Trade Profile and GST Jurisdiction for Malishwari Nagar 9th Street, Madambakkam

Madambakkam, built around the Chola-era Dhenupureeswarar Temple and Madambakkam Lake, has turned from farmland into a plotted-layout suburb threaded by Madambakkam High Road and the Santhosapuram - Vengaivasal - Mambakkam Road. Works contractors, borewell operators, building material suppliers and layout promoters dominate. Works contract classification, the twelve versus eighteen per cent dispute and Section 17(5) credit blocks are the recurring GST battles here. From a first registration to the annual return, the full range of GSTR-1 & GSTR-3B Monthly Filing is available to Madambakkam businesses without stepping far from the shop or office — documents travel over WhatsApp, and our Chennai premises are open to anyone who prefers a face-to-face discussion. We serve Rajakilpakkam and Selaiyur on the same footing, applying one rule everywhere: reconcile before filing, file before the due date, and keep the client informed at every stage.

GST jurisdiction for Madambakkam (PIN 600126): businesses here generally fall under the CGST Chennai Outer Commissionerate. We regularly represent clients from Madambakkam before this jurisdiction for registrations, clarifications and notice hearings, and can confirm your exact division and range from your GSTIN. State-jurisdiction cases are handled with the Tamil Nadu Commercial Taxes Department.
GST for Builders and Contractors in Madambakkam
Under-construction residential sales are taxed at 1 percent for affordable housing and 5 percent for other units, both without input credit, while commercial works contracts run at 18 percent with credit. Builders must procure at least 80 percent of inputs and input services from registered suppliers each year; any shortfall attracts tax under reverse charge, and cement bought from unregistered dealers is taxed under reverse charge at its full rate regardless of the shortfall test. Development rights and joint development agreements carry their own liability trigger points. A specialist runs the 80-20 computation annually and tracks reverse charge on cement and landowner area sharing so project costing stays accurate.
GSTR-1 & GSTR-3B Monthly Filing in Madambakkam is priced from Rs.749 and includes document verification, reconciliation with portal data, senior review, filing and a complete acknowledgement set archived for your records.
Why Us

Why Malishwari Nagar 9th Street, Madambakkam Businesses Choose ChennaiGST

Not a bulk-filing portal. A senior consultant knows your file, your jurisdiction and your deadlines.

Ledger Housekeeping on the Portal

Your cash ledger, credit ledger and liability register are reviewed regularly, not just at filing time. Excess balances are flagged for use or refund, and where a genuine slip surfaces, a voluntary payment through DRC-03 settles it before it can mature into a notice.

Multi-GSTIN and Branch Coordination

Businesses with registrations in more than one State, or multiple branches under one PAN, face cross-charge, stock transfer and input service distribution questions that single-GSTIN firms never see. We keep all your registrations consistent with each other, not just compliant individually.

Experience Across Trades and Sectors

Traders, manufacturers, contractors, e-commerce sellers, professionals and service exporters — we have handled GST for all of them. Whatever mix of goods and services your Madambakkam business supplies, the rate, classification and place-of-supply questions have almost certainly crossed our desk before.

Notice Support Does Not Stop at Filing

If a query, ASMT-10 scrutiny notice or DRC-01 arrives on a return we filed, we stand behind our work and help you draft the reply. You are not left alone with a departmental letter and a thirty-day clock ticking against you.

GSTR-9 and GSTR-9C Handled In-House

The annual return and, where turnover crosses Rs.5 crore, the self-certified reconciliation statement in GSTR-9C are prepared by the same team that filed your monthly returns. Nothing about your year has to be rediscovered or explained to a stranger in December.

Every Return Reviewed by a Senior Consultant

No filing leaves our desk on a junior's judgement alone. A senior GST practitioner reviews your figures, ITC claims and tax computation before submission, so errors are caught at our table and not by the department months later through a notice.

How It Works

Our Monthly Returns Process

Monthly data collection

At month end we remind you and collect sales invoices, purchase bills and credit notes in whatever format you maintain, including Excel, Tally exports or scanned copies.

GSTR-1 preparation and filing

We prepare invoice-wise outward supply details, validate GSTINs of your B2B customers, summarise B2C supplies and file GSTR-1 on the portal before the 11th.

ITC reconciliation with GSTR-2B

We download your auto-drafted GSTR-2B, match it against purchase records, and claim only eligible input tax credit so that mismatches do not trigger scrutiny notices later.

