Trade Profile and GST Jurisdiction for Jayachandran Nagar 2nd Main Road, Medavakkam

Medavakkam's junction links Velachery, Tambaram, Sholinganallur and Mambakkam, making it one of south Chennai's fastest-selling apartment markets, ringed by builders, hardware and sanitaryware dealers, supermarkets and tuition centres along Medavakkam Main Road and the Sholinganallur route. Promoters using the 1 and 5 per cent residential rates must source at least 80 per cent of inputs from registered suppliers or pay tax on the shortfall under reverse charge. We have supported businesses of exactly this profile with GSTR-1 & GSTR-3B Monthly Filing across Medavakkam for years, along with clients from Pallikaranai and Madipakkam. The engagement is simple: one point of contact, a clear fee, documents over WhatsApp or in person at our Chennai office, and senior review before anything is submitted on the portal. What you get in return is clean filings, archived records and far fewer reasons for the department to write to you.

GST jurisdiction for Medavakkam (PIN 600100): businesses here generally fall under the CGST Chennai South Commissionerate. We regularly represent clients from Medavakkam before this jurisdiction for registrations, clarifications and notice hearings, and can confirm your exact division and range from your GSTIN. State-jurisdiction cases are handled with the Tamil Nadu Commercial Taxes Department.
GST for Builders and Contractors in Medavakkam
Under-construction residential sales are taxed at 1 percent for affordable housing and 5 percent for other units, both without input credit, while commercial works contracts run at 18 percent with credit. Builders must procure at least 80 percent of inputs and input services from registered suppliers each year; any shortfall attracts tax under reverse charge, and cement bought from unregistered dealers is taxed under reverse charge at its full rate regardless of the shortfall test. Development rights and joint development agreements carry their own liability trigger points. A specialist runs the 80-20 computation annually and tracks reverse charge on cement and landowner area sharing so project costing stays accurate.
For GSTR-1 & GSTR-3B Monthly Filing in Medavakkam, you typically need your PAN, Aadhaar, business address proof, bank details and relevant invoices; the exact checklist is shared on WhatsApp and fees start at Rs.749.
Why Us

Why Jayachandran Nagar 2nd Main Road, Medavakkam Businesses Choose ChennaiGST

Not a bulk-filing portal. A senior consultant knows your file, your jurisdiction and your deadlines.

E-Invoice and E-Way Bill Fluency

E-invoicing is mandatory once turnover crosses Rs.5 crore and e-way bills apply to goods movements above Rs.50,000. We set up, train and troubleshoot both systems, so your despatches from Medavakkam are never held up by a compliance gap at the gate.

Correct HSN Codes and Rates, Verified

GSTR-1 requires four-digit HSN reporting for turnover up to Rs.5 crore and six digits above it, and a wrong code often means a wrong rate. We verify the classification of what you actually supply, so your invoices and returns rest on defensible codes.

Same-Day Response, Every Working Day

Send your query on call or WhatsApp and you hear back the same working day, usually within a few hours. When a due date is close or a notice has landed, waiting two days for a reply is simply not acceptable, and we know it.

WhatsApp Updates at Every Stage

You receive a WhatsApp message when documents are received, when the draft is ready for your approval, and when the return or application is filed, along with the acknowledgement. You never have to call and ask what is happening with your file.

ITC Maximisation Within the Law

We match your purchase register against GSTR-2B every period, follow up on invoices your suppliers have not uploaded, and ensure every rupee of eligible input tax credit is claimed. Clients routinely recover credit they were silently losing under self-filing.

Clean Exits When a Business Closes

Winding up attracts its own GST obligations — the cancellation application, reversal of credit on closing stock, and the final return in GSTR-10 within three months. We close registrations properly so a business you shut in Medavakkam never writes back to you as a demand years later.

How It Works

Our Monthly Returns Process

Monthly data collection

At month end we remind you and collect sales invoices, purchase bills and credit notes in whatever format you maintain, including Excel, Tally exports or scanned copies.

GSTR-1 preparation and filing

We prepare invoice-wise outward supply details, validate GSTINs of your B2B customers, summarise B2C supplies and file GSTR-1 on the portal before the 11th.

