Trade Profile and GST Jurisdiction for Vembuliamman Koil Street, Valasaravakkam

Finding dependable GSTR-1 & GSTR-3B Monthly Filing in Valasaravakkam usually means choosing between a distant online portal and an overloaded local accountant. Valasaravakkam has shifted from farmland to apartment blocks, and promoters, interior contractors and building material suppliers now work alongside supermarkets and clinics on Arcot Road and in Alwarthirunagar. Works contract taxation drives most disputes here: the 18 per cent rate on contract services, blocked input credit on construction under Section 17(5) and GSTR-7 TDS where contracts involve government bodies. We offer a third option: a professional Chennai GST practice that treats Valasaravakkam, Virugambakkam and Alwarthirunagar as home ground, responds the same working day, files ahead of deadlines, and stands behind its work if a notice ever arrives on a return we prepared.

GST jurisdiction for Valasaravakkam (PIN 600087): businesses here generally fall under the CGST Chennai South Commissionerate. We regularly represent clients from Valasaravakkam before this jurisdiction for registrations, clarifications and notice hearings, and can confirm your exact division and range from your GSTIN. State-jurisdiction cases are handled with the Tamil Nadu Commercial Taxes Department.
GST for Educational Institutions in Valasaravakkam
Education enjoys exemption only within defined walls: institutions providing recognised board or university qualifications are exempt under Entry 66 of Notification 12/2017, along with their transport, catering and examination services to students. Coaching centres, skill academies and training institutes fall outside the entry and pay 18 percent. An organisation running both a recognised school and a commercial coaching wing must segregate the streams, reverse proportionate input credit under Rule 42 on the exempt side, and still count exempt fees within aggregate turnover for registration. A specialist structures the two activities, fee invoicing and credit reversals so the exemption claimed for one stream is never endangered by the other.
For GSTR-1 & GSTR-3B Monthly Filing in Valasaravakkam the working timeline is Filed before the 11th and 20th of every month, counted from the point your documents are complete. The realistic completion date is confirmed to you in writing before work starts, and the acknowledgement is shared on WhatsApp immediately after filing.
Why Us

Why Vembuliamman Koil Street, Valasaravakkam Businesses Choose ChennaiGST

Not a bulk-filing portal. A senior consultant knows your file, your jurisdiction and your deadlines.

✓

Transparent, Fixed Fees Quoted Upfront

You are told the full fee before we begin, in writing. No surprise additions for uploads, revisions or acknowledgements. Government fees and taxes, where applicable, are shown separately, so businesses in Valasaravakkam always know exactly what the engagement costs them.

✓

Cancelled GSTIN? We Handle Revocation Too

A registration cancelled for non-filing is not the end of the road. We bring the pending returns up to date, clear the dues and file the revocation application in REG-21 within the permitted window, restoring suspended and cancelled GSTINs to active status.

✓

QRMP Managed Properly, Not Just Opted Into

Quarterly filing still demands monthly attention — IFF uploads so your buyers see their credit on time, and tax payment through PMT-06 by the 25th for the first two months of each quarter. We run that monthly rhythm so QRMP saves you effort without creating gaps.

✓

Experience Across Trades and Sectors

Traders, manufacturers, contractors, e-commerce sellers, professionals and service exporters — we have handled GST for all of them. Whatever mix of goods and services your Valasaravakkam business supplies, the rate, classification and place-of-supply questions have almost certainly crossed our desk before.

✓

E-Commerce Seller Reconciliation, Including TCS

Sellers on Amazon, Flipkart and other marketplaces face a three-way match between marketplace reports, GSTR-1 and the TCS the operator deposits against your GSTIN. We reconcile all three every period and accept the TCS credit, so sellers in Valasaravakkam never leave marketplace deductions unclaimed.

✓

Handholding for First-Time Registrants

A new GSTIN comes with obligations nobody explains at approval — the invoice series rules, displaying the registration certificate and GSTIN at your premises, and the first return cycle. We walk new registrants in Valasaravakkam through each of these so month one starts correctly.

How It Works

Our Monthly Returns Process

Monthly data collection

At month end we remind you and collect sales invoices, purchase bills and credit notes in whatever format you maintain, including Excel, Tally exports or scanned copies.