Tax computation and confirmation

We compute net tax payable after ITC set-off, share the working with you for approval, and generate the payment challan for any cash liability.

GSTR-3B filing and reporting

After your confirmation and tax payment, we file GSTR-3B before the 20th and send you both filed acknowledgements along with a one-page summary of the month.

Outcomes

What You Get

Practical outcomes our clients measure us by.

A Clean GSTIN That Stays Active

Continuous filing protects you from the suspension and cancellation proceedings that hit chronic non-filers, so your registration, e-way bill access and ability to issue tax invoices are never suddenly cut off.

TDS and TCS Credits Converted to Cash

Amounts deducted by government buyers as GST TDS and by marketplaces as TCS are accepted on the portal each period, so money withheld against your GSTIN actually reaches your cash ledger instead of lying unclaimed.

Lower Total Cost of Compliance

A fixed professional fee is almost always cheaper than the combination of late fees, interest, lost credit and staff hours that informal, last-minute compliance quietly accumulates over a year.

Waiver Benefits Never Missed

Late-fee waivers and amnesty windows notified by the GST Council are applied to your history within their deadlines, capturing reliefs that most businesses only hear about once the window has already closed.

Peace of Mind Around Due Dates

The 11th and the 20th stop being days of dread. You approve a prepared draft, we file, and the acknowledgement lands on your WhatsApp — month after month, without drama.

Stronger Standing with Corporate Buyers

Large buyers check vendor GST compliance before releasing payments and renewing contracts. A clean filing record with timely GSTR-1 uploads keeps your invoices reflecting in their GSTR-2B and your payments unblocked.

Why a Specialist Matters

With ChennaiGST vs Doing It Yourself

AspectWith ChennaiGSTDIY / Unattended
Record keepingEvery return, challan, acknowledgement and working paper archived in an organised folder, retrievable in minutes years later.Documents scattered across email, downloads and old phones; assembling records for a bank or an audit takes days.
Due-date trackingA maintained compliance calendar with internal cut-offs days before the 11th and the 20th; we chase you for data, not the other way around.Deadlines remembered from memory or phone alarms; one busy week and the return slips past the due date.
Portal credentials and dataLogins handled by a small engaged team under strict confidentiality, with credentials stored securely and never passed onward.Passwords circulating on chats with freelancers and part-timers, and no accountability for who has accessed your business data.
When a notice arrivesA professional drafts the reply in the department's format and files it within the statutory window, such as thirty days for ASMT-11.You face departmental language alone, and a missed reply deadline can convert a simple query into a demand with penalty.
Keeping up with changesRate changes, portal updates and new thresholds such as the Rs.5 crore e-invoice limit are tracked by us and applied to your case proactively.Changes are discovered after the fact — often through a rejected filing, a blocked e-way bill or a departmental letter.
Risk of noticesGSTR-1, GSTR-3B and GSTR-2B reconciled before filing, removing the mismatches that trigger most scrutiny notices.Inconsistent figures across returns quietly build a mismatch history that surfaces later as ASMT-10 scrutiny or a demand notice.

Case Law & Notifications

What the Department and the Courts Have Said — relevant to Madambakkam businesses

We track every notification, circular and judgment that changes a filing position, so your returns and replies reflect the current law.

Case Law

Interest cannot be recovered without adjudication where the liability is disputed

Mahadeo Construction Co. v. Union of India — Jharkhand High Court, W.P.(T) No. 3517 of 2019, judgment dated 21 April 2020, reported at [2020] 116 taxmann.com 262 (Jharkhand) · 2020-04-21

The department issued recovery notices for interest under Section 50 without any adjudication, treating the interest as automatically payable. The High Court held that although interest liability under Section 50 is automatic in principle, its computation and quantum are not. Where the taxpayer disputes the liability, the department must first initiate adjudication proceedings under Section 73 or 74 and pass an order before resorting to recovery under Section 79.

Why this matters: A bare recovery letter for interest, without a show cause notice and order, can be challenged if you genuinely dispute the amount.

AAR Ruling

No second levy of IGST when goods leave a Free Trade Warehousing Zone

The Bank of Nova Scotia - AAR Tamil Nadu, Order No. TN/23/AAR/2018, dated 31 December 2018 · 2018-12-31

The bank imported goods and stored them in a Free Trade Warehousing Zone before they were cleared. It asked whether integrated tax was payable again when the goods were removed from the zone to the domestic tariff area, over and above the tax collected at the time of customs clearance. The Authority, following Circular No. 3/1/2018-IGST dated 25 May 2018, held that the applicant is not liable to pay IGST at the time of removal, the levy arising once at clearance for home consumption.

