Trade Profile and GST Jurisdiction for Madhavaram

Madhavaram combines the CMDA truck terminal on Grand Northern Trunk Road, the historic Milk Colony dairy belt and rows of godowns and timber depots along Madhavaram High Road and the Inner Ring Road. Transporters and warehouse operators here deal constantly with reverse charge on freight and must register every godown as an additional place of business, which many miss until a notice arrives. We have supported businesses of exactly this profile with GST TDS Return GSTR-7 across Madhavaram for years, along with clients from Kolathur and Manali. The engagement is simple: one point of contact, a clear fee, documents over WhatsApp or in person at our Chennai office, and senior review before anything is submitted on the portal. What you get in return is clean filings, archived records and far fewer reasons for the department to write to you.

GST jurisdiction for Madhavaram (PIN 600060): businesses here generally fall under the CGST Chennai North Commissionerate. We regularly represent clients from Madhavaram before this jurisdiction for registrations, clarifications and notice hearings, and can confirm your exact division and range from your GSTIN. State-jurisdiction cases are handled with the Tamil Nadu Commercial Taxes Department.
GST for Auto Component Businesses in Madhavaram
Auto components moved to a uniform 18 percent from the earlier 28 percent slab with effect from 22 September 2025, simplifying rate disputes but tightening OEM compliance expectations. Suppliers in Madhavaram must issue e-invoices with IRNs that OEM systems validate before releasing payment, send goods for machining or plating on Rule 45 delivery challans, and report those job work movements in Form ITC-04. Parts replaced free of charge under warranty attract no further GST because tax was collected on the original composite price, a position clarified by CBIC in 2023. A specialist keeps the challan-to-ITC-04 trail complete so nothing is deemed a supply when job work runs long.
Yes, GST TDS Return GSTR-7 in Madhavaram can be completed fully online — no office visit is required at any stage, since e-signatures, OTP verification and digital document exchange cover the entire formality, with fees from Rs.999.
Why Us

Why Madhavaram Businesses Choose ChennaiGST

Not a bulk-filing portal. A senior consultant knows your file, your jurisdiction and your deadlines.

✓

Deadline Tracking Done for You

GSTR-1 by the 11th, GSTR-3B by the 20th, CMP-08 by the 18th after each quarter — we maintain a compliance calendar for every client and start chasing your data well before the due date, so late fees never enter the picture.

✓

Extra Hands During Filing Windows

In the days before the 11th and the 20th, our team runs extended hours and a strict internal queue, so a client who sends data late in the window is still filed on time. Peak-season crush at our end never becomes a late fee at yours.

✓

GSTR-9 and GSTR-9C Handled In-House

The annual return and, where turnover crosses Rs.5 crore, the self-certified reconciliation statement in GSTR-9C are prepared by the same team that filed your monthly returns. Nothing about your year has to be rediscovered or explained to a stranger in December.

✓

Reverse Charge Tracked, Not Forgotten

Freight paid to transporters, advocate fees, imported services and other notified supplies attract GST under reverse charge, with self-invoicing where the supplier is unregistered. We maintain a running RCM check every period, because this is the liability self-filers most consistently miss.

✓

E-Invoice and E-Way Bill Fluency

E-invoicing is mandatory once turnover crosses Rs.5 crore and e-way bills apply to goods movements above Rs.50,000. We set up, train and troubleshoot both systems, so your despatches from Madhavaram are never held up by a compliance gap at the gate.

✓

Fast, Clean Registrations and Amendments

New GSTIN applications, core field amendments through REG-14, additional places of business — we prepare complete, query-resistant applications the first time. Clean paperwork is the difference between smooth approval and weeks lost answering clarification memos from the department.

How It Works

Our GSTR-7 Filing Process

Payment data review

We examine the month's supplier payments against contracts to identify which payments cross the Rs.2.5 lakh contract threshold and attract deduction under Section 51.

Deduction computation

TDS is computed at 2% on the taxable value, split correctly between CGST and SGST or charged as IGST depending on the place of supply.

Return preparation

Deductee-wise details with GSTINs, invoice values and tax deducted are compiled into GSTR-7, validated against portal checks, and shared for your approval.

Filing and payment

The deducted tax is deposited and GSTR-7 is filed before the 10th of the month, and the filed acknowledgement is archived for your records.

Certificates and support

TDS certificates in GSTR-7A are generated for deductees, and we handle any supplier follow-up about credit reflecting in their electronic cash ledger.

