Trade Profile and GST Jurisdiction for Nandanam

Every locality in Chennai has its own commercial rhythm, and Nandanam is no exception. Nandanam's Anna Salai frontage between the YMCA grounds and Nandanam Arts College carries car showrooms, corporate offices, banks and training institutes, with CIT Nagar's shops and service firms behind. Showrooms tracking vehicle margins and offices paying steep lease rents both feel the pinch of 18 per cent GST on commercial rent, and service firms must pay tax on advances received even before an invoice is raised. Our practice has shaped its Departmental Audit Support work around exactly these realities, serving clients in Nandanam as well as Teynampet and T. Nagar. Registrations, returns, refunds and notice replies are handled by one accountable team, with fees fixed in writing before work begins and every filing reconciled against portal data before it is submitted.

GST jurisdiction for Nandanam (PIN 600035): businesses here generally fall under the CGST Chennai South Commissionerate. We regularly represent clients from Nandanam before this jurisdiction for registrations, clarifications and notice hearings, and can confirm your exact division and range from your GSTIN. State-jurisdiction cases are handled with the Tamil Nadu Commercial Taxes Department.
GST for Restaurants and Cloud Kitchens in Nandanam
Restaurant service is taxed at 5 percent without input tax credit, so GST paid on rent, kitchen equipment and packaging is a cost your menu pricing must absorb. Orders routed through Swiggy or Zomato fall under Section 9(5), where the platform itself pays the tax, yet you must still disclose those supplies separately in GSTR-1, keeping direct billing and aggregator billing distinct. A cloud kitchen running several brands from one Nandanam address needs one registration with disciplined brand-wise invoicing, not separate GSTINs. A specialist splits the two order streams correctly every month and prevents double taxation of aggregator sales. Call +91 - 9600 606 444 to review your setup.
For Departmental Audit Support in Nandanam the working timeline is Engagement runs through the audit, typically 1-3 months, counted from the point your documents are complete. The realistic completion date is confirmed to you in writing before work starts, and the acknowledgement is shared on WhatsApp immediately after filing.
Why Us

Why Nandanam Businesses Choose ChennaiGST

Not a bulk-filing portal. A senior consultant knows your file, your jurisdiction and your deadlines.

✓

Refund and Export Experience That Shows

From filing the LUT in RFD-11 at the start of each financial year to preparing RFD-01 refund claims with complete annexures, we know what makes a refund file move. Exporters and inverted-duty businesses come to us specifically for this.

✓

Familiar with Chennai Jurisdictions and Officers' Expectations

We work with Chennai GST ranges and circles every week, including the jurisdiction covering Nandanam. We know how local proper officers examine registrations, what supporting documents they routinely call for, and how to present a file so it moves without repeated queries.

✓

Complete Documentation, Properly Archived

Every acknowledgement, challan, computation sheet and filed return is saved and shared with you in an organised folder. When a bank, buyer or GST officer asks for a document from two years ago, it reaches you the same day without any scrambling.

✓

Job Work Movements Tracked Through ITC-04

Goods sent to job workers must move on delivery challans, return within the statutory period, and be reported in ITC-04. We track every outward and return leg for manufacturing clients in Nandanam, so inputs sent out for processing never quietly convert into a deemed supply carrying tax and interest.

✓

Multi-GSTIN and Branch Coordination

Businesses with registrations in more than one State, or multiple branches under one PAN, face cross-charge, stock transfer and input service distribution questions that single-GSTIN firms never see. We keep all your registrations consistent with each other, not just compliant individually.

✓

Support in Tamil and English

GST is confusing enough without a language barrier. Our team explains notices, tax positions and filing requirements in plain Tamil or English, whichever you and your staff in Nandanam are comfortable with, and keeps written communication simple and jargon-free.

How It Works

Our Audit Support Process

Notice review and planning

We study ADT-01 and its annexure, agree a records timetable with the audit officer where needed, and plan the engagement around the periods selected.

Pre-audit reconciliation

Before the team arrives we reconcile turnover, tax and ITC for every audit year, identifying weak areas and preparing explanations and supporting papers in advance.

Records submission

Documents are compiled, indexed and submitted in an organised form, which shortens verification and signals that the taxpayer's records are dependable.

