Trade Profile and GST Jurisdiction for Dasspuram, Chetpet

GST does not distinguish between a large showroom and a small service unit — the due dates and matching systems apply equally to both. Chetpet pairs premium healthcare with corporate offices: specialty hospitals and clinics cluster around Spur Tank Road while cafes, boutiques and professional firms occupy Harrington Road and McNichols Road. Landlords letting commercial space and clinics with mixed exempt and taxable income dominate the compliance workload, particularly GST on commercial rentals and input tax credit reversal under Rules 42 and 43. That is why our New GST Registration engagements in Chetpet follow the same discipline whatever the client's size: written checklists, reconciliation before filing and every acknowledgement archived. Businesses from Kilpauk and Egmore run on the same process, entirely over WhatsApp if they prefer.

GST jurisdiction for Chetpet (PIN 600031): businesses here generally fall under the CGST Chennai North Commissionerate. We regularly represent clients from Chetpet before this jurisdiction for registrations, clarifications and notice hearings, and can confirm your exact division and range from your GSTIN. State-jurisdiction cases are handled with the Tamil Nadu Commercial Taxes Department.
GST for IT and SaaS Companies in Chetpet
IT and SaaS services are taxed at 18 percent domestically, but the real complexity is qualifying overseas billing as export under Section 2(6) of the IGST Act: the recipient must be outside India, consideration must arrive in convertible foreign exchange or INR where RBI permits, and the Indian entity and foreign recipient must not be mere establishments of the same person. Marketing or support arms serving a foreign parent risk classification as intermediaries under Section 13(8), making the place of supply India and the income taxable. Supplies to SEZ units are zero-rated with proper endorsements. A specialist structures contracts and invoicing so export status survives departmental scrutiny.
Yes, professional New GST Registration is available in Chetpet starting at Rs.1,499. The process is handled end to end — documents over WhatsApp, senior-reviewed preparation, portal filing and same-day acknowledgement sharing.
Why Us

Why Dasspuram, Chetpet Businesses Choose ChennaiGST

Not a bulk-filing portal. A senior consultant knows your file, your jurisdiction and your deadlines.

Proactive Alerts Before Problems Become Notices

If your GSTR-1 and GSTR-3B start drifting apart, if a large supplier stops filing, or if your turnover approaches the e-invoice threshold, we flag it to you immediately. Early warnings from our side are cheaper than departmental letters later.

Composition Scheme Compliance Without Slips

Composition dealers have their own rulebook — CMP-08 every quarter, GSTR-4 annually by 30 June, bills of supply instead of tax invoices, and a turnover ceiling that must be watched. We handle each of these correctly so the scheme's simplicity never turns into a violation.

Refund and Export Experience That Shows

From filing the LUT in RFD-11 at the start of each financial year to preparing RFD-01 refund claims with complete annexures, we know what makes a refund file move. Exporters and inverted-duty businesses come to us specifically for this.

Fast, Clean Registrations and Amendments

New GSTIN applications, core field amendments through REG-14, additional places of business — we prepare complete, query-resistant applications the first time. Clean paperwork is the difference between smooth approval and weeks lost answering clarification memos from the department.

Complete Documentation, Properly Archived

Every acknowledgement, challan, computation sheet and filed return is saved and shared with you in an organised folder. When a bank, buyer or GST officer asks for a document from two years ago, it reaches you the same day without any scrambling.

E-Commerce Seller Reconciliation, Including TCS

Sellers on Amazon, Flipkart and other marketplaces face a three-way match between marketplace reports, GSTR-1 and the TCS the operator deposits against your GSTIN. We reconcile all three every period and accept the TCS credit, so sellers in Chetpet never leave marketplace deductions unclaimed.

How It Works

Our GST Registration Process

Document collection

You share PAN, Aadhaar, photographs, address proof and bank details over WhatsApp or email. We review each document against portal requirements and flag anything that could trigger an officer query.

