSTR-1 uploads keeps your invoices reflecting in their GSTR-2B and your payments unblocked.

Credit Notes That Actually Reduce Your Tax

Sales returns, discounts and price revisions are adjusted through properly reported credit notes within the statutory window, so you never keep paying tax on turnover you have already reversed.

Audit-Ready Records at All Times

Filed returns, challans, reconciliations and working papers are archived in order from day one. If an audit or departmental verification comes, your file is ready the same week, not assembled in a panic.

Notices Answered Within the Time Limit

Statutory windows such as thirty days for an ASMT-11 reply are tracked from the day a notice arrives, so responses go in on time, complete, and with your best case properly presented.

Why a Specialist Matters

With ChennaiGST vs Doing It Yourself

AspectWith ChennaiGSTDIY / Unattended
Time costRoughly an hour a month to send data and approve drafts; the portal work, reconciliation and follow-up are ours.Hours every month lost to portal errors, JSON files, OTP failures and reworking figures — usually on the due date itself.
Record keepingEvery return, challan, acknowledgement and working paper archived in an organised folder, retrievable in minutes years later.Documents scattered across email, downloads and old phones; assembling records for a bank or an audit takes days.
Due-date trackingA maintained compliance calendar with internal cut-offs days before the 11th and the 20th; we chase you for data, not the other way around.Deadlines remembered from memory or phone alarms; one busy week and the return slips past the due date.
When a notice arrivesA professional drafts the reply in the department's format and files it within the statutory window, such as thirty days for ASMT-11.You face departmental language alone, and a missed reply deadline can convert a simple query into a demand with penalty.
Refund claimsRFD-01 filed with complete statements and annexures, tracked from ARN to bank credit, with any deficiency memo answered promptly.Incomplete claims bounce back as deficiency memos while the refund sits unclaimed for months and working capital stays blocked.
Late fees and interestFilings go in ahead of statutory dates, so the Rs.50-per-day late fee and 18 percent interest never arise.Late fees accumulate silently every delayed day, and interest on unpaid tax runs at 18 percent per annum.

Recent Developments in GST — relevant to Kotturpuram businesses

Selected notifications, Council decisions and court rulings that practising consultants are applying to live cases.

Notification

Packaged food staples settled at 5 per cent

Notification No. 9/2025-Central Tax (Rate), dated 17 September 2025, Schedule I, Chapters 4 to 21 · 2025-09-17

Schedule I places butter, ghee and other dairy fats, cheese, condensed and concentrated milk, yoghurt, pre-packaged and labelled curd, lassi and buttermilk, natural honey, roasted coffee, pasta and seviyan, namkeens, bhujia and mixture, ice cream and other edible ice, biscuits, sauces and most processed foods at five per cent. Chena and paneer, ultra-high temperature milk and Indian breads are fully exempt under the companion exemption notification, so the food chain now runs at either nil or five per cent.

Why this matters: Supermarkets and food distributors in Chennai should be charging five per cent or nil on almost their entire grocery range from 22 September 2025.

Case Law

A transporter can get the lorry released, but only the owner of the goods can seek release of the goods

M/s. Lodha Roadways v. Deputy State Tax Officer — Madras High Court, W.P. No. 12595 of 2023, decided 24 April 2023 (Anita Sumanth J.) · 2023-04-24

A transporter sought release of detained goods. The Court dismissed the petition, holding that under Section 129 the entitlement to seek release of goods lies only with the owner, his agent or representative. The transporter's remedy is confined to release of the conveyance on payment of the penalty or one lakh rupees, whichever is less. Any claim about payment of tax on the consignment has to be pursued by the assessee who owns the goods, not by the carrier.

What it means for you: When a Chennai consignment is detained, the consignor or consignee must file the release application in its own name; letting the lorry operator do it will cost time.

Portal Advisory

No GSTR-1 filing without validated bank account details

GSTN Advisory dated 23 August 2024 — Rule 10A bank account furnishing · 2024-08-23

GSTN advised that under Rule 10A of the CGST Rules, registered taxpayers must furnish valid bank account details within 30 days of registration or before filing GSTR-1 or IFF, whichever is earlier. From 1 September 2024 the portal blocks GSTR-1 and IFF filing for taxpayers whose bank account details are not available and validated on the portal. The measure targets fraudulent registrations created without genuine banking trails.

Why this matters: Newly registered businesses should add and validate their bank account on the portal immediately after registration to avoid a filing blockage.

