Trade Profile and GST Jurisdiction for Thiruverkadu

Thiruverkadu draws steady pilgrim crowds to the Devi Karumariamman temple, supporting flower and pooja shops on Sannathi Street, eateries, marriage halls and a fast-growing residential belt along Koladi Road and Thiruverkadu Main Road towards Velappanchavadi on Poonamallee High Road. Marriage hall owners charging 18 per cent GST on hall rent and caterers billing event food are the compliance profiles this town produces most. Against that backdrop, DRC-01/DRC-01A Demand Reply in Thiruverkadu demands more than data entry — it needs reconciliation before filing, correct classification and awareness of what local officers examine. Our Chennai team provides exactly that to clients in Thiruverkadu, Avadi and Maduravoyal, with same-day responses on working days and WhatsApp updates at every stage. Most routine engagements complete within one to two working days once documents are in hand.

GST jurisdiction for Thiruverkadu (PIN 600077): businesses here generally fall under the CGST Chennai Outer Commissionerate. We regularly represent clients from Thiruverkadu before this jurisdiction for registrations, clarifications and notice hearings, and can confirm your exact division and range from your GSTIN. State-jurisdiction cases are handled with the Tamil Nadu Commercial Taxes Department.
GST for Restaurants and Cloud Kitchens in Thiruverkadu
Restaurant service is taxed at 5 percent without input tax credit, so GST paid on rent, kitchen equipment and packaging is a cost your menu pricing must absorb. Orders routed through Swiggy or Zomato fall under Section 9(5), where the platform itself pays the tax, yet you must still disclose those supplies separately in GSTR-1, keeping direct billing and aggregator billing distinct. A cloud kitchen running several brands from one Thiruverkadu address needs one registration with disciplined brand-wise invoicing, not separate GSTINs. A specialist splits the two order streams correctly every month and prevents double taxation of aggregator sales. Call +91 - 9600 606 444 to review your setup.
For DRC-01/DRC-01A Demand Reply in Thiruverkadu, you typically need your PAN, Aadhaar, business address proof, bank details and relevant invoices; the exact checklist is shared on WhatsApp and fees start at Rs.4,999.
Why Us

Why Thiruverkadu Businesses Choose ChennaiGST

Not a bulk-filing portal. A senior consultant knows your file, your jurisdiction and your deadlines.

Fast, Clean Registrations and Amendments

New GSTIN applications, core field amendments through REG-14, additional places of business — we prepare complete, query-resistant applications the first time. Clean paperwork is the difference between smooth approval and weeks lost answering clarification memos from the department.

Advisory, Not Just Data Entry

We tell you when the composition scheme stops making sense, when QRMP suits your cash flow, and when a supplier's non-compliance is quietly costing you credit. Filing is the minimum; helping you make better GST decisions is the actual job.

Support Through Audits and Hearings

When an ADT-01 audit intimation or a personal hearing date arrives, we compile the records, prepare the reconciliations and draft the submissions, and coordinate closely with your authorised representative. You walk into the proceeding prepared, not improvising in front of an officer.

E-Commerce Seller Reconciliation, Including TCS

Sellers on Amazon, Flipkart and other marketplaces face a three-way match between marketplace reports, GSTR-1 and the TCS the operator deposits against your GSTIN. We reconcile all three every period and accept the TCS credit, so sellers in Thiruverkadu never leave marketplace deductions unclaimed.

Every Return Reviewed by a Senior Consultant

No filing leaves our desk on a junior's judgement alone. A senior GST practitioner reviews your figures, ITC claims and tax computation before submission, so errors are caught at our table and not by the department months later through a notice.

ITC Maximisation Within the Law

We match your purchase register against GSTR-2B every period, follow up on invoices your suppliers have not uploaded, and ensure every rupee of eligible input tax credit is claimed. Clients routinely recover credit they were silently losing under self-filing.

How It Works

Our Demand Reply Process

Demand analysis

We examine whether the notice is under Section 73 or 74, check the limitation period, and break the demand into issues that can be defended separately.

