Trade Profile and GST Jurisdiction for Santhome High Road, Foreshore Estate

Foreshore Estate, known locally as Pattinapakkam, is the coastal settlement where fishing households along Loop Road and the Trust streets meet the Adyar estuary near the Broken Bridge, with fish vending clustered around the Foreshore Estate bus terminus. Fresh fish is exempt from GST, but boat repair, ice supply, cold transport and online seafood sales are taxable, creating chronic classification and registration confusion. We have supported businesses of exactly this profile with GSTR-1 & GSTR-3B Monthly Filing across Foreshore Estate for years, along with clients from Santhome and Raja Annamalaipuram. The engagement is simple: one point of contact, a clear fee, documents over WhatsApp or in person at our Chennai office, and senior review before anything is submitted on the portal. What you get in return is clean filings, archived records and far fewer reasons for the department to write to you.

GST jurisdiction for Foreshore Estate (PIN 600028): businesses here generally fall under the CGST Chennai North Commissionerate. We regularly represent clients from Foreshore Estate before this jurisdiction for registrations, clarifications and notice hearings, and can confirm your exact division and range from your GSTIN. State-jurisdiction cases are handled with the Tamil Nadu Commercial Taxes Department.
GST for Auto Component Businesses in Foreshore Estate
Auto components moved to a uniform 18 percent from the earlier 28 percent slab with effect from 22 September 2025, simplifying rate disputes but tightening OEM compliance expectations. Suppliers in Foreshore Estate must issue e-invoices with IRNs that OEM systems validate before releasing payment, send goods for machining or plating on Rule 45 delivery challans, and report those job work movements in Form ITC-04. Parts replaced free of charge under warranty attract no further GST because tax was collected on the original composite price, a position clarified by CBIC in 2023. A specialist keeps the challan-to-ITC-04 trail complete so nothing is deemed a supply when job work runs long.
GSTR-1 & GSTR-3B Monthly Filing in Foreshore Estate is priced from Rs.749 and includes document verification, reconciliation with portal data, senior review, filing and a complete acknowledgement set archived for your records.
Why Us

Why Santhome High Road, Foreshore Estate Businesses Choose ChennaiGST

Not a bulk-filing portal. A senior consultant knows your file, your jurisdiction and your deadlines.

Extra Hands During Filing Windows

In the days before the 11th and the 20th, our team runs extended hours and a strict internal queue, so a client who sends data late in the window is still filed on time. Peak-season crush at our end never becomes a late fee at yours.

GSTR-9 and GSTR-9C Handled In-House

The annual return and, where turnover crosses Rs.5 crore, the self-certified reconciliation statement in GSTR-9C are prepared by the same team that filed your monthly returns. Nothing about your year has to be rediscovered or explained to a stranger in December.

Experience Across Trades and Sectors

Traders, manufacturers, contractors, e-commerce sellers, professionals and service exporters — we have handled GST for all of them. Whatever mix of goods and services your Foreshore Estate business supplies, the rate, classification and place-of-supply questions have almost certainly crossed our desk before.

Zero Tolerance for Late Fees and Interest

GSTR-3B late fees run at Rs.50 per day and interest at 18 percent per annum on unpaid tax. Our internal cut-offs sit days ahead of statutory due dates precisely so that our clients never hand the department a rupee they did not owe.

Every Return Reviewed by a Senior Consultant

No filing leaves our desk on a junior's judgement alone. A senior GST practitioner reviews your figures, ITC claims and tax computation before submission, so errors are caught at our table and not by the department months later through a notice.

Support in Tamil and English

GST is confusing enough without a language barrier. Our team explains notices, tax positions and filing requirements in plain Tamil or English, whichever you and your staff in Foreshore Estate are comfortable with, and keeps written communication simple and jargon-free.

How It Works

Our Monthly Returns Process

Monthly data collection

At month end we remind you and collect sales invoices, purchase bills and credit notes in whatever format you maintain, including Excel, Tally exports or scanned copies.

GSTR-1 preparation and filing

We prepare invoice-wise outward supply details, validate GSTINs of your B2B customers, summarise B2C supplies and file GSTR-1 on the portal before the 11th.

ITC reconciliation with GSTR-2B

We download your auto-drafted GSTR-2B, match it against purchase records, and claim only eligible input tax credit so that mismatches do not trigger scrutiny notices later.

