Trade Profile and GST Jurisdiction for Puzhal

Puzhal sits between the Red Hills reservoir bund and the Chennai Bypass, so Grand Northern Trunk Road, Paper Mills Road and the Madhavaram-Red Hills Road carry godowns, lorry booking offices, timber depots and poultry traders serving Kathirvedu, Kavangarai and the Central Prison township. Transporters here face constant e-way bill and Part-B extension queries, while godown keepers get pulled up for not adding the premises as an additional place of business. We have supported businesses of exactly this profile with Cancellation & GSTR-10 across Puzhal for years, along with clients from Red Hills and Madhavaram. The engagement is simple: one point of contact, a clear fee, documents over WhatsApp or in person at our Chennai office, and senior review before anything is submitted on the portal. What you get in return is clean filings, archived records and far fewer reasons for the department to write to you.

GST jurisdiction for Puzhal (PIN 600066): businesses here generally fall under the CGST Chennai North Commissionerate. We regularly represent clients from Puzhal before this jurisdiction for registrations, clarifications and notice hearings, and can confirm your exact division and range from your GSTIN. State-jurisdiction cases are handled with the Tamil Nadu Commercial Taxes Department.
GST for Logistics and Transport Operators in Puzhal
A goods transport agency issuing consignment notes normally operates under reverse charge, where the registered customer pays 5 percent and the transporter files returns with little cash outflow, but claiming input credit on trucks and tyres requires opting for forward charge by filing Annexure V before the financial year begins, a choice that then binds the whole year. Giving vehicles on hire to another GTA is exempt altogether. Transporters around Puzhal also carry e-way bill duties: updating Part B on vehicle changes and extending validity within the permitted window when trips overrun. A specialist evaluates the reverse-charge-versus-forward-charge economics and keeps the fleet paperwork inspection-ready.
To get Cancellation & GSTR-10 in Puzhal, share your documents by WhatsApp or visit the office, approve the prepared draft, and the filing is completed on the GST portal from Rs.1,999.
Why Us

Why Puzhal Businesses Choose ChennaiGST

Not a bulk-filing portal. A senior consultant knows your file, your jurisdiction and your deadlines.

✓

Multi-GSTIN and Branch Coordination

Businesses with registrations in more than one State, or multiple branches under one PAN, face cross-charge, stock transfer and input service distribution questions that single-GSTIN firms never see. We keep all your registrations consistent with each other, not just compliant individually.

✓

WhatsApp Updates at Every Stage

You receive a WhatsApp message when documents are received, when the draft is ready for your approval, and when the return or application is filed, along with the acknowledgement. You never have to call and ask what is happening with your file.

✓

E-Commerce Seller Reconciliation, Including TCS

Sellers on Amazon, Flipkart and other marketplaces face a three-way match between marketplace reports, GSTR-1 and the TCS the operator deposits against your GSTIN. We reconcile all three every period and accept the TCS credit, so sellers in Puzhal never leave marketplace deductions unclaimed.

✓

GST Portal Expertise, Including the Difficult Days

OTP failures, DSC errors, stuck submissions on due-date evenings — we deal with the GST portal daily and know the workarounds. When the site misbehaves on the 20th, our team keeps retrying and escalating so your return still goes through.

✓

Same-Day Response, Every Working Day

Send your query on call or WhatsApp and you hear back the same working day, usually within a few hours. When a due date is close or a notice has landed, waiting two days for a reply is simply not acceptable, and we know it.

✓

Deadline Tracking Done for You

GSTR-1 by the 11th, GSTR-3B by the 20th, CMP-08 by the 18th after each quarter — we maintain a compliance calendar for every client and start chasing your data well before the due date, so late fees never enter the picture.

How It Works

Our GST Cancellation Process

Compliance clean-up

We check the portal for unfiled returns and outstanding demands, and file all pending GSTR-1 and GSTR-3B first, since cancellation cannot proceed over defaults.

Stock and tax computation

Closing stock and capital goods on the intended cancellation date are listed, and the reversal of input tax credit or output tax payable on them is computed.

