Trade Profile and GST Jurisdiction for Sullivan Garden Road, Mylapore

Finding dependable GST Notice Reply in Mylapore usually means choosing between a distant online portal and an overloaded local accountant. Mylapore runs on gold jewellery, silk sarees and temple-linked retail concentrated on North Mada Street, Luz Church Road and R.K. Mutt Road around Kapaleeswarar Temple. Jewellers face HSN and old-gold exchange valuation issues, while saree and provision traders approaching the Rs.40 lakh registration threshold or the Rs.1.5 crore composition ceiling need disciplined turnover tracking and punctual GSTR-1 filing. We offer a third option: a professional Chennai GST practice that treats Mylapore, Alwarpet and Mandaveli as home ground, responds the same working day, files ahead of deadlines, and stands behind its work if a notice ever arrives on a return we prepared.

GST jurisdiction for Mylapore (PIN 600004): businesses here generally fall under the CGST Chennai North Commissionerate. We regularly represent clients from Mylapore before this jurisdiction for registrations, clarifications and notice hearings, and can confirm your exact division and range from your GSTIN. State-jurisdiction cases are handled with the Tamil Nadu Commercial Taxes Department.
GST for Professional Services Firms in Mylapore
Professional firms bill at 18 percent, but the mechanics differ by profession: services of advocates to business entities are taxed in the client's hands under reverse charge, while chartered accountants, company secretaries and architects charge tax on their own invoices. Fees received in advance are taxable on receipt, and retainers must be invoiced within the time limits of Section 31(2). Amounts recovered from clients as a pure agent, such as government fees paid on their behalf, stay outside taxable value only if every condition of Rule 33 is met and documented. A specialist sets up retainer invoicing, pure agent documentation and branch cross-charges correctly; call +91 - 9600 606 444 to discuss your firm.
To get GST Notice Reply in Mylapore, share your documents by WhatsApp or visit the office, approve the prepared draft, and the filing is completed on the GST portal from Rs.2,999.
Why Us

Why Sullivan Garden Road, Mylapore Businesses Choose ChennaiGST

Not a bulk-filing portal. A senior consultant knows your file, your jurisdiction and your deadlines.

One Dedicated Point of Contact

You deal with one accountable person who knows your business, your turnover pattern and your filing history. No repeating your story to a new voice every month, and no file falling between two desks when a deadline is approaching.

WhatsApp Updates at Every Stage

You receive a WhatsApp message when documents are received, when the draft is ready for your approval, and when the return or application is filed, along with the acknowledgement. You never have to call and ask what is happening with your file.

Familiar with Chennai Jurisdictions and Officers' Expectations

We work with Chennai GST ranges and circles every week, including the jurisdiction covering Mylapore. We know how local proper officers examine registrations, what supporting documents they routinely call for, and how to present a file so it moves without repeated queries.

Same-Day Response, Every Working Day

Send your query on call or WhatsApp and you hear back the same working day, usually within a few hours. When a due date is close or a notice has landed, waiting two days for a reply is simply not acceptable, and we know it.

Notice-Proof Filing Discipline

Most GST notices trace back to mismatches between GSTR-1, GSTR-3B and GSTR-2B. We reconcile these before filing, not after a notice arrives, so your returns are internally consistent and the most common triggers for ASMT-10 scrutiny simply never appear.

Support Through Audits and Hearings

When an ADT-01 audit intimation or a personal hearing date arrives, we compile the records, prepare the reconciliations and draft the submissions, and coordinate closely with your authorised representative. You walk into the proceeding prepared, not improvising in front of an officer.

How It Works

Our Notice Reply Process

Notice study

We read the notice line by line, identify the section invoked, the periods covered, the exact information sought and the deadline for response.

Data reconciliation

The figures alleged in the notice are reconciled against your filed returns, GSTR-2B and books, so the reply is grounded in verifiable numbers rather than assertions.

