Trade Profile and GST Jurisdiction for Ashoka Avenue, Kolathur

Kolathur is India's best-known ornamental fish hub, with breeding farms and aquarium shops clustered off Red Hills Road near Retteri junction, alongside hardware stores and construction material suppliers serving fast-growing residential pockets like Poombuhar Nagar. Many fish breeders and online sellers cross the Rs.40 lakh goods threshold without realising it, making first-time registration and e-commerce reporting the local GST pain point. Against that backdrop, GSTR-1 & GSTR-3B Monthly Filing in Kolathur demands more than data entry — it needs reconciliation before filing, correct classification and awareness of what local officers examine. Our Chennai team provides exactly that to clients in Kolathur, Villivakkam and Perambur, with same-day responses on working days and WhatsApp updates at every stage. Most routine engagements complete within one to two working days once documents are in hand.

GST jurisdiction for Kolathur (PIN 600099): businesses here generally fall under the CGST Chennai North Commissionerate. We regularly represent clients from Kolathur before this jurisdiction for registrations, clarifications and notice hearings, and can confirm your exact division and range from your GSTIN. State-jurisdiction cases are handled with the Tamil Nadu Commercial Taxes Department.
GST for Hardware and Electrical Dealers in Kolathur
A hardware and electrical counter stocks thousands of SKUs whose rates have moved: cement fell from 28 to 18 percent under the September 2025 rationalisation, while wires, switchgear, paints and sanitaryware sit at 18 percent. When a rate changes, Section 14 decides which rate applies based on the dates of supply, invoice and payment, so transition-period billing needs care. Dealer schemes and cash discounts from manufacturers arrive as credit notes that must be tracked against your input credit. A specialist maintains an item-wise HSN and rate master, applies Section 14 correctly during rate changes, and reconciles supplier credit notes so your GSTR-2B never overstates credit.
Yes, GSTR-1 & GSTR-3B Monthly Filing in Kolathur can be completed fully online — no office visit is required at any stage, since e-signatures, OTP verification and digital document exchange cover the entire formality, with fees from Rs.749.
Why Us

Why Ashoka Avenue, Kolathur Businesses Choose ChennaiGST

Not a bulk-filing portal. A senior consultant knows your file, your jurisdiction and your deadlines.

Zero Tolerance for Late Fees and Interest

GSTR-3B late fees run at Rs.50 per day and interest at 18 percent per annum on unpaid tax. Our internal cut-offs sit days ahead of statutory due dates precisely so that our clients never hand the department a rupee they did not owe.

E-Commerce Seller Reconciliation, Including TCS

Sellers on Amazon, Flipkart and other marketplaces face a three-way match between marketplace reports, GSTR-1 and the TCS the operator deposits against your GSTIN. We reconcile all three every period and accept the TCS credit, so sellers in Kolathur never leave marketplace deductions unclaimed.

Experience Across Trades and Sectors

Traders, manufacturers, contractors, e-commerce sellers, professionals and service exporters — we have handled GST for all of them. Whatever mix of goods and services your Kolathur business supplies, the rate, classification and place-of-supply questions have almost certainly crossed our desk before.

Handholding for First-Time Registrants

A new GSTIN comes with obligations nobody explains at approval — the invoice series rules, displaying the registration certificate and GSTIN at your premises, and the first return cycle. We walk new registrants in Kolathur through each of these so month one starts correctly.

Proactive Alerts Before Problems Become Notices

If your GSTR-1 and GSTR-3B start drifting apart, if a large supplier stops filing, or if your turnover approaches the e-invoice threshold, we flag it to you immediately. Early warnings from our side are cheaper than departmental letters later.

Transparent, Fixed Fees Quoted Upfront

You are told the full fee before we begin, in writing. No surprise additions for uploads, revisions or acknowledgements. Government fees and taxes, where applicable, are shown separately, so businesses in Kolathur always know exactly what the engagement costs them.

How It Works

Our Monthly Returns Process

Monthly data collection

At month end we remind you and collect sales invoices, purchase bills and credit notes in whatever format you maintain, including Excel, Tally exports or scanned copies.

