Trade Profile and GST Jurisdiction for 1st Street, Moulivakkam

Moulivakkam spreads west from the Chennai Bypass along Kodambakkam-Sriperumbudur Road into the Maxworth Nagar, Madha Nagar, MRK Nagar and Janakiram Nagar layouts, where the river-named streets off Ponniamman Koil Salai were plotted out of farmland. Promoters, ready-mix and steel suppliers, borewell and electrical contractors, provision stores and hospital-facing pharmacies operate here. Affordable-housing rate disputes, works-contract billing, e-way bills on sand and steel movement and first-time registrations for new shops keep compliance busy. That commercial character shapes the GST questions we see from Moulivakkam every week — registrations, monthly returns, credit mismatches and departmental queries. We deliver GST Notice Reply for businesses in Moulivakkam, and clients also reach us from Mugalivakkam and Gerugambakkam nearby. Documents move over WhatsApp, drafts are approved before filing, and a senior consultant reviews every submission, so distance from our office never dilutes the quality of the work.

GST jurisdiction for Moulivakkam (PIN 600125): businesses here generally fall under the CGST Chennai Outer Commissionerate. We regularly represent clients from Moulivakkam before this jurisdiction for registrations, clarifications and notice hearings, and can confirm your exact division and range from your GSTIN. State-jurisdiction cases are handled with the Tamil Nadu Commercial Taxes Department.
GST for Professional Services Firms in Moulivakkam
Professional firms bill at 18 percent, but the mechanics differ by profession: services of advocates to business entities are taxed in the client's hands under reverse charge, while chartered accountants, company secretaries and architects charge tax on their own invoices. Fees received in advance are taxable on receipt, and retainers must be invoiced within the time limits of Section 31(2). Amounts recovered from clients as a pure agent, such as government fees paid on their behalf, stay outside taxable value only if every condition of Rule 33 is met and documented. A specialist sets up retainer invoicing, pure agent documentation and branch cross-charges correctly; call +91 - 9600 606 444 to discuss your firm.
Yes, GST Notice Reply in Moulivakkam can be completed fully online — no office visit is required at any stage, since e-signatures, OTP verification and digital document exchange cover the entire formality, with fees from Rs.2,999.
Why Us

Why 1st Street, Moulivakkam Businesses Choose ChennaiGST

Not a bulk-filing portal. A senior consultant knows your file, your jurisdiction and your deadlines.

QRMP Managed Properly, Not Just Opted Into

Quarterly filing still demands monthly attention — IFF uploads so your buyers see their credit on time, and tax payment through PMT-06 by the 25th for the first two months of each quarter. We run that monthly rhythm so QRMP saves you effort without creating gaps.

Deadline Tracking Done for You

GSTR-1 by the 11th, GSTR-3B by the 20th, CMP-08 by the 18th after each quarter — we maintain a compliance calendar for every client and start chasing your data well before the due date, so late fees never enter the picture.

Fast, Clean Registrations and Amendments

New GSTIN applications, core field amendments through REG-14, additional places of business — we prepare complete, query-resistant applications the first time. Clean paperwork is the difference between smooth approval and weeks lost answering clarification memos from the department.

Multi-GSTIN and Branch Coordination

Businesses with registrations in more than one State, or multiple branches under one PAN, face cross-charge, stock transfer and input service distribution questions that single-GSTIN firms never see. We keep all your registrations consistent with each other, not just compliant individually.

E-Commerce Seller Reconciliation, Including TCS

Sellers on Amazon, Flipkart and other marketplaces face a three-way match between marketplace reports, GSTR-1 and the TCS the operator deposits against your GSTIN. We reconcile all three every period and accept the TCS credit, so sellers in Moulivakkam never leave marketplace deductions unclaimed.

Composition Scheme Compliance Without Slips

Composition dealers have their own rulebook — CMP-08 every quarter, GSTR-4 annually by 30 June, bills of supply instead of tax invoices, and a turnover ceiling that must be watched. We handle each of these correctly so the scheme's simplicity never turns into a violation.

How It Works

Our Notice Reply Process

Notice study

We read the notice line by line, identify the section invoked, the periods covered, the exact information sought and the deadline for response.

Data reconciliation

The figures alleged in the notice are reconciled against your filed returns, GSTR-2B and books, so the reply is grounded in verifiable numbers rather than assertions.