REG-16 filing

The cancellation application is filed in Form REG-16 with the reason, effective date, stock details and tax payment, signed with DSC or EVC.

Order tracking

We respond to any clarification the officer seeks and track the application until the cancellation order in Form REG-19 is issued on the portal.

Final return GSTR-10

Within three months of the cancellation order we file the final return in GSTR-10 with closing stock details, completing the closure with no residual liability.

Outcomes

What You Get

Practical outcomes our clients measure us by.

★

TDS and TCS Credits Converted to Cash

Amounts deducted by government buyers as GST TDS and by marketplaces as TCS are accepted on the portal each period, so money withheld against your GSTIN actually reaches your cash ledger instead of lying unclaimed.

★

Goods That Move Without Detention

Correct e-way bills matched to correct invoices mean your consignments clear roadside inspections cleanly, avoiding detention proceedings whose penalties can far exceed the tax on the goods being carried.

★

Supplier Risk Caught Early

We spot suppliers who stop uploading invoices or filing returns and alert you before their default becomes your blocked credit, letting you recover amounts or switch vendors while the exposure is still small.

★

Stronger Standing with Corporate Buyers

Large buyers check vendor GST compliance before releasing payments and renewing contracts. A clean filing record with timely GSTR-1 uploads keeps your invoices reflecting in their GSTR-2B and your payments unblocked.

★

Fewer Errors at the Billing Counter

Your billing staff are guided on invoice fields, rates and series discipline, so mistakes are prevented where they originate — at the counter — instead of being repaired later in the returns.

★

Fewer Departmental Notices

Consistent, reconciled returns give the department's matching systems nothing to flag. Clients who move to us after years of self-filing typically see scrutiny queries and mismatch notices fall away within a few filing cycles.

Why a Specialist Matters

With ChennaiGST vs Doing It Yourself

AspectWith ChennaiGSTDIY / Unattended
Late fees and interestFilings go in ahead of statutory dates, so the Rs.50-per-day late fee and 18 percent interest never arise.Late fees accumulate silently every delayed day, and interest on unpaid tax runs at 18 percent per annum.
Time costRoughly an hour a month to send data and approve drafts; the portal work, reconciliation and follow-up are ours.Hours every month lost to portal errors, JSON files, OTP failures and reworking figures — usually on the due date itself.
Record keepingEvery return, challan, acknowledgement and working paper archived in an organised folder, retrievable in minutes years later.Documents scattered across email, downloads and old phones; assembling records for a bank or an audit takes days.
Input tax creditPurchase register matched against GSTR-2B each period, with defaulting suppliers chased so eligible credit is actually captured.Credit claimed from books alone; mismatches with GSTR-2B mean lost credit or excess claims that invite departmental queries.
Refund claimsRFD-01 filed with complete statements and annexures, tracked from ARN to bank credit, with any deficiency memo answered promptly.Incomplete claims bounce back as deficiency memos while the refund sits unclaimed for months and working capital stays blocked.
Portal credentials and dataLogins handled by a small engaged team under strict confidentiality, with credentials stored securely and never passed onward.Passwords circulating on chats with freelancers and part-timers, and no accountability for who has accessed your business data.

Madras High Court continues to apply Suguna Cutpiece conditions for registration revival in 2025

Pelican Ventures v. Assistant Commissioner (ST) — Madras High Court, 2025 · 2025-09-02

The Madras High Court once again applied the Suguna Cutpiece Center precedent to a taxpayer seeking revival of a GST registration cancelled for default in filing returns after the limitation for revocation had expired. The Court granted restoration on the standard terms — filing of all pending returns, cash payment of outstanding tax with interest and late fee, and departmental verification — confirming that this remedial route remains alive for Tamil Nadu taxpayers years after the original ruling.

What to do about it: The Suguna Cutpiece route is still being applied by the Madras High Court — do not treat a time-barred cancellation as final before exploring a writ remedy.

Circular

No claim bonus in insurance and entity-wise exemption from e-invoicing

Circular No. 186/18/2022-GST · 2022-12-27

The Board clarified two unrelated points. A no claim bonus allowed by an insurer is a permissible discount under Section 15(3)(a) and may be deducted from the value of the insurance service, provided it is shown in the invoice. Separately, where an entity is exempt from the requirement to issue e-invoices, that exemption attaches to the entity as a whole and covers all its supplies, including supplies unrelated to the activity that gave rise to the exemption.