GSTR-1 preparation and filing

We prepare invoice-wise outward supply details, validate GSTINs of your B2B customers, summarise B2C supplies and file GSTR-1 on the portal before the 11th.

ITC reconciliation with GSTR-2B

We download your auto-drafted GSTR-2B, match it against purchase records, and claim only eligible input tax credit so that mismatches do not trigger scrutiny notices later.

Tax computation and confirmation

We compute net tax payable after ITC set-off, share the working with you for approval, and generate the payment challan for any cash liability.

GSTR-3B filing and reporting

After your confirmation and tax payment, we file GSTR-3B before the 20th and send you both filed acknowledgements along with a one-page summary of the month.

Outcomes

What You Get

Practical outcomes our clients measure us by.

Confidence During Officer Interactions

When a query or verification comes, you respond through a professional who deals with the department regularly, in the department's own language and format, instead of facing an officer's letter alone.

No More Late Fees

With returns filed ahead of the statutory due dates every period, the Rs.50-per-day GSTR-3B late fee simply stops appearing in your life, and the money stays in your business where it belongs.

TDS and TCS Credits Converted to Cash

Amounts deducted by government buyers as GST TDS and by marketplaces as TCS are accepted on the portal each period, so money withheld against your GSTIN actually reaches your cash ledger instead of lying unclaimed.

Compliance That Continues When You Travel

Illness, travel or a family function no longer threatens a deadline. With a standing external process holding your calendar and data trail, filings proceed on schedule whether or not you are at your desk.

Slips Settled Before They Become Notices

Where a genuine error is found in a past period, voluntary payment through DRC-03 before any notice issues closes the matter at minimal cost, instead of letting it ripen into a demand with penalty.

Growth Without Compliance Anxiety

New branches, new product lines and interstate sales all carry GST consequences. With standing professional support, you expand knowing registrations, invoicing and returns will keep pace with the business.

Why a Specialist Matters

With ChennaiGST vs Doing It Yourself

AspectWith ChennaiGSTDIY / Unattended
Refund claimsRFD-01 filed with complete statements and annexures, tracked from ARN to bank credit, with any deficiency memo answered promptly.Incomplete claims bounce back as deficiency memos while the refund sits unclaimed for months and working capital stays blocked.
Annual return preparationMonthly reconciliations roll naturally into GSTR-9, filed comfortably before 31 December with figures already agreed through the year.Twelve months of unmatched data reconstructed in December, with differences discovered too late to be corrected cleanly.
Keeping up with changesRate changes, portal updates and new thresholds such as the Rs.5 crore e-invoice limit are tracked by us and applied to your case proactively.Changes are discovered after the fact — often through a rejected filing, a blocked e-way bill or a departmental letter.
Time costRoughly an hour a month to send data and approve drafts; the portal work, reconciliation and follow-up are ours.Hours every month lost to portal errors, JSON files, OTP failures and reworking figures — usually on the due date itself.
Supplier defaultsSuppliers who stop uploading invoices are identified within the period and pursued before their default becomes your blocked credit.Missing supplier invoices surface only when credit is denied, by which time recovering the amount from the vendor is difficult.
Due-date trackingA maintained compliance calendar with internal cut-offs days before the 11th and the 20th; we chase you for data, not the other way around.Deadlines remembered from memory or phone alarms; one busy week and the return slips past the due date.
Case Law & Notifications

What the Department and the Courts Have Said — relevant to Kolathur businesses

We track every notification, circular and judgment that changes a filing position, so your returns and replies reflect the current law.

Circular

Further clarifications on warranty replacements and extended warranty

Circular No. 216/10/2024-GST · 2024-06-26

This circular amends and supplements the earlier warranty circular. It extends the treatment from replacement of parts to replacement of goods or their parts, so that a full product replacement under warranty is covered on the same basis, with no GST and no credit reversal. It also addresses the position where a distributor replaces goods out of its own stock and is later replenished by the manufacturer, and the treatment of extended warranty sold separately after the original supply.

How we apply it: Chennai dealers who swap out an entire defective product under warranty are now expressly covered, so no output tax or credit reversal is required.

