Trade Profile and GST Jurisdiction for Ayanambakkam

Ayanambakkam lies north of Vanagaram on the Vanagaram-Ambattur-Puzhal Road, pairing the old village core around Etteeswarar Koil Street, Vellalar Street and Yadaval Street with gated blocks off S&P Main Road, Metro City Park Road and the Nolambur Phase-1 edge. Fabrication and job-work units, godown operators, apartment promoters, supermarkets and packers-and-movers trade here. Missed ITC-04 filings for goods sent to job workers, works-contract classification and QRMP versus monthly return choices are the routine issues. That commercial character shapes the GST questions we see from Ayanambakkam every week — registrations, monthly returns, credit mismatches and departmental queries. We deliver QRMP Quarterly Filing for businesses in Ayanambakkam, and clients also reach us from Vanagaram and Nolambur nearby. Documents move over WhatsApp, drafts are approved before filing, and a senior consultant reviews every submission, so distance from our office never dilutes the quality of the work.

GST jurisdiction for Ayanambakkam (PIN 600095): businesses here generally fall under the CGST Chennai North Commissionerate. We regularly represent clients from Ayanambakkam before this jurisdiction for registrations, clarifications and notice hearings, and can confirm your exact division and range from your GSTIN. State-jurisdiction cases are handled with the Tamil Nadu Commercial Taxes Department.
GST for Professional Services Firms in Ayanambakkam
Professional firms bill at 18 percent, but the mechanics differ by profession: services of advocates to business entities are taxed in the client's hands under reverse charge, while chartered accountants, company secretaries and architects charge tax on their own invoices. Fees received in advance are taxable on receipt, and retainers must be invoiced within the time limits of Section 31(2). Amounts recovered from clients as a pure agent, such as government fees paid on their behalf, stay outside taxable value only if every condition of Rule 33 is met and documented. A specialist sets up retainer invoicing, pure agent documentation and branch cross-charges correctly; call +91 - 9600 606 444 to discuss your firm.
You can move your QRMP Quarterly Filing to a new consultant in Ayanambakkam at any time mid-year; past filings are reviewed, pending items are regularised, and ongoing fees start at Rs.1,499.
Why Us

Why Ayanambakkam Businesses Choose ChennaiGST

Not a bulk-filing portal. A senior consultant knows your file, your jurisdiction and your deadlines.

✓

Reverse Charge Tracked, Not Forgotten

Freight paid to transporters, advocate fees, imported services and other notified supplies attract GST under reverse charge, with self-invoicing where the supplier is unregistered. We maintain a running RCM check every period, because this is the liability self-filers most consistently miss.

✓

Composition Scheme Compliance Without Slips

Composition dealers have their own rulebook — CMP-08 every quarter, GSTR-4 annually by 30 June, bills of supply instead of tax invoices, and a turnover ceiling that must be watched. We handle each of these correctly so the scheme's simplicity never turns into a violation.

✓

Refund and Export Experience That Shows

From filing the LUT in RFD-11 at the start of each financial year to preparing RFD-01 refund claims with complete annexures, we know what makes a refund file move. Exporters and inverted-duty businesses come to us specifically for this.

✓

Deadline Tracking Done for You

GSTR-1 by the 11th, GSTR-3B by the 20th, CMP-08 by the 18th after each quarter — we maintain a compliance calendar for every client and start chasing your data well before the due date, so late fees never enter the picture.

✓

No Handing Off to Untrained Juniors

Your work is executed by trained GST staff working under direct senior supervision, not passed to interns learning on your file. The person preparing your return understands reverse charge, blocked credits and place of supply, because getting these wrong costs you money.

✓

GSTR-9 and GSTR-9C Handled In-House

The annual return and, where turnover crosses Rs.5 crore, the self-certified reconciliation statement in GSTR-9C are prepared by the same team that filed your monthly returns. Nothing about your year has to be rediscovered or explained to a stranger in December.

