Trade Profile and GST Jurisdiction for 2nd Cross Street, Mathur MMDA

Mathur MMDA is the Housing Board and MMDA township laid out in numbered main, cross and serial streets off Kamarajar Salai, between the Inner Ring Road and Madhavaram Milk Colony Road. Contractors, fabricators, tanker operators and labour suppliers serving the Manali petrochemical belt at MFL and CPCL sit alongside colony supermarkets, bakeries and hardware shops. Works-contract classification, TDS under Section 51 from PSU buyers and GSTR-2B mismatches dominate the compliance load. From a first registration to the annual return, the full range of GSTR-1 & GSTR-3B Monthly Filing is available to Mathur MMDA businesses without stepping far from the shop or office — documents travel over WhatsApp, and our Chennai premises are open to anyone who prefers a face-to-face discussion. We serve Manali and Manali New Town on the same footing, applying one rule everywhere: reconcile before filing, file before the due date, and keep the client informed at every stage.

GST jurisdiction for Mathur MMDA (PIN 600068): businesses here generally fall under the CGST Chennai North Commissionerate. We regularly represent clients from Mathur MMDA before this jurisdiction for registrations, clarifications and notice hearings, and can confirm your exact division and range from your GSTIN. State-jurisdiction cases are handled with the Tamil Nadu Commercial Taxes Department.
GST for Educational Institutions in Mathur MMDA
Education enjoys exemption only within defined walls: institutions providing recognised board or university qualifications are exempt under Entry 66 of Notification 12/2017, along with their transport, catering and examination services to students. Coaching centres, skill academies and training institutes fall outside the entry and pay 18 percent. An organisation running both a recognised school and a commercial coaching wing must segregate the streams, reverse proportionate input credit under Rule 42 on the exempt side, and still count exempt fees within aggregate turnover for registration. A specialist structures the two activities, fee invoicing and credit reversals so the exemption claimed for one stream is never endangered by the other.
A GST-focused Chennai practice provides GSTR-1 & GSTR-3B Monthly Filing in Mathur MMDA with senior review, reconciliation against portal data and written fee quotes from Rs.749, rather than template filings from anonymous online portals.
Why Us

Why 2nd Cross Street, Mathur MMDA Businesses Choose ChennaiGST

Not a bulk-filing portal. A senior consultant knows your file, your jurisdiction and your deadlines.

Support in Tamil and English

GST is confusing enough without a language barrier. Our team explains notices, tax positions and filing requirements in plain Tamil or English, whichever you and your staff in Mathur MMDA are comfortable with, and keeps written communication simple and jargon-free.

Job Work Movements Tracked Through ITC-04

Goods sent to job workers must move on delivery challans, return within the statutory period, and be reported in ITC-04. We track every outward and return leg for manufacturing clients in Mathur MMDA, so inputs sent out for processing never quietly convert into a deemed supply carrying tax and interest.

ITC Maximisation Within the Law

We match your purchase register against GSTR-2B every period, follow up on invoices your suppliers have not uploaded, and ensure every rupee of eligible input tax credit is claimed. Clients routinely recover credit they were silently losing under self-filing.

GST Portal Expertise, Including the Difficult Days

OTP failures, DSC errors, stuck submissions on due-date evenings — we deal with the GST portal daily and know the workarounds. When the site misbehaves on the 20th, our team keeps retrying and escalating so your return still goes through.

Strict Data Confidentiality

Your sales figures, supplier lists and login credentials are handled only by our engaged team, stored securely and never shared with any third party. Many of our clients in Mathur MMDA compete with each other; complete confidentiality is a condition of our work.

Ledger Housekeeping on the Portal

Your cash ledger, credit ledger and liability register are reviewed regularly, not just at filing time. Excess balances are flagged for use or refund, and where a genuine slip surfaces, a voluntary payment through DRC-03 settles it before it can mature into a notice.

How It Works

Our Monthly Returns Process

Monthly data collection

At month end we remind you and collect sales invoices, purchase bills and credit notes in whatever format you maintain, including Excel, Tally exports or scanned copies.

GSTR-1 preparation and filing

We prepare invoice-wise outward supply details, validate GSTINs of your B2B customers, summarise B2C supplies and file GSTR-1 on the portal before the 11th.