Why a Specialist Matters

With ChennaiGST vs Doing It Yourself

AspectWith ChennaiGSTDIY / Unattended
Due-date trackingA maintained compliance calendar with internal cut-offs days before the 11th and the 20th; we chase you for data, not the other way around.Deadlines remembered from memory or phone alarms; one busy week and the return slips past the due date.
Goods in transitE-way bills generated correctly and matched to invoices, so consignments pass roadside inspections without detention or penalty.A defective or missing e-way bill can mean detention at a checkpoint, with penalties that dwarf the tax on the consignment.
Supplier defaultsSuppliers who stop uploading invoices are identified within the period and pursued before their default becomes your blocked credit.Missing supplier invoices surface only when credit is denied, by which time recovering the amount from the vendor is difficult.
Time costRoughly an hour a month to send data and approve drafts; the portal work, reconciliation and follow-up are ours.Hours every month lost to portal errors, JSON files, OTP failures and reworking figures — usually on the due date itself.
Annual return preparationMonthly reconciliations roll naturally into GSTR-9, filed comfortably before 31 December with figures already agreed through the year.Twelve months of unmatched data reconstructed in December, with differences discovered too late to be corrected cleanly.
Input tax creditPurchase register matched against GSTR-2B each period, with defaulting suppliers chased so eligible credit is actually captured.Credit claimed from books alone; mismatches with GSTR-2B mean lost credit or excess claims that invite departmental queries.

Circular

E-invoicing applies to supplies made to government departments registered for TDS

Circular No. 198/10/2023-GST · 2023-07-17

CBIC clarified that government departments, establishments, local authorities and agencies which have taken GST registration solely for the purpose of deducting tax at source under Section 51 are nevertheless registered persons. Supplies made to them are therefore business-to-business supplies, and a supplier crossing the e-invoicing turnover threshold must generate an invoice reference number for such supplies. The circular also addressed related e-invoice issues raised by trade bodies.

Practical effect: Contractors and suppliers billing government departments in Chennai must issue proper e-invoices once above the threshold, or risk the department disallowing the bill.

Notification

Pre-packaged and labelled food items brought to 5 per cent

Notification No. 6/2022-Central Tax (Rate), dated 13 July 2022 · 2022-07-13

Acting on the 47th GST Council recommendation, this notification rewrote the goods schedule so that curd, lassi, buttermilk, paneer, honey, cereals, pulses, flour, jaggery, puffed rice and similar staples attract five per cent when they are pre-packaged and labelled. The earlier test of whether the goods carried a registered brand name was abandoned, because it had been widely defeated by suppliers voluntarily forgoing brand registration. The change took effect from 18 July 2022.

What it means for you: From July 2022 a Chennai rice or flour dealer selling in labelled retail packs charges five per cent even if the pack carries no registered brand.

GST Council

Millet flour preparations exempted or cut to 5 per cent; molasses reduced from 28 to 5 per cent

52nd GST Council Meeting, New Delhi — 7 October 2023 · 2023-10-07

The Council recommended nil GST on food preparation of millet flour in powder form containing at least 70 per cent millets by weight when sold loose, and 5 per cent when pre-packaged and labelled. GST on molasses was slashed from 28 per cent to 5 per cent to benefit sugarcane farmers and reduce cattle feed costs. The Council also clarified that job work services of converting barley into malt attract the concessional 5 per cent rate applicable to job work in relation to food products, and not 18 per cent.

What to do about it: Food processors and cattle-feed traders in Tamil Nadu gained significant input cost relief and needed to re-price millet-based products.

FAQs

Frequently Asked Questions

Straight answers from practising GST consultants — based on the CGST Act, current CBIC notifications and day-to-day portal experience.

