Trade Profile and GST Jurisdiction for Sundaram Smart city phase 1, Selaiyur

Selaiyur spreads east of Tambaram around the Camp Road junction, with supermarkets, bakeries, pharmacies and two-wheeler showrooms along Velachery Main Road and Agaram Main Road, and rows of student hostels serving nearby colleges such as Madras Christian College. Hostel and paying-guest operators must apply GST correctly on accommodation once receipts cross Rs.20 lakh, while family-run retailers weigh the composition scheme against regular monthly filing. GST compliance in a market like Selaiyur rewards consistency — returns that match, credits that reconcile, and records that stand up to scrutiny. Our team provides GSTR-1 & GSTR-3B Monthly Filing to businesses throughout Selaiyur and nearby Tambaram and Chitlapakkam on fixed, transparent fees. From the first document checklist to the final acknowledgement on WhatsApp, the process is structured so nothing depends on memory, luck or a due-date-evening scramble.

GST jurisdiction for Selaiyur (PIN 600073): businesses here generally fall under the CGST Chennai Outer Commissionerate. We regularly represent clients from Selaiyur before this jurisdiction for registrations, clarifications and notice hearings, and can confirm your exact division and range from your GSTIN. State-jurisdiction cases are handled with the Tamil Nadu Commercial Taxes Department.
GST for Auto Component Businesses in Selaiyur
Auto components moved to a uniform 18 percent from the earlier 28 percent slab with effect from 22 September 2025, simplifying rate disputes but tightening OEM compliance expectations. Suppliers in Selaiyur must issue e-invoices with IRNs that OEM systems validate before releasing payment, send goods for machining or plating on Rule 45 delivery challans, and report those job work movements in Form ITC-04. Parts replaced free of charge under warranty attract no further GST because tax was collected on the original composite price, a position clarified by CBIC in 2023. A specialist keeps the challan-to-ITC-04 trail complete so nothing is deemed a supply when job work runs long.
Yes, GSTR-1 & GSTR-3B Monthly Filing in Selaiyur can be completed fully online — no office visit is required at any stage, since e-signatures, OTP verification and digital document exchange cover the entire formality, with fees from Rs.749.
Why Us

Why Sundaram Smart city phase 1, Selaiyur Businesses Choose ChennaiGST

Not a bulk-filing portal. A senior consultant knows your file, your jurisdiction and your deadlines.

Notice Support Does Not Stop at Filing

If a query, ASMT-10 scrutiny notice or DRC-01 arrives on a return we filed, we stand behind our work and help you draft the reply. You are not left alone with a departmental letter and a thirty-day clock ticking against you.

Cancelled GSTIN? We Handle Revocation Too

A registration cancelled for non-filing is not the end of the road. We bring the pending returns up to date, clear the dues and file the revocation application in REG-21 within the permitted window, restoring suspended and cancelled GSTINs to active status.

Same-Day Response, Every Working Day

Send your query on call or WhatsApp and you hear back the same working day, usually within a few hours. When a due date is close or a notice has landed, waiting two days for a reply is simply not acceptable, and we know it.

Every Return Reviewed by a Senior Consultant

No filing leaves our desk on a junior's judgement alone. A senior GST practitioner reviews your figures, ITC claims and tax computation before submission, so errors are caught at our table and not by the department months later through a notice.

Correct HSN Codes and Rates, Verified

GSTR-1 requires four-digit HSN reporting for turnover up to Rs.5 crore and six digits above it, and a wrong code often means a wrong rate. We verify the classification of what you actually supply, so your invoices and returns rest on defensible codes.

One Dedicated Point of Contact

You deal with one accountable person who knows your business, your turnover pattern and your filing history. No repeating your story to a new voice every month, and no file falling between two desks when a deadline is approaching.

How It Works

Our Monthly Returns Process

Monthly data collection

At month end we remind you and collect sales invoices, purchase bills and credit notes in whatever format you maintain, including Excel, Tally exports or scanned copies.