What to do about it: An exempt category business such as a bank, insurer or goods transport agency in Chennai need not issue e-invoices for any of its supplies, not merely its core activity.

Portal Advisory

CBIC answers on what counts as pre-packaged and labelled

CBIC Frequently Asked Questions on GST on pre-packaged and labelled goods, dated 17 July 2022 · 2022-07-17

A day before the change took effect, the Tax Research Unit issued FAQs explaining that the expression takes its meaning from the Legal Metrology Act, 2009 and covers commodities intended for retail sale in packs of up to twenty-five kilograms or twenty-five litres that must bear statutory declarations. A single package above that limit is not covered, nor are packs supplied to an industrial or institutional consumer. Loose sale from a large pack by a retailer does not attract the levy.

Practical effect: A fifty-kilogram rice bag sold as one package stays outside the levy, but the moment it is repacked into labelled retail bags of twenty-five kilograms or less, five per cent applies.

Frequently Asked Questions

Straight answers from practising GST consultants — based on the CGST Act, current CBIC notifications and day-to-day portal experience.

Are there any hidden charges for cancellation & GSTR-10?
No. The fee quoted before we start is the fee you pay. Government fees, portal charges or statutory late fees, where they apply, are separate and disclosed to you in advance with the exact amount. We issue a proper GST invoice for our professional fee. If the scope of work changes — for example, an unexpected notice or additional periods — we tell you the revised fee before doing anything further.
How much does cancellation & GSTR-10 cost in Puzhal?
Our fee for cancellation & GSTR-10 in Puzhal starts at Rs.1,999 and is quoted in full before we begin — there are no hidden charges added later. The fee covers professional work end to end: document review, preparation, filing and follow-up until completion. Government fees or portal charges, where applicable, are separate and always shown to you upfront. For an exact quote based on your turnover and business type, call +91 - 9600 606 444 and a consultant will confirm it on the call.
What is GSTR-10 and when do I have to file it?
GSTR-10 is the final return that every registered person whose registration is cancelled or surrendered must file, other than composition taxpayers, ISDs, non-resident taxpayers and TDS or TCS registrants. It must be filed within three months of the date of cancellation or the date of the cancellation order, whichever is later. The return captures closing stock of inputs, semi-finished and finished goods, and capital goods, and requires payment of tax or reversal of input credit on that stock. Filing GSTR-10 formally closes your GSTIN; skipping it keeps the file open and invites notices and late fees.
After applying for cancellation, do I still have to file GST returns?
Yes, and this trips up many taxpayers. Filing REG-16 does not by itself stop your compliance; you remain liable to file GSTR-1 and GSTR-3B for periods up to the effective date of cancellation, and the officer will generally not pass the cancellation order in REG-19 while returns are pending. Once the order is issued specifying the effective cancellation date, regular returns stop and only the final return GSTR-10, due within three months, remains. Plan the closure date sensibly, ideally at a month end with nil stock, so the tail of compliance is short and clean.
Do I have to pay GST on unsold stock when I cancel my registration?
Yes. On cancellation you must pay an amount equal to the input tax credit on inputs held in stock, inputs contained in semi-finished and finished goods, and capital goods, or the output tax payable on such goods, whichever is higher. For capital goods, the credit is reduced proportionately for the period of use. This liability is declared in the REG-16 application and settled through your electronic credit or cash ledger, with any balance payable via Form DRC-03. Clearing out or selling down stock before choosing your closure date substantially reduces this hit, which is worth planning in advance with your consultant.
Can the department cancel my GST number on its own?
Yes. The officer can cancel a registration suo motu for reasons including continuous non-filing of returns for six months by a regular taxpayer, non-commencement of business within six months of voluntary registration, obtaining registration by fraud, or issuing invoices without actual supply of goods or services. Before cancellation, a show cause notice in Form REG-17 is issued and you get seven working days to reply in REG-18; the registration is usually suspended during this period, which halts your ability to file and generate e-way bills. If your Puzhal business received REG-17, respond immediately rather than letting cancellation happen.
