Trade Profile and GST Jurisdiction for Bazaar Street, Thiruverkadu

Thiruverkadu draws steady pilgrim crowds to the Devi Karumariamman temple, supporting flower and pooja shops on Sannathi Street, eateries, marriage halls and a fast-growing residential belt along Koladi Road and Thiruverkadu Main Road towards Velappanchavadi on Poonamallee High Road. Marriage hall owners charging 18 per cent GST on hall rent and caterers billing event food are the compliance profiles this town produces most. For businesses here, staying on the right side of GST is not optional — buyers check compliance, and the department's systems match every return. Our firm provides GST Notice Reply to clients across Thiruverkadu and neighbouring Avadi and Maduravoyal, combining Chennai jurisdiction familiarity with disciplined deadline tracking. Whether you run a shop, a service practice or a growing trading concern, we handle the portal work so you can stay focused on the business itself.

GST jurisdiction for Thiruverkadu (PIN 600077): businesses here generally fall under the CGST Chennai Outer Commissionerate. We regularly represent clients from Thiruverkadu before this jurisdiction for registrations, clarifications and notice hearings, and can confirm your exact division and range from your GSTIN. State-jurisdiction cases are handled with the Tamil Nadu Commercial Taxes Department.
GST for Builders and Contractors in Thiruverkadu
Under-construction residential sales are taxed at 1 percent for affordable housing and 5 percent for other units, both without input credit, while commercial works contracts run at 18 percent with credit. Builders must procure at least 80 percent of inputs and input services from registered suppliers each year; any shortfall attracts tax under reverse charge, and cement bought from unregistered dealers is taxed under reverse charge at its full rate regardless of the shortfall test. Development rights and joint development agreements carry their own liability trigger points. A specialist runs the 80-20 computation annually and tracks reverse charge on cement and landowner area sharing so project costing stays accurate.
A GST-focused Chennai practice provides GST Notice Reply in Thiruverkadu with senior review, reconciliation against portal data and written fee quotes from Rs.2,999, rather than template filings from anonymous online portals.
Why Us

Why Bazaar Street, Thiruverkadu Businesses Choose ChennaiGST

Not a bulk-filing portal. A senior consultant knows your file, your jurisdiction and your deadlines.

A Real Local Office You Can Walk Into

We are a Chennai firm with a physical office, not a faceless portal. If you prefer to sit across a table with your papers, you are welcome. Clients from Thiruverkadu regularly visit us for registrations, notice discussions and annual return reviews.

Refund and Export Experience That Shows

From filing the LUT in RFD-11 at the start of each financial year to preparing RFD-01 refund claims with complete annexures, we know what makes a refund file move. Exporters and inverted-duty businesses come to us specifically for this.

GSTR-9 and GSTR-9C Handled In-House

The annual return and, where turnover crosses Rs.5 crore, the self-certified reconciliation statement in GSTR-9C are prepared by the same team that filed your monthly returns. Nothing about your year has to be rediscovered or explained to a stranger in December.

WhatsApp Updates at Every Stage

You receive a WhatsApp message when documents are received, when the draft is ready for your approval, and when the return or application is filed, along with the acknowledgement. You never have to call and ask what is happening with your file.

GST Portal Expertise, Including the Difficult Days

OTP failures, DSC errors, stuck submissions on due-date evenings — we deal with the GST portal daily and know the workarounds. When the site misbehaves on the 20th, our team keeps retrying and escalating so your return still goes through.

Reverse Charge Tracked, Not Forgotten

Freight paid to transporters, advocate fees, imported services and other notified supplies attract GST under reverse charge, with self-invoicing where the supplier is unregistered. We maintain a running RCM check every period, because this is the liability self-filers most consistently miss.

How It Works

Our Notice Reply Process

Notice study

We read the notice line by line, identify the section invoked, the periods covered, the exact information sought and the deadline for response.

Data reconciliation

The figures alleged in the notice are reconciled against your filed returns, GSTR-2B and books, so the reply is grounded in verifiable numbers rather than assertions.

Reply drafting

We draft a professional, point-wise reply addressing every allegation, attaching reconciliations, invoices and legal support, and share the draft with you for approval.

Filing and payment

The approved reply is filed on the portal within the deadline. Where a small genuine liability exists, we advise payment through DRC-03 to limit interest and penalty.

