Trade Profile and GST Jurisdiction for Ullagaram

Finding dependable New GST Registration in Ullagaram usually means choosing between a distant online portal and an overloaded local accountant. Ullagaram, the northern half of the old Ullagaram-Puzhuthivakkam municipality, trades along Ponniamman Koil Street, Murugappa Street and Puzhuthivakkam Road towards the Nanganallur Market and Nanganallur Bus Terminus, with Union Carbide Colony, Voltas Colony, Macmillon Colony and Vanuvampet supplying steady retail, tailoring, tuition and clinic custom. Small proprietors near the Rs 20 lakh and Rs 40 lakh thresholds routinely mistime registration and drift out of composition on crossing turnover mid-year. We offer a third option: a professional Chennai GST practice that treats Ullagaram, Puzhuthivakkam and Adambakkam as home ground, responds the same working day, files ahead of deadlines, and stands behind its work if a notice ever arrives on a return we prepared.

GST jurisdiction for Ullagaram (PIN 600091): businesses here generally fall under the CGST Chennai South Commissionerate. We regularly represent clients from Ullagaram before this jurisdiction for registrations, clarifications and notice hearings, and can confirm your exact division and range from your GSTIN. State-jurisdiction cases are handled with the Tamil Nadu Commercial Taxes Department.
GST for Pharma Distributors in Ullagaram
Distributing medicines in Ullagaram means handling several rates at once: most formulations moved to 5 percent from 22 September 2025, while specified lifesaving drugs are nil-rated, and nil-rated sales trigger proportionate credit reversal under Rule 42. Date-expired stock returned by chemists must travel back either as a fresh supply from the retailer or against a credit note under Section 34, following the procedure laid down in Circular 72/46/2018, with credit reversal where the goods are destroyed. Batch-wise and expiry-wise stock records are what officers ask for first. A specialist manages the returns paperwork, rate masters and reversal workings that drug distribution demands.
After New GST Registration is filed, support continues — acknowledgements are archived, upcoming due dates are tracked, and any departmental query on the work is answered, all within fees starting at Rs.1,499 in Ullagaram.
Why Us

Why Ullagaram Businesses Choose ChennaiGST

Not a bulk-filing portal. A senior consultant knows your file, your jurisdiction and your deadlines.

✓

Transparent, Fixed Fees Quoted Upfront

You are told the full fee before we begin, in writing. No surprise additions for uploads, revisions or acknowledgements. Government fees and taxes, where applicable, are shown separately, so businesses in Ullagaram always know exactly what the engagement costs them.

✓

ITC Maximisation Within the Law

We match your purchase register against GSTR-2B every period, follow up on invoices your suppliers have not uploaded, and ensure every rupee of eligible input tax credit is claimed. Clients routinely recover credit they were silently losing under self-filing.

✓

Ledger Housekeeping on the Portal

Your cash ledger, credit ledger and liability register are reviewed regularly, not just at filing time. Excess balances are flagged for use or refund, and where a genuine slip surfaces, a voluntary payment through DRC-03 settles it before it can mature into a notice.

✓

No Handing Off to Untrained Juniors

Your work is executed by trained GST staff working under direct senior supervision, not passed to interns learning on your file. The person preparing your return understands reverse charge, blocked credits and place of supply, because getting these wrong costs you money.

✓

Correct HSN Codes and Rates, Verified

GSTR-1 requires four-digit HSN reporting for turnover up to Rs.5 crore and six digits above it, and a wrong code often means a wrong rate. We verify the classification of what you actually supply, so your invoices and returns rest on defensible codes.

✓

Job Work Movements Tracked Through ITC-04

Goods sent to job workers must move on delivery challans, return within the statutory period, and be reported in ITC-04. We track every outward and return leg for manufacturing clients in Ullagaram, so inputs sent out for processing never quietly convert into a deemed supply carrying tax and interest.

