Trade Profile and GST Jurisdiction for Ramapuram

Finding dependable GST Refund RFD-01 in Ramapuram usually means choosing between a distant online portal and an overloaded local accountant. Ramapuram sits north of Mount Poonamallee Road between the DLF IT Park gate and Ramapuram Main Road, with the SRM Ramapuram campus off Bharathi Salai and dense residential grids in Chowdhary Nagar, Kothari Nagar, Bethaniya Nagar and Majestic Colony. Software and BPO vendors, IT staffing agencies, PG hostels, cloud kitchens and facility contractors bill the DLF tenants, so LUT renewals for export of services, place-of-supply questions on manpower contracts and blocked-credit disputes on canteen and employee cab bills dominate the work here. We offer a third option: a professional Chennai GST practice that treats Ramapuram, Manapakkam and Mugalivakkam as home ground, responds the same working day, files ahead of deadlines, and stands behind its work if a notice ever arrives on a return we prepared.

GST jurisdiction for Ramapuram (PIN 600089): businesses here generally fall under the CGST Chennai South Commissionerate. We regularly represent clients from Ramapuram before this jurisdiction for registrations, clarifications and notice hearings, and can confirm your exact division and range from your GSTIN. State-jurisdiction cases are handled with the Tamil Nadu Commercial Taxes Department.
GST for IT and SaaS Companies in Ramapuram
IT and SaaS services are taxed at 18 percent domestically, but the real complexity is qualifying overseas billing as export under Section 2(6) of the IGST Act: the recipient must be outside India, consideration must arrive in convertible foreign exchange or INR where RBI permits, and the Indian entity and foreign recipient must not be mere establishments of the same person. Marketing or support arms serving a foreign parent risk classification as intermediaries under Section 13(8), making the place of supply India and the income taxable. Supplies to SEZ units are zero-rated with proper endorsements. A specialist structures contracts and invoicing so export status survives departmental scrutiny.
The cost of GST Refund RFD-01 in Ramapuram starts at Rs.4,999 as a fixed professional fee quoted upfront, with any government fees shown separately and no hidden additions later.
Why Us

Why Ramapuram Businesses Choose ChennaiGST

Not a bulk-filing portal. A senior consultant knows your file, your jurisdiction and your deadlines.

Extra Hands During Filing Windows

In the days before the 11th and the 20th, our team runs extended hours and a strict internal queue, so a client who sends data late in the window is still filed on time. Peak-season crush at our end never becomes a late fee at yours.

A Real Local Office You Can Walk Into

We are a Chennai firm with a physical office, not a faceless portal. If you prefer to sit across a table with your papers, you are welcome. Clients from Ramapuram regularly visit us for registrations, notice discussions and annual return reviews.

Clean Exits When a Business Closes

Winding up attracts its own GST obligations — the cancellation application, reversal of credit on closing stock, and the final return in GSTR-10 within three months. We close registrations properly so a business you shut in Ramapuram never writes back to you as a demand years later.

Ledger Housekeeping on the Portal

Your cash ledger, credit ledger and liability register are reviewed regularly, not just at filing time. Excess balances are flagged for use or refund, and where a genuine slip surfaces, a voluntary payment through DRC-03 settles it before it can mature into a notice.

E-Commerce Seller Reconciliation, Including TCS

Sellers on Amazon, Flipkart and other marketplaces face a three-way match between marketplace reports, GSTR-1 and the TCS the operator deposits against your GSTIN. We reconcile all three every period and accept the TCS credit, so sellers in Ramapuram never leave marketplace deductions unclaimed.

Same-Day Response, Every Working Day

Send your query on call or WhatsApp and you hear back the same working day, usually within a few hours. When a due date is close or a notice has landed, waiting two days for a reply is simply not acceptable, and we know it.

How It Works

Our GST Refund Process

Eligibility and computation

We identify the correct refund category, confirm the two-year limitation from the relevant date, and compute the admissible amount using the formula prescribed under the rules.

Document compilation

Invoices, shipping bills, FIRCs, the LUT and ledger extracts are compiled into the prescribed statements, and gaps that commonly cause deficiency memos are fixed upfront.

