Trade Profile and GST Jurisdiction for John Vasu Street Extension, Kodungaiyur

Kodungaiyur spreads north from Erukkancheri High Road across the MMDA blocks, Muthamizh Nagar, Ezhil Nagar and Kaviarasu Kannadasan Nagar, with plastic and paper recycling units clustered around the Kodungaiyur dumping ground, small engineering workshops, hardware dealers and provision stores along Kodungaiyur Main Road and the Milk Colony approach. Scrap bought from unregistered vendors, reverse charge liability and e-way bills on waste consignments trigger most notices. GST compliance in a market like Kodungaiyur rewards consistency — returns that match, credits that reconcile, and records that stand up to scrutiny. Our team provides GSTR-1 & GSTR-3B Monthly Filing to businesses throughout Kodungaiyur and nearby Erukkanchery and Moolakadai on fixed, transparent fees. From the first document checklist to the final acknowledgement on WhatsApp, the process is structured so nothing depends on memory, luck or a due-date-evening scramble.

GST jurisdiction for Kodungaiyur (PIN 600118): businesses here generally fall under the CGST Chennai North Commissionerate. We regularly represent clients from Kodungaiyur before this jurisdiction for registrations, clarifications and notice hearings, and can confirm your exact division and range from your GSTIN. State-jurisdiction cases are handled with the Tamil Nadu Commercial Taxes Department.
GST for Manufacturers in Kodungaiyur
Manufacturing compliance revolves around movement documents. Inputs sent to job workers must travel on Rule 45 delivery challans and return within one year, or three years for capital goods, failing which the original dispatch is treated as a supply with tax and interest. These movements are reported in Form ITC-04, half-yearly for turnover above Rs.5 crore and annually below it. Credit on machinery follows the capital goods rules, waste and scrap sales are fully taxable, and production-to-turnover ratios are a favourite audit test. A specialist keeps the challan register, ITC-04 filings and scrap invoicing aligned so a factory audit finds a closed loop, not loose ends.
The simplest way to complete GSTR-1 & GSTR-3B Monthly Filing in Kodungaiyur is through a local GST practice: one call starts the process, documents move over WhatsApp, and fees begin at Rs.749.
Why Us

Why John Vasu Street Extension, Kodungaiyur Businesses Choose ChennaiGST

Not a bulk-filing portal. A senior consultant knows your file, your jurisdiction and your deadlines.

Advisory, Not Just Data Entry

We tell you when the composition scheme stops making sense, when QRMP suits your cash flow, and when a supplier's non-compliance is quietly costing you credit. Filing is the minimum; helping you make better GST decisions is the actual job.

Ledger Housekeeping on the Portal

Your cash ledger, credit ledger and liability register are reviewed regularly, not just at filing time. Excess balances are flagged for use or refund, and where a genuine slip surfaces, a voluntary payment through DRC-03 settles it before it can mature into a notice.

One Dedicated Point of Contact

You deal with one accountable person who knows your business, your turnover pattern and your filing history. No repeating your story to a new voice every month, and no file falling between two desks when a deadline is approaching.

Correct HSN Codes and Rates, Verified

GSTR-1 requires four-digit HSN reporting for turnover up to Rs.5 crore and six digits above it, and a wrong code often means a wrong rate. We verify the classification of what you actually supply, so your invoices and returns rest on defensible codes.

Every Return Reviewed by a Senior Consultant

No filing leaves our desk on a junior's judgement alone. A senior GST practitioner reviews your figures, ITC claims and tax computation before submission, so errors are caught at our table and not by the department months later through a notice.

Complete Documentation, Properly Archived

Every acknowledgement, challan, computation sheet and filed return is saved and shared with you in an organised folder. When a bank, buyer or GST officer asks for a document from two years ago, it reaches you the same day without any scrambling.

How It Works

Our Monthly Returns Process

Monthly data collection

At month end we remind you and collect sales invoices, purchase bills and credit notes in whatever format you maintain, including Excel, Tally exports or scanned copies.