GSTR-1 preparation and filing

We prepare invoice-wise outward supply details, validate GSTINs of your B2B customers, summarise B2C supplies and file GSTR-1 on the portal before the 11th.

ITC reconciliation with GSTR-2B

We download your auto-drafted GSTR-2B, match it against purchase records, and claim only eligible input tax credit so that mismatches do not trigger scrutiny notices later.

Tax computation and confirmation

We compute net tax payable after ITC set-off, share the working with you for approval, and generate the payment challan for any cash liability.

GSTR-3B filing and reporting

After your confirmation and tax payment, we file GSTR-3B before the 20th and send you both filed acknowledgements along with a one-page summary of the month.

Outcomes

What You Get

Practical outcomes our clients measure us by.

Tax Paid Under the Right Head

Getting IGST versus CGST and SGST right at the invoice stage spares you the painful cycle of paying the correct head again and pursuing a refund of the amount paid under the wrong one.

Faster GST Refunds

Complete RFD-01 applications with proper statements and annexures move through the system faster and attract fewer deficiency memos, which means export and inverted-duty refunds reach your bank account sooner.

Every Eligible Rupee of ITC Claimed

Systematic GSTR-2B matching and supplier follow-up mean input tax credit that was leaking away under self-filing is captured each month, directly reducing the cash you pay out with every GSTR-3B.

Smooth Scheme Transitions

Whether moving between composition and regular scheme, opting into QRMP, or crossing the e-invoice threshold at Rs.5 crore, transitions are planned in advance rather than discovered after a compliance breach.

Growth Without Compliance Anxiety

New branches, new product lines and interstate sales all carry GST consequences. With standing professional support, you expand knowing registrations, invoicing and returns will keep pace with the business.

Reduced Dependence on One Employee

When GST knowledge lives inside a single staff member, their resignation becomes a compliance crisis. With our firm as the standing process, your filings continue uninterrupted regardless of internal staff changes.

Why a Specialist Matters

With ChennaiGST vs Doing It Yourself

AspectWith ChennaiGSTDIY / Unattended
Keeping up with changesRate changes, portal updates and new thresholds such as the Rs.5 crore e-invoice limit are tracked by us and applied to your case proactively.Changes are discovered after the fact — often through a rejected filing, a blocked e-way bill or a departmental letter.
Risk of noticesGSTR-1, GSTR-3B and GSTR-2B reconciled before filing, removing the mismatches that trigger most scrutiny notices.Inconsistent figures across returns quietly build a mismatch history that surfaces later as ASMT-10 scrutiny or a demand notice.
Goods in transitE-way bills generated correctly and matched to invoices, so consignments pass roadside inspections without detention or penalty.A defective or missing e-way bill can mean detention at a checkpoint, with penalties that dwarf the tax on the consignment.
Due-date trackingA maintained compliance calendar with internal cut-offs days before the 11th and the 20th; we chase you for data, not the other way around.Deadlines remembered from memory or phone alarms; one busy week and the return slips past the due date.
Input tax creditPurchase register matched against GSTR-2B each period, with defaulting suppliers chased so eligible credit is actually captured.Credit claimed from books alone; mismatches with GSTR-2B mean lost credit or excess claims that invite departmental queries.
Portal credentials and dataLogins handled by a small engaged team under strict confidentiality, with credentials stored securely and never passed onward.Passwords circulating on chats with freelancers and part-timers, and no accountability for who has accessed your business data.

GST law moves through notifications, circulars and court decisions. These are the ones changing how filings are prepared right now.

GST Council

Millet flour preparations exempted or cut to 5 per cent; molasses reduced from 28 to 5 per cent

52nd GST Council Meeting, New Delhi — 7 October 2023 · 2023-10-07

The Council recommended nil GST on food preparation of millet flour in powder form containing at least 70 per cent millets by weight when sold loose, and 5 per cent when pre-packaged and labelled. GST on molasses was slashed from 28 per cent to 5 per cent to benefit sugarcane farmers and reduce cattle feed costs. The Council also clarified that job work services of converting barley into malt attract the concessional 5 per cent rate applicable to job work in relation to food products, and not 18 per cent.

