Trade Profile and GST Jurisdiction for Madhavaram

Choosing GST for E-Commerce Sellers in Madhavaram is ultimately an act of trust: you are handing over sales figures, purchase records and portal access. Madhavaram combines the CMDA truck terminal on Grand Northern Trunk Road, the historic Milk Colony dairy belt and rows of godowns and timber depots along Madhavaram High Road and the Inner Ring Road. Transporters and warehouse operators here deal constantly with reverse charge on freight and must register every godown as an additional place of business, which many miss until a notice arrives. We earn that trust the unglamorous way — fixed fees honoured, drafts approved by you before filing, acknowledgements shared the same day, and strict confidentiality throughout. Clients across Madhavaram, Kolathur and Manali have stayed with us for years on precisely this basis.

GST jurisdiction for Madhavaram (PIN 600060): businesses here generally fall under the CGST Chennai North Commissionerate. We regularly represent clients from Madhavaram before this jurisdiction for registrations, clarifications and notice hearings, and can confirm your exact division and range from your GSTIN. State-jurisdiction cases are handled with the Tamil Nadu Commercial Taxes Department.
GST for Professional Services Firms in Madhavaram
Professional firms bill at 18 percent, but the mechanics differ by profession: services of advocates to business entities are taxed in the client's hands under reverse charge, while chartered accountants, company secretaries and architects charge tax on their own invoices. Fees received in advance are taxable on receipt, and retainers must be invoiced within the time limits of Section 31(2). Amounts recovered from clients as a pure agent, such as government fees paid on their behalf, stay outside taxable value only if every condition of Rule 33 is met and documented. A specialist sets up retainer invoicing, pure agent documentation and branch cross-charges correctly; call +91 - 9600 606 444 to discuss your firm.
For GST for E-Commerce Sellers in Madhavaram, you typically need your PAN, Aadhaar, business address proof, bank details and relevant invoices; the exact checklist is shared on WhatsApp and fees start at Rs.1,499.
Why Us

Why Madhavaram Businesses Choose ChennaiGST

Not a bulk-filing portal. A senior consultant knows your file, your jurisdiction and your deadlines.

✓

A Real Local Office You Can Walk Into

We are a Chennai firm with a physical office, not a faceless portal. If you prefer to sit across a table with your papers, you are welcome. Clients from Madhavaram regularly visit us for registrations, notice discussions and annual return reviews.

✓

Extra Hands During Filing Windows

In the days before the 11th and the 20th, our team runs extended hours and a strict internal queue, so a client who sends data late in the window is still filed on time. Peak-season crush at our end never becomes a late fee at yours.

✓

ITC Maximisation Within the Law

We match your purchase register against GSTR-2B every period, follow up on invoices your suppliers have not uploaded, and ensure every rupee of eligible input tax credit is claimed. Clients routinely recover credit they were silently losing under self-filing.

✓

Support Through Audits and Hearings

When an ADT-01 audit intimation or a personal hearing date arrives, we compile the records, prepare the reconciliations and draft the submissions, and coordinate closely with your authorised representative. You walk into the proceeding prepared, not improvising in front of an officer.

✓

GSTR-9 and GSTR-9C Handled In-House

The annual return and, where turnover crosses Rs.5 crore, the self-certified reconciliation statement in GSTR-9C are prepared by the same team that filed your monthly returns. Nothing about your year has to be rediscovered or explained to a stranger in December.

✓

Handholding for First-Time Registrants

A new GSTIN comes with obligations nobody explains at approval — the invoice series rules, displaying the registration certificate and GSTIN at your premises, and the first return cycle. We walk new registrants in Madhavaram through each of these so month one starts correctly.

How It Works

Our E-Commerce GST Process

Report collection

Each month we collect sales, settlement and returns reports from every marketplace you sell on, plus purchase bills and marketplace commission invoices.

Data transformation

Marketplace data is converted into GST-ready figures: state-wise B2C supplies by place of supply, B2B invoices where applicable, and credit notes for customer returns.

Return filing

GSTR-1 is filed by the 11th and GSTR-3B by the 20th, with input tax credit on commissions, shipping and inventory purchases reconciled against GSTR-2B.