GSTR-1 preparation and filing

We prepare invoice-wise outward supply details, validate GSTINs of your B2B customers, summarise B2C supplies and file GSTR-1 on the portal before the 11th.

ITC reconciliation with GSTR-2B

We download your auto-drafted GSTR-2B, match it against purchase records, and claim only eligible input tax credit so that mismatches do not trigger scrutiny notices later.

Tax computation and confirmation

We compute net tax payable after ITC set-off, share the working with you for approval, and generate the payment challan for any cash liability.

GSTR-3B filing and reporting

After your confirmation and tax payment, we file GSTR-3B before the 20th and send you both filed acknowledgements along with a one-page summary of the month.

Outcomes

What You Get

Practical outcomes our clients measure us by.

TDS and TCS Credits Converted to Cash

Amounts deducted by government buyers as GST TDS and by marketplaces as TCS are accepted on the portal each period, so money withheld against your GSTIN actually reaches your cash ledger instead of lying unclaimed.

Audit-Ready Records at All Times

Filed returns, challans, reconciliations and working papers are archived in order from day one. If an audit or departmental verification comes, your file is ready the same week, not assembled in a panic.

A Professional Face on Every Invoice

Correct, complete tax invoices signal a well-run business to customers, vendors and banks alike, quietly strengthening your credibility in every transaction where your paperwork is seen.

Faster GST Refunds

Complete RFD-01 applications with proper statements and annexures move through the system faster and attract fewer deficiency memos, which means export and inverted-duty refunds reach your bank account sooner.

The Lowest Tax Position the Law Allows

Your scheme choice — regular, composition or QRMP — is re-examined as turnover and margins change, so you are always paying under the structure that legitimately costs your business the least.

A Clean GSTIN That Stays Active

Continuous filing protects you from the suspension and cancellation proceedings that hit chronic non-filers, so your registration, e-way bill access and ability to issue tax invoices are never suddenly cut off.

Why a Specialist Matters

With ChennaiGST vs Doing It Yourself

AspectWith ChennaiGSTDIY / Unattended
Late fees and interestFilings go in ahead of statutory dates, so the Rs.50-per-day late fee and 18 percent interest never arise.Late fees accumulate silently every delayed day, and interest on unpaid tax runs at 18 percent per annum.
Risk of noticesGSTR-1, GSTR-3B and GSTR-2B reconciled before filing, removing the mismatches that trigger most scrutiny notices.Inconsistent figures across returns quietly build a mismatch history that surfaces later as ASMT-10 scrutiny or a demand notice.
Annual return preparationMonthly reconciliations roll naturally into GSTR-9, filed comfortably before 31 December with figures already agreed through the year.Twelve months of unmatched data reconstructed in December, with differences discovered too late to be corrected cleanly.
Due-date trackingA maintained compliance calendar with internal cut-offs days before the 11th and the 20th; we chase you for data, not the other way around.Deadlines remembered from memory or phone alarms; one busy week and the return slips past the due date.
Record keepingEvery return, challan, acknowledgement and working paper archived in an organised folder, retrievable in minutes years later.Documents scattered across email, downloads and old phones; assembling records for a bank or an audit takes days.
When a notice arrivesA professional drafts the reply in the department's format and files it within the statutory window, such as thirty days for ASMT-11.You face departmental language alone, and a missed reply deadline can convert a simple query into a demand with penalty.

AAR Ruling

Agricultural seedling trays are plastic articles taxable at 18 percent

Saro Enterprises - AAR Tamil Nadu (2018), upheld by AAAR Tamil Nadu, order dated 6 February 2019 · 2018

The applicant made polypropylene and recycled plastic trays used by farmers to raise paddy and vegetable seedlings, and argued that they were agricultural implements. The Authority held that the trays are other articles of plastic under heading 3926 90 99 and are taxable at 9 percent central tax and 9 percent State tax. Use in agriculture does not by itself bring a product within the exempt agricultural implements entry, and the material and the tariff description prevail over the end use.

