Trade Profile and GST Jurisdiction for 1st Street, Puzhuthivakkam

Choosing GSTR-1 & GSTR-3B Monthly Filing in Puzhuthivakkam is ultimately an act of trust: you are handing over sales figures, purchase records and portal access. Puzhuthivakkam's commerce runs along Bazaar Road and Bazaar Main Road off Sabari Salai, where provision wholesalers, bakeries, silk shops and clinics serve the Union Carbide Colony, Hindu Colony and Vijayanagar blocks and the crowd around the Puzhuthivakkam Bus Stand. Traders stocking loose grains and pulses alongside pre-packaged and labelled goods repeatedly get the five per cent pre-packaged levy and the Rule 42 credit reversal on exempt turnover wrong. We earn that trust the unglamorous way — fixed fees honoured, drafts approved by you before filing, acknowledgements shared the same day, and strict confidentiality throughout. Clients across Puzhuthivakkam, Ullagaram and Madipakkam have stayed with us for years on precisely this basis.

GST jurisdiction for Puzhuthivakkam (PIN 600091): businesses here generally fall under the CGST Chennai South Commissionerate. We regularly represent clients from Puzhuthivakkam before this jurisdiction for registrations, clarifications and notice hearings, and can confirm your exact division and range from your GSTIN. State-jurisdiction cases are handled with the Tamil Nadu Commercial Taxes Department.
GST for Textile and Apparel Businesses in Puzhuthivakkam
Textile rates changed structurally from 22 September 2025: garments and made-ups priced up to Rs.2,500 per piece attract 5 percent, while pieces above that level attract 18 percent, so one saree rack in Puzhuthivakkam can legitimately carry two rates. Most fabrics remain at 5 percent, and job work processes such as dyeing, printing and embroidery for registered principals are taxed at 5 percent. A specialist builds price-point-based rate logic into your billing, tracks the credit accumulation that low-rate output still causes, and keeps Chapter 50 to 63 HSN reporting accurate so automated comparisons of your GSTR-1 and e-way bill data raise no flags.
Urgent GSTR-1 & GSTR-3B Monthly Filing in Puzhuthivakkam is handled on priority — expiring deadlines, suspended registrations and notice replies are taken up the same working day, with fixed professional fees starting at Rs.749.
Why Us

Why 1st Street, Puzhuthivakkam Businesses Choose ChennaiGST

Not a bulk-filing portal. A senior consultant knows your file, your jurisdiction and your deadlines.

Same-Day Response, Every Working Day

Send your query on call or WhatsApp and you hear back the same working day, usually within a few hours. When a due date is close or a notice has landed, waiting two days for a reply is simply not acceptable, and we know it.

Handholding for First-Time Registrants

A new GSTIN comes with obligations nobody explains at approval — the invoice series rules, displaying the registration certificate and GSTIN at your premises, and the first return cycle. We walk new registrants in Puzhuthivakkam through each of these so month one starts correctly.

E-Invoice and E-Way Bill Fluency

E-invoicing is mandatory once turnover crosses Rs.5 crore and e-way bills apply to goods movements above Rs.50,000. We set up, train and troubleshoot both systems, so your despatches from Puzhuthivakkam are never held up by a compliance gap at the gate.

Job Work Movements Tracked Through ITC-04

Goods sent to job workers must move on delivery challans, return within the statutory period, and be reported in ITC-04. We track every outward and return leg for manufacturing clients in Puzhuthivakkam, so inputs sent out for processing never quietly convert into a deemed supply carrying tax and interest.

Strict Data Confidentiality

Your sales figures, supplier lists and login credentials are handled only by our engaged team, stored securely and never shared with any third party. Many of our clients in Puzhuthivakkam compete with each other; complete confidentiality is a condition of our work.

Experience Across Trades and Sectors

Traders, manufacturers, contractors, e-commerce sellers, professionals and service exporters — we have handled GST for all of them. Whatever mix of goods and services your Puzhuthivakkam business supplies, the rate, classification and place-of-supply questions have almost certainly crossed our desk before.

How It Works

Our Monthly Returns Process

Monthly data collection

At month end we remind you and collect sales invoices, purchase bills and credit notes in whatever format you maintain, including Excel, Tally exports or scanned copies.