Notification

Dynamic QR code made compulsory on B2C invoices of large suppliers

Notification No. 14/2020-Central Tax · 2020-03-21

Registered persons with aggregate turnover above Rs 500 crore were required to print a dynamic quick response code on invoices issued to unregistered consumers, so that the customer could scan and pay digitally. Where the payment is made through a prescribed dynamic QR code, the cross-reference of that payment on the invoice is treated as compliance. The same exclusions as e-invoicing apply. The start date was pushed from 1 April 2020 to 1 October 2020 and then to 1 December 2020.

What to do about it: Only very large retailers are covered, so an ordinary Chennai shop or restaurant has no dynamic QR code obligation on its cash-counter bills.

AAR Ruling

Carbonated fruit drinks classified as carbonated beverages, not fruit juice drinks

Rich Dairy Products (India) Pvt Ltd - AAR Tamil Nadu (2019), upheld by AAAR Tamil Nadu, Order No. TN/AAAR/01/2020 · 2019

The Namakkal manufacturer made carbonated beverages containing fruit juice and sought classification under the fruit pulp or fruit juice based drinks entry taxed at 12 percent. The Authority held that once carbon dioxide is added the product is classifiable under heading 2202 10 as waters containing added carbon dioxide and flavouring, and not as fruit juice under heading 2009, so the higher rate applicable to that entry along with compensation cess applies. The Appellate Authority upheld that view.

Why this matters: Chennai beverage makers must check whether the drink is carbonated before applying the 12 percent fruit drink rate.

FAQs

Frequently Asked Questions

Straight answers from practising GST consultants — based on the CGST Act, current CBIC notifications and day-to-day portal experience.