How we apply it: Chennai suppliers to the farm sector cannot assume exemption merely because the buyer uses the product in agriculture.

Notification

Late fee on GSTR-3B waived for the February to April 2020 returns

Notification No. 32/2020-Central Tax · 2020-04-03

The late fee payable under Section 47 for GSTR-3B was waived entirely for the tax periods February, March and April 2020, subject to the return being furnished within the extended dates set out for each turnover slab. Large taxpayers had to file by 24 June 2020, while smaller taxpayers had staggered dates running into June and July 2020. If the return was filed after the specified date the waiver fell away and the ordinary late fee revived from the original due date.

What to do about it: Check the actual filing date before paying any late fee demand for February to April 2020, because a timely filed return under this notification carries no fee at all.

Portal Advisory

Credit taken in excess of GSTR-2B triggers an automatic intimation

GSTN Advisory dated 14 November 2023 — Form GST DRC-01C under Rule 88D of the CGST Rules · 2023-11-14

Where the input tax credit availed in GSTR-3B exceeds the credit available in GSTR-2B by more than the prescribed limit, the portal issues an intimation in Form GST DRC-01C. The taxpayer must reverse the excess with interest through DRC-03 or file a reply in Part B giving reasons, within seven days. If neither is done, the filing of the next GSTR-1 or Invoice Furnishing Facility statement is blocked.

What it means for you: Match your credit register against GSTR-2B before filing GSTR-3B, since an unexplained excess now stops your outward return.

FAQs

Frequently Asked Questions

Straight answers from practising GST consultants — based on the CGST Act, current CBIC notifications and day-to-day portal experience.