GSTR-1 preparation and filing

We prepare invoice-wise outward supply details, validate GSTINs of your B2B customers, summarise B2C supplies and file GSTR-1 on the portal before the 11th.

ITC reconciliation with GSTR-2B

We download your auto-drafted GSTR-2B, match it against purchase records, and claim only eligible input tax credit so that mismatches do not trigger scrutiny notices later.

Tax computation and confirmation

We compute net tax payable after ITC set-off, share the working with you for approval, and generate the payment challan for any cash liability.

GSTR-3B filing and reporting

After your confirmation and tax payment, we file GSTR-3B before the 20th and send you both filed acknowledgements along with a one-page summary of the month.

Outcomes

What You Get

Practical outcomes our clients measure us by.

Waiver Benefits Never Missed

Late-fee waivers and amnesty windows notified by the GST Council are applied to your history within their deadlines, capturing reliefs that most businesses only hear about once the window has already closed.

Advances Treated Correctly

Advances received for services attract GST on receipt while advances for goods generally do not; applying this distinction correctly means you neither prepay tax unnecessarily nor omit a liability that surfaces later with interest.

The Lowest Tax Position the Law Allows

Your scheme choice — regular, composition or QRMP — is re-examined as turnover and margins change, so you are always paying under the structure that legitimately costs your business the least.

Time Back for Your Actual Business

The hours you or your accountant spent wrestling with the portal, JSON errors and reconciliations every month return to sales, operations and customers, while trained hands manage the compliance in the background.

No Money Idling in the Cash Ledger

Excess balances parked in the electronic cash ledger are identified during regular ledger reviews and either utilised against upcoming liability or claimed back as a refund, instead of sitting interest-free with the government.

TDS and TCS Credits Converted to Cash

Amounts deducted by government buyers as GST TDS and by marketplaces as TCS are accepted on the portal each period, so money withheld against your GSTIN actually reaches your cash ledger instead of lying unclaimed.

Why a Specialist Matters

With ChennaiGST vs Doing It Yourself

AspectWith ChennaiGSTDIY / Unattended
Goods in transitE-way bills generated correctly and matched to invoices, so consignments pass roadside inspections without detention or penalty.A defective or missing e-way bill can mean detention at a checkpoint, with penalties that dwarf the tax on the consignment.
When a notice arrivesA professional drafts the reply in the department's format and files it within the statutory window, such as thirty days for ASMT-11.You face departmental language alone, and a missed reply deadline can convert a simple query into a demand with penalty.
Input tax creditPurchase register matched against GSTR-2B each period, with defaulting suppliers chased so eligible credit is actually captured.Credit claimed from books alone; mismatches with GSTR-2B mean lost credit or excess claims that invite departmental queries.
Record keepingEvery return, challan, acknowledgement and working paper archived in an organised folder, retrievable in minutes years later.Documents scattered across email, downloads and old phones; assembling records for a bank or an audit takes days.
Keeping up with changesRate changes, portal updates and new thresholds such as the Rs.5 crore e-invoice limit are tracked by us and applied to your case proactively.Changes are discovered after the fact — often through a rejected filing, a blocked e-way bill or a departmental letter.
Late fees and interestFilings go in ahead of statutory dates, so the Rs.50-per-day late fee and 18 percent interest never arise.Late fees accumulate silently every delayed day, and interest on unpaid tax runs at 18 percent per annum.

GST Law Desk

Recent GST Law You Should Know — relevant to Puzhuthivakkam businesses

Real notifications, rulings and case law our consultants track — and apply to client filings and notice replies.

Notification

Nil and nine per cent interest on delayed GSTR-3B for COVID months

Notification No. 31/2020-Central Tax · 2020-04-03

For the February, March and April 2020 tax periods CBIC lowered the interest rate on late GSTR-3B payment. Taxpayers with aggregate turnover above Rs 5 crore paid no interest for the first fifteen days after the due date and nine per cent thereafter, provided the return was filed by 24 June 2020. Taxpayers with turnover up to Rs 5 crore paid no interest at all if they filed within the extended dates specified for their turnover slab.

Why this matters: Interest demands for February to April 2020 must be recomputed under this concessional table, and many DRC-01 interest computations for that period are simply wrong.

