Trade Profile and GST Jurisdiction for 1st Cross Street, Saligramam

Saligramam is Chennai's post-production quarter, home to Prasad Studios on Arunachalam Road, with dubbing suites, freelance editors and media technicians spread through Shanthi Nagar and along Arcot Road. Freelancers who cross the Rs.20 lakh service threshold applicable in Tamil Nadu must register, and many discover it late; delayed registration and back-dated liability are this area's typical GST issues. From a first registration to the annual return, the full range of New GST Registration is available to Saligramam businesses without stepping far from the shop or office — documents travel over WhatsApp, and our Chennai premises are open to anyone who prefers a face-to-face discussion. We serve Vadapalani and Virugambakkam on the same footing, applying one rule everywhere: reconcile before filing, file before the due date, and keep the client informed at every stage.

GST jurisdiction for Saligramam (PIN 600093): businesses here generally fall under the CGST Chennai South Commissionerate. We regularly represent clients from Saligramam before this jurisdiction for registrations, clarifications and notice hearings, and can confirm your exact division and range from your GSTIN. State-jurisdiction cases are handled with the Tamil Nadu Commercial Taxes Department.
GST for Builders and Contractors in Saligramam
Under-construction residential sales are taxed at 1 percent for affordable housing and 5 percent for other units, both without input credit, while commercial works contracts run at 18 percent with credit. Builders must procure at least 80 percent of inputs and input services from registered suppliers each year; any shortfall attracts tax under reverse charge, and cement bought from unregistered dealers is taxed under reverse charge at its full rate regardless of the shortfall test. Development rights and joint development agreements carry their own liability trigger points. A specialist runs the 80-20 computation annually and tracks reverse charge on cement and landowner area sharing so project costing stays accurate.
Yes, small businesses in Saligramam can use professional New GST Registration affordably — fees start at Rs.1,499, which is usually far less than one period of late fees and lost input tax credit.
Why Us

Why 1st Cross Street, Saligramam Businesses Choose ChennaiGST

Not a bulk-filing portal. A senior consultant knows your file, your jurisdiction and your deadlines.

Transparent, Fixed Fees Quoted Upfront

You are told the full fee before we begin, in writing. No surprise additions for uploads, revisions or acknowledgements. Government fees and taxes, where applicable, are shown separately, so businesses in Saligramam always know exactly what the engagement costs them.

Zero Tolerance for Late Fees and Interest

GSTR-3B late fees run at Rs.50 per day and interest at 18 percent per annum on unpaid tax. Our internal cut-offs sit days ahead of statutory due dates precisely so that our clients never hand the department a rupee they did not owe.

Deadline Tracking Done for You

GSTR-1 by the 11th, GSTR-3B by the 20th, CMP-08 by the 18th after each quarter — we maintain a compliance calendar for every client and start chasing your data well before the due date, so late fees never enter the picture.

E-Invoice and E-Way Bill Fluency

E-invoicing is mandatory once turnover crosses Rs.5 crore and e-way bills apply to goods movements above Rs.50,000. We set up, train and troubleshoot both systems, so your despatches from Saligramam are never held up by a compliance gap at the gate.

Support Through Audits and Hearings

When an ADT-01 audit intimation or a personal hearing date arrives, we compile the records, prepare the reconciliations and draft the submissions, and coordinate closely with your authorised representative. You walk into the proceeding prepared, not improvising in front of an officer.

Familiar with Chennai Jurisdictions and Officers' Expectations

We work with Chennai GST ranges and circles every week, including the jurisdiction covering Saligramam. We know how local proper officers examine registrations, what supporting documents they routinely call for, and how to present a file so it moves without repeated queries.

How It Works

Our GST Registration Process

Document collection

You share PAN, Aadhaar, photographs, address proof and bank details over WhatsApp or email. We review each document against portal requirements and flag anything that could trigger an officer query.

Application preparation

We draft Form GST REG-01 with the correct business constitution, principal place of business, HSN or SAC codes and authorised signatory details, then share a summary for your confirmation.

Filing and Aadhaar authentication

The application is filed on the GST portal and we guide the authorised signatory through Aadhaar OTP authentication, which speeds up approval and usually avoids physical verification of premises.

Query handling

We track the ARN daily. If the officer issues a notice in Form REG-03 seeking clarification, we draft and file the reply in Form REG-04 within the permitted time.

