Trade Profile and GST Jurisdiction for Thirusulam

Thirusulam faces Chennai International Airport across GST Road, its quarried hill topped by the Tirusoolanathar Temple and its frontage taken by freight forwarders, air cargo agents, customs brokers, cab fleets and budget lodges near Tirusulam railway station and the Airport Flyover. Zero-rated export freight, place-of-supply calls on international transport and reverse charge on GTA services make these filings unusually technical. We have supported businesses of exactly this profile with E-Invoice Setup across Thirusulam for years, along with clients from Meenambakkam and Pallavaram. The engagement is simple: one point of contact, a clear fee, documents over WhatsApp or in person at our Chennai office, and senior review before anything is submitted on the portal. What you get in return is clean filings, archived records and far fewer reasons for the department to write to you.

GST jurisdiction for Thirusulam (PIN 600043): businesses here generally fall under the CGST Chennai Outer Commissionerate. We regularly represent clients from Thirusulam before this jurisdiction for registrations, clarifications and notice hearings, and can confirm your exact division and range from your GSTIN. State-jurisdiction cases are handled with the Tamil Nadu Commercial Taxes Department.
GST for IT and SaaS Companies in Thirusulam
IT and SaaS services are taxed at 18 percent domestically, but the real complexity is qualifying overseas billing as export under Section 2(6) of the IGST Act: the recipient must be outside India, consideration must arrive in convertible foreign exchange or INR where RBI permits, and the Indian entity and foreign recipient must not be mere establishments of the same person. Marketing or support arms serving a foreign parent risk classification as intermediaries under Section 13(8), making the place of supply India and the income taxable. Supplies to SEZ units are zero-rated with proper endorsements. A specialist structures contracts and invoicing so export status survives departmental scrutiny.
To get E-Invoice Setup in Thirusulam, share your documents by WhatsApp or visit the office, approve the prepared draft, and the filing is completed on the GST portal from Rs.1,999.
Why Us

Why Thirusulam Businesses Choose ChennaiGST

Not a bulk-filing portal. A senior consultant knows your file, your jurisdiction and your deadlines.

Job Work Movements Tracked Through ITC-04

Goods sent to job workers must move on delivery challans, return within the statutory period, and be reported in ITC-04. We track every outward and return leg for manufacturing clients in Thirusulam, so inputs sent out for processing never quietly convert into a deemed supply carrying tax and interest.

GSTR-9 and GSTR-9C Handled In-House

The annual return and, where turnover crosses Rs.5 crore, the self-certified reconciliation statement in GSTR-9C are prepared by the same team that filed your monthly returns. Nothing about your year has to be rediscovered or explained to a stranger in December.

E-Commerce Seller Reconciliation, Including TCS

Sellers on Amazon, Flipkart and other marketplaces face a three-way match between marketplace reports, GSTR-1 and the TCS the operator deposits against your GSTIN. We reconcile all three every period and accept the TCS credit, so sellers in Thirusulam never leave marketplace deductions unclaimed.

Reverse Charge Tracked, Not Forgotten

Freight paid to transporters, advocate fees, imported services and other notified supplies attract GST under reverse charge, with self-invoicing where the supplier is unregistered. We maintain a running RCM check every period, because this is the liability self-filers most consistently miss.

Every Return Reviewed by a Senior Consultant

No filing leaves our desk on a junior's judgement alone. A senior GST practitioner reviews your figures, ITC claims and tax computation before submission, so errors are caught at our table and not by the department months later through a notice.

Waiver and Amnesty Windows Applied for You

Whenever the GST Council notifies a late-fee waiver or an amnesty window for pending returns or old demands, we check every client's history against it and act within the deadline. Relief that businesses in Thirusulam would otherwise read about after it lapsed reaches our clients in time.

How It Works

Our E-Invoice Setup Process

Applicability check

We review aggregate turnover for each year from 2017-18 to confirm whether and from when the e-invoice mandate applies to your GSTIN.

IRP registration

Your GSTIN is enabled for e-invoicing and registered on the Invoice Registration Portal, with API credentials or offline tool access set up as suits your volume.