How It Works

Our GST Registration Process

Document collection

You share PAN, Aadhaar, photographs, address proof and bank details over WhatsApp or email. We review each document against portal requirements and flag anything that could trigger an officer query.

Application preparation

We draft Form GST REG-01 with the correct business constitution, principal place of business, HSN or SAC codes and authorised signatory details, then share a summary for your confirmation.

Filing and Aadhaar authentication

The application is filed on the GST portal and we guide the authorised signatory through Aadhaar OTP authentication, which speeds up approval and usually avoids physical verification of premises.

Query handling

We track the ARN daily. If the officer issues a notice in Form REG-03 seeking clarification, we draft and file the reply in Form REG-04 within the permitted time.

GSTIN delivery and handover

Once approved, we download your registration certificate in Form REG-06, help set up portal login credentials, and brief you on invoice format, return due dates and e-way bill obligations.

Outcomes

What You Get

Practical outcomes our clients measure us by.

★

Growth Without Compliance Anxiety

New branches, new product lines and interstate sales all carry GST consequences. With standing professional support, you expand knowing registrations, invoicing and returns will keep pace with the business.

★

Fewer Departmental Notices

Consistent, reconciled returns give the department's matching systems nothing to flag. Clients who move to us after years of self-filing typically see scrutiny queries and mismatch notices fall away within a few filing cycles.

★

Due-Diligence Ready for Investors and Buyers

Funding rounds, partnerships and business sales all begin with a compliance check. A clean, documented GST history lets you clear that scrutiny quickly instead of watching a deal stall over old filing gaps.

★

Advances Treated Correctly

Advances received for services attract GST on receipt while advances for goods generally do not; applying this distinction correctly means you neither prepay tax unnecessarily nor omit a liability that surfaces later with interest.

★

Waiver Benefits Never Missed

Late-fee waivers and amnesty windows notified by the GST Council are applied to your history within their deadlines, capturing reliefs that most businesses only hear about once the window has already closed.

★

Lower Total Cost of Compliance

A fixed professional fee is almost always cheaper than the combination of late fees, interest, lost credit and staff hours that informal, last-minute compliance quietly accumulates over a year.

Why a Specialist Matters

With ChennaiGST vs Doing It Yourself

AspectWith ChennaiGSTDIY / Unattended
Portal credentials and dataLogins handled by a small engaged team under strict confidentiality, with credentials stored securely and never passed onward.Passwords circulating on chats with freelancers and part-timers, and no accountability for who has accessed your business data.
Record keepingEvery return, challan, acknowledgement and working paper archived in an organised folder, retrievable in minutes years later.Documents scattered across email, downloads and old phones; assembling records for a bank or an audit takes days.
Risk of noticesGSTR-1, GSTR-3B and GSTR-2B reconciled before filing, removing the mismatches that trigger most scrutiny notices.Inconsistent figures across returns quietly build a mismatch history that surfaces later as ASMT-10 scrutiny or a demand notice.
Goods in transitE-way bills generated correctly and matched to invoices, so consignments pass roadside inspections without detention or penalty.A defective or missing e-way bill can mean detention at a checkpoint, with penalties that dwarf the tax on the consignment.
Supplier defaultsSuppliers who stop uploading invoices are identified within the period and pursued before their default becomes your blocked credit.Missing supplier invoices surface only when credit is denied, by which time recovering the amount from the vendor is difficult.
Time costRoughly an hour a month to send data and approve drafts; the portal work, reconciliation and follow-up are ours.Hours every month lost to portal errors, JSON files, OTP failures and reworking figures — usually on the due date itself.

AAR Ruling

Money received by a liaison office from its head office is not a supply

Takko Holding GmbH, India liaison office - AAR Tamil Nadu, Order No. TN/14/AAR/2018, dated 27 September 2018 · 2018-09-27

A German company's liaison office in Tamil Nadu carried on only the representational and coordination activities permitted by the Reserve Bank of India and received funds from its head office to meet office expenses. The Authority held that liaison activities carried on strictly within the RBI permission do not amount to a supply under the CGST and TNGST Acts, the remittances from the head office are not consideration, and the liaison office is neither liable to pay GST nor required to register.