Reply drafting

We draft a professional, point-wise reply addressing every allegation, attaching reconciliations, invoices and legal support, and share the draft with you for approval.

Filing and payment

The approved reply is filed on the portal within the deadline. Where a small genuine liability exists, we advise payment through DRC-03 to limit interest and penalty.

Closure tracking

We monitor the portal for the officer's response, attend to any further queries or hearing dates, and pursue the matter until a closure or order is received.

Outcomes

What You Get

Practical outcomes our clients measure us by.

Faster GST Refunds

Complete RFD-01 applications with proper statements and annexures move through the system faster and attract fewer deficiency memos, which means export and inverted-duty refunds reach your bank account sooner.

Peace of Mind Around Due Dates

The 11th and the 20th stop being days of dread. You approve a prepared draft, we file, and the acknowledgement lands on your WhatsApp — month after month, without drama.

Slips Settled Before They Become Notices

Where a genuine error is found in a past period, voluntary payment through DRC-03 before any notice issues closes the matter at minimal cost, instead of letting it ripen into a demand with penalty.

Tax Paid Under the Right Head

Getting IGST versus CGST and SGST right at the invoice stage spares you the painful cycle of paying the correct head again and pursuing a refund of the amount paid under the wrong one.

Credit Notes That Actually Reduce Your Tax

Sales returns, discounts and price revisions are adjusted through properly reported credit notes within the statutory window, so you never keep paying tax on turnover you have already reversed.

Lower Total Cost of Compliance

A fixed professional fee is almost always cheaper than the combination of late fees, interest, lost credit and staff hours that informal, last-minute compliance quietly accumulates over a year.

Why a Specialist Matters

With ChennaiGST vs Doing It Yourself

AspectWith ChennaiGSTDIY / Unattended
Supplier defaultsSuppliers who stop uploading invoices are identified within the period and pursued before their default becomes your blocked credit.Missing supplier invoices surface only when credit is denied, by which time recovering the amount from the vendor is difficult.
Keeping up with changesRate changes, portal updates and new thresholds such as the Rs.5 crore e-invoice limit are tracked by us and applied to your case proactively.Changes are discovered after the fact — often through a rejected filing, a blocked e-way bill or a departmental letter.
Portal credentials and dataLogins handled by a small engaged team under strict confidentiality, with credentials stored securely and never passed onward.Passwords circulating on chats with freelancers and part-timers, and no accountability for who has accessed your business data.
Annual return preparationMonthly reconciliations roll naturally into GSTR-9, filed comfortably before 31 December with figures already agreed through the year.Twelve months of unmatched data reconstructed in December, with differences discovered too late to be corrected cleanly.
Refund claimsRFD-01 filed with complete statements and annexures, tracked from ARN to bank credit, with any deficiency memo answered promptly.Incomplete claims bounce back as deficiency memos while the refund sits unclaimed for months and working capital stays blocked.
Input tax creditPurchase register matched against GSTR-2B each period, with defaulting suppliers chased so eligible credit is actually captured.Credit claimed from books alone; mismatches with GSTR-2B mean lost credit or excess claims that invite departmental queries.

GST Council

Inverted duty structure in textiles and footwear to be corrected from 1 January 2022

45th GST Council Meeting, Lucknow — 17 September 2021 · 2021-09-17

The Council decided that the rate changes needed to correct the inverted duty structure in the footwear and textiles sectors, discussed and deferred at an earlier meeting, would be implemented with effect from 1 January 2022. The correction involved moving fabrics, garments and footwear below the earlier value thresholds from 5 per cent up to 12 per cent so that output tax would exceed input tax and refund claims would cease. The Council also set up Groups of Ministers on rate rationalisation and on using technology to improve compliance.

What it means for you: Tamil Nadu's textile and footwear clusters faced a five to twelve per cent increase from January 2022, a decision the Council reversed for textiles on 31 December 2021, the eve of implementation.

AAR Ruling

No second levy of IGST when goods leave a Free Trade Warehousing Zone

The Bank of Nova Scotia - AAR Tamil Nadu, Order No. TN/23/AAR/2018, dated 31 December 2018 · 2018-12-31

The bank imported goods and stored them in a Free Trade Warehousing Zone before they were cleared. It asked whether integrated tax was payable again when the goods were removed from the zone to the domestic tariff area, over and above the tax collected at the time of customs clearance. The Authority, following Circular No. 3/1/2018-IGST dated 25 May 2018, held that the applicant is not liable to pay IGST at the time of removal, the levy arising once at clearance for home consumption.