ITC reconciliation with GSTR-2B

We download your auto-drafted GSTR-2B, match it against purchase records, and claim only eligible input tax credit so that mismatches do not trigger scrutiny notices later.

Tax computation and confirmation

We compute net tax payable after ITC set-off, share the working with you for approval, and generate the payment challan for any cash liability.

GSTR-3B filing and reporting

After your confirmation and tax payment, we file GSTR-3B before the 20th and send you both filed acknowledgements along with a one-page summary of the month.

Outcomes

What You Get

Practical outcomes our clients measure us by.

The Lowest Tax Position the Law Allows

Your scheme choice — regular, composition or QRMP — is re-examined as turnover and margins change, so you are always paying under the structure that legitimately costs your business the least.

A Professional Face on Every Invoice

Correct, complete tax invoices signal a well-run business to customers, vendors and banks alike, quietly strengthening your credibility in every transaction where your paperwork is seen.

Fewer Departmental Notices

Consistent, reconciled returns give the department's matching systems nothing to flag. Clients who move to us after years of self-filing typically see scrutiny queries and mismatch notices fall away within a few filing cycles.

Bank and Tender Readiness

Loan applications and government tenders routinely demand GST returns and registration documents. With everything filed and archived properly, you can produce a complete compliance file within hours instead of days.

Annual Returns Without the Year-End Scramble

Because monthly data is reconciled as it happens, GSTR-9 preparation before the 31 December due date becomes a review exercise rather than a painful reconstruction of twelve untidy months.

Notices Answered Within the Time Limit

Statutory windows such as thirty days for an ASMT-11 reply are tracked from the day a notice arrives, so responses go in on time, complete, and with your best case properly presented.

Why a Specialist Matters

With ChennaiGST vs Doing It Yourself

AspectWith ChennaiGSTDIY / Unattended
Risk of noticesGSTR-1, GSTR-3B and GSTR-2B reconciled before filing, removing the mismatches that trigger most scrutiny notices.Inconsistent figures across returns quietly build a mismatch history that surfaces later as ASMT-10 scrutiny or a demand notice.
When a notice arrivesA professional drafts the reply in the department's format and files it within the statutory window, such as thirty days for ASMT-11.You face departmental language alone, and a missed reply deadline can convert a simple query into a demand with penalty.
Refund claimsRFD-01 filed with complete statements and annexures, tracked from ARN to bank credit, with any deficiency memo answered promptly.Incomplete claims bounce back as deficiency memos while the refund sits unclaimed for months and working capital stays blocked.
Due-date trackingA maintained compliance calendar with internal cut-offs days before the 11th and the 20th; we chase you for data, not the other way around.Deadlines remembered from memory or phone alarms; one busy week and the return slips past the due date.
Registration and amendmentsQuery-resistant applications prepared correctly the first time, with supporting documents matched to what proper officers actually verify.Repeated clarification memos and resubmissions, with weeks lost because a rent agreement or premises photograph did not meet expectations.
Late fees and interestFilings go in ahead of statutory dates, so the Rs.50-per-day late fee and 18 percent interest never arise.Late fees accumulate silently every delayed day, and interest on unpaid tax runs at 18 percent per annum.

GST Council

Group of Ministers formed on State cess for natural calamities

30th GST Council Meeting (video conference) — 28 September 2018 (PIB Release ID 1547891) · 2018-09-28

Meeting shortly after the Kerala floods, the Council discussed that State's proposal to impose a cess on SGST to fund rehabilitation and flood-related works. Because GST had removed the States' independent power to levy such a cess, the Council constituted a seven-member Group of Ministers convened by the Deputy Chief Minister of Bihar, with members from Assam, Kerala, Maharashtra, Odisha, Punjab and Uttarakhand, to examine modalities for revenue mobilisation in case of natural calamities and disasters, reporting by 31 October 2018.

How we apply it: This process produced the Kerala flood cess of 2019, the only State-specific GST cess so far, and set the template for how any similar Tamil Nadu levy would have to be approved.

