Trade Profile and GST Jurisdiction for Tiruneermalai Main Road, Old Pallavaram

Businesses in Old Pallavaram looking for GSTR-1 & GSTR-3B Monthly Filing want two things: work done correctly and someone answerable when questions come. Old Pallavaram holds the older trading core west of the railway line, between GST Road, Darga Road and Old Trunk Road, with timber depots, hardware and paint merchants, travel and airport cab operators, and blue-metal suppliers off Pallavaram hill. The weekly Pallavaram Sandhai and the Cowl Bazaar shops draw the retail crowd. Transport and works-contract billing raise constant reverse charge, e-way bill and rental RCM questions. We serve this belt — including Pallavaram and Pammal — with fixed fees quoted upfront, a written document checklist, and filings completed ahead of statutory due dates. Every acknowledgement is shared the day it is generated, and our support continues if the department raises any query on work we have filed.

GST jurisdiction for Old Pallavaram (PIN 600117): businesses here generally fall under the CGST Chennai Outer Commissionerate. We regularly represent clients from Old Pallavaram before this jurisdiction for registrations, clarifications and notice hearings, and can confirm your exact division and range from your GSTIN. State-jurisdiction cases are handled with the Tamil Nadu Commercial Taxes Department.
GST for Builders and Contractors in Old Pallavaram
Under-construction residential sales are taxed at 1 percent for affordable housing and 5 percent for other units, both without input credit, while commercial works contracts run at 18 percent with credit. Builders must procure at least 80 percent of inputs and input services from registered suppliers each year; any shortfall attracts tax under reverse charge, and cement bought from unregistered dealers is taxed under reverse charge at its full rate regardless of the shortfall test. Development rights and joint development agreements carry their own liability trigger points. A specialist runs the 80-20 computation annually and tracks reverse charge on cement and landowner area sharing so project costing stays accurate.

Why Us

Why Tiruneermalai Main Road, Old Pallavaram Businesses Choose ChennaiGST

Not a bulk-filing portal. A senior consultant knows your file, your jurisdiction and your deadlines.

A Real Local Office You Can Walk Into

We are a Chennai firm with a physical office, not a faceless portal. If you prefer to sit across a table with your papers, you are welcome. Clients from Old Pallavaram regularly visit us for registrations, notice discussions and annual return reviews.

Strict Data Confidentiality

Your sales figures, supplier lists and login credentials are handled only by our engaged team, stored securely and never shared with any third party. Many of our clients in Old Pallavaram compete with each other; complete confidentiality is a condition of our work.

One Dedicated Point of Contact

You deal with one accountable person who knows your business, your turnover pattern and your filing history. No repeating your story to a new voice every month, and no file falling between two desks when a deadline is approaching.

Clean Exits When a Business Closes

Winding up attracts its own GST obligations — the cancellation application, reversal of credit on closing stock, and the final return in GSTR-10 within three months. We close registrations properly so a business you shut in Old Pallavaram never writes back to you as a demand years later.

Proactive Alerts Before Problems Become Notices

If your GSTR-1 and GSTR-3B start drifting apart, if a large supplier stops filing, or if your turnover approaches the e-invoice threshold, we flag it to you immediately. Early warnings from our side are cheaper than departmental letters later.

Support Through Audits and Hearings

When an ADT-01 audit intimation or a personal hearing date arrives, we compile the records, prepare the reconciliations and draft the submissions, and coordinate closely with your authorised representative. You walk into the proceeding prepared, not improvising in front of an officer.

How It Works

Our Monthly Returns Process

Monthly data collection

At month end we remind you and collect sales invoices, purchase bills and credit notes in whatever format you maintain, including Excel, Tally exports or scanned copies.

GSTR-1 preparation and filing

We prepare invoice-wise outward supply details, validate GSTINs of your B2B customers, summarise B2C supplies and file GSTR-1 on the portal before the 11th.