Why this matters: Chennai importers using FTWZ facilities pay IGST once at clearance and should resist any demand for a second levy on removal.

Circular

No GST on loan penal charges and small payment aggregator transactions

Circular No. 245/02/2025-GST · 2025-01-28

Implementing 55th GST Council decisions, CBIC clarified that penal charges levied by banks and NBFCs for breach of loan terms, which replaced penal interest per RBI directions, are not consideration for any service and attract no GST. It also clarified that RBI-regulated payment aggregators are covered by the exemption for settlement of transactions up to Rs 2,000, and addressed other service-tax positions, regularising past periods on an as-is basis.

How we apply it: Borrowers should not accept GST charged on penal charges by lenders, and merchants using payment aggregators get relief on small-ticket settlement charges.

Upload the PDF to our free GST Notice Analyser. No payment, no account. If the notice does not state a date we can read, it says so rather than guessing one for you.

The analyser reports what your notice says and the statutory position for that form. It is not a substitute for a consultant reading your actual records, and a reply should be reviewed before you file it.

FAQs

Frequently Asked Questions

Straight answers from practising GST consultants — based on the CGST Act, current CBIC notifications and day-to-day portal experience.

Are there any hidden charges for GST notice reply?
No. The fee quoted before we start is the fee you pay. Government fees, portal charges or statutory late fees, where they apply, are separate and disclosed to you in advance with the exact amount. We issue a proper GST invoice for our professional fee. If the scope of work changes — for example, an unexpected notice or additional periods — we tell you the revised fee before doing anything further.
Do you provide gst notice reply for small businesses and proprietorships in Moulivakkam?
Yes. A large share of our clients in Moulivakkam are proprietors, small traders, shop owners, freelancers and family businesses rather than large companies. The fee of Rs.2,999 and the process are the same regardless of size, and we explain the compliance position in plain language — in Tamil or English — so you understand what is being filed on your behalf and why.
I got a show cause notice in REG-17 threatening cancellation of my GST registration. What should I do?
Form REG-17 is issued when the officer proposes to cancel your registration, commonly for continuous non-filing of returns, non-existence at the declared premises or wrongful ITC availment. You must reply in Form REG-18 within seven working days and attend the hearing if one is fixed. If the reply satisfies the officer, proceedings are dropped in REG-20; otherwise cancellation is ordered in REG-19. If cancellation happens, you can seek revocation in Form REG-21 within ninety days after filing all pending returns and paying dues. Because cancelled registrations freeze e-way bills and invoicing, treat a REG-17 in Moulivakkam as urgent.
Is everyone facing GST prosecution eligible to apply for compounding?
No. The statute excludes several categories. A person who has already been allowed to compound once in respect of the specified serious offences cannot compound again. Persons accused of issuing invoices without any supply of goods or services, the classic fake billing offence, were excluded from compounding altogether by the Finance Act 2023, and anyone convicted by a court under the GST law is also barred. Notably, the same 2023 amendments removed the earlier bar on compounding where the conduct was also an offence under another law, so that ground no longer disqualifies an applicant. Eligibility should be assessed before paying the underlying dues, since payment is a precondition but not a guarantee of compounding.
How do I get a provisional attachment on my property or bank account lifted quickly?
Rule 159(5) gives you the immediate remedy: file an objection before the Commissioner, within seven days of the attachment, contending that the property was not liable to attachment, and seek a personal hearing. If satisfied, the Commissioner releases the property through Form DRC-23. In practice, offering less disruptive security, demonstrating that the attachment cripples salaries and statutory payments, or showing that the underlying proceedings do not fall within Section 83 are effective grounds. Where the Commissioner refuses, a writ petition before the Madras High Court is the established route for Moulivakkam businesses, since no appeal is provided against DRC-22. Call +91 - 9600 606 444 the day the bank informs you.
I applied for GST registration in Moulivakkam and received a REG-03 notice. What does it mean?
Form REG-03 is a notice seeking clarification on your GST registration application. The officer may question your proof of principal place of business, promoter identity documents or the nature of business declared. You must reply in Form REG-04 within seven working days of the notice, uploading the clarification and supporting documents on the GST portal. If no reply is filed, the officer can reject the application in Form REG-05. Many Moulivakkam applications are queried over rental agreements and electricity bills, so have the property papers vetted before replying. Call +91 - 9600 606 444 if you need the REG-04 response drafted properly.
