Trade Profile and GST Jurisdiction for Chennai Bypass Expressway, Gerugambakkam

Finding dependable GSTR-1 & GSTR-3B Monthly Filing in Gerugambakkam usually means choosing between a distant online portal and an overloaded local accountant. Gerugambakkam straddles the Chennai Bypass and Kodambakkam-Sriperumbudur Road west of Moulivakkam, where farmland along T. Ponnambalam Salai, Sankaralinganar Street and Pallavaram Road has been broken into plotted layouts feeding Maxworth Nagar and Madha Nagar. Land promoters, civil contractors, hollow-block and ready-mix units, hardware shops and lorry operators bill from here. Land-versus-construction valuation, works-contract rates, reverse charge on goods transport agency freight and belated GSTR-3B filing are the recurring pain points. We offer a third option: a professional Chennai GST practice that treats Gerugambakkam, Moulivakkam and Kovur as home ground, responds the same working day, files ahead of deadlines, and stands behind its work if a notice ever arrives on a return we prepared.

GST jurisdiction for Gerugambakkam (PIN 600122): businesses here generally fall under the CGST Chennai Outer Commissionerate. We regularly represent clients from Gerugambakkam before this jurisdiction for registrations, clarifications and notice hearings, and can confirm your exact division and range from your GSTIN. State-jurisdiction cases are handled with the Tamil Nadu Commercial Taxes Department.
GST for IT and SaaS Companies in Gerugambakkam
IT and SaaS services are taxed at 18 percent domestically, but the real complexity is qualifying overseas billing as export under Section 2(6) of the IGST Act: the recipient must be outside India, consideration must arrive in convertible foreign exchange or INR where RBI permits, and the Indian entity and foreign recipient must not be mere establishments of the same person. Marketing or support arms serving a foreign parent risk classification as intermediaries under Section 13(8), making the place of supply India and the income taxable. Supplies to SEZ units are zero-rated with proper endorsements. A specialist structures contracts and invoicing so export status survives departmental scrutiny.
The cost of GSTR-1 & GSTR-3B Monthly Filing in Gerugambakkam starts at Rs.749 as a fixed professional fee quoted upfront, with any government fees shown separately and no hidden additions later.
Why Us

Why Chennai Bypass Expressway, Gerugambakkam Businesses Choose ChennaiGST

Not a bulk-filing portal. A senior consultant knows your file, your jurisdiction and your deadlines.

✓

No Handing Off to Untrained Juniors

Your work is executed by trained GST staff working under direct senior supervision, not passed to interns learning on your file. The person preparing your return understands reverse charge, blocked credits and place of supply, because getting these wrong costs you money.

✓

Proactive Alerts Before Problems Become Notices

If your GSTR-1 and GSTR-3B start drifting apart, if a large supplier stops filing, or if your turnover approaches the e-invoice threshold, we flag it to you immediately. Early warnings from our side are cheaper than departmental letters later.

✓

Refund and Export Experience That Shows

From filing the LUT in RFD-11 at the start of each financial year to preparing RFD-01 refund claims with complete annexures, we know what makes a refund file move. Exporters and inverted-duty businesses come to us specifically for this.

✓

Cancelled GSTIN? We Handle Revocation Too

A registration cancelled for non-filing is not the end of the road. We bring the pending returns up to date, clear the dues and file the revocation application in REG-21 within the permitted window, restoring suspended and cancelled GSTINs to active status.

✓

Zero Tolerance for Late Fees and Interest

GSTR-3B late fees run at Rs.50 per day and interest at 18 percent per annum on unpaid tax. Our internal cut-offs sit days ahead of statutory due dates precisely so that our clients never hand the department a rupee they did not owe.

✓

GSTR-9 and GSTR-9C Handled In-House

The annual return and, where turnover crosses Rs.5 crore, the self-certified reconciliation statement in GSTR-9C are prepared by the same team that filed your monthly returns. Nothing about your year has to be rediscovered or explained to a stranger in December.