Software configuration

We configure your existing billing software to generate IRNs, mapping mandatory fields such as HSN codes, buyer GSTIN, place of supply and document type correctly.

Testing and training

Test invoices are pushed through the sandbox, common rejection errors are demonstrated, and your billing staff are trained on generation, cancellation within 24 hours, and reprints.

Go-live and support

We supervise the first live invoices, verify auto-population into GSTR-1, and stay available for a month to resolve any IRN rejection or data issue.

Outcomes

What You Get

Practical outcomes our clients measure us by.

No Money Idling in the Cash Ledger

Excess balances parked in the electronic cash ledger are identified during regular ledger reviews and either utilised against upcoming liability or claimed back as a refund, instead of sitting interest-free with the government.

Tax Paid Under the Right Head

Getting IGST versus CGST and SGST right at the invoice stage spares you the painful cycle of paying the correct head again and pursuing a refund of the amount paid under the wrong one.

No Interest Outflows at 18 Percent

Interest on delayed GST payment runs at 18 percent per annum, which is costlier than most working capital finance. Timely computation and payment through our calendar keeps that meter permanently at zero.

Notices Answered Within the Time Limit

Statutory windows such as thirty days for an ASMT-11 reply are tracked from the day a notice arrives, so responses go in on time, complete, and with your best case properly presented.

Peace of Mind Around Due Dates

The 11th and the 20th stop being days of dread. You approve a prepared draft, we file, and the acknowledgement lands on your WhatsApp — month after month, without drama.

Fewer Errors at the Billing Counter

Your billing staff are guided on invoice fields, rates and series discipline, so mistakes are prevented where they originate — at the counter — instead of being repaired later in the returns.

Why a Specialist Matters

With ChennaiGST vs Doing It Yourself

AspectWith ChennaiGSTDIY / Unattended
Portal credentials and dataLogins handled by a small engaged team under strict confidentiality, with credentials stored securely and never passed onward.Passwords circulating on chats with freelancers and part-timers, and no accountability for who has accessed your business data.
Registration and amendmentsQuery-resistant applications prepared correctly the first time, with supporting documents matched to what proper officers actually verify.Repeated clarification memos and resubmissions, with weeks lost because a rent agreement or premises photograph did not meet expectations.
Due-date trackingA maintained compliance calendar with internal cut-offs days before the 11th and the 20th; we chase you for data, not the other way around.Deadlines remembered from memory or phone alarms; one busy week and the return slips past the due date.
Refund claimsRFD-01 filed with complete statements and annexures, tracked from ARN to bank credit, with any deficiency memo answered promptly.Incomplete claims bounce back as deficiency memos while the refund sits unclaimed for months and working capital stays blocked.
Record keepingEvery return, challan, acknowledgement and working paper archived in an organised folder, retrievable in minutes years later.Documents scattered across email, downloads and old phones; assembling records for a bank or an audit takes days.
Annual return preparationMonthly reconciliations roll naturally into GSTR-9, filed comfortably before 31 December with figures already agreed through the year.Twelve months of unmatched data reconstructed in December, with differences discovered too late to be corrected cleanly.

AAR Ruling

Printing leaflets on the printer's own paper attracts 18 percent

Coronation Arts Crafts - AAR Tamil Nadu, Advance Ruling No. 19/ARA/2022, dated 31 May 2022 · 2022-05-31

A printing house printed leaflets and similar material using content supplied by the customer but paper, ink and other physical inputs of its own. It asked for the correct classification and rate. The Authority held that this is a composite supply in which the printing service is the principal supply, and the supply is therefore taxable at 18 percent. The customer supplying only the content or artwork did not alter the classification.

Why this matters: A Chennai printer supplying its own paper should charge 18 percent on job printed leaflets instead of assuming a lower book rate.

