Trade Profile and GST Jurisdiction for Foreshore Estate

Foreshore Estate, known locally as Pattinapakkam, is the coastal settlement where fishing households along Loop Road and the Trust streets meet the Adyar estuary near the Broken Bridge, with fish vending clustered around the Foreshore Estate bus terminus. Fresh fish is exempt from GST, but boat repair, ice supply, cold transport and online seafood sales are taxable, creating chronic classification and registration confusion. GST compliance in a market like Foreshore Estate rewards consistency — returns that match, credits that reconcile, and records that stand up to scrutiny. Our team provides QRMP Quarterly Filing to businesses throughout Foreshore Estate and nearby Santhome and Raja Annamalaipuram on fixed, transparent fees. From the first document checklist to the final acknowledgement on WhatsApp, the process is structured so nothing depends on memory, luck or a due-date-evening scramble.

GST jurisdiction for Foreshore Estate (PIN 600028): businesses here generally fall under the CGST Chennai North Commissionerate. We regularly represent clients from Foreshore Estate before this jurisdiction for registrations, clarifications and notice hearings, and can confirm your exact division and range from your GSTIN. State-jurisdiction cases are handled with the Tamil Nadu Commercial Taxes Department.
GST Support for Wholesale Traders in Foreshore Estate
Wholesale trade runs on thin margins and heavy invoice volumes, so small GST errors multiply quickly. Once taxable supplies cross Rs.50 lakh in a month, Rule 86B requires at least one percent of output tax to be paid in cash regardless of credit balance, and quantity or turnover discounts must be passed through credit notes that satisfy Section 15(3)(b) to legally reduce taxable value. A specialist keeps your invoice-wise B2B reporting clean so retailer customers receive credit without friction, watches the Rs.5 crore e-invoicing threshold as volumes grow, and documents discount schemes in agreements the department will accept. Wholesalers in Foreshore Estate can call +91 - 9600 606 444 for a margin-safe compliance review.
Yes, professional QRMP Quarterly Filing is available in Foreshore Estate starting at Rs.1,499. The process is handled end to end — documents over WhatsApp, senior-reviewed preparation, portal filing and same-day acknowledgement sharing.
Why Us

Why Foreshore Estate Businesses Choose ChennaiGST

Not a bulk-filing portal. A senior consultant knows your file, your jurisdiction and your deadlines.

✓

Every Return Reviewed by a Senior Consultant

No filing leaves our desk on a junior's judgement alone. A senior GST practitioner reviews your figures, ITC claims and tax computation before submission, so errors are caught at our table and not by the department months later through a notice.

✓

ITC Maximisation Within the Law

We match your purchase register against GSTR-2B every period, follow up on invoices your suppliers have not uploaded, and ensure every rupee of eligible input tax credit is claimed. Clients routinely recover credit they were silently losing under self-filing.

✓

Composition Scheme Compliance Without Slips

Composition dealers have their own rulebook — CMP-08 every quarter, GSTR-4 annually by 30 June, bills of supply instead of tax invoices, and a turnover ceiling that must be watched. We handle each of these correctly so the scheme's simplicity never turns into a violation.

✓

Zero Tolerance for Late Fees and Interest

GSTR-3B late fees run at Rs.50 per day and interest at 18 percent per annum on unpaid tax. Our internal cut-offs sit days ahead of statutory due dates precisely so that our clients never hand the department a rupee they did not owe.

✓

Complete Documentation, Properly Archived

Every acknowledgement, challan, computation sheet and filed return is saved and shared with you in an organised folder. When a bank, buyer or GST officer asks for a document from two years ago, it reaches you the same day without any scrambling.

✓

E-Commerce Seller Reconciliation, Including TCS

Sellers on Amazon, Flipkart and other marketplaces face a three-way match between marketplace reports, GSTR-1 and the TCS the operator deposits against your GSTIN. We reconcile all three every period and accept the TCS credit, so sellers in Foreshore Estate never leave marketplace deductions unclaimed.

How It Works

Our QRMP Filing Process

Scheme setup and assessment

We confirm your eligibility under the Rs.5 crore limit, compare QRMP against monthly filing for your business, and select or continue the scheme on the portal.