Merits assessment

Each issue is tested against your records, GSTR-2B and case law, and we give you a candid view of what is defensible and what is genuinely payable.

DRC-06 reply drafting

A detailed statutory reply is drafted in Form DRC-06 with reconciliations, invoices and legal grounds, shared for your approval and filed on the portal in time.

Hearing and payment strategy

We represent you at the personal hearing. For any admitted liability we file DRC-03 promptly, using the concessional closure available under Section 73 where applicable.

Order and next steps

We track the adjudication outcome, review any order in DRC-07, and advise on rectification or appeal in APL-01 within three months if the demand is confirmed.

Outcomes

What You Get

Practical outcomes our clients measure us by.

Fewer Errors at the Billing Counter

Your billing staff are guided on invoice fields, rates and series discipline, so mistakes are prevented where they originate — at the counter — instead of being repaired later in the returns.

Due-Diligence Ready for Investors and Buyers

Funding rounds, partnerships and business sales all begin with a compliance check. A clean, documented GST history lets you clear that scrutiny quickly instead of watching a deal stall over old filing gaps.

Marketplace Accounts That Stay Live

E-commerce platforms continuously validate seller GSTINs and filing status. A consistently compliant registration keeps your listings active and settlements flowing, with no sudden suspension of your online sales channel.

Closure Without Loose Ends

When a business winds up, proper cancellation and a timely final return ensure the file is genuinely closed, so no demand or late-fee computation resurfaces against you long after the shutters came down.

No Money Idling in the Cash Ledger

Excess balances parked in the electronic cash ledger are identified during regular ledger reviews and either utilised against upcoming liability or claimed back as a refund, instead of sitting interest-free with the government.

Goods That Move Without Detention

Correct e-way bills matched to correct invoices mean your consignments clear roadside inspections cleanly, avoiding detention proceedings whose penalties can far exceed the tax on the goods being carried.

Why a Specialist Matters

With ChennaiGST vs Doing It Yourself

AspectWith ChennaiGSTDIY / Unattended
Portal credentials and dataLogins handled by a small engaged team under strict confidentiality, with credentials stored securely and never passed onward.Passwords circulating on chats with freelancers and part-timers, and no accountability for who has accessed your business data.
Time costRoughly an hour a month to send data and approve drafts; the portal work, reconciliation and follow-up are ours.Hours every month lost to portal errors, JSON files, OTP failures and reworking figures — usually on the due date itself.
Late fees and interestFilings go in ahead of statutory dates, so the Rs.50-per-day late fee and 18 percent interest never arise.Late fees accumulate silently every delayed day, and interest on unpaid tax runs at 18 percent per annum.
When a notice arrivesA professional drafts the reply in the department's format and files it within the statutory window, such as thirty days for ASMT-11.You face departmental language alone, and a missed reply deadline can convert a simple query into a demand with penalty.
Refund claimsRFD-01 filed with complete statements and annexures, tracked from ARN to bank credit, with any deficiency memo answered promptly.Incomplete claims bounce back as deficiency memos while the refund sits unclaimed for months and working capital stays blocked.
Supplier defaultsSuppliers who stop uploading invoices are identified within the period and pursued before their default becomes your blocked credit.Missing supplier invoices surface only when credit is denied, by which time recovering the amount from the vendor is difficult.
Case Law & Notifications

Gujarat High Court reads down mandatory one-third land deduction for GST on construction

Munjaal Manishbhai Bhatt v. Union of India — Gujarat High Court, 2022 · 2022-05-06

In a bungalow purchase where land constituted the dominant value, the Gujarat High Court held that the deeming fiction treating land value as one-third of the total consideration for GST on construction is arbitrary if applied mandatorily. Where the actual value of land is ascertainable from the agreement, tax must be computed after deducting the real land value; the one-third deduction in the rate notification was read down as optional, available at the taxpayer's choice.