Do you provide gstr 7 filing for small businesses and proprietorships in Madhavaram?
Yes. A large share of our clients in Madhavaram are proprietors, small traders, shop owners, freelancers and family businesses rather than large companies. The fee of Rs.999/month and the process are the same regardless of size, and we explain the compliance position in plain language — in Tamil or English — so you understand what is being filed on your behalf and why.
Is there a GST consultant near Madhavaram for gstr 7 filing?
Yes. We serve Madhavaram and the surrounding areas from our office at Porur, Chennai - 600 116, Tamil Nadu, and most GSTR-7 filing work is completed online — you send documents on WhatsApp and we handle the portal work. If you prefer in-person help, we offer doorstep document pickup across Madhavaram and you are welcome to visit our office. Reach us on +91 - 9600 606 444 between 9 AM and 8 PM, Monday to Saturday.
What is the due date for filing GSTR-7?
GSTR-7, the return of tax deducted at source under GST, must be filed by the deductor by the 10th of the month following the month of deduction. The deducted amount must also be deposited with the government by the same date. Once GSTR-7 is filed, the deducted amount becomes visible to the supplier for acceptance, after which it credits their electronic cash ledger. Government offices and PSUs in Madhavaram often outsource this monthly cycle to us, since errors in deductee GSTINs are painful to correct later. Call +91 - 9600 606 444 for deductor support.
What is GSTR-7A and do I need to ask the department for it?
GSTR-7A is the TDS certificate under GST. It is system-generated on the portal automatically once the deductor files GSTR-7, so neither party needs to apply for it separately. The certificate shows the contract details, payment amount and tax deducted, and the supplier can download it from their own login for records and reconciliation. It is good practice to match GSTR-7A certificates against your receivables ledger each quarter, so that any short deduction or wrong GSTIN reported by a government deductor is caught early and corrected in their next return.
TDS was deducted on my government contract payment. How do I claim it?
After the deductor files GSTR-7, the deduction appears in your TDS and TCS credit received statement on the GST portal. Log in, open the statement for the relevant period, accept the entries and file it. On filing, the amount credits your electronic cash ledger, from where it can be used to pay tax in GSTR-3B or claimed as refund if it accumulates. Many contractors in Madhavaram forget this step and leave money sitting unclaimed for months. We check and accept TDS credits as part of our monthly return service.
What happens if a deductor files GSTR-7 late?
Late filing of GSTR-7 attracts a late fee of Rs.50 per day (Rs.25 CGST plus Rs.25 SGST), capped at Rs.2,000, and as per CBIC Notification 23/2024 the late fee is fully waived where no tax was deducted in the month. Interest at 18 percent per annum applies on TDS deducted but deposited late. Delay also blocks the supplier from receiving their credit, inviting follow-up calls and disputes. Drawing and disbursing officers in Madhavaram who handle this alongside other duties often retain us to run the monthly GSTR-7 cycle end to end.
Who is required to deduct TDS under GST?
Under Section 51 of the CGST Act, TDS is deducted by government departments, local authorities, governmental agencies, PSUs and notified persons when the total value of taxable supply under a contract exceeds Rs.2.5 lakh. The deduction is 2 percent of the payment made to the supplier, split as 1 percent CGST and 1 percent SGST for intra-state supplies, or 2 percent IGST for inter-state supplies. If your business in Madhavaram supplies to government bodies or PSUs, expect this deduction on your receipts and plan cash flow accordingly. We help both deductors and suppliers manage the compliance.
My shop in Madhavaram is on rent. What address proof do I upload for GST?
For rented premises, upload the registered or notarised rent agreement in the name of the business or proprietor, along with a document proving the landlord's ownership, such as a recent electricity bill or property tax receipt for the same address. If the rent agreement is not available, a consent letter or No Objection Certificate from the owner together with their ownership proof is accepted. Ensure the address on the agreement matches the address entered in REG-01 exactly, including door number and pin code, because mismatches are the most common reason officers issue REG-03 clarification notices.
I received a GSTR-3A notice for not filing my GST returns. What should I do?
GSTR-3A is a system-generated default notice issued under Section 46 when you fail to file a return such as GSTR-3B. You must file the pending return within fifteen days of the notice, along with the tax due, interest at 18 percent per annum and late fee of Rs.50 per day (Rs.20 per day for nil returns, both capped with reference to turnover). Once the return is filed within this window, no further action follows. If you have stopped business, apply for cancellation instead of leaving returns pending, because notices will keep coming every month.
How is GST charged in a joint development agreement between a landowner and builder?
Two supplies run in parallel. The landowner's transfer of development rights is taxable, but the developer pays that tax under reverse charge, and for residential projects the liability is exempt to the extent the apartments are booked before the completion certificate; tax applies on the rights attributable to flats lying unsold on that date, subject to a cap linked to the 1 or 5 percent rate on their value. Separately, the developer charges the landowner GST on the construction service for the owner's share of flats. JDA structuring decides cash flow for both parties, so Madhavaram landowners should model the tax before signing. Call +91 - 9600 606 444 for a working.
