Trade Profile and GST Jurisdiction for GOCHS Colony, Besant Nagar

If you operate in Besant Nagar, GST deadlines arrive with the same force as anywhere in Chennai — GSTR-1 by the 11th, GSTR-3B by the 20th. Besant Nagar's commerce clusters around Elliot's Beach and the numbered avenues: cafes, restaurants, designer boutiques, fitness studios and wellness clinics. Restaurants charging 5 per cent GST cannot claim input tax credit, a costly trap when fit-out spends are high, while boutiques and studios paying steep commercial rents bear 18 per cent GST on lease charges with little offsetting credit. We provide GSTR-1 & GSTR-3B Monthly Filing to businesses across Besant Nagar and the adjoining Adyar and Thiruvanmiyur localities, maintaining a compliance calendar for every client so due dates are met without last-minute panic, late fees or interest at 18 percent per annum.

GST jurisdiction for Besant Nagar (PIN 600090): businesses here generally fall under the CGST Chennai South Commissionerate. We regularly represent clients from Besant Nagar before this jurisdiction for registrations, clarifications and notice hearings, and can confirm your exact division and range from your GSTIN. State-jurisdiction cases are handled with the Tamil Nadu Commercial Taxes Department.
GST for Hospitals and Clinics in Besant Nagar
Healthcare services by clinical establishments and doctors are exempt, but a clinic in Besant Nagar rarely earns exempt income alone. Pharmacy sales to outpatients, implants billed separately, and cosmetic or aesthetic procedures undertaken for appearance rather than treatment are all taxable, and room charges above Rs.5,000 per day for non-ICU rooms attract 5 percent without credit. Exempt receipts still count towards aggregate turnover, so a hospital with a busy pharmacy can need registration despite mostly exempt revenue. A specialist separates the taxable streams, applies Rule 42 reversals on common expenses like housekeeping and equipment maintenance, and keeps the exemption for core treatment intact.
To get GSTR-1 & GSTR-3B Monthly Filing in Besant Nagar, share your documents by WhatsApp or visit the office, approve the prepared draft, and the filing is completed on the GST portal from Rs.749.
Why Us

Why GOCHS Colony, Besant Nagar Businesses Choose ChennaiGST

Not a bulk-filing portal. A senior consultant knows your file, your jurisdiction and your deadlines.

✓

Cancelled GSTIN? We Handle Revocation Too

A registration cancelled for non-filing is not the end of the road. We bring the pending returns up to date, clear the dues and file the revocation application in REG-21 within the permitted window, restoring suspended and cancelled GSTINs to active status.

✓

A Real Local Office You Can Walk Into

We are a Chennai firm with a physical office, not a faceless portal. If you prefer to sit across a table with your papers, you are welcome. Clients from Besant Nagar regularly visit us for registrations, notice discussions and annual return reviews.

✓

Reverse Charge Tracked, Not Forgotten

Freight paid to transporters, advocate fees, imported services and other notified supplies attract GST under reverse charge, with self-invoicing where the supplier is unregistered. We maintain a running RCM check every period, because this is the liability self-filers most consistently miss.

✓

Zero Tolerance for Late Fees and Interest

GSTR-3B late fees run at Rs.50 per day and interest at 18 percent per annum on unpaid tax. Our internal cut-offs sit days ahead of statutory due dates precisely so that our clients never hand the department a rupee they did not owe.

✓

Free Health Check of Your Past Filings

Every new client receives a review of their recent returns before we file anything — unclaimed credit, GSTR-1 versus GSTR-3B drift, and exposures worth correcting quietly. Businesses in Besant Nagar often discover in this first review exactly why their previous arrangement was costing them money.

✓

Support in Tamil and English

GST is confusing enough without a language barrier. Our team explains notices, tax positions and filing requirements in plain Tamil or English, whichever you and your staff in Besant Nagar are comfortable with, and keeps written communication simple and jargon-free.