Why this matters: A genuine liaison office in Chennai doing only representational work stays outside GST, but any commercial activity changes that position.

Portal Advisory

Geocoding of business address made available across India

GSTN Advisory, 2023 — geocoding of the principal place of business enabled for all States and Union Territories · 2023

GSTN rolled out a geocoding facility that converts the address of the principal place of business into map coordinates, so the location on the registration certificate can be verified against the ground position. After a pilot in a few states, the functionality was extended to normal, composition, casual, SEZ and input service distributor taxpayers in every State and Union Territory during 2023, and geocoding of additional places of business followed. Geocoding does not change the address recorded in the registration.

What it means for you: Complete geocoding for your Chennai premises and any godown, as an unverified address can delay amendments, refunds and physical verification clearance.

Circular

Snack pellets, fish soluble paste and imitation zari clarified at 5 per cent

Circular No. 200/12/2023-GST, dated 1 August 2023 · 2023-08-01

Giving effect to the 50th GST Council decisions, CBIC clarified that un-fried and uncooked snack pellets manufactured by extrusion are classifiable under tariff item 1905 90 30 and attract five per cent with effect from 27 July 2023, and that fish soluble paste moved from eighteen to five per cent from the same date. Imitation zari thread or yarn made from metallised polyester or plastic film was placed at five per cent, and past periods were regularised on an as-is basis.

What it means for you: Snack and zari manufacturers in and around Chennai got both a lower rate and protection for past periods, so old demands on these items should be contested with this circular.

FAQs

Frequently Asked Questions

Straight answers from practising GST consultants — based on the CGST Act, current CBIC notifications and day-to-day portal experience.