Tax computation and confirmation

We compute net tax payable after ITC set-off, share the working with you for approval, and generate the payment challan for any cash liability.

GSTR-3B filing and reporting

After your confirmation and tax payment, we file GSTR-3B before the 20th and send you both filed acknowledgements along with a one-page summary of the month.

Outcomes

What You Get

Practical outcomes our clients measure us by.

Audit-Ready Records at All Times

Filed returns, challans, reconciliations and working papers are archived in order from day one. If an audit or departmental verification comes, your file is ready the same week, not assembled in a panic.

Credit Notes That Actually Reduce Your Tax

Sales returns, discounts and price revisions are adjusted through properly reported credit notes within the statutory window, so you never keep paying tax on turnover you have already reversed.

No More Late Fees

With returns filed ahead of the statutory due dates every period, the Rs.50-per-day GSTR-3B late fee simply stops appearing in your life, and the money stays in your business where it belongs.

The Lowest Tax Position the Law Allows

Your scheme choice — regular, composition or QRMP — is re-examined as turnover and margins change, so you are always paying under the structure that legitimately costs your business the least.

Better Cash Flow Planning

You know your expected GST outflow days before the 20th, not on the night of filing. That advance visibility lets you plan payments, collections and bank balances instead of scrambling for funds at the deadline.

Fewer Errors at the Billing Counter

Your billing staff are guided on invoice fields, rates and series discipline, so mistakes are prevented where they originate — at the counter — instead of being repaired later in the returns.

Why a Specialist Matters

With ChennaiGST vs Doing It Yourself

AspectWith ChennaiGSTDIY / Unattended
Input tax creditPurchase register matched against GSTR-2B each period, with defaulting suppliers chased so eligible credit is actually captured.Credit claimed from books alone; mismatches with GSTR-2B mean lost credit or excess claims that invite departmental queries.
Keeping up with changesRate changes, portal updates and new thresholds such as the Rs.5 crore e-invoice limit are tracked by us and applied to your case proactively.Changes are discovered after the fact — often through a rejected filing, a blocked e-way bill or a departmental letter.
Portal credentials and dataLogins handled by a small engaged team under strict confidentiality, with credentials stored securely and never passed onward.Passwords circulating on chats with freelancers and part-timers, and no accountability for who has accessed your business data.
When a notice arrivesA professional drafts the reply in the department's format and files it within the statutory window, such as thirty days for ASMT-11.You face departmental language alone, and a missed reply deadline can convert a simple query into a demand with penalty.
Refund claimsRFD-01 filed with complete statements and annexures, tracked from ARN to bank credit, with any deficiency memo answered promptly.Incomplete claims bounce back as deficiency memos while the refund sits unclaimed for months and working capital stays blocked.
Risk of noticesGSTR-1, GSTR-3B and GSTR-2B reconciled before filing, removing the mismatches that trigger most scrutiny notices.Inconsistent figures across returns quietly build a mismatch history that surfaces later as ASMT-10 scrutiny or a demand notice.

Circular

Which GST deadlines the Supreme Court's Covid limitation order actually extended

Circular No. 157/13/2021-GST dated 20 July 2021 · 2021-07-20

CBIC explained the effect of the Supreme Court's order of 27 April 2021 extending limitation. The extension applies where an appeal has to be filed against a quasi-judicial order before the Joint or Additional Commissioner (Appeals), the Commissioner (Appeals), the Appellate Authority for Advance Ruling, the Tribunal or the courts, or where a revision or rectification of an order has to be sought. It does not apply to proceedings a taxpayer has to initiate or compliances he has to make, which remain governed only by the statute and by the notifications issued under section 168A of the CGST Act, nor to the quasi-judicial work of officers such as deciding refund claims, revocation applications and demand adjudications, which may continue.

How we apply it: A Chennai taxpayer who missed an appeal deadline during the pandemic waves can rely on this relief, but return filing dates were never covered by it.

Portal Advisory

GSTR-3B outward liability becomes non-editable from July 2025

GSTN Advisory dated 7 June 2025 — non-editable auto-populated liability in GSTR-3B · 2025-06-07

After an October 2024 advisory and a January 2025 deferment, GSTN confirmed that from the July 2025 tax period the auto-populated outward tax liability in GSTR-3B, drawn from GSTR-1, IFF or GSTR-1A, is hard-locked and cannot be edited manually while filing. Any correction to sales figures must be made through GSTR-1A before GSTR-3B is filed. The change is intended to end mismatches between GSTR-1 and GSTR-3B.