GSTIN delivery and handover

Once approved, we download your registration certificate in Form REG-06, help set up portal login credentials, and brief you on invoice format, return due dates and e-way bill obligations.

Outcomes

What You Get

Practical outcomes our clients measure us by.

Due-Diligence Ready for Investors and Buyers

Funding rounds, partnerships and business sales all begin with a compliance check. A clean, documented GST history lets you clear that scrutiny quickly instead of watching a deal stall over old filing gaps.

Fewer Departmental Notices

Consistent, reconciled returns give the department's matching systems nothing to flag. Clients who move to us after years of self-filing typically see scrutiny queries and mismatch notices fall away within a few filing cycles.

TDS and TCS Credits Converted to Cash

Amounts deducted by government buyers as GST TDS and by marketplaces as TCS are accepted on the portal each period, so money withheld against your GSTIN actually reaches your cash ledger instead of lying unclaimed.

No More Late Fees

With returns filed ahead of the statutory due dates every period, the Rs.50-per-day GSTR-3B late fee simply stops appearing in your life, and the money stays in your business where it belongs.

Clarity on What You Actually Owe

Each period you receive a simple computation showing output tax, credit utilised and net cash payable, so GST becomes a number you understand and question rather than a figure you accept blindly.

Peace of Mind Around Due Dates

The 11th and the 20th stop being days of dread. You approve a prepared draft, we file, and the acknowledgement lands on your WhatsApp — month after month, without drama.

Why a Specialist Matters

With ChennaiGST vs Doing It Yourself

AspectWith ChennaiGSTDIY / Unattended
When a notice arrivesA professional drafts the reply in the department's format and files it within the statutory window, such as thirty days for ASMT-11.You face departmental language alone, and a missed reply deadline can convert a simple query into a demand with penalty.
Refund claimsRFD-01 filed with complete statements and annexures, tracked from ARN to bank credit, with any deficiency memo answered promptly.Incomplete claims bounce back as deficiency memos while the refund sits unclaimed for months and working capital stays blocked.
Keeping up with changesRate changes, portal updates and new thresholds such as the Rs.5 crore e-invoice limit are tracked by us and applied to your case proactively.Changes are discovered after the fact — often through a rejected filing, a blocked e-way bill or a departmental letter.
Goods in transitE-way bills generated correctly and matched to invoices, so consignments pass roadside inspections without detention or penalty.A defective or missing e-way bill can mean detention at a checkpoint, with penalties that dwarf the tax on the consignment.
Supplier defaultsSuppliers who stop uploading invoices are identified within the period and pursued before their default becomes your blocked credit.Missing supplier invoices surface only when credit is denied, by which time recovering the amount from the vendor is difficult.
Portal credentials and dataLogins handled by a small engaged team under strict confidentiality, with credentials stored securely and never passed onward.Passwords circulating on chats with freelancers and part-timers, and no accountability for who has accessed your business data.

GST Support on 1st Cross Street, Saligramam

1st Cross Street is a residential street in Saligramam, about 450 m north of the centre of Saligramam. The same consultant covers the streets immediately around it — 2nd Cross Street (about 50 m); 2nd Street Ext (about 150 m); Dasarathapuram Main Road (about 250 m); 1st Cross (about 300 m) — so a site visit on 1st Cross Street can usually be combined with other work in Saligramam on the same trip. For GST purposes an address on 1st Cross Street falls under the Chennai South CGST Commissionerate, and the Saligramam pincode is 600093.

Case Law & Notifications

What the Department and the Courts Have Said — relevant to Saligramam businesses

We track every notification, circular and judgment that changes a filing position, so your returns and replies reflect the current law.

Notification

Gold, silver, diamonds and jewellery rates left untouched by GST 2.0

Notification No. 9/2025-Central Tax (Rate), dated 17 September 2025, Schedules IV, V and VI · 2025-09-17

Schedule IV at 1.5 per cent central tax, that is three per cent combined, covers pearls, silver, gold, platinum, base metals clad with precious metal, articles of jewellery, goldsmiths' and silversmiths' wares, imitation jewellery and coin. Schedule V at 0.125 per cent, that is 0.25 per cent combined, covers rough or simply sawn diamonds and unworked precious and semi-precious stones. Schedule VI at 0.75 per cent, that is 1.5 per cent combined, covers cut and polished diamonds and worked synthetic stones.

