Trade Profile and GST Jurisdiction for Saligramam

If you operate in Saligramam, GST deadlines arrive with the same force as anywhere in Chennai — GSTR-1 by the 11th, GSTR-3B by the 20th. Saligramam is Chennai's post-production quarter, home to Prasad Studios on Arunachalam Road, with dubbing suites, freelance editors and media technicians spread through Shanthi Nagar and along Arcot Road. Freelancers who cross the Rs.20 lakh service threshold applicable in Tamil Nadu must register, and many discover it late; delayed registration and back-dated liability are this area's typical GST issues. We provide ITC Reconciliation 2B vs Books to businesses across Saligramam and the adjoining Vadapalani and Virugambakkam localities, maintaining a compliance calendar for every client so due dates are met without last-minute panic, late fees or interest at 18 percent per annum.

GST jurisdiction for Saligramam (PIN 600093): businesses here generally fall under the CGST Chennai South Commissionerate. We regularly represent clients from Saligramam before this jurisdiction for registrations, clarifications and notice hearings, and can confirm your exact division and range from your GSTIN. State-jurisdiction cases are handled with the Tamil Nadu Commercial Taxes Department.
GST Compliance for Retail Shops in Saligramam
A retail counter bills hundreds of small consumer sales a day, and GST treats them very differently from B2B trade. B2C turnover goes into GSTR-1 as consolidated rate-wise figures, exempt goods need a bill of supply instead of a tax invoice, and a mixed basket of taxable and exempt stock forces proportionate credit reversal under Rule 42. Departments now compare UPI and card settlements against declared turnover, so daily sales must reconcile with bank inflows. A specialist sets up your billing software with a verified HSN and rate master, evaluates the one percent composition option against regular filing, and keeps declared figures consistent before any mismatch query arrives.
You can move your ITC Reconciliation 2B vs Books to a new consultant in Saligramam at any time mid-year; past filings are reviewed, pending items are regularised, and ongoing fees start at Rs.1,499.
Why Us

Why Saligramam Businesses Choose ChennaiGST

Not a bulk-filing portal. A senior consultant knows your file, your jurisdiction and your deadlines.

✓

Ledger Housekeeping on the Portal

Your cash ledger, credit ledger and liability register are reviewed regularly, not just at filing time. Excess balances are flagged for use or refund, and where a genuine slip surfaces, a voluntary payment through DRC-03 settles it before it can mature into a notice.

✓

We Work with Your Existing Software

Tally, Zoho Books, Busy, marketplace reports, plain Excel or even a handwritten bill book — we take your data in whatever form your Saligramam business already maintains it. You are never forced to buy new software or retrain staff just to become our client.

✓

E-Invoice and E-Way Bill Fluency

E-invoicing is mandatory once turnover crosses Rs.5 crore and e-way bills apply to goods movements above Rs.50,000. We set up, train and troubleshoot both systems, so your despatches from Saligramam are never held up by a compliance gap at the gate.

✓

Familiar with Chennai Jurisdictions and Officers' Expectations

We work with Chennai GST ranges and circles every week, including the jurisdiction covering Saligramam. We know how local proper officers examine registrations, what supporting documents they routinely call for, and how to present a file so it moves without repeated queries.

✓

Experience Across Trades and Sectors

Traders, manufacturers, contractors, e-commerce sellers, professionals and service exporters — we have handled GST for all of them. Whatever mix of goods and services your Saligramam business supplies, the rate, classification and place-of-supply questions have almost certainly crossed our desk before.

✓

Free Health Check of Your Past Filings

Every new client receives a review of their recent returns before we file anything — unclaimed credit, GSTR-1 versus GSTR-3B drift, and exposures worth correcting quietly. Businesses in Saligramam often discover in this first review exactly why their previous arrangement was costing them money.

How It Works

Our ITC Reconciliation Process

Data intake

Each month we take your purchase register in any format and download the auto-drafted GSTR-2B for the same period from the portal.

Invoice-level matching

Every invoice is matched on GSTIN, invoice number, date and tax amount, with tolerance logic that catches rounding and date-shift cases without false mismatches.

Mismatch analysis

Unmatched items are classified as supplier not filed, wrong GSTIN quoted, value differences or duplicates, so each category gets the correct corrective action.