GSTR-1 preparation and filing

We prepare invoice-wise outward supply details, validate GSTINs of your B2B customers, summarise B2C supplies and file GSTR-1 on the portal before the 11th.

ITC reconciliation with GSTR-2B

We download your auto-drafted GSTR-2B, match it against purchase records, and claim only eligible input tax credit so that mismatches do not trigger scrutiny notices later.

Tax computation and confirmation

We compute net tax payable after ITC set-off, share the working with you for approval, and generate the payment challan for any cash liability.

GSTR-3B filing and reporting

After your confirmation and tax payment, we file GSTR-3B before the 20th and send you both filed acknowledgements along with a one-page summary of the month.

Outcomes

What You Get

Practical outcomes our clients measure us by.

★

Bank and Tender Readiness

Loan applications and government tenders routinely demand GST returns and registration documents. With everything filed and archived properly, you can produce a complete compliance file within hours instead of days.

★

A Clean GSTIN That Stays Active

Continuous filing protects you from the suspension and cancellation proceedings that hit chronic non-filers, so your registration, e-way bill access and ability to issue tax invoices are never suddenly cut off.

★

Slips Settled Before They Become Notices

Where a genuine error is found in a past period, voluntary payment through DRC-03 before any notice issues closes the matter at minimal cost, instead of letting it ripen into a demand with penalty.

★

No Money Idling in the Cash Ledger

Excess balances parked in the electronic cash ledger are identified during regular ledger reviews and either utilised against upcoming liability or claimed back as a refund, instead of sitting interest-free with the government.

★

Advances Treated Correctly

Advances received for services attract GST on receipt while advances for goods generally do not; applying this distinction correctly means you neither prepay tax unnecessarily nor omit a liability that surfaces later with interest.

★

Books and Returns That Agree at Year End

Because turnover in your GST returns is kept aligned with your accounts through the year, income tax filing and statutory audit proceed without the GST-versus-books mismatch queries that now surface routinely through data matching.

Why a Specialist Matters

With ChennaiGST vs Doing It Yourself

AspectWith ChennaiGSTDIY / Unattended
Risk of noticesGSTR-1, GSTR-3B and GSTR-2B reconciled before filing, removing the mismatches that trigger most scrutiny notices.Inconsistent figures across returns quietly build a mismatch history that surfaces later as ASMT-10 scrutiny or a demand notice.
Keeping up with changesRate changes, portal updates and new thresholds such as the Rs.5 crore e-invoice limit are tracked by us and applied to your case proactively.Changes are discovered after the fact — often through a rejected filing, a blocked e-way bill or a departmental letter.
Record keepingEvery return, challan, acknowledgement and working paper archived in an organised folder, retrievable in minutes years later.Documents scattered across email, downloads and old phones; assembling records for a bank or an audit takes days.
Refund claimsRFD-01 filed with complete statements and annexures, tracked from ARN to bank credit, with any deficiency memo answered promptly.Incomplete claims bounce back as deficiency memos while the refund sits unclaimed for months and working capital stays blocked.
Portal credentials and dataLogins handled by a small engaged team under strict confidentiality, with credentials stored securely and never passed onward.Passwords circulating on chats with freelancers and part-timers, and no accountability for who has accessed your business data.
Late fees and interestFilings go in ahead of statutory dates, so the Rs.50-per-day late fee and 18 percent interest never arise.Late fees accumulate silently every delayed day, and interest on unpaid tax runs at 18 percent per annum.

AAR Ruling

Renting property to a government department is still taxable

Tamil Nadu Labour Welfare Board - AAR Tamil Nadu, advance ruling reported August 2021 · 2021

The Board, based at the DMS Campus in Teynampet, Chennai, owned immovable property and let portions of it to government departments and business entities. It asked whether it needed registration and whether the rent was exempt because the tenant was the government. The Authority held that renting of commercial property by the Board to a government or a business entity is not an exempt supply, so GST was payable on the rent collected.

Why this matters: Chennai landlords letting premises to government offices must charge GST unless a specific exemption entry clearly covers the letting.