How It Works

Our Monthly Returns Process

Monthly data collection

At month end we remind you and collect sales invoices, purchase bills and credit notes in whatever format you maintain, including Excel, Tally exports or scanned copies.

GSTR-1 preparation and filing

We prepare invoice-wise outward supply details, validate GSTINs of your B2B customers, summarise B2C supplies and file GSTR-1 on the portal before the 11th.

ITC reconciliation with GSTR-2B

We download your auto-drafted GSTR-2B, match it against purchase records, and claim only eligible input tax credit so that mismatches do not trigger scrutiny notices later.

Tax computation and confirmation

We compute net tax payable after ITC set-off, share the working with you for approval, and generate the payment challan for any cash liability.

GSTR-3B filing and reporting

After your confirmation and tax payment, we file GSTR-3B before the 20th and send you both filed acknowledgements along with a one-page summary of the month.

Outcomes

What You Get

Practical outcomes our clients measure us by.

★

Annual Returns Without the Year-End Scramble

Because monthly data is reconciled as it happens, GSTR-9 preparation before the 31 December due date becomes a review exercise rather than a painful reconstruction of twelve untidy months.

★

Tax Paid Under the Right Head

Getting IGST versus CGST and SGST right at the invoice stage spares you the painful cycle of paying the correct head again and pursuing a refund of the amount paid under the wrong one.

★

A Written Trail for Every Decision

Tax positions, rate choices and credit calls are documented as they are made, so if a question arises years later, the reasoning and evidence are on file rather than in someone's fading memory.

★

Audit-Ready Records at All Times

Filed returns, challans, reconciliations and working papers are archived in order from day one. If an audit or departmental verification comes, your file is ready the same week, not assembled in a panic.

★

Export Benefits Fully Utilised

With the LUT filed at the start of each financial year and refund claims tracked to credit, exporters supply without blocking funds in IGST and recover accumulated credit on schedule.

★

Books and Returns That Agree at Year End

Because turnover in your GST returns is kept aligned with your accounts through the year, income tax filing and statutory audit proceed without the GST-versus-books mismatch queries that now surface routinely through data matching.

Why a Specialist Matters

With ChennaiGST vs Doing It Yourself

AspectWith ChennaiGSTDIY / Unattended
When a notice arrivesA professional drafts the reply in the department's format and files it within the statutory window, such as thirty days for ASMT-11.You face departmental language alone, and a missed reply deadline can convert a simple query into a demand with penalty.
Goods in transitE-way bills generated correctly and matched to invoices, so consignments pass roadside inspections without detention or penalty.A defective or missing e-way bill can mean detention at a checkpoint, with penalties that dwarf the tax on the consignment.
Record keepingEvery return, challan, acknowledgement and working paper archived in an organised folder, retrievable in minutes years later.Documents scattered across email, downloads and old phones; assembling records for a bank or an audit takes days.
Risk of noticesGSTR-1, GSTR-3B and GSTR-2B reconciled before filing, removing the mismatches that trigger most scrutiny notices.Inconsistent figures across returns quietly build a mismatch history that surfaces later as ASMT-10 scrutiny or a demand notice.
Supplier defaultsSuppliers who stop uploading invoices are identified within the period and pursued before their default becomes your blocked credit.Missing supplier invoices surface only when credit is denied, by which time recovering the amount from the vendor is difficult.
Keeping up with changesRate changes, portal updates and new thresholds such as the Rs.5 crore e-invoice limit are tracked by us and applied to your case proactively.Changes are discovered after the fact — often through a rejected filing, a blocked e-way bill or a departmental letter.

Real notifications, rulings and case law our consultants track — and apply to client filings and notice replies.

Notification

Food delivery apps made liable to pay GST on restaurant supplies

Notification No. 17/2021-Central Tax (Rate) dated 18.11.2021 · 2021-11-18

With effect from 1 January 2022, restaurant service supplied through an electronic commerce operator was notified under section 9(5) of the CGST Act. The operator, such as a food delivery platform, became liable to collect and pay the tax on those supplies instead of the restaurant, except where the restaurant is located in specified premises. The same notification also brought passenger transport by omnibus and certain motor vehicles supplied through an operator within section 9(5). Restaurants continue to report such supplies but do not pay tax on them.