Practical effect: Reconcile sales data before filing GSTR-1 each month, since GSTR-3B can no longer be adjusted at the last minute.

Case Law

Money parked in the cash ledger does not stop interest until the return is filed

RSB Transmissions (India) Ltd v. Union of India — Jharkhand High Court, judgment dated 18 October 2022 · 2022-10-18

The taxpayer had deposited about Rs. 29.83 crore into the electronic cash ledger before the due dates but filed GSTR-3B late for several tax periods between July 2017 and December 2019, and interest was demanded for the delay. The High Court dismissed the challenge, holding that a deposit in the electronic cash ledger is only money held to the taxpayer's credit and does not discharge tax liability. Liability is discharged only when the ledger is debited on filing the return, so interest runs until then.

How we apply it: Depositing cash into the ledger early does not protect you from interest — the GSTR-3B must actually be filed on time.

FAQs

Frequently Asked Questions

Straight answers from practising GST consultants — based on the CGST Act, current CBIC notifications and day-to-day portal experience.

Do you provide GSTR-1 & GSTR-3B monthly filing for businesses on Santhome High Road?
Yes. We serve businesses on and around Santhome High Road in Foreshore Estate — shops, offices, godowns and home-run businesses alike. Document pickup can be arranged at your premises, or you can send everything on WhatsApp and complete monthly returns without leaving your counter. Call +91 - 9600 606 444 and mention your location; a consultant will confirm the fee and timeline immediately.
Can I get GSTR-1 & GSTR-3B monthly filing done online without visiting the office?
Yes, the entire process can be handled online. You share scanned documents on WhatsApp or email, we prepare and file everything on the GST portal, and you receive the acknowledgement and filed copies digitally. Businesses in Foreshore Estate regularly complete monthly returns with us without a single office visit. If a physical verification or personal hearing is required by the department, we guide you through it.
My SaaS startup in Foreshore Estate bills both US and Indian customers. Is everything zero-rated?
No. Only the supplies satisfying the export conditions are zero-rated under your LUT. Subscriptions billed to customers located in India are ordinary taxable supplies at 18 percent, with the place of supply being the registered customer's location, or the address on record for unregistered users. Your GSTR-1 must therefore separate export invoices from domestic B2B and B2C supplies, and your accumulated ITC refund is computed only in proportion to export turnover. Many Foreshore Estate SaaS founders wrongly treat all revenue as export because billing runs through one gateway; a revenue-wise mapping avoids demands later. Call +91 - 9600 606 444 for a review.
What happens if I miss filing GSTR-3B this month?
A late fee of Rs.50 per day (Rs.20 per day for a nil return) accrues automatically, capped based on your turnover, and interest at 18 percent per annum applies on tax paid late. You also cannot file the next period's GSTR-1 until the pending GSTR-3B is filed, since returns must be filed sequentially. If two consecutive tax periods remain unfiled, e-way bill generation gets blocked, and continued default can lead to suspension of your GSTIN. File the pending return at the earliest; call +91 - 9600 606 444 and we can clear the backlog quickly.
My landlord in Foreshore Estate has no GSTIN but my business is registered. Who pays GST on the shop rent?
You do. With effect from 10 October 2024, renting of immovable property other than a residential dwelling by an unregistered person to a registered person was brought under reverse charge through Notification 09/2024-Central Tax (Rate). So a registered trader renting a shop from an unregistered landlord must pay 18 percent under RCM through GSTR-3B and can claim it back as input tax credit if eligible. Composition taxpayers have since been kept outside this entry, given they cannot claim credit. Many small businesses in Foreshore Estate are still unaware of this 2024 change, and scrutiny notices on rent entries have already begun appearing. Call +91 - 9600 606 444 to regularise past months.
My workshop bills customers for spare parts and labour together. How should GST be charged?
The accepted practice, supported by CBIC's clarification on servicing, is that where the invoice separately shows the value of parts and the value of labour, each takes its own treatment: parts as a supply of goods and repair labour as a service at 18%. Since auto components also moved to 18% from September 2025, both lines of a typical job card now carry the same rate, which removes the old temptation to shift value between parts and labour. Still keep the split, because HSN and SAC reporting in GSTR-1 differ for goods and services. Workshops can call +91 - 9600 606 444 for invoice-format templates.
