Trade Profile and GST Jurisdiction for Cheran Street, Perungalathur

If you operate in Perungalathur, GST deadlines arrive with the same force as anywhere in Chennai — GSTR-1 by the 11th, GSTR-3B by the 20th. Perungalathur is where the Chennai Bypass Expressway meets GST Road beside the Perungalathur Maempalam, ringing New Perungalathur railway station with warehouses, timber and plywood depots, automobile showrooms, driving schools, grain wholesalers and highway eateries along Nehru Main Road and Kamaraj High Road. Warehouse operators and interstate suppliers live on e-way bills and transporter reverse charge, and roving-squad detentions under Section 129 are a recurring pain. We provide GSTR-1 & GSTR-3B Monthly Filing to businesses across Perungalathur and the adjoining Tambaram and Irumbuliyur localities, maintaining a compliance calendar for every client so due dates are met without last-minute panic, late fees or interest at 18 percent per annum.

GST jurisdiction for Perungalathur (PIN 600063): businesses here generally fall under the CGST Chennai Outer Commissionerate. We regularly represent clients from Perungalathur before this jurisdiction for registrations, clarifications and notice hearings, and can confirm your exact division and range from your GSTIN. State-jurisdiction cases are handled with the Tamil Nadu Commercial Taxes Department.
GST for Agri Traders and Food Processors in Perungalathur
Agricultural trade straddles the exempt-taxable border. Fresh and unprocessed produce is exempt, but the same goods become taxable at 5 percent once sold pre-packaged and labelled under the Legal Metrology Act, so packing decisions change tax outcomes. Buying raw cotton or cashew nuts directly from agriculturists shifts the tax onto the buyer under reverse charge under Section 9(3). Traders in Perungalathur mixing exempt and taxable turnover must reverse proportionate credit under Rule 42 on godown rent, transport and other common expenses. A specialist classifies each product line correctly, computes reverse charge on farm-gate purchases, and documents the packaging distinction officers examine first.
After GSTR-1 & GSTR-3B Monthly Filing is filed, support continues — acknowledgements are archived, upcoming due dates are tracked, and any departmental query on the work is answered, all within fees starting at Rs.749 in Perungalathur.
Why Us

Why Cheran Street, Perungalathur Businesses Choose ChennaiGST

Not a bulk-filing portal. A senior consultant knows your file, your jurisdiction and your deadlines.

GST Portal Expertise, Including the Difficult Days

OTP failures, DSC errors, stuck submissions on due-date evenings — we deal with the GST portal daily and know the workarounds. When the site misbehaves on the 20th, our team keeps retrying and escalating so your return still goes through.

Proactive Alerts Before Problems Become Notices

If your GSTR-1 and GSTR-3B start drifting apart, if a large supplier stops filing, or if your turnover approaches the e-invoice threshold, we flag it to you immediately. Early warnings from our side are cheaper than departmental letters later.

Complete Documentation, Properly Archived

Every acknowledgement, challan, computation sheet and filed return is saved and shared with you in an organised folder. When a bank, buyer or GST officer asks for a document from two years ago, it reaches you the same day without any scrambling.

Support in Tamil and English

GST is confusing enough without a language barrier. Our team explains notices, tax positions and filing requirements in plain Tamil or English, whichever you and your staff in Perungalathur are comfortable with, and keeps written communication simple and jargon-free.

QRMP Managed Properly, Not Just Opted Into

Quarterly filing still demands monthly attention — IFF uploads so your buyers see their credit on time, and tax payment through PMT-06 by the 25th for the first two months of each quarter. We run that monthly rhythm so QRMP saves you effort without creating gaps.

Notice Support Does Not Stop at Filing

If a query, ASMT-10 scrutiny notice or DRC-01 arrives on a return we filed, we stand behind our work and help you draft the reply. You are not left alone with a departmental letter and a thirty-day clock ticking against you.

How It Works

Our Monthly Returns Process

Monthly data collection

At month end we remind you and collect sales invoices, purchase bills and credit notes in whatever format you maintain, including Excel, Tally exports or scanned copies.

GSTR-1 preparation and filing

We prepare invoice-wise outward supply details, validate GSTINs of your B2B customers, summarise B2C supplies and file GSTR-1 on the portal before the 11th.