Closure tracking

We monitor the portal for the officer's response, attend to any further queries or hearing dates, and pursue the matter until a closure or order is received.

Outcomes

What You Get

Practical outcomes our clients measure us by.

A Clean GSTIN That Stays Active

Continuous filing protects you from the suspension and cancellation proceedings that hit chronic non-filers, so your registration, e-way bill access and ability to issue tax invoices are never suddenly cut off.

Growth Without Compliance Anxiety

New branches, new product lines and interstate sales all carry GST consequences. With standing professional support, you expand knowing registrations, invoicing and returns will keep pace with the business.

Credit Notes That Actually Reduce Your Tax

Sales returns, discounts and price revisions are adjusted through properly reported credit notes within the statutory window, so you never keep paying tax on turnover you have already reversed.

No More Late Fees

With returns filed ahead of the statutory due dates every period, the Rs.50-per-day GSTR-3B late fee simply stops appearing in your life, and the money stays in your business where it belongs.

Better Cash Flow Planning

You know your expected GST outflow days before the 20th, not on the night of filing. That advance visibility lets you plan payments, collections and bank balances instead of scrambling for funds at the deadline.

Lower Total Cost of Compliance

A fixed professional fee is almost always cheaper than the combination of late fees, interest, lost credit and staff hours that informal, last-minute compliance quietly accumulates over a year.

Why a Specialist Matters

With ChennaiGST vs Doing It Yourself

AspectWith ChennaiGSTDIY / Unattended
Risk of noticesGSTR-1, GSTR-3B and GSTR-2B reconciled before filing, removing the mismatches that trigger most scrutiny notices.Inconsistent figures across returns quietly build a mismatch history that surfaces later as ASMT-10 scrutiny or a demand notice.
When a notice arrivesA professional drafts the reply in the department's format and files it within the statutory window, such as thirty days for ASMT-11.You face departmental language alone, and a missed reply deadline can convert a simple query into a demand with penalty.
Time costRoughly an hour a month to send data and approve drafts; the portal work, reconciliation and follow-up are ours.Hours every month lost to portal errors, JSON files, OTP failures and reworking figures — usually on the due date itself.
Supplier defaultsSuppliers who stop uploading invoices are identified within the period and pursued before their default becomes your blocked credit.Missing supplier invoices surface only when credit is denied, by which time recovering the amount from the vendor is difficult.
Due-date trackingA maintained compliance calendar with internal cut-offs days before the 11th and the 20th; we chase you for data, not the other way around.Deadlines remembered from memory or phone alarms; one busy week and the return slips past the due date.
Refund claimsRFD-01 filed with complete statements and annexures, tracked from ARN to bank credit, with any deficiency memo answered promptly.Incomplete claims bounce back as deficiency memos while the refund sits unclaimed for months and working capital stays blocked.
Law Update

GST Rulings and Notifications That Affect You — relevant to Thiruverkadu businesses

GST law moves through notifications, circulars and court decisions. These are the ones changing how filings are prepared right now.

Circular

ITC time limit for reverse charge supplies runs from the year of self-invoice

Circular No. 211/5/2024-GST · 2024-06-26

For supplies received from unregistered persons that are taxable under reverse charge, CBIC clarified that the Section 16(4) time limit for availing input tax credit is reckoned from the financial year in which the recipient issues the self-invoice, not the year of the supply itself. Where the self-invoice is issued belatedly, the recipient may still claim credit but is liable to interest for delayed tax payment and possible penal action for the documentation delay.

Why this matters: Missed reverse-charge liabilities of earlier years can still be regularised with credit intact by issuing the self-invoice now and paying tax with interest.

Case Law

Delivery address not yet added to the registration is not proof of tax evasion

Algae Labs (P) Ltd v. State Tax Officer-I — Madras High Court (Madurai Bench), W.P.(MD) No. 4958 of 2022, decided 4 April 2022 (C. Saravanan J.) · 2022-04-04

A vehicle carrying laboratory equipment was seized because the consignee address on the invoice did not match the address on the GST registration, and a demand of Rs. 12,46,678 was raised. The Madras High Court allowed the writ petition, finding no attempt to evade tax: the supplier had issued a proper tax invoice and e-way bill, tax compliance during transportation was established, and the address in question was subsequently added to the registration.

Why this matters: Keep your additional places of business updated on the registration, but if a consignment is detained on this ground the penalty can be resisted where no evasion is shown.