Reply drafting

We draft a professional, point-wise reply addressing every allegation, attaching reconciliations, invoices and legal support, and share the draft with you for approval.

Filing and payment

The approved reply is filed on the portal within the deadline. Where a small genuine liability exists, we advise payment through DRC-03 to limit interest and penalty.

Closure tracking

We monitor the portal for the officer's response, attend to any further queries or hearing dates, and pursue the matter until a closure or order is received.

Outcomes

What You Get

Practical outcomes our clients measure us by.

Better Cash Flow Planning

You know your expected GST outflow days before the 20th, not on the night of filing. That advance visibility lets you plan payments, collections and bank balances instead of scrambling for funds at the deadline.

Faster GST Refunds

Complete RFD-01 applications with proper statements and annexures move through the system faster and attract fewer deficiency memos, which means export and inverted-duty refunds reach your bank account sooner.

Lower Total Cost of Compliance

A fixed professional fee is almost always cheaper than the combination of late fees, interest, lost credit and staff hours that informal, last-minute compliance quietly accumulates over a year.

Waiver Benefits Never Missed

Late-fee waivers and amnesty windows notified by the GST Council are applied to your history within their deadlines, capturing reliefs that most businesses only hear about once the window has already closed.

Goods That Move Without Detention

Correct e-way bills matched to correct invoices mean your consignments clear roadside inspections cleanly, avoiding detention proceedings whose penalties can far exceed the tax on the goods being carried.

Time Back for Your Actual Business

The hours you or your accountant spent wrestling with the portal, JSON errors and reconciliations every month return to sales, operations and customers, while trained hands manage the compliance in the background.

Why a Specialist Matters

With ChennaiGST vs Doing It Yourself

AspectWith ChennaiGSTDIY / Unattended
Due-date trackingA maintained compliance calendar with internal cut-offs days before the 11th and the 20th; we chase you for data, not the other way around.Deadlines remembered from memory or phone alarms; one busy week and the return slips past the due date.
Risk of noticesGSTR-1, GSTR-3B and GSTR-2B reconciled before filing, removing the mismatches that trigger most scrutiny notices.Inconsistent figures across returns quietly build a mismatch history that surfaces later as ASMT-10 scrutiny or a demand notice.
Goods in transitE-way bills generated correctly and matched to invoices, so consignments pass roadside inspections without detention or penalty.A defective or missing e-way bill can mean detention at a checkpoint, with penalties that dwarf the tax on the consignment.
Record keepingEvery return, challan, acknowledgement and working paper archived in an organised folder, retrievable in minutes years later.Documents scattered across email, downloads and old phones; assembling records for a bank or an audit takes days.
Input tax creditPurchase register matched against GSTR-2B each period, with defaulting suppliers chased so eligible credit is actually captured.Credit claimed from books alone; mismatches with GSTR-2B mean lost credit or excess claims that invite departmental queries.
When a notice arrivesA professional drafts the reply in the department's format and files it within the statutory window, such as thirty days for ASMT-11.You face departmental language alone, and a missed reply deadline can convert a simple query into a demand with penalty.

Notification

Refund rules amended for deficiency memos and withdrawal of claims

Notification No. 15/2021-Central Tax · 2021-05-18

The Central Goods and Services Tax (Fourth Amendment) Rules, 2021 made several refund changes. Rule 90 was amended so that the period from the filing of a refund application in Form GST RFD-01 to the communication of the deficiency memo in Form GST RFD-03 is excluded when computing the two-year limitation for the fresh application filed after rectifying the deficiencies. A new facility to withdraw a refund application in Form GST RFD-01W before an order is passed was introduced, with the debited amount credited back to the ledger.

What to do about it: A Chennai exporter who receives a deficiency memo does not lose limitation for the fresh claim, and this amendment is the authority to cite if the officer says otherwise.