Which GST office handles Kodungaiyur businesses?
Businesses in Kodungaiyur (PIN 600118) generally fall under the CGST Chennai North Commissionerate, with state-jurisdiction cases handled by the Tamil Nadu Commercial Taxes Department. Your exact division and range can be confirmed from your GSTIN on the GST portal. We regularly appear before this jurisdiction for registrations, clarifications and hearings, so we know the local practice and documentation preferences.
Can I get GSTR-1 & GSTR-3B monthly filing done online without visiting the office?
Yes, the entire process can be handled online. You share scanned documents on WhatsApp or email, we prepare and file everything on the GST portal, and you receive the acknowledgement and filed copies digitally. Businesses in Kodungaiyur regularly complete monthly returns with us without a single office visit. If a physical verification or personal hearing is required by the department, we guide you through it.
What is a debit note under GST and when do I issue one?
You issue a debit note when the taxable value or tax charged in the original invoice was less than what is actually payable, for example a price escalation clause kicking in or a rate charged short. Declaring the debit note in GSTR-1 increases your output liability, payable with interest where the shortfall relates to an earlier period. There is no outer time limit on issuing a debit note itself. For your buyer, the debit note is a credit document: following the amendment to Section 16(4), the buyer's time limit to claim ITC runs from the date of the debit note, not the original invoice.
Swiggy and Zomato pay the GST on my restaurant orders. How do I show these sales in my returns?
Since 1 January 2022, tax on restaurant services supplied through e-commerce operators is payable by the operator under Section 9(5), so you do not charge GST on app orders and no TCS is collected on them either. You must still report these supplies: show them in GSTR-3B Table 3.1.1(ii) as supplies on which the operator pays tax, and disclose them in GSTR-1, without paying tax on them again. Direct dine-in and takeaway billing remains taxable in your hands at 5%. Mixing up these tables is a common error we correct for restaurants in Kodungaiyur; call +91 - 9600 606 444 for help.
My workshop bills customers for spare parts and labour together. How should GST be charged?
The accepted practice, supported by CBIC's clarification on servicing, is that where the invoice separately shows the value of parts and the value of labour, each takes its own treatment: parts as a supply of goods and repair labour as a service at 18%. Since auto components also moved to 18% from September 2025, both lines of a typical job card now carry the same rate, which removes the old temptation to shift value between parts and labour. Still keep the split, because HSN and SAC reporting in GSTR-1 differ for goods and services. Workshops can call +91 - 9600 606 444 for invoice-format templates.
What is the due date for GSTR-3B in Tamil Nadu?
For monthly filers, GSTR-3B is due on the 20th of the following month. If you are registered in Tamil Nadu and have opted for the QRMP scheme, your quarterly GSTR-3B is due on the 22nd of the month following the quarter. GSTR-3B is the summary return through which you actually pay tax, so missing it attracts a late fee of Rs.50 per day (Rs.20 for nil returns) plus interest at 18 percent per annum on tax paid late.
Can I issue a single credit note against several invoices?
Yes. Since the amendment to Section 34 by the CGST (Amendment) Act, 2018, effective 1 February 2019, the law permits one or more credit notes to be issued against one or more tax invoices of a financial year. A distributor giving a season-end adjustment to a retailer can therefore issue one consolidated credit note covering dozens of invoices, rather than one note per bill. When reporting it in GSTR-1, the portal accepts credit notes without invoice-wise linking for this reason. Maintain a working annexed to the credit note listing the invoices covered, because in scrutiny the officer will ask you to establish the linkage and the arithmetic.
We hire security guards from an agency. Should they charge GST or should we pay it ourselves?
Check the agency's constitution. Since 1 January 2019, security services by way of supply of security personnel provided by any person other than a body corporate to a registered person fall under reverse charge, so your business pays the 18 percent directly and claims credit. If the agency is a body corporate, such as a private limited company, it charges GST under forward charge on its invoice. Recipients registered under the composition scheme are excluded from this reverse charge entry. Businesses in Kodungaiyur commonly pay agencies' forward-charge invoices while also missing their own RCM cases, so an annual review of security and manpower bills is worthwhile.
What is IFF in the QRMP scheme?
The Invoice Furnishing Facility (IFF) is an optional facility for QRMP taxpayers to upload B2B invoices for the first two months of a quarter, by the 13th of the following month, up to Rs.50 lakh of invoice value per month. Invoices uploaded through IFF appear in your buyers' GSTR-2B immediately, so they can claim input tax credit without waiting for your quarterly GSTR-1. If your customers are registered businesses that press for timely credit, using IFF keeps them happy. We file IFF for QRMP clients in Kodungaiyur as part of the standard package.
Should I choose QRMP or continue monthly filing?
It depends on your customer profile. QRMP means fewer returns and suits businesses selling mainly to consumers or unregistered buyers. However, if most customers are registered businesses, monthly GSTR-1 (or disciplined use of IFF) gets them input tax credit faster, which many corporate buyers insist on. Cash flow also matters: under QRMP you still pay monthly via PMT-06, so there is no tax deferral, only compliance simplification. We review turnover, buyer mix and working capital before recommending either route to businesses in Kodungaiyur. A short call on +91 - 9600 606 444 is enough to decide.