Application preparation

We draft Form GST REG-01 with the correct business constitution, principal place of business, HSN or SAC codes and authorised signatory details, then share a summary for your confirmation.

Filing and Aadhaar authentication

The application is filed on the GST portal and we guide the authorised signatory through Aadhaar OTP authentication, which speeds up approval and usually avoids physical verification of premises.

Query handling

We track the ARN daily. If the officer issues a notice in Form REG-03 seeking clarification, we draft and file the reply in Form REG-04 within the permitted time.

GSTIN delivery and handover

Once approved, we download your registration certificate in Form REG-06, help set up portal login credentials, and brief you on invoice format, return due dates and e-way bill obligations.

A Professional Face on Every Invoice

Correct, complete tax invoices signal a well-run business to customers, vendors and banks alike, quietly strengthening your credibility in every transaction where your paperwork is seen.

The Lowest Tax Position the Law Allows

Your scheme choice — regular, composition or QRMP — is re-examined as turnover and margins change, so you are always paying under the structure that legitimately costs your business the least.

A Written Trail for Every Decision

Tax positions, rate choices and credit calls are documented as they are made, so if a question arises years later, the reasoning and evidence are on file rather than in someone's fading memory.

Faster GST Refunds

Complete RFD-01 applications with proper statements and annexures move through the system faster and attract fewer deficiency memos, which means export and inverted-duty refunds reach your bank account sooner.

Tax Paid Under the Right Head

Getting IGST versus CGST and SGST right at the invoice stage spares you the painful cycle of paying the correct head again and pursuing a refund of the amount paid under the wrong one.

Why a Specialist Matters

With ChennaiGST vs Doing It Yourself

AspectWith ChennaiGSTDIY / Unattended
Due-date trackingA maintained compliance calendar with internal cut-offs days before the 11th and the 20th; we chase you for data, not the other way around.Deadlines remembered from memory or phone alarms; one busy week and the return slips past the due date.
When a notice arrivesA professional drafts the reply in the department's format and files it within the statutory window, such as thirty days for ASMT-11.You face departmental language alone, and a missed reply deadline can convert a simple query into a demand with penalty.
Registration and amendmentsQuery-resistant applications prepared correctly the first time, with supporting documents matched to what proper officers actually verify.Repeated clarification memos and resubmissions, with weeks lost because a rent agreement or premises photograph did not meet expectations.
Annual return preparationMonthly reconciliations roll naturally into GSTR-9, filed comfortably before 31 December with figures already agreed through the year.Twelve months of unmatched data reconstructed in December, with differences discovered too late to be corrected cleanly.
Input tax creditPurchase register matched against GSTR-2B each period, with defaulting suppliers chased so eligible credit is actually captured.Credit claimed from books alone; mismatches with GSTR-2B mean lost credit or excess claims that invite departmental queries.
Goods in transitE-way bills generated correctly and matched to invoices, so consignments pass roadside inspections without detention or penalty.A defective or missing e-way bill can mean detention at a checkpoint, with penalties that dwarf the tax on the consignment.

Portal Advisory

CBIC answers on what counts as pre-packaged and labelled

CBIC Frequently Asked Questions on GST on pre-packaged and labelled goods, dated 17 July 2022 · 2022-07-17

A day before the change took effect, the Tax Research Unit issued FAQs explaining that the expression takes its meaning from the Legal Metrology Act, 2009 and covers commodities intended for retail sale in packs of up to twenty-five kilograms or twenty-five litres that must bear statutory declarations. A single package above that limit is not covered, nor are packs supplied to an industrial or institutional consumer. Loose sale from a large pack by a retailer does not attract the levy.

How we apply it: A fifty-kilogram rice bag sold as one package stays outside the levy, but the moment it is repacked into labelled retail bags of twenty-five kilograms or less, five per cent applies.