Portal Advisory

GST Appellate Tribunal e-filing portal opens for second appeals

GSTAT E-Filing Portal advisories, portal operational from 24 September 2025 · 2025-09-24

The GST Appellate Tribunal's e-filing portal at efiling.gstat.gov.in became operational on 24 September 2025, finally giving taxpayers a forum for second appeals against orders of appellate and revisional authorities. Filing of appeals is mandatorily electronic, and advisories prescribe a phased, staggered schedule so that the backlog does not congest the system, with backlog appeals against pre-existing orders permitted to be filed up to 30 June 2026.

Practical effect: List every unfavourable appellate order your business holds and calendar the GSTAT filing windows now, since the backlog window closes on 30 June 2026 and missed tribunal deadlines forfeit the appeal remedy.

Case Law

Madras High Court: ITC cannot be refused merely because nil GSTR-3B was filed by mistake

Sri Shanmuga Hardwares Electricals v. State Tax Officer — Madras High Court, 2024 · 2024-02-20

A trader erroneously filed nil GSTR-3B returns although its GSTR-2A and annual returns reflected eligible input tax credit, and the assessing officer rejected the ITC solely for non-claim in GSTR-3B. The Madras High Court held that where a registered person asserts eligible ITC, the officer must examine the claim on merits against the supporting documents, and cannot reject it purely because the credit was not reflected in GSTR-3B. The assessment orders were quashed and remanded.

Why this matters: A wrongly filed nil return does not extinguish genuine ITC — compile GSTR-2A, invoices and annual return evidence and press for adjudication on merits.

Already Holding the Notice? Read It in About a Minute

Upload the PDF to our free GST Notice Analyser. It identifies which of 34 notice types you have, pulls out the DIN, GSTIN and tax period, reads the reply date printed on the notice and tells you plainly whether that date has already passed — along with the documents and reconciliations you will need. No payment, no account. If the notice does not state a date we can read, it says so rather than guessing one for you.

The analyser reports what your notice says and the statutory position for that form. It is not a substitute for a consultant reading your actual records, and a reply should be reviewed before you file it.

FAQs

Frequently Asked Questions

Straight answers from practising GST consultants — based on the CGST Act, current CBIC notifications and day-to-day portal experience.