ITC reconciliation with GSTR-2B

We download your auto-drafted GSTR-2B, match it against purchase records, and claim only eligible input tax credit so that mismatches do not trigger scrutiny notices later.

Tax computation and confirmation

We compute net tax payable after ITC set-off, share the working with you for approval, and generate the payment challan for any cash liability.

GSTR-3B filing and reporting

After your confirmation and tax payment, we file GSTR-3B before the 20th and send you both filed acknowledgements along with a one-page summary of the month.

Outcomes

What You Get

Practical outcomes our clients measure us by.

Confidence During Officer Interactions

When a query or verification comes, you respond through a professional who deals with the department regularly, in the department's own language and format, instead of facing an officer's letter alone.

Closure Without Loose Ends

When a business winds up, proper cancellation and a timely final return ensure the file is genuinely closed, so no demand or late-fee computation resurfaces against you long after the shutters came down.

Marketplace Accounts That Stay Live

E-commerce platforms continuously validate seller GSTINs and filing status. A consistently compliant registration keeps your listings active and settlements flowing, with no sudden suspension of your online sales channel.

Reduced Dependence on One Employee

When GST knowledge lives inside a single staff member, their resignation becomes a compliance crisis. With our firm as the standing process, your filings continue uninterrupted regardless of internal staff changes.

Notices Answered Within the Time Limit

Statutory windows such as thirty days for an ASMT-11 reply are tracked from the day a notice arrives, so responses go in on time, complete, and with your best case properly presented.

Due-Diligence Ready for Investors and Buyers

Funding rounds, partnerships and business sales all begin with a compliance check. A clean, documented GST history lets you clear that scrutiny quickly instead of watching a deal stall over old filing gaps.

Why a Specialist Matters

With ChennaiGST vs Doing It Yourself

AspectWith ChennaiGSTDIY / Unattended
Supplier defaultsSuppliers who stop uploading invoices are identified within the period and pursued before their default becomes your blocked credit.Missing supplier invoices surface only when credit is denied, by which time recovering the amount from the vendor is difficult.
Registration and amendmentsQuery-resistant applications prepared correctly the first time, with supporting documents matched to what proper officers actually verify.Repeated clarification memos and resubmissions, with weeks lost because a rent agreement or premises photograph did not meet expectations.
Due-date trackingA maintained compliance calendar with internal cut-offs days before the 11th and the 20th; we chase you for data, not the other way around.Deadlines remembered from memory or phone alarms; one busy week and the return slips past the due date.
Refund claimsRFD-01 filed with complete statements and annexures, tracked from ARN to bank credit, with any deficiency memo answered promptly.Incomplete claims bounce back as deficiency memos while the refund sits unclaimed for months and working capital stays blocked.
Time costRoughly an hour a month to send data and approve drafts; the portal work, reconciliation and follow-up are ours.Hours every month lost to portal errors, JSON files, OTP failures and reworking figures — usually on the due date itself.
Input tax creditPurchase register matched against GSTR-2B each period, with defaulting suppliers chased so eligible credit is actually captured.Credit claimed from books alone; mismatches with GSTR-2B mean lost credit or excess claims that invite departmental queries.

Portal Advisory

Table 3.2 of GSTR-3B: locking announced, then temporarily relaxed

GSTN Advisories dated 11 April 2025 and 16 May 2025 — Table 3.2 of GSTR-3B · 2025-04-11

GSTN first advised that from the April 2025 period, auto-populated values in Table 3.2 of GSTR-3B, covering inter-state supplies to unregistered persons, composition taxpayers and UIN holders, would become non-editable, with corrections routed through GSTR-1A. After taxpayer representations, a 16 May 2025 advisory kept Table 3.2 editable for the time being. The locking was later subsumed in the broader hard-locking of GSTR-3B liability during 2025.

How we apply it: Report place-of-supply details correctly in GSTR-1 itself, since state-wise B2C figures in GSTR-3B are moving beyond manual correction.