ITC reconciliation with GSTR-2B

We download your auto-drafted GSTR-2B, match it against purchase records, and claim only eligible input tax credit so that mismatches do not trigger scrutiny notices later.

Tax computation and confirmation

We compute net tax payable after ITC set-off, share the working with you for approval, and generate the payment challan for any cash liability.

GSTR-3B filing and reporting

After your confirmation and tax payment, we file GSTR-3B before the 20th and send you both filed acknowledgements along with a one-page summary of the month.

Outcomes

What You Get

Practical outcomes our clients measure us by.

A Written Trail for Every Decision

Tax positions, rate choices and credit calls are documented as they are made, so if a question arises years later, the reasoning and evidence are on file rather than in someone's fading memory.

Due-Diligence Ready for Investors and Buyers

Funding rounds, partnerships and business sales all begin with a compliance check. A clean, documented GST history lets you clear that scrutiny quickly instead of watching a deal stall over old filing gaps.

Lower Total Cost of Compliance

A fixed professional fee is almost always cheaper than the combination of late fees, interest, lost credit and staff hours that informal, last-minute compliance quietly accumulates over a year.

Books and Returns That Agree at Year End

Because turnover in your GST returns is kept aligned with your accounts through the year, income tax filing and statutory audit proceed without the GST-versus-books mismatch queries that now surface routinely through data matching.

Closure Without Loose Ends

When a business winds up, proper cancellation and a timely final return ensure the file is genuinely closed, so no demand or late-fee computation resurfaces against you long after the shutters came down.

Fewer Errors at the Billing Counter

Your billing staff are guided on invoice fields, rates and series discipline, so mistakes are prevented where they originate — at the counter — instead of being repaired later in the returns.

Why a Specialist Matters

With ChennaiGST vs Doing It Yourself

AspectWith ChennaiGSTDIY / Unattended
Refund claimsRFD-01 filed with complete statements and annexures, tracked from ARN to bank credit, with any deficiency memo answered promptly.Incomplete claims bounce back as deficiency memos while the refund sits unclaimed for months and working capital stays blocked.
Record keepingEvery return, challan, acknowledgement and working paper archived in an organised folder, retrievable in minutes years later.Documents scattered across email, downloads and old phones; assembling records for a bank or an audit takes days.
Goods in transitE-way bills generated correctly and matched to invoices, so consignments pass roadside inspections without detention or penalty.A defective or missing e-way bill can mean detention at a checkpoint, with penalties that dwarf the tax on the consignment.
Time costRoughly an hour a month to send data and approve drafts; the portal work, reconciliation and follow-up are ours.Hours every month lost to portal errors, JSON files, OTP failures and reworking figures — usually on the due date itself.
Input tax creditPurchase register matched against GSTR-2B each period, with defaulting suppliers chased so eligible credit is actually captured.Credit claimed from books alone; mismatches with GSTR-2B mean lost credit or excess claims that invite departmental queries.
Annual return preparationMonthly reconciliations roll naturally into GSTR-9, filed comfortably before 31 December with figures already agreed through the year.Twelve months of unmatched data reconstructed in December, with differences discovered too late to be corrected cleanly.

Compliance Watch

GST Developments Worth Knowing — relevant to Mathur MMDA businesses

A working knowledge of recent instruments and judgments is what separates a defensible filing from a risky one.

AAR Ruling

Agricultural seedling trays are plastic articles taxable at 18 percent

Saro Enterprises - AAR Tamil Nadu (2018), upheld by AAAR Tamil Nadu, order dated 6 February 2019 · 2018

The applicant made polypropylene and recycled plastic trays used by farmers to raise paddy and vegetable seedlings, and argued that they were agricultural implements. The Authority held that the trays are other articles of plastic under heading 3926 90 99 and are taxable at 9 percent central tax and 9 percent State tax. Use in agriculture does not by itself bring a product within the exempt agricultural implements entry, and the material and the tariff description prevail over the end use.

Practical effect: Chennai suppliers to the farm sector cannot assume exemption merely because the buyer uses the product in agriculture.