TCS reconciliation

TCS reported by operators in GSTR-8 is accepted on the portal, matched against your sales, and differences are traced to returns, cancellations or timing.

Monthly review

You receive a seller compliance summary covering sales by state, tax paid, TCS credits claimed and pending mismatches, with alerts on any new marketplace requirement.

Checklist

Documents Required for GST for E-Commerce Sellers

Send these on WhatsApp (+91 - 9600 606 444) and we take it forward the same day.

Outcomes

What You Get

Practical outcomes our clients measure us by.

★

Marketplace Accounts That Stay Live

E-commerce platforms continuously validate seller GSTINs and filing status. A consistently compliant registration keeps your listings active and settlements flowing, with no sudden suspension of your online sales channel.

★

Bank and Tender Readiness

Loan applications and government tenders routinely demand GST returns and registration documents. With everything filed and archived properly, you can produce a complete compliance file within hours instead of days.

★

Better Cash Flow Planning

You know your expected GST outflow days before the 20th, not on the night of filing. That advance visibility lets you plan payments, collections and bank balances instead of scrambling for funds at the deadline.

★

Smooth Scheme Transitions

Whether moving between composition and regular scheme, opting into QRMP, or crossing the e-invoice threshold at Rs.5 crore, transitions are planned in advance rather than discovered after a compliance breach.

★

Tax Paid Under the Right Head

Getting IGST versus CGST and SGST right at the invoice stage spares you the painful cycle of paying the correct head again and pursuing a refund of the amount paid under the wrong one.

★

A Professional Face on Every Invoice

Correct, complete tax invoices signal a well-run business to customers, vendors and banks alike, quietly strengthening your credibility in every transaction where your paperwork is seen.

Why a Specialist Matters

With ChennaiGST vs Doing It Yourself

AspectWith ChennaiGSTDIY / Unattended
Risk of noticesGSTR-1, GSTR-3B and GSTR-2B reconciled before filing, removing the mismatches that trigger most scrutiny notices.Inconsistent figures across returns quietly build a mismatch history that surfaces later as ASMT-10 scrutiny or a demand notice.
Due-date trackingA maintained compliance calendar with internal cut-offs days before the 11th and the 20th; we chase you for data, not the other way around.Deadlines remembered from memory or phone alarms; one busy week and the return slips past the due date.
Time costRoughly an hour a month to send data and approve drafts; the portal work, reconciliation and follow-up are ours.Hours every month lost to portal errors, JSON files, OTP failures and reworking figures — usually on the due date itself.
Supplier defaultsSuppliers who stop uploading invoices are identified within the period and pursued before their default becomes your blocked credit.Missing supplier invoices surface only when credit is denied, by which time recovering the amount from the vendor is difficult.
Goods in transitE-way bills generated correctly and matched to invoices, so consignments pass roadside inspections without detention or penalty.A defective or missing e-way bill can mean detention at a checkpoint, with penalties that dwarf the tax on the consignment.
When a notice arrivesA professional drafts the reply in the department's format and files it within the statutory window, such as thirty days for ASMT-11.You face departmental language alone, and a missed reply deadline can convert a simple query into a demand with penalty.

Recent GST Law You Should Know — relevant to Madhavaram businesses

Real notifications, rulings and case law our consultants track — and apply to client filings and notice replies.

Notification

Concessional rates for handicraft goods

Notification No. 21/2018-Central Tax (Rate), dated 26 July 2018 (G.S.R. 695(E)) · 2018-07-26

This notification created a dedicated table of handicraft items with concessional rates, covering handcrafted candles, carved and inlaid wood products, wooden frames, art ware of cork and sholapith, basketwork and mats of vegetable material including korai mats, handmade paper, papier mache articles, coir products, handmade carpets, bamboo and cane ware. It operated independently of the main goods schedule so that genuine artisan output was not pushed into higher slabs by tariff classification.

How we apply it: Traders in korai mats, coir goods and wooden handicrafts from Tamil Nadu should classify under this notification rather than the general chapter rate.