How we apply it: Builders and buyers with separately valued land agreements can compute GST on actual construction value — worth revisiting for plotted developments and villa projects around Chennai.

Circular

Re-determining a demand when the extended period is not sustained

Circular No. 185/17/2022-GST · 2022-12-27

Where an appellate authority, tribunal or court holds that a notice issued under Section 74 is not sustainable because fraud, wilful misstatement or suppression of facts is not established, Section 75(2) requires the proper officer to re-determine the tax as though the notice had been issued under Section 73. The Board clarified that this re-determination must be completed within two years from the date of communication of that order, and only the normal period demand can survive.

Practical effect: Winning on the suppression point in appeal does not end the matter, but it limits the surviving Chennai demand to the normal period and starts a two-year clock on the department.

AAR Ruling

Electrical wiring harness classified as insulated wire, not a vehicle part

WABCO India Ltd - AAR Tamil Nadu, Order No. TN/10/AAR/2018, dated 27 September 2018 · 2018-09-27

The manufacturer supplied electrical wiring harness, essentially electrical wire with connectors at both ends, used in motor vehicles, and asked whether it should be classified as a motor vehicle part or as insulated electrical conductors. The Authority classified the product under heading 8544, which covers insulated wire and cable fitted with connectors, taxable at 9 percent central tax and 9 percent State tax following Notification No. 41/2017-Central Tax (Rate) dated 14 November 2017, the earlier rate having been higher.

Practical effect: Chennai auto component makers should classify by the tariff description of the article itself, not by the vehicle it eventually goes into.

No payment, no account. If the notice does not state a date we can read, it says so rather than guessing one for you.

FAQs

Frequently Asked Questions

Straight answers from practising GST consultants — based on the CGST Act, current CBIC notifications and day-to-day portal experience.