RFD-01 filing

The refund application is filed on the portal with all annexures and declarations, and the acknowledgement in RFD-02 is tracked within the statutory fifteen days.

Departmental follow-up

We respond to any deficiency memo in RFD-03 or show cause notice in RFD-08, appear through written submissions, and pursue provisional refund where the category permits.

Sanction and credit

We track the sanction order in RFD-06 and payment advice in RFD-05, confirm the credit in your validated bank account, and archive the complete claim file.

Outcomes

What You Get

Practical outcomes our clients measure us by.

Goods That Move Without Detention

Correct e-way bills matched to correct invoices mean your consignments clear roadside inspections cleanly, avoiding detention proceedings whose penalties can far exceed the tax on the goods being carried.

Credit Notes That Actually Reduce Your Tax

Sales returns, discounts and price revisions are adjusted through properly reported credit notes within the statutory window, so you never keep paying tax on turnover you have already reversed.

Due-Diligence Ready for Investors and Buyers

Funding rounds, partnerships and business sales all begin with a compliance check. A clean, documented GST history lets you clear that scrutiny quickly instead of watching a deal stall over old filing gaps.

The Lowest Tax Position the Law Allows

Your scheme choice — regular, composition or QRMP — is re-examined as turnover and margins change, so you are always paying under the structure that legitimately costs your business the least.

No Interest Outflows at 18 Percent

Interest on delayed GST payment runs at 18 percent per annum, which is costlier than most working capital finance. Timely computation and payment through our calendar keeps that meter permanently at zero.

A Written Trail for Every Decision

Tax positions, rate choices and credit calls are documented as they are made, so if a question arises years later, the reasoning and evidence are on file rather than in someone's fading memory.

Why a Specialist Matters

With ChennaiGST vs Doing It Yourself

AspectWith ChennaiGSTDIY / Unattended
Record keepingEvery return, challan, acknowledgement and working paper archived in an organised folder, retrievable in minutes years later.Documents scattered across email, downloads and old phones; assembling records for a bank or an audit takes days.
Goods in transitE-way bills generated correctly and matched to invoices, so consignments pass roadside inspections without detention or penalty.A defective or missing e-way bill can mean detention at a checkpoint, with penalties that dwarf the tax on the consignment.
When a notice arrivesA professional drafts the reply in the department's format and files it within the statutory window, such as thirty days for ASMT-11.You face departmental language alone, and a missed reply deadline can convert a simple query into a demand with penalty.
Registration and amendmentsQuery-resistant applications prepared correctly the first time, with supporting documents matched to what proper officers actually verify.Repeated clarification memos and resubmissions, with weeks lost because a rent agreement or premises photograph did not meet expectations.
Late fees and interestFilings go in ahead of statutory dates, so the Rs.50-per-day late fee and 18 percent interest never arise.Late fees accumulate silently every delayed day, and interest on unpaid tax runs at 18 percent per annum.
Time costRoughly an hour a month to send data and approve drafts; the portal work, reconciliation and follow-up are ours.Hours every month lost to portal errors, JSON files, OTP failures and reworking figures — usually on the due date itself.

AAR Ruling

Student recruitment for foreign universities held to be intermediary service, not export

Global Reach Education Services Pvt Ltd — AAR West Bengal, ruling dated 21 March 2018, upheld by AAAR West Bengal, Order No. 01/WBAAAR/Appeal/2018, dated 24 July 2018 · 2018-03-21

The applicant promoted courses of foreign universities in India and recruited students for them, receiving commission in foreign exchange. It claimed the service was an export and therefore zero rated. The West Bengal Authority for Advance Ruling, affirmed on appeal, held that the applicant merely facilitates admission of students to the university and is an intermediary under Section 2(13) of the IGST Act. As the place of supply of an intermediary is the location of the supplier, the service is a domestic supply liable to GST.

What it means for you: Businesses earning foreign commission for facilitating a third party's supply should test the intermediary risk before treating receipts as zero-rated exports.