What happens if I never file the final return after cancelling my GST?
The department does not forget an unfiled GSTR-10. A late fee accrues from the due date, and the officer can issue a notice giving you fifteen days to file; if you still do not comply, an assessment order can be passed determining the tax, interest and penalty payable on your closing stock based on available information. Old cancelled registrations with pending GSTR-10 also surface when proprietors apply for new registrations or loans. If your cancelled GSTIN from a past Puzhal business still shows GSTR-10 pending, it is cheaper to regularise it now than after a notice arrives. Call +91 - 9600 606 444.
I closed my business in Puzhal. How do I cancel my GST registration?
Apply for cancellation in Form REG-16 on the GST portal, stating the reason, such as discontinuance of business, the date of closure, and details of stock held on that date along with the tax payable on it. Clear any outstanding tax through your electronic ledgers, and keep filing your regular returns until the officer passes the cancellation order in Form REG-19. After cancellation, you must file the final return GSTR-10 within three months of the cancellation date or the order date, whichever is later. Our Puzhal team handles cancellation and the final return together; call +91 - 9600 606 444.
We add a service charge to restaurant bills. Does GST apply on that service charge?
Yes. Whatever a restaurant collects from the customer for the supply, including any service charge added to the bill, forms part of the transaction value under Section 15, so GST at 5% applies on the food value plus the service charge. The consumer-protection debate about whether a service charge can be levied at all is separate from GST; once it is charged, it is taxable. Tips paid voluntarily by the customer directly to staff, outside the bill, are not consideration for the supply and attract no GST. Configure your POS so the tax computes after the service charge line.
Can a jeweller resell old jewellery under the margin scheme and pay GST only on the profit?
Yes, with an important condition. Under Rule 32(5), a dealer in second-hand goods who sells used jewellery as it is, or after minor processing such as cleaning and polishing that does not change its nature, can pay GST on the margin, the difference between selling and purchase price, with no tax if the margin is negative. The concession is lost the moment you melt the old jewellery and manufacture a new ornament, because the goods change form; the new piece is then taxed at 3% on full value. Maintain separate stock registers for as-is resale and melting lots to protect the margin claim.
Do I need to file all old returns before applying for revocation?
Yes, this is a strict precondition. Where registration was cancelled for non-filing of returns, the revocation application in REG-21 cannot succeed unless all returns due up to the effective date of cancellation are filed, with tax, interest and late fees paid in full. The GSTR-3B late fee is Rs.50 per day, or Rs.20 per day for nil returns, capped with reference to turnover, and interest runs at 18 percent per annum on unpaid tax, so a long gap adds up. We first compute the exact clearance amount for your Puzhal business, file the backlog, and then submit REG-21 so it is approved in one pass.
What is the default place of supply rule for services within India?
Section 12(2) of the IGST Act sets the general rule for domestic services: if the recipient is registered, the place of supply is the recipient's location; if unregistered, it is the recipient's address on your records, and failing that, the supplier's own location. So a consultant in Puzhal advising a registered company in Hyderabad charges IGST, while the same advice to a local walk-in individual attracts CGST plus SGST. This default yields only to the specific rules for immovable property, events, transportation, and a few other categories, so always check whether a specific rule captures your service before falling back on the general one.
How is GST charged on clothes and footwear after the rate change?
The rate now turns on a per-piece price line of Rs.2,500. Apparel, made-up textile articles and footwear with a sale value up to Rs.2,500 per piece attract 5 percent GST, while pieces priced above Rs.2,500 attract 18 percent. The test applies item by item, so a single invoice from a garment shop in Puzhal can carry both rates: a Rs.1,800 shirt at 5 percent and a Rs.4,000 pair of shoes at 18 percent on the same bill. Configure the billing software to test the price of each line item automatically rather than applying one blanket rate.
What documents must I prepare for reverse charge purchases from unregistered suppliers?