Portal Advisory

Separate row in GSTR-3B for supplies on which the e-commerce operator pays the tax

GSTN Advisory, 2022 — Table 3.1.1 of Form GSTR-3B introduced by Notification No. 14/2022-Central Tax, dated 5 July 2022 · 2022

Table 3.1.1 was added to GSTR-3B so that supplies notified under Section 9(5), such as passenger transport, restaurant service supplied through an app, hotel accommodation and housekeeping, are reported separately. The e-commerce operator reports the value and pays the tax in row (i), while the underlying supplier reports the same value in row (ii) and pays nothing on it, so the turnover is not counted twice across the two returns.

How we apply it: Chennai restaurants and cab operators supplying through an app must still report those sales in Table 3.1.1(ii) even though the platform pays the tax.

Case Law

Supreme Court confirms no service tax on corporate guarantees given without consideration

Commissioner of CGST and Central Excise v. Edelweiss Financial Services Ltd — Supreme Court, order dated 17-03-2023 dismissing the department's appeal against the CESTAT order · 2023-03-17

The Supreme Court dismissed the department's appeal and confirmed that where a holding company issues a corporate guarantee for its group companies without charging any consideration, no service tax is leviable. A taxable service requires consideration, and where none flows, the charge fails. Under GST the position has since been altered by a specific valuation rule for corporate guarantees between related persons, so the current position must be checked separately.

What to do about it: Chennai group companies giving guarantees to each other should review the current GST valuation rule, since the earlier no-consideration argument no longer holds under GST.

FAQs

Frequently Asked Questions

Straight answers from practising GST consultants — based on the CGST Act, current CBIC notifications and day-to-day portal experience.