Circular

How to correct mistakes in GSTR-3B and the rules on late fee for early returns

Circular No. 26/26/2017-GST dated 29 December 2017 · 2017-12-29

This consolidated circular explained the return filing decisions of the 23rd GST Council meeting. It clarified the due dates, the quantum of late fee, and, most usefully, that errors in a GSTR-3B already filed cannot be revised but must be corrected by adjusting the figures in the return of a later month, with interest payable where tax was short paid. It also dealt with returns that were submitted but not filed because of portal problems.

What it means for you: The principle that GSTR-3B is corrected in a subsequent month rather than revised still governs every rectification a Chennai business makes today.

AAR Ruling

Association maintenance taxed on the whole amount once the limit is crossed

TVH Lumbini Square Owners Association - AAR Tamil Nadu, Order No. 25/ARA/2019, dated 21 June 2019 · 2019-06-21

A residents welfare association collected monthly maintenance contributions from its members. The Authority held that where the contribution per member exceeds Rs. 7,500 a month, GST is payable on the entire contribution and not merely on the amount above Rs. 7,500. The Madras High Court subsequently held, in Greenwood Owners Association, that only the excess over Rs. 7,500 is taxable, and associations now follow that judicial position.

What it means for you: Chennai apartment associations should apply the High Court position carefully and keep member-wise workings ready for departmental scrutiny.

FAQs

Frequently Asked Questions

Straight answers from practising GST consultants — based on the CGST Act, current CBIC notifications and day-to-day portal experience.

