Trade Profile and GST Jurisdiction for Mount - Medavakkam Road, Kovilambakkam

Kovilambakkam straddles Medavakkam Main Road and the Pallavaram - Thoraipakkam Radial Road near Eachangadu Junction and the Keelkattalai Flyover, with apartment promoters, tile and hardware showrooms, timber depots, packers-and-movers and car workshops along Ezhumalai Road and Sathya Nagar Main Road. Promoters here mishandle the affordable-housing value cap and the input credit reversal on flats left unsold at completion certificate. When businesses of this kind evaluate GST Notice Reply, the real question is not price alone but who answers when something goes wrong. We serve Kovilambakkam, Keelkattalai and Madipakkam on a standing commitment: responses within the same working day, senior scrutiny before every submission, and continued support if the department ever writes back on work carrying our preparation.

GST jurisdiction for Kovilambakkam (PIN 600129): businesses here generally fall under the CGST Chennai South Commissionerate. We regularly represent clients from Kovilambakkam before this jurisdiction for registrations, clarifications and notice hearings, and can confirm your exact division and range from your GSTIN. State-jurisdiction cases are handled with the Tamil Nadu Commercial Taxes Department.
GST for Professional Services Firms in Kovilambakkam
Professional firms bill at 18 percent, but the mechanics differ by profession: services of advocates to business entities are taxed in the client's hands under reverse charge, while chartered accountants, company secretaries and architects charge tax on their own invoices. Fees received in advance are taxable on receipt, and retainers must be invoiced within the time limits of Section 31(2). Amounts recovered from clients as a pure agent, such as government fees paid on their behalf, stay outside taxable value only if every condition of Rule 33 is met and documented. A specialist sets up retainer invoicing, pure agent documentation and branch cross-charges correctly; call +91 - 9600 606 444 to discuss your firm.
For GST Notice Reply in Kovilambakkam the working timeline is Draft reply in 3-5 working days, counted from the point your documents are complete. The realistic completion date is confirmed to you in writing before work starts, and the acknowledgement is shared on WhatsApp immediately after filing.
Why Us

Why Mount - Medavakkam Road, Kovilambakkam Businesses Choose ChennaiGST

Not a bulk-filing portal. A senior consultant knows your file, your jurisdiction and your deadlines.

Extra Hands During Filing Windows

In the days before the 11th and the 20th, our team runs extended hours and a strict internal queue, so a client who sends data late in the window is still filed on time. Peak-season crush at our end never becomes a late fee at yours.

Support in Tamil and English

GST is confusing enough without a language barrier. Our team explains notices, tax positions and filing requirements in plain Tamil or English, whichever you and your staff in Kovilambakkam are comfortable with, and keeps written communication simple and jargon-free.

Clean Exits When a Business Closes

Winding up attracts its own GST obligations — the cancellation application, reversal of credit on closing stock, and the final return in GSTR-10 within three months. We close registrations properly so a business you shut in Kovilambakkam never writes back to you as a demand years later.

Complete Documentation, Properly Archived

Every acknowledgement, challan, computation sheet and filed return is saved and shared with you in an organised folder. When a bank, buyer or GST officer asks for a document from two years ago, it reaches you the same day without any scrambling.

Strict Data Confidentiality

Your sales figures, supplier lists and login credentials are handled only by our engaged team, stored securely and never shared with any third party. Many of our clients in Kovilambakkam compete with each other; complete confidentiality is a condition of our work.

Zero Tolerance for Late Fees and Interest

GSTR-3B late fees run at Rs.50 per day and interest at 18 percent per annum on unpaid tax. Our internal cut-offs sit days ahead of statutory due dates precisely so that our clients never hand the department a rupee they did not owe.

How It Works

Our Notice Reply Process

Notice study

We read the notice line by line, identify the section invoked, the periods covered, the exact information sought and the deadline for response.

Data reconciliation

The figures alleged in the notice are reconciled against your filed returns, GSTR-2B and books, so the reply is grounded in verifiable numbers rather than assertions.

Reply drafting

We draft a professional, point-wise reply addressing every allegation, attaching reconciliations, invoices and legal support, and share the draft with you for approval.