How much does GSTR-1 & GSTR-3B monthly filing cost in Kolathur?
Our fee for GSTR-1 & GSTR-3B monthly filing in Kolathur starts at Rs.749/month and is quoted in full before we begin — there are no hidden charges added later. The fee covers professional work end to end: document review, preparation, filing and follow-up until completion. Government fees or portal charges, where applicable, are separate and always shown to you upfront. For an exact quote based on your turnover and business type, call +91 - 9600 606 444 and a consultant will confirm it on the call.
Is there a GST consultant near Kolathur for gst return filing?
Yes. We serve Kolathur and the surrounding areas from our office at Porur, Chennai - 600 116, Tamil Nadu, and most monthly returns work is completed online — you send documents on WhatsApp and we handle the portal work. If you prefer in-person help, we offer doorstep document pickup across Kolathur and you are welcome to visit our office. Reach us on +91 - 9600 606 444 between 9 AM and 8 PM, Monday to Saturday.
We hire security guards from an agency. Should they charge GST or should we pay it ourselves?
Check the agency's constitution. Since 1 January 2019, security services by way of supply of security personnel provided by any person other than a body corporate to a registered person fall under reverse charge, so your business pays the 18 percent directly and claims credit. If the agency is a body corporate, such as a private limited company, it charges GST under forward charge on its invoice. Recipients registered under the composition scheme are excluded from this reverse charge entry. Businesses in Kolathur commonly pay agencies' forward-charge invoices while also missing their own RCM cases, so an annual review of security and manpower bills is worthwhile.
Why is the portal not letting me file GSTR-1?
Under Rule 59(6) of the CGST Rules, the portal blocks GSTR-1 filing if the GSTR-3B of the preceding tax period has not been filed. GST returns are sequential, so a single skipped GSTR-3B stops the entire chain. The fix is to file the pending GSTR-3B along with its late fee and interest, after which GSTR-1 opens up again. If you are unsure which period is pending, we can check your dashboard and clear the sequence for you the same day from our office near Kolathur.
How exactly do I pay RCM in my return and claim it back as credit?
Report the taxable value and tax in Table 3.1(d) of GSTR-3B; this liability must be discharged in cash through the electronic cash ledger, because input tax credit cannot be used to pay reverse charge dues. In the same return, claim the amount as ITC in Table 4(A)(2) or 4(A)(3), so the net impact is usually nil. RCM invoices from registered suppliers like GTAs appear in GSTR-2B, but credit for unregistered-supplier RCM rests on your self-invoice, and Circular 211/5/2024 confirms the Section 16(4) deadline runs from the year of that self-invoice. Businesses in Kolathur that skip the 3.1(d) reporting but claim the credit invite automatic mismatch flags.
My landlord in Kolathur has no GSTIN but my business is registered. Who pays GST on the shop rent?
You do. With effect from 10 October 2024, renting of immovable property other than a residential dwelling by an unregistered person to a registered person was brought under reverse charge through Notification 09/2024-Central Tax (Rate). So a registered trader renting a shop from an unregistered landlord must pay 18 percent under RCM through GSTR-3B and can claim it back as input tax credit if eligible. Composition taxpayers have since been kept outside this entry, given they cannot claim credit. Many small businesses in Kolathur are still unaware of this 2024 change, and scrutiny notices on rent entries have already begun appearing. Call +91 - 9600 606 444 to regularise past months.
When can I issue a GST credit note against my sales invoice?
Section 34 permits a credit note where the taxable value or tax charged in the invoice exceeds what is actually payable, where the goods are returned by the recipient, or where the goods or services are found deficient. The credit note references the original invoice, and reporting it in your GSTR-1 reduces your output tax liability for that period. It is the correct tool for sales returns, rate errors and quality claims. What a credit note cannot do is cancel an e-invoice after the twenty-four hour IRP window or rewrite history for a different customer; it must trace to a genuine adjustment on an identified invoice.
What is the due date for GSTR-3B in Tamil Nadu?
For monthly filers, GSTR-3B is due on the 20th of the following month. If you are registered in Tamil Nadu and have opted for the QRMP scheme, your quarterly GSTR-3B is due on the 22nd of the month following the quarter. GSTR-3B is the summary return through which you actually pay tax, so missing it attracts a late fee of Rs.50 per day (Rs.20 for nil returns) plus interest at 18 percent per annum on tax paid late.
Is there a late fee if I delay the monthly PMT-06 payment under QRMP?
No late fee applies to a delayed PMT-06 deposit, because late fee is linked only to returns. However, interest at 18 percent per annum is payable on the shortfall for the delay period. Note that if you used the fixed sum method and paid the pre-filled 35 percent amount on time, no interest applies for the first two months even if actual liability was higher, provided the balance is paid in the quarterly GSTR-3B by its due date. Late fee does apply if the quarterly GSTR-1 or GSTR-3B itself is filed late.
I am under QRMP in Chennai. When is my quarterly GSTR-3B due?
For taxpayers registered in Tamil Nadu, which falls in the category of states with the earlier date, the quarterly GSTR-3B under QRMP is due on the 22nd of the month following the quarter. So the return for April to June is due by 22 July, and so on for each quarter. The quarterly GSTR-1 is due by the 13th of the same month. Mark both dates, because late fee and 18 percent interest apply on delays just as they do for monthly filers. Call +91 - 9600 606 444 if you want us to manage the calendar.
What is the difference between GSTR-2A and GSTR-2B, and which one should I follow?