Are there any hidden charges for new GST registration?
No. The fee quoted before we start is the fee you pay. Government fees, portal charges or statutory late fees, where they apply, are separate and disclosed to you in advance with the exact amount. We issue a proper GST invoice for our professional fee. If the scope of work changes — for example, an unexpected notice or additional periods — we tell you the revised fee before doing anything further.
How long does new GST registration take in Ullagaram?
3-7 working days. That assumes your documents are complete and there is no departmental query. We start the same day we receive your papers and tell you the realistic completion date upfront rather than an optimistic one. Where the GST portal or the officer causes delay — clarifications, physical verification or system issues — we track it daily and keep you informed on WhatsApp.
Is Aadhaar authentication compulsory for GST registration?
Aadhaar authentication is not compulsory, but it is strongly recommended. When the promoter and authorised signatory complete Aadhaar OTP authentication, the application is processed on the fast track and deemed approval applies if the officer does not act within seven working days. Without Aadhaar authentication, the department treats the application as higher risk, physical verification of the business premises is usually ordered, and approval can take up to thirty days. Most applicants in Ullagaram finish the OTP step in minutes, so there is rarely a reason to skip it unless the Aadhaar-linked mobile number is inactive.
We have branches in three states. What is ISD registration and do we need it?
An Input Service Distributor is a head office that receives invoices for common input services, such as audit fees or software subscriptions, and distributes the input tax credit to branches with separate GSTINs. ISD requires a separate registration in Form REG-01, distinct from your normal registration on the same PAN, and the ISD files monthly GSTR-6 by the 13th to distribute credit. Following amendments made effective from 1 April 2025, distributing common input service credit through the ISD mechanism is mandatory for multi-state businesses, so head offices in Ullagaram with out-of-state branches should obtain ISD registration without delay.
I just received my GSTIN. What returns do I need to start filing?
From your first tax period, a regular taxpayer files GSTR-1, the outward supplies statement, by the 11th of the following month, and GSTR-3B, the summary return with tax payment, by the 20th. If your expected turnover is up to Rs.5 crore, you can opt for the QRMP scheme: returns become quarterly, GSTR-3B is due by the 22nd of the month after the quarter for Tamil Nadu, monthly tax is paid by challan, and the optional IFF by the 13th lets you pass credit to buyers monthly. Returns are mandatory even for nil turnover; the nil late fee is Rs.20 per day. Call +91 - 9600 606 444 and we will set up your filing calendar.
I received a clarification notice on my GST application. What should I do?
The officer has issued Form REG-03 seeking clarification, additional documents or corrections, commonly for address proof mismatches or unclear photographs. You must respond in Form REG-04 through the portal within seven working days of the notice, attaching the corrected documents and a clear written explanation. If the reply satisfies the officer, registration is approved; if you fail to reply or the reply is inadequate, the application is rejected in Form REG-05 and you must apply afresh. Many applicants in Ullagaram come to us at exactly this stage; a precise, document-backed REG-04 usually resolves it. Call +91 - 9600 606 444 for help.
I billed customers while my GST registration was being processed. What is a revised invoice?
Registration takes effect from the date you became liable, but your GSTIN arrives only when the certificate is issued. For supplies made between the effective date of registration and the date the certificate was granted, Rule 53 allows you to issue revised invoices against the original bills, within one month from the date of issuance of the certificate. The revised invoice carries your GSTIN, is marked as a revised invoice, and references the original invoice number and date. This lets your registered buyers in Ullagaram claim input credit for that interim period. A consolidated revised invoice is permitted for unregistered buyers within a state.
I am a doctor running my own clinic. Do I need GST registration at all?
If your entire income consists of exempt healthcare services, no. Section 23 provides that a person engaged exclusively in supplying exempt goods or services is not liable to registration, irrespective of turnover, so a practitioner earning even Rs.1 crore purely from consultations and treatment need not register. The position changes the moment taxable income enters the same PAN, such as commercial property rent, pharmacy sales to outpatients, aesthetic procedures or paid webinars for a company; then the normal Rs.20 lakh aggregate threshold applies, counting the exempt receipts too. Many doctors in Ullagaram cross the line through rental income without noticing.
How does a used car dealer in Ullagaram pay GST when reselling vehicles?
A registered dealer buying and reselling used vehicles pays GST under the margin scheme on the difference between the selling price and the purchase price, with no tax payable where the margin is negative. Following the 55th GST Council's decision, notified in January 2025, the rate on this margin is a uniform 18% for all old and used vehicles, including electric vehicles, replacing the earlier split rates. Purchases from individual sellers attract no GST, and no input credit is involved in the chain. Keep vehicle-wise purchase and sale records, because the margin must be demonstrable car by car. Call +91 - 9600 606 444 for the working format.
When is GSTR-1 due for my business in Ullagaram?