Portal Advisory

Inter-state retail invoices above Rs 1 lakh must be reported individually

GSTN Advisory, September 2024 — implementation of the reduced Table 5 threshold notified by Notification No. 12/2024-Central Tax, dated 10 July 2024 · 2024-09

The threshold for invoice-wise reporting of inter-state supplies to unregistered persons in Table 5 of GSTR-1 and the corresponding table of GSTR-5 was reduced from Rs 2.5 lakh to Rs 1 lakh. GSTN implemented the change on the portal and advised taxpayers that each inter-state business-to-consumer invoice above Rs 1 lakh must now be reported separately with the place of supply, instead of being merged into the consolidated state-wise summary in Table 7.

What to do about it: Configure your billing software to flag inter-state retail bills above Rs 1 lakh, since a wrong place of supply here creates state-level revenue mismatch notices.

GST Council

Rate schedule for goods and compensation cess approved at Srinagar

14th GST Council Meeting, Srinagar — 18-19 May 2017 (PIB Release ID 1490274) · 2017-05-18

The Council completed the fitment exercise for goods and broadly approved GST rates at nil, five, twelve, eighteen and twenty-eight per cent across the tariff, along with the rates of GST compensation cess to be levied on specified goods. The chapter-wise, rate-wise schedule dated 18 May 2017 was published on the CBEC website immediately after the meeting, subject to further vetting, and formed the basis of the rate notifications issued for the 1 July 2017 rollout.

What to do about it: The original HSN-wise rate schedule for your products dates from this meeting; classification disputes often turn on how an item was fitted here.

FAQs

Frequently Asked Questions

Straight answers from practising GST consultants — based on the CGST Act, current CBIC notifications and day-to-day portal experience.