ITC reconciliation with GSTR-2B

We download your auto-drafted GSTR-2B, match it against purchase records, and claim only eligible input tax credit so that mismatches do not trigger scrutiny notices later.

Tax computation and confirmation

We compute net tax payable after ITC set-off, share the working with you for approval, and generate the payment challan for any cash liability.

GSTR-3B filing and reporting

After your confirmation and tax payment, we file GSTR-3B before the 20th and send you both filed acknowledgements along with a one-page summary of the month.

Outcomes

What You Get

Practical outcomes our clients measure us by.

Bank and Tender Readiness

Loan applications and government tenders routinely demand GST returns and registration documents. With everything filed and archived properly, you can produce a complete compliance file within hours instead of days.

Confidence During Officer Interactions

When a query or verification comes, you respond through a professional who deals with the department regularly, in the department's own language and format, instead of facing an officer's letter alone.

Smooth Scheme Transitions

Whether moving between composition and regular scheme, opting into QRMP, or crossing the e-invoice threshold at Rs.5 crore, transitions are planned in advance rather than discovered after a compliance breach.

A Written Trail for Every Decision

Tax positions, rate choices and credit calls are documented as they are made, so if a question arises years later, the reasoning and evidence are on file rather than in someone's fading memory.

No Money Idling in the Cash Ledger

Excess balances parked in the electronic cash ledger are identified during regular ledger reviews and either utilised against upcoming liability or claimed back as a refund, instead of sitting interest-free with the government.

Fewer Departmental Notices

Consistent, reconciled returns give the department's matching systems nothing to flag. Clients who move to us after years of self-filing typically see scrutiny queries and mismatch notices fall away within a few filing cycles.

Why a Specialist Matters

With ChennaiGST vs Doing It Yourself

AspectWith ChennaiGSTDIY / Unattended
Annual return preparationMonthly reconciliations roll naturally into GSTR-9, filed comfortably before 31 December with figures already agreed through the year.Twelve months of unmatched data reconstructed in December, with differences discovered too late to be corrected cleanly.
When a notice arrivesA professional drafts the reply in the department's format and files it within the statutory window, such as thirty days for ASMT-11.You face departmental language alone, and a missed reply deadline can convert a simple query into a demand with penalty.
Keeping up with changesRate changes, portal updates and new thresholds such as the Rs.5 crore e-invoice limit are tracked by us and applied to your case proactively.Changes are discovered after the fact — often through a rejected filing, a blocked e-way bill or a departmental letter.
Refund claimsRFD-01 filed with complete statements and annexures, tracked from ARN to bank credit, with any deficiency memo answered promptly.Incomplete claims bounce back as deficiency memos while the refund sits unclaimed for months and working capital stays blocked.
Goods in transitE-way bills generated correctly and matched to invoices, so consignments pass roadside inspections without detention or penalty.A defective or missing e-way bill can mean detention at a checkpoint, with penalties that dwarf the tax on the consignment.
Due-date trackingA maintained compliance calendar with internal cut-offs days before the 11th and the 20th; we chase you for data, not the other way around.Deadlines remembered from memory or phone alarms; one busy week and the return slips past the due date.

Portal Advisory

GSTR-3B outward liability becomes non-editable from July 2025

GSTN Advisory dated 7 June 2025 — non-editable auto-populated liability in GSTR-3B · 2025-06-07

After an October 2024 advisory and a January 2025 deferment, GSTN confirmed that from the July 2025 tax period the auto-populated outward tax liability in GSTR-3B, drawn from GSTR-1, IFF or GSTR-1A, is hard-locked and cannot be edited manually while filing. Any correction to sales figures must be made through GSTR-1A before GSTR-3B is filed. The change is intended to end mismatches between GSTR-1 and GSTR-3B.

What to do about it: Reconcile sales data before filing GSTR-1 each month, since GSTR-3B can no longer be adjusted at the last minute.