My bank account was debited for a GST challan but the cash ledger shows nothing. What do I do?
This is a payment-communication failure between the bank and the portal, and the prescribed remedy is Form PMT-07, filed under Services, then Payments, then Grievance against Payment. Quote the CPIN, bank name and debit details; the system takes up the discrepancy with the bank, and the amount either credits your ledger once the bank confirms, or is re-credited to your account if the transaction failed. Do not pay twice immediately; most cases resolve within a day or two. If a return due date is pressing, generate a fresh challan and later seek refund of the duplicate. Foreshore Estate clients can call +91 - 9600 606 444 for urgent help.
We hire security guards from an agency. Should they charge GST or should we pay it ourselves?
Check the agency's constitution. Since 1 January 2019, security services by way of supply of security personnel provided by any person other than a body corporate to a registered person fall under reverse charge, so your business pays the 18 percent directly and claims credit. If the agency is a body corporate, such as a private limited company, it charges GST under forward charge on its invoice. Recipients registered under the composition scheme are excluded from this reverse charge entry. Businesses in Foreshore Estate commonly pay agencies' forward-charge invoices while also missing their own RCM cases, so an annual review of security and manpower bills is worthwhile.
My supplier filed GSTR-1 but never filed GSTR-3B. Does that affect my credit?
Yes, through Rule 37A. If your supplier reports the invoice in GSTR-1, the credit flows into your GSTR-2B and you may claim it, but if that supplier has not filed the GSTR-3B for the same period by 30 September following the end of the financial year, you must reverse the credit in a return filed on or before 30 November. Reversal done within this window carries no interest; delay beyond it attracts interest at 18 percent. The credit can be re-availed once the supplier eventually files GSTR-3B. A supplier filing-status check is therefore now part of any serious reconciliation for businesses in Foreshore Estate.
My turnover is Rs.1.2 crore. Is GSTR-9 compulsory for me?
No. For taxpayers with aggregate turnover up to Rs.2 crore, filing GSTR-9 has been made optional through CBIC notifications, and this relaxation has been continued year on year. If you do not file by the due date, the return is deemed furnished. That said, many businesses in Foreshore Estate still choose to file voluntarily because the exercise reconciles the year's GSTR-1, GSTR-3B, books and GSTR-2B, and surfaces excess credit claims or unreported liability before the department finds them. We offer a reduced fee for voluntary GSTR-9 filings, starting at Rs.749.
I heard old ITC demands for 2017-18 to 2020-21 were given relief. What is Section 16(5)?
The Finance (No. 2) Act 2024 inserted Section 16(5) retrospectively, allowing ITC for financial years 2017-18 to 2020-21 if it was claimed in a GSTR-3B filed on or before 30 November 2021, even though it breached the original Section 16(4) deadline. Section 16(6) gives similar relief for returns filed after revocation of a cancelled registration. Where demands were already confirmed on this ground, a special rectification procedure was notified for taxpayers to have such orders corrected. If your Foreshore Estate business paid or is contesting a 16(4) demand for these years, have the eligibility under 16(5) examined; call +91 - 9600 606 444 for a review.
I buy electronics stock from distributors in other states. How does the IGST on purchases work for me?
Inter-state purchases carry IGST, which flows into your GSTR-2B once the distributor files GSTR-1, and it is fully available as input tax credit. When you sell locally in Tamil Nadu you charge CGST and SGST, and the law lets you use IGST credit against both, with the portal applying the set-off order automatically. There is no cost disadvantage in buying from out-of-state distributors, provided they are compliant filers; a distributor who files late delays your credit by a month. Track supplier filing discipline as part of vendor selection. Retailers in Foreshore Estate can call +91 - 9600 606 444 for a supplier compliance scorecard.
My shop's landlord in Foreshore Estate is not GST registered. Do I pay GST on the rent myself?
Yes, if you are registered. With effect from 10 October 2024, renting of any immovable property other than a residential dwelling by an unregistered person to a registered person was notified under reverse charge, so a registered tenant must pay 18 percent on the rent in cash through GSTR-3B and can claim ITC subject to the usual conditions. Composition taxpayers were subsequently excluded from this entry with effect from 16 January 2025. You must also raise a monthly self-invoice since the landlord is unregistered. Many shop and godown tenants in Foreshore Estate remain unaware of this recent entry; call +91 - 9600 606 444 to regularise past months.