What it means for you: Jewellers in Chennai continue to charge three per cent on ornaments, with the separate making charge taxed as a service, so no repricing was needed in September 2025.

AAR Ruling

Club membership and admission fees held not to be consideration for any supply

Rotary Club of Mumbai Queens Necklace — AAAR Maharashtra (2019), on appeal from AAR Maharashtra, Advance Ruling No. GST-ARA-118/2018-19 · 2019

The club collected membership subscriptions and admission fees which were spent on meetings, administration and communication, with no facility or benefit supplied to members in return. The Maharashtra Appellate Authority for Advance Ruling held that the collections merely defray shared expenses, that there is no supply of goods or services to members, and that the amounts are therefore not consideration liable to tax.

What to do about it: Chennai associations should note that Section 7(1)(aa), inserted with retrospective effect from 1 July 2017, now treats club to member supplies as taxable, so this reasoning no longer holds.

Circular

Service exemption clarifications following the 52nd Council

Circular No. 206/18/2023-GST · 2023-10-31

The Board answered a set of service taxability questions arising from the 52nd GST Council meeting. Among them, it confirmed that District Mineral Foundation Trusts set up by State Governments qualify as Governmental Authorities and are therefore eligible for the exemptions available to such authorities. Other classification and exemption questions on specified services were also settled, so that field formations across States adopt a uniform view rather than issuing conflicting demands.

Why this matters: Contractors in Tamil Nadu working for statutory trusts and authorities should verify the exemption position against this circular before quoting a GST-inclusive price.

FAQs

Frequently Asked Questions

Straight answers from practising GST consultants — based on the CGST Act, current CBIC notifications and day-to-day portal experience.