Monthly IFF uploads

In the first two months of the quarter we upload your B2B invoices through the Invoice Furnishing Facility by the 13th, so customers see credit in their GSTR-2B promptly.

Monthly tax payment

We compute tax for each of the first two months under the fixed sum or self-assessment method and generate the PMT-06 challan for payment by the 25th.

Quarterly return preparation

After the quarter ends we consolidate all three months of sales and purchases, reconcile input tax credit with GSTR-2B, and prepare GSTR-1 and GSTR-3B.

Filing and reporting

With your confirmation we file quarterly GSTR-1 by the 13th and GSTR-3B by the 22nd, then share acknowledgements and a quarterly tax summary for your records.

Outcomes

What You Get

Practical outcomes our clients measure us by.

★

Compliance That Continues When You Travel

Illness, travel or a family function no longer threatens a deadline. With a standing external process holding your calendar and data trail, filings proceed on schedule whether or not you are at your desk.

★

The Lowest Tax Position the Law Allows

Your scheme choice — regular, composition or QRMP — is re-examined as turnover and margins change, so you are always paying under the structure that legitimately costs your business the least.

★

A Clean GSTIN That Stays Active

Continuous filing protects you from the suspension and cancellation proceedings that hit chronic non-filers, so your registration, e-way bill access and ability to issue tax invoices are never suddenly cut off.

Why a Specialist Matters

With ChennaiGST vs Doing It Yourself

AspectWith ChennaiGSTDIY / Unattended
Input tax creditPurchase register matched against GSTR-2B each period, with defaulting suppliers chased so eligible credit is actually captured.Credit claimed from books alone; mismatches with GSTR-2B mean lost credit or excess claims that invite departmental queries.
Record keepingEvery return, challan, acknowledgement and working paper archived in an organised folder, retrievable in minutes years later.Documents scattered across email, downloads and old phones; assembling records for a bank or an audit takes days.
Portal credentials and dataLogins handled by a small engaged team under strict confidentiality, with credentials stored securely and never passed onward.Passwords circulating on chats with freelancers and part-timers, and no accountability for who has accessed your business data.
Risk of noticesGSTR-1, GSTR-3B and GSTR-2B reconciled before filing, removing the mismatches that trigger most scrutiny notices.Inconsistent figures across returns quietly build a mismatch history that surfaces later as ASMT-10 scrutiny or a demand notice.
Registration and amendmentsQuery-resistant applications prepared correctly the first time, with supporting documents matched to what proper officers actually verify.Repeated clarification memos and resubmissions, with weeks lost because a rent agreement or premises photograph did not meet expectations.
Due-date trackingA maintained compliance calendar with internal cut-offs days before the 11th and the 20th; we chase you for data, not the other way around.Deadlines remembered from memory or phone alarms; one busy week and the return slips past the due date.

AAR Ruling

Carbonated fruit drinks classified as carbonated beverages, not fruit juice drinks

Rich Dairy Products (India) Pvt Ltd - AAR Tamil Nadu (2019), upheld by AAAR Tamil Nadu, Order No. TN/AAAR/01/2020 · 2019

The Namakkal manufacturer made carbonated beverages containing fruit juice and sought classification under the fruit pulp or fruit juice based drinks entry taxed at 12 percent. The Authority held that once carbon dioxide is added the product is classifiable under heading 2202 10 as waters containing added carbon dioxide and flavouring, and not as fruit juice under heading 2009, so the higher rate applicable to that entry along with compensation cess applies. The Appellate Authority upheld that view.

What it means for you: Chennai beverage makers must check whether the drink is carbonated before applying the 12 percent fruit drink rate.

Circular

Reducing GST demands after an insolvency resolution plan is approved

Circular No. 187/19/2022-GST · 2022-12-27

Where a resolution plan is approved by the adjudicating authority under the Insolvency and Bankruptcy Code and the government's claim is scaled down, the tax department cannot continue to pursue the original demand. The Board directed officers to give effect to the approved plan by issuing an intimation in FORM GST DRC-25 under Rule 161, reducing the demand in the recovery records to the amount admitted in the plan, and to close recovery proceedings for the balance.