Why this matters: A Chennai restaurant selling through a delivery app should show those sales separately in GSTR-3B as supplies on which the operator pays tax, and must not pay tax on them again.

AAR Ruling

Ready to cook idli, dosa and porridge mixes taxable at 18 percent

Krishna Bhavan Foods and Sweets - AAR Tamil Nadu, Order No. TN/24/AAR/2021, dated 18 June 2021, upheld by AAAR Tamil Nadu, Order No. TN/AAAR/02/2022, dated 13 January 2022 · 2021-06-18

The applicant sold packaged ready to cook instant mixes for dosai, idli, tiffin items, sweets, health mix and porridge. It argued that these were only flours of cereals and pulses taxable at 5 percent. The Authority classified the products under heading 2106 90 as food preparations not elsewhere specified, attracting 18 percent GST, because the mixing and added ingredients took them out of the concessional flour entries. The Appellate Authority upheld that classification.

Practical effect: Chennai food manufacturers selling instant mixes should confirm whether the product is a plain flour or a preparation before applying 5 percent.

Case Law

Application to condone delay in filing GST returns to be considered sympathetically

Tvl. Ranjini Enterprises v. State Tax Officer — Madras High Court (Madurai Bench), W.P.(MD) No. 5172 of 2024, decided 5 March 2024 (B. Pugalendhi J.) · 2024-03-05

A best-of-judgment assessment of about Rs 5 lakh was raised for non-filing of the April 2023 return, the dealer contending that the real liability was about Rs 2 lakh, which was paid once the assessment came to its notice. The Madras High Court permitted the dealer to file an application for condonation of the delay in filing the return and directed the State Tax Officer to consider that application sympathetically in the light of the Court's earlier precedent. The writ petition was disposed of on those terms without any order as to costs.

How we apply it: Where late returns have triggered adverse consequences, a formal condonation application supported by reasons is the correct first step in Tamil Nadu.

FAQs

Frequently Asked Questions

Straight answers from practising GST consultants — based on the CGST Act, current CBIC notifications and day-to-day portal experience.