How long does DRC-01/DRC-01A demand reply take in Thiruverkadu?
Draft reply in 5-7 working days. That assumes your documents are complete and there is no departmental query. We start the same day we receive your papers and tell you the realistic completion date upfront rather than an optimistic one. Where the GST portal or the officer causes delay — clarifications, physical verification or system issues — we track it daily and keep you informed on WhatsApp.
Are there any hidden charges for DRC-01/DRC-01A demand reply?
No. The fee quoted before we start is the fee you pay. Government fees, portal charges or statutory late fees, where they apply, are separate and disclosed to you in advance with the exact amount. We issue a proper GST invoice for our professional fee. If the scope of work changes — for example, an unexpected notice or additional periods — we tell you the revised fee before doing anything further.
What is the difference between DRC-01A and DRC-01 in GST?
DRC-01A is a pre-show-cause intimation. In Part A the officer communicates the tax, interest and penalty he has ascertained and gives you a chance to pay or explain before formal proceedings begin; you can respond through Part B of the same form. DRC-01, by contrast, is the summary of a formal show cause notice under Section 73 or Section 74, which starts adjudication and must be answered in Form DRC-06. Handling the DRC-01A stage well can close a matter quietly, whereas a DRC-01 requires a full legal defence. Send us the document on +91 - 9600 606 444 and we will tell you which stage you are at.
How much time does the GST department have to issue a demand under Section 73?
For a Section 73 demand, the adjudication order must be passed within three years from the due date of the annual return for the financial year concerned, and the show cause notice must be issued at least three months before that deadline. For Section 74 fraud cases, the order deadline is five years with the notice issued at least six months earlier. For tax periods from FY 2024-25 onwards, a new common provision in Section 74A applies with its own timelines. Always check limitation first; notices issued beyond these dates can be challenged as time-barred, which ChennaiGST examines in every Thiruverkadu demand case.
Should I just pay the amount mentioned in a DRC-01A intimation?
Only after checking the working. DRC-01A is an invitation to settle before a show cause notice, and if you agree with the ascertainment you can pay through DRC-03 and intimate it in Part B, after which no notice is issued for that amount. In a Section 73 matter, paying with interest at this stage means zero penalty, which is a genuine saving. But officers' ascertainments often ignore reconciliations, eligible credits or amounts already paid. Verify the computation, pay only what is truly due, and contest the balance in Part B with reasons. ChennaiGST routinely trims DRC-01A figures for clients before payment.
Can the penalty in a Section 74 fraud case be reduced by paying early?
Yes, Section 74 has a built-in incentive to settle early. If you pay the tax and interest before the show cause notice is issued, the penalty is 15 percent of the tax. If you pay within thirty days of the notice, penalty is 25 percent and the proceedings conclude. Even after the order, paying within thirty days limits penalty to 50 percent instead of 100 percent. Payments are made in DRC-03 with the correct cause selected. Whether to settle or contest depends on the strength of the fraud allegation, so have the notice evaluated professionally before choosing; call +91 - 9600 606 444 for an assessment.
How do I reply to a DRC-01 show cause notice online?
The reply to a show cause notice summarised in DRC-01 is filed in Form DRC-06 on the GST portal. Log in, open View Additional Notices and Orders, select the case and use the reply option to upload your written submissions and supporting documents, and opt for a personal hearing. A good DRC-06 addresses each allegation separately, annexes reconciliations, invoices and ledgers, cites the relevant provisions and circulars, and raises limitation and jurisdiction objections where available. File within the time allowed in the notice. ChennaiGST drafts DRC-06 replies for Thiruverkadu businesses with a hearing strategy built in from the start.
I paid a demand through DRC-03 but the portal still shows it outstanding. What is Form DRC-03A?
This happens because a DRC-03 payment does not automatically knock off a demand created in the electronic liability register through DRC-07. Form DRC-03A, introduced through Notification 12/2024 and Rule 142(2B), lets you link an earlier DRC-03 payment made under the cause voluntary or others to a specific demand order. File it under My Applications, select the DRC-03 ARN and the demand order number, and the system adjusts the liability register accordingly. Without this mapping, recovery notices can continue despite full payment, so businesses in Thiruverkadu with paid-but-open demands should file DRC-03A promptly.
How do I check whether any GST notices have been issued to my business?
Log in to gst.gov.in and go to Services, then User Services, then View Notices and Orders for registration-related communications. Crucially, adjudication notices such as ASMT-10, DRC-01A and DRC-01 appear under a separate tab called View Additional Notices and Orders, which many taxpayers never open. Also verify that the email and mobile number on your registration are current, since the portal sends alerts there. We advise Thiruverkadu businesses to check both tabs at least once a month, because a reply deadline starts running from the date of issue on the portal, not from when you happen to see it.
I received an ASMT-10 scrutiny notice for my Thiruverkadu business. What exactly is it?