Practical effect: If a Chennai company has come out of insolvency, insist on a DRC-25 intimation so that the old demand stops appearing in the recovery register and blocking registration or refunds.

Portal Advisory

QRMP taxpayers get GSTR-2B only for the last month of the quarter

GSTN Advisory, January 2025 — non-generation of GSTR-2B for the first two months of a quarter under the QRMP scheme · 2025-01

GSTN clarified that for taxpayers under the Quarterly Return Monthly Payment scheme, GSTR-2B is generated only for the last month of each quarter, and inward supplies of all three months appear in that single quarterly statement. GSTN also explained that GSTR-2B is not generated for a period where the previous period's GSTR-3B remains unfiled, and that the statement becomes available once the pending return is filed.

What to do about it: QRMP businesses should plan input tax credit reconciliation quarterly and clear any pending GSTR-3B, since an unfiled return stops the next GSTR-2B from being generated.

FAQs

Frequently Asked Questions

Straight answers from practising GST consultants — based on the CGST Act, current CBIC notifications and day-to-day portal experience.

Is there a GST consultant near Foreshore Estate for qrmp scheme filing?
Yes. We serve Foreshore Estate and the surrounding areas from our office at Porur, Chennai - 600 116, Tamil Nadu, and most QRMP filing work is completed online — you send documents on WhatsApp and we handle the portal work. If you prefer in-person help, we offer doorstep document pickup across Foreshore Estate and you are welcome to visit our office. Reach us on +91 - 9600 606 444 between 9 AM and 8 PM, Monday to Saturday.
How long does QRMP quarterly filing take in Foreshore Estate?
IFF by the 13th, GSTR-3B by the 22nd after each quarter. That assumes your documents are complete and there is no departmental query. We start the same day we receive your papers and tell you the realistic completion date upfront rather than an optimistic one. Where the GST portal or the officer causes delay — clarifications, physical verification or system issues — we track it daily and keep you informed on WhatsApp.
Is there a late fee if I delay the monthly PMT-06 payment under QRMP?
No late fee applies to a delayed PMT-06 deposit, because late fee is linked only to returns. However, interest at 18 percent per annum is payable on the shortfall for the delay period. Note that if you used the fixed sum method and paid the pre-filled 35 percent amount on time, no interest applies for the first two months even if actual liability was higher, provided the balance is paid in the quarterly GSTR-3B by its due date. Late fee does apply if the quarterly GSTR-1 or GSTR-3B itself is filed late.
What is IFF in the QRMP scheme?
The Invoice Furnishing Facility (IFF) is an optional facility for QRMP taxpayers to upload B2B invoices for the first two months of a quarter, by the 13th of the following month, up to Rs.50 lakh of invoice value per month. Invoices uploaded through IFF appear in your buyers' GSTR-2B immediately, so they can claim input tax credit without waiting for your quarterly GSTR-1. If your customers are registered businesses that press for timely credit, using IFF keeps them happy. We file IFF for QRMP clients in Foreshore Estate as part of the standard package.
What is the QRMP scheme and can my business opt for it?
QRMP stands for Quarterly Return filing and Monthly Payment. Taxpayers with aggregate turnover up to Rs.5 crore in the preceding financial year can opt in. Under the scheme you file GSTR-1 and GSTR-3B once a quarter instead of every month, but you still pay tax monthly through challan PMT-06 for the first two months of the quarter. It reduces filing effort from 24 returns a year to 8, which suits most small traders and service providers in Foreshore Estate. We can check your eligibility and opt you in on the portal.
How and when can I opt in or out of the QRMP scheme?
The option is exercised on the GST portal under Services, Returns, Opt-in for Quarterly Return. The window for any quarter runs from the first day of the second month of the preceding quarter to the last day of the first month of the quarter you are opting for. For example, to be under QRMP for July to September, opt in between 1 May and 31 July. Once chosen, the option continues for future quarters until you change it or your turnover crosses Rs.5 crore. We handle the opt-in for clients at no extra charge.
I am under QRMP in Chennai. When is my quarterly GSTR-3B due?