Filing and payment

The approved reply is filed on the portal within the deadline. Where a small genuine liability exists, we advise payment through DRC-03 to limit interest and penalty.

Closure tracking

We monitor the portal for the officer's response, attend to any further queries or hearing dates, and pursue the matter until a closure or order is received.

Outcomes

What You Get

Practical outcomes our clients measure us by.

Supplier Risk Caught Early

We spot suppliers who stop uploading invoices or filing returns and alert you before their default becomes your blocked credit, letting you recover amounts or switch vendors while the exposure is still small.

Annual Returns Without the Year-End Scramble

Because monthly data is reconciled as it happens, GSTR-9 preparation before the 31 December due date becomes a review exercise rather than a painful reconstruction of twelve untidy months.

Waiver Benefits Never Missed

Late-fee waivers and amnesty windows notified by the GST Council are applied to your history within their deadlines, capturing reliefs that most businesses only hear about once the window has already closed.

The Lowest Tax Position the Law Allows

Your scheme choice — regular, composition or QRMP — is re-examined as turnover and margins change, so you are always paying under the structure that legitimately costs your business the least.

Closure Without Loose Ends

When a business winds up, proper cancellation and a timely final return ensure the file is genuinely closed, so no demand or late-fee computation resurfaces against you long after the shutters came down.

Audit-Ready Records at All Times

Filed returns, challans, reconciliations and working papers are archived in order from day one. If an audit or departmental verification comes, your file is ready the same week, not assembled in a panic.

Why a Specialist Matters

With ChennaiGST vs Doing It Yourself

AspectWith ChennaiGSTDIY / Unattended
Goods in transitE-way bills generated correctly and matched to invoices, so consignments pass roadside inspections without detention or penalty.A defective or missing e-way bill can mean detention at a checkpoint, with penalties that dwarf the tax on the consignment.
Risk of noticesGSTR-1, GSTR-3B and GSTR-2B reconciled before filing, removing the mismatches that trigger most scrutiny notices.Inconsistent figures across returns quietly build a mismatch history that surfaces later as ASMT-10 scrutiny or a demand notice.
Due-date trackingA maintained compliance calendar with internal cut-offs days before the 11th and the 20th; we chase you for data, not the other way around.Deadlines remembered from memory or phone alarms; one busy week and the return slips past the due date.
Refund claimsRFD-01 filed with complete statements and annexures, tracked from ARN to bank credit, with any deficiency memo answered promptly.Incomplete claims bounce back as deficiency memos while the refund sits unclaimed for months and working capital stays blocked.
Record keepingEvery return, challan, acknowledgement and working paper archived in an organised folder, retrievable in minutes years later.Documents scattered across email, downloads and old phones; assembling records for a bank or an audit takes days.
Portal credentials and dataLogins handled by a small engaged team under strict confidentiality, with credentials stored securely and never passed onward.Passwords circulating on chats with freelancers and part-timers, and no accountability for who has accessed your business data.

Circular

Extruded savoury snacks at 12 per cent, car seats and railway air conditioners clarified

Circular No. 235/29/2024-GST, dated 11 October 2024 · 2024-10-11

Implementing the 54th GST Council decisions, CBIC clarified that extruded or expanded savoury or salted products other than un-fried snack pellets fall under tariff item 1905 90 30 and attract twelve per cent prospectively, while un-fried or uncooked snack pellets continue at five per cent. Roof-mounted package unit air conditioning machines for railway coaches were held classifiable under heading 8415 and not as railway parts, and the rate position on motor car seats was settled.

How we apply it: Namkeen and extruded snack manufacturers must apply the clarified rate prospectively and can rely on the circular's regularisation for earlier supplies.

AAR Ruling

Association maintenance taxed on the whole amount once the limit is crossed

TVH Lumbini Square Owners Association - AAR Tamil Nadu, Order No. 25/ARA/2019, dated 21 June 2019 · 2019-06-21

A residents welfare association collected monthly maintenance contributions from its members. The Authority held that where the contribution per member exceeds Rs. 7,500 a month, GST is payable on the entire contribution and not merely on the amount above Rs. 7,500. The Madras High Court subsequently held, in Greenwood Owners Association, that only the excess over Rs. 7,500 is taxable, and associations now follow that judicial position.