How long does GSTR-1 & GSTR-3B monthly filing take in Valasaravakkam?
Filed before the 11th and 20th of every month. That assumes your documents are complete and there is no departmental query. We start the same day we receive your papers and tell you the realistic completion date upfront rather than an optimistic one. Where the GST portal or the officer causes delay — clarifications, physical verification or system issues — we track it daily and keep you informed on WhatsApp.
How much does GSTR-1 & GSTR-3B monthly filing cost in Valasaravakkam?
Our fee for GSTR-1 & GSTR-3B monthly filing in Valasaravakkam starts at Rs.749/month and is quoted in full before we begin — there are no hidden charges added later. The fee covers professional work end to end: document review, preparation, filing and follow-up until completion. Government fees or portal charges, where applicable, are separate and always shown to you upfront. For an exact quote based on your turnover and business type, call +91 - 9600 606 444 and a consultant will confirm it on the call.
How are B2B and B2C invoices reported differently in GST returns?
B2B invoices, meaning supplies to registered buyers, are reported invoice by invoice in Table 4 of GSTR-1 with the buyer's GSTIN, so each one flows into that buyer's GSTR-2B for credit. B2C supplies are split into two streams: large inter-state invoices above the threshold are reported invoice-wise in Table 5, while all remaining B2C sales are reported as consolidated, rate-wise totals per state in Table 7. This is why capturing the buyer's GSTIN correctly at billing matters so much; an invoice keyed as B2C by a cashier gives the registered buyer no credit and triggers correction requests later.
What is the difference between GSTR-1 and GSTR-3B?
GSTR-1 is a detailed invoice-wise statement of your sales, filed by the 11th of the next month. It does not involve any tax payment but it feeds your customers' GSTR-2B for input tax credit. GSTR-3B is a self-declared summary return, due on the 20th, where you report total sales, claim input tax credit and pay the net tax in cash or through credit. Both must match; mismatches between GSTR-1 and GSTR-3B are a common trigger for notices from the department, which is why we reconcile them before every filing.
How do I handle GST when expired medicines are returned to the distributor?
CBIC Circular 72/46/2018 gives two routes for time-expired drugs. The return can be treated as a fresh supply by the person returning them, with a tax invoice if that person is registered, or the original supplier can issue a credit note under Section 34; the tax adjustment on a credit note is available only if it is reported within the statutory window, now 30 November following the financial year of supply. Where the manufacturer ultimately destroys the expired stock, input tax credit relating to the destroyed goods must be reversed under Section 17(5)(h). Pharmacies should reconcile expiry returns quarterly; call +91 - 9600 606 444 for help.
How is interest calculated if I pay GST late?
Interest is charged at 18 percent per annum under Section 50 of the CGST Act, calculated day-wise from the due date until the date of payment. Following the amendment to Section 50, interest on delayed GSTR-3B filing applies only on the portion of tax paid through the electronic cash ledger, not on the amount settled using input tax credit. For example, a cash liability of Rs.1,00,000 paid 30 days late attracts roughly Rs.1,479 as interest. We compute this precisely before filing so clients in Valasaravakkam never overpay or underpay.
Why is the portal not letting me file GSTR-1?
Under Rule 59(6) of the CGST Rules, the portal blocks GSTR-1 filing if the GSTR-3B of the preceding tax period has not been filed. GST returns are sequential, so a single skipped GSTR-3B stops the entire chain. The fix is to file the pending GSTR-3B along with its late fee and interest, after which GSTR-1 opens up again. If you are unsure which period is pending, we can check your dashboard and clear the sequence for you the same day from our office near Valasaravakkam.
We hire security guards from an agency. Should they charge GST or should we pay it ourselves?
Check the agency's constitution. Since 1 January 2019, security services by way of supply of security personnel provided by any person other than a body corporate to a registered person fall under reverse charge, so your business pays the 18 percent directly and claims credit. If the agency is a body corporate, such as a private limited company, it charges GST under forward charge on its invoice. Recipients registered under the composition scheme are excluded from this reverse charge entry. Businesses in Valasaravakkam commonly pay agencies' forward-charge invoices while also missing their own RCM cases, so an annual review of security and manpower bills is worthwhile.
Can I revise GSTR-9 after filing if I find an error?
No, GSTR-9 cannot be revised once filed. This makes pre-filing reconciliation critical, because the annual return is the department's primary reference during scrutiny and audit. If you discover unpaid liability after filing, it can be paid voluntarily through Form DRC-03 with interest, which mitigates penalty exposure. If credit was short-claimed, the annual return itself cannot fix it, since input tax credit claims are governed by the time limits in Section 16(4). Our process in Valasaravakkam involves a line-by-line reconciliation and a client sign-off before we submit anything.
How and when can I opt in or out of the QRMP scheme?
The option is exercised on the GST portal under Services, Returns, Opt-in for Quarterly Return. The window for any quarter runs from the first day of the second month of the preceding quarter to the last day of the first month of the quarter you are opting for. For example, to be under QRMP for July to September, opt in between 1 May and 31 July. Once chosen, the option continues for future quarters until you change it or your turnover crosses Rs.5 crore. We handle the opt-in for clients at no extra charge.
My company in Valasaravakkam is dormant. Is there a cheap way to stay GST compliant?