How long does GSTR-1 & GSTR-3B monthly filing take in Gerugambakkam?
Filed before the 11th and 20th of every month. That assumes your documents are complete and there is no departmental query. We start the same day we receive your papers and tell you the realistic completion date upfront rather than an optimistic one. Where the GST portal or the officer causes delay — clarifications, physical verification or system issues — we track it daily and keep you informed on WhatsApp.
Do you provide gst return filing for small businesses and proprietorships in Gerugambakkam?
Yes. A large share of our clients in Gerugambakkam are proprietors, small traders, shop owners, freelancers and family businesses rather than large companies. The fee of Rs.749/month and the process are the same regardless of size, and we explain the compliance position in plain language — in Tamil or English — so you understand what is being filed on your behalf and why.
How is interest calculated if I pay GST late?
Interest is charged at 18 percent per annum under Section 50 of the CGST Act, calculated day-wise from the due date until the date of payment. Following the amendment to Section 50, interest on delayed GSTR-3B filing applies only on the portion of tax paid through the electronic cash ledger, not on the amount settled using input tax credit. For example, a cash liability of Rs.1,00,000 paid 30 days late attracts roughly Rs.1,479 as interest. We compute this precisely before filing so clients in Gerugambakkam never overpay or underpay.
How does a GTA opt for forward charge, and by when must it be done?
The option is exercised by filing the Annexure V declaration on the GST portal. For an existing GTA, the window for a financial year runs from 1 January to 31 March of the preceding financial year, so the choice for the coming year must be locked in by 31 March. A newly registered GTA must file the declaration within forty-five days of applying for registration or one month from the date of obtaining registration, whichever is later. Once exercised, the option continues for future years automatically unless the GTA files Annexure VI to revert to reverse charge. Missing the window means remaining under the default reverse charge mechanism for the whole year.
I made a mistake in GSTR-3B. Can I revise it?
No, GSTR-3B cannot be revised once filed. The GST law allows corrections only through adjustments in the returns of subsequent tax periods. If you under-reported tax, pay the difference with 18 percent interest in the next GSTR-3B or through Form DRC-03. If you over-reported, adjust it in a later month within the time limits allowed. Errors in GSTR-1 can be amended in the following period's return. Because corrections have deadlines, it is best to have the error reviewed quickly; our team in Gerugambakkam can assess it the same day.
How are B2B and B2C invoices reported differently in GST returns?
B2B invoices, meaning supplies to registered buyers, are reported invoice by invoice in Table 4 of GSTR-1 with the buyer's GSTIN, so each one flows into that buyer's GSTR-2B for credit. B2C supplies are split into two streams: large inter-state invoices above the threshold are reported invoice-wise in Table 5, while all remaining B2C sales are reported as consolidated, rate-wise totals per state in Table 7. This is why capturing the buyer's GSTIN correctly at billing matters so much; an invoice keyed as B2C by a cashier gives the registered buyer no credit and triggers correction requests later.
What is the difference between GSTR-1 and GSTR-3B?
GSTR-1 is a detailed invoice-wise statement of your sales, filed by the 11th of the next month. It does not involve any tax payment but it feeds your customers' GSTR-2B for input tax credit. GSTR-3B is a self-declared summary return, due on the 20th, where you report total sales, claim input tax credit and pay the net tax in cash or through credit. Both must match; mismatches between GSTR-1 and GSTR-3B are a common trigger for notices from the department, which is why we reconcile them before every filing.
Is there a late fee for filing GSTR-1 after the 11th?
Yes. Late fee for GSTR-1 is Rs.50 per day of delay, and Rs.20 per day where there are no outward supplies, subject to caps linked to your turnover. Although the portal historically collected GSTR-1 late fees through the next GSTR-3B, the liability arises the moment the due date passes. Delayed GSTR-1 also hurts your customers, because your invoices miss their GSTR-2B and their input tax credit gets deferred, which can strain business relationships. Filing by the 11th every month avoids both the cost and the friction.
My supplier filed GSTR-1 but never filed GSTR-3B. Does that affect my credit?
Yes, through Rule 37A. If your supplier reports the invoice in GSTR-1, the credit flows into your GSTR-2B and you may claim it, but if that supplier has not filed the GSTR-3B for the same period by 30 September following the end of the financial year, you must reverse the credit in a return filed on or before 30 November. Reversal done within this window carries no interest; delay beyond it attracts interest at 18 percent. The credit can be re-availed once the supplier eventually files GSTR-3B. A supplier filing-status check is therefore now part of any serious reconciliation for businesses in Gerugambakkam.
My business had zero sales this month. Do I still need to file GST returns?
Yes. Every registered taxpayer must file returns for every tax period, even when there are no sales, no purchases and no tax liability. In that case you file nil GSTR-1 and nil GSTR-3B. Failure to file nil returns attracts a late fee of Rs.20 per day per return, capped at Rs.500 per return, and breaks the sequential filing chain. Prolonged non-filing can lead to suspension and eventually cancellation of your GSTIN. Our nil return plan for dormant businesses in Gerugambakkam starts at just Rs.749 per month.