Notification

The whole textile chain now sits at 5 per cent

Notification No. 9/2025-Central Tax (Rate), dated 17 September 2025, Schedule I, Chapters 50 to 63 · 2025-09-17

Under the new Schedule I, woven fabrics of silk, wool, cotton, other vegetable fibres, man-made filaments and man-made staple fibres, knitted and crocheted fabrics, sewing thread of man-made filaments and staple fibres, and worn clothing and rags all attract five per cent. Man-made fibre and yarn, which had long been taxed higher than the cloth made from them, were also brought down, largely correcting the inverted duty structure that had troubled the Tamil Nadu textile belt since 2017.

What to do about it: Fabric traders and garment units charge five per cent across the chain, which should shrink credit accumulation and reduce dependence on inverted duty refunds.

Already Holding the Notice? Read It in About a Minute

Upload the PDF to our free GST Notice Analyser. It identifies which of 34 notice types you have, pulls out the DIN, GSTIN and tax period, reads the reply date printed on the notice and tells you plainly whether that date has already passed — along with the documents and reconciliations you will need. No payment, no account. If the notice does not state a date we can read, it says so rather than guessing one for you.

The analyser reports what your notice says and the statutory position for that form. It is not a substitute for a consultant reading your actual records, and a reply should be reviewed before you file it.

FAQs

Frequently Asked Questions

Straight answers from practising GST consultants — based on the CGST Act, current CBIC notifications and day-to-day portal experience.