Notification

The list of services on which the recipient must pay GST under reverse charge

Notification No. 13/2017-Central Tax (Rate) dated 28.06.2017 · 2017-06-28

This notification specifies the categories of services under section 9(3) on which the whole of the tax is payable by the recipient rather than the supplier. The original list covers goods transport agency services, legal services by an individual advocate or firm of advocates, arbitral tribunal services, sponsorship, most services supplied by the Central or State Government or a local authority, services of a director to a company, insurance agent services, recovery agent services and certain transport and copyright services. Entries have been added over the years.

Practical effect: This is the working reverse charge checklist for a Chennai business, and lorry freight, advocate fees and director remuneration are the entries that most often go unreported.

Circular

Delivery address decides place of supply for online sales to unregistered buyers

Circular No. 209/3/2024-GST · 2024-06-26

Clarifying the new clause (ca) of Section 10(1) of the IGST Act, CBIC stated that when goods are supplied to an unregistered person and the billing address differs from the delivery address, the place of supply is the delivery address recorded on the invoice. This principally affects e-commerce transactions, where a buyer may bill in one State and ship to another, and determines whether the seller charges CGST-SGST or IGST.

Why this matters: E-commerce sellers must configure invoicing so tax type follows the delivery address, not the billing address, to avoid wrong-tax demands and refund complications.

FAQs

Frequently Asked Questions

Straight answers from practising GST consultants — based on the CGST Act, current CBIC notifications and day-to-day portal experience.