Why this matters: Food processors and cattle-feed traders in Tamil Nadu gained significant input cost relief and needed to re-price millet-based products.

Case Law

Demands for belated input tax credit for 2017-18 to 2020-21 set aside in view of new Section 16(5)

M/s. New PSP Traders v. Deputy State Tax Officer — Madras High Court (Madurai Bench), W.P.(MD) No. 17026 of 2025, decided 25 June 2025 (C. Saravanan J.) · 2025-06-25

The assessment orders had denied input tax credit purely because the returns were filed after the Section 16(4) cut-off. The Court held that the challenge was squarely covered by newly inserted Section 16(5), which permits credit on invoices relating to the financial years 2017-18 to 2020-21 if taken in any return filed up to 30 November 2021, notwithstanding Section 16(4). The impugned orders were quashed and the matter remitted for fresh orders consistent with the amendment.

How we apply it: A Chennai dealer whose ITC for 2017-18 to 2020-21 was disallowed only for late filing should apply for rectification or move the High Court, since Section 16(5) now protects that credit.

Notification

Reduced interest for the second COVID wave months of March to May 2021

Notification No. 08/2021-Central Tax · 2021-05-01

For the March and April 2021 tax periods the interest rate on delayed payment through GSTR-3B was moderated, and Notification No. 18/2021-Central Tax later extended the same relief to May 2021. Taxpayers above Rs 5 crore turnover paid nine per cent for the first fifteen days beyond the due date and eighteen per cent thereafter. Taxpayers up to Rs 5 crore paid nil interest for the first fifteen days, nine per cent for the next fifteen days and eighteen per cent afterwards. Composition taxpayers were given a comparable concession on their quarterly challan.

What it means for you: Interest on the second wave months must be worked out on this graded table rather than at a flat eighteen per cent from the due date.

FAQs

Frequently Asked Questions

Straight answers from practising GST consultants — based on the CGST Act, current CBIC notifications and day-to-day portal experience.