Notification

Restaurants moved to 5 per cent without input tax credit from 15 November 2017

Notification No. 46/2017-Central Tax (Rate) dated 14.11.2017 · 2017-11-14

Acting on the GST Council's decision at its 23rd meeting in Guwahati, this notification restructured the rate on restaurant, eating joint, mess and canteen services. From 15 November 2017 the rate became 5 per cent with the express condition that no input tax credit on goods and services used in supplying the service may be taken. Restaurants located in hotels where the declared tariff of any unit of accommodation was seven thousand five hundred rupees or more continued at 18 per cent with full input tax credit.

Practical effect: A standalone Chennai restaurant charges 5 per cent and must write off all GST on rent, equipment and ingredients as a cost, since no credit is allowed.

GST Council

Hotel room GST restructured on transaction value and outdoor catering cut to 5 per cent

37th GST Council Meeting, Goa — 20 September 2019 · 2019-09-20

The Council replaced the declared tariff basis for hotel accommodation with actual transaction value and reset the slabs with effect from 1 October 2019: nil where the value is up to Rs 1,000 per day, 12 per cent between Rs 1,001 and Rs 7,500, and 18 per cent above Rs 7,500. Outdoor catering, other than in premises having daily tariff above Rs 7,500, was reduced from 18 per cent with input tax credit to 5 per cent without credit. This substantially reduced tax on mid-segment hotels and on marriage and event catering.

Practical effect: Chennai hotels and outdoor caterers had to rebuild their rate logic around the actual amount charged, and caterers lost input credit in exchange for the lower five per cent rate.

FAQs

Frequently Asked Questions

Straight answers from practising GST consultants — based on the CGST Act, current CBIC notifications and day-to-day portal experience.