Two documents are required. First, a self-invoice: Section 31(3)(f) obliges you to issue an invoice on yourself for goods or services received from an unregistered supplier on which you pay tax under reverse charge, and under Rule 47A this self-invoice must be issued within thirty days of receiving the supply. Second, a payment voucher under Rule 52 at the time of making payment to the supplier. The self-invoice is the document on which you claim the input tax credit of the reverse charge tax paid. Freight from unregistered transporters and advocate fees are typical cases where businesses miss this paperwork.
Is the late fee charged on delayed returns the same thing as a penalty?
No, they are legally distinct. Late fee under Section 47 is an automatic, fixed daily charge for filing a return after its due date, computed by the portal and payable in cash before the return is accepted; no officer discretion or notice is involved. Penalty, under provisions such as Sections 122 to 125, is imposed through adjudication for specified offences, requires a show cause notice and hearing, and can be contested or reduced. Interest under Section 50 is a third, separate levy compensating for delayed payment. A delayed return with tax due can therefore attract all three simultaneously, each on its own footing.
How do I document free samples and gifts given to customers?
Goods supplied genuinely free of cost to unrelated persons are not a supply, so no tax invoice is raised and no GST is charged; the movement is covered by a delivery challan marked as free samples. The cost is that input tax credit on those goods must be reversed. Two traps deserve care: gifts to related persons or between distinct GSTINs of the same PAN are taxable under Schedule I even without consideration, and promotional schemes like buy one get one are treated as a single price for two items, taxed normally with credit intact. Structure your Puzhal promotions with this distinction in mind.
How does GST work on lorry freight paid to a goods transport agency?
A goods transport agency, identified by its issue of a consignment note, is taxed in one of two ways. By default, specified recipients such as companies and registered persons pay 5 percent under reverse charge on the freight and can claim it as ITC. Alternatively, the GTA may opt to pay tax itself under forward charge, at 5 percent without ITC or 18 percent with ITC after the September 2025 rate rationalisation replaced the earlier 12 percent option, by filing the prescribed declaration for the financial year; the invoice should state this option. Transport by an individual lorry owner without a consignment note is not a GTA service and is exempt. Check each transporter's invoice wording before deciding who pays the tax.
Can my GST registration be cancelled for not filing returns?
Yes. Under Rule 21A, the department can suspend a GSTIN where returns are not filed for a continuous period, and Section 29 permits cancellation where a regular taxpayer has not filed returns for six months (two quarters for QRMP, and a composition taxpayer defaulting on the annual return beyond three months). During suspension you cannot issue tax invoices or file returns, which freezes the business. If cancellation happens, revocation must be sought through REG-21 within 90 days after clearing all dues. If you have received a suspension notice in Puzhal, call +91 - 9600 606 444 immediately.
What documents are required for cancellation & GSTR-10 in Puzhal?
For cancellation & GSTR-10 you will generally need: GST portal login credentials, Reason for cancellation with the effective date of closure, Details of closing stock of inputs, semi-finished and finished goods, Details of capital goods and plant and machinery held, Purchase invoices supporting input tax credit on closing stock. The exact list depends on your constitution — proprietorship, partnership, LLP or company — and on the specifics of your case. Send what you have on WhatsApp to +91 - 9600 606 444 and we will confirm within the same working day exactly what else is needed, so nothing is rejected later for a missing paper.
Is there a GST consultant near Puzhal for gst cancellation online?
Yes. We serve Puzhal and the surrounding areas from our office at Porur, Chennai - 600 116, Tamil Nadu, and most GST cancellation work is completed online — you send documents on WhatsApp and we handle the portal work. If you prefer in-person help, we offer doorstep document pickup across Puzhal and you are welcome to visit our office. Reach us on +91 - 9600 606 444 between 9 AM and 8 PM, Monday to Saturday.
What is the process for cancellation & GSTR-10?
The process runs in clear stages: Compliance clean-up; Stock and tax computation; REG-16 filing; Order tracking. A senior consultant reviews your file at each stage rather than passing it to a data-entry desk, and you receive a confirmation with the filed documents once it is complete. You always know which stage your work is at — we update you on WhatsApp instead of leaving you to follow up.