How do I file Form PMT-09 to move money between heads in my cash ledger?
Log in and open Services, then Ledgers, then Electronic Cash Ledger, and select File GST PMT-09 for transfer of amount. The screen shows your balance under each major and minor head. Choose the transfer-from head and amount, choose the transfer-to head, add the details to the table, preview and file with DSC or EVC. The transfer reflects in the ledger immediately and an ARN is generated for your records. There is no limit on how often PMT-09 can be filed, and no government fee applies, so it is always the first fix for a wrong-head deposit.
Why is there GST on an under-construction flat but not on a ready-to-move one?
Construction of an apartment intended for sale is a supply of service only when any part of the consideration is received before the completion certificate is issued or before first occupation. Such under-construction sales attract 1 percent for affordable residential apartments and 5 percent for other residential apartments, both without input tax credit to the builder. Once the completion certificate is issued, sale of the building is neither a supply of goods nor of services under Schedule III, so a ready-to-move flat carries no GST at all, only stamp duty and registration charges. Timing of booking therefore changes the buyer's cost materially.
Is a pure labour contract for building a house exempt from GST?
Two exemptions exist for pure labour contracts, meaning contracts where the contractor supplies only labour and the owner buys all materials. First, construction, erection or installation of original works pertaining to a single residential unit, otherwise than as part of a residential complex, is exempt. Second, pure labour services under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana for beneficiary-led individual house construction are exempt. Outside these, labour contracts are taxable at 18 percent. A mason team building one independent house in Madhavaram on labour-only terms therefore charges no GST, but the same team working on an apartment project must.
We conduct training programmes and events in different cities. Which state's GST applies?
Two rules operate. For admission to an event, including tickets to exhibitions or conferences, the place of supply is where the event is held. For organising an event or providing training, the place of supply is the registered recipient's location when the client is registered; if the client is unregistered, it shifts to the venue where the event or training is actually performed. So a Madhavaram trainer running a workshop in Hyderabad for a registered Chennai company charges CGST plus SGST of Tamil Nadu, but the same workshop sold to unregistered individuals is taxed in Telangana. Invoice each engagement after checking the client's registration.
What GST rate applies to cars and two-wheelers now?
Small cars, meaning petrol cars up to 1200cc and diesel cars up to 1500cc with length not exceeding 4 metres, attract 18 percent GST, down sharply from the earlier 28 percent plus cess. Larger cars, SUVs above these specifications, attract the 40 percent rate, but with the compensation cess gone, the overall burden on most of them is still lower than before. Motorcycles up to 350cc are at 18 percent, while those above 350cc attract 40 percent. Electric vehicles continue at a concessional 5 percent. Dealers must also apply these rates to demo vehicle sales.
Why is my e-way bill generation blocked on the portal?
Under Rule 138E, the e-way bill facility is blocked when a taxpayer has not filed GSTR-3B (or CMP-08 for composition dealers) for two or more consecutive tax periods. Since an e-way bill is mandatory for moving goods worth more than Rs.50,000, blocking effectively halts dispatches. The remedy is straightforward: file the pending returns with late fee and interest, after which the facility unblocks automatically, usually the next day. Transporters and suppliers can also be affected when a counterparty GSTIN is blocked. We clear return backlogs for businesses in Madhavaram on priority; call +91 - 9600 606 444.
How do I decide whether to charge CGST plus SGST or IGST on an invoice?
Compare two data points: the location of the supplier and the place of supply determined under the IGST Act. If both fall in the same state, the supply is intra-state and you charge CGST plus SGST; if they fall in different states, it is inter-state and you charge IGST. The buyer's billing address alone is not the test; the place of supply rules for the specific goods or service govern. Common traps include hotel stays, property-linked services and bill-to ship-to chains, where the place of supply departs from the customer's address. Configuring these rules in your billing software saves Madhavaram businesses repeated corrections; call +91 - 9600 606 444 for a setup review.
I hold stock purchased before the September 2025 rate cuts at higher tax rates. What happens when I sell it now?
You charge the rate in force on the date of supply, so goods sold on or after 22 September 2025 carry the new lower rate even if you bought them when the rate was 12% or 28%. The input tax credit you took at the old, higher rate remains fully intact in your credit ledger and is not restricted merely because output is now taxed lower; it simply sets off across your overall liability. No stock declaration was required for this transition. What traders in Madhavaram must avoid is selling old-MRP stock at prices that ignore the tax cut without reviewing pricing. Call +91 - 9600 606 444 for a transition check.