How It Works

Our Monthly Returns Process

Monthly data collection

At month end we remind you and collect sales invoices, purchase bills and credit notes in whatever format you maintain, including Excel, Tally exports or scanned copies.

GSTR-1 preparation and filing

We prepare invoice-wise outward supply details, validate GSTINs of your B2B customers, summarise B2C supplies and file GSTR-1 on the portal before the 11th.

ITC reconciliation with GSTR-2B

We download your auto-drafted GSTR-2B, match it against purchase records, and claim only eligible input tax credit so that mismatches do not trigger scrutiny notices later.

Tax computation and confirmation

We compute net tax payable after ITC set-off, share the working with you for approval, and generate the payment challan for any cash liability.

GSTR-3B filing and reporting

After your confirmation and tax payment, we file GSTR-3B before the 20th and send you both filed acknowledgements along with a one-page summary of the month.

Why a Specialist Matters

With ChennaiGST vs Doing It Yourself

AspectWith ChennaiGSTDIY / Unattended
Registration and amendmentsQuery-resistant applications prepared correctly the first time, with supporting documents matched to what proper officers actually verify.Repeated clarification memos and resubmissions, with weeks lost because a rent agreement or premises photograph did not meet expectations.
When a notice arrivesA professional drafts the reply in the department's format and files it within the statutory window, such as thirty days for ASMT-11.You face departmental language alone, and a missed reply deadline can convert a simple query into a demand with penalty.
Supplier defaultsSuppliers who stop uploading invoices are identified within the period and pursued before their default becomes your blocked credit.Missing supplier invoices surface only when credit is denied, by which time recovering the amount from the vendor is difficult.
Refund claimsRFD-01 filed with complete statements and annexures, tracked from ARN to bank credit, with any deficiency memo answered promptly.Incomplete claims bounce back as deficiency memos while the refund sits unclaimed for months and working capital stays blocked.
Keeping up with changesRate changes, portal updates and new thresholds such as the Rs.5 crore e-invoice limit are tracked by us and applied to your case proactively.Changes are discovered after the fact — often through a rejected filing, a blocked e-way bill or a departmental letter.
Risk of noticesGSTR-1, GSTR-3B and GSTR-2B reconciled before filing, removing the mismatches that trigger most scrutiny notices.Inconsistent figures across returns quietly build a mismatch history that surfaces later as ASMT-10 scrutiny or a demand notice.

Notification

Final return GSTR-10 late fee capped at Rs 1,000

Notification No. 08/2023-Central Tax · 2023-03-31

Taxpayers whose registrations were cancelled but who never filed the final return in Form GSTR-10 were allowed to file it with the late fee capped at Rs 1,000 (CGST plus SGST), against the normal accumulation of Rs 200 per day. The window ran from 1 April 2023 to 30 June 2023 and was extended to 31 August 2023. This closed a common compliance gap that otherwise blocked clean exits and triggered notices.

What it means for you: Whenever a GSTIN is cancelled, file GSTR-10 within three months; if an old one is pending, watch for amnesty windows that cap the late fee at a nominal amount.

AAR Ruling

Electrical wiring harness classified as insulated wire, not a vehicle part

WABCO India Ltd - AAR Tamil Nadu, Order No. TN/10/AAR/2018, dated 27 September 2018 · 2018-09-27

The manufacturer supplied electrical wiring harness, essentially electrical wire with connectors at both ends, used in motor vehicles, and asked whether it should be classified as a motor vehicle part or as insulated electrical conductors. The Authority classified the product under heading 8544, which covers insulated wire and cable fitted with connectors, taxable at 9 percent central tax and 9 percent State tax following Notification No. 41/2017-Central Tax (Rate) dated 14 November 2017, the earlier rate having been higher.

Practical effect: Chennai auto component makers should classify by the tariff description of the article itself, not by the vehicle it eventually goes into.