Yes. A dormant GSTIN still requires nil GSTR-1 and nil GSTR-3B every period, and nil GSTR-9 obligations may also arise depending on turnover. Our dormant-entity plan at Rs.749 per month covers both nil returns, due-date tracking and portal monitoring so notices do not go unnoticed. If you have no intention of restarting the business, it may be cheaper to surrender the registration through a cancellation application and file the final return, which we can also handle. Speak to us on +91 - 9600 606 444 and we will recommend whichever route costs you less.
By when must I issue a tax invoice when I sell goods?
For goods, Section 31 requires the tax invoice to be issued before or at the time of removal of the goods, where the supply involves movement, or before or at the time of delivery or making the goods available in other cases. In simple terms, the invoice must travel with the goods; a lorry leaving your Valasaravakkam godown without an invoice is exposed to detention even if the e-way bill exists. For continuous supplies of goods with successive statements or payments, the invoice must be issued when each statement is issued or each payment is received.
Does compensation cess still apply on any goods?
For most goods, no. With the rate restructuring of 22 September 2025, compensation cess was discontinued on items such as cars, and the demerit burden was merged into the single 40 percent rate. The cess continues only on pan masala and specified tobacco products during the transition period while past compensation cess loan obligations are being discharged. A practical point for traders: balances of unutilised compensation cess credit cannot be cross-utilised against CGST, SGST or IGST liability, so businesses holding old cess credit should evaluate their position rather than assuming it will set off future tax.
How is GST charged on clothes and footwear after the rate change?
The rate now turns on a per-piece price line of Rs.2,500. Apparel, made-up textile articles and footwear with a sale value up to Rs.2,500 per piece attract 5 percent GST, while pieces priced above Rs.2,500 attract 18 percent. The test applies item by item, so a single invoice from a garment shop in Valasaravakkam can carry both rates: a Rs.1,800 shirt at 5 percent and a Rs.4,000 pair of shoes at 18 percent on the same bill. Configure the billing software to test the price of each line item automatically rather than applying one blanket rate.
What are the rules for numbering GST invoices?
The invoice serial number must be consecutive, must not exceed sixteen characters, and may contain alphabets, numerals and the special characters hyphen and slash, in one or multiple series. Each number must be unique for a financial year, so most businesses restart their series every April with a year prefix such as 2026-27/001. Gaps in a series invite questions during audit because officers may suspect unreported invoices, and cancelled invoice numbers should be retained in records with the cancelled copy. The document series you use must also be declared in Table 13 of GSTR-1 each period.
Is the late fee charged on delayed returns the same thing as a penalty?
No, they are legally distinct. Late fee under Section 47 is an automatic, fixed daily charge for filing a return after its due date, computed by the portal and payable in cash before the return is accepted; no officer discretion or notice is involved. Penalty, under provisions such as Sections 122 to 125, is imposed through adjudication for specified offences, requires a show cause notice and hearing, and can be contested or reduced. Interest under Section 50 is a third, separate levy compensating for delayed payment. A delayed return with tax due can therefore attract all three simultaneously, each on its own footing.
Is GST charged before or after the discount shown on my invoice?
Discounts given before or at the time of supply and recorded on the face of the invoice are excluded from the value of supply under Section 15(3)(a). You therefore charge GST on the net amount after discount. For example, a Rs.10,000 item with a 10 percent trade discount shown on the invoice is taxed on Rs.9,000. The condition is documentation: the discount must appear on the invoice itself. Informal reductions settled outside the bill do not reduce taxable value. Retail schemes such as festival discounts and trade margins should always be structured to print on the invoice.
How is the place of supply decided when I sell goods?
Section 10 of the IGST Act gives the tests. Where the sale involves movement of goods, the place of supply is the location where the movement terminates for delivery to the recipient, whoever arranges the transport. Where there is no movement, it is the location of the goods at the time of delivery, which covers over-the-counter sales and sales of installed machinery in place. Where goods are assembled or installed at site, the place of supply is the site of installation. Getting this right decides whether you charge CGST plus SGST or IGST, and a Valasaravakkam seller delivering to a Bengaluru buyer charges IGST because delivery terminates in Karnataka.
What documents are required for GSTR-1 & GSTR-3B monthly filing in Valasaravakkam?
For GSTR-1 & GSTR-3B monthly filing you will generally need: Sales invoices or sales register for the month, Purchase invoices or purchase register, Credit notes and debit notes issued during the month, GST portal login credentials, Bank statement for the period, if reconciliation is needed. The exact list depends on your constitution — proprietorship, partnership, LLP or company — and on the specifics of your case. Send what you have on WhatsApp to +91 - 9600 606 444 and we will confirm within the same working day exactly what else is needed, so nothing is rejected later for a missing paper.
Do you provide gst return filing for small businesses and proprietorships in Valasaravakkam?
Yes. A large share of our clients in Valasaravakkam are proprietors, small traders, shop owners, freelancers and family businesses rather than large companies. The fee of Rs.749/month and the process are the same regardless of size, and we explain the compliance position in plain language — in Tamil or English — so you understand what is being filed on your behalf and why.
Is there a GST consultant near Valasaravakkam for gst return filing?
Yes. We serve Valasaravakkam and the surrounding areas from our office at Porur, Chennai - 600 116, Tamil Nadu, and most monthly returns work is completed online — you send documents on WhatsApp and we handle the portal work.