Query management

Each audit enquiry and observation memo receives a written, evidence-backed reply, and we discuss contentious points with the audit team before findings are finalised.

Findings and closure

We review ADT-02, arrange DRC-03 payment for accepted points to limit penalty, and prepare the defence file for any finding likely to become a demand notice.

Checklist

Send these on WhatsApp (+91 - 9600 606 444) and we take it forward the same day.

Outcomes

What You Get

Practical outcomes our clients measure us by.

Tax Paid Under the Right Head

Getting IGST versus CGST and SGST right at the invoice stage spares you the painful cycle of paying the correct head again and pursuing a refund of the amount paid under the wrong one.

★

The Lowest Tax Position the Law Allows

Your scheme choice — regular, composition or QRMP — is re-examined as turnover and margins change, so you are always paying under the structure that legitimately costs your business the least.

★

Time Back for Your Actual Business

The hours you or your accountant spent wrestling with the portal, JSON errors and reconciliations every month return to sales, operations and customers, while trained hands manage the compliance in the background.

A Professional Face on Every Invoice

Correct, complete tax invoices signal a well-run business to customers, vendors and banks alike, quietly strengthening your credibility in every transaction where your paperwork is seen.

★

Bank and Tender Readiness

Loan applications and government tenders routinely demand GST returns and registration documents. With everything filed and archived properly, you can produce a complete compliance file within hours instead of days.

★

A Written Trail for Every Decision

Tax positions, rate choices and credit calls are documented as they are made, so if a question arises years later, the reasoning and evidence are on file rather than in someone's fading memory.

Why a Specialist Matters

With ChennaiGST vs Doing It Yourself

AspectWith ChennaiGSTDIY / Unattended
Record keepingEvery return, challan, acknowledgement and working paper archived in an organised folder, retrievable in minutes years later.Documents scattered across email, downloads and old phones; assembling records for a bank or an audit takes days.
Due-date trackingA maintained compliance calendar with internal cut-offs days before the 11th and the 20th; we chase you for data, not the other way around.Deadlines remembered from memory or phone alarms; one busy week and the return slips past the due date.
When a notice arrivesA professional drafts the reply in the department's format and files it within the statutory window, such as thirty days for ASMT-11.You face departmental language alone, and a missed reply deadline can convert a simple query into a demand with penalty.
Risk of noticesGSTR-1, GSTR-3B and GSTR-2B reconciled before filing, removing the mismatches that trigger most scrutiny notices.Inconsistent figures across returns quietly build a mismatch history that surfaces later as ASMT-10 scrutiny or a demand notice.
Registration and amendmentsQuery-resistant applications prepared correctly the first time, with supporting documents matched to what proper officers actually verify.Repeated clarification memos and resubmissions, with weeks lost because a rent agreement or premises photograph did not meet expectations.
Time costRoughly an hour a month to send data and approve drafts; the portal work, reconciliation and follow-up are ours.Hours every month lost to portal errors, JSON files, OTP failures and reworking figures — usually on the due date itself.

Circular

Certificate mechanism to prove the buyer reversed credit on a discount credit note

Circular No. 212/6/2024-GST · 2024-06-26

A supplier can reduce taxable value for a post-sale discount under Section 15(3)(b)(ii) only if the recipient has reversed the proportionate input tax credit. Pending a portal facility, CBIC prescribed that the supplier obtain a certificate from the recipient's chartered accountant or cost accountant, with the UDIN, confirming the reversal. Where the tax amount involved in a financial year does not exceed Rs 5 lakh for that recipient, an undertaking or certificate from the recipient itself suffices.

Why this matters: Before issuing GST credit notes for target or turnover discounts, collect the buyer's reversal certificate or undertaking, as officers routinely ask for it during audit.

GST Council

Budget hotel rooms taxed and costly hospital rooms brought to 5 per cent

47th GST Council Meeting, Chandigarh — 28 and 29 June 2022 · 2022-06-29

The Council recommended withdrawing the exemption on hotel accommodation priced up to one thousand rupees per unit per day and taxing it at 12 per cent, and taxing room rent charged by a hospital, other than intensive care and similar critical care units, where the charge exceeds five thousand rupees per day per patient, at 5 per cent without input tax credit. It also recommended withdrawing the small-consignment exemptions for goods transport agencies and giving transporters a forward-charge option. The changes took effect from 18 July 2022.