Are there any hidden charges for GST refund RFD-01?
No. The fee quoted before we start is the fee you pay. Government fees, portal charges or statutory late fees, where they apply, are separate and disclosed to you in advance with the exact amount. We issue a proper GST invoice for our professional fee. If the scope of work changes — for example, an unexpected notice or additional periods — we tell you the revised fee before doing anything further.
What is the process for GST refund RFD-01?
The process runs in clear stages: Eligibility and computation; Document compilation; RFD-01 filing; Departmental follow-up. A senior consultant reviews your file at each stage rather than passing it to a data-entry desk, and you receive a confirmation with the filed documents once it is complete. You always know which stage your work is at — we update you on WhatsApp instead of leaving you to follow up.
What is an inverted duty structure refund and does my business qualify?
An inverted duty structure arises when the GST rate on your inputs is higher than the rate on your outward supplies, causing input tax credit to accumulate. For example, a manufacturer buying raw material at 18 percent and selling finished goods at 5 percent will qualify. Refund of the accumulated ITC is claimed through RFD-01 using the formula prescribed in Rule 89(5), filed within two years of the due date of the relevant return. Certain notified goods are excluded from this refund, so eligibility should be checked against current CBIC notifications before applying.
What documents do I need to attach with a GST refund application?
The documents depend on the refund category. Export refunds under LUT need a statement of invoices with corresponding shipping bill numbers and dates, or FIRC and BRC for service exports. Inverted duty claims need statements of inward and outward supplies with the Rule 89(5) computation. All claims need a declaration that the tax incidence has not been passed on, and claims above Rs.2 lakh require a certificate from a chartered accountant or cost accountant in certain cases. Uploads are limited on the portal, so annexures must be prepared compactly. Call +91 - 9600 606 444 for a category-wise checklist.
I export goods after paying IGST. How do I get that tax back?
For export of goods with payment of IGST, no separate RFD-01 is needed. The shipping bill filed with customs is itself treated as the refund application once you file GSTR-1 with correct shipping bill details in Table 6A and pay the tax through GSTR-3B. Customs matches the data from the GST portal with ICEGATE and credits the refund directly to your bank account. Most delays happen because of invoice mismatches between GSTR-1 and the shipping bill, or bank account validation errors, so reconcile both before filing each month.
My GST refund was rejected by the officer. Do I have any remedy?
Yes. Before rejection, the officer must issue a notice in RFD-08 and consider your reply in RFD-09, so a rejection without hearing you is itself challengeable. Against a rejection order in RFD-06, you can file an appeal in Form APL-01 before the appellate authority within three months of the order. The ITC debited for the rejected claim is re-credited through PMT-03 where applicable. Appeals on refund matters frequently succeed where the rejection was for curable documentation gaps, so preserve every acknowledgement and reply. Professional drafting of the appeal grounds materially improves outcomes.
What are deemed exports and who claims the refund, the supplier or the buyer?
Deemed exports are notified domestic supplies treated like exports even though goods do not leave India, such as supplies to Export Oriented Units, supplies against Advance Authorisation, and supplies of capital goods against EPCG authorisation. Tax is paid on these supplies, and the refund of that tax can be claimed through RFD-01 by either the recipient or, where the recipient furnishes an undertaking that it will not claim the refund and will not avail ITC, by the supplier. The claim must be filed within two years and supported by the prescribed acknowledgements and undertakings.
How can I track my GST refund status, and is there help near me in Chennai?
Log in to the GST portal and go to Services, then Refunds, then Track Application Status, where each ARN shows its stage: filed, acknowledged, provisional refund issued, or final order passed. For IGST-paid exports, refund status is tracked on ICEGATE against the shipping bill. If an application shows no movement past sixty days, you are entitled to interest on the delayed amount and can escalate through a grievance on the portal. ChennaiGST assists businesses across Ramapuram with follow-up and escalation of stuck refunds; call +91 - 9600 606 444 with your ARN for a status review.
What is a B2C large invoice and what is the current threshold?
A B2C large invoice is an inter-state supply to an unregistered person exceeding the notified value threshold, which was reduced from Rs.2.5 lakh to Rs.1 lakh. Such invoices must be reported individually in Table 5 of GSTR-1 with the place of supply, instead of being merged into the consolidated B2C summary. The rule helps states track high-value consumer sales flowing across borders. If your Ramapuram showroom occasionally bills an unregistered customer from another state above Rs.1 lakh, your billing and returns process must flag it for invoice-wise reporting, or GSTR-1 validations and later scrutiny will surface the gap.
I generate e-invoices. Do I still have to prepare GSTR-1 separately?
If your aggregate turnover exceeds Rs.5 crore, e-invoicing is mandatory and the invoice details reported to the Invoice Registration Portal auto-populate into your GSTR-1. However, auto-population is not a substitute for review. B2C sales, exports without IRN issues, credit notes, amendments and advances still need to be verified or added manually before submission. We review the auto-drafted GSTR-1 against your books each month so that what is filed matches your accounts exactly. If you have just crossed the Rs.5 crore threshold, call +91 - 9600 606 444 and we will set up e-invoicing correctly.
Which revenues of a hospital in Ramapuram are taxable despite the healthcare exemption?