What to do about it: Chennai apartment associations should apply the High Court position carefully and keep member-wise workings ready for departmental scrutiny.

GST Council

Reverse charge on unregistered purchases deferred again to 30 June 2018

26th GST Council Meeting, New Delhi — 10 March 2018 (PIB Release ID 1523715) · 2018-03-10

The liability to pay tax on reverse charge basis on supplies received from unregistered persons, already suspended at the 22nd meeting until 31 March 2018, was deferred further to 30 June 2018. A Group of Ministers was appointed to examine the modalities of implementation so that no inconvenience would be caused to trade and industry. The provision was ultimately never revived in its original form and was replaced by a narrower, notified-goods version at the 28th meeting.

Why this matters: Section 9(4) reverse charge on ordinary unregistered purchases never operated after 12 October 2017, which is a complete answer to demands raised on that footing for later periods.

Already Holding the Notice? Read It in About a Minute

Upload the PDF to our free GST Notice Analyser. It identifies which of 34 notice types you have, pulls out the DIN, GSTIN and tax period, reads the reply date printed on the notice and tells you plainly whether that date has already passed — along with the documents and reconciliations you will need. No payment, no account. If the notice does not state a date we can read, it says so rather than guessing one for you.

Analyse my notice — free WhatsApp it to a consultant

The analyser reports what your notice says and the statutory position for that form. It is not a substitute for a consultant reading your actual records, and a reply should be reviewed before you file it.

FAQs

Frequently Asked Questions

Straight answers from practising GST consultants — based on the CGST Act, current CBIC notifications and day-to-day portal experience.