GSTR-1, the statement of outward supplies, is due on the 11th of the following month for taxpayers filing monthly. If you have opted for the QRMP scheme, the quarterly GSTR-1 is due on the 13th of the month after the quarter ends. Filing on time matters because your invoices flow into your buyers' GSTR-2B, which decides their input tax credit. Our team in Ullagaram tracks these dates for every client so nothing slips. Call +91 - 9600 606 444 if you need a filing reminder set up.
I have a day job plus freelance income and a small rental. What counts towards my GST turnover?
Salary is excluded entirely, because services by an employee to an employer in the course of employment are outside GST under Schedule III. Everything else you supply counts in aggregate turnover: freelance fees, export receipts, and even exempt income such as rent from a residential dwelling let out for residence. So a person earning Rs.15 lakh from freelancing and Rs.6 lakh from rent has crossed Rs.20 lakh and must register, even though the rent itself remains exempt. This clubbing rule surprises many moonlighting professionals; a short call on +91 - 9600 606 444 can confirm exactly where you stand.
How do I file Form PMT-09 to move money between heads in my cash ledger?
Log in and open Services, then Ledgers, then Electronic Cash Ledger, and select File GST PMT-09 for transfer of amount. The screen shows your balance under each major and minor head. Choose the transfer-from head and amount, choose the transfer-to head, add the details to the table, preview and file with DSC or EVC. The transfer reflects in the ledger immediately and an ARN is generated for your records. There is no limit on how often PMT-09 can be filed, and no government fee applies, so it is always the first fix for a wrong-head deposit.
What is the difference between ISD and cross-charge, and when is each used?
They solve different problems. The Input Service Distributor mechanism distributes credit on third-party input services received at the head office but consumed by branches, such as an audit fee or software licence billed centrally; the ISD passes the credit itself through ISD invoices and GSTR-6, without charging tax again. Cross-charge applies where the head office performs a service for branches using its own resources; here the head office makes an outward supply, issues a tax invoice with tax, and the branch claims ITC. With ISD distribution mandatory for common third-party input services from 1 April 2025, businesses must now run both mechanisms side by side, each for its correct category.
What details must a GST tax invoice compulsorily contain?
Rule 46 of the CGST Rules prescribes the mandatory contents: your name, address and GSTIN; a consecutive serial number not exceeding sixteen characters, unique for the financial year; the date of issue; the recipient's name, address and GSTIN if registered; the HSN or SAC code; description, quantity and unit; total and taxable value; any discount; the rate and amount of CGST, SGST or IGST shown separately; place of supply with the state name for inter-state supplies; a declaration where tax is payable on reverse charge; and signature or digital signature of the supplier. Missing fields make the invoice defective and can jeopardise your buyer's credit.
I have taken a house on rent and I am GST registered. Does reverse charge hit my house rent?
Only in defined situations. From 18 July 2022, renting of a residential dwelling to a registered person attracts 18 percent under reverse charge in the tenant's hands. However, where a registered proprietor rents the dwelling in a personal capacity for use as his own residence, and on his own account rather than for the business, the exemption applies and no tax arises. If a company takes a flat as a guest house or for employee accommodation, RCM applies, and note that ITC on such rent may face challenge as a personal consumption expense. Document the purpose of the tenancy in the rent agreement so the correct treatment is defensible.
If I open a bulk bag and sell rice loose by weight, is that sale taxable?
No. The 5% levy on specified food items applies only when they are supplied in pre-packaged and labelled form in packs up to 25 kilograms. When a retailer opens bulk stock and weighs out loose quantities against each customer's order, the supply is not of a pre-packaged commodity, so it remains exempt. What you cannot do is sell an intact labelled retail pack and bill it as loose. Keep purchase records showing bulk procurement and maintain the loose counter separately from the packed shelf, because officers test this distinction during inspections of grocery businesses. When in doubt on a product, call +91 - 9600 606 444.
What is the place of supply for freight and courier charges on goods?
For transportation of goods, including by courier, Section 12(8) fixes the place of supply as the location of the recipient where the recipient is registered. Where the recipient is unregistered, it is the location where the goods are handed over for transportation. So a registered Ullagaram manufacturer paying a transporter for a Chennai-to-Delhi movement has Tamil Nadu as the place of supply, and the RCM liability is paid as CGST plus SGST if the transporter is also in Tamil Nadu. This rule matters chiefly for paying reverse charge on GTA freight under the correct heads, because paying IGST where CGST and SGST were due creates a refund-and-repay exercise later.
How do I document free samples and gifts given to customers?
Goods supplied genuinely free of cost to unrelated persons are not a supply, so no tax invoice is raised and no GST is charged; the movement is covered by a delivery challan marked as free samples. The cost is that input tax credit on those goods must be reversed. Two traps deserve care: gifts to related persons or between distinct GSTINs of the same PAN are taxable under Schedule I even without consideration, and promotional schemes like buy one get one are treated as a single price for two items, taxed normally with credit intact. Structure your Ullagaram promotions with this distinction in mind.