Case Law

Nine-judge Bench holds royalty on minerals is not a tax and States may levy their own tax

Mineral Area Development Authority v. Steel Authority of India — Supreme Court, nine-judge Bench, (2024) 10 SCC 1, judgment dated 25-07-2024 · 2024-07-25

The Supreme Court held by majority that royalty payable under the mining law is a contractual consideration and not a tax. States retain legislative competence to impose taxes on mineral rights and on mineral-bearing land, and this power is not taken away by the central mining legislation. The Court overruled the contrary view taken in the earlier India Cement case, altering the fiscal position of mining and quarrying operations.

Practical effect: Chennai businesses in mining, quarrying or aggregates should factor State levies on mineral rights into costing alongside GST on the supply.

GST Council

Late fee waived for all pending GSTR-1 from July 2017 to November 2019 if filed by 10 January 2020

38th GST Council Meeting, New Delhi — 18 December 2019 · 2019-12-18

The Council waived late fee for taxpayers who furnished all pending statements of outward supplies in GSTR-1 for the tax periods from July 2017 to November 2019, provided they were filed by 10 January 2020. It also decided that e-way bill generation would be blocked for taxpayers who had not filed GSTR-1 for two tax periods, extending the blocking mechanism that already applied to GSTR-3B defaulters. Standard operating procedures were prescribed for officers dealing with non-filers, and Grievance Redressal Committees were set up at zonal and state level.

How we apply it: GSTR-1 default now carries its own e-way bill block, so filing GSTR-3B alone is not enough to keep despatches moving.

FAQs

Frequently Asked Questions

Straight answers from practising GST consultants — based on the CGST Act, current CBIC notifications and day-to-day portal experience.