AAR Ruling

No second levy of IGST when goods leave a Free Trade Warehousing Zone

The Bank of Nova Scotia - AAR Tamil Nadu, Order No. TN/23/AAR/2018, dated 31 December 2018 · 2018-12-31

The bank imported goods and stored them in a Free Trade Warehousing Zone before they were cleared. It asked whether integrated tax was payable again when the goods were removed from the zone to the domestic tariff area, over and above the tax collected at the time of customs clearance. The Authority, following Circular No. 3/1/2018-IGST dated 25 May 2018, held that the applicant is not liable to pay IGST at the time of removal, the levy arising once at clearance for home consumption.

How we apply it: Chennai importers using FTWZ facilities pay IGST once at clearance and should resist any demand for a second levy on removal.

Portal Advisory

Table 3.2 of GSTR-3B: locking announced, then temporarily relaxed

GSTN Advisories dated 11 April 2025 and 16 May 2025 — Table 3.2 of GSTR-3B · 2025-04-11

GSTN first advised that from the April 2025 period, auto-populated values in Table 3.2 of GSTR-3B, covering inter-state supplies to unregistered persons, composition taxpayers and UIN holders, would become non-editable, with corrections routed through GSTR-1A. After taxpayer representations, a 16 May 2025 advisory kept Table 3.2 editable for the time being. The locking was later subsumed in the broader hard-locking of GSTR-3B liability during 2025.

What it means for you: Report place-of-supply details correctly in GSTR-1 itself, since state-wise B2C figures in GSTR-3B are moving beyond manual correction.

FAQs

Frequently Asked Questions

Straight answers from practising GST consultants — based on the CGST Act, current CBIC notifications and day-to-day portal experience.