I am a doctor running my own clinic. Do I need GST registration at all?
If your entire income consists of exempt healthcare services, no. Section 23 provides that a person engaged exclusively in supplying exempt goods or services is not liable to registration, irrespective of turnover, so a practitioner earning even Rs.1 crore purely from consultations and treatment need not register. The position changes the moment taxable income enters the same PAN, such as commercial property rent, pharmacy sales to outpatients, aesthetic procedures or paid webinars for a company; then the normal Rs.20 lakh aggregate threshold applies, counting the exempt receipts too. Many doctors in Kotturpuram cross the line through rental income without noticing.
How do I apply for a new GST registration for my business in Kotturpuram?
GST registration is done online on the GST portal in two parts. In Part A of Form REG-01 you validate your PAN, mobile number and email to generate a Temporary Reference Number. In Part B you upload your business details, promoter details, principal place of business proof, bank details and photographs, then sign with EVC or DSC. On submission you receive an ARN to track status. If Aadhaar authentication succeeds and the application is complete, approval normally follows within about seven working days. Our team in Kotturpuram handles the entire filing end to end; call +91 - 9600 606 444 to get started.
I just received my GSTIN. What returns do I need to start filing?
From your first tax period, a regular taxpayer files GSTR-1, the outward supplies statement, by the 11th of the following month, and GSTR-3B, the summary return with tax payment, by the 20th. If your expected turnover is up to Rs.5 crore, you can opt for the QRMP scheme: returns become quarterly, GSTR-3B is due by the 22nd of the month after the quarter for Tamil Nadu, monthly tax is paid by challan, and the optional IFF by the 13th lets you pass credit to buyers monthly. Returns are mandatory even for nil turnover; the nil late fee is Rs.20 per day. Call +91 - 9600 606 444 and we will set up your filing calendar.
I am a freelancer in Kotturpuram. At what turnover do I need GST registration for services?
For service providers in Tamil Nadu, GST registration becomes mandatory when aggregate turnover crosses Rs.20 lakh in a financial year. This is a PAN-level, all-India figure covering taxable and exempt services together. Freelancers billing foreign clients should note that export income also counts towards the Rs.20 lakh threshold, although exports themselves can be made tax-free under a LUT after registration. If you supply both goods and services, the Rs.20 lakh service threshold applies to you, not the Rs.40 lakh goods threshold. Call +91 - 9600 606 444 if you want us to assess exactly when your registration obligation starts.
We have branches in three states. What is ISD registration and do we need it?
An Input Service Distributor is a head office that receives invoices for common input services, such as audit fees or software subscriptions, and distributes the input tax credit to branches with separate GSTINs. ISD requires a separate registration in Form REG-01, distinct from your normal registration on the same PAN, and the ISD files monthly GSTR-6 by the 13th to distribute credit. Following amendments made effective from 1 April 2025, distributing common input service credit through the ISD mechanism is mandatory for multi-state businesses, so head offices in Kotturpuram with out-of-state branches should obtain ISD registration without delay.
What proof do I give if I own the property where my business runs?
For owned premises, any one ownership document is sufficient: the latest property tax receipt, a municipal khata copy, or a copy of the electricity bill in the owner's name. If the property is in the name of a family member, treat it like consented premises and attach a consent letter or NOC from that relative along with their ownership proof. The GST portal accepts PDF or JPEG uploads within the prescribed size limits. Many home-based businesses in Kotturpuram register at their residential address this way, since GST law does not require a commercial property for registration.
My workshop bills customers for spare parts and labour together. How should GST be charged?
The accepted practice, supported by CBIC's clarification on servicing, is that where the invoice separately shows the value of parts and the value of labour, each takes its own treatment: parts as a supply of goods and repair labour as a service at 18%. Since auto components also moved to 18% from September 2025, both lines of a typical job card now carry the same rate, which removes the old temptation to shift value between parts and labour. Still keep the split, because HSN and SAC reporting in GSTR-1 differ for goods and services. Workshops can call +91 - 9600 606 444 for invoice-format templates.
How are B2B and B2C invoices reported differently in GST returns?
B2B invoices, meaning supplies to registered buyers, are reported invoice by invoice in Table 4 of GSTR-1 with the buyer's GSTIN, so each one flows into that buyer's GSTR-2B for credit. B2C supplies are split into two streams: large inter-state invoices above the threshold are reported invoice-wise in Table 5, while all remaining B2C sales are reported as consolidated, rate-wise totals per state in Table 7. This is why capturing the buyer's GSTIN correctly at billing matters so much; an invoice keyed as B2C by a cashier gives the registered buyer no credit and triggers correction requests later.
How long does a GST amendment take to get approved?
Non-core amendments, covering bank accounts, authorised signatory details and the goods and services list, take effect immediately upon submission with no officer involvement. Core amendments, covering legal name, trade name, places of business and promoter changes, go to the jurisdictional officer, who normally acts within about fifteen working days. If the officer neither approves nor issues a notice within the prescribed period, the amendment is deemed approved and the certificate updates automatically. If a notice seeking clarification is issued, reply within seven working days to avoid rejection. Track everything with the ARN generated on submission of REG-14.
What is self-invoicing under RCM and is there a time limit for it?