Practical effect: Chennai lodges charging under one thousand rupees a night and hospitals with deluxe rooms above five thousand rupees a day both acquired new GST liabilities from 18 July 2022.

Case Law

Gujarat High Court reads down mandatory one-third land deduction for GST on construction

Munjaal Manishbhai Bhatt v. Union of India — Gujarat High Court, 2022 · 2022-05-06

In a bungalow purchase where land constituted the dominant value, the Gujarat High Court held that the deeming fiction treating land value as one-third of the total consideration for GST on construction is arbitrary if applied mandatorily. Where the actual value of land is ascertainable from the agreement, tax must be computed after deducting the real land value; the one-third deduction in the rate notification was read down as optional, available at the taxpayer's choice.

Why this matters: Builders and buyers with separately valued land agreements can compute GST on actual construction value — worth revisiting for plotted developments and villa projects around Chennai.

It identifies which of 34 notice types you have, pulls out the DIN, GSTIN and tax period, reads the reply date printed on the notice and tells you plainly whether that date has already passed — along with the documents and reconciliations you will need. No payment, no account. If the notice does not state a date we can read, it says so rather than guessing one for you.

FAQs

Frequently Asked Questions

Straight answers from practising GST consultants — based on the CGST Act, current CBIC notifications and day-to-day portal experience.