What documents are required for GSTR-1 & GSTR-3B monthly filing in Perungalathur?
For GSTR-1 & GSTR-3B monthly filing you will generally need: Sales invoices or sales register for the month, Purchase invoices or purchase register, Credit notes and debit notes issued during the month, GST portal login credentials, Bank statement for the period, if reconciliation is needed. The exact list depends on your constitution — proprietorship, partnership, LLP or company — and on the specifics of your case. Send what you have on WhatsApp to +91 - 9600 606 444 and we will confirm within the same working day exactly what else is needed, so nothing is rejected later for a missing paper.
What is the process for GSTR-1 & GSTR-3B monthly filing?
The process runs in clear stages: Monthly data collection; GSTR-1 preparation and filing; ITC reconciliation with GSTR-2B; Tax computation and confirmation. A senior consultant reviews your file at each stage rather than passing it to a data-entry desk, and you receive a confirmation with the filed documents once it is complete. You always know which stage your work is at — we update you on WhatsApp instead of leaving you to follow up.
What is the due date for GSTR-3B in Tamil Nadu?
For monthly filers, GSTR-3B is due on the 20th of the following month. If you are registered in Tamil Nadu and have opted for the QRMP scheme, your quarterly GSTR-3B is due on the 22nd of the month following the quarter. GSTR-3B is the summary return through which you actually pay tax, so missing it attracts a late fee of Rs.50 per day (Rs.20 for nil returns) plus interest at 18 percent per annum on tax paid late.
We hire security guards from an agency. Should they charge GST or should we pay it ourselves?
Check the agency's constitution. Since 1 January 2019, security services by way of supply of security personnel provided by any person other than a body corporate to a registered person fall under reverse charge, so your business pays the 18 percent directly and claims credit. If the agency is a body corporate, such as a private limited company, it charges GST under forward charge on its invoice. Recipients registered under the composition scheme are excluded from this reverse charge entry. Businesses in Perungalathur commonly pay agencies' forward-charge invoices while also missing their own RCM cases, so an annual review of security and manpower bills is worthwhile.
My landlord in Perungalathur has no GSTIN but my business is registered. Who pays GST on the shop rent?
You do. With effect from 10 October 2024, renting of immovable property other than a residential dwelling by an unregistered person to a registered person was brought under reverse charge through Notification 09/2024-Central Tax (Rate). So a registered trader renting a shop from an unregistered landlord must pay 18 percent under RCM through GSTR-3B and can claim it back as input tax credit if eligible. Composition taxpayers have since been kept outside this entry, given they cannot claim credit. Many small businesses in Perungalathur are still unaware of this 2024 change, and scrutiny notices on rent entries have already begun appearing. Call +91 - 9600 606 444 to regularise past months.
Do I have to report HSN codes in my GSTR-1?
Yes. Taxpayers with aggregate turnover up to Rs.5 crore must report a 4-digit HSN summary for B2B supplies in Table 12 of GSTR-1, while those above Rs.5 crore must report 6-digit HSN codes for all supplies. The portal now validates HSN entries against its master list, so wrong or truncated codes can block filing. Getting HSN classification right also determines your tax rate, so it is worth a one-time review of your product list. Our team in Perungalathur maintains a verified HSN master for every client.
What is GSTR-2B and why does my consultant match it before filing?
GSTR-2B is an auto-drafted statement of the input tax credit available to you, generated on the 14th of every month from the GSTR-1 and IFF filings of your suppliers. Input tax credit in GSTR-3B can only be claimed for invoices appearing in GSTR-2B, so matching your purchase register against it before filing is essential. If a supplier has not uploaded an invoice, the credit must be deferred and the supplier followed up. This monthly reconciliation is included in our return filing service for businesses in Perungalathur.
Swiggy and Zomato pay the GST on my restaurant orders. How do I show these sales in my returns?
Since 1 January 2022, tax on restaurant services supplied through e-commerce operators is payable by the operator under Section 9(5), so you do not charge GST on app orders and no TCS is collected on them either. You must still report these supplies: show them in GSTR-3B Table 3.1.1(ii) as supplies on which the operator pays tax, and disclose them in GSTR-1, without paying tax on them again. Direct dine-in and takeaway billing remains taxable in your hands at 5%. Mixing up these tables is a common error we correct for restaurants in Perungalathur; call +91 - 9600 606 444 for help.
My supplier has not uploaded an invoice and it is missing from GSTR-2B. Can I still claim the ITC?
No, not until it appears. Since 1 January 2022, Section 16(2)(aa) permits ITC only on invoices furnished by the supplier in GSTR-1 and communicated to you in GSTR-2B; the earlier provisional credit tolerance is gone. Claiming credit on a missing invoice invites a Rule 88D intimation and reversal with interest at 18 percent. The practical remedy is vendor follow-up: withhold the tax portion of payment until the supplier uploads, and claim the credit in the month it appears in GSTR-2B, subject to the overall time limit of 30 November following the financial year. Vendor discipline clauses in purchase orders help enormously.
My company in Perungalathur is dormant. Is there a cheap way to stay GST compliant?
Yes. A dormant GSTIN still requires nil GSTR-1 and nil GSTR-3B every period, and nil GSTR-9 obligations may also arise depending on turnover. Our dormant-entity plan at Rs.749 per month covers both nil returns, due-date tracking and portal monitoring so notices do not go unnoticed. If you have no intention of restarting the business, it may be cheaper to surrender the registration through a cancellation application and file the final return, which we can also handle. Speak to us on +91 - 9600 606 444 and we will recommend whichever route costs you less.
I received an intimation in DRC-01C about ITC mismatch. How do I respond?