Are there any hidden charges for GST notice reply?
No. The fee quoted before we start is the fee you pay. Government fees, portal charges or statutory late fees, where they apply, are separate and disclosed to you in advance with the exact amount. We issue a proper GST invoice for our professional fee. If the scope of work changes — for example, an unexpected notice or additional periods — we tell you the revised fee before doing anything further.
Which GST office handles Thiruverkadu businesses?
Businesses in Thiruverkadu (PIN 600077) generally fall under the CGST Chennai Outer Commissionerate, with state-jurisdiction cases handled by the Tamil Nadu Commercial Taxes Department. Your exact division and range can be confirmed from your GSTIN on the GST portal. We regularly appear before this jurisdiction for registrations, clarifications and hearings, so we know the local practice and documentation preferences.
What imprisonment terms does GST law prescribe, and which offences are non-bailable?
Section 132 links punishment to the amount involved: imprisonment up to five years with fine where the tax evaded or credit misused exceeds Rs.5 crore, up to three years where it exceeds Rs.2 crore, and up to one year for the Rs.1 crore to Rs.2 crore band, which after the Finance Act 2023 changes survives only for the offence of issuing invoices without supply. A repeat conviction can attract up to five years regardless of amount. Offences involving supply without invoice, invoices without supply, credit from such invoices, and collected-but-not-deposited tax are cognizable and non-bailable when the amount exceeds Rs.5 crore; everything else is non-cognizable and bailable. Courts take cognizance only with the Commissioner's previous sanction.
Can a person who never filed the returns still be penalised in a fake invoice case?
Yes. Section 122(1A) targets the person at whose instance fake transactions are conducted and who retains the benefit, even if the invoices were issued through some other entity. Where the offence involves supplying without an invoice, issuing invoices without supply, or availing or passing on credit from such invoices, the beneficiary faces a penalty equal to the tax evaded or the credit availed or passed on. This is how masterminds behind billing rackets are penalised alongside the front companies. If your GSTIN in Thiruverkadu has been misused by a third party, respond to any such notice with evidence immediately; call +91 - 9600 606 444.
How much does it cost to get a GST notice reply drafted in Thiruverkadu?
Professional fees depend on the type of notice and the stakes involved. A simple clarification or return-default reply costs far less than a detailed defence to a show cause notice with multiple issues. At ChennaiGST, notice reply services start at Rs.2,999, which covers studying the notice, reconciling your data, drafting a reasoned reply with supporting annexures and filing it on the GST portal. Hearing representation is scoped separately where required. We serve businesses across Thiruverkadu and nearby localities, and the first assessment of your notice is done before we quote. Call +91 - 9600 606 444 with a copy of the notice for a fixed quote.
Can my GST consultant attend a summons hearing on my behalf in Thiruverkadu?
Generally no. A summons under Section 70 requires the person named in it to appear personally, because the officer records a statement on oath, and an authorised representative cannot substitute for you unless the officer specifically permits it. What a consultant can do is equally important: prepare a factual brief, reconcile your returns with books, compile the documents demanded, accompany you to the office where allowed, and file written submissions afterwards. Businesses in Thiruverkadu that walk into a summons unprepared often make admissions that harden into demands later, so invest time in preparation before the appearance date.
Can a GST officer arrest a businessman, and what safeguards exist?
Yes, but only within defined limits. Under Section 69, the Commissioner must record reasons to believe that a person has committed one of the serious specified offences, chiefly fake invoicing and evasion beyond the prosecution thresholds, before authorising arrest. For cognizable, non-bailable cases, the person must be produced before a Magistrate within twenty-four hours; for bailable offences, the Deputy or Assistant Commissioner can grant bail. Departmental instructions require that arrest is not routine and must be justified by factors like flight risk or evidence tampering. If summons in a Thiruverkadu investigation escalate toward arrest talk, engage counsel immediately; call +91 - 9600 606 444 for coordination.
How can I verify whether a GST notice I received is genuine or fake?
Every communication from a central GST officer must carry a Document Identification Number (DIN), which you can verify on the CBIC website. Notices issued through the GST portal carry a Reference Number that can be checked after logging in, and a genuine notice will also appear in your View Notices and Orders or View Additional Notices and Orders tab. As per CBIC instructions, a communication without a DIN is treated as invalid. Be cautious of demands received only on WhatsApp or email asking for payment to personal accounts. If in doubt, call +91 - 9600 606 444 and we will verify the document before you respond.
How do I reply to a DRC-01 show cause notice online?
The reply to a show cause notice summarised in DRC-01 is filed in Form DRC-06 on the GST portal. Log in, open View Additional Notices and Orders, select the case and use the reply option to upload your written submissions and supporting documents, and opt for a personal hearing. A good DRC-06 addresses each allegation separately, annexes reconciliations, invoices and ledgers, cites the relevant provisions and circulars, and raises limitation and jurisdiction objections where available. File within the time allowed in the notice. ChennaiGST drafts DRC-06 replies for Thiruverkadu businesses with a hearing strategy built in from the start.
Should I just pay the amount mentioned in a DRC-01A intimation?
Only after checking the working. DRC-01A is an invitation to settle before a show cause notice, and if you agree with the ascertainment you can pay through DRC-03 and intimate it in Part B, after which no notice is issued for that amount. In a Section 73 matter, paying with interest at this stage means zero penalty, which is a genuine saving. But officers' ascertainments often ignore reconciliations, eligible credits or amounts already paid. Verify the computation, pay only what is truly due, and contest the balance in Part B with reasons. ChennaiGST routinely trims DRC-01A figures for clients before payment.
How will I know my scrutiny reply has been accepted by the GST officer?