How It Works

Our QRMP Filing Process

Scheme setup and assessment

We confirm your eligibility under the Rs.5 crore limit, compare QRMP against monthly filing for your business, and select or continue the scheme on the portal.

Monthly IFF uploads

In the first two months of the quarter we upload your B2B invoices through the Invoice Furnishing Facility by the 13th, so customers see credit in their GSTR-2B promptly.

Monthly tax payment

We compute tax for each of the first two months under the fixed sum or self-assessment method and generate the PMT-06 challan for payment by the 25th.

Quarterly return preparation

After the quarter ends we consolidate all three months of sales and purchases, reconcile input tax credit with GSTR-2B, and prepare GSTR-1 and GSTR-3B.

Filing and reporting

With your confirmation we file quarterly GSTR-1 by the 13th and GSTR-3B by the 22nd, then share acknowledgements and a quarterly tax summary for your records.

Outcomes

What You Get

Practical outcomes our clients measure us by.

★

Reduced Dependence on One Employee

When GST knowledge lives inside a single staff member, their resignation becomes a compliance crisis. With our firm as the standing process, your filings continue uninterrupted regardless of internal staff changes.

★

Annual Returns Without the Year-End Scramble

Because monthly data is reconciled as it happens, GSTR-9 preparation before the 31 December due date becomes a review exercise rather than a painful reconstruction of twelve untidy months.

★

Books and Returns That Agree at Year End

Because turnover in your GST returns is kept aligned with your accounts through the year, income tax filing and statutory audit proceed without the GST-versus-books mismatch queries that now surface routinely through data matching.

★

Fewer Errors at the Billing Counter

Your billing staff are guided on invoice fields, rates and series discipline, so mistakes are prevented where they originate — at the counter — instead of being repaired later in the returns.

★

Correct Tax the First Time

Rates, reverse charge, place of supply and blocked credits are applied correctly at the preparation stage, so you neither overpay tax you do not owe nor underpay and invite demands with penalty later.

★

Supplier Risk Caught Early

We spot suppliers who stop uploading invoices or filing returns and alert you before their default becomes your blocked credit, letting you recover amounts or switch vendors while the exposure is still small.

Why a Specialist Matters

With ChennaiGST vs Doing It Yourself

AspectWith ChennaiGSTDIY / Unattended
Portal credentials and dataLogins handled by a small engaged team under strict confidentiality, with credentials stored securely and never passed onward.Passwords circulating on chats with freelancers and part-timers, and no accountability for who has accessed your business data.
When a notice arrivesA professional drafts the reply in the department's format and files it within the statutory window, such as thirty days for ASMT-11.You face departmental language alone, and a missed reply deadline can convert a simple query into a demand with penalty.
Input tax creditPurchase register matched against GSTR-2B each period, with defaulting suppliers chased so eligible credit is actually captured.Credit claimed from books alone; mismatches with GSTR-2B mean lost credit or excess claims that invite departmental queries.
Due-date trackingA maintained compliance calendar with internal cut-offs days before the 11th and the 20th; we chase you for data, not the other way around.Deadlines remembered from memory or phone alarms; one busy week and the return slips past the due date.
Registration and amendmentsQuery-resistant applications prepared correctly the first time, with supporting documents matched to what proper officers actually verify.Repeated clarification memos and resubmissions, with weeks lost because a rent agreement or premises photograph did not meet expectations.
Goods in transitE-way bills generated correctly and matched to invoices, so consignments pass roadside inspections without detention or penalty.A defective or missing e-way bill can mean detention at a checkpoint, with penalties that dwarf the tax on the consignment.
Case Law & Notifications

What the Department and the Courts Have Said — relevant to Ayanambakkam businesses

We track every notification, circular and judgment that changes a filing position, so your returns and replies reflect the current law.