Supplier follow-up

We prepare a defaulter list with amounts at stake and ready-to-send follow-up messages, helping you recover credit before it lapses at the November deadline.

Eligible credit certification

A final eligible ITC statement with reversals under Rules 37, 42 and 43 considered is delivered before the 20th, ready for direct use in GSTR-3B.

Outcomes

What You Get

Practical outcomes our clients measure us by.

★

The Lowest Tax Position the Law Allows

Your scheme choice — regular, composition or QRMP — is re-examined as turnover and margins change, so you are always paying under the structure that legitimately costs your business the least.

★

A Clean GSTIN That Stays Active

Continuous filing protects you from the suspension and cancellation proceedings that hit chronic non-filers, so your registration, e-way bill access and ability to issue tax invoices are never suddenly cut off.

★

Reduced Dependence on One Employee

When GST knowledge lives inside a single staff member, their resignation becomes a compliance crisis. With our firm as the standing process, your filings continue uninterrupted regardless of internal staff changes.

★

Goods That Move Without Detention

Correct e-way bills matched to correct invoices mean your consignments clear roadside inspections cleanly, avoiding detention proceedings whose penalties can far exceed the tax on the goods being carried.

★

Lower Total Cost of Compliance

A fixed professional fee is almost always cheaper than the combination of late fees, interest, lost credit and staff hours that informal, last-minute compliance quietly accumulates over a year.

★

A Professional Face on Every Invoice

Correct, complete tax invoices signal a well-run business to customers, vendors and banks alike, quietly strengthening your credibility in every transaction where your paperwork is seen.

Why a Specialist Matters

With ChennaiGST vs Doing It Yourself

AspectWith ChennaiGSTDIY / Unattended
Refund claimsRFD-01 filed with complete statements and annexures, tracked from ARN to bank credit, with any deficiency memo answered promptly.Incomplete claims bounce back as deficiency memos while the refund sits unclaimed for months and working capital stays blocked.
Risk of noticesGSTR-1, GSTR-3B and GSTR-2B reconciled before filing, removing the mismatches that trigger most scrutiny notices.Inconsistent figures across returns quietly build a mismatch history that surfaces later as ASMT-10 scrutiny or a demand notice.
Portal credentials and dataLogins handled by a small engaged team under strict confidentiality, with credentials stored securely and never passed onward.Passwords circulating on chats with freelancers and part-timers, and no accountability for who has accessed your business data.
Goods in transitE-way bills generated correctly and matched to invoices, so consignments pass roadside inspections without detention or penalty.A defective or missing e-way bill can mean detention at a checkpoint, with penalties that dwarf the tax on the consignment.
Input tax creditPurchase register matched against GSTR-2B each period, with defaulting suppliers chased so eligible credit is actually captured.Credit claimed from books alone; mismatches with GSTR-2B mean lost credit or excess claims that invite departmental queries.
When a notice arrivesA professional drafts the reply in the department's format and files it within the statutory window, such as thirty days for ASMT-11.You face departmental language alone, and a missed reply deadline can convert a simple query into a demand with penalty.

GST Developments Worth Knowing — relevant to Saligramam businesses

A working knowledge of recent instruments and judgments is what separates a defensible filing from a risky one.

Case Law

Transitional credit is a vested right; TRAN-1 timeline treated as directory

Siddharth Enterprises v. Nodal Officer — Gujarat High Court, judgment dated 6 September 2019, reported at 2019 (29) GSTL 664 (Guj.) · 2019-09-06

Taxpayers who missed the TRAN-1 deadline because of technical and procedural difficulties were denied transitional credit of pre-GST taxes. The High Court held that credit earned under the earlier laws is a vested right and property, and cannot be taken away merely by a procedural time limit in Rule 117. The time limit was read as directory rather than mandatory, and the department was directed to permit filing or revision of TRAN-1.

How we apply it: Procedural deadlines are read less strictly where a substantive right to credit is at stake — a principle still cited in credit disputes today.

AAR Ruling

No second levy of IGST when goods leave a Free Trade Warehousing Zone

The Bank of Nova Scotia - AAR Tamil Nadu, Order No. TN/23/AAR/2018, dated 31 December 2018 · 2018-12-31

The bank imported goods and stored them in a Free Trade Warehousing Zone before they were cleared. It asked whether integrated tax was payable again when the goods were removed from the zone to the domestic tariff area, over and above the tax collected at the time of customs clearance. The Authority, following Circular No. 3/1/2018-IGST dated 25 May 2018, held that the applicant is not liable to pay IGST at the time of removal, the levy arising once at clearance for home consumption.

