Trade Profile and GST Jurisdiction for Eshwaran Koil 1st Cross Street, Thoraipakkam

GST does not distinguish between a large showroom and a small service unit — the due dates and matching systems apply equally to both. Thoraipakkam sits where Rajiv Gandhi Salai meets the Pallavaram - Thoraipakkam Road, and its frontage carries IT offices, coworking spaces, car showrooms, cloud kitchens, furniture and hardware dealers, plus paying-guest hostels serving Secretariat Colony and Kumaran Kudil. Restaurant chains on the OMR service road and promoters in the interior streets struggle with e-invoicing thresholds, blocked credit on restaurant supply and monthly GSTR-3B reconciliation against GSTR-2B. That is why our GST Notice Reply engagements in Thoraipakkam follow the same discipline whatever the client's size: written checklists, reconciliation before filing and every acknowledgement archived. Businesses from Perungudi and Karapakkam run on the same process, entirely over WhatsApp if they prefer.

GST jurisdiction for Thoraipakkam (PIN 600097): businesses here generally fall under the CGST Chennai South Commissionerate. We regularly represent clients from Thoraipakkam before this jurisdiction for registrations, clarifications and notice hearings, and can confirm your exact division and range from your GSTIN. State-jurisdiction cases are handled with the Tamil Nadu Commercial Taxes Department.
GST for Logistics and Transport Operators in Thoraipakkam
A goods transport agency issuing consignment notes normally operates under reverse charge, where the registered customer pays 5 percent and the transporter files returns with little cash outflow, but claiming input credit on trucks and tyres requires opting for forward charge by filing Annexure V before the financial year begins, a choice that then binds the whole year. Giving vehicles on hire to another GTA is exempt altogether. Transporters around Thoraipakkam also carry e-way bill duties: updating Part B on vehicle changes and extending validity within the permitted window when trips overrun. A specialist evaluates the reverse-charge-versus-forward-charge economics and keeps the fleet paperwork inspection-ready.
The simplest way to complete GST Notice Reply in Thoraipakkam is through a local GST practice: one call starts the process, documents move over WhatsApp, and fees begin at Rs.2,999.
Why Us

Why Eshwaran Koil 1st Cross Street, Thoraipakkam Businesses Choose ChennaiGST

Not a bulk-filing portal. A senior consultant knows your file, your jurisdiction and your deadlines.

Zero Tolerance for Late Fees and Interest

GSTR-3B late fees run at Rs.50 per day and interest at 18 percent per annum on unpaid tax. Our internal cut-offs sit days ahead of statutory due dates precisely so that our clients never hand the department a rupee they did not owe.

WhatsApp Updates at Every Stage

You receive a WhatsApp message when documents are received, when the draft is ready for your approval, and when the return or application is filed, along with the acknowledgement. You never have to call and ask what is happening with your file.

Deadline Tracking Done for You

GSTR-1 by the 11th, GSTR-3B by the 20th, CMP-08 by the 18th after each quarter — we maintain a compliance calendar for every client and start chasing your data well before the due date, so late fees never enter the picture.

Every Return Reviewed by a Senior Consultant

No filing leaves our desk on a junior's judgement alone. A senior GST practitioner reviews your figures, ITC claims and tax computation before submission, so errors are caught at our table and not by the department months later through a notice.

Multi-GSTIN and Branch Coordination

Businesses with registrations in more than one State, or multiple branches under one PAN, face cross-charge, stock transfer and input service distribution questions that single-GSTIN firms never see. We keep all your registrations consistent with each other, not just compliant individually.

Familiar with Chennai Jurisdictions and Officers' Expectations

We work with Chennai GST ranges and circles every week, including the jurisdiction covering Thoraipakkam. We know how local proper officers examine registrations, what supporting documents they routinely call for, and how to present a file so it moves without repeated queries.

How It Works

Our Notice Reply Process

Notice study

We read the notice line by line, identify the section invoked, the periods covered, the exact information sought and the deadline for response.

Data reconciliation

The figures alleged in the notice are reconciled against your filed returns, GSTR-2B and books, so the reply is grounded in verifiable numbers rather than assertions.

Reply drafting

We draft a professional, point-wise reply addressing every allegation, attaching reconciliations, invoices and legal support, and share the draft with you for approval.

Filing and payment

The approved reply is filed on the portal within the deadline. Where a small genuine liability exists, we advise payment through DRC-03 to limit interest and penalty.

Closure tracking

We monitor the portal for the officer's response, attend to any further queries or hearing dates, and pursue the matter until a closure or order is received.

Outcomes

What You Get

Practical outcomes our clients measure us by.

Growth Without Compliance Anxiety

New branches, new product lines and interstate sales all carry GST consequences. With standing professional support, you expand knowing registrations, invoicing and returns will keep pace with the business.

A Written Trail for Every Decision

Tax positions, rate choices and credit calls are documented as they are made, so if a question arises years later, the reasoning and evidence are on file rather than in someone's fading memory.