Portal Advisory

Separate row in GSTR-3B for supplies on which the e-commerce operator pays the tax

GSTN Advisory, 2022 — Table 3.1.1 of Form GSTR-3B introduced by Notification No. 14/2022-Central Tax, dated 5 July 2022 · 2022

Table 3.1.1 was added to GSTR-3B so that supplies notified under Section 9(5), such as passenger transport, restaurant service supplied through an app, hotel accommodation and housekeeping, are reported separately. The e-commerce operator reports the value and pays the tax in row (i), while the underlying supplier reports the same value in row (ii) and pays nothing on it, so the turnover is not counted twice across the two returns.

Practical effect: Chennai restaurants and cab operators supplying through an app must still report those sales in Table 3.1.1(ii) even though the platform pays the tax.

FAQs

Frequently Asked Questions

Straight answers from practising GST consultants — based on the CGST Act, current CBIC notifications and day-to-day portal experience.

Can I get GSTR-1 & GSTR-3B monthly filing done online without visiting the office?
Yes, the entire process can be handled online. You share scanned documents on WhatsApp or email, we prepare and file everything on the GST portal, and you receive the acknowledgement and filed copies digitally. Businesses in Besant Nagar regularly complete monthly returns with us without a single office visit. If a physical verification or personal hearing is required by the department, we guide you through it.
Are there any hidden charges for GSTR-1 & GSTR-3B monthly filing?
No. The fee quoted before we start is the fee you pay. Government fees, portal charges or statutory late fees, where they apply, are separate and disclosed to you in advance with the exact amount. We issue a proper GST invoice for our professional fee. If the scope of work changes — for example, an unexpected notice or additional periods — we tell you the revised fee before doing anything further.
My bank account was debited for a GST challan but the cash ledger shows nothing. What do I do?
This is a payment-communication failure between the bank and the portal, and the prescribed remedy is Form PMT-07, filed under Services, then Payments, then Grievance against Payment. Quote the CPIN, bank name and debit details; the system takes up the discrepancy with the bank, and the amount either credits your ledger once the bank confirms, or is re-credited to your account if the transaction failed. Do not pay twice immediately; most cases resolve within a day or two. If a return due date is pressing, generate a fresh challan and later seek refund of the duplicate. Besant Nagar clients can call +91 - 9600 606 444 for urgent help.
What is the due date for GSTR-3B in Tamil Nadu?
For monthly filers, GSTR-3B is due on the 20th of the following month. If you are registered in Tamil Nadu and have opted for the QRMP scheme, your quarterly GSTR-3B is due on the 22nd of the month following the quarter. GSTR-3B is the summary return through which you actually pay tax, so missing it attracts a late fee of Rs.50 per day (Rs.20 for nil returns) plus interest at 18 percent per annum on tax paid late.
Why is the portal not letting me file GSTR-1?
Under Rule 59(6) of the CGST Rules, the portal blocks GSTR-1 filing if the GSTR-3B of the preceding tax period has not been filed. GST returns are sequential, so a single skipped GSTR-3B stops the entire chain. The fix is to file the pending GSTR-3B along with its late fee and interest, after which GSTR-1 opens up again. If you are unsure which period is pending, we can check your dashboard and clear the sequence for you the same day from our office near Besant Nagar.
How are B2B and B2C invoices reported differently in GST returns?
B2B invoices, meaning supplies to registered buyers, are reported invoice by invoice in Table 4 of GSTR-1 with the buyer's GSTIN, so each one flows into that buyer's GSTR-2B for credit. B2C supplies are split into two streams: large inter-state invoices above the threshold are reported invoice-wise in Table 5, while all remaining B2C sales are reported as consolidated, rate-wise totals per state in Table 7. This is why capturing the buyer's GSTIN correctly at billing matters so much; an invoice keyed as B2C by a cashier gives the registered buyer no credit and triggers correction requests later.
How do I handle GST when expired medicines are returned to the distributor?