DRC-01C is issued under Rule 88D when the ITC claimed in your GSTR-3B exceeds the ITC available in GSTR-2B beyond the permitted limits. You must respond within seven days, either by paying the excess with interest through DRC-03 or by explaining the difference in Part B of DRC-01C, citing valid reasons such as credits of earlier periods claimed within time, reclaims after Rule 37 payment, or import ITC not flowing through 2B. Until you respond, the portal can block filing of your next GSTR-1. Do not ignore the seven-day window; call +91 - 9600 606 444 the day it arrives.
I buy electronics stock from distributors in other states. How does the IGST on purchases work for me?
Inter-state purchases carry IGST, which flows into your GSTR-2B once the distributor files GSTR-1, and it is fully available as input tax credit. When you sell locally in Tamil Nadu you charge CGST and SGST, and the law lets you use IGST credit against both, with the portal applying the set-off order automatically. There is no cost disadvantage in buying from out-of-state distributors, provided they are compliant filers; a distributor who files late delays your credit by a month. Track supplier filing discipline as part of vendor selection. Retailers in Perungalathur can call +91 - 9600 606 444 for a supplier compliance scorecard.
Is GST still charged on life and health insurance premiums?
No. With effect from 22 September 2025, premiums on all individual life insurance policies, including term plans, endowment plans and ULIPs, and all individual health insurance policies, including family floater and senior citizen plans, are exempt from GST. Reinsurance of these policies is also exempt. Earlier these premiums bore 18 percent tax. Note that the exemption applies to policies taken by individuals; certain group covers procured by businesses can still attract GST, and insurers can no longer claim input credit attributable to exempt policies. Policyholders should see the benefit directly in renewal notices.
What is the GST rate for salons, gyms and yoga centres?
From 22 September 2025, beauty and physical well-being services, covering salons, barbers, beauty parlours, gyms, fitness centres and yoga institutes, attract 5 percent GST without input tax credit, reduced from the earlier 18 percent. The condition attached to the concessional rate is important: because credit is barred, the GST paid on your rent, equipment, cosmetics and consumables becomes part of your cost base. Service businesses in Perungalathur moving to the 5 percent rate should reprice services keeping this embedded tax in mind, and must not continue charging 18 percent, since excess tax collected has to be deposited with the government.
Which daily-use grocery items became cheaper under GST from September 2025?
The 56th GST Council's rationalisation, effective 22 September 2025, moved a large basket of daily essentials from 12% or 18% down to 5%, including butter, ghee, cheese, namkeens, sauces, pasta, chocolates, biscuits, cornflakes, hair oil, shampoo, soaps and toothpaste. UHT milk, pre-packaged paneer and all Indian breads such as roti, chapati and paratha became nil rated. Aerated and caffeinated beverages, by contrast, went to the 40% demerit rate. Grocery and supermarket billing masters needed a near-complete refresh from that date, and old stock is simply sold at the new rate applicable on the date of supply.
What is the default place of supply rule for services within India?
Section 12(2) of the IGST Act sets the general rule for domestic services: if the recipient is registered, the place of supply is the recipient's location; if unregistered, it is the recipient's address on your records, and failing that, the supplier's own location. So a consultant in Perungalathur advising a registered company in Hyderabad charges IGST, while the same advice to a local walk-in individual attracts CGST plus SGST. This default yields only to the specific rules for immovable property, events, transportation, and a few other categories, so always check whether a specific rule captures your service before falling back on the general one.
What is the electronic liability register on the GST portal and why should I check it?
The electronic liability register, maintained in Form PMT-01, records every liability raised against your GSTIN: self-assessed tax from returns in Part I, and demands from assessments, adjudication orders and DRC-07 summaries in Part II. Payments and pre-deposits are set off against these entries. You can view it under Services, then Ledgers. Checking Part II periodically matters because demand entries you never noticed can trigger recovery, interest accumulation and refund adjustments. During any refund claim, the officer will offset outstanding register balances, so a clean register speeds up your money. We review all three ledgers in every Perungalathur health check.
What details must a GST tax invoice compulsorily contain?
Rule 46 of the CGST Rules prescribes the mandatory contents: your name, address and GSTIN; a consecutive serial number not exceeding sixteen characters, unique for the financial year; the date of issue; the recipient's name, address and GSTIN if registered; the HSN or SAC code; description, quantity and unit; total and taxable value; any discount; the rate and amount of CGST, SGST or IGST shown separately; place of supply with the state name for inter-state supplies; a declaration where tax is payable on reverse charge; and signature or digital signature of the supplier. Missing fields make the invoice defective and can jeopardise your buyer's credit.
How long does GSTR-1 & GSTR-3B monthly filing take in Perungalathur?
Filed before the 11th and 20th of every month. That assumes your documents are complete and there is no departmental query. We start the same day we receive your papers and tell you the realistic completion date upfront rather than an optimistic one. Where the GST portal or the officer causes delay — clarifications, physical verification or system issues — we track it daily and keep you informed on WhatsApp.
Which GST office handles Perungalathur businesses?
Businesses in Perungalathur (PIN 600063) generally fall under the CGST Chennai Outer Commissionerate, with state-jurisdiction cases handled by the Tamil Nadu Commercial Taxes Department. Your exact division and range can be confirmed from your GSTIN on the GST portal. We regularly appear before this jurisdiction for registrations, clarifications and hearings, so we know the local practice and documentation preferences.