How do I claim credit of the IGST paid on imported goods?
IGST paid at customs on imported goods is fully creditable, with the bill of entry serving as the prescribed duty-paying document instead of a tax invoice. The data flows from ICEGATE into your GSTR-2B, and the claim is made in Table 4(A)(1) of GSTR-3B. If a bill of entry does not appear, use the search BoE facility on the GST portal to fetch the record before assuming it is missing. Remember that basic customs duty and the social welfare surcharge are never creditable; only the IGST and compensation cess components are. Importers in Kodungaiyur should reconcile their ICEGATE ledger with GSTR-2B quarterly, because clearance-date mismatches are frequent.
Why are so many businesses suddenly receiving GST notices these days?
Enforcement has shifted from manual selection to data analytics. The portal now automatically compares GSTR-1 with GSTR-3B and flags tax shortfalls through DRC-01B intimations under Rule 88C, and compares GSTR-2B with GSTR-3B to flag excess ITC through DRC-01C under Rule 88D. E-way bill, e-invoice, TDS and income tax data are also cross-matched, and limitation deadlines for older financial years have pushed departments to clear pending demands in batches. The practical lesson for Kodungaiyur businesses is that mismatches no longer go unnoticed, so month-wise reconciliation before filing is now essential hygiene rather than a year-end exercise.
Does buying from unregistered dealers attract reverse charge for everyone?
No. The general reverse charge on all unregistered purchases under Section 9(4) was never fully implemented and now applies only to notified classes, principally real estate. A promoter must procure at least eighty percent of inputs and input services from registered suppliers for a project; on any shortfall, the promoter pays 18 percent under RCM, and cement purchased from an unregistered dealer attracts RCM at the rate applicable to cement, 18 percent since the September 2025 rate rationalisation reduced it from 28 percent, irrespective of the eighty percent test. Transfer of development rights and long-term leases to promoters are also covered. An ordinary trader or service provider in Kodungaiyur buying stationery from an unregistered shop has no Section 9(4) liability at all.
How is GST charged on hotel room tariffs after the rate changes?
Hotel accommodation with a value of supply up to Rs.7,500 per unit per day attracts 5 percent GST without input tax credit, a reduction from the earlier 12 percent. Rooms priced above Rs.7,500 per day attract 18 percent with full input tax credit. The rate is determined by the actual transaction value charged for the room, so seasonal discounts can change the applicable rate on the same room across bookings. Lodges and hotels around Kodungaiyur should configure billing software to test the per-day value on each invoice rather than fixing one rate for the property.
I declare income under Section 44ADA. Does that mean I am exempt from GST?
No, this is a common myth. Section 44ADA is a presumptive taxation scheme under the Income Tax Act that lets professionals declare fifty percent of gross receipts as income; it has nothing to do with GST. GST liability depends solely on aggregate turnover crossing the registration threshold and the nature of your supplies. In fact, the two departments now cross-match data, so gross receipts reported in your ITR and Form 26AS that exceed the GST turnover you declared are a known trigger for notices. Treat the two laws as parallel obligations, each with its own limits and filings.
I returned an advance because the deal was cancelled. What document do I issue?
It depends on how far the paperwork went. If you had issued only a receipt voucher and no tax invoice, you issue a refund voucher under Rule 51 when returning the advance, and the tax paid on that advance can be adjusted. If a tax invoice had already been issued, the cancellation is handled through a credit note under Section 34 instead. The refund voucher records the original receipt voucher reference, the amount refunded and the tax involved. Event managers and contractors see cancellations regularly, and using the wrong document between these two is a common reconciliation error.
Which purchases commonly attract GST under reverse charge for a regular business?
Under Section 9(3), the recipient pays tax on notified supplies. The entries a typical business in Kodungaiyur encounters are: goods transport agency services, services of advocates and arbitral tribunals, sponsorship provided to companies and partnership firms, services of directors, security services from non-corporate providers, renting of passenger motor vehicles from non-corporate operators charging five percent, import of services, and renting of property from unregistered landlords in notified cases. Each month, scan your expense ledger for these heads, pay the tax in cash through GSTR-3B, and claim it back as ITC where eligible. Missed RCM is among the top audit findings; call +91 - 9600 606 444 for an RCM exposure review.
Are any goods exempt from GST when transported by a GTA?
Yes. Transport by a GTA of agricultural produce, milk, salt and foodgrains including flours and pulses, organic manure, newspapers and magazines registered with the Registrar of Newspapers, relief materials for victims of calamities, and defence or military equipment is exempt regardless of freight value. Note that the older exemptions for small consignments, Rs.1,500 for a full truckload and Rs.750 for a single consignee, were withdrawn with effect from 18 July 2022, so ordinary cargo enjoys no value-based relief now. Transporters serving agricultural markets should describe the produce accurately on the consignment note to support the exemption.

We start the same day we receive your papers and tell you the realistic completion date upfront rather than an optimistic one.