Notification

Dynamic QR code made compulsory on B2C invoices of large suppliers

Notification No. 14/2020-Central Tax · 2020-03-21

Registered persons with aggregate turnover above Rs 500 crore were required to print a dynamic quick response code on invoices issued to unregistered consumers, so that the customer could scan and pay digitally. Where the payment is made through a prescribed dynamic QR code, the cross-reference of that payment on the invoice is treated as compliance. The same exclusions as e-invoicing apply. The start date was pushed from 1 April 2020 to 1 October 2020 and then to 1 December 2020.

What to do about it: Only very large retailers are covered, so an ordinary Chennai shop or restaurant has no dynamic QR code obligation on its cash-counter bills.

Portal Advisory

30-day e-invoice reporting window extended to Rs 10 crore taxpayers

GSTN Advisory, November 2024 — 30-day IRP reporting limit for AATO Rs 10 crore and above · 2024-11

GSTN advised that from 1 April 2025, taxpayers with annual aggregate turnover of Rs 10 crore and above cannot report e-invoices on the Invoice Registration Portals beyond 30 days from the document date. The restriction, earlier applicable only to very large taxpayers of Rs 100 crore and above, covers invoices, credit notes and debit notes. The IRP validation simply rejects documents older than 30 days, so late reporting becomes impossible.

Practical effect: Automate same-day or same-week IRN generation, because an invoice missed beyond 30 days cannot be e-invoiced at all and endangers the buyer's ITC.

FAQs

Frequently Asked Questions

Straight answers from practising GST consultants — based on the CGST Act, current CBIC notifications and day-to-day portal experience.