What is the last date to file GSTR-9 for a financial year?
GSTR-9 for a financial year is due by 31 December of the following financial year. For example, the annual return for FY 2024-25 is due by 31 December 2025, unless the government extends the date by notification. The reconciliation statement GSTR-9C, where applicable, has the same due date and is filed after GSTR-9. Since annual return preparation involves reconciling twelve months of returns with books, we recommend starting by October rather than December. Businesses in Gerugambakkam can call +91 - 9600 606 444 to book an early slot with our annual returns team.
I buy electronics stock from distributors in other states. How does the IGST on purchases work for me?
Inter-state purchases carry IGST, which flows into your GSTR-2B once the distributor files GSTR-1, and it is fully available as input tax credit. When you sell locally in Tamil Nadu you charge CGST and SGST, and the law lets you use IGST credit against both, with the portal applying the set-off order automatically. There is no cost disadvantage in buying from out-of-state distributors, provided they are compliant filers; a distributor who files late delays your credit by a month. Track supplier filing discipline as part of vendor selection. Retailers in Gerugambakkam can call +91 - 9600 606 444 for a supplier compliance scorecard.
Our head office in Gerugambakkam supports branches in other states. Is a cross-charge invoice really required?
Yes. Branches with separate GSTINs are distinct persons, and Schedule I treats supplies between them as taxable even without consideration. Services your head office renders to branches, such as accounting, IT support or management oversight, should be cross-charged through a tax invoice with IGST, which the branch claims as credit. On valuation, Rule 28 helps: where the recipient branch is entitled to full ITC, the value declared on the invoice is deemed to be the open market value, and Circular 199/11/2023 clarifies that internally generated services need not include the salary cost of head office employees. A documented cross-charge policy keeps audits short; call +91 - 9600 606 444 to set one up.
We sponsored a trade event. Does reverse charge apply to the sponsorship amount?
If your business is a body corporate or partnership firm, sponsorship services received are notified under Section 9(3) and you must pay 18 percent GST under reverse charge, with ITC available since sponsorship is a marketing expense. One recent change matters: with effect from 16 January 2025, sponsorship services provided by a body corporate were moved to forward charge, so if the event organiser billing you is a company, it now charges GST on its invoice and RCM does not apply. Where the provider is a proprietor, trust or society, RCM continues. Verify the organiser's constitution before booking the entry, and raise a self-invoice where the provider is unregistered.
How is the place of supply decided when I sell goods?
Section 10 of the IGST Act gives the tests. Where the sale involves movement of goods, the place of supply is the location where the movement terminates for delivery to the recipient, whoever arranges the transport. Where there is no movement, it is the location of the goods at the time of delivery, which covers over-the-counter sales and sales of installed machinery in place. Where goods are assembled or installed at site, the place of supply is the site of installation. Getting this right decides whether you charge CGST plus SGST or IGST, and a Gerugambakkam seller delivering to a Bengaluru buyer charges IGST because delivery terminates in Karnataka.
Our security agency does not charge GST on its bills. Is that correct?
Quite possibly, yes. Since 1 January 2019, security services meaning supply of security personnel, when provided by any person other than a body corporate to a registered person, fall under reverse charge, so the agency correctly bills without tax and you pay 18 percent through GSTR-3B in cash, claiming ITC. If your security agency is a private limited company, however, RCM does not apply and it must charge GST on its invoice under forward charge. Composition taxpayers as recipients are excluded from this entry. Confirm the agency's constitution from its PAN, because paying under the wrong mechanism creates trouble for both sides.
How do I file Form PMT-09 to move money between heads in my cash ledger?
Log in and open Services, then Ledgers, then Electronic Cash Ledger, and select File GST PMT-09 for transfer of amount. The screen shows your balance under each major and minor head. Choose the transfer-from head and amount, choose the transfer-to head, add the details to the table, preview and file with DSC or EVC. The transfer reflects in the ledger immediately and an ARN is generated for your records. There is no limit on how often PMT-09 can be filed, and no government fee applies, so it is always the first fix for a wrong-head deposit.
Which daily-use grocery items became cheaper under GST from September 2025?
The 56th GST Council's rationalisation, effective 22 September 2025, moved a large basket of daily essentials from 12% or 18% down to 5%, including butter, ghee, cheese, namkeens, sauces, pasta, chocolates, biscuits, cornflakes, hair oil, shampoo, soaps and toothpaste. UHT milk, pre-packaged paneer and all Indian breads such as roti, chapati and paratha became nil rated. Aerated and caffeinated beverages, by contrast, went to the 40% demerit rate. Grocery and supermarket billing masters needed a near-complete refresh from that date, and old stock is simply sold at the new rate applicable on the date of supply.
