Trade Profile and GST Jurisdiction for Bajanai Koil Street, Mudichur

Choosing GSTR-1 & GSTR-3B Monthly Filing in Mudichur is ultimately an act of trust: you are handing over sales figures, purchase records and portal access. Mudichur's construction boom along the Tambaram - Mudichur - Sriperumbudur Road and the Outer Ring Road has filled former paddy fields with apartment projects, plot promotions, building material yards, hardware and paint shops, water-can suppliers and packers-and-movers out to Varadharajapuram and Mannivakkam. Construction is the GST epicentre here: rate confusion on works contracts, the eighty per cent registered-purchase rule for promoters, and flood-season filing relief. We earn that trust the unglamorous way — fixed fees honoured, drafts approved by you before filing, acknowledgements shared the same day, and strict confidentiality throughout. Clients across Mudichur, Perungalathur and Varadharajapuram have stayed with us for years on precisely this basis.

GST jurisdiction for Mudichur (PIN 600048): businesses here generally fall under the CGST Chennai Outer Commissionerate. We regularly represent clients from Mudichur before this jurisdiction for registrations, clarifications and notice hearings, and can confirm your exact division and range from your GSTIN. State-jurisdiction cases are handled with the Tamil Nadu Commercial Taxes Department.
GST for Professional Services Firms in Mudichur
Professional firms bill at 18 percent, but the mechanics differ by profession: services of advocates to business entities are taxed in the client's hands under reverse charge, while chartered accountants, company secretaries and architects charge tax on their own invoices. Fees received in advance are taxable on receipt, and retainers must be invoiced within the time limits of Section 31(2). Amounts recovered from clients as a pure agent, such as government fees paid on their behalf, stay outside taxable value only if every condition of Rule 33 is met and documented. A specialist sets up retainer invoicing, pure agent documentation and branch cross-charges correctly; call +91 - 9600 606 444 to discuss your firm.
Yes, GSTR-1 & GSTR-3B Monthly Filing in Mudichur can be completed fully online — no office visit is required at any stage, since e-signatures, OTP verification and digital document exchange cover the entire formality, with fees from Rs.749.
Why Us

Why Bajanai Koil Street, Mudichur Businesses Choose ChennaiGST

Not a bulk-filing portal. A senior consultant knows your file, your jurisdiction and your deadlines.

✓

Composition Scheme Compliance Without Slips

Composition dealers have their own rulebook — CMP-08 every quarter, GSTR-4 annually by 30 June, bills of supply instead of tax invoices, and a turnover ceiling that must be watched. We handle each of these correctly so the scheme's simplicity never turns into a violation.

✓

Extra Hands During Filing Windows

In the days before the 11th and the 20th, our team runs extended hours and a strict internal queue, so a client who sends data late in the window is still filed on time. Peak-season crush at our end never becomes a late fee at yours.

✓

Clean Exits When a Business Closes

Winding up attracts its own GST obligations — the cancellation application, reversal of credit on closing stock, and the final return in GSTR-10 within three months. We close registrations properly so a business you shut in Mudichur never writes back to you as a demand years later.

✓

Waiver and Amnesty Windows Applied for You

Whenever the GST Council notifies a late-fee waiver or an amnesty window for pending returns or old demands, we check every client's history against it and act within the deadline. Relief that businesses in Mudichur would otherwise read about after it lapsed reaches our clients in time.

✓

QRMP Managed Properly, Not Just Opted Into

Quarterly filing still demands monthly attention — IFF uploads so your buyers see their credit on time, and tax payment through PMT-06 by the 25th for the first two months of each quarter. We run that monthly rhythm so QRMP saves you effort without creating gaps.

✓

Strict Data Confidentiality

Your sales figures, supplier lists and login credentials are handled only by our engaged team, stored securely and never shared with any third party. Many of our clients in Mudichur compete with each other; complete confidentiality is a condition of our work.

How It Works

Our Monthly Returns Process

Monthly data collection

At month end we remind you and collect sales invoices, purchase bills and credit notes in whatever format you maintain, including Excel, Tally exports or scanned copies.