Do you provide GSTR-1 & GSTR-3B monthly filing for businesses on 1st Street?
Yes. We serve businesses on and around 1st Street in Puzhuthivakkam — shops, offices, godowns and home-run businesses alike. Document pickup can be arranged at your premises, or you can send everything on WhatsApp and complete monthly returns without leaving your counter. Call +91 - 9600 606 444 and mention your location; a consultant will confirm the fee and timeline immediately.
Can I get GSTR-1 & GSTR-3B monthly filing done online without visiting the office?
Yes, the entire process can be handled online. You share scanned documents on WhatsApp or email, we prepare and file everything on the GST portal, and you receive the acknowledgement and filed copies digitally. Businesses in Puzhuthivakkam regularly complete monthly returns with us without a single office visit. If a physical verification or personal hearing is required by the department, we guide you through it.
My credit notes this month exceed my sales. Can GSTR-3B show a negative figure?
Yes. Since the January 2024 tax period, the portal permits negative values in Table 3.1 of GSTR-3B where credit notes issued in a month exceed the outward supplies, a situation common in businesses with heavy sales returns. The resulting negative liability is carried forward automatically by the system and adjusted against the liability of subsequent tax periods, so you no longer need to defer reporting credit notes. Ensure the same credit notes are reported in GSTR-1, because GSTR-3B auto-populates from it and manual deviations invite the portal's variance flags. Retailers with seasonal return spikes benefit most from this facility.
My shop was closed for a month. Can I skip filing GST returns for that period?
No. Once you hold an active GSTIN, returns must be filed for every tax period regardless of business activity. If there were no sales and no purchases, you must file nil GSTR-1 and nil GSTR-3B for that month. Skipping creates a break in the sequential filing chain, blocks future returns, accumulates late fees and can eventually lead to suspension of registration. Nil returns take only minutes and can even be filed by SMS. If your business in Puzhuthivakkam has periods of inactivity, ask us about our low-cost nil filing plan.
How does an ISD actually distribute credit among branches?
Distribution follows Section 20 read with Rule 39. Credit attributable to a single branch goes only to that branch; credit for common services is distributed among operational branches in the ratio of their turnover in the preceding financial year. The ISD issues an ISD invoice to each recipient GSTIN and reports the distribution in GSTR-6 by the 13th of the following month, after which the credit appears in each branch's GSTR-2B. IGST credit is distributed as IGST, while CGST and SGST credit is distributed as IGST to branches in other states. Excess distribution is recoverable from the recipient with interest, so the turnover ratios must be computed carefully each year.
How is interest calculated if I pay GST late?
Interest is charged at 18 percent per annum under Section 50 of the CGST Act, calculated day-wise from the due date until the date of payment. Following the amendment to Section 50, interest on delayed GSTR-3B filing applies only on the portion of tax paid through the electronic cash ledger, not on the amount settled using input tax credit. For example, a cash liability of Rs.1,00,000 paid 30 days late attracts roughly Rs.1,479 as interest. We compute this precisely before filing so clients in Puzhuthivakkam never overpay or underpay.
How are B2B and B2C invoices reported differently in GST returns?
B2B invoices, meaning supplies to registered buyers, are reported invoice by invoice in Table 4 of GSTR-1 with the buyer's GSTIN, so each one flows into that buyer's GSTR-2B for credit. B2C supplies are split into two streams: large inter-state invoices above the threshold are reported invoice-wise in Table 5, while all remaining B2C sales are reported as consolidated, rate-wise totals per state in Table 7. This is why capturing the buyer's GSTIN correctly at billing matters so much; an invoice keyed as B2C by a cashier gives the registered buyer no credit and triggers correction requests later.
My SaaS startup in Puzhuthivakkam bills both US and Indian customers. Is everything zero-rated?
No. Only the supplies satisfying the export conditions are zero-rated under your LUT. Subscriptions billed to customers located in India are ordinary taxable supplies at 18 percent, with the place of supply being the registered customer's location, or the address on record for unregistered users. Your GSTR-1 must therefore separate export invoices from domestic B2B and B2C supplies, and your accumulated ITC refund is computed only in proportion to export turnover. Many Puzhuthivakkam SaaS founders wrongly treat all revenue as export because billing runs through one gateway; a revenue-wise mapping avoids demands later. Call +91 - 9600 606 444 for a review.
My supplier has not uploaded an invoice and it is missing from GSTR-2B. Can I still claim the ITC?
No, not until it appears. Since 1 January 2022, Section 16(2)(aa) permits ITC only on invoices furnished by the supplier in GSTR-1 and communicated to you in GSTR-2B; the earlier provisional credit tolerance is gone. Claiming credit on a missing invoice invites a Rule 88D intimation and reversal with interest at 18 percent. The practical remedy is vendor follow-up: withhold the tax portion of payment until the supplier uploads, and claim the credit in the month it appears in GSTR-2B, subject to the overall time limit of 30 November following the financial year. Vendor discipline clauses in purchase orders help enormously.
My staff stay in hotels in other states on tour. Why can I not claim that GST?
Because of the place of supply rule. Hotel accommodation is taxed where the hotel is located, so a Mumbai hotel charges CGST plus Maharashtra SGST even when the guest's employer is registered in Tamil Nadu. Your Tamil Nadu GSTIN can utilise only IGST, CGST and Tamil Nadu SGST, so another state's CGST and SGST is unusable credit; it will appear in your GSTR-2B but must be excluded from the claim. Options are limited: absorb it as cost, or obtain registration in states with heavy recurring stays, which rarely pays. Businesses in Puzhuthivakkam with travelling teams should review bookings, since event services follow different rules that may allow IGST billing.
We are constructing our own office building in Puzhuthivakkam. Can we claim ITC on the materials and contractor bills?