What documents are required for e-invoice setup in Thirusulam?
For e-invoice setup you will generally need: GST portal login credentials, Turnover figures for financial years from 2017-18 onwards, Details of the billing or accounting software currently in use, Sample sales invoice with current format, HSN codes and rate list of goods or services supplied. The exact list depends on your constitution — proprietorship, partnership, LLP or company — and on the specifics of your case. Send what you have on WhatsApp to +91 - 9600 606 444 and we will confirm within the same working day exactly what else is needed, so nothing is rejected later for a missing paper.
What is the process for e-invoice setup?
The process runs in clear stages: Applicability check; IRP registration; Software configuration; Testing and training. A senior consultant reviews your file at each stage rather than passing it to a data-entry desk, and you receive a confirmation with the filed documents once it is complete. You always know which stage your work is at — we update you on WhatsApp instead of leaving you to follow up.
Is there a deadline for uploading invoices to the IRP after issuing them?
For taxpayers with aggregate annual turnover of Rs.10 crore and above, the IRP rejects invoices reported more than thirty days after the invoice date; this thirty-day window applies from 1 April 2025 and covers invoices as well as credit and debit notes. Smaller mandated taxpayers currently have no system-enforced limit, but best practice is to generate the IRN at the time of invoicing itself, since a B2B invoice without an IRN is not valid at all. Real-time generation through your accounting software removes this risk entirely, which is why integrated setup matters.
Is e-invoicing compulsory for my business, and at what turnover?
E-invoicing is mandatory for registered businesses whose aggregate turnover has exceeded Rs.5 crore in any financial year from 2017-18 onwards, for their B2B supplies and exports. The Rs.5 crore limit applies from 1 August 2023. Once you cross the threshold in any year, the mandate applies from the start of the next financial year and continues permanently, even if turnover later falls. Note that turnover is computed PAN-wide across all GSTINs, not branch-wise. If your books show you crossing Rs.5 crore this year, plan the IRP setup in advance rather than scrambling in April.
What exactly are the IRN and QR code on an e-invoice?
When you report an invoice to the Invoice Registration Portal, it validates the data and returns a unique 64-character Invoice Reference Number, which is a hash generated from your GSTIN, the document number and the financial year, along with a digitally signed QR code. The QR code embeds key details such as both GSTINs, invoice number and date, taxable value and the IRN, allowing anyone to verify the invoice offline. A B2B invoice issued by a mandated taxpayer without an IRN is not a valid tax invoice, and the printed copy must carry the QR code.
How do I register on the Invoice Registration Portal and set up e-invoicing?
Registration is done on the e-invoice portal einvoice1.gst.gov.in using your GSTIN; the system verifies you through an OTP sent to your GST-registered mobile and email, after which you create IRP login credentials. Businesses already registered on the e-way bill portal can use the same credentials. You then choose how invoices will be reported: direct portal entry, the free offline utility, or API integration through your accounting software such as Tally or a GSP. ChennaiGST handles the complete setup including software configuration and staff training for businesses in Thirusulam for Rs.1,999; call +91 - 9600 606 444 to schedule it.
Can I run different invoice series for different branches or types of sales?
Yes. The rules expressly permit one or multiple series of invoice numbers, so you can run separate series for each branch, counter or category, for example RET/001 for retail billing and EXP/001 for exports, under the same GSTIN. Each series must independently be consecutive and unique within the financial year, and all series must be reported in the documents table of GSTR-1. For businesses under the e-invoicing mandate, the IRP validates that a document number is not repeated within the year for the GSTIN, so overlapping series will cause IRN rejections. We help Thirusulam businesses design clean series structures; call +91 - 9600 606 444.
Are any businesses exempt from e-invoicing even above Rs.5 crore turnover?
Yes. CBIC has exempted certain categories irrespective of turnover: banks, insurers and other financial institutions including NBFCs, goods transport agencies transporting goods by road, suppliers of passenger transportation services, admission to cinema exhibitions in multiplexes, SEZ units, and government departments and local authorities. Note that SEZ developers are covered by the mandate even though SEZ units are exempt. If you fall in an exempt category you should still verify vendor e-invoices you receive, because your ITC depends on their compliance. When in doubt about applicability, call +91 - 9600 606 444 for a quick assessment of your registrations.
My bank account was debited for a GST challan but the cash ledger shows nothing. What do I do?
This is a payment-communication failure between the bank and the portal, and the prescribed remedy is Form PMT-07, filed under Services, then Payments, then Grievance against Payment. Quote the CPIN, bank name and debit details; the system takes up the discrepancy with the bank, and the amount either credits your ledger once the bank confirms, or is re-credited to your account if the transaction failed. Do not pay twice immediately; most cases resolve within a day or two. If a return due date is pressing, generate a fresh challan and later seek refund of the duplicate. Thirusulam clients can call +91 - 9600 606 444 for urgent help.
Is ITC available on food, catering and canteen expenses for our factory staff?
Section 17(5)(b) blocks credit on food, beverages and outdoor catering, but with two useful exceptions. First, where you use catering as an input for making an outward supply of the same category, such as a caterer subcontracting another caterer, credit is allowed. Second, where providing the facility is obligatory for the employer under any law, credit is allowed; the classic case is a statutory canteen required under the Factories Act for factories employing more than 250 workers. Even then, credit is typically restricted to the cost borne by the employer, not amounts recovered from employees. Factories around Thirusulam should keep the statutory obligation documented in their credit file.