GSTR-1 preparation and filing

We prepare invoice-wise outward supply details, validate GSTINs of your B2B customers, summarise B2C supplies and file GSTR-1 on the portal before the 11th.

ITC reconciliation with GSTR-2B

We download your auto-drafted GSTR-2B, match it against purchase records, and claim only eligible input tax credit so that mismatches do not trigger scrutiny notices later.

Tax computation and confirmation

We compute net tax payable after ITC set-off, share the working with you for approval, and generate the payment challan for any cash liability.

GSTR-3B filing and reporting

After your confirmation and tax payment, we file GSTR-3B before the 20th and send you both filed acknowledgements along with a one-page summary of the month.

Outcomes

What You Get

Practical outcomes our clients measure us by.

★

Lower Total Cost of Compliance

A fixed professional fee is almost always cheaper than the combination of late fees, interest, lost credit and staff hours that informal, last-minute compliance quietly accumulates over a year.

★

Compliance That Continues When You Travel

Illness, travel or a family function no longer threatens a deadline. With a standing external process holding your calendar and data trail, filings proceed on schedule whether or not you are at your desk.

★

Time Back for Your Actual Business

The hours you or your accountant spent wrestling with the portal, JSON errors and reconciliations every month return to sales, operations and customers, while trained hands manage the compliance in the background.

★

Notices Answered Within the Time Limit

Statutory windows such as thirty days for an ASMT-11 reply are tracked from the day a notice arrives, so responses go in on time, complete, and with your best case properly presented.

★

Clarity on What You Actually Owe

Each period you receive a simple computation showing output tax, credit utilised and net cash payable, so GST becomes a number you understand and question rather than a figure you accept blindly.

★

Goods That Move Without Detention

Correct e-way bills matched to correct invoices mean your consignments clear roadside inspections cleanly, avoiding detention proceedings whose penalties can far exceed the tax on the goods being carried.

Why a Specialist Matters

With ChennaiGST vs Doing It Yourself

AspectWith ChennaiGSTDIY / Unattended
Keeping up with changesRate changes, portal updates and new thresholds such as the Rs.5 crore e-invoice limit are tracked by us and applied to your case proactively.Changes are discovered after the fact — often through a rejected filing, a blocked e-way bill or a departmental letter.
Due-date trackingA maintained compliance calendar with internal cut-offs days before the 11th and the 20th; we chase you for data, not the other way around.Deadlines remembered from memory or phone alarms; one busy week and the return slips past the due date.
Annual return preparationMonthly reconciliations roll naturally into GSTR-9, filed comfortably before 31 December with figures already agreed through the year.Twelve months of unmatched data reconstructed in December, with differences discovered too late to be corrected cleanly.
Time costRoughly an hour a month to send data and approve drafts; the portal work, reconciliation and follow-up are ours.Hours every month lost to portal errors, JSON files, OTP failures and reworking figures — usually on the due date itself.
Registration and amendmentsQuery-resistant applications prepared correctly the first time, with supporting documents matched to what proper officers actually verify.Repeated clarification memos and resubmissions, with weeks lost because a rent agreement or premises photograph did not meet expectations.
When a notice arrivesA professional drafts the reply in the department's format and files it within the statutory window, such as thirty days for ASMT-11.You face departmental language alone, and a missed reply deadline can convert a simple query into a demand with penalty.

Bajanai Koil Street is a residential street in Mudichur, about 1.6 km north-east of the centre of Mudichur. For GST purposes an address on Bajanai Koil Street falls under the Chennai Outer CGST Commissionerate, and the Mudichur pincode is 600048.

GST Council

First major extension of the July 2017 return due dates

21st GST Council Meeting, Hyderabad — 9 September 2017 (PIB Release ID 1502268) · 2017-09-09

Faced with widespread filing difficulties, the Council approved a revised schedule for the first tax period: GSTR-1 for July 2017 to 10 October (3 October for taxpayers above Rs 100 crore turnover), GSTR-2 to 31 October, GSTR-3 to 10 November and GSTR-6 to 13 October. Table 4 of GSTR-4 was not to be filled for the July-September quarter and GSTR-4A was dispensed with. GSTR-3B was to continue for August to December 2017.