How we apply it: Chennai importers using FTWZ facilities pay IGST once at clearance and should resist any demand for a second levy on removal.

Notification

Handicrafts re-notified at 5 per cent, with silver filigree and imitation jewellery at 3 per cent

Notification No. 13/2025-Central Tax (Rate), dated 17 September 2025 · 2025-09-17

This notification replaces the entire table in the 2018 handicrafts notification with a fresh list of about thirty-nine entries from 22 September 2025. Most items carry central tax of 2.5 per cent, that is five per cent combined: handcrafted candles, carved and inlaid wood products, wooden frames, art ware of cork and sholapith, vegetable-fibre mats and basketwork, handmade paper, papier mache articles, coir goods, handmade carpets, stone carving, ceramic and glass art ware, brass and copper art ware, wooden toys, hand paintings and original sculptures. Silver filigree work and handmade imitation jewellery, including jewellery of natural seeds and beads, carry 1.5 per cent central tax, that is three per cent combined.

How we apply it: Handicraft retailers in Chennai charge five per cent on the general run of handicraft goods, but must apply three per cent to silver filigree work and handmade imitation jewellery.

FAQs

Frequently Asked Questions

Straight answers from practising GST consultants — based on the CGST Act, current CBIC notifications and day-to-day portal experience.

Do you provide itc reconciliation for small businesses and proprietorships in Saligramam?
Yes. A large share of our clients in Saligramam are proprietors, small traders, shop owners, freelancers and family businesses rather than large companies. The fee of Rs.1,499/month and the process are the same regardless of size, and we explain the compliance position in plain language — in Tamil or English — so you understand what is being filed on your behalf and why.
Can I get ITC reconciliation 2B vs books done online without visiting the office?
Yes, the entire process can be handled online. You share scanned documents on WhatsApp or email, we prepare and file everything on the GST portal, and you receive the acknowledgement and filed copies digitally. Businesses in Saligramam regularly complete ITC reconciliation with us without a single office visit. If a physical verification or personal hearing is required by the department, we guide you through it.
We are constructing our own office building in Saligramam. Can we claim ITC on the materials and contractor bills?
No. Section 17(5)(c) and (d) block credit on works contract services and on goods or services used for construction of immovable property on your own account, even when the building is used for business. The exception is plant and machinery, which covers apparatus and equipment fixed to earth by foundation or structural support, but expressly excludes land, buildings, telecom towers and pipelines laid outside the factory. Note that the Finance Act 2025 retrospectively substituted the phrase plant or machinery with plant and machinery from 1 July 2017, neutralising the wider reading taken in the Safari Retreats ruling. Structure your capitalisation records to separate plant from civil work.
My supplier has not uploaded an invoice and it is missing from GSTR-2B. Can I still claim the ITC?
No, not until it appears. Since 1 January 2022, Section 16(2)(aa) permits ITC only on invoices furnished by the supplier in GSTR-1 and communicated to you in GSTR-2B; the earlier provisional credit tolerance is gone. Claiming credit on a missing invoice invites a Rule 88D intimation and reversal with interest at 18 percent. The practical remedy is vendor follow-up: withhold the tax portion of payment until the supplier uploads, and claim the credit in the month it appears in GSTR-2B, subject to the overall time limit of 30 November following the financial year. Vendor discipline clauses in purchase orders help enormously.
Can my company claim ITC on a car purchased for business use, and what about its insurance and repairs?
Generally no. Section 17(5)(a) blocks credit on motor vehicles for transporting persons with approved seating up to thirteen including the driver, even when used for business, unless you are in the business of further supplying such vehicles, transporting passengers, or imparting driver training. Section 17(5)(ab) extends the block to insurance, servicing and repairs of such vehicles. However, ITC is fully available on goods transport vehicles like trucks and delivery vans, and on vehicles with seating above thirteen such as staff buses. A Saligramam trading company buying a delivery van claims full credit; the director's sedan gets none. Classify each vehicle before claiming.
What counts as exempt supply when calculating my ITC reversal ratio?
Exempt supplies for Rules 42 and 43 include nil-rated and wholly exempted supplies, and by virtue of Section 17(3) also cover outward supplies on which your recipient pays tax under reverse charge, transactions in securities valued at one percent of sale value, and sale of land or completed buildings valued at stamp duty value. Importantly, interest earned on deposits, loans or advances is excluded from the exempt turnover for this computation for everyone except banking companies and financial institutions. Many businesses in Saligramam inflate their reversal by wrongly including fixed deposit interest, handing over credit the law never asked them to reverse.