What is the process for new GST registration?
The process runs in clear stages: Document collection; Application preparation; Filing and Aadhaar authentication; Query handling. A senior consultant reviews your file at each stage rather than passing it to a data-entry desk, and you receive a confirmation with the filed documents once it is complete. You always know which stage your work is at — we update you on WhatsApp instead of leaving you to follow up.
Do you provide new gst registration for small businesses and proprietorships in Saligramam?
Yes. A large share of our clients in Saligramam are proprietors, small traders, shop owners, freelancers and family businesses rather than large companies. The fee of Rs.1,499 and the process are the same regardless of size, and we explain the compliance position in plain language — in Tamil or English — so you understand what is being filed on your behalf and why.
Do partnership firms and private limited companies need different documents for GST?
Yes, the constitution documents differ. A partnership firm submits the partnership deed, the firm's PAN, and PAN, Aadhaar and photographs of all partners, with one partner named as authorised signatory through an authorisation letter. A private limited company submits its Certificate of Incorporation, company PAN, board resolution appointing the authorised signatory, and PAN, Aadhaar and photographs of directors; the company must sign the application with a DSC. Premises proof and bank details requirements are the same for all constitutions. An LLP follows the company pattern using its incorporation certificate and designated partner details.
My turnover just crossed the GST limit. How much time do I have to register?
You must apply for registration within thirty days of becoming liable, that is, within thirty days of the date your aggregate turnover crossed Rs.40 lakh for goods or Rs.20 lakh for services in Tamil Nadu. Registering late has consequences: tax becomes payable from the date liability arose, you cannot recover that GST from past customers, input credit for the unregistered gap is largely lost, and a penalty of Rs.10,000 or the tax evaded, whichever is higher, can apply. If your books show you crossed the limit recently, act now; our Saligramam office can file within a day. Call +91 - 9600 606 444.
I am below the GST threshold, but I pay freight under RCM heads. Must I register?
Section 24(iii) makes registration compulsory for persons required to pay tax under reverse charge, without any threshold benefit. So if you receive notified supplies such as GTA freight, advocate services or sponsorship, liability to register can arise even with modest turnover. Note, though, that where the relevant RCM entry itself exempts supplies made to unregistered recipients, no liability arises until you are otherwise registered. Composition dealers get no relief once registered: they must pay RCM at the full normal rates in cash and cannot claim any credit, making RCM a pure cost for them. Have your expense heads reviewed before assuming you are safe; call +91 - 9600 606 444.
I received a clarification notice on my GST application. What should I do?
The officer has issued Form REG-03 seeking clarification, additional documents or corrections, commonly for address proof mismatches or unclear photographs. You must respond in Form REG-04 through the portal within seven working days of the notice, attaching the corrected documents and a clear written explanation. If the reply satisfies the officer, registration is approved; if you fail to reply or the reply is inadequate, the application is rejected in Form REG-05 and you must apply afresh. Many applicants in Saligramam come to us at exactly this stage; a precise, document-backed REG-04 usually resolves it. Call +91 - 9600 606 444 for help.
I just received my GSTIN. What returns do I need to start filing?
From your first tax period, a regular taxpayer files GSTR-1, the outward supplies statement, by the 11th of the following month, and GSTR-3B, the summary return with tax payment, by the 20th. If your expected turnover is up to Rs.5 crore, you can opt for the QRMP scheme: returns become quarterly, GSTR-3B is due by the 22nd of the month after the quarter for Tamil Nadu, monthly tax is paid by challan, and the optional IFF by the 13th lets you pass credit to buyers monthly. Returns are mandatory even for nil turnover; the nil late fee is Rs.20 per day. Call +91 - 9600 606 444 and we will set up your filing calendar.
I sell only loose, unbranded grains and fresh vegetables. Do I need GST registration at all?
No. Under Section 23 of the CGST Act, a person engaged exclusively in supplying goods that are wholly exempt from tax is not liable to register, regardless of turnover. A trader in Saligramam dealing only in loose cereals, pulses sold unpackaged, fresh fruits and vegetables therefore stays outside GST entirely. The position changes the day you add even one taxable line, such as pre-packaged branded packs, edible oil or packaged snacks; from then on the normal threshold rules apply to your aggregate turnover, which counts the exempt sales too. Review your product mix once a year, or call +91 - 9600 606 444 for a quick applicability check.
If my GST practitioner files a wrong return, who is responsible for it?
You are. The law is explicit that where a statement or return is furnished by an authorised GST practitioner, the responsibility for the correctness of the particulars remains with the registered person. The portal reinforces this: when a GSTP prepares a return, a confirmation is sought from you by email and SMS before it is treated as your filing, and for some filings your own EVC or DSC completes the submission. So review every draft before approving, and keep the workings the practitioner used. Choose someone who shares acknowledgements and reconciliations unprompted; that habit, more than any certificate, protects your business.
Can I issue a single credit note against several invoices?
Yes. Since the amendment to Section 34 by the CGST (Amendment) Act, 2018, effective 1 February 2019, the law permits one or more credit notes to be issued against one or more tax invoices of a financial year. A distributor giving a season-end adjustment to a retailer can therefore issue one consolidated credit note covering dozens of invoices, rather than one note per bill. When reporting it in GSTR-1, the portal accepts credit notes without invoice-wise linking for this reason. Maintain a working annexed to the credit note listing the invoices covered, because in scrutiny the officer will ask you to establish the linkage and the arithmetic.
What documents do I need to give my GST consultant every month?