Do you provide gst return filing for small businesses and proprietorships in Selaiyur?
Yes. A large share of our clients in Selaiyur are proprietors, small traders, shop owners, freelancers and family businesses rather than large companies. The fee of Rs.749/month and the process are the same regardless of size, and we explain the compliance position in plain language — in Tamil or English — so you understand what is being filed on your behalf and why.
Do you provide GSTR-1 & GSTR-3B monthly filing for businesses on Sundaram Smart city phase 1?
Yes. We serve businesses on and around Sundaram Smart city phase 1 in Selaiyur — shops, offices, godowns and home-run businesses alike. Document pickup can be arranged at your premises, or you can send everything on WhatsApp and complete monthly returns without leaving your counter. Call +91 - 9600 606 444 and mention your location; a consultant will confirm the fee and timeline immediately.
What is a debit note under GST and when do I issue one?
You issue a debit note when the taxable value or tax charged in the original invoice was less than what is actually payable, for example a price escalation clause kicking in or a rate charged short. Declaring the debit note in GSTR-1 increases your output liability, payable with interest where the shortfall relates to an earlier period. There is no outer time limit on issuing a debit note itself. For your buyer, the debit note is a credit document: following the amendment to Section 16(4), the buyer's time limit to claim ITC runs from the date of the debit note, not the original invoice.
My workshop bills customers for spare parts and labour together. How should GST be charged?
The accepted practice, supported by CBIC's clarification on servicing, is that where the invoice separately shows the value of parts and the value of labour, each takes its own treatment: parts as a supply of goods and repair labour as a service at 18%. Since auto components also moved to 18% from September 2025, both lines of a typical job card now carry the same rate, which removes the old temptation to shift value between parts and labour. Still keep the split, because HSN and SAC reporting in GSTR-1 differ for goods and services. Workshops can call +91 - 9600 606 444 for invoice-format templates.
Is there a late fee for filing GSTR-1 after the 11th?
Yes. Late fee for GSTR-1 is Rs.50 per day of delay, and Rs.20 per day where there are no outward supplies, subject to caps linked to your turnover. Although the portal historically collected GSTR-1 late fees through the next GSTR-3B, the liability arises the moment the due date passes. Delayed GSTR-1 also hurts your customers, because your invoices miss their GSTR-2B and their input tax credit gets deferred, which can strain business relationships. Filing by the 11th every month avoids both the cost and the friction.
What is the due date for GSTR-3B in Tamil Nadu?
For monthly filers, GSTR-3B is due on the 20th of the following month. If you are registered in Tamil Nadu and have opted for the QRMP scheme, your quarterly GSTR-3B is due on the 22nd of the month following the quarter. GSTR-3B is the summary return through which you actually pay tax, so missing it attracts a late fee of Rs.50 per day (Rs.20 for nil returns) plus interest at 18 percent per annum on tax paid late.
What is the difference between CPIN and CIN, and how long is a GST challan valid?
When you generate a challan in Form PMT-06 on the portal, the system issues a fourteen-digit Common Portal Identification Number, the CPIN, which identifies the unpaid challan and remains valid for fifteen days. Once the bank receives your payment, a seventeen-digit Challan Identification Number, the CIN, is generated, comprising the CPIN plus the bank code, and the amount credits your electronic cash ledger. If a challan expires unpaid, simply generate a fresh one; no consequence follows. Payment modes include net banking, UPI, cards, NEFT or RTGS, and over-the-counter deposit up to Rs.10,000 per challan per tax period.
We hire security guards from an agency. Should they charge GST or should we pay it ourselves?
Check the agency's constitution. Since 1 January 2019, security services by way of supply of security personnel provided by any person other than a body corporate to a registered person fall under reverse charge, so your business pays the 18 percent directly and claims credit. If the agency is a body corporate, such as a private limited company, it charges GST under forward charge on its invoice. Recipients registered under the composition scheme are excluded from this reverse charge entry. Businesses in Selaiyur commonly pay agencies' forward-charge invoices while also missing their own RCM cases, so an annual review of security and manpower bills is worthwhile.
Why should I reconcile GSTR-2B with my purchase books every month?
Because your input tax credit in GSTR-3B is legally restricted to invoices appearing in GSTR-2B. Under Section 16(2)(aa) and Rule 36(4), credit is available only when the supplier has reported the invoice in their GSTR-1 and it flows into your GSTR-2B. Monthly reconciliation catches suppliers who have not filed, invoices reported with wrong GSTINs, duplicate entries and rate differences, before they become mismatch notices. It also protects working capital, since missed credits sit unclaimed. A disciplined monthly reconciliation, matched invoice by invoice, is the single most effective protection against ITC disputes for businesses in Selaiyur.
I claimed some ITC wrongly last year. What interest and penalty apply if I reverse it now?
Under Section 50(3) as amended, interest at 18 percent per annum applies where wrongly availed credit has also been utilised, calculated from the date of utilisation until reversal; credit that was availed but never utilised, because your ledger balance never fell below the wrong amount, attracts no interest. Voluntary reversal is done through GSTR-3B or by payment in DRC-03, and paying before any show cause notice generally avoids or minimises penalty. If the department has already issued ASMT-10 or DRC-01, reply timelines apply, so act quickly. Call +91 - 9600 606 444 and ChennaiGST can compute the exact interest and file the DRC-03.