Is there a GST consultant near Mathur MMDA for gst return filing?
Yes. We serve Mathur MMDA and the surrounding areas from our office at Porur, Chennai - 600 116, Tamil Nadu, and most monthly returns work is completed online — you send documents on WhatsApp and we handle the portal work. If you prefer in-person help, we offer doorstep document pickup across Mathur MMDA and you are welcome to visit our office. Reach us on +91 - 9600 606 444 between 9 AM and 8 PM, Monday to Saturday.
Are there any hidden charges for GSTR-1 & GSTR-3B monthly filing?
No. The fee quoted before we start is the fee you pay. Government fees, portal charges or statutory late fees, where they apply, are separate and disclosed to you in advance with the exact amount. We issue a proper GST invoice for our professional fee. If the scope of work changes — for example, an unexpected notice or additional periods — we tell you the revised fee before doing anything further.
My credit notes this month exceed my sales. Can GSTR-3B show a negative figure?
Yes. Since the January 2024 tax period, the portal permits negative values in Table 3.1 of GSTR-3B where credit notes issued in a month exceed the outward supplies, a situation common in businesses with heavy sales returns. The resulting negative liability is carried forward automatically by the system and adjusted against the liability of subsequent tax periods, so you no longer need to defer reporting credit notes. Ensure the same credit notes are reported in GSTR-1, because GSTR-3B auto-populates from it and manual deviations invite the portal's variance flags. Retailers with seasonal return spikes benefit most from this facility.
When can I issue a GST credit note against my sales invoice?
Section 34 permits a credit note where the taxable value or tax charged in the invoice exceeds what is actually payable, where the goods are returned by the recipient, or where the goods or services are found deficient. The credit note references the original invoice, and reporting it in your GSTR-1 reduces your output tax liability for that period. It is the correct tool for sales returns, rate errors and quality claims. What a credit note cannot do is cancel an e-invoice after the twenty-four hour IRP window or rewrite history for a different customer; it must trace to a genuine adjustment on an identified invoice.
Our Mathur MMDA factory hires lorries through a transport agency. Who pays the GST?
Under the reverse charge entry, when a GTA that has not opted for forward charge provides service to specified recipients, the recipient pays the 5 percent tax. Specified recipients include factories, registered persons, body corporates, partnership firms including AOPs, co-operative societies and casual taxable persons. Your factory therefore pays 5 percent in cash through GSTR-3B, reports it in the reverse charge tables, and claims the same amount as input tax credit since freight is a business expense. Confirm from the transporter's invoice or declaration whether it has opted for forward charge, because paying RCM on an FCM invoice creates double taxation. Call +91 - 9600 606 444 if your freight entries need a review.
What happens if I miss filing GSTR-3B this month?
A late fee of Rs.50 per day (Rs.20 per day for a nil return) accrues automatically, capped based on your turnover, and interest at 18 percent per annum applies on tax paid late. You also cannot file the next period's GSTR-1 until the pending GSTR-3B is filed, since returns must be filed sequentially. If two consecutive tax periods remain unfiled, e-way bill generation gets blocked, and continued default can lead to suspension of your GSTIN. File the pending return at the earliest; call +91 - 9600 606 444 and we can clear the backlog quickly.
How are B2B and B2C invoices reported differently in GST returns?
B2B invoices, meaning supplies to registered buyers, are reported invoice by invoice in Table 4 of GSTR-1 with the buyer's GSTIN, so each one flows into that buyer's GSTR-2B for credit. B2C supplies are split into two streams: large inter-state invoices above the threshold are reported invoice-wise in Table 5, while all remaining B2C sales are reported as consolidated, rate-wise totals per state in Table 7. This is why capturing the buyer's GSTIN correctly at billing matters so much; an invoice keyed as B2C by a cashier gives the registered buyer no credit and triggers correction requests later.
Why is the portal not letting me file GSTR-1?
Under Rule 59(6) of the CGST Rules, the portal blocks GSTR-1 filing if the GSTR-3B of the preceding tax period has not been filed. GST returns are sequential, so a single skipped GSTR-3B stops the entire chain. The fix is to file the pending GSTR-3B along with its late fee and interest, after which GSTR-1 opens up again. If you are unsure which period is pending, we can check your dashboard and clear the sequence for you the same day from our office near Mathur MMDA.
What counts as exempt supply when calculating my ITC reversal ratio?
Exempt supplies for Rules 42 and 43 include nil-rated and wholly exempted supplies, and by virtue of Section 17(3) also cover outward supplies on which your recipient pays tax under reverse charge, transactions in securities valued at one percent of sale value, and sale of land or completed buildings valued at stamp duty value. Importantly, interest earned on deposits, loans or advances is excluded from the exempt turnover for this computation for everyone except banking companies and financial institutions. Many businesses in Mathur MMDA inflate their reversal by wrongly including fixed deposit interest, handing over credit the law never asked them to reverse.
My company in Mathur MMDA is dormant. Is there a cheap way to stay GST compliant?
Yes. A dormant GSTIN still requires nil GSTR-1 and nil GSTR-3B every period, and nil GSTR-9 obligations may also arise depending on turnover. Our dormant-entity plan at Rs.749 per month covers both nil returns, due-date tracking and portal monitoring so notices do not go unnoticed. If you have no intention of restarting the business, it may be cheaper to surrender the registration through a cancellation application and file the final return, which we can also handle. Speak to us on +91 - 9600 606 444 and we will recommend whichever route costs you less.
Can I revise GSTR-9 after filing if I find an error?