For monthly returns you need your sales invoices (or a sales register), purchase invoices, credit and debit notes, details of advances received for services, and any export or SEZ supply documents. If you use accounting software, an exported sales and purchase summary is enough. We then match your purchases against GSTR-2B on the portal before claiming input tax credit. Most clients in Saligramam simply share their data on WhatsApp or email by the 5th of each month and we handle the rest. Call +91 - 9600 606 444 to set up a simple monthly routine.
What is the difference between ISD and cross-charge, and when is each used?
They solve different problems. The Input Service Distributor mechanism distributes credit on third-party input services received at the head office but consumed by branches, such as an audit fee or software licence billed centrally; the ISD passes the credit itself through ISD invoices and GSTR-6, without charging tax again. Cross-charge applies where the head office performs a service for branches using its own resources; here the head office makes an outward supply, issues a tax invoice with tax, and the branch claims ITC. With ISD distribution mandatory for common third-party input services from 1 April 2025, businesses must now run both mechanisms side by side, each for its correct category.
Are any goods exempt from GST when transported by a GTA?
Yes. Transport by a GTA of agricultural produce, milk, salt and foodgrains including flours and pulses, organic manure, newspapers and magazines registered with the Registrar of Newspapers, relief materials for victims of calamities, and defence or military equipment is exempt regardless of freight value. Note that the older exemptions for small consignments, Rs.1,500 for a full truckload and Rs.750 for a single consignee, were withdrawn with effect from 18 July 2022, so ordinary cargo enjoys no value-based relief now. Transporters serving agricultural markets should describe the produce accurately on the consignment note to support the exemption.
Is GST still charged on life and health insurance premiums?
No. With effect from 22 September 2025, premiums on all individual life insurance policies, including term plans, endowment plans and ULIPs, and all individual health insurance policies, including family floater and senior citizen plans, are exempt from GST. Reinsurance of these policies is also exempt. Earlier these premiums bore 18 percent tax. Note that the exemption applies to policies taken by individuals; certain group covers procured by businesses can still attract GST, and insurers can no longer claim input credit attributable to exempt policies. Policyholders should see the benefit directly in renewal notices.
How do I round off tax amounts on a GST invoice?
Section 170 of the CGST Act prescribes normal rounding to the nearest rupee: where the tax contains a part of a rupee, fifty paise or more is rounded up to one rupee, and less than fifty paise is ignored. The rounding is applied to the tax amount on each invoice, separately for each tax head, so CGST and SGST are each rounded individually rather than rounding only the invoice total. Most billing software handles this automatically, but spreadsheets and manual bills often round the grand total instead, creating one-rupee mismatches that clutter reconciliations across thousands of invoices.
What are OIDAR services under GST and who pays the tax on them?
OIDAR means Online Information Database Access or Retrieval services, delivered over the internet, such as cloud services, e-books, streaming, online advertising and automated e-learning. When a foreign OIDAR provider supplies these to unregistered persons in India, the foreign provider itself must take a simplified registration in Form REG-10 and file monthly return GSTR-5A. From 1 October 2023, the definition was widened, so almost every unregistered Indian recipient is covered. When the Indian recipient is GST-registered, the tax instead falls on the recipient under reverse charge as an import of services.
What is self-invoicing under RCM and is there a time limit for it?
When you receive supplies liable to reverse charge from an unregistered supplier, Section 31(3)(f) requires you, the recipient, to issue an invoice on yourself, because the supplier cannot issue a tax invoice. You must also issue a payment voucher when paying the supplier. From 1 November 2024, Rule 47A prescribes a firm deadline: the self-invoice must be issued within thirty days of receiving the supply. This document is not a formality; the time limit for claiming the RCM credit is reckoned from the self-invoice, and its absence can cost you the credit besides inviting penalty. Maintain a monthly self-invoice series covering rent, freight, legal fees and similar unregistered-supplier heads.
Can my GST registration be cancelled for not filing returns?
Yes. Under Rule 21A, the department can suspend a GSTIN where returns are not filed for a continuous period, and Section 29 permits cancellation where a regular taxpayer has not filed returns for six months (two quarters for QRMP, and a composition taxpayer defaulting on the annual return beyond three months). During suspension you cannot issue tax invoices or file returns, which freezes the business. If cancellation happens, revocation must be sought through REG-21 within 90 days after clearing all dues. If you have received a suspension notice in Saligramam, call +91 - 9600 606 444 immediately.
Can I get new GST registration done online without visiting the office?
Yes, the entire process can be handled online. You share scanned documents on WhatsApp or email, we prepare and file everything on the GST portal, and you receive the acknowledgement and filed copies digitally. Businesses in Saligramam regularly complete GST registration with us without a single office visit. If a physical verification or personal hearing is required by the department, we guide you through it.
What documents are required for new GST registration in Saligramam?
For new GST registration you will generally need: PAN card of the proprietor, firm or company, Aadhaar card of proprietor, partners or directors, Passport-size photograph of proprietor, partners or directors, Business address proof such as electricity bill or property tax receipt, Rent agreement and owner NOC if premises are rented. The exact list depends on your constitution — proprietorship, partnership, LLP or company — and on the specifics of your case. Send what you have on WhatsApp to +91 - 9600 606 444 and we will confirm within the same working day exactly what else is needed, so nothing is rejected later for a missing paper.
How much does new GST registration cost in Saligramam?
Our fee for new GST registration in Saligramam starts at Rs.1,499 and is quoted in full before we begin — there are no hidden charges added later. The fee covers professional work end to end: document review, preparation, filing and follow-up until completion. Government fees or portal charges, where applicable, are separate and always shown to you upfront. For an exact quote based on your turnover and business type, call +91 - 9600 606 444 and a consultant will confirm it on the call.