Why this matters: The invoice-matching return cycle of GSTR-1, 2 and 3 collapsed almost immediately, and GSTR-3B became the permanent monthly filing every Chennai business now does.

Case Law

Supreme Court upholds a time limit on taking input credit as a valid restriction

Osram Surya (P) Ltd v. Commissioner of Central Excise, Indore — Supreme Court, (2002) 9 SCC 20, judgment dated 02-05-2002 · 2002-05-02

The Supreme Court held that a rule prescribing a period within which credit must be taken from the date of the invoice does not take away any vested right. It merely regulates the manner and time of availing the credit, which the legislature is entitled to do. A taxpayer who fails to take the credit within the prescribed window loses the benefit. This reasoning supports the time limit in Section 16(4) of the CGST Act.

Practical effect: Chennai businesses should reconcile purchase registers with GSTR-2B every month and claim credit within the deadline, as belated claims are generally lost.

Circular

No section 73(11) penalty for merely paying self-assessed tax late

Circular No. 76/50/2018-GST dated 31 December 2018 · 2018-12-31

This circular answered a set of unrelated questions. The most important is that the penalty under section 73(11) does not apply where self-assessed tax shown in the return is paid late; only interest under section 50 and, where warranted, general penalty under section 125 arise. It also dealt with the rate applicable to notes issued under section 142(2) and who is the owner of goods in transit. A corrigendum of 7 March 2019 clarified that tax collected at source under the Income-tax Act is not included in the taxable value.

How we apply it: If a demand adds a heavy penalty simply because GSTR-3B tax was paid late, this circular is the answer.

FAQs

Frequently Asked Questions

Straight answers from practising GST consultants — based on the CGST Act, current CBIC notifications and day-to-day portal experience.