No. Section 17(5)(c) and (d) block credit on works contract services and on goods or services used for construction of immovable property on your own account, even when the building is used for business. The exception is plant and machinery, which covers apparatus and equipment fixed to earth by foundation or structural support, but expressly excludes land, buildings, telecom towers and pipelines laid outside the factory. Note that the Finance Act 2025 retrospectively substituted the phrase plant or machinery with plant and machinery from 1 July 2017, neutralising the wider reading taken in the Safari Retreats ruling. Structure your capitalisation records to separate plant from civil work.
What is the GST rate on a works contract for a commercial building?
Under GST, a works contract relating to immovable property is treated wholly as a supply of services, and the standard rate is 18 percent on the contract value, with the contractor eligible for input tax credit on cement, steel and other inputs. This applies to construction, fabrication, erection, repair and renovation contracts for factories, offices and commercial buildings. The old VAT-plus-service-tax splitting of material and labour is gone; one rate applies to the whole consideration. Contractors should also note that free-issue materials supplied by the client can affect valuation, so contract drafting deserves attention before quoting.
When can goods move on a delivery challan instead of a tax invoice?
Rule 55 permits movement on a delivery challan where the transportation is not itself a supply: sending inputs or capital goods for job work, taking goods to an exhibition or for approval where the sale is not yet certain, supplying liquid gas where the quantity is unknown at removal, and moving goods in semi-knocked-down form in multiple consignments, where the full invoice travels with the first lot. The challan is prepared in triplicate and an e-way bill is still required where value thresholds are crossed. Goods sent on approval must be invoiced within six months, failing which tax becomes payable.
Can one document cover both taxable and exempt items sold together?
Yes, in one specific situation. Rule 46A permits a registered person supplying both taxable and exempt goods or services to an unregistered recipient to issue a single invoice-cum-bill of supply covering the entire transaction. This saves retail counters from splitting every mixed basket into two documents. The concession applies only when the buyer is unregistered; for a registered buyer, you must still issue a tax invoice for the taxable items and a separate bill of supply for the exempt items. Supermarkets and pharmacies with mixed inventories use this format daily, and billing software handles the split automatically once configured.
Something is malfunctioning on the GST portal. How do I raise a formal grievance ticket?
Use the GST Self-Service Grievance Redressal Portal at selfservice.gstsystem.in. Select Report Issue, type a keyword describing the problem, and the system suggests the matching category along with FAQs; if those do not resolve it, proceed to raise the ticket by entering your GSTIN or ARN, contact details and a description, and attach screenshots of the error. A ticket reference number is issued instantly by email and SMS. Raising a ticket also creates a record that the failure was on the system side, which helps later if a deadline was missed because of a portal outage. Our Puzhuthivakkam office logs tickets for clients as part of retainer support.
Why is my e-way bill generation blocked on the portal?
Under Rule 138E, the e-way bill facility is blocked when a taxpayer has not filed GSTR-3B (or CMP-08 for composition dealers) for two or more consecutive tax periods. Since an e-way bill is mandatory for moving goods worth more than Rs.50,000, blocking effectively halts dispatches. The remedy is straightforward: file the pending returns with late fee and interest, after which the facility unblocks automatically, usually the next day. Transporters and suppliers can also be affected when a counterparty GSTIN is blocked. We clear return backlogs for businesses in Puzhuthivakkam on priority; call +91 - 9600 606 444.
Our security agency does not charge GST on its bills. Is that correct?
Quite possibly, yes. Since 1 January 2019, security services meaning supply of security personnel, when provided by any person other than a body corporate to a registered person, fall under reverse charge, so the agency correctly bills without tax and you pay 18 percent through GSTR-3B in cash, claiming ITC. If your security agency is a private limited company, however, RCM does not apply and it must charge GST on its invoice under forward charge. Composition taxpayers as recipients are excluded from this entry. Confirm the agency's constitution from its PAN, because paying under the wrong mechanism creates trouble for both sides.
How do I file Form PMT-09 to move money between heads in my cash ledger?
Log in and open Services, then Ledgers, then Electronic Cash Ledger, and select File GST PMT-09 for transfer of amount. The screen shows your balance under each major and minor head. Choose the transfer-from head and amount, choose the transfer-to head, add the details to the table, preview and file with DSC or EVC. The transfer reflects in the ledger immediately and an ARN is generated for your records. There is no limit on how often PMT-09 can be filed, and no government fee applies, so it is always the first fix for a wrong-head deposit.
What documents are required for GSTR-1 & GSTR-3B monthly filing in Puzhuthivakkam?
For GSTR-1 & GSTR-3B monthly filing you will generally need: Sales invoices or sales register for the month, Purchase invoices or purchase register, Credit notes and debit notes issued during the month, GST portal login credentials, Bank statement for the period, if reconciliation is needed. The exact list depends on your constitution — proprietorship, partnership, LLP or company — and on the specifics of your case. Send what you have on WhatsApp to +91 - 9600 606 444 and we will confirm within the same working day exactly what else is needed, so nothing is rejected later for a missing paper.
Which GST office handles Puzhuthivakkam businesses?
Businesses in Puzhuthivakkam (PIN 600091) generally fall under the CGST Chennai South Commissionerate, with state-jurisdiction cases handled by the Tamil Nadu Commercial Taxes Department. Your exact division and range can be confirmed from your GSTIN on the GST portal. We regularly appear before this jurisdiction for registrations, clarifications and hearings, so we know the local practice and documentation preferences.
How long does GSTR-1 & GSTR-3B monthly filing take in Puzhuthivakkam?
Filed before the 11th and 20th of every month. That assumes your documents are complete and there is no departmental query. We start the same day we receive your papers and tell you the realistic completion date upfront rather than an optimistic one. Where the GST portal or the officer causes delay — clarifications, physical verification or system issues — we track it daily and keep you informed on WhatsApp.