Case Law

Supreme Court restricts rejection of declared import value without recorded reasons

Century Metal Recycling (P) Ltd v. Union of India — Supreme Court, 2019 (367) ELT 3 (SC), judgment dated 17-05-2019 · 2019-05-17

The Supreme Court held that the transaction value declared by an importer must ordinarily be accepted. Before rejecting it, the proper officer must have a reasonable doubt based on certain material and specific reasons, must communicate those grounds to the importer, and must give an opportunity to explain. A mere suspicion, or reliance on price data without disclosure, is not sufficient to displace the declared value.

How we apply it: A Chennai importer facing enhancement of assessable value should insist on written reasons and the comparable data relied upon before accepting any revision.

Notification

Quarterly Return Monthly Payment scheme opened to turnover up to Rs 5 crore

Notification No. 84/2020-Central Tax · 2020-11-10

Registered persons whose aggregate turnover in the preceding financial year was up to Rs 5 crore, and who had filed the return for the preceding month, were notified as eligible to furnish GSTR-3B quarterly while paying tax monthly. The option is exercised on the common portal for each quarter within a specified window, and once exercised it continues for future periods until it is changed. Crossing Rs 5 crore during a year makes the person ineligible from the next quarter.

How we apply it: Most Chennai traders and professionals qualify for this scheme and can cut their GSTR-3B filings from twelve a year to four.

GST Council

GST slashed on COVID medicines, oxygen equipment and ambulances until 30 September 2021

44th GST Council Meeting (video conferencing) — 12 June 2021 · 2021-06-12

Acting on a Group of Ministers report, the Council cut rates on COVID relief goods until 30 September 2021. Tocilizumab and Amphotericin B moved to nil, while Remdesivir and anti-coagulants such as heparin were reduced to 5 per cent. Medical grade oxygen, oxygen concentrators, ventilators, BiPAP machines, COVID testing kits and specified diagnostic kits all moved from 12 to 5 per cent. Pulse oximeters, hand sanitiser, temperature check equipment and crematorium furnaces moved to 5 per cent, and ambulances from 28 to 12 per cent.

What it means for you: These were temporary rates with a hard expiry, so suppliers must be able to show that concessional invoices fall inside the notified relief period.

FAQs

Frequently Asked Questions

Straight answers from practising GST consultants — based on the CGST Act, current CBIC notifications and day-to-day portal experience.