Practical effect: Chennai importers using FTWZ facilities pay IGST once at clearance and should resist any demand for a second levy on removal.

GST Council

Council approves the CGST and IGST Bills

11th GST Council Meeting, New Delhi — 4 March 2017 (PIB Release ID 1483622) · 2017-03-04

The Council approved the draft CGST and IGST Bills as vetted by the Law Ministry, clearing them for introduction in Parliament. The approved design provided for State-wise single registration, a single State-wise return covering intra-State, inter-State and export supplies, registration exemption below Rs 20 lakh turnover (Rs 10 lakh in Special Category States), a composition scheme up to Rs 50 lakh, broad input tax credit entitlement, and cross-utilisation of credit between CGST, SGST, UTGST and IGST in a prescribed order.

What to do about it: The structural features a Chennai business deals with every day, from one GSTIN per State to the credit set-off order, were locked in at this meeting.

FAQs

Frequently Asked Questions

Straight answers from practising GST consultants — based on the CGST Act, current CBIC notifications and day-to-day portal experience.

Can I get GSTR-1 & GSTR-3B monthly filing done online without visiting the office?
Yes, the entire process can be handled online. You share scanned documents on WhatsApp or email, we prepare and file everything on the GST portal, and you receive the acknowledgement and filed copies digitally. Businesses in Madambakkam regularly complete monthly returns with us without a single office visit. If a physical verification or personal hearing is required by the department, we guide you through it.
Are there any hidden charges for GSTR-1 & GSTR-3B monthly filing?
No. The fee quoted before we start is the fee you pay. Government fees, portal charges or statutory late fees, where they apply, are separate and disclosed to you in advance with the exact amount. We issue a proper GST invoice for our professional fee. If the scope of work changes — for example, an unexpected notice or additional periods — we tell you the revised fee before doing anything further.
What is the difference between GSTR-1 and GSTR-3B?
GSTR-1 is a detailed invoice-wise statement of your sales, filed by the 11th of the next month. It does not involve any tax payment but it feeds your customers' GSTR-2B for input tax credit. GSTR-3B is a self-declared summary return, due on the 20th, where you report total sales, claim input tax credit and pay the net tax in cash or through credit. Both must match; mismatches between GSTR-1 and GSTR-3B are a common trigger for notices from the department, which is why we reconcile them before every filing.
I generate e-invoices. Do I still have to prepare GSTR-1 separately?
If your aggregate turnover exceeds Rs.5 crore, e-invoicing is mandatory and the invoice details reported to the Invoice Registration Portal auto-populate into your GSTR-1. However, auto-population is not a substitute for review. B2C sales, exports without IRN issues, credit notes, amendments and advances still need to be verified or added manually before submission. We review the auto-drafted GSTR-1 against your books each month so that what is filed matches your accounts exactly. If you have just crossed the Rs.5 crore threshold, call +91 - 9600 606 444 and we will set up e-invoicing correctly.
Our Madambakkam factory hires lorries through a transport agency. Who pays the GST?
Under the reverse charge entry, when a GTA that has not opted for forward charge provides service to specified recipients, the recipient pays the 5 percent tax. Specified recipients include factories, registered persons, body corporates, partnership firms including AOPs, co-operative societies and casual taxable persons. Your factory therefore pays 5 percent in cash through GSTR-3B, reports it in the reverse charge tables, and claims the same amount as input tax credit since freight is a business expense. Confirm from the transporter's invoice or declaration whether it has opted for forward charge, because paying RCM on an FCM invoice creates double taxation. Call +91 - 9600 606 444 if your freight entries need a review.
Do I have to pay GST on my Adobe, Canva or AWS subscriptions billed from abroad?
If you are GST-registered and the foreign supplier has not charged Indian GST, yes. Services received from a supplier located outside India for business purposes are an import of services, taxable in your hands under reverse charge at 18 percent. You must pay the tax in cash through GSTR-3B, raise a self-invoice, and can simultaneously claim the same amount as input tax credit if the expense is otherwise eligible, making it cash-flow neutral for most businesses. Unregistered persons do not pay reverse charge; instead, the foreign provider may charge GST under the OIDAR rules. Many Madambakkam agencies miss these entries during scrutiny.
How does a GTA opt for forward charge, and by when must it be done?