No, GSTR-9 cannot be revised once filed. This makes pre-filing reconciliation critical, because the annual return is the department's primary reference during scrutiny and audit. If you discover unpaid liability after filing, it can be paid voluntarily through Form DRC-03 with interest, which mitigates penalty exposure. If credit was short-claimed, the annual return itself cannot fix it, since input tax credit claims are governed by the time limits in Section 16(4). Our process in Mathur MMDA involves a line-by-line reconciliation and a client sign-off before we submit anything.
How do I document free samples and gifts given to customers?
Goods supplied genuinely free of cost to unrelated persons are not a supply, so no tax invoice is raised and no GST is charged; the movement is covered by a delivery challan marked as free samples. The cost is that input tax credit on those goods must be reversed. Two traps deserve care: gifts to related persons or between distinct GSTINs of the same PAN are taxable under Schedule I even without consideration, and promotional schemes like buy one get one are treated as a single price for two items, taxed normally with credit intact. Structure your Mathur MMDA promotions with this distinction in mind.
What details must a GST tax invoice compulsorily contain?
Rule 46 of the CGST Rules prescribes the mandatory contents: your name, address and GSTIN; a consecutive serial number not exceeding sixteen characters, unique for the financial year; the date of issue; the recipient's name, address and GSTIN if registered; the HSN or SAC code; description, quantity and unit; total and taxable value; any discount; the rate and amount of CGST, SGST or IGST shown separately; place of supply with the state name for inter-state supplies; a declaration where tax is payable on reverse charge; and signature or digital signature of the supplier. Missing fields make the invoice defective and can jeopardise your buyer's credit.
What is the GST rate for salons, gyms and yoga centres?
From 22 September 2025, beauty and physical well-being services, covering salons, barbers, beauty parlours, gyms, fitness centres and yoga institutes, attract 5 percent GST without input tax credit, reduced from the earlier 18 percent. The condition attached to the concessional rate is important: because credit is barred, the GST paid on your rent, equipment, cosmetics and consumables becomes part of your cost base. Service businesses in Mathur MMDA moving to the 5 percent rate should reprice services keeping this embedded tax in mind, and must not continue charging 18 percent, since excess tax collected has to be deposited with the government.
What happened to the old 12 percent and 28 percent GST slabs?
Both slabs were abolished with effect from 22 September 2025. Nearly all goods that were at 12 percent moved down to 5 percent, and the bulk of the 28 percent items moved to 18 percent, with only a small set of luxury and demerit goods shifted up to the special 40 percent rate. This means old rate charts, printed price lists and software masters created before September 2025 are unreliable. Before quoting or billing, confirm the current rate against the CBIC rate notifications for your exact HSN code, or call +91 - 9600 606 444 and we will verify it for your product list.
Where is the place of supply for services connected to a building or land?
Services directly relating to immovable property, including those of architects, interior decorators, engineers, surveyors, construction and works contract services, renting, and accommodation in hotels, are supplied where the property is located, under Section 12(3). The recipient's location and registration are irrelevant. So a Mathur MMDA architect designing a factory in Coimbatore charges CGST plus SGST of Tamil Nadu, but for a project in Kochi the place of supply is Kerala and IGST applies. For hotels, the state where the hotel stands is always the place of supply, which is why accommodation is invariably billed with that state's local taxes regardless of where the guest's business is registered.
Something is malfunctioning on the GST portal. How do I raise a formal grievance ticket?
Use the GST Self-Service Grievance Redressal Portal at selfservice.gstsystem.in. Select Report Issue, type a keyword describing the problem, and the system suggests the matching category along with FAQs; if those do not resolve it, proceed to raise the ticket by entering your GSTIN or ARN, contact details and a description, and attach screenshots of the error. A ticket reference number is issued instantly by email and SMS. Raising a ticket also creates a record that the failure was on the system side, which helps later if a deadline was missed because of a portal outage. Our Mathur MMDA office logs tickets for clients as part of retainer support.
When can goods move on a delivery challan instead of a tax invoice?
Rule 55 permits movement on a delivery challan where the transportation is not itself a supply: sending inputs or capital goods for job work, taking goods to an exhibition or for approval where the sale is not yet certain, supplying liquid gas where the quantity is unknown at removal, and moving goods in semi-knocked-down form in multiple consignments, where the full invoice travels with the first lot. The challan is prepared in triplicate and an e-way bill is still required where value thresholds are crossed. Goods sent on approval must be invoiced within six months, failing which tax becomes payable.
How much does GSTR-1 & GSTR-3B monthly filing cost in Mathur MMDA?
Our fee for GSTR-1 & GSTR-3B monthly filing in Mathur MMDA starts at Rs.749/month and is quoted in full before we begin — there are no hidden charges added later. The fee covers professional work end to end: document review, preparation, filing and follow-up until completion. Government fees or portal charges, where applicable, are separate and always shown to you upfront. For an exact quote based on your turnover and business type, call +91 - 9600 606 444 and a consultant will confirm it on the call.
Can I get GSTR-1 & GSTR-3B monthly filing done online without visiting the office?
Yes, the entire process can be handled online. You share scanned documents on WhatsApp or email, we prepare and file everything on the GST portal, and you receive the acknowledgement and filed copies digitally. Businesses in Mathur MMDA regularly complete monthly returns with us without a single office visit. If a physical verification or personal hearing is required by the department, we guide you through it.
Which GST office handles Mathur MMDA businesses?

Your exact division and range can be confirmed from your GSTIN on the GST portal. We regularly appear before this jurisdiction for registrations, clarifications and hearings, so we know the local practice and documentation preferences.