What is the process for QRMP quarterly filing?
The process runs in clear stages: Scheme setup and assessment; Monthly IFF uploads; Monthly tax payment; Quarterly return preparation. A senior consultant reviews your file at each stage rather than passing it to a data-entry desk, and you receive a confirmation with the filed documents once it is complete. You always know which stage your work is at — we update you on WhatsApp instead of leaving you to follow up.
Do you provide qrmp scheme filing for small businesses and proprietorships in Ayanambakkam?
Yes. A large share of our clients in Ayanambakkam are proprietors, small traders, shop owners, freelancers and family businesses rather than large companies. The fee of Rs.1,499/quarter and the process are the same regardless of size, and we explain the compliance position in plain language — in Tamil or English — so you understand what is being filed on your behalf and why.
I am under QRMP in Chennai. When is my quarterly GSTR-3B due?
For taxpayers registered in Tamil Nadu, which falls in the category of states with the earlier date, the quarterly GSTR-3B under QRMP is due on the 22nd of the month following the quarter. So the return for April to June is due by 22 July, and so on for each quarter. The quarterly GSTR-1 is due by the 13th of the same month. Mark both dates, because late fee and 18 percent interest apply on delays just as they do for monthly filers. Call +91 - 9600 606 444 if you want us to manage the calendar.
What is the QRMP scheme and can my business opt for it?
QRMP stands for Quarterly Return filing and Monthly Payment. Taxpayers with aggregate turnover up to Rs.5 crore in the preceding financial year can opt in. Under the scheme you file GSTR-1 and GSTR-3B once a quarter instead of every month, but you still pay tax monthly through challan PMT-06 for the first two months of the quarter. It reduces filing effort from 24 returns a year to 8, which suits most small traders and service providers in Ayanambakkam. We can check your eligibility and opt you in on the portal.
What is IFF in the QRMP scheme?
The Invoice Furnishing Facility (IFF) is an optional facility for QRMP taxpayers to upload B2B invoices for the first two months of a quarter, by the 13th of the following month, up to Rs.50 lakh of invoice value per month. Invoices uploaded through IFF appear in your buyers' GSTR-2B immediately, so they can claim input tax credit without waiting for your quarterly GSTR-1. If your customers are registered businesses that press for timely credit, using IFF keeps them happy. We file IFF for QRMP clients in Ayanambakkam as part of the standard package.
Is there a late fee if I delay the monthly PMT-06 payment under QRMP?
No late fee applies to a delayed PMT-06 deposit, because late fee is linked only to returns. However, interest at 18 percent per annum is payable on the shortfall for the delay period. Note that if you used the fixed sum method and paid the pre-filled 35 percent amount on time, no interest applies for the first two months even if actual liability was higher, provided the balance is paid in the quarterly GSTR-3B by its due date. Late fee does apply if the quarterly GSTR-1 or GSTR-3B itself is filed late.
How and when can I opt in or out of the QRMP scheme?
The option is exercised on the GST portal under Services, Returns, Opt-in for Quarterly Return. The window for any quarter runs from the first day of the second month of the preceding quarter to the last day of the first month of the quarter you are opting for. For example, to be under QRMP for July to September, opt in between 1 May and 31 July. Once chosen, the option continues for future quarters until you change it or your turnover crosses Rs.5 crore. We handle the opt-in for clients at no extra charge.
Should I choose QRMP or continue monthly filing?
It depends on your customer profile. QRMP means fewer returns and suits businesses selling mainly to consumers or unregistered buyers. However, if most customers are registered businesses, monthly GSTR-1 (or disciplined use of IFF) gets them input tax credit faster, which many corporate buyers insist on. Cash flow also matters: under QRMP you still pay monthly via PMT-06, so there is no tax deferral, only compliance simplification. We review turnover, buyer mix and working capital before recommending either route to businesses in Ayanambakkam. A short call on +91 - 9600 606 444 is enough to decide.
We are constructing our own office building in Ayanambakkam. Can we claim ITC on the materials and contractor bills?
No. Section 17(5)(c) and (d) block credit on works contract services and on goods or services used for construction of immovable property on your own account, even when the building is used for business. The exception is plant and machinery, which covers apparatus and equipment fixed to earth by foundation or structural support, but expressly excludes land, buildings, telecom towers and pipelines laid outside the factory. Note that the Finance Act 2025 retrospectively substituted the phrase plant or machinery with plant and machinery from 1 July 2017, neutralising the wider reading taken in the Safari Retreats ruling. Structure your capitalisation records to separate plant from civil work.
I am selling old machinery on which ITC was claimed. Do I have to pay anything back?
Yes. Under Section 18(6) read with Rule 44, on supply of capital goods on which credit was taken, you must pay the higher of two amounts: the ITC originally availed reduced by five percent per quarter or part thereof from the invoice date, or the tax on the transaction value of the sale. For example, machinery held for three full years has its credit reduced by sixty percent, and you compare the remaining forty percent with the actual tax on the sale price. Refractory bricks, moulds, dies, jigs and fixtures sold as scrap need tax only on transaction value. Compute both figures before invoicing the buyer.