ASMT-10 is a notice issued under Section 61 after the officer scrutinises your filed returns and finds discrepancies, such as differences between GSTR-1 and GSTR-3B, excess ITC compared with GSTR-2B, or turnover gaps against e-way bill data. It is not yet a demand; it is an opportunity to explain. You must respond in Form ASMT-11 within thirty days, either justifying each discrepancy with reconciliations or accepting the liability and paying through DRC-03. A well-documented ASMT-11 usually closes the matter with an ASMT-12 acceptance order. Scrutiny notices are common among Thiruverkadu traders, so respond seriously but without panic.
How many days do I get to reply to an ASMT-10 notice?
The reply in Form ASMT-11 must be filed within thirty days of being informed of the discrepancies, or within such further time as the officer permits. If you need more time to gather reconciliations, write to the officer seeking an extension before the deadline instead of staying silent. The thirty days pass quickly because a proper reply needs invoice-level matching of GSTR-1, GSTR-3B, GSTR-2B and your books, so start compiling data the day the notice arrives. ChennaiGST typically completes the reconciliation and files the ASMT-11 well within the window for Thiruverkadu clients; call +91 - 9600 606 444 if your deadline is close.
Is GST still charged on life and health insurance premiums?
No. With effect from 22 September 2025, premiums on all individual life insurance policies, including term plans, endowment plans and ULIPs, and all individual health insurance policies, including family floater and senior citizen plans, are exempt from GST. Reinsurance of these policies is also exempt. Earlier these premiums bore 18 percent tax. Note that the exemption applies to policies taken by individuals; certain group covers procured by businesses can still attract GST, and insurers can no longer claim input credit attributable to exempt policies. Policyholders should see the benefit directly in renewal notices.
How do I register my DSC on the GST portal, and why does the emSigner error keep appearing?
After logging in, open My Profile and select Register or Update DSC, choose the authorised signatory's PAN, and sign with the USB token; the certificate must be Class 3 and the PAN on it must match the signatory's PAN on the portal. Signing requires the emSigner utility running in the background, and the common failure to establish connection error means emSigner is not started, is blocked by the browser, or another application occupies its port. Run emSigner as administrator, keep the token connected, and use the trusted-site settings the portal recommends. We troubleshoot DSC issues for Thiruverkadu companies routinely; call +91 - 9600 606 444.
We hire cabs monthly for employee transport in Thiruverkadu. Who pays the GST?
If the cab operator is not a body corporate, charges 5 percent, and your business is a body corporate, the liability shifts to you under reverse charge. The entry covers renting of motor vehicles designed to carry passengers where the cost of fuel is included in the consideration. If the operator is itself a company, or bills at the higher rate with full ITC, 18 percent since the September 2025 rate rationalisation, forward charge applies and the operator collects the tax. Remember that even after paying RCM, the ITC on employee transport in vehicles seating up to thirteen is blocked under Section 17(5) unless providing the transport is obligatory for the employer under a law.
I deposited money under the wrong head in my GST cash ledger. Why can the amount not be used?
The cash ledger is divided into major heads, IGST, CGST, SGST and cess, and minor heads, tax, interest, penalty, fee and others. An amount deposited under one combination, say CGST-penalty, cannot be directly used to pay under another, say IGST-tax, which is why your balance appears unusable despite money lying in the ledger. The remedy is Form PMT-09, which transfers the amount to the correct head instantly without any officer approval. Many Thiruverkadu taxpayers wrongly deposit a fresh challan in this situation; a two-minute PMT-09 filing saves that duplication. Call +91 - 9600 606 444 if your ledger looks stuck.
When can goods move on a delivery challan instead of a tax invoice?
Rule 55 permits movement on a delivery challan where the transportation is not itself a supply: sending inputs or capital goods for job work, taking goods to an exhibition or for approval where the sale is not yet certain, supplying liquid gas where the quantity is unknown at removal, and moving goods in semi-knocked-down form in multiple consignments, where the full invoice travels with the first lot. The challan is prepared in triplicate and an e-way bill is still required where value thresholds are crossed. Goods sent on approval must be invoiced within six months, failing which tax becomes payable.
Can I transfer cash ledger balance from one GSTIN to another GSTIN of the same PAN?
Yes, within limits. Under Section 49(10), unutilised IGST and CGST balances in the electronic cash ledger can be transferred through PMT-09 to the cash ledger of a distinct person, that is, another GSTIN registered on the same PAN in the same or another state. SGST balances cannot be moved across states in this manner. The transfer is not permitted if the transferring GSTIN has any unpaid liability standing in its electronic liability register. Multi-state businesses headquartered in Thiruverkadu use this to shift idle deposits to the branch that actually needs the cash, avoiding fresh working capital outflow.
How is GST charged on hotel room tariffs after the rate changes?
Hotel accommodation with a value of supply up to Rs.7,500 per unit per day attracts 5 percent GST without input tax credit, a reduction from the earlier 12 percent. Rooms priced above Rs.7,500 per day attract 18 percent with full input tax credit. The rate is determined by the actual transaction value charged for the room, so seasonal discounts can change the applicable rate on the same room across bookings. Lodges and hotels around Thiruverkadu should configure billing software to test the per-day value on each invoice rather than fixing one rate for the property.