We distribute free samples and run buy-one-get-one offers. How is ITC treated on these?
The two are treated very differently. Goods disposed of as gifts or free samples attract the block under Section 17(5)(h), so ITC on inputs used for genuinely free samples must be reversed. However, CBIC Circular 92/11/2019 clarifies that buy-one-get-one offers are not free supplies; they are effectively two goods sold for a single price, tax is charged on that price, and full ITC remains available. Trade discounts recorded in the invoice also do not disturb credit. Pharmaceutical distributors and FMCG dealers in Saligramam should therefore document promotional schemes carefully, because the same physical giveaway can be creditable or blocked depending on how the offer is structured.
Is ITC available on food, catering and canteen expenses for our factory staff?
Section 17(5)(b) blocks credit on food, beverages and outdoor catering, but with two useful exceptions. First, where you use catering as an input for making an outward supply of the same category, such as a caterer subcontracting another caterer, credit is allowed. Second, where providing the facility is obligatory for the employer under any law, credit is allowed; the classic case is a statutory canteen required under the Factories Act for factories employing more than 250 workers. Even then, credit is typically restricted to the cost borne by the employer, not amounts recovered from employees. Factories around Saligramam should keep the statutory obligation documented in their credit file.
What is a B2C large invoice and what is the current threshold?
A B2C large invoice is an inter-state supply to an unregistered person exceeding the notified value threshold, which was reduced from Rs.2.5 lakh to Rs.1 lakh. Such invoices must be reported individually in Table 5 of GSTR-1 with the place of supply, instead of being merged into the consolidated B2C summary. The rule helps states track high-value consumer sales flowing across borders. If your Saligramam showroom occasionally bills an unregistered customer from another state above Rs.1 lakh, your billing and returns process must flag it for invoice-wise reporting, or GSTR-1 validations and later scrutiny will surface the gap.
How will I know my scrutiny reply has been accepted by the GST officer?
If your explanation in ASMT-11 is found acceptable, the officer issues Form ASMT-12 informing you that the discrepancies stand explained and no further action is required on those points. The order appears in your Additional Notices and Orders tab on the portal. Keep the ASMT-12 safely with your reconciliation working papers, because the same period can still come up in a later audit and the closure order is your best shield. If instead the officer is not satisfied, expect a DRC-01A or show cause notice. Many Saligramam clients receive ASMT-12 within weeks when the reply is complete and well-annexed.
The portal auto-filled an interest amount in my GSTR-3B. Can I edit or dispute it?
The portal computes interest on delayed filings under Rule 88B and auto-populates it in Table 5.1 of the next period's GSTR-3B, with a break-up shown period-wise. The system value is based on your cash ledger debits and the days of delay, and while the field permits upward revision, reducing the system-computed figure will flag the return. If you believe the computation is wrong, for instance because a liability related to an earlier period was declared with correct interest already paid through DRC-03, pay what is correct and keep the working; the department can be satisfied later with the reconciliation. We verify these auto-computations for clients before every filing.
Does compensation cess still apply on any goods?
For most goods, no. With the rate restructuring of 22 September 2025, compensation cess was discontinued on items such as cars, and the demerit burden was merged into the single 40 percent rate. The cess continues only on pan masala and specified tobacco products during the transition period while past compensation cess loan obligations are being discharged. A practical point for traders: balances of unutilised compensation cess credit cannot be cross-utilised against CGST, SGST or IGST liability, so businesses holding old cess credit should evaluate their position rather than assuming it will set off future tax.
When can goods move on a delivery challan instead of a tax invoice?
Rule 55 permits movement on a delivery challan where the transportation is not itself a supply: sending inputs or capital goods for job work, taking goods to an exhibition or for approval where the sale is not yet certain, supplying liquid gas where the quantity is unknown at removal, and moving goods in semi-knocked-down form in multiple consignments, where the full invoice travels with the first lot. The challan is prepared in triplicate and an e-way bill is still required where value thresholds are crossed. Goods sent on approval must be invoiced within six months, failing which tax becomes payable.