The option is exercised by filing the Annexure V declaration on the GST portal. For an existing GTA, the window for a financial year runs from 1 January to 31 March of the preceding financial year, so the choice for the coming year must be locked in by 31 March. A newly registered GTA must file the declaration within forty-five days of applying for registration or one month from the date of obtaining registration, whichever is later. Once exercised, the option continues for future years automatically unless the GTA files Annexure VI to revert to reverse charge. Missing the window means remaining under the default reverse charge mechanism for the whole year.
When can I issue a GST credit note against my sales invoice?
Section 34 permits a credit note where the taxable value or tax charged in the invoice exceeds what is actually payable, where the goods are returned by the recipient, or where the goods or services are found deficient. The credit note references the original invoice, and reporting it in your GSTR-1 reduces your output tax liability for that period. It is the correct tool for sales returns, rate errors and quality claims. What a credit note cannot do is cancel an e-invoice after the twenty-four hour IRP window or rewrite history for a different customer; it must trace to a genuine adjustment on an identified invoice.
I received an intimation in DRC-01C about ITC mismatch. How do I respond?
DRC-01C is issued under Rule 88D when the ITC claimed in your GSTR-3B exceeds the ITC available in GSTR-2B beyond the permitted limits. You must respond within seven days, either by paying the excess with interest through DRC-03 or by explaining the difference in Part B of DRC-01C, citing valid reasons such as credits of earlier periods claimed within time, reclaims after Rule 37 payment, or import ITC not flowing through 2B. Until you respond, the portal can block filing of your next GSTR-1. Do not ignore the seven-day window; call +91 - 9600 606 444 the day it arrives.
What is IFF in the QRMP scheme?
The Invoice Furnishing Facility (IFF) is an optional facility for QRMP taxpayers to upload B2B invoices for the first two months of a quarter, by the 13th of the following month, up to Rs.50 lakh of invoice value per month. Invoices uploaded through IFF appear in your buyers' GSTR-2B immediately, so they can claim input tax credit without waiting for your quarterly GSTR-1. If your customers are registered businesses that press for timely credit, using IFF keeps them happy. We file IFF for QRMP clients in Madambakkam as part of the standard package.
My buyer has not accepted my credit note. Does that affect my tax reduction?
Yes. Your output tax reduction on a credit note is conditional on the corresponding input tax credit being reversed by the recipient. On the portal, the Invoice Management System now presents your credit notes to the buyer for action, and a rejected credit note flows back into your liability computation. Practically, this means credit notes need commercial agreement before they are reported, not after. Keep an email trail with the buyer, confirm they will reverse the credit in their GSTR-3B, and reconcile IMS actions monthly. ChennaiGST tracks credit note acceptance for Madambakkam clients as part of the monthly filing cycle.
What GST rate applies to cars and two-wheelers now?
Small cars, meaning petrol cars up to 1200cc and diesel cars up to 1500cc with length not exceeding 4 metres, attract 18 percent GST, down sharply from the earlier 28 percent plus cess. Larger cars, SUVs above these specifications, attract the 40 percent rate, but with the compensation cess gone, the overall burden on most of them is still lower than before. Motorcycles up to 350cc are at 18 percent, while those above 350cc attract 40 percent. Electric vehicles continue at a concessional 5 percent. Dealers must also apply these rates to demo vehicle sales.
Why are so many businesses suddenly receiving GST notices these days?
Enforcement has shifted from manual selection to data analytics. The portal now automatically compares GSTR-1 with GSTR-3B and flags tax shortfalls through DRC-01B intimations under Rule 88C, and compares GSTR-2B with GSTR-3B to flag excess ITC through DRC-01C under Rule 88D. E-way bill, e-invoice, TDS and income tax data are also cross-matched, and limitation deadlines for older financial years have pushed departments to clear pending demands in batches. The practical lesson for Madambakkam businesses is that mismatches no longer go unnoticed, so month-wise reconciliation before filing is now essential hygiene rather than a year-end exercise.
How many digits of the HSN code must I print on my tax invoices?
Under Notification 78/2020 Central Tax, taxpayers with aggregate turnover up to Rs.5 crore in the preceding financial year must mention a 4-digit HSN code on all B2B tax invoices, though it is optional on B2C invoices. Taxpayers with turnover above Rs.5 crore must mention 6-digit HSN codes on every invoice, including B2C. Eight digits are required for specified goods such as certain chemicals and for export documentation. Services follow the same rule using SAC codes, which begin with 99. Printing truncated or wrong codes on invoices creates mismatches later, so set the codes correctly in your billing software once.