Are there any hidden charges for GSTR-1 & GSTR-3B monthly filing?
No. The fee quoted before we start is the fee you pay. Government fees, portal charges or statutory late fees, where they apply, are separate and disclosed to you in advance with the exact amount. We issue a proper GST invoice for our professional fee. If the scope of work changes — for example, an unexpected notice or additional periods — we tell you the revised fee before doing anything further.
Can I get GSTR-1 & GSTR-3B monthly filing done online without visiting the office?
Yes, the entire process can be handled online. You share scanned documents on WhatsApp or email, we prepare and file everything on the GST portal, and you receive the acknowledgement and filed copies digitally. Businesses in Medavakkam regularly complete monthly returns with us without a single office visit. If a physical verification or personal hearing is required by the department, we guide you through it.
My credit notes this month exceed my sales. Can GSTR-3B show a negative figure?
Yes. Since the January 2024 tax period, the portal permits negative values in Table 3.1 of GSTR-3B where credit notes issued in a month exceed the outward supplies, a situation common in businesses with heavy sales returns. The resulting negative liability is carried forward automatically by the system and adjusted against the liability of subsequent tax periods, so you no longer need to defer reporting credit notes. Ensure the same credit notes are reported in GSTR-1, because GSTR-3B auto-populates from it and manual deviations invite the portal's variance flags. Retailers with seasonal return spikes benefit most from this facility.
My bank account was debited for a GST challan but the cash ledger shows nothing. What do I do?
This is a payment-communication failure between the bank and the portal, and the prescribed remedy is Form PMT-07, filed under Services, then Payments, then Grievance against Payment. Quote the CPIN, bank name and debit details; the system takes up the discrepancy with the bank, and the amount either credits your ledger once the bank confirms, or is re-credited to your account if the transaction failed. Do not pay twice immediately; most cases resolve within a day or two. If a return due date is pressing, generate a fresh challan and later seek refund of the duplicate. Medavakkam clients can call +91 - 9600 606 444 for urgent help.
My company has taken a residential flat on rent. Why is our accountant paying GST on it?
Because of a reverse charge entry effective 18 July 2022: renting of a residential dwelling to a registered person attracts 18 percent GST payable by the tenant under reverse charge, even when the landlord is unregistered. Renting to unregistered individuals for residence remains fully exempt. There is a carve-out from 1 January 2023: a proprietor renting a dwelling in his personal capacity for use as his own residence, on his own account and not for the business, is exempt. Companies and firms renting flats, including for guest houses, must therefore pay RCM monthly through GSTR-3B. We correct many such missed entries during our compliance health checks.
How does an ISD actually distribute credit among branches?
Distribution follows Section 20 read with Rule 39. Credit attributable to a single branch goes only to that branch; credit for common services is distributed among operational branches in the ratio of their turnover in the preceding financial year. The ISD issues an ISD invoice to each recipient GSTIN and reports the distribution in GSTR-6 by the 13th of the following month, after which the credit appears in each branch's GSTR-2B. IGST credit is distributed as IGST, while CGST and SGST credit is distributed as IGST to branches in other states. Excess distribution is recoverable from the recipient with interest, so the turnover ratios must be computed carefully each year.
What is a debit note under GST and when do I issue one?
You issue a debit note when the taxable value or tax charged in the original invoice was less than what is actually payable, for example a price escalation clause kicking in or a rate charged short. Declaring the debit note in GSTR-1 increases your output liability, payable with interest where the shortfall relates to an earlier period. There is no outer time limit on issuing a debit note itself. For your buyer, the debit note is a credit document: following the amendment to Section 16(4), the buyer's time limit to claim ITC runs from the date of the debit note, not the original invoice.
A client paid me an advance. Do I raise an invoice or something else?
On receiving an advance, you issue a receipt voucher under Rule 50, not an invoice; the tax invoice follows when the service is actually supplied. GST is payable on advances received for services in the period of receipt, and the receipt voucher documents that liability. Advances for the supply of goods are not taxed at receipt for normal taxpayers under Notification 66/2017. If the rate is not determinable when the advance arrives, tax is paid at 18 percent, and if the nature of supply is not determinable, it is treated as inter-state. Service firms in Medavakkam with retainer billing should map this into their monthly cycle.
How do I pay tax monthly under QRMP if the return is only quarterly?
For the first two months of each quarter, tax is deposited through challan PMT-06 by the 25th of the following month. You can use the fixed sum method, paying 35 percent of the tax paid in cash in the previous quarter (or 100 percent of the tax paid in cash in the last month of the previous quarter if you were a monthly filer), or the self-assessment method, paying actual liability after adjusting input tax credit. The third month's tax is settled in the quarterly GSTR-3B itself. We compute the safer option for each client in Medavakkam every month.
Is there a last date to claim input tax credit for a financial year?
Yes. Under Section 16(4), ITC for invoices and debit notes of a financial year must be claimed by the earlier of 30 November following the end of that financial year or the date of filing the annual return GSTR-9. So credit on a March 2026 invoice must be taken in a GSTR-3B filed on or before 30 November 2026. Credits discovered after this date are permanently lost, which is why a year-end reconciliation in September or October, comparing books, GSTR-2B and GSTR-3B for the full year, is essential for every business in Medavakkam.