Do you provide gst departmental audit support for small businesses and proprietorships in Nandanam?
Yes. A large share of our clients in Nandanam are proprietors, small traders, shop owners, freelancers and family businesses rather than large companies. The fee of Rs.9,999 and the process are the same regardless of size, and we explain the compliance position in plain language — in Tamil or English — so you understand what is being filed on your behalf and why.
How much does departmental audit support cost in Nandanam?
Our fee for departmental audit support in Nandanam starts at Rs.9,999 and is quoted in full before we begin — there are no hidden charges added later. The fee covers professional work end to end: document review, preparation, filing and follow-up until completion. Government fees or portal charges, where applicable, are separate and always shown to you upfront. For an exact quote based on your turnover and business type, call +91 - 9600 606 444 and a consultant will confirm it on the call.
The audit team has pointed out a tax liability. Should I pay it or contest it?
Evaluate each para on its own merits. For findings that are clearly correct, such as missed reverse charge or arithmetic ITC excess, paying through DRC-03 with interest before a show cause notice is issued avoids penalty under Section 73 and closes the para. For findings based on debatable classification, valuation or ITC interpretation, submit a reasoned rebuttal to the draft observations, because accepting them sets a precedent for future years. If the department still proceeds, contest the DRC-01 through DRC-06 and, if needed, appeal. ChennaiGST gives Nandanam businesses a para-wise pay-or-fight recommendation with quantified exposure; call +91 - 9600 606 444 before you concede anything.
I received Form ADT-01 saying my business is selected for GST audit. What does it mean?
ADT-01 is the intimation that the department will conduct an audit of your records under Section 65. The notice must be issued at least fifteen working days before the audit begins and will specify the financial years covered and the documents required. The audit may happen at your place of business or at the department's office. It is a detailed examination of returns, books, ITC claims and classifications, not a routine visit. Use the fifteen-day window to reconcile your data and organise records rather than waiting for the officers to arrive. ChennaiGST provides end-to-end audit support for Nandanam businesses; call +91 - 9600 606 444 early.
What is the difference between GST return scrutiny and a departmental audit?
Scrutiny under Section 61 is a desk review of your filed returns, where the officer points out specific discrepancies through ASMT-10 and you explain them in ASMT-11; it is limited to what the returns reveal. An audit under Section 65 is far wider: officers examine your books of account, records and returns together, can visit your premises, and test classification, valuation, ITC eligibility and exemptions for the years covered by the ADT-01. Scrutiny can be closed with a good reconciliation; an audit needs sustained document management and negotiation over weeks. Both, if unresolved, end in Section 73 or 74 demands, so early professional handling pays.
How will I be informed of the GST audit findings?
On conclusion of the audit, the officer must inform you of the findings, your rights and obligations, and the reasons for the findings in Form ADT-02 within thirty days. Before that, most audit teams share draft observations and seek your response, which is your best window to knock out weak points with documents. If the audit detects unpaid tax or wrongly availed ITC, you can accept and pay through DRC-03, or contest, in which case the department initiates proceedings under Section 73 or Section 74. Treat the draft objection stage seriously; a strong rebuttal there often prevents a show cause notice altogether.
What documents do GST audit officers usually ask for?
Expect to produce the GSTR-1, GSTR-3B and GSTR-9 filings for the audit years, audited financial statements, trial balance, sales and purchase registers, ITC ledgers with supplier-wise detail, fixed asset register, e-way bill data, bank statements, key customer and vendor agreements, stock records and reconciliations between books and returns. Officers in Tamil Nadu commonly probe ITC on blocked credits under Section 17(5), reverse charge compliance, classification and rate issues, and turnover differences with income tax filings. Preparing a reconciliation file before submission lets you spot and voluntarily correct issues through DRC-03, which is far cheaper than an audit objection. ChennaiGST builds this file for Nandanam clients.
How long can a departmental GST audit under Section 65 go on?
The law requires the audit to be completed within three months from its commencement, which is the date the officers receive all the records they asked for. Where the Commissioner is satisfied that the audit cannot be completed in that time, he may record reasons and extend it by a further period not exceeding six months. In practice, audits drag when taxpayers supply records piecemeal, so submitting a complete, indexed set of documents at the start actually shortens the exercise. Track every submission with an acknowledgment, because the commencement date and the timeline arguments may matter later if disputes arise.
What happens after I file Form APL-01 on the GST portal?
The portal issues a provisional acknowledgment immediately, and the appeal is formally admitted when the final acknowledgment in APL-02 is issued after document verification. The appellate authority then fixes personal hearings, where your authorised representative argues the grounds and files written submissions and case law. Up to three adjournments may be granted per side. The authority must pass a speaking order, which it should endeavour to issue within one year of filing, and the outcome is communicated in a summary along with the order. The authority can confirm, modify or annul the order but cannot send the case back to the original officer.
How much pre-deposit do I have to pay for a GST appeal?
To file an appeal you must pay the admitted tax, interest and penalty in full, plus a pre-deposit of 10 percent of the disputed tax amount. Only the tax in dispute counts for the 10 percent; disputed interest and penalty do not require any pre-deposit, except that an appeal against an e-way bill detention penalty order under Section 129(3) requires payment of 25 percent of the penalty. Once the appeal is filed with this payment, recovery proceedings for the balance amount are deemed stayed until the appeal is decided. The pre-deposit can be paid from the electronic cash ledger, and courts have also accepted credit ledger payment for the tax component. ChennaiGST computes the exact pre-deposit for Nandanam clients so nothing extra is blocked.
Should I just pay the amount mentioned in a DRC-01A intimation?