AAR Ruling

Ready to cook idli, dosa and porridge mixes taxable at 18 percent

Krishna Bhavan Foods and Sweets - AAR Tamil Nadu, Order No. TN/24/AAR/2021, dated 18 June 2021, upheld by AAAR Tamil Nadu, Order No. TN/AAAR/02/2022, dated 13 January 2022 · 2021-06-18

The applicant sold packaged ready to cook instant mixes for dosai, idli, tiffin items, sweets, health mix and porridge. It argued that these were only flours of cereals and pulses taxable at 5 percent. The Authority classified the products under heading 2106 90 as food preparations not elsewhere specified, attracting 18 percent GST, because the mixing and added ingredients took them out of the concessional flour entries. The Appellate Authority upheld that classification.

Why this matters: Chennai food manufacturers selling instant mixes should confirm whether the product is a plain flour or a preparation before applying 5 percent.

Notification

Tobacco and pan masala moved to 40 per cent from 1 February 2026

Notification No. 19/2025-Central Tax (Rate), dated 31 December 2025 · 2025-12-31

Tobacco products had been left at twenty-eight per cent in Schedule VII when GST 2.0 took effect, pending discharge of the compensation cess loan obligations. This notification omits Schedule VII entirely with effect from 1 February 2026 and moves pan masala, unmanufactured tobacco and refuse, cigars and cigarettes, other manufactured tobacco and nicotine inhalation products into Schedule III at forty per cent. Biris of tariff items 2403 19 21 and 2403 19 29 were placed in Schedule II at eighteen per cent.

Practical effect: Tobacco and pan masala wholesalers in Chennai charge forty per cent on supplies made on or after 1 February 2026, with biris at the lower eighteen per cent rate.

FAQs

Frequently Asked Questions

Straight answers from practising GST consultants — based on the CGST Act, current CBIC notifications and day-to-day portal experience.