Several. Pharmacy sales to outpatients and walk-in customers are ordinary sales of goods at the medicine's own rate, whereas medicines and food supplied to admitted inpatients as part of treatment form a composite supply with exempt healthcare, per CBIC's 2018 clarification. Cosmetic and plastic surgery and hair transplants are taxable unless undertaken to restore anatomy or function after injury, illness or congenital defect. Rentals to in-house chemists and canteens, sale of scrap and equipment, and non-clinical charges are also taxable. Hospitals in Ramapuram therefore often need registration and monthly returns even though their core revenue is exempt. Call +91 - 9600 606 444 for a revenue-wise mapping.
What is the GST rate for restaurants and food delivery now?
Standalone restaurants, eateries and cloud kitchens charge 5 percent GST without input tax credit. Restaurants located in hotels where the room tariff exceeds Rs.7,500 per day fall in the specified premises category and charge 18 percent with input tax credit. Food ordered through e-commerce operators such as Swiggy and Zomato is taxed at 5 percent, with the platform liable to pay the tax on restaurant services supplied through it. A restaurant in Ramapuram paying 5 percent must remember that GST on its rent, gas and equipment purchases becomes a cost, since credit is barred.
Our company paid fees to a lawyer. Who pays the GST on this?
You do, as the recipient. Legal services supplied by an individual advocate, a firm of advocates or a senior advocate to a business entity are notified under Section 9(3), so the advocate does not charge GST and your business pays 18 percent under reverse charge in cash through GSTR-3B, claiming it back as ITC if otherwise eligible. Relief exists for small recipients: legal services to a business entity whose turnover is within the registration threshold are exempt. Since the advocate is usually unregistered, remember to raise a self-invoice and payment voucher for the transaction. Litigation-heavy businesses in Ramapuram should reconcile their legal expense ledger against RCM paid every quarter.
Can you give me a simple GST due-date calendar for my business?
For monthly filers: GSTR-1 by the 11th and GSTR-3B by the 20th of the next month. Under QRMP: optional IFF by the 13th of the next month, PMT-06 payment by the 25th, quarterly GSTR-1 by the 13th and GSTR-3B by the 22nd (Tamil Nadu) after the quarter. Composition dealers pay via CMP-08 by the 18th after each quarter and file GSTR-4 annually by 30 June. GSTR-7 and GSTR-8 are due on the 10th, and GSTR-9 and GSTR-9C by 31 December. Clients in Ramapuram receive our reminder messages before every date.
What are OIDAR services under GST and who pays the tax on them?
OIDAR means Online Information Database Access or Retrieval services, delivered over the internet, such as cloud services, e-books, streaming, online advertising and automated e-learning. When a foreign OIDAR provider supplies these to unregistered persons in India, the foreign provider itself must take a simplified registration in Form REG-10 and file monthly return GSTR-5A. From 1 October 2023, the definition was widened, so almost every unregistered Indian recipient is covered. When the Indian recipient is GST-registered, the tax instead falls on the recipient under reverse charge as an import of services.
How much time do I get to raise an invoice for services?
A tax invoice for services must be issued within thirty days from the date of supply of the service. For banks, insurers, financial institutions and NBFCs, the limit is forty-five days. Where services are supplied continuously, the invoice follows the contract: if the due date of payment is ascertainable, invoice on or before that date; if not, invoice when payment is received; and if payment is linked to completion of an event or milestone, invoice on or before its completion. Consultants and agencies that bill quarterly should check their contracts against these rules, since late invoicing defers nothing legally.
Why are so many businesses suddenly receiving GST notices these days?
Enforcement has shifted from manual selection to data analytics. The portal now automatically compares GSTR-1 with GSTR-3B and flags tax shortfalls through DRC-01B intimations under Rule 88C, and compares GSTR-2B with GSTR-3B to flag excess ITC through DRC-01C under Rule 88D. E-way bill, e-invoice, TDS and income tax data are also cross-matched, and limitation deadlines for older financial years have pushed departments to clear pending demands in batches. The practical lesson for Ramapuram businesses is that mismatches no longer go unnoticed, so month-wise reconciliation before filing is now essential hygiene rather than a year-end exercise.
We hire cabs monthly for employee transport in Ramapuram. Who pays the GST?
If the cab operator is not a body corporate, charges 5 percent, and your business is a body corporate, the liability shifts to you under reverse charge. The entry covers renting of motor vehicles designed to carry passengers where the cost of fuel is included in the consideration. If the operator is itself a company, or bills at the higher rate with full ITC, 18 percent since the September 2025 rate rationalisation, forward charge applies and the operator collects the tax. Remember that even after paying RCM, the ITC on employee transport in vehicles seating up to thirteen is blocked under Section 17(5) unless providing the transport is obligatory for the employer under a law.
How long does GST refund RFD-01 take in Ramapuram?
Application filed in 3-5 working days; sanction typically within 60 days. That assumes your documents are complete and there is no departmental query. We start the same day we receive your papers and tell you the realistic completion date upfront rather than an optimistic one. Where the GST portal or the officer causes delay — clarifications, physical verification or system issues — we track it daily and keep you informed on WhatsApp.
Do you provide gst refund application for small businesses and proprietorships in Ramapuram?
Yes. A large share of our clients in Ramapuram are proprietors, small traders, shop owners, freelancers and family businesses rather than large companies. The fee of Rs.4,999 and the process are the same regardless of size, and we explain the compliance position in plain language — in Tamil or English — so you understand what is being filed on your behalf and why.