What is the difference between GSTR-2A and GSTR-2B, and which one should I follow?
GSTR-2A is a dynamic statement that keeps changing as suppliers file or amend their returns, so the same month's data can look different on different dates. GSTR-2B is a static statement generated on the 14th of each month, capturing supplier filings between cut-off dates, and it never changes afterwards. The law ties your ITC eligibility to GSTR-2B, and GSTR-3B auto-populates from it, so 2B is the statement to reconcile against for monthly claims. GSTR-2A remains useful for tracing when an invoice was actually uploaded, which helps in replying to departmental queries about earlier periods.
What is the electronic liability register on the GST portal and why should I check it?
The electronic liability register, maintained in Form PMT-01, records every liability raised against your GSTIN: self-assessed tax from returns in Part I, and demands from assessments, adjudication orders and DRC-07 summaries in Part II. Payments and pre-deposits are set off against these entries. You can view it under Services, then Ledgers. Checking Part II periodically matters because demand entries you never noticed can trigger recovery, interest accumulation and refund adjustments. During any refund claim, the officer will offset outstanding register balances, so a clean register speeds up your money. We review all three ledgers in every Selaiyur health check.
How is interest calculated on a GST demand or late payment?
Interest runs at 18 percent per annum under Section 50 on tax paid after the due date, computed day-wise from the day following the due date until payment. Following amendments, interest on delayed GSTR-3B liability applies on the portion paid through the electronic cash ledger, and interest on wrongly availed ITC arises where the credit has been both availed and utilised. Interest is payable even where no penalty applies, and it cannot be waived by the officer. Because interest compounds silently over long disputes, paying the admitted tax early through DRC-03, even while contesting the rest, often saves a substantial amount.
How does GST work on lorry freight paid to a goods transport agency?
A goods transport agency, identified by its issue of a consignment note, is taxed in one of two ways. By default, specified recipients such as companies and registered persons pay 5 percent under reverse charge on the freight and can claim it as ITC. Alternatively, the GTA may opt to pay tax itself under forward charge, at 5 percent without ITC or 18 percent with ITC after the September 2025 rate rationalisation replaced the earlier 12 percent option, by filing the prescribed declaration for the financial year; the invoice should state this option. Transport by an individual lorry owner without a consignment note is not a GTA service and is exempt. Check each transporter's invoice wording before deciding who pays the tax.
What is the GST rate for salons, gyms and yoga centres?
From 22 September 2025, beauty and physical well-being services, covering salons, barbers, beauty parlours, gyms, fitness centres and yoga institutes, attract 5 percent GST without input tax credit, reduced from the earlier 18 percent. The condition attached to the concessional rate is important: because credit is barred, the GST paid on your rent, equipment, cosmetics and consumables becomes part of your cost base. Service businesses in Selaiyur moving to the 5 percent rate should reprice services keeping this embedded tax in mind, and must not continue charging 18 percent, since excess tax collected has to be deposited with the government.
Who must sign GST filings with a DSC, and who can use EVC?
Companies and limited liability partnerships must authenticate registration applications and returns with a Digital Signature Certificate of the authorised signatory; the Electronic Verification Code route is not ordinarily available to them, though the government has periodically allowed EVC for companies during specified relaxation windows. Proprietorships, partnerships, HUFs and trusts can freely use EVC, an OTP sent to the authorised signatory's registered mobile and email. The DSC must be a Class 3 signature registered on the portal against the signatory's PAN. If a company's filings fail at the signing step, an expired or unregistered DSC is the usual culprit.
Is GST still charged on life and health insurance premiums?
No. With effect from 22 September 2025, premiums on all individual life insurance policies, including term plans, endowment plans and ULIPs, and all individual health insurance policies, including family floater and senior citizen plans, are exempt from GST. Reinsurance of these policies is also exempt. Earlier these premiums bore 18 percent tax. Note that the exemption applies to policies taken by individuals; certain group covers procured by businesses can still attract GST, and insurers can no longer claim input credit attributable to exempt policies. Policyholders should see the benefit directly in renewal notices.
Are any goods exempt from GST when transported by a GTA?
Yes. Transport by a GTA of agricultural produce, milk, salt and foodgrains including flours and pulses, organic manure, newspapers and magazines registered with the Registrar of Newspapers, relief materials for victims of calamities, and defence or military equipment is exempt regardless of freight value. Note that the older exemptions for small consignments, Rs.1,500 for a full truckload and Rs.750 for a single consignee, were withdrawn with effect from 18 July 2022, so ordinary cargo enjoys no value-based relief now. Transporters serving agricultural markets should describe the produce accurately on the consignment note to support the exemption.