What is the process for GSTR-1 & GSTR-3B monthly filing?
The process runs in clear stages: Monthly data collection; GSTR-1 preparation and filing; ITC reconciliation with GSTR-2B; Tax computation and confirmation. A senior consultant reviews your file at each stage rather than passing it to a data-entry desk, and you receive a confirmation with the filed documents once it is complete. You always know which stage your work is at — we update you on WhatsApp instead of leaving you to follow up.
Do you provide gst return filing for small businesses and proprietorships in Mudichur?
Yes. A large share of our clients in Mudichur are proprietors, small traders, shop owners, freelancers and family businesses rather than large companies. The fee of Rs.749/month and the process are the same regardless of size, and we explain the compliance position in plain language — in Tamil or English — so you understand what is being filed on your behalf and why.
A client paid me an advance. Do I raise an invoice or something else?
On receiving an advance, you issue a receipt voucher under Rule 50, not an invoice; the tax invoice follows when the service is actually supplied. GST is payable on advances received for services in the period of receipt, and the receipt voucher documents that liability. Advances for the supply of goods are not taxed at receipt for normal taxpayers under Notification 66/2017. If the rate is not determinable when the advance arrives, tax is paid at 18 percent, and if the nature of supply is not determinable, it is treated as inter-state. Service firms in Mudichur with retainer billing should map this into their monthly cycle.
The portal auto-filled an interest amount in my GSTR-3B. Can I edit or dispute it?
The portal computes interest on delayed filings under Rule 88B and auto-populates it in Table 5.1 of the next period's GSTR-3B, with a break-up shown period-wise. The system value is based on your cash ledger debits and the days of delay, and while the field permits upward revision, reducing the system-computed figure will flag the return. If you believe the computation is wrong, for instance because a liability related to an earlier period was declared with correct interest already paid through DRC-03, pay what is correct and keep the working; the department can be satisfied later with the reconciliation. We verify these auto-computations for clients before every filing.
What is a B2C large invoice and what is the current threshold?
A B2C large invoice is an inter-state supply to an unregistered person exceeding the notified value threshold, which was reduced from Rs.2.5 lakh to Rs.1 lakh. Such invoices must be reported individually in Table 5 of GSTR-1 with the place of supply, instead of being merged into the consolidated B2C summary. The rule helps states track high-value consumer sales flowing across borders. If your Mudichur showroom occasionally bills an unregistered customer from another state above Rs.1 lakh, your billing and returns process must flag it for invoice-wise reporting, or GSTR-1 validations and later scrutiny will surface the gap.
What is the difference between CPIN and CIN, and how long is a GST challan valid?
When you generate a challan in Form PMT-06 on the portal, the system issues a fourteen-digit Common Portal Identification Number, the CPIN, which identifies the unpaid challan and remains valid for fifteen days. Once the bank receives your payment, a seventeen-digit Challan Identification Number, the CIN, is generated, comprising the CPIN plus the bank code, and the amount credits your electronic cash ledger. If a challan expires unpaid, simply generate a fresh one; no consequence follows. Payment modes include net banking, UPI, cards, NEFT or RTGS, and over-the-counter deposit up to Rs.10,000 per challan per tax period.
How does a GTA opt for forward charge, and by when must it be done?
The option is exercised by filing the Annexure V declaration on the GST portal. For an existing GTA, the window for a financial year runs from 1 January to 31 March of the preceding financial year, so the choice for the coming year must be locked in by 31 March. A newly registered GTA must file the declaration within forty-five days of applying for registration or one month from the date of obtaining registration, whichever is later. Once exercised, the option continues for future years automatically unless the GTA files Annexure VI to revert to reverse charge. Missing the window means remaining under the default reverse charge mechanism for the whole year.
We hire security guards from an agency. Should they charge GST or should we pay it ourselves?
Check the agency's constitution. Since 1 January 2019, security services by way of supply of security personnel provided by any person other than a body corporate to a registered person fall under reverse charge, so your business pays the 18 percent directly and claims credit. If the agency is a body corporate, such as a private limited company, it charges GST under forward charge on its invoice. Recipients registered under the composition scheme are excluded from this reverse charge entry. Businesses in Mudichur commonly pay agencies' forward-charge invoices while also missing their own RCM cases, so an annual review of security and manpower bills is worthwhile.
I claimed some ITC wrongly last year. What interest and penalty apply if I reverse it now?
Under Section 50(3) as amended, interest at 18 percent per annum applies where wrongly availed credit has also been utilised, calculated from the date of utilisation until reversal; credit that was availed but never utilised, because your ledger balance never fell below the wrong amount, attracts no interest. Voluntary reversal is done through GSTR-3B or by payment in DRC-03, and paying before any show cause notice generally avoids or minimises penalty. If the department has already issued ASMT-10 or DRC-01, reply timelines apply, so act quickly. Call +91 - 9600 606 444 and ChennaiGST can compute the exact interest and file the DRC-03.
I received a debit note from a supplier for an old invoice. Which year's ITC deadline applies?
The deadline is counted from the date of the debit note, not the original invoice. After the Finance Act 2020 delinked debit notes from their underlying invoices, ITC on a debit note can be claimed up to 30 November following the end of the financial year in which the debit note itself was issued. So a debit note dated June 2025 against an invoice of January 2024 remains claimable until 30 November 2026. This delinking rescues many price-escalation and rate-difference credits that would otherwise appear time-barred, and it is worth checking before writing off any debit note credit as lost.