Notification

IGST exemptions for services, including several export-facing entries

Notification No. 09/2017-Integrated Tax (Rate) dated 28.06.2017 · 2017-06-28

The integrated tax equivalent of the services exemption list. Besides mirroring the domestic exemptions, it carries entries that only arise in a cross-border context, such as services received from a provider located in a non-taxable territory by specified recipients, and certain services relating to transportation of goods to a place outside India. Courts have relied on its Entry 13, covering renting of residential dwellings for use as residence, when deciding hostel and long-stay accommodation disputes.

How we apply it: Chennai exporters and importers of services should check this notification before assuming an inter-State or cross-border service is taxable.

GST Council

Textile rate increase deferred on the eve of implementation; existing rates continue

46th GST Council Meeting, New Delhi — 31 December 2021 · 2021-12-31

The 46th meeting was convened on the last day of 2021 with essentially one outcome. The Council recommended deferring the decision to change the rates in textiles that had been recommended at the 45th meeting, so that the existing rates in the textile sector would continue beyond 1 January 2022. The reversal came after sustained representations from textile states and the trade that the increase from 5 to 12 per cent would raise costs for consumers and unorganised weavers. The footwear rate increase, however, went ahead as planned.

What it means for you: Textile traders in Chennai and across Tamil Nadu continued at five per cent from January 2022, but footwear moved to twelve per cent, so the two sectors diverged from that date.

FAQs

Frequently Asked Questions

Straight answers from practising GST consultants — based on the CGST Act, current CBIC notifications and day-to-day portal experience.