For taxpayers registered in Tamil Nadu, which falls in the category of states with the earlier date, the quarterly GSTR-3B under QRMP is due on the 22nd of the month following the quarter. So the return for April to June is due by 22 July, and so on for each quarter. The quarterly GSTR-1 is due by the 13th of the same month. Mark both dates, because late fee and 18 percent interest apply on delays just as they do for monthly filers. Call +91 - 9600 606 444 if you want us to manage the calendar.
Should I choose QRMP or continue monthly filing?
It depends on your customer profile. QRMP means fewer returns and suits businesses selling mainly to consumers or unregistered buyers. However, if most customers are registered businesses, monthly GSTR-1 (or disciplined use of IFF) gets them input tax credit faster, which many corporate buyers insist on. Cash flow also matters: under QRMP you still pay monthly via PMT-06, so there is no tax deferral, only compliance simplification. We review turnover, buyer mix and working capital before recommending either route to businesses in Foreshore Estate. A short call on +91 - 9600 606 444 is enough to decide.
The portal auto-filled an interest amount in my GSTR-3B. Can I edit or dispute it?
The portal computes interest on delayed filings under Rule 88B and auto-populates it in Table 5.1 of the next period's GSTR-3B, with a break-up shown period-wise. The system value is based on your cash ledger debits and the days of delay, and while the field permits upward revision, reducing the system-computed figure will flag the return. If you believe the computation is wrong, for instance because a liability related to an earlier period was declared with correct interest already paid through DRC-03, pay what is correct and keep the working; the department can be satisfied later with the reconciliation. We verify these auto-computations for clients before every filing.
Can I voluntarily come out of the composition scheme and claim input credit again?
Yes. File Form CMP-04 to withdraw from the scheme; a voluntary withdrawal can be filed at any time and takes effect from the date you indicate. From that date you become a regular taxpayer: issue tax invoices, charge GST, and file GSTR-1 and GSTR-3B or opt for QRMP. To recover credit, file Form ITC-01 within thirty days of withdrawal, declaring input tax credit on inputs in stock, semi-finished and finished goods held on the day before the switch. Businesses in Foreshore Estate usually opt out when their customer base shifts to registered dealers who want input credit on purchases from them.
My CMP-08 shows a negative liability adjustment I never claimed. What is the negative liability statement?
Composition taxpayers have a separate negative liability statement on the portal. It typically gets populated when the annual GSTR-4 is filed with Table 6 left blank; the system then treats the tax already paid through the year's CMP-08 statements as excess, creating a negative balance that silently adjusts future CMP-08 liabilities. If the negative entry is genuine excess payment, it can remain as adjustment; if it arose from a blank Table 6, the department expects you to deposit the wrongly adjusted amount through DRC-03 and report Table 6 correctly. Our Foreshore Estate team reconciles and regularises these statements regularly; call +91 - 9600 606 444.
How do I file Form PMT-09 to move money between heads in my cash ledger?
Log in and open Services, then Ledgers, then Electronic Cash Ledger, and select File GST PMT-09 for transfer of amount. The screen shows your balance under each major and minor head. Choose the transfer-from head and amount, choose the transfer-to head, add the details to the table, preview and file with DSC or EVC. The transfer reflects in the ledger immediately and an ARN is generated for your records. There is no limit on how often PMT-09 can be filed, and no government fee applies, so it is always the first fix for a wrong-head deposit.
Does compensation cess still apply on any goods?
For most goods, no. With the rate restructuring of 22 September 2025, compensation cess was discontinued on items such as cars, and the demerit burden was merged into the single 40 percent rate. The cess continues only on pan masala and specified tobacco products during the transition period while past compensation cess loan obligations are being discharged. A practical point for traders: balances of unutilised compensation cess credit cannot be cross-utilised against CGST, SGST or IGST liability, so businesses holding old cess credit should evaluate their position rather than assuming it will set off future tax.
I deposited money under the wrong head in my GST cash ledger. Why can the amount not be used?