Can I reply to a GST notice myself, or should I hire a professional?
For simple defaults, such as a GSTR-3A non-filing notice where you only need to file the pending return, you can manage yourself. For anything involving discrepancies or demands, ASMT-10, DRC-01A, DRC-01 or audit observations, professional drafting usually pays for itself, because your first reply frames the entire case; admissions or vague explanations made now are hard to retract at the appeal stage. A practitioner also knows which circulars and precedents apply, how to structure reconciliations officers accept, and when to pay strategically through DRC-03. Weigh the tax at stake against the fee; when the demand exceeds a few thousand rupees, hire help.
Can one document cover both taxable and exempt items sold together?
Yes, in one specific situation. Rule 46A permits a registered person supplying both taxable and exempt goods or services to an unregistered recipient to issue a single invoice-cum-bill of supply covering the entire transaction. This saves retail counters from splitting every mixed basket into two documents. The concession applies only when the buyer is unregistered; for a registered buyer, you must still issue a tax invoice for the taxable items and a separate bill of supply for the exempt items. Supermarkets and pharmacies with mixed inventories use this format daily, and billing software handles the split automatically once configured.
I declare income under Section 44ADA. Does that mean I am exempt from GST?
No, this is a common myth. Section 44ADA is a presumptive taxation scheme under the Income Tax Act that lets professionals declare fifty percent of gross receipts as income; it has nothing to do with GST. GST liability depends solely on aggregate turnover crossing the registration threshold and the nature of your supplies. In fact, the two departments now cross-match data, so gross receipts reported in your ITR and Form 26AS that exceed the GST turnover you declared are a known trigger for notices. Treat the two laws as parallel obligations, each with its own limits and filings.
We pay for foreign software subscriptions and overseas consultants. Is GST payable in India?
Yes. Import of services, meaning services from a supplier located outside India received by a person in India for business, attracts IGST under reverse charge in the recipient's hands, payable in cash and claimable as ITC if eligible. This catches cloud software, foreign professional fees, overseas advertising and licence fees. Two nuances matter: services from a related foreign party, such as your parent company, are taxable even without consideration under Schedule I, and OIDAR services supplied to unregistered consumers are taxed in the foreign supplier's own hands, not under RCM. Startups and IT firms in Thirusulam paying by card frequently miss these entries; reconcile foreign remittances against RCM paid annually.
What does a GST consultant in Thirusulam typically charge for refund and compliance work?
Fees vary with complexity. Simple filings such as an LUT or an excess cash ledger refund are usually fixed-fee assignments, while export and inverted duty refunds involve invoice statements, formula workings and departmental follow-up, so they may be priced as a fixed fee or a small percentage of the refund secured. Monthly reconciliation and return packages are subscription-based. ChennaiGST publishes transparent pricing starting at Rs.1,999 with no percentage cut on straightforward claims, and you pay only after the scope is agreed in writing. Call +91 - 9600 606 444 for a quote specific to your turnover and refund type.
We hire cabs monthly for employee transport in Thirusulam. Who pays the GST?
If the cab operator is not a body corporate, charges 5 percent, and your business is a body corporate, the liability shifts to you under reverse charge. The entry covers renting of motor vehicles designed to carry passengers where the cost of fuel is included in the consideration. If the operator is itself a company, or bills at the higher rate with full ITC, 18 percent since the September 2025 rate rationalisation, forward charge applies and the operator collects the tax. Remember that even after paying RCM, the ITC on employee transport in vehicles seating up to thirteen is blocked under Section 17(5) unless providing the transport is obligatory for the employer under a law.
How does GST work on lorry freight paid to a goods transport agency?
A goods transport agency, identified by its issue of a consignment note, is taxed in one of two ways. By default, specified recipients such as companies and registered persons pay 5 percent under reverse charge on the freight and can claim it as ITC. Alternatively, the GTA may opt to pay tax itself under forward charge, at 5 percent without ITC or 18 percent with ITC after the September 2025 rate rationalisation replaced the earlier 12 percent option, by filing the prescribed declaration for the financial year; the invoice should state this option. Transport by an individual lorry owner without a consignment note is not a GTA service and is exempt. Check each transporter's invoice wording before deciding who pays the tax.
How is interest calculated on a GST demand or late payment?
Interest runs at 18 percent per annum under Section 50 on tax paid after the due date, computed day-wise from the day following the due date until payment. Following amendments, interest on delayed GSTR-3B liability applies on the portion paid through the electronic cash ledger, and interest on wrongly availed ITC arises where the credit has been both availed and utilised. Interest is payable even where no penalty applies, and it cannot be waived by the officer. Because interest compounds silently over long disputes, paying the admitted tax early through DRC-03, even while contesting the rest, often saves a substantial amount.
Is there a GST consultant near Thirusulam for e invoice registration?

No. The fee quoted before we start is the fee you pay. Government fees, portal charges or statutory late fees, where they apply, are separate and disclosed to you in advance with the exact amount. We issue a proper GST invoice for our professional fee. If the scope of work changes — for example, an unexpected notice or additional periods — we tell you the revised fee before doing anything further.
How long does e-invoice setup take in Thirusulam?
1-2 working days. That assumes your documents are complete and there is no departmental query. We start the same day we receive your papers and tell you the realistic completion date upfront rather than an optimistic one.