My credit notes this month exceed my sales. Can GSTR-3B show a negative figure?
Yes. Since the January 2024 tax period, the portal permits negative values in Table 3.1 of GSTR-3B where credit notes issued in a month exceed the outward supplies, a situation common in businesses with heavy sales returns. The resulting negative liability is carried forward automatically by the system and adjusted against the liability of subsequent tax periods, so you no longer need to defer reporting credit notes. Ensure the same credit notes are reported in GSTR-1, because GSTR-3B auto-populates from it and manual deviations invite the portal's variance flags. Retailers with seasonal return spikes benefit most from this facility.
What is the GST rate for restaurants and food delivery now?
Standalone restaurants, eateries and cloud kitchens charge 5 percent GST without input tax credit. Restaurants located in hotels where the room tariff exceeds Rs.7,500 per day fall in the specified premises category and charge 18 percent with input tax credit. Food ordered through e-commerce operators such as Swiggy and Zomato is taxed at 5 percent, with the platform liable to pay the tax on restaurant services supplied through it. A restaurant in Ayanambakkam paying 5 percent must remember that GST on its rent, gas and equipment purchases becomes a cost, since credit is barred.
What are OIDAR services under GST and who pays the tax on them?
OIDAR means Online Information Database Access or Retrieval services, delivered over the internet, such as cloud services, e-books, streaming, online advertising and automated e-learning. When a foreign OIDAR provider supplies these to unregistered persons in India, the foreign provider itself must take a simplified registration in Form REG-10 and file monthly return GSTR-5A. From 1 October 2023, the definition was widened, so almost every unregistered Indian recipient is covered. When the Indian recipient is GST-registered, the tax instead falls on the recipient under reverse charge as an import of services.
My footwear shop sells chappals at Rs.300 and shoes at Rs.4,000 on the same bill. How do I invoice this?
One invoice can comfortably carry both rates. Each pair is tested against the Rs.2,500 sale-value threshold independently, so the chappals are billed at 5% and the Rs.4,000 shoes at 18%, as separate line items under their footwear HSN codes in Chapter 64. Your GSTR-1 HSN summary will then show turnover split across the two rates. Ensure the billing software picks the rate from the item price automatically rather than from a fixed product master, because the same article sold at different price points can legitimately fall in different slabs. A quick POS configuration check prevents months of wrong-rate billing; call +91 - 9600 606 444 to arrange one.
Which goods and services attract the new 40 percent GST rate?
The 40 percent rate is confined to luxury and demerit supplies. It covers aerated waters, caffeinated and other sugary carbonated beverages, large cars beyond the small-car specifications, motorcycles above 350cc, yachts, personal aircraft, and specified actionable claims such as betting, casinos and online money gaming. Pan masala and tobacco products continue under their earlier levy structure until the compensation cess obligations are discharged, after which they move to the 40 percent rate as notified. If your business deals in any of these lines, pricing and working capital need careful planning.
What happened to the old 12 percent and 28 percent GST slabs?
Both slabs were abolished with effect from 22 September 2025. Nearly all goods that were at 12 percent moved down to 5 percent, and the bulk of the 28 percent items moved to 18 percent, with only a small set of luxury and demerit goods shifted up to the special 40 percent rate. This means old rate charts, printed price lists and software masters created before September 2025 are unreliable. Before quoting or billing, confirm the current rate against the CBIC rate notifications for your exact HSN code, or call +91 - 9600 606 444 and we will verify it for your product list.
Where is the place of supply for services connected to a building or land?
Services directly relating to immovable property, including those of architects, interior decorators, engineers, surveyors, construction and works contract services, renting, and accommodation in hotels, are supplied where the property is located, under Section 12(3). The recipient's location and registration are irrelevant. So a Ayanambakkam architect designing a factory in Coimbatore charges CGST plus SGST of Tamil Nadu, but for a project in Kochi the place of supply is Kerala and IGST applies. For hotels, the state where the hotel stands is always the place of supply, which is why accommodation is invariably billed with that state's local taxes regardless of where the guest's business is registered.
Is GST applicable on rent for my shop or office premises?
Yes. Renting of commercial property such as shops, offices, godowns and industrial sheds is a taxable supply of services at 18 percent, charged by the landlord under forward charge once the landlord's aggregate turnover, including this rent, crosses Rs.20 lakh. The tenant, if registered and using the premises for business, can claim the GST as input tax credit, since renting is not a blocked credit. Landlords with several small commercial properties often cross the threshold without realising it, because rent from all properties on the same PAN is clubbed. A yearly turnover check protects against retrospective demands.