What information is needed to prepare my GSTR-9?
The portal auto-drafts GSTR-9 from your filed GSTR-1 and GSTR-3B, and provides a system-computed summary along with GSTR-2A/2B data for credit tables. To verify and complete it we need your audited or finalised financial statements, sales and purchase registers, input tax credit ledger, details of RCM payments, HSN-wise summaries, and any DRC-03 payments made during the year. Differences between books and returns must be explained and, where needed, paid. Sharing these by early November gives enough time for a clean filing before 31 December. Call +91 - 9600 606 444 for our standard checklist.
I hold stock purchased before the September 2025 rate cuts at higher tax rates. What happens when I sell it now?
You charge the rate in force on the date of supply, so goods sold on or after 22 September 2025 carry the new lower rate even if you bought them when the rate was 12% or 28%. The input tax credit you took at the old, higher rate remains fully intact in your credit ledger and is not restricted merely because output is now taxed lower; it simply sets off across your overall liability. No stock declaration was required for this transition. What traders in Medavakkam must avoid is selling old-MRP stock at prices that ignore the tax cut without reviewing pricing. Call +91 - 9600 606 444 for a transition check.
What GST rate applies to a goods transport agency: 5 percent or 18 percent?
Both exist, depending on the option exercised. The default position is 5 percent payable by the specified recipient under reverse charge, with no input tax credit to the GTA. Alternatively, a GTA may opt to pay tax itself under forward charge, either at 5 percent without input tax credit or at the higher rate with full credit, which was revised from 12 percent to 18 percent with effect from 22 September 2025. The with-credit option suits transporters with large spends on vehicles and tyres. Once the forward charge option is exercised for a year, it applies to all consignments of that year.
Why are so many businesses suddenly receiving GST notices these days?
Enforcement has shifted from manual selection to data analytics. The portal now automatically compares GSTR-1 with GSTR-3B and flags tax shortfalls through DRC-01B intimations under Rule 88C, and compares GSTR-2B with GSTR-3B to flag excess ITC through DRC-01C under Rule 88D. E-way bill, e-invoice, TDS and income tax data are also cross-matched, and limitation deadlines for older financial years have pushed departments to clear pending demands in batches. The practical lesson for Medavakkam businesses is that mismatches no longer go unnoticed, so month-wise reconciliation before filing is now essential hygiene rather than a year-end exercise.
Can you give me a simple GST due-date calendar for my business?
For monthly filers: GSTR-1 by the 11th and GSTR-3B by the 20th of the next month. Under QRMP: optional IFF by the 13th of the next month, PMT-06 payment by the 25th, quarterly GSTR-1 by the 13th and GSTR-3B by the 22nd (Tamil Nadu) after the quarter. Composition dealers pay via CMP-08 by the 18th after each quarter and file GSTR-4 annually by 30 June. GSTR-7 and GSTR-8 are due on the 10th, and GSTR-9 and GSTR-9C by 31 December. Clients in Medavakkam receive our reminder messages before every date.
My GST status shows suspended. What does that mean for my business in Medavakkam?
Suspension is an intermediate state that occurs when you apply for cancellation, or when the officer initiates cancellation proceedings, commonly for return defaults or data mismatches. While suspended, you cannot make taxable supplies, meaning you should not issue tax invoices or charge GST, and e-way bill generation is blocked. The fix depends on the cause: if you triggered it by applying for cancellation, await the order; if the department triggered it, reply to the show cause notice in REG-18 within seven working days and clear pending returns. Acting within the notice window usually gets the suspension lifted; call +91 - 9600 606 444 if you have received one.
Which everyday goods now attract 5 percent GST?
The 5 percent slab now covers most household essentials that earlier fell in the 12 or 18 percent brackets: soaps, shampoos, toothpaste and toothbrushes, hair oil, bicycles, kitchen utensils and tableware. Packaged foods such as butter, ghee, cheese, namkeens, sauces, pasta, biscuits and chocolates are also at 5 percent, as are most medicines, medical devices and agricultural machinery. Apparel and footwear priced up to Rs.2,500 per piece attract 5 percent as well. Retailers in Medavakkam should update billing software rate masters item by item rather than assuming old rates continue.
Where is the place of supply for services connected to a building or land?
Services directly relating to immovable property, including those of architects, interior decorators, engineers, surveyors, construction and works contract services, renting, and accommodation in hotels, are supplied where the property is located, under Section 12(3). The recipient's location and registration are irrelevant. So a Medavakkam architect designing a factory in Coimbatore charges CGST plus SGST of Tamil Nadu, but for a project in Kochi the place of supply is Kerala and IGST applies. For hotels, the state where the hotel stands is always the place of supply, which is why accommodation is invariably billed with that state's local taxes regardless of where the guest's business is registered.
Which GST office handles Medavakkam businesses?
Businesses in Medavakkam (PIN 600100) generally fall under the CGST Chennai South Commissionerate, with state-jurisdiction cases handled by the Tamil Nadu Commercial Taxes Department. Your exact division and range can be confirmed from your GSTIN on the GST portal. We regularly appear before this jurisdiction for registrations, clarifications and hearings, so we know the local practice and documentation preferences.

The process runs in clear stages: Monthly data collection; GSTR-1 preparation and filing; ITC reconciliation with GSTR-2B; Tax computation and confirmation. A senior consultant reviews your file at each stage rather than passing it to a data-entry desk, and you receive a confirmation with the filed documents once it is complete. You always know which stage your work is at — we update you on WhatsApp instead of leaving you to follow up.