CBIC Circular 72/46/2018 gives two routes for time-expired drugs. The return can be treated as a fresh supply by the person returning them, with a tax invoice if that person is registered, or the original supplier can issue a credit note under Section 34; the tax adjustment on a credit note is available only if it is reported within the statutory window, now 30 November following the financial year of supply. Where the manufacturer ultimately destroys the expired stock, input tax credit relating to the destroyed goods must be reversed under Section 17(5)(h). Pharmacies should reconcile expiry returns quarterly; call +91 - 9600 606 444 for help.
How is interest calculated if I pay GST late?
Interest is charged at 18 percent per annum under Section 50 of the CGST Act, calculated day-wise from the due date until the date of payment. Following the amendment to Section 50, interest on delayed GSTR-3B filing applies only on the portion of tax paid through the electronic cash ledger, not on the amount settled using input tax credit. For example, a cash liability of Rs.1,00,000 paid 30 days late attracts roughly Rs.1,479 as interest. We compute this precisely before filing so clients in Besant Nagar never overpay or underpay.
My supplier has not uploaded an invoice and it is missing from GSTR-2B. Can I still claim the ITC?
No, not until it appears. Since 1 January 2022, Section 16(2)(aa) permits ITC only on invoices furnished by the supplier in GSTR-1 and communicated to you in GSTR-2B; the earlier provisional credit tolerance is gone. Claiming credit on a missing invoice invites a Rule 88D intimation and reversal with interest at 18 percent. The practical remedy is vendor follow-up: withhold the tax portion of payment until the supplier uploads, and claim the credit in the month it appears in GSTR-2B, subject to the overall time limit of 30 November following the financial year. Vendor discipline clauses in purchase orders help enormously.
My business had zero sales this month. Do I still need to file GST returns?
Yes. Every registered taxpayer must file returns for every tax period, even when there are no sales, no purchases and no tax liability. In that case you file nil GSTR-1 and nil GSTR-3B. Failure to file nil returns attracts a late fee of Rs.20 per day per return, capped at Rs.500 per return, and breaks the sequential filing chain. Prolonged non-filing can lead to suspension and eventually cancellation of your GSTIN. Our nil return plan for dormant businesses in Besant Nagar starts at just Rs.749 per month.
How and when can I opt in or out of the QRMP scheme?
The option is exercised on the GST portal under Services, Returns, Opt-in for Quarterly Return. The window for any quarter runs from the first day of the second month of the preceding quarter to the last day of the first month of the quarter you are opting for. For example, to be under QRMP for July to September, opt in between 1 May and 31 July. Once chosen, the option continues for future quarters until you change it or your turnover crosses Rs.5 crore. We handle the opt-in for clients at no extra charge.
How is the place of supply decided when I sell goods?
Section 10 of the IGST Act gives the tests. Where the sale involves movement of goods, the place of supply is the location where the movement terminates for delivery to the recipient, whoever arranges the transport. Where there is no movement, it is the location of the goods at the time of delivery, which covers over-the-counter sales and sales of installed machinery in place. Where goods are assembled or installed at site, the place of supply is the site of installation. Getting this right decides whether you charge CGST plus SGST or IGST, and a Besant Nagar seller delivering to a Bengaluru buyer charges IGST because delivery terminates in Karnataka.
I deposited money under the wrong head in my GST cash ledger. Why can the amount not be used?
The cash ledger is divided into major heads, IGST, CGST, SGST and cess, and minor heads, tax, interest, penalty, fee and others. An amount deposited under one combination, say CGST-penalty, cannot be directly used to pay under another, say IGST-tax, which is why your balance appears unusable despite money lying in the ledger. The remedy is Form PMT-09, which transfers the amount to the correct head instantly without any officer approval. Many Besant Nagar taxpayers wrongly deposit a fresh challan in this situation; a two-minute PMT-09 filing saves that duplication. Call +91 - 9600 606 444 if your ledger looks stuck.
How many digits of the HSN code must I print on my tax invoices?