What is the process for GST notice reply?
The process runs in clear stages: Notice study; Data reconciliation; Reply drafting; Filing and payment. A senior consultant reviews your file at each stage rather than passing it to a data-entry desk, and you receive a confirmation with the filed documents once it is complete. You always know which stage your work is at — we update you on WhatsApp instead of leaving you to follow up.
Can I get GST notice reply done online without visiting the office?
Yes, the entire process can be handled online. You share scanned documents on WhatsApp or email, we prepare and file everything on the GST portal, and you receive the acknowledgement and filed copies digitally. Businesses in Mylapore regularly complete notice reply with us without a single office visit. If a physical verification or personal hearing is required by the department, we guide you through it.
I received a GSTR-3A notice for not filing my GST returns. What should I do?
GSTR-3A is a system-generated default notice issued under Section 46 when you fail to file a return such as GSTR-3B. You must file the pending return within fifteen days of the notice, along with the tax due, interest at 18 percent per annum and late fee of Rs.50 per day (Rs.20 per day for nil returns, both capped with reference to turnover). Once the return is filed within this window, no further action follows. If you have stopped business, apply for cancellation instead of leaving returns pending, because notices will keep coming every month.
The department has provisionally attached my bank account under Section 83. What does that mean?
Section 83 empowers the Commissioner, where he records an opinion that protecting revenue requires it, to provisionally attach property including bank accounts during the pendency of specified proceedings, such as assessment, inspection or demand cases. The attachment order is issued in Form DRC-22 and a copy goes to your bank, which freezes debits. Crucially, the attachment automatically ceases to have effect after one year from the order, and it can be lifted earlier through Form DRC-23 if the Commissioner is satisfied. Courts insist the power is draconian and must be exercised with genuine, recorded reasons, which is a strong ground of challenge in suitable cases.
Can a GST officer arrest a businessman, and what safeguards exist?
Yes, but only within defined limits. Under Section 69, the Commissioner must record reasons to believe that a person has committed one of the serious specified offences, chiefly fake invoicing and evasion beyond the prosecution thresholds, before authorising arrest. For cognizable, non-bailable cases, the person must be produced before a Magistrate within twenty-four hours; for bailable offences, the Deputy or Assistant Commissioner can grant bail. Departmental instructions require that arrest is not routine and must be justified by factors like flight risk or evidence tampering. If summons in a Mylapore investigation escalate toward arrest talk, engage counsel immediately; call +91 - 9600 606 444 for coordination.
My GST registration was rejected in REG-05 after a clarification notice. Can I apply again?
Yes. A rejection order in Form REG-05 does not bar you from applying afresh. You can file a new registration application after curing the defects the officer pointed out, such as an incomplete rental agreement, mismatched address proof or missing authorisation letter. Alternatively, if you believe the rejection was wrong, you can challenge the order by filing an appeal in Form APL-01 within three months. For most small businesses a corrected fresh application is faster than an appeal. ChennaiGST reviews the rejection reasons first and then recommends the quicker route for your case.
What penalties does Section 122 of the CGST Act prescribe, and for which offences?
Section 122(1) lists twenty-one offences, including supplying without an invoice, issuing an invoice without supply, collecting tax but not depositing it beyond three months, failing to deduct or collect TDS or TCS, wrongly availing input tax credit and failing to register when liable. The penalty is Rs.10,000 or an amount equivalent to the tax evaded or credit wrongly taken, whichever is higher. For short payment of tax, Section 122(2) prescribes 10 percent of the tax or Rs.10,000, whichever is higher, in non-fraud cases, and a penalty equal to the tax or Rs.10,000, whichever is higher, where fraud is involved. An equal penalty applies under the SGST Act.
An ASMT-13 best judgment order was passed against me. Can it still be nullified by filing the return?
Yes, Section 62 contains a self-correcting mechanism. If you furnish the valid return within sixty days of service of the ASMT-13 assessment order, the order is deemed withdrawn automatically, though late fee and interest remain payable. The Finance Act 2023 added a further cushion effective 1 October 2023: even after the sixty days, you can file the return within an additional sixty days by paying an extra late fee of Rs.100 per day under the CGST Act, with a matching state levy, for each day beyond the first window, and the order still stands withdrawn. Beyond the full one hundred and twenty days, the estimated demand becomes enforceable, leaving appeal as the remedy.
Can I use my input tax credit balance to pay a DRC-03 liability?
Partly. The tax component of a DRC-03 payment can be settled from the electronic credit ledger, subject to the usual cross-utilisation rules between IGST, CGST and SGST. However, interest, penalty and late fee can never be paid from credit; those components must come from the electronic cash ledger, so you may need to deposit a challan first. The portal shows both ledger balances on the payment screen and lets you split the utilisation. Planning this split correctly avoids depositing cash unnecessarily when credit is lying idle, which is a routine saving we make for clients every month.
How long can a departmental GST audit under Section 65 go on?