How much does GST notice reply cost in Kovilambakkam?
Our fee for GST notice reply in Kovilambakkam starts at Rs.2,999 and is quoted in full before we begin — there are no hidden charges added later. The fee covers professional work end to end: document review, preparation, filing and follow-up until completion. Government fees or portal charges, where applicable, are separate and always shown to you upfront. For an exact quote based on your turnover and business type, call +91 - 9600 606 444 and a consultant will confirm it on the call.
Can I get GST notice reply done online without visiting the office?
Yes, the entire process can be handled online. You share scanned documents on WhatsApp or email, we prepare and file everything on the GST portal, and you receive the acknowledgement and filed copies digitally. Businesses in Kovilambakkam regularly complete notice reply with us without a single office visit. If a physical verification or personal hearing is required by the department, we guide you through it.
I missed the deadline to reply to a GST notice. What are my options now?
Act immediately, because delay narrows your options. If no order has been passed yet, file a belated reply with a condonation request explaining the delay and appear at the personal hearing; officers frequently take late replies on record before adjudicating. If an ex parte order has already been issued, you can file an appeal in Form APL-01 within three months of the order, paying the mandatory pre-deposit of 10 percent of the disputed tax. Many Kovilambakkam taxpayers discover notices only after the order stage because they never checked the Additional Notices tab, so a quick portal review is the first step.
I applied for GST registration in Kovilambakkam and received a REG-03 notice. What does it mean?
Form REG-03 is a notice seeking clarification on your GST registration application. The officer may question your proof of principal place of business, promoter identity documents or the nature of business declared. You must reply in Form REG-04 within seven working days of the notice, uploading the clarification and supporting documents on the GST portal. If no reply is filed, the officer can reject the application in Form REG-05. Many Kovilambakkam applications are queried over rental agreements and electricity bills, so have the property papers vetted before replying. Call +91 - 9600 606 444 if you need the REG-04 response drafted properly.
My GST registration was rejected in REG-05 after a clarification notice. Can I apply again?
Yes. A rejection order in Form REG-05 does not bar you from applying afresh. You can file a new registration application after curing the defects the officer pointed out, such as an incomplete rental agreement, mismatched address proof or missing authorisation letter. Alternatively, if you believe the rejection was wrong, you can challenge the order by filing an appeal in Form APL-01 within three months. For most small businesses a corrected fresh application is faster than an appeal. ChennaiGST reviews the rejection reasons first and then recommends the quicker route for your case.
How can I verify whether a GST notice I received is genuine or fake?
Every communication from a central GST officer must carry a Document Identification Number (DIN), which you can verify on the CBIC website. Notices issued through the GST portal carry a Reference Number that can be checked after logging in, and a genuine notice will also appear in your View Notices and Orders or View Additional Notices and Orders tab. As per CBIC instructions, a communication without a DIN is treated as invalid. Be cautious of demands received only on WhatsApp or email asking for payment to personal accounts. If in doubt, call +91 - 9600 606 444 and we will verify the document before you respond.
What penalties does Section 122 of the CGST Act prescribe, and for which offences?
Section 122(1) lists twenty-one offences, including supplying without an invoice, issuing an invoice without supply, collecting tax but not depositing it beyond three months, failing to deduct or collect TDS or TCS, wrongly availing input tax credit and failing to register when liable. The penalty is Rs.10,000 or an amount equivalent to the tax evaded or credit wrongly taken, whichever is higher. For short payment of tax, Section 122(2) prescribes 10 percent of the tax or Rs.10,000, whichever is higher, in non-fraud cases, and a penalty equal to the tax or Rs.10,000, whichever is higher, where fraud is involved. An equal penalty applies under the SGST Act.
How do I check whether any GST notices have been issued to my business?
Log in to gst.gov.in and go to Services, then User Services, then View Notices and Orders for registration-related communications. Crucially, adjudication notices such as ASMT-10, DRC-01A and DRC-01 appear under a separate tab called View Additional Notices and Orders, which many taxpayers never open. Also verify that the email and mobile number on your registration are current, since the portal sends alerts there. We advise Kovilambakkam businesses to check both tabs at least once a month, because a reply deadline starts running from the date of issue on the portal, not from when you happen to see it.
I received an ASMT-10 scrutiny notice for my Kovilambakkam business. What exactly is it?
ASMT-10 is a notice issued under Section 61 after the officer scrutinises your filed returns and finds discrepancies, such as differences between GSTR-1 and GSTR-3B, excess ITC compared with GSTR-2B, or turnover gaps against e-way bill data. It is not yet a demand; it is an opportunity to explain. You must respond in Form ASMT-11 within thirty days, either justifying each discrepancy with reconciliations or accepting the liability and paying through DRC-03. A well-documented ASMT-11 usually closes the matter with an ASMT-12 acceptance order. Scrutiny notices are common among Kovilambakkam traders, so respond seriously but without panic.
How much time does the GST department have to issue a demand under Section 73?