The cash ledger is divided into major heads, IGST, CGST, SGST and cess, and minor heads, tax, interest, penalty, fee and others. An amount deposited under one combination, say CGST-penalty, cannot be directly used to pay under another, say IGST-tax, which is why your balance appears unusable despite money lying in the ledger. The remedy is Form PMT-09, which transfers the amount to the correct head instantly without any officer approval. Many Foreshore Estate taxpayers wrongly deposit a fresh challan in this situation; a two-minute PMT-09 filing saves that duplication. Call +91 - 9600 606 444 if your ledger looks stuck.
What are the rules for numbering GST invoices?
The invoice serial number must be consecutive, must not exceed sixteen characters, and may contain alphabets, numerals and the special characters hyphen and slash, in one or multiple series. Each number must be unique for a financial year, so most businesses restart their series every April with a year prefix such as 2026-27/001. Gaps in a series invite questions during audit because officers may suspect unreported invoices, and cancelled invoice numbers should be retained in records with the cancelled copy. The document series you use must also be declared in Table 13 of GSTR-1 each period.
What are the GST rates on gold, silver and diamond jewellery?
The special rates on precious metals were retained in the GST 2.0 restructuring. Gold, silver and articles of jewellery attract 3 percent GST, rough and unworked diamonds attract 0.25 percent, and jewellery making charges billed separately attract 5 percent. When a jeweller bills a customer, the metal value and making charges can appear as separate line items with their respective rates on the same tax invoice. Old gold purchased from an unregistered customer in exchange transactions does not attract GST in the customer's hands, but valuation of the net supply must be documented carefully.
Which daily-use grocery items became cheaper under GST from September 2025?
The 56th GST Council's rationalisation, effective 22 September 2025, moved a large basket of daily essentials from 12% or 18% down to 5%, including butter, ghee, cheese, namkeens, sauces, pasta, chocolates, biscuits, cornflakes, hair oil, shampoo, soaps and toothpaste. UHT milk, pre-packaged paneer and all Indian breads such as roti, chapati and paratha became nil rated. Aerated and caffeinated beverages, by contrast, went to the 40% demerit rate. Grocery and supermarket billing masters needed a near-complete refresh from that date, and old stock is simply sold at the new rate applicable on the date of supply.
What is the GST rate for salons, gyms and yoga centres?
From 22 September 2025, beauty and physical well-being services, covering salons, barbers, beauty parlours, gyms, fitness centres and yoga institutes, attract 5 percent GST without input tax credit, reduced from the earlier 18 percent. The condition attached to the concessional rate is important: because credit is barred, the GST paid on your rent, equipment, cosmetics and consumables becomes part of your cost base. Service businesses in Foreshore Estate moving to the 5 percent rate should reprice services keeping this embedded tax in mind, and must not continue charging 18 percent, since excess tax collected has to be deposited with the government.
Are there any hidden charges for QRMP quarterly filing?
No. The fee quoted before we start is the fee you pay. Government fees, portal charges or statutory late fees, where they apply, are separate and disclosed to you in advance with the exact amount. We issue a proper GST invoice for our professional fee. If the scope of work changes — for example, an unexpected notice or additional periods — we tell you the revised fee before doing anything further.
What is the process for QRMP quarterly filing?
The process runs in clear stages: Scheme setup and assessment; Monthly IFF uploads; Monthly tax payment; Quarterly return preparation. A senior consultant reviews your file at each stage rather than passing it to a data-entry desk, and you receive a confirmation with the filed documents once it is complete. You always know which stage your work is at — we update you on WhatsApp instead of leaving you to follow up.
What documents are required for QRMP quarterly filing in Foreshore Estate?
For QRMP quarterly filing you will generally need: Monthly sales invoices or sales register, Purchase invoices for input tax credit, Credit notes and debit notes for the quarter, GST portal login credentials, Previous quarter GSTR-3B copy for fixed sum method computation. The exact list depends on your constitution — proprietorship, partnership, LLP or company — and on the specifics of your case. Send what you have on WhatsApp to +91 - 9600 606 444 and we will confirm within the same working day exactly what else is needed, so nothing is rejected later for a missing paper.