Only after checking the working. DRC-01A is an invitation to settle before a show cause notice, and if you agree with the ascertainment you can pay through DRC-03 and intimate it in Part B, after which no notice is issued for that amount. In a Section 73 matter, paying with interest at this stage means zero penalty, which is a genuine saving. But officers' ascertainments often ignore reconciliations, eligible credits or amounts already paid. Verify the computation, pay only what is truly due, and contest the balance in Part B with reasons. ChennaiGST routinely trims DRC-01A figures for clients before payment.
I hold stock purchased before the September 2025 rate cuts at higher tax rates. What happens when I sell it now?
You charge the rate in force on the date of supply, so goods sold on or after 22 September 2025 carry the new lower rate even if you bought them when the rate was 12% or 28%. The input tax credit you took at the old, higher rate remains fully intact in your credit ledger and is not restricted merely because output is now taxed lower; it simply sets off across your overall liability. No stock declaration was required for this transition. What traders in Nandanam must avoid is selling old-MRP stock at prices that ignore the tax cut without reviewing pricing. Call +91 - 9600 606 444 for a transition check.
What is the default place of supply rule for services within India?
Section 12(2) of the IGST Act sets the general rule for domestic services: if the recipient is registered, the place of supply is the recipient's location; if unregistered, it is the recipient's address on your records, and failing that, the supplier's own location. So a consultant in Nandanam advising a registered company in Hyderabad charges IGST, while the same advice to a local walk-in individual attracts CGST plus SGST. This default yields only to the specific rules for immovable property, events, transportation, and a few other categories, so always check whether a specific rule captures your service before falling back on the general one.
Is GST payable on my YouTube AdSense earnings?
AdSense payments come from a Google entity located outside India and are remitted in convertible foreign exchange, so for an Indian creator this revenue generally qualifies as export of services, zero-rated when supplied under an LUT after registration. The income still counts towards your Rs.20 lakh aggregate turnover, so a creator whose combined receipts cross the threshold must register even if the entire revenue is export. Brand sponsorships from Indian companies, by contrast, are domestic supplies taxable at 18 percent. Keep the remittance advices safely, as they establish the forex receipt if you later claim a refund of input tax credit.
What is the electronic liability register on the GST portal and why should I check it?
The electronic liability register, maintained in Form PMT-01, records every liability raised against your GSTIN: self-assessed tax from returns in Part I, and demands from assessments, adjudication orders and DRC-07 summaries in Part II. Payments and pre-deposits are set off against these entries. You can view it under Services, then Ledgers. Checking Part II periodically matters because demand entries you never noticed can trigger recovery, interest accumulation and refund adjustments. During any refund claim, the officer will offset outstanding register balances, so a clean register speeds up your money. We review all three ledgers in every Nandanam health check.
I returned an advance because the deal was cancelled. What document do I issue?
It depends on how far the paperwork went. If you had issued only a receipt voucher and no tax invoice, you issue a refund voucher under Rule 51 when returning the advance, and the tax paid on that advance can be adjusted. If a tax invoice had already been issued, the cancellation is handled through a credit note under Section 34 instead. The refund voucher records the original receipt voucher reference, the amount refunded and the tax involved. Event managers and contractors see cancellations regularly, and using the wrong document between these two is a common reconciliation error.
What falls under the 18 percent standard rate of GST now?
The 18 percent slab is the standard rate for most services and for goods that are neither essentials nor demerit items. Notably, several products that earlier suffered 28 percent moved down to 18 percent from 22 September 2025: air conditioners, televisions of all sizes, dishwashers, cement, small cars and motorcycles up to 350cc, and most auto parts. Apparel and footwear priced above Rs.2,500 per piece also fall at 18 percent. Most professional, business support and repair services billed by professional firms continue at 18 percent with full input tax credit.
Which goods and services attract the new 40 percent GST rate?
The 40 percent rate is confined to luxury and demerit supplies. It covers aerated waters, caffeinated and other sugary carbonated beverages, large cars beyond the small-car specifications, motorcycles above 350cc, yachts, personal aircraft, and specified actionable claims such as betting, casinos and online money gaming. Pan masala and tobacco products continue under their earlier levy structure until the compensation cess obligations are discharged, after which they move to the 40 percent rate as notified. If your business deals in any of these lines, pricing and working capital need careful planning.
Can I get departmental audit support done online without visiting the office?
Yes, the entire process can be handled online. You share scanned documents on WhatsApp or email, we prepare and file everything on the GST portal, and you receive the acknowledgement and filed copies digitally. Businesses in Nandanam regularly complete audit support with us without a single office visit. If a physical verification or personal hearing is required by the department, we guide you through it.
What documents are required for departmental audit support in Nandanam?
For departmental audit support you will generally need: Copy of the audit notice ADT-01 with its annexure of records, GSTR-1, GSTR-3B, GSTR-9 and GSTR-9C for the audit periods, Audited financial statements and trial balance for the audit years, Sales and purchase registers with invoice access, Input tax credit register and GSTR-2A or 2B downloads. The exact list depends on your constitution — proprietorship, partnership, LLP or company — and on the specifics of your case. Send what you have on WhatsApp to +91 - 9600 606 444 and we will confirm within the same working day exactly what else is needed, so nothing is rejected later for a missing paper.
What is the process for departmental audit support?
The process runs in clear stages: Notice review and planning; Pre-audit reconciliation; Records submission; Query management. A senior consultant reviews your file at each stage rather than passing it to a data-entry desk, and you receive a confirmation with the filed documents once it is complete. You always know which stage your work is at — we update you on WhatsApp instead of leaving you to follow up.