If your explanation in ASMT-11 is found acceptable, the officer issues Form ASMT-12 informing you that the discrepancies stand explained and no further action is required on those points. The order appears in your Additional Notices and Orders tab on the portal. Keep the ASMT-12 safely with your reconciliation working papers, because the same period can still come up in a later audit and the closure order is your best shield. If instead the officer is not satisfied, expect a DRC-01A or show cause notice. Many Thiruverkadu clients receive ASMT-12 within weeks when the reply is complete and well-annexed.
What is the GST rate on a works contract for a commercial building?
Under GST, a works contract relating to immovable property is treated wholly as a supply of services, and the standard rate is 18 percent on the contract value, with the contractor eligible for input tax credit on cement, steel and other inputs. This applies to construction, fabrication, erection, repair and renovation contracts for factories, offices and commercial buildings. The old VAT-plus-service-tax splitting of material and labour is gone; one rate applies to the whole consideration. Contractors should also note that free-issue materials supplied by the client can affect valuation, so contract drafting deserves attention before quoting.
Are any goods exempt from GST when transported by a GTA?
Yes. Transport by a GTA of agricultural produce, milk, salt and foodgrains including flours and pulses, organic manure, newspapers and magazines registered with the Registrar of Newspapers, relief materials for victims of calamities, and defence or military equipment is exempt regardless of freight value. Note that the older exemptions for small consignments, Rs.1,500 for a full truckload and Rs.750 for a single consignee, were withdrawn with effect from 18 July 2022, so ordinary cargo enjoys no value-based relief now. Transporters serving agricultural markets should describe the produce accurately on the consignment note to support the exemption.
Is there really a penalty for not displaying my GST number at my shop?
Yes. Rule 18 of the CGST Rules requires every registered person to display the registration certificate in a prominent location at the principal place of business and every additional place, and to display the GSTIN on the name board at the entry of each such premises. There is no separate penalty provision for this lapse, so officers invoke the general penalty under Section 125, which can extend to Rs.25,000 under CGST with a matching state penalty. Inspection teams visiting Thiruverkadu markets routinely check name boards first, so a few hundred rupees of signage is the cheapest compliance in the entire GST law.
Why are so many businesses suddenly receiving GST notices these days?
Enforcement has shifted from manual selection to data analytics. The portal now automatically compares GSTR-1 with GSTR-3B and flags tax shortfalls through DRC-01B intimations under Rule 88C, and compares GSTR-2B with GSTR-3B to flag excess ITC through DRC-01C under Rule 88D. E-way bill, e-invoice, TDS and income tax data are also cross-matched, and limitation deadlines for older financial years have pushed departments to clear pending demands in batches. The practical lesson for Thiruverkadu businesses is that mismatches no longer go unnoticed, so month-wise reconciliation before filing is now essential hygiene rather than a year-end exercise.
How do I decide whether to charge CGST plus SGST or IGST on an invoice?
Compare two data points: the location of the supplier and the place of supply determined under the IGST Act. If both fall in the same state, the supply is intra-state and you charge CGST plus SGST; if they fall in different states, it is inter-state and you charge IGST. The buyer's billing address alone is not the test; the place of supply rules for the specific goods or service govern. Common traps include hotel stays, property-linked services and bill-to ship-to chains, where the place of supply departs from the customer's address. Configuring these rules in your billing software saves Thiruverkadu businesses repeated corrections; call +91 - 9600 606 444 for a setup review.
Can my GST registration be cancelled for not filing returns?
Yes. Under Rule 21A, the department can suspend a GSTIN where returns are not filed for a continuous period, and Section 29 permits cancellation where a regular taxpayer has not filed returns for six months (two quarters for QRMP, and a composition taxpayer defaulting on the annual return beyond three months). During suspension you cannot issue tax invoices or file returns, which freezes the business. If cancellation happens, revocation must be sought through REG-21 within 90 days after clearing all dues. If you have received a suspension notice in Thiruverkadu, call +91 - 9600 606 444 immediately.
Where is the place of supply for services connected to a building or land?
Services directly relating to immovable property, including those of architects, interior decorators, engineers, surveyors, construction and works contract services, renting, and accommodation in hotels, are supplied where the property is located, under Section 12(3). The recipient's location and registration are irrelevant. So a Thiruverkadu architect designing a factory in Coimbatore charges CGST plus SGST of Tamil Nadu, but for a project in Kochi the place of supply is Kerala and IGST applies. For hotels, the state where the hotel stands is always the place of supply, which is why accommodation is invariably billed with that state's local taxes regardless of where the guest's business is registered.
What documents are required for GST notice reply in Thiruverkadu?
For GST notice reply you will generally need: Copy of the notice received, with its reference number and date, GST portal login credentials, GSTR-1 and GSTR-3B filed copies for the periods in question, GSTR-2A and GSTR-2B data for the relevant periods, Sales and purchase registers for the periods covered. The exact list depends on your constitution — proprietorship, partnership, LLP or company — and on the specifics of your case. Send what you have on WhatsApp to +91 - 9600 606 444 and we will confirm within the same working day exactly what else is needed, so nothing is rejected later for a missing paper.
How much does GST notice reply cost in Thiruverkadu?
Our fee for GST notice reply in Thiruverkadu starts at Rs.2,999 and is quoted in full before we begin — there are no hidden charges added later. The fee covers professional work end to end: document review, preparation, filing and follow-up until completion. Government fees or portal charges, where applicable, are separate and always shown to you upfront. For an exact quote based on your turnover and business type, call +91 - 9600 606 444 and a consultant will confirm it on the call.
How long does GST notice reply take in Thiruverkadu?
Draft reply in 3-5 working days. That assumes your documents are complete and there is no departmental query. We start the same day we receive your papers and tell you the realistic completion date upfront rather than an optimistic one. Where the GST portal or the officer causes delay — clarifications, physical verification or system issues — we track it daily and keep you informed on WhatsApp.