How much does GST for e-commerce sellers cost in Madhavaram?
Our fee for GST for e-commerce sellers in Madhavaram starts at Rs.1,499/month and is quoted in full before we begin — there are no hidden charges added later. The fee covers professional work end to end: document review, preparation, filing and follow-up until completion. Government fees or portal charges, where applicable, are separate and always shown to you upfront. For an exact quote based on your turnover and business type, call +91 - 9600 606 444 and a consultant will confirm it on the call.
How long does GST for e-commerce sellers take in Madhavaram?
Monthly, aligned to the 11th and 20th due dates. That assumes your documents are complete and there is no departmental query. We start the same day we receive your papers and tell you the realistic completion date upfront rather than an optimistic one. Where the GST portal or the officer causes delay — clarifications, physical verification or system issues — we track it daily and keep you informed on WhatsApp.
Can I use my home in Madhavaram as the business address for e-commerce GST registration?
Yes. A residential address can be declared as the principal place of business for GST registration, supported by proof such as an electricity bill or property tax receipt, along with a consent letter or rental agreement if the premises are not in your name. Marketplace sellers commonly operate from home in the early stage, and Amazon, Flipkart and Meesho accept a home-based GSTIN. Ensure the address on the marketplace exactly matches the registration certificate to avoid onboarding rejections. We handle home-based seller registrations in Madhavaram regularly and can advise on the exact documents.
What is the TCS that Amazon and Flipkart deduct from my payments?
E-commerce operators must collect tax at source under Section 52 on the net value of taxable supplies made through their platform. The rate is 0.5 percent (0.25 percent CGST plus 0.25 percent SGST, or 0.5 percent IGST), reduced from 1 percent with effect from 10 July 2024. This is not an extra tax on you; it is a collection deposited against your GSTIN, which you claim back through the portal and use to pay your own liability. Sellers in Madhavaram should reconcile TCS monthly, since unclaimed amounts quietly pile up.
How do I claim the TCS collected by the marketplace against my GST liability?
Log in to the GST portal and open the TDS and TCS credit received statement for the month. The TCS reported by each operator against your GSTIN appears there; accept the entries and file the statement. The accepted amount credits your electronic cash ledger and can be used to pay tax in GSTR-3B. If TCS keeps accumulating beyond your liability, a refund of the cash ledger balance can be claimed through RFD-01. We do this acceptance every month for our e-commerce clients in Madhavaram so no credit is ever left behind.
How do I match my Amazon settlement reports with my GST returns?
Use the Merchant Tax Report (MTR) from Seller Central rather than the settlement report for GSTR-1, since it lists taxable value, tax and place of supply invoice-wise. Sales returns and cancellations must be netted through credit notes in GSTR-1. Separately, claim input tax credit on Amazon's commission, shipping and advertising invoices, which appear in your GSTR-2B under Amazon's GSTIN. Finally, compare the TCS reported in GSTR-8 with your own filed turnover; persistent gaps attract department notices. This three-way reconciliation is standard in our monthly service for marketplace sellers.
I sell on Meesho from home. What GST returns do I need to file?
As a registered marketplace seller you file GSTR-1 by the 11th and GSTR-3B by the 20th of each month, or their quarterly equivalents under QRMP with GSTR-3B due on the 22nd in Tamil Nadu. Each month you also accept the TCS credit that Meesho reports through GSTR-8. Your GSTR-1 must be prepared from Meesho's sales and returns reports, adjusting for customer returns and cancellations, which is where most self-filers go wrong. Our e-commerce package at Rs.1,499 per month covers report reconciliation, both returns and TCS claims. Call +91 - 9600 606 444 to enrol.
Amazon is asking me to take GST registration in other states for FBA. Is that required?
If you store stock in Amazon fulfilment centres located in other states, each such warehouse becomes a place of business in that state, and you need a separate GST registration there declaring the warehouse as an additional place of business. Sales then flow from the state where the stock sits, and you file returns for every GSTIN you hold. Many sellers begin with a single Tamil Nadu registration and expand as volumes grow. We manage multi-state registrations and consolidated return filing from our office, so a seller in Madhavaram can operate FBA nationally without compliance headaches.
My company has taken a residential flat on rent. Why is our accountant paying GST on it?
Because of a reverse charge entry effective 18 July 2022: renting of a residential dwelling to a registered person attracts 18 percent GST payable by the tenant under reverse charge, even when the landlord is unregistered. Renting to unregistered individuals for residence remains fully exempt. There is a carve-out from 1 January 2023: a proprietor renting a dwelling in his personal capacity for use as his own residence, on his own account and not for the business, is exempt. Companies and firms renting flats, including for guest houses, must therefore pay RCM monthly through GSTR-3B. We correct many such missed entries during our compliance health checks.
How long is an LUT valid and when should I renew it?
An LUT filed in Form RFD-11 is valid for the financial year in which it is furnished, so it expires on 31 March and must be filed afresh for each new financial year. The sensible practice is to file the new LUT in the last week of March or the first week of April so there is no gap, because exports invoiced without a valid LUT technically require payment of IGST. The portal generates an ARN instantly on filing, and the LUT is deemed accepted. ChennaiGST files LUT renewals for exporters in Madhavaram for Rs.1,499.
My turnover is below the limit. Should I still take GST registration voluntarily?
Voluntary registration is allowed under Section 25(3) even below the threshold, and it makes sense in specific situations: your corporate customers insist on GST invoices, you want to claim input tax credit on purchases, you plan to sell on e-commerce platforms, or you want to export under LUT. The trade-off is real: once registered, you must charge GST, file GSTR-1 by the 11th and GSTR-3B by the 20th of every month or opt for the quarterly QRMP scheme, even for nil turnover. Weigh compliance cost against credit benefit before deciding; many small Madhavaram businesses do benefit.