Is there a GST consultant near Old Pallavaram for gst return filing?
Yes. We serve Old Pallavaram and the surrounding areas from our office at Porur, Chennai - 600 116, Tamil Nadu, and most monthly returns work is completed online — you send documents on WhatsApp and we handle the portal work. If you prefer in-person help, we offer doorstep document pickup across Old Pallavaram and you are welcome to visit our office. Reach us on +91 - 9600 606 444 between 9 AM and 8 PM, Monday to Saturday.
Do you provide gst return filing for small businesses and proprietorships in Old Pallavaram?
Yes. A large share of our clients in Old Pallavaram are proprietors, small traders, shop owners, freelancers and family businesses rather than large companies. The fee of Rs.749/month and the process are the same regardless of size, and we explain the compliance position in plain language — in Tamil or English — so you understand what is being filed on your behalf and why.
How does an ISD actually distribute credit among branches?
Distribution follows Section 20 read with Rule 39. Credit attributable to a single branch goes only to that branch; credit for common services is distributed among operational branches in the ratio of their turnover in the preceding financial year. The ISD issues an ISD invoice to each recipient GSTIN and reports the distribution in GSTR-6 by the 13th of the following month, after which the credit appears in each branch's GSTR-2B. IGST credit is distributed as IGST, while CGST and SGST credit is distributed as IGST to branches in other states. Excess distribution is recoverable from the recipient with interest, so the turnover ratios must be computed carefully each year.
When can I issue a GST credit note against my sales invoice?
Section 34 permits a credit note where the taxable value or tax charged in the invoice exceeds what is actually payable, where the goods are returned by the recipient, or where the goods or services are found deficient. The credit note references the original invoice, and reporting it in your GSTR-1 reduces your output tax liability for that period. It is the correct tool for sales returns, rate errors and quality claims. What a credit note cannot do is cancel an e-invoice after the twenty-four hour IRP window or rewrite history for a different customer; it must trace to a genuine adjustment on an identified invoice.
I generate e-invoices. Do I still have to prepare GSTR-1 separately?
If your aggregate turnover exceeds Rs.5 crore, e-invoicing is mandatory and the invoice details reported to the Invoice Registration Portal auto-populate into your GSTR-1. However, auto-population is not a substitute for review. B2C sales, exports without IRN issues, credit notes, amendments and advances still need to be verified or added manually before submission. We review the auto-drafted GSTR-1 against your books each month so that what is filed matches your accounts exactly. If you have just crossed the Rs.5 crore threshold, call +91 - 9600 606 444 and we will set up e-invoicing correctly.
My landlord in Old Pallavaram has no GSTIN but my business is registered. Who pays GST on the shop rent?
You do. With effect from 10 October 2024, renting of immovable property other than a residential dwelling by an unregistered person to a registered person was brought under reverse charge through Notification 09/2024-Central Tax (Rate). So a registered trader renting a shop from an unregistered landlord must pay 18 percent under RCM through GSTR-3B and can claim it back as input tax credit if eligible. Composition taxpayers have since been kept outside this entry, given they cannot claim credit. Many small businesses in Old Pallavaram are still unaware of this 2024 change, and scrutiny notices on rent entries have already begun appearing. Call +91 - 9600 606 444 to regularise past months.
What is a debit note under GST and when do I issue one?
You issue a debit note when the taxable value or tax charged in the original invoice was less than what is actually payable, for example a price escalation clause kicking in or a rate charged short. Declaring the debit note in GSTR-1 increases your output liability, payable with interest where the shortfall relates to an earlier period. There is no outer time limit on issuing a debit note itself. For your buyer, the debit note is a credit document: following the amendment to Section 16(4), the buyer's time limit to claim ITC runs from the date of the debit note, not the original invoice.
When is GSTR-1 due for my business in Old Pallavaram?
GSTR-1, the statement of outward supplies, is due on the 11th of the following month for taxpayers filing monthly. If you have opted for the QRMP scheme, the quarterly GSTR-1 is due on the 13th of the month after the quarter ends. Filing on time matters because your invoices flow into your buyers' GSTR-2B, which decides their input tax credit. Our team in Old Pallavaram tracks these dates for every client so nothing slips. Call +91 - 9600 606 444 if you need a filing reminder set up.
Our company spends on CSR activities. Is the GST paid on those purchases creditable?
Not any more. Section 17(5)(fa), inserted with effect from 1 October 2023, specifically blocks input tax credit on goods or services used for corporate social responsibility activities under Section 135 of the Companies Act. Before this date the position was contested, with advance rulings going both ways, so credits availed for earlier periods may still be defensible on merits if questioned. For current periods, GST on CSR purchases, whether school furniture donated or medical supplies distributed, is a cost. Companies in Old Pallavaram should route CSR procurement through a separate expense code so their monthly reconciliation automatically excludes these invoices from the ITC claim.
I paid my supplier only part of the invoice within 180 days. How much ITC do I reverse?