For a Section 73 demand, the adjudication order must be passed within three years from the due date of the annual return for the financial year concerned, and the show cause notice must be issued at least three months before that deadline. For Section 74 fraud cases, the order deadline is five years with the notice issued at least six months earlier. For tax periods from FY 2024-25 onwards, a new common provision in Section 74A applies with its own timelines. Always check limitation first; notices issued beyond these dates can be challenged as time-barred, which ChennaiGST examines in every Kovilambakkam demand case.
How many days do I get to reply to an ASMT-10 notice?
The reply in Form ASMT-11 must be filed within thirty days of being informed of the discrepancies, or within such further time as the officer permits. If you need more time to gather reconciliations, write to the officer seeking an extension before the deadline instead of staying silent. The thirty days pass quickly because a proper reply needs invoice-level matching of GSTR-1, GSTR-3B, GSTR-2B and your books, so start compiling data the day the notice arrives. ChennaiGST typically completes the reconciliation and files the ASMT-11 well within the window for Kovilambakkam clients; call +91 - 9600 606 444 if your deadline is close.
What is the GST rate for restaurants and food delivery now?
Standalone restaurants, eateries and cloud kitchens charge 5 percent GST without input tax credit. Restaurants located in hotels where the room tariff exceeds Rs.7,500 per day fall in the specified premises category and charge 18 percent with input tax credit. Food ordered through e-commerce operators such as Swiggy and Zomato is taxed at 5 percent, with the platform liable to pay the tax on restaurant services supplied through it. A restaurant in Kovilambakkam paying 5 percent must remember that GST on its rent, gas and equipment purchases becomes a cost, since credit is barred.
Why are so many businesses suddenly receiving GST notices these days?
Enforcement has shifted from manual selection to data analytics. The portal now automatically compares GSTR-1 with GSTR-3B and flags tax shortfalls through DRC-01B intimations under Rule 88C, and compares GSTR-2B with GSTR-3B to flag excess ITC through DRC-01C under Rule 88D. E-way bill, e-invoice, TDS and income tax data are also cross-matched, and limitation deadlines for older financial years have pushed departments to clear pending demands in batches. The practical lesson for Kovilambakkam businesses is that mismatches no longer go unnoticed, so month-wise reconciliation before filing is now essential hygiene rather than a year-end exercise.
Which food items became completely tax-free under GST 2.0?
From 22 September 2025, UHT milk, pre-packaged and labelled paneer and chena, and all Indian breads including roti, chapati, paratha and khakhra attract nil GST. In the pharma space, thirty-three notified lifesaving drugs and medicines for cancer and rare diseases also moved to nil rate. Remember that selling nil-rated goods still has compliance effects: you issue a bill of supply instead of a tax invoice for such items, and input tax credit attributable to nil-rated supplies must be reversed proportionately under Rules 42 and 43. Grocery retailers in Kovilambakkam commonly need help splitting mixed billing correctly.
Why is my e-way bill generation blocked on the portal?
Under Rule 138E, the e-way bill facility is blocked when a taxpayer has not filed GSTR-3B (or CMP-08 for composition dealers) for two or more consecutive tax periods. Since an e-way bill is mandatory for moving goods worth more than Rs.50,000, blocking effectively halts dispatches. The remedy is straightforward: file the pending returns with late fee and interest, after which the facility unblocks automatically, usually the next day. Transporters and suppliers can also be affected when a counterparty GSTIN is blocked. We clear return backlogs for businesses in Kovilambakkam on priority; call +91 - 9600 606 444.
What happened to the old 12 percent and 28 percent GST slabs?
Both slabs were abolished with effect from 22 September 2025. Nearly all goods that were at 12 percent moved down to 5 percent, and the bulk of the 28 percent items moved to 18 percent, with only a small set of luxury and demerit goods shifted up to the special 40 percent rate. This means old rate charts, printed price lists and software masters created before September 2025 are unreliable. Before quoting or billing, confirm the current rate against the CBIC rate notifications for your exact HSN code, or call +91 - 9600 606 444 and we will verify it for your product list.
How much time do I get to raise an invoice for services?
A tax invoice for services must be issued within thirty days from the date of supply of the service. For banks, insurers, financial institutions and NBFCs, the limit is forty-five days. Where services are supplied continuously, the invoice follows the contract: if the due date of payment is ascertainable, invoice on or before that date; if not, invoice when payment is received; and if payment is linked to completion of an event or milestone, invoice on or before its completion. Consultants and agencies that bill quarterly should check their contracts against these rules, since late invoicing defers nothing legally.
Can one document cover both taxable and exempt items sold together?
Yes, in one specific situation. Rule 46A permits a registered person supplying both taxable and exempt goods or services to an unregistered recipient to issue a single invoice-cum-bill of supply covering the entire transaction. This saves retail counters from splitting every mixed basket into two documents. The concession applies only when the buyer is unregistered; for a registered buyer, you must still issue a tax invoice for the taxable items and a separate bill of supply for the exempt items. Supermarkets and pharmacies with mixed inventories use this format daily, and billing software handles the split automatically once configured.
What is the process for GST notice reply?
The process runs in clear stages: Notice study; Data reconciliation; Reply drafting; Filing and payment. A senior consultant reviews your file at each stage rather than passing it to a data-entry desk, and you receive a confirmation with the filed documents once it is complete. You always know which stage your work is at — we update you on WhatsApp instead of leaving you to follow up.