How is interest calculated on a GST demand or late payment?
Interest runs at 18 percent per annum under Section 50 on tax paid after the due date, computed day-wise from the day following the due date until payment. Following amendments, interest on delayed GSTR-3B liability applies on the portion paid through the electronic cash ledger, and interest on wrongly availed ITC arises where the credit has been both availed and utilised. Interest is payable even where no penalty applies, and it cannot be waived by the officer. Because interest compounds silently over long disputes, paying the admitted tax early through DRC-03, even while contesting the rest, often saves a substantial amount.
The GST rate on my product changed. Which rate applies to pending orders and invoices?
Section 14 of the CGST Act decides this by looking at three events: the date of supply, the date of invoice and the date of payment. Broadly, if any two of the three events fall after the rate change, the new rate applies; if two fall before, the old rate applies. So goods delivered in Madhavaram before 22 September 2025 but invoiced and paid for afterwards attract the new rate, while goods delivered and invoiced earlier keep the old rate even if payment came later. Document dates carefully during any transition window, because officers test these invoices in scrutiny.
What are the common types of GST notices a business can receive?
The frequent ones are: REG-03 seeking clarification on a registration application; GSTR-3A for non-filing of returns; ASMT-10 pointing out discrepancies found on scrutiny of returns; DRC-01A intimating an ascertained tax liability before formal proceedings; DRC-01, the show cause notice under Section 73 or 74; ADT-01 intimating a departmental audit; REG-17 proposing cancellation of registration; RFD-08 proposing rejection of a refund claim; and summons under Section 70. Each has its own reply form and deadline, ranging from seven working days to thirty days, so identifying the notice type correctly is the first step in responding. When in doubt, call +91 - 9600 606 444.
Is a pure labour contract for building a house exempt from GST?
Two exemptions exist for pure labour contracts, meaning contracts where the contractor supplies only labour and the owner buys all materials. First, construction, erection or installation of original works pertaining to a single residential unit, otherwise than as part of a residential complex, is exempt. Second, pure labour services under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana for beneficiary-led individual house construction are exempt. Outside these, labour contracts are taxable at 18 percent. A mason team building one independent house in Madhavaram on labour-only terms therefore charges no GST, but the same team working on an apartment project must.
I hold stock purchased before the September 2025 rate cuts at higher tax rates. What happens when I sell it now?
You charge the rate in force on the date of supply, so goods sold on or after 22 September 2025 carry the new lower rate even if you bought them when the rate was 12% or 28%. The input tax credit you took at the old, higher rate remains fully intact in your credit ledger and is not restricted merely because output is now taxed lower; it simply sets off across your overall liability. No stock declaration was required for this transition. What traders in Madhavaram must avoid is selling old-MRP stock at prices that ignore the tax cut without reviewing pricing. Call +91 - 9600 606 444 for a transition check.
How many digits of the HSN code must I print on my tax invoices?
Under Notification 78/2020 Central Tax, taxpayers with aggregate turnover up to Rs.5 crore in the preceding financial year must mention a 4-digit HSN code on all B2B tax invoices, though it is optional on B2C invoices. Taxpayers with turnover above Rs.5 crore must mention 6-digit HSN codes on every invoice, including B2C. Eight digits are required for specified goods such as certain chemicals and for export documentation. Services follow the same rule using SAC codes, which begin with 99. Printing truncated or wrong codes on invoices creates mismatches later, so set the codes correctly in your billing software once.
Which everyday goods now attract 5 percent GST?
The 5 percent slab now covers most household essentials that earlier fell in the 12 or 18 percent brackets: soaps, shampoos, toothpaste and toothbrushes, hair oil, bicycles, kitchen utensils and tableware. Packaged foods such as butter, ghee, cheese, namkeens, sauces, pasta, biscuits and chocolates are also at 5 percent, as are most medicines, medical devices and agricultural machinery. Apparel and footwear priced up to Rs.2,500 per piece attract 5 percent as well. Retailers in Madhavaram should update billing software rate masters item by item rather than assuming old rates continue.
Can I get GST for e-commerce sellers done online without visiting the office?
Yes, the entire process can be handled online. You share scanned documents on WhatsApp or email, we prepare and file everything on the GST portal, and you receive the acknowledgement and filed copies digitally. Businesses in Madhavaram regularly complete e-commerce GST with us without a single office visit. If a physical verification or personal hearing is required by the department, we guide you through it.
What documents are required for GST for e-commerce sellers in Madhavaram?
For GST for e-commerce sellers you will generally need: Marketplace sales reports such as Amazon MTR or Flipkart sales report, Settlement or payment reports from each marketplace, GST portal login credentials, Purchase invoices for input tax credit, Customer return and refund reports for credit note adjustment. The exact list depends on your constitution — proprietorship, partnership, LLP or company — and on the specifics of your case. Send what you have on WhatsApp to +91 - 9600 606 444 and we will confirm within the same working day exactly what else is needed, so nothing is rejected later for a missing paper.
Which GST office handles Madhavaram businesses?
Businesses in Madhavaram (PIN 600060) generally fall under the CGST Chennai North Commissionerate, with state-jurisdiction cases handled by the Tamil Nadu Commercial Taxes Department. Your exact division and range can be confirmed from your GSTIN on the GST portal. We regularly appear before this jurisdiction for registrations, clarifications and hearings, so we know the local practice and documentation preferences.