We are constructing our own office building in Mudichur. Can we claim ITC on the materials and contractor bills?
No. Section 17(5)(c) and (d) block credit on works contract services and on goods or services used for construction of immovable property on your own account, even when the building is used for business. The exception is plant and machinery, which covers apparatus and equipment fixed to earth by foundation or structural support, but expressly excludes land, buildings, telecom towers and pipelines laid outside the factory. Note that the Finance Act 2025 retrospectively substituted the phrase plant or machinery with plant and machinery from 1 July 2017, neutralising the wider reading taken in the Safari Retreats ruling. Structure your capitalisation records to separate plant from civil work.
Where is the place of supply for services connected to a building or land?
Services directly relating to immovable property, including those of architects, interior decorators, engineers, surveyors, construction and works contract services, renting, and accommodation in hotels, are supplied where the property is located, under Section 12(3). The recipient's location and registration are irrelevant. So a Mudichur architect designing a factory in Coimbatore charges CGST plus SGST of Tamil Nadu, but for a project in Kochi the place of supply is Kerala and IGST applies. For hotels, the state where the hotel stands is always the place of supply, which is why accommodation is invariably billed with that state's local taxes regardless of where the guest's business is registered.
We sponsored a trade event. Does reverse charge apply to the sponsorship amount?
If your business is a body corporate or partnership firm, sponsorship services received are notified under Section 9(3) and you must pay 18 percent GST under reverse charge, with ITC available since sponsorship is a marketing expense. One recent change matters: with effect from 16 January 2025, sponsorship services provided by a body corporate were moved to forward charge, so if the event organiser billing you is a company, it now charges GST on its invoice and RCM does not apply. Where the provider is a proprietor, trust or society, RCM continues. Verify the organiser's constitution before booking the entry, and raise a self-invoice where the provider is unregistered.
Can one document cover both taxable and exempt items sold together?
Yes, in one specific situation. Rule 46A permits a registered person supplying both taxable and exempt goods or services to an unregistered recipient to issue a single invoice-cum-bill of supply covering the entire transaction. This saves retail counters from splitting every mixed basket into two documents. The concession applies only when the buyer is unregistered; for a registered buyer, you must still issue a tax invoice for the taxable items and a separate bill of supply for the exempt items. Supermarkets and pharmacies with mixed inventories use this format daily, and billing software handles the split automatically once configured.
If I open a bulk bag and sell rice loose by weight, is that sale taxable?
No. The 5% levy on specified food items applies only when they are supplied in pre-packaged and labelled form in packs up to 25 kilograms. When a retailer opens bulk stock and weighs out loose quantities against each customer's order, the supply is not of a pre-packaged commodity, so it remains exempt. What you cannot do is sell an intact labelled retail pack and bill it as loose. Keep purchase records showing bulk procurement and maintain the loose counter separately from the packed shelf, because officers test this distinction during inspections of grocery businesses. When in doubt on a product, call +91 - 9600 606 444.
What are the most common mistakes Chennai businesses make with GST refunds and ITC?
The recurring ones we see across Mudichur are: missing the two-year limitation for RFD-01, mismatches between GSTR-1, GSTR-3B and shipping bill data that stall export refunds, forgetting the April LUT renewal, claiming ITC on invoices absent from GSTR-2B, ignoring blocked credits under Section 17(5), breaching the 180-day supplier payment rule, and treating deficiency memos as rejections instead of refiling within limitation. Each of these is preventable with a simple monthly checklist and a year-end reconciliation. ChennaiGST builds exactly this discipline into its retainer engagements; call +91 - 9600 606 444 if any of these sounds familiar.
Is there really a penalty for not displaying my GST number at my shop?
Yes. Rule 18 of the CGST Rules requires every registered person to display the registration certificate in a prominent location at the principal place of business and every additional place, and to display the GSTIN on the name board at the entry of each such premises. There is no separate penalty provision for this lapse, so officers invoke the general penalty under Section 125, which can extend to Rs.25,000 under CGST with a matching state penalty. Inspection teams visiting Mudichur markets routinely check name boards first, so a few hundred rupees of signage is the cheapest compliance in the entire GST law.
Is the late fee charged on delayed returns the same thing as a penalty?
No, they are legally distinct. Late fee under Section 47 is an automatic, fixed daily charge for filing a return after its due date, computed by the portal and payable in cash before the return is accepted; no officer discretion or notice is involved. Penalty, under provisions such as Sections 122 to 125, is imposed through adjudication for specified offences, requires a show cause notice and hearing, and can be contested or reduced. Interest under Section 50 is a third, separate levy compensating for delayed payment. A delayed return with tax due can therefore attract all three simultaneously, each on its own footing.
Which GST office handles Mudichur businesses?

Your exact division and range can be confirmed from your GSTIN on the GST portal. We regularly appear before this jurisdiction for registrations, clarifications and hearings, so we know the local practice and documentation preferences.