Under Notification 78/2020 Central Tax, taxpayers with aggregate turnover up to Rs.5 crore in the preceding financial year must mention a 4-digit HSN code on all B2B tax invoices, though it is optional on B2C invoices. Taxpayers with turnover above Rs.5 crore must mention 6-digit HSN codes on every invoice, including B2C. Eight digits are required for specified goods such as certain chemicals and for export documentation. Services follow the same rule using SAC codes, which begin with 99. Printing truncated or wrong codes on invoices creates mismatches later, so set the codes correctly in your billing software once.
What happened to the old 12 percent and 28 percent GST slabs?
Both slabs were abolished with effect from 22 September 2025. Nearly all goods that were at 12 percent moved down to 5 percent, and the bulk of the 28 percent items moved to 18 percent, with only a small set of luxury and demerit goods shifted up to the special 40 percent rate. This means old rate charts, printed price lists and software masters created before September 2025 are unreliable. Before quoting or billing, confirm the current rate against the CBIC rate notifications for your exact HSN code, or call +91 - 9600 606 444 and we will verify it for your product list.
How do I round off tax amounts on a GST invoice?
Section 170 of the CGST Act prescribes normal rounding to the nearest rupee: where the tax contains a part of a rupee, fifty paise or more is rounded up to one rupee, and less than fifty paise is ignored. The rounding is applied to the tax amount on each invoice, separately for each tax head, so CGST and SGST are each rounded individually rather than rounding only the invoice total. Most billing software handles this automatically, but spreadsheets and manual bills often round the grand total instead, creating one-rupee mismatches that clutter reconciliations across thousands of invoices.
What GST do hotels charge on room tariffs after the 2025 rate changes?
From 22 September 2025, hotel accommodation with a value of supply up to Rs.7,500 per unit per day attracts 5 percent GST without input tax credit, and accommodation above Rs.7,500 attracts 18 percent with input tax credit. The earlier 12 percent slab for mid-range rooms was abolished in the rate rationalisation. Tax applies on the actual transaction value charged, so a discounted rate below Rs.7,500 falls in the 5 percent bracket even if the printed tariff is higher. Hotels should reconfigure billing software slab-wise and watch the ITC restriction on the 5 percent category, which changes costing materially.
Why is there GST on an under-construction flat but not on a ready-to-move one?
Construction of an apartment intended for sale is a supply of service only when any part of the consideration is received before the completion certificate is issued or before first occupation. Such under-construction sales attract 1 percent for affordable residential apartments and 5 percent for other residential apartments, both without input tax credit to the builder. Once the completion certificate is issued, sale of the building is neither a supply of goods nor of services under Schedule III, so a ready-to-move flat carries no GST at all, only stamp duty and registration charges. Timing of booking therefore changes the buyer's cost materially.
Do you provide GSTR-1 & GSTR-3B monthly filing for businesses on GOCHS Colony?
Yes. We serve businesses on and around GOCHS Colony in Besant Nagar — shops, offices, godowns and home-run businesses alike. Document pickup can be arranged at your premises, or you can send everything on WhatsApp and complete monthly returns without leaving your counter. Do you provide gst return filing for small businesses and proprietorships in Besant Nagar?
Yes. A large share of our clients in Besant Nagar are proprietors, small traders, shop owners, freelancers and family businesses rather than large companies. The fee of Rs.749/month and the process are the same regardless of size, and we explain the compliance position in plain language — in Tamil or English — so you understand what is being filed on your behalf and why.
What is the process for GSTR-1 & GSTR-3B monthly filing?
The process runs in clear stages: Monthly data collection; GSTR-1 preparation and filing; ITC reconciliation with GSTR-2B; Tax computation and confirmation. A senior consultant reviews your file at each stage rather than passing it to a data-entry desk, and you receive a confirmation with the filed documents once it is complete. You always know which stage your work is at — we update you on WhatsApp instead of leaving you to follow up.