How do I register my DSC on the GST portal, and why does the emSigner error keep appearing?
After logging in, open My Profile and select Register or Update DSC, choose the authorised signatory's PAN, and sign with the USB token; the certificate must be Class 3 and the PAN on it must match the signatory's PAN on the portal. Signing requires the emSigner utility running in the background, and the common failure to establish connection error means emSigner is not started, is blocked by the browser, or another application occupies its port. Run emSigner as administrator, keep the token connected, and use the trusted-site settings the portal recommends. We troubleshoot DSC issues for Saligramam companies routinely; call +91 - 9600 606 444.
What is the penalty for running a business without GST registration?
A taxable person who is liable to register but fails to do so faces a penalty of Rs.10,000 or the amount of tax evaded, whichever is higher, under Section 122 of the CGST Act. Beyond the penalty, the department can demand the tax for the entire unregistered period with interest at 18 percent per annum, and you cannot recover that tax from customers you billed without GST. Goods moved without registration and e-way bills, required for consignments above Rs.50,000, also risk detention. If your turnover has crossed the threshold, registering within thirty days is far cheaper than regularising later.
Can one invoice contain items taxed at different GST rates?
Yes, there is no requirement to issue separate invoices per rate. A single tax invoice can carry multiple line items, each with its own HSN code, taxable value, rate and tax amount, and the totals section simply aggregates the tax rate-wise. A hardware store in Saligramam can bill cement at 18 percent and certain tools at 5 percent on one document. What matters is that each line is classified and taxed correctly, and that mixed baskets are not collapsed into one rate. Be careful with genuine composite supplies, where one principal supply drives a single rate; that is a classification question, not an invoicing one.
What documents must I prepare for reverse charge purchases from unregistered suppliers?
Two documents are required. First, a self-invoice: Section 31(3)(f) obliges you to issue an invoice on yourself for goods or services received from an unregistered supplier on which you pay tax under reverse charge, and under Rule 47A this self-invoice must be issued within thirty days of receiving the supply. Second, a payment voucher under Rule 52 at the time of making payment to the supplier. The self-invoice is the document on which you claim the input tax credit of the reverse charge tax paid. Freight from unregistered transporters and advocate fees are typical cases where businesses miss this paperwork.
I deposited money under the wrong head in my GST cash ledger. Why can the amount not be used?
The cash ledger is divided into major heads, IGST, CGST, SGST and cess, and minor heads, tax, interest, penalty, fee and others. An amount deposited under one combination, say CGST-penalty, cannot be directly used to pay under another, say IGST-tax, which is why your balance appears unusable despite money lying in the ledger. The remedy is Form PMT-09, which transfers the amount to the correct head instantly without any officer approval. Many Saligramam taxpayers wrongly deposit a fresh challan in this situation; a two-minute PMT-09 filing saves that duplication. Call +91 - 9600 606 444 if your ledger looks stuck.
How much does ITC reconciliation 2B vs books cost in Saligramam?
Our fee for ITC reconciliation 2B vs books in Saligramam starts at Rs.1,499/month and is quoted in full before we begin — there are no hidden charges added later. The fee covers professional work end to end: document review, preparation, filing and follow-up until completion. Government fees or portal charges, where applicable, are separate and always shown to you upfront. For an exact quote based on your turnover and business type, call +91 - 9600 606 444 and a consultant will confirm it on the call.
Which GST office handles Saligramam businesses?
Businesses in Saligramam (PIN 600093) generally fall under the CGST Chennai South Commissionerate, with state-jurisdiction cases handled by the Tamil Nadu Commercial Taxes Department. Your exact division and range can be confirmed from your GSTIN on the GST portal. We regularly appear before this jurisdiction for registrations, clarifications and hearings, so we know the local practice and documentation preferences.
Are there any hidden charges for ITC reconciliation 2B vs books?
No. The fee quoted before we start is the fee you pay. Government fees, portal charges or statutory late fees, where they apply, are separate and disclosed to you in advance with the exact amount. If the scope of work changes — for example, an unexpected notice or additional periods — we tell you the revised fee before doing anything further.