GSTR-2A is a dynamic statement that keeps changing as suppliers file or amend their returns, so the same month's data can look different on different dates. GSTR-2B is a static statement generated on the 14th of each month, capturing supplier filings between cut-off dates, and it never changes afterwards. The law ties your ITC eligibility to GSTR-2B, and GSTR-3B auto-populates from it, so 2B is the statement to reconcile against for monthly claims. GSTR-2A remains useful for tracing when an invoice was actually uploaded, which helps in replying to departmental queries about earlier periods.
Do I have to issue an invoice for every small cash sale in my shop?
Not necessarily. Where the value of a supply is less than Rs.200, the buyer is unregistered, and the buyer does not ask for an invoice, you may skip issuing an individual tax invoice. Instead, you must prepare one consolidated tax invoice at the close of each day covering all such small sales. The moment a customer demands an invoice, or the sale is Rs.200 or more, a proper invoice is required. Retail counters typically issue system receipts to every customer anyway, which is cleaner practice, but the daily consolidated invoice is the legal minimum for petty sales.
By when must I issue a tax invoice when I sell goods?
For goods, Section 31 requires the tax invoice to be issued before or at the time of removal of the goods, where the supply involves movement, or before or at the time of delivery or making the goods available in other cases. In simple terms, the invoice must travel with the goods; a lorry leaving your Kolathur godown without an invoice is exposed to detention even if the e-way bill exists. For continuous supplies of goods with successive statements or payments, the invoice must be issued when each statement is issued or each payment is received.
Which goods and services attract the new 40 percent GST rate?
The 40 percent rate is confined to luxury and demerit supplies. It covers aerated waters, caffeinated and other sugary carbonated beverages, large cars beyond the small-car specifications, motorcycles above 350cc, yachts, personal aircraft, and specified actionable claims such as betting, casinos and online money gaming. Pan masala and tobacco products continue under their earlier levy structure until the compensation cess obligations are discharged, after which they move to the 40 percent rate as notified. If your business deals in any of these lines, pricing and working capital need careful planning.
Which purchases commonly attract GST under reverse charge for a regular business?
Under Section 9(3), the recipient pays tax on notified supplies. The entries a typical business in Kolathur encounters are: goods transport agency services, services of advocates and arbitral tribunals, sponsorship provided to companies and partnership firms, services of directors, security services from non-corporate providers, renting of passenger motor vehicles from non-corporate operators charging five percent, import of services, and renting of property from unregistered landlords in notified cases. Each month, scan your expense ledger for these heads, pay the tax in cash through GSTR-3B, and claim it back as ITC where eligible. Missed RCM is among the top audit findings; call +91 - 9600 606 444 for an RCM exposure review.
What details must a GST tax invoice compulsorily contain?
Rule 46 of the CGST Rules prescribes the mandatory contents: your name, address and GSTIN; a consecutive serial number not exceeding sixteen characters, unique for the financial year; the date of issue; the recipient's name, address and GSTIN if registered; the HSN or SAC code; description, quantity and unit; total and taxable value; any discount; the rate and amount of CGST, SGST or IGST shown separately; place of supply with the state name for inter-state supplies; a declaration where tax is payable on reverse charge; and signature or digital signature of the supplier. Missing fields make the invoice defective and can jeopardise your buyer's credit.
What is the difference between ISD and cross-charge, and when is each used?
They solve different problems. The Input Service Distributor mechanism distributes credit on third-party input services received at the head office but consumed by branches, such as an audit fee or software licence billed centrally; the ISD passes the credit itself through ISD invoices and GSTR-6, without charging tax again. Cross-charge applies where the head office performs a service for branches using its own resources; here the head office makes an outward supply, issues a tax invoice with tax, and the branch claims ITC. With ISD distribution mandatory for common third-party input services from 1 April 2025, businesses must now run both mechanisms side by side, each for its correct category.
Can one invoice contain items taxed at different GST rates?
Yes, there is no requirement to issue separate invoices per rate. A single tax invoice can carry multiple line items, each with its own HSN code, taxable value, rate and tax amount, and the totals section simply aggregates the tax rate-wise. A hardware store in Kolathur can bill cement at 18 percent and certain tools at 5 percent on one document. What matters is that each line is classified and taxed correctly, and that mixed baskets are not collapsed into one rate. Be careful with genuine composite supplies, where one principal supply drives a single rate; that is a classification question, not an invoicing one.
Can I get GSTR-1 & GSTR-3B monthly filing done online without visiting the office?
Yes, the entire process can be handled online. You share scanned documents on WhatsApp or email, we prepare and file everything on the GST portal, and you receive the acknowledgement and filed copies digitally. Businesses in Kolathur regularly complete monthly returns with us without a single office visit. If a physical verification or personal hearing is required by the department, we guide you through it.
What documents are required for GSTR-1 & GSTR-3B monthly filing in Kolathur?
For GSTR-1 & GSTR-3B monthly filing you will generally need: Sales invoices or sales register for the month, Purchase invoices or purchase register, Credit notes and debit notes issued during the month, GST portal login credentials, Bank statement for the period, if reconciliation is needed. The exact list depends on your constitution — proprietorship, partnership, LLP or company — and on the specifics of your case. Send what you have on WhatsApp to +91 - 9600 606 444 and we will confirm within the same working day exactly what else is needed, so nothing is rejected later for a missing paper.