The law requires the audit to be completed within three months from its commencement, which is the date the officers receive all the records they asked for. Where the Commissioner is satisfied that the audit cannot be completed in that time, he may record reasons and extend it by a further period not exceeding six months. In practice, audits drag when taxpayers supply records piecemeal, so submitting a complete, indexed set of documents at the start actually shortens the exercise. Track every submission with an acknowledgment, because the commencement date and the timeline arguments may matter later if disputes arise.
What happens if I do not reply to an ASMT-10 scrutiny notice?
If no satisfactory explanation is filed within thirty days, or you fail to correct the discrepancies, the officer can escalate the matter to a departmental audit under Section 65, a special audit under Section 66, an inspection under Section 67, or straightaway initiate a demand under Section 73 or Section 74. In practice, unanswered ASMT-10 notices convert into DRC-01A intimations and then show cause notices, where penalties and hearings enter the picture. Replying at the scrutiny stage is the cheapest point to close an issue, because you are only explaining, not yet defending a demand. Do not let the window lapse.
Can I transfer cash ledger balance from one GSTIN to another GSTIN of the same PAN?
Yes, within limits. Under Section 49(10), unutilised IGST and CGST balances in the electronic cash ledger can be transferred through PMT-09 to the cash ledger of a distinct person, that is, another GSTIN registered on the same PAN in the same or another state. SGST balances cannot be moved across states in this manner. The transfer is not permitted if the transferring GSTIN has any unpaid liability standing in its electronic liability register. Multi-state businesses headquartered in Mylapore use this to shift idle deposits to the branch that actually needs the cash, avoiding fresh working capital outflow.
The GST rate on my product changed. Which rate applies to pending orders and invoices?
Section 14 of the CGST Act decides this by looking at three events: the date of supply, the date of invoice and the date of payment. Broadly, if any two of the three events fall after the rate change, the new rate applies; if two fall before, the old rate applies. So goods delivered in Mylapore before 22 September 2025 but invoiced and paid for afterwards attract the new rate, while goods delivered and invoiced earlier keep the old rate even if payment came later. Document dates carefully during any transition window, because officers test these invoices in scrutiny.
Is the late fee charged on delayed returns the same thing as a penalty?
No, they are legally distinct. Late fee under Section 47 is an automatic, fixed daily charge for filing a return after its due date, computed by the portal and payable in cash before the return is accepted; no officer discretion or notice is involved. Penalty, under provisions such as Sections 122 to 125, is imposed through adjudication for specified offences, requires a show cause notice and hearing, and can be contested or reduced. Interest under Section 50 is a third, separate levy compensating for delayed payment. A delayed return with tax due can therefore attract all three simultaneously, each on its own footing.
What is the GST treatment for an event management company handling corporate events?
Event management services attract 18 percent with full input tax credit. Place of supply rules deserve attention: for organising an event for a registered client, the place of supply is the client's location, so a Chennai company organising a Goa offsite for a Bengaluru-registered client charges IGST to Karnataka. For unregistered clients, the place of supply is where the event is actually held. Admission tickets are taxed where the event takes place. Getting the state wrong means the client's credit is jeopardised and the tax may need repayment under the correct head, so event companies serving multi-state clients should map each contract before invoicing.
What happened to the old 12 percent and 28 percent GST slabs?
Both slabs were abolished with effect from 22 September 2025. Nearly all goods that were at 12 percent moved down to 5 percent, and the bulk of the 28 percent items moved to 18 percent, with only a small set of luxury and demerit goods shifted up to the special 40 percent rate. This means old rate charts, printed price lists and software masters created before September 2025 are unreliable. Before quoting or billing, confirm the current rate against the CBIC rate notifications for your exact HSN code, or call +91 - 9600 606 444 and we will verify it for your product list.
Should I claim a refund of my accumulated ITC or just carry it forward?
Carry-forward suits businesses whose future output tax will absorb the credit within a few months, since it avoids refund paperwork. A refund makes sense when the credit keeps growing and will never be absorbed, which is typical for exporters under LUT and businesses with inverted duty structure, because idle credit is interest-free money locked with the government. Remember that refunds are only available in categories permitted by Section 54; ordinary accumulated credit from slow sales cannot be refunded. A quick review of your credit ledger trend over six months usually makes the right answer obvious.
How is the place of supply decided when I sell goods?
Section 10 of the IGST Act gives the tests. Where the sale involves movement of goods, the place of supply is the location where the movement terminates for delivery to the recipient, whoever arranges the transport. Where there is no movement, it is the location of the goods at the time of delivery, which covers over-the-counter sales and sales of installed machinery in place. Where goods are assembled or installed at site, the place of supply is the site of installation. Getting this right decides whether you charge CGST plus SGST or IGST, and a Mylapore seller delivering to a Bengaluru buyer charges IGST because delivery terminates in Karnataka.