Are there any hidden charges for new GST registration?
No. The fee quoted before we start is the fee you pay. Government fees, portal charges or statutory late fees, where they apply, are separate and disclosed to you in advance with the exact amount. We issue a proper GST invoice for our professional fee. If the scope of work changes — for example, an unexpected notice or additional periods — we tell you the revised fee before doing anything further.
What documents are required for new GST registration in Chetpet?
For new GST registration you will generally need: PAN card of the proprietor, firm or company, Aadhaar card of proprietor, partners or directors, Passport-size photograph of proprietor, partners or directors, Business address proof such as electricity bill or property tax receipt, Rent agreement and owner NOC if premises are rented. The exact list depends on your constitution — proprietorship, partnership, LLP or company — and on the specifics of your case. Send what you have on WhatsApp to +91 - 9600 606 444 and we will confirm within the same working day exactly what else is needed, so nothing is rejected later for a missing paper.
I run a boutique in Chetpet doing tailoring and also selling dress materials. How is GST charged?
Tailoring service attracts a concessional GST rate of 5%. The dress materials and fabrics you sell are goods at 5%, and readymade pieces follow the Rs.2,500 threshold, with 5% up to that value and 18% above it. Because your boutique supplies both goods and services, the Rs.20 lakh service-supplier threshold governs when registration becomes mandatory, not the Rs.40 lakh goods limit. Bill stitching charges and material separately so each takes its correct rate and your turnover streams stay clean. Many boutiques in Chetpet register voluntarily to serve corporate and export orders; call +91 - 9600 606 444 to decide.
Does a coaching centre in Chetpet have to charge GST on its fees?
Yes, once registration is required. Commercial coaching and training, including NEET, JEE, banking and UPSC preparation, is taxable at 18 percent; the education exemptions cover only specified institutions, not private coaching. A coaching centre must register when aggregate fee collections cross Rs.20 lakh in a financial year, and within thirty days of crossing it. Fees collected in advance for a full course also attract tax at the time of receipt, which surprises many institutes during their first year. Our team registers coaching institutes across Chetpet and sets up their invoicing correctly from day one; call +91 - 9600 606 444 to begin.
What is the GST registration limit for a trader selling goods in Tamil Nadu?
In Tamil Nadu, a person engaged exclusively in the supply of goods must register for GST once aggregate turnover in a financial year crosses Rs.40 lakh. Aggregate turnover is computed PAN-wide across India and includes exempt supplies and exports, not just taxable sales. The Rs.40 lakh relaxation does not apply if you make inter-state taxable supplies of goods, sell through an e-commerce operator that collects TCS, or deal in certain notified items, in which case registration becomes mandatory earlier. If your Chetpet shop is approaching the limit, apply within thirty days of crossing it.
What is the government fee for GST registration? How much will it cost me?
The Government charges no fee at all for GST registration; applying on the GST portal is completely free. What you pay a professional for is accuracy and speed: correctly classifying your business, choosing the right HSN or SAC codes, preparing compliant premises proof, completing Aadhaar authentication, and handling any REG-03 clarification so the application is not rejected. Our registration package for businesses in Chetpet is Rs.1,499, covering document preparation, filing, follow-up until GSTIN allotment, and basic guidance on your first return due dates. Beware of anyone claiming a government charge exists; there is none.
We have branches in three states. What is ISD registration and do we need it?
An Input Service Distributor is a head office that receives invoices for common input services, such as audit fees or software subscriptions, and distributes the input tax credit to branches with separate GSTINs. ISD requires a separate registration in Form REG-01, distinct from your normal registration on the same PAN, and the ISD files monthly GSTR-6 by the 13th to distribute credit. Following amendments made effective from 1 April 2025, distributing common input service credit through the ISD mechanism is mandatory for multi-state businesses, so head offices in Chetpet with out-of-state branches should obtain ISD registration without delay.
I am a consultant in Chetpet with clients in Mumbai and Delhi. Does inter-state billing force GST registration?
Not for services. Although Section 24 makes registration compulsory for inter-state taxable supplies, Notification 10/2017-Integrated Tax specifically exempts persons making inter-state supplies of services from mandatory registration until aggregate turnover crosses Rs.20 lakh. So a freelancer or consultant in Chetpet can bill clients anywhere in India without registering, as long as total turnover stays within the threshold. Note that this relief is only for services; inter-state supply of goods still requires registration from the first rupee. Once you do cross Rs.20 lakh, you must register within thirty days. Call +91 - 9600 606 444 to check your position.
What information should I share with my consultant for handling a GST notice?
Share the complete notice with all annexures, your GST portal login for extracting filed returns, and books of account for the periods in question: sales and purchase registers, ITC ledger, bank statements and relevant invoices. Also disclose the full history, including earlier notices, replies already filed, DRC-03 payments made and any personal hearing attended, because a consultant defending you with partial facts can be blindsided at the hearing. If the matter involves specific transactions, keep agreements, transport documents and e-way bills ready. ChennaiGST provides Chetpet clients a simple checklist on engagement so nothing is missed; call +91 - 9600 606 444 to get it.
What is GSTR-2B and why does my consultant match it before filing?