Why is my e-way bill generation blocked on the portal?
Under Rule 138E, the e-way bill facility is blocked when a taxpayer has not filed GSTR-3B (or CMP-08 for composition dealers) for two or more consecutive tax periods. Since an e-way bill is mandatory for moving goods worth more than Rs.50,000, blocking effectively halts dispatches. The remedy is straightforward: file the pending returns with late fee and interest, after which the facility unblocks automatically, usually the next day. Transporters and suppliers can also be affected when a counterparty GSTIN is blocked. We clear return backlogs for businesses in Madambakkam on priority; call +91 - 9600 606 444.
What documents must I prepare for reverse charge purchases from unregistered suppliers?
Two documents are required. First, a self-invoice: Section 31(3)(f) obliges you to issue an invoice on yourself for goods or services received from an unregistered supplier on which you pay tax under reverse charge, and under Rule 47A this self-invoice must be issued within thirty days of receiving the supply. Second, a payment voucher under Rule 52 at the time of making payment to the supplier. The self-invoice is the document on which you claim the input tax credit of the reverse charge tax paid. Freight from unregistered transporters and advocate fees are typical cases where businesses miss this paperwork.
We pay for foreign software subscriptions and overseas consultants. Is GST payable in India?
Yes. Import of services, meaning services from a supplier located outside India received by a person in India for business, attracts IGST under reverse charge in the recipient's hands, payable in cash and claimable as ITC if eligible. This catches cloud software, foreign professional fees, overseas advertising and licence fees. Two nuances matter: services from a related foreign party, such as your parent company, are taxable even without consideration under Schedule I, and OIDAR services supplied to unregistered consumers are taxed in the foreign supplier's own hands, not under RCM. Startups and IT firms in Madambakkam paying by card frequently miss these entries; reconcile foreign remittances against RCM paid annually.
Our head office in Madambakkam supports branches in other states. Is a cross-charge invoice really required?
Yes. Branches with separate GSTINs are distinct persons, and Schedule I treats supplies between them as taxable even without consideration. Services your head office renders to branches, such as accounting, IT support or management oversight, should be cross-charged through a tax invoice with IGST, which the branch claims as credit. On valuation, Rule 28 helps: where the recipient branch is entitled to full ITC, the value declared on the invoice is deemed to be the open market value, and Circular 199/11/2023 clarifies that internally generated services need not include the salary cost of head office employees. A documented cross-charge policy keeps audits short; call +91 - 9600 606 444 to set one up.
What documents are required for GSTR-1 & GSTR-3B monthly filing in Madambakkam?
For GSTR-1 & GSTR-3B monthly filing you will generally need: Sales invoices or sales register for the month, Purchase invoices or purchase register, Credit notes and debit notes issued during the month, GST portal login credentials, Bank statement for the period, if reconciliation is needed. The exact list depends on your constitution — proprietorship, partnership, LLP or company — and on the specifics of your case. Send what you have on WhatsApp to +91 - 9600 606 444 and we will confirm within the same working day exactly what else is needed, so nothing is rejected later for a missing paper.
What is the process for GSTR-1 & GSTR-3B monthly filing?
The process runs in clear stages: Monthly data collection; GSTR-1 preparation and filing; ITC reconciliation with GSTR-2B; Tax computation and confirmation. A senior consultant reviews your file at each stage rather than passing it to a data-entry desk, and you receive a confirmation with the filed documents once it is complete. You always know which stage your work is at — we update you on WhatsApp instead of leaving you to follow up.
How much does GSTR-1 & GSTR-3B monthly filing cost in Madambakkam?
Our fee for GSTR-1 & GSTR-3B monthly filing in Madambakkam starts at Rs.749/month and is quoted in full before we begin — there are no hidden charges added later. The fee covers professional work end to end: document review, preparation, filing and follow-up until completion. Government fees or portal charges, where applicable, are separate and always shown to you upfront. For an exact quote based on your turnover and business type, call +91 - 9600 606 444 and a consultant will confirm it on the call.