The GST department has issued me a summons under Section 70. Is it serious?
Yes, a summons should never be ignored. Under Section 70 the officer has the powers of a civil court, and the inquiry is a judicial proceeding. You must appear on the given date and time with the documents listed, and your statement will be recorded. Non-appearance can invite penalty and, in extreme cases, prosecution. Before attending, reconstruct the facts, reconcile your returns and carry organised records of the transactions under inquiry. Never guess answers during a statement; ask for time to verify records instead. ChennaiGST prepares clients thoroughly before summons appearances; call +91 - 9600 606 444 for assistance.
How much does it cost to get a GST notice reply drafted in Moulivakkam?
Professional fees depend on the type of notice and the stakes involved. A simple clarification or return-default reply costs far less than a detailed defence to a show cause notice with multiple issues. At ChennaiGST, notice reply services start at Rs.2,999, which covers studying the notice, reconciling your data, drafting a reasoned reply with supporting annexures and filing it on the GST portal. Hearing representation is scoped separately where required. We serve businesses across Moulivakkam and nearby localities, and the first assessment of your notice is done before we quote. Call +91 - 9600 606 444 with a copy of the notice for a fixed quote.
What is the difference between a Section 73 and a Section 74 notice?
Section 73 covers short payment of tax or wrong ITC without fraud, while Section 74 applies where the department alleges fraud, wilful misstatement or suppression of facts to evade tax. The stakes differ sharply. Under Section 73 the order must be passed within three years from the annual return due date and the penalty is 10 percent of the tax or Rs.10,000, whichever is higher, with no penalty if you pay before the notice. Under Section 74 the limit is five years and penalty can equal 100 percent of the tax. Contesting a wrong invocation of Section 74 is often the first line of defence.
What discrepancies usually trigger a GST scrutiny notice?
The frequent triggers are: tax declared in GSTR-1 exceeding tax paid in GSTR-3B; ITC claimed in GSTR-3B exceeding credit available in GSTR-2A or GSTR-2B; e-way bill turnover higher than reported outward supplies; missing reverse charge payments on transport, legal or import services; ITC not reversed on exempt supplies under Rules 42 and 43; and mismatches with TDS credits reported by government deductors in GSTR-7. Most of these are explainable through timing differences, credit notes or amendments, provided the reply maps each rupee of difference. An annual reconciliation habit prevents the majority of these notices for Moulivakkam businesses.
How long can a departmental GST audit under Section 65 go on?
The law requires the audit to be completed within three months from its commencement, which is the date the officers receive all the records they asked for. Where the Commissioner is satisfied that the audit cannot be completed in that time, he may record reasons and extend it by a further period not exceeding six months. In practice, audits drag when taxpayers supply records piecemeal, so submitting a complete, indexed set of documents at the start actually shortens the exercise. Track every submission with an acknowledgment, because the commencement date and the timeline arguments may matter later if disputes arise.
Does buying from unregistered dealers attract reverse charge for everyone?
No. The general reverse charge on all unregistered purchases under Section 9(4) was never fully implemented and now applies only to notified classes, principally real estate. A promoter must procure at least eighty percent of inputs and input services from registered suppliers for a project; on any shortfall, the promoter pays 18 percent under RCM, and cement purchased from an unregistered dealer attracts RCM at the rate applicable to cement, 18 percent since the September 2025 rate rationalisation reduced it from 28 percent, irrespective of the eighty percent test. Transfer of development rights and long-term leases to promoters are also covered. An ordinary trader or service provider in Moulivakkam buying stationery from an unregistered shop has no Section 9(4) liability at all.
Something is malfunctioning on the GST portal. How do I raise a formal grievance ticket?
Use the GST Self-Service Grievance Redressal Portal at selfservice.gstsystem.in. Select Report Issue, type a keyword describing the problem, and the system suggests the matching category along with FAQs; if those do not resolve it, proceed to raise the ticket by entering your GSTIN or ARN, contact details and a description, and attach screenshots of the error. A ticket reference number is issued instantly by email and SMS. Raising a ticket also creates a record that the failure was on the system side, which helps later if a deadline was missed because of a portal outage. Our Moulivakkam office logs tickets for clients as part of retainer support.