GSTR-2B is an auto-drafted statement of the input tax credit available to you, generated on the 14th of every month from the GSTR-1 and IFF filings of your suppliers. Input tax credit in GSTR-3B can only be claimed for invoices appearing in GSTR-2B, so matching your purchase register against it before filing is essential. If a supplier has not uploaded an invoice, the credit must be deferred and the supplier followed up. This monthly reconciliation is included in our return filing service for businesses in Chetpet.
As a regular taxpayer selling both exempt and taxable groceries, can I claim full credit on shop expenses?
No. Where a business makes both taxable and exempt supplies, input tax credit on common expenses such as rent, electricity for billing systems, software and transport must be apportioned under Rule 42, and the portion attributable to exempt turnover reversed every month in GSTR-3B, with an annual true-up. Credit on goods purchased exclusively for exempt resale, like bulk loose grains, is not available at all, while credit relating solely to taxable lines is fully claimable. A supermarket in Chetpet with a large loose-goods section can see meaningful monthly reversals, so build the Rule 42 working into your filing routine. Call +91 - 9600 606 444 for a template.
How is the place of supply decided when I sell goods?
Section 10 of the IGST Act gives the tests. Where the sale involves movement of goods, the place of supply is the location where the movement terminates for delivery to the recipient, whoever arranges the transport. Where there is no movement, it is the location of the goods at the time of delivery, which covers over-the-counter sales and sales of installed machinery in place. Where goods are assembled or installed at site, the place of supply is the site of installation. Getting this right decides whether you charge CGST plus SGST or IGST, and a Chetpet seller delivering to a Bengaluru buyer charges IGST because delivery terminates in Karnataka.
What is the GST treatment for an event management company handling corporate events?
Event management services attract 18 percent with full input tax credit. Place of supply rules deserve attention: for organising an event for a registered client, the place of supply is the client's location, so a Chennai company organising a Goa offsite for a Bengaluru-registered client charges IGST to Karnataka. For unregistered clients, the place of supply is where the event is actually held. Admission tickets are taxed where the event takes place. Getting the state wrong means the client's credit is jeopardised and the tax may need repayment under the correct head, so event companies serving multi-state clients should map each contract before invoicing.
What is the difference between ISD and cross-charge, and when is each used?
They solve different problems. The Input Service Distributor mechanism distributes credit on third-party input services received at the head office but consumed by branches, such as an audit fee or software licence billed centrally; the ISD passes the credit itself through ISD invoices and GSTR-6, without charging tax again. Cross-charge applies where the head office performs a service for branches using its own resources; here the head office makes an outward supply, issues a tax invoice with tax, and the branch claims ITC. With ISD distribution mandatory for common third-party input services from 1 April 2025, businesses must now run both mechanisms side by side, each for its correct category.
Where is the place of supply for services connected to a building or land?
Services directly relating to immovable property, including those of architects, interior decorators, engineers, surveyors, construction and works contract services, renting, and accommodation in hotels, are supplied where the property is located, under Section 12(3). The recipient's location and registration are irrelevant. So a Chetpet architect designing a factory in Coimbatore charges CGST plus SGST of Tamil Nadu, but for a project in Kochi the place of supply is Kerala and IGST applies. For hotels, the state where the hotel stands is always the place of supply, which is why accommodation is invariably billed with that state's local taxes regardless of where the guest's business is registered.
What is the difference between a GST credit note and a commercial credit note?
A GST credit note is issued under Section 34, is reported in GSTR-1, and reduces your output tax, with the buyer reversing equivalent input credit. A commercial or financial credit note adjusts only the money owed between the parties; it carries no GST, is not reported in returns, and leaves everyone's tax position untouched. Businesses use commercial credit notes when the 30 November deadline has passed, or for post-supply discounts that do not satisfy the statutory conditions for a tax adjustment. Choosing the wrong instrument is a frequent audit finding, so decide the type before the note is issued.
How much time do I get to raise an invoice for services?
A tax invoice for services must be issued within thirty days from the date of supply of the service. For banks, insurers, financial institutions and NBFCs, the limit is forty-five days. Where services are supplied continuously, the invoice follows the contract: if the due date of payment is ascertainable, invoice on or before that date; if not, invoice when payment is received; and if payment is linked to completion of an event or milestone, invoice on or before its completion. Consultants and agencies that bill quarterly should check their contracts against these rules, since late invoicing defers nothing legally.
Why are so many businesses suddenly receiving GST notices these days?
Enforcement has shifted from manual selection to data analytics. The portal now automatically compares GSTR-1 with GSTR-3B and flags tax shortfalls through DRC-01B intimations under Rule 88C, and compares GSTR-2B with GSTR-3B to flag excess ITC through DRC-01C under Rule 88D. E-way bill, e-invoice, TDS and income tax data are also cross-matched, and limitation deadlines for older financial years have pushed departments to clear pending demands in batches. The practical lesson for Chetpet businesses is that mismatches no longer go unnoticed, so month-wise reconciliation before filing is now essential hygiene rather than a year-end exercise.