The reversal is proportionate. If you paid sixty percent of the invoice value including tax within 180 days, you reverse only the ITC attributable to the unpaid forty percent, reporting it in Table 4(B)(2) of the GSTR-3B for the tax period immediately following the expiry of the 180 days. Amounts settled through book adjustments, such as netting off mutual dues or debit notes for quality deductions reducing the payable, have been accepted as payment in advance rulings, so a properly documented ledger adjustment protects the credit. Retention money held under contract terms is the most common trigger we see in Old Pallavaram construction and job-work businesses.
What is the late fee if I file a nil return late?
For a nil GSTR-3B or nil GSTR-1 filed after the due date, the late fee is Rs.20 per day of delay (Rs.10 CGST plus Rs.10 SGST), capped at Rs.500 per return (Rs.250 plus Rs.250). No interest applies since there is no tax payable. While Rs.500 sounds small, defaults across several months add up, and the bigger cost is the compliance chain breaking and your GSTIN being flagged. If you have a backlog of nil returns pending in Old Pallavaram, call +91 - 9600 606 444; clearing them usually takes us a single working day.
How do I track the status of a grievance ticket or any ARN I have on the GST portal?
For grievance tickets, open selfservice.gstsystem.in and use Check Status by entering the ticket reference number; the screen shows whether it is open, under processing or resolved, with the resolution comments. For applications filed on the main portal, log in and use Services, then Track Application Status, choosing the module and entering the ARN, or open My Applications to see every application with its case detail folder, notices and replies in one place. Diarise every ARN the day it is generated, because reply windows run from portal timestamps. ChennaiGST maintains an ARN tracker for every client engagement.
What documents must I prepare for reverse charge purchases from unregistered suppliers?
Two documents are required. First, a self-invoice: Section 31(3)(f) obliges you to issue an invoice on yourself for goods or services received from an unregistered supplier on which you pay tax under reverse charge, and under Rule 47A this self-invoice must be issued within thirty days of receiving the supply. Second, a payment voucher under Rule 52 at the time of making payment to the supplier. The self-invoice is the document on which you claim the input tax credit of the reverse charge tax paid. Freight from unregistered transporters and advocate fees are typical cases where businesses miss this paperwork.
Is GST payable on hostel or paying guest accommodation in Old Pallavaram?
A specific exemption effective 15 July 2024 covers accommodation services supplied at a value up to Rs.20,000 per person per month, provided the accommodation is supplied for a minimum continuous period of ninety days. Student hostels and working men's or women's PGs in Old Pallavaram charging within this limit for long stays are therefore exempt. Where the monthly charge exceeds Rs.20,000, or the stay is shorter than ninety days, the supply is taxable like ordinary accommodation. Operators should maintain stay records and agreements evidencing the duration, because the ninety-day condition is what officers test first during verification.
What is the difference between the electronic cash ledger and the electronic credit ledger?
The electronic cash ledger reflects actual money you have deposited through challans, plus TDS and TCS credits you have accepted; it can pay tax, interest, penalty, late fee and any other amount. The electronic credit ledger reflects input tax credit claimed through your returns, and it can be used only for paying output tax, never for interest, penalty or late fee. Both are visible under Services, then Ledgers, after login. Refund of an excess cash balance is possible, while credit is refundable only in specified cases such as exports and inverted duty structure.
We sponsored a trade event. Does reverse charge apply to the sponsorship amount?
If your business is a body corporate or partnership firm, sponsorship services received are notified under Section 9(3) and you must pay 18 percent GST under reverse charge, with ITC available since sponsorship is a marketing expense. One recent change matters: with effect from 16 January 2025, sponsorship services provided by a body corporate were moved to forward charge, so if the event organiser billing you is a company, it now charges GST on its invoice and RCM does not apply. Where the provider is a proprietor, trust or society, RCM continues. Verify the organiser's constitution before booking the entry, and raise a self-invoice where the provider is unregistered.
How is the place of supply decided when I sell goods?
Section 10 of the IGST Act gives the tests. Where the sale involves movement of goods, the place of supply is the location where the movement terminates for delivery to the recipient, whoever arranges the transport. Where there is no movement, it is the location of the goods at the time of delivery, which covers over-the-counter sales and sales of installed machinery in place. Where goods are assembled or installed at site, the place of supply is the site of installation. Getting this right decides whether you charge CGST plus SGST or IGST, and a Old Pallavaram seller delivering to a Bengaluru buyer charges IGST because delivery terminates in Karnataka.
What is the difference between ISD and cross-charge, and when is each used?
They solve different problems. The Input Service Distributor mechanism distributes credit on third-party input services received at the head office but consumed by branches, such as an audit fee or software licence billed centrally; the ISD passes the credit itself through ISD invoices and GSTR-6, without charging tax again. Cross-charge applies where the head office performs a service for branches using its own resources; here the head office makes an outward supply, issues a tax invoice with tax, and the branch claims ITC. With ISD distribution mandatory for common third-party input services from 1 April 2025, businesses must now run both mechanisms side by side, each for its correct category.