What is the place of supply for freight and courier charges on goods?
For transportation of goods, including by courier, Section 12(8) fixes the place of supply as the location of the recipient where the recipient is registered. Where the recipient is unregistered, it is the location where the goods are handed over for transportation. So a registered Moulivakkam manufacturer paying a transporter for a Chennai-to-Delhi movement has Tamil Nadu as the place of supply, and the RCM liability is paid as CGST plus SGST if the transporter is also in Tamil Nadu. This rule matters chiefly for paying reverse charge on GTA freight under the correct heads, because paying IGST where CGST and SGST were due creates a refund-and-repay exercise later.
What is self-invoicing under RCM and is there a time limit for it?
When you receive supplies liable to reverse charge from an unregistered supplier, Section 31(3)(f) requires you, the recipient, to issue an invoice on yourself, because the supplier cannot issue a tax invoice. You must also issue a payment voucher when paying the supplier. From 1 November 2024, Rule 47A prescribes a firm deadline: the self-invoice must be issued within thirty days of receiving the supply. This document is not a formality; the time limit for claiming the RCM credit is reckoned from the self-invoice, and its absence can cost you the credit besides inviting penalty. Maintain a monthly self-invoice series covering rent, freight, legal fees and similar unregistered-supplier heads.
Who must sign GST filings with a DSC, and who can use EVC?
Companies and limited liability partnerships must authenticate registration applications and returns with a Digital Signature Certificate of the authorised signatory; the Electronic Verification Code route is not ordinarily available to them, though the government has periodically allowed EVC for companies during specified relaxation windows. Proprietorships, partnerships, HUFs and trusts can freely use EVC, an OTP sent to the authorised signatory's registered mobile and email. The DSC must be a Class 3 signature registered on the portal against the signatory's PAN. If a company's filings fail at the signing step, an expired or unregistered DSC is the usual culprit.
Can my GST registration be cancelled for not filing returns?
Yes. Under Rule 21A, the department can suspend a GSTIN where returns are not filed for a continuous period, and Section 29 permits cancellation where a regular taxpayer has not filed returns for six months (two quarters for QRMP, and a composition taxpayer defaulting on the annual return beyond three months). During suspension you cannot issue tax invoices or file returns, which freezes the business. If cancellation happens, revocation must be sought through REG-21 within 90 days after clearing all dues. If you have received a suspension notice in Moulivakkam, call +91 - 9600 606 444 immediately.
Does compensation cess still apply on any goods?
For most goods, no. With the rate restructuring of 22 September 2025, compensation cess was discontinued on items such as cars, and the demerit burden was merged into the single 40 percent rate. The cess continues only on pan masala and specified tobacco products during the transition period while past compensation cess loan obligations are being discharged. A practical point for traders: balances of unutilised compensation cess credit cannot be cross-utilised against CGST, SGST or IGST liability, so businesses holding old cess credit should evaluate their position rather than assuming it will set off future tax.
What is the process for GST notice reply?
The process runs in clear stages: Notice study; Data reconciliation; Reply drafting; Filing and payment. A senior consultant reviews your file at each stage rather than passing it to a data-entry desk, and you receive a confirmation with the filed documents once it is complete. You always know which stage your work is at — we update you on WhatsApp instead of leaving you to follow up.
Can I get GST notice reply done online without visiting the office?
Yes, the entire process can be handled online. You share scanned documents on WhatsApp or email, we prepare and file everything on the GST portal, and you receive the acknowledgement and filed copies digitally. Businesses in Moulivakkam regularly complete notice reply with us without a single office visit. If a physical verification or personal hearing is required by the department, we guide you through it.
Do you provide GST notice reply for businesses on 1st Street?
Yes. We serve businesses on and around 1st Street in Moulivakkam — shops, offices, godowns and home-run businesses alike. Document pickup can be arranged at your premises, or you can send everything on WhatsApp and complete notice reply without leaving your counter. Call +91 - 9600 606 444 and mention your location; a consultant will confirm the fee and timeline immediately.