When you receive supplies liable to reverse charge from an unregistered supplier, Section 31(3)(f) requires you, the recipient, to issue an invoice on yourself, because the supplier cannot issue a tax invoice. You must also issue a payment voucher when paying the supplier. From 1 November 2024, Rule 47A prescribes a firm deadline: the self-invoice must be issued within thirty days of receiving the supply. This document is not a formality; the time limit for claiming the RCM credit is reckoned from the self-invoice, and its absence can cost you the credit besides inviting penalty. Maintain a monthly self-invoice series covering rent, freight, legal fees and similar unregistered-supplier heads.
Which purchases commonly attract GST under reverse charge for a regular business?
Under Section 9(3), the recipient pays tax on notified supplies. The entries a typical business in Kotturpuram encounters are: goods transport agency services, services of advocates and arbitral tribunals, sponsorship provided to companies and partnership firms, services of directors, security services from non-corporate providers, renting of passenger motor vehicles from non-corporate operators charging five percent, import of services, and renting of property from unregistered landlords in notified cases. Each month, scan your expense ledger for these heads, pay the tax in cash through GSTR-3B, and claim it back as ITC where eligible. Missed RCM is among the top audit findings; call +91 - 9600 606 444 for an RCM exposure review.
What GST rate applies to cars and two-wheelers now?
Small cars, meaning petrol cars up to 1200cc and diesel cars up to 1500cc with length not exceeding 4 metres, attract 18 percent GST, down sharply from the earlier 28 percent plus cess. Larger cars, SUVs above these specifications, attract the 40 percent rate, but with the compensation cess gone, the overall burden on most of them is still lower than before. Motorcycles up to 350cc are at 18 percent, while those above 350cc attract 40 percent. Electric vehicles continue at a concessional 5 percent. Dealers must also apply these rates to demo vehicle sales.
My customer in Mumbai asked me to deliver goods directly to his buyer in Kotturpuram. How do I bill this?
This is a bill-to ship-to transaction under Section 10(1)(b). When goods are delivered to a third party on the instruction of your customer, the law deems your customer's principal place of business as the place of supply, not the actual delivery point. So you invoice the Mumbai customer with IGST even though the goods physically moved within Tamil Nadu, and the Mumbai customer raises a second invoice on the ultimate recipient in Kotturpuram. Only one e-way bill is needed for the movement, generated by either party with both invoice legs captured. Wrongly billing the delivery-point state is a classic error that misplaces the credit chain entirely.
How is interest calculated on a GST demand or late payment?
Interest runs at 18 percent per annum under Section 50 on tax paid after the due date, computed day-wise from the day following the due date until payment. Following amendments, interest on delayed GSTR-3B liability applies on the portion paid through the electronic cash ledger, and interest on wrongly availed ITC arises where the credit has been both availed and utilised. Interest is payable even where no penalty applies, and it cannot be waived by the officer. Because interest compounds silently over long disputes, paying the admitted tax early through DRC-03, even while contesting the rest, often saves a substantial amount.
What is the place of supply for freight and courier charges on goods?
For transportation of goods, including by courier, Section 12(8) fixes the place of supply as the location of the recipient where the recipient is registered. Where the recipient is unregistered, it is the location where the goods are handed over for transportation. So a registered Kotturpuram manufacturer paying a transporter for a Chennai-to-Delhi movement has Tamil Nadu as the place of supply, and the RCM liability is paid as CGST plus SGST if the transporter is also in Tamil Nadu. This rule matters chiefly for paying reverse charge on GTA freight under the correct heads, because paying IGST where CGST and SGST were due creates a refund-and-repay exercise later.
How much time do I get to raise an invoice for services?
A tax invoice for services must be issued within thirty days from the date of supply of the service. For banks, insurers, financial institutions and NBFCs, the limit is forty-five days. Where services are supplied continuously, the invoice follows the contract: if the due date of payment is ascertainable, invoice on or before that date; if not, invoice when payment is received; and if payment is linked to completion of an event or milestone, invoice on or before its completion. Consultants and agencies that bill quarterly should check their contracts against these rules, since late invoicing defers nothing legally.
How long does new GST registration take in Kotturpuram?
3-7 working days. That assumes your documents are complete and there is no departmental query. We start the same day we receive your papers and tell you the realistic completion date upfront rather than an optimistic one. Where the GST portal or the officer causes delay — clarifications, physical verification or system issues — we track it daily and keep you informed on WhatsApp.
How much does new GST registration cost in Kotturpuram?
Our fee for new GST registration in Kotturpuram starts at Rs.1,499 and is quoted in full before we begin — there are no hidden charges added later. The fee covers professional work end to end: document review, preparation, filing and follow-up until completion. Government fees or portal charges, where applicable, are separate and always shown to you upfront. For an exact quote based on your turnover and business type, call +91 - 9600 606 444 and a consultant will confirm it on the call.
What documents are required for new GST registration in Kotturpuram?
For new GST registration you will generally need: PAN card of the proprietor, firm or company, Aadhaar card of proprietor, partners or directors, Passport-size photograph of proprietor, partners or directors, Business address proof such as electricity bill or property tax receipt, Rent agreement and owner NOC if premises are rented. The exact list depends on your constitution — proprietorship, partnership, LLP or company — and on the specifics of your case. Send what you have on WhatsApp to +91 - 9600 606 444 and we will confirm within the same working day exactly what else is needed, so nothing is rejected later for a missing paper.