What does a GST consultant in Foreshore Estate typically charge for refund and compliance work?
Fees vary with complexity. Simple filings such as an LUT or an excess cash ledger refund are usually fixed-fee assignments, while export and inverted duty refunds involve invoice statements, formula workings and departmental follow-up, so they may be priced as a fixed fee or a small percentage of the refund secured. Monthly reconciliation and return packages are subscription-based. ChennaiGST publishes transparent pricing starting at Rs.749 with no percentage cut on straightforward claims, and you pay only after the scope is agreed in writing. Call +91 - 9600 606 444 for a quote specific to your turnover and refund type.
Is there really a penalty for not displaying my GST number at my shop?
Yes. Rule 18 of the CGST Rules requires every registered person to display the registration certificate in a prominent location at the principal place of business and every additional place, and to display the GSTIN on the name board at the entry of each such premises. There is no separate penalty provision for this lapse, so officers invoke the general penalty under Section 125, which can extend to Rs.25,000 under CGST with a matching state penalty. Inspection teams visiting Foreshore Estate markets routinely check name boards first, so a few hundred rupees of signage is the cheapest compliance in the entire GST law.
I am a composition dealer. Which returns apply to me and when?
Composition taxpayers do not file GSTR-1 or GSTR-3B. Instead, you pay tax every quarter through statement CMP-08, due by the 18th of the month following the quarter, and file one annual return, GSTR-4, by 30 June following the financial year. The scheme is available for turnover up to Rs.1.5 crore for goods, with a separate 6 percent scheme for service providers up to Rs.50 lakh. Missing CMP-08 for consecutive quarters can block your e-way bill facility. Our composition package covers all four CMP-08 filings and the annual GSTR-4 at Rs.749 per year.
How is GST charged on clothes and footwear after the rate change?
The rate now turns on a per-piece price line of Rs.2,500. Apparel, made-up textile articles and footwear with a sale value up to Rs.2,500 per piece attract 5 percent GST, while pieces priced above Rs.2,500 attract 18 percent. The test applies item by item, so a single invoice from a garment shop in Foreshore Estate can carry both rates: a Rs.1,800 shirt at 5 percent and a Rs.4,000 pair of shoes at 18 percent on the same bill. Configure the billing software to test the price of each line item automatically rather than applying one blanket rate.
When can goods move on a delivery challan instead of a tax invoice?
Rule 55 permits movement on a delivery challan where the transportation is not itself a supply: sending inputs or capital goods for job work, taking goods to an exhibition or for approval where the sale is not yet certain, supplying liquid gas where the quantity is unknown at removal, and moving goods in semi-knocked-down form in multiple consignments, where the full invoice travels with the first lot. The challan is prepared in triplicate and an e-way bill is still required where value thresholds are crossed. Goods sent on approval must be invoiced within six months, failing which tax becomes payable.
Are there any hidden charges for GSTR-1 & GSTR-3B monthly filing?
No. The fee quoted before we start is the fee you pay. Government fees, portal charges or statutory late fees, where they apply, are separate and disclosed to you in advance with the exact amount. We issue a proper GST invoice for our professional fee. If the scope of work changes — for example, an unexpected notice or additional periods — we tell you the revised fee before doing anything further.
What documents are required for GSTR-1 & GSTR-3B monthly filing in Foreshore Estate?
For GSTR-1 & GSTR-3B monthly filing you will generally need: Sales invoices or sales register for the month, Purchase invoices or purchase register, Credit notes and debit notes issued during the month, GST portal login credentials, Bank statement for the period, if reconciliation is needed. The exact list depends on your constitution — proprietorship, partnership, LLP or company — and on the specifics of your case. Send what you have on WhatsApp to +91 - 9600 606 444 and we will confirm within the same working day exactly what else is needed, so nothing is rejected later for a missing paper.
What is the process for GSTR-1 & GSTR-3B monthly filing?
The process runs in clear stages: Monthly data collection; GSTR-1 preparation and filing; ITC reconciliation with GSTR-2B; Tax computation and confirmation. A senior consultant reviews your file at each stage rather than passing it to a data-entry desk, and you receive a confirmation with the filed documents once it is complete. You always know which stage your work is at — we update you on WhatsApp instead of leaving you to follow up.