Every Eligible Rupee of ITC Claimed

Systematic GSTR-2B matching and supplier follow-up mean input tax credit that was leaking away under self-filing is captured each month, directly reducing the cash you pay out with every GSTR-3B.

Peace of Mind Around Due Dates

The 11th and the 20th stop being days of dread. You approve a prepared draft, we file, and the acknowledgement lands on your WhatsApp — month after month, without drama.

Reduced Dependence on One Employee

When GST knowledge lives inside a single staff member, their resignation becomes a compliance crisis. With our firm as the standing process, your filings continue uninterrupted regardless of internal staff changes.

Export Benefits Fully Utilised

With the LUT filed at the start of each financial year and refund claims tracked to credit, exporters supply without blocking funds in IGST and recover accumulated credit on schedule.

Why a Specialist Matters

With ChennaiGST vs Doing It Yourself

AspectWith ChennaiGSTDIY / Unattended
Input tax creditPurchase register matched against GSTR-2B each period, with defaulting suppliers chased so eligible credit is actually captured.Credit claimed from books alone; mismatches with GSTR-2B mean lost credit or excess claims that invite departmental queries.
Goods in transitE-way bills generated correctly and matched to invoices, so consignments pass roadside inspections without detention or penalty.A defective or missing e-way bill can mean detention at a checkpoint, with penalties that dwarf the tax on the consignment.
Due-date trackingA maintained compliance calendar with internal cut-offs days before the 11th and the 20th; we chase you for data, not the other way around.Deadlines remembered from memory or phone alarms; one busy week and the return slips past the due date.
Time costRoughly an hour a month to send data and approve drafts; the portal work, reconciliation and follow-up are ours.Hours every month lost to portal errors, JSON files, OTP failures and reworking figures — usually on the due date itself.
Portal credentials and dataLogins handled by a small engaged team under strict confidentiality, with credentials stored securely and never passed onward.Passwords circulating on chats with freelancers and part-timers, and no accountability for who has accessed your business data.
Refund claimsRFD-01 filed with complete statements and annexures, tracked from ARN to bank credit, with any deficiency memo answered promptly.Incomplete claims bounce back as deficiency memos while the refund sits unclaimed for months and working capital stays blocked.

Case Law & Notifications

What the Department and the Courts Have Said — relevant to Thoraipakkam businesses

We track every notification, circular and judgment that changes a filing position, so your returns and replies reflect the current law.

Circular

Cloud kitchens taxed as restaurants, ice cream parlours are not

Circular No. 164/20/2021-GST dated 06.10.2021 · 2021-10-06

This circular settled several long-running food service disputes. It clarified that service by cloud kitchens and central kitchens is restaurant service attracting 5 per cent without input tax credit, while ice cream parlours that sell already manufactured ice cream without any element of cooking supply goods and attract the applicable goods rate with credit. It also clarified the treatment of coaching services supplied under a government scholarship scheme, overloading charges recovered at toll plazas, and services in relation to admission to amusement parks.

Why this matters: A Chennai cloud kitchen bills at 5 per cent without credit, but an ice cream parlour selling tubs and cones must charge the goods rate and can keep its credits.

AAR Ruling

Ready to cook idli, dosa and porridge mixes taxable at 18 percent

Krishna Bhavan Foods and Sweets - AAR Tamil Nadu, Order No. TN/24/AAR/2021, dated 18 June 2021, upheld by AAAR Tamil Nadu, Order No. TN/AAAR/02/2022, dated 13 January 2022 · 2021-06-18

The applicant sold packaged ready to cook instant mixes for dosai, idli, tiffin items, sweets, health mix and porridge. It argued that these were only flours of cereals and pulses taxable at 5 percent. The Authority classified the products under heading 2106 90 as food preparations not elsewhere specified, attracting 18 percent GST, because the mixing and added ingredients took them out of the concessional flour entries. The Appellate Authority upheld that classification.

What to do about it: Chennai food manufacturers selling instant mixes should confirm whether the product is a plain flour or a preparation before applying 5 percent.

Notification

The original blanket exemption for renting a residential dwelling

Entry 12, Notification No. 12/2017-Central Tax (Rate) dated 28.06.2017 · 2017-06-28

As originally notified, Entry 12 exempted renting of a residential dwelling for use as residence, without any condition about who the tenant was. From 1 July 2017 to 17 July 2022 a house or flat let out for residential use carried no GST, whether the tenant was an individual, a firm or a company. The entry was narrowed with effect from 18 July 2022 so that the exemption no longer applies where the tenant is a registered person.

Why this matters: For rent periods up to 17 July 2022 a Chennai landlord had no GST liability on residential letting, which is a useful defence if an old notice questions those years.

Already Holding the Notice? Read It in About a Minute

Upload the PDF to our free GST Notice Analyser. It identifies which of 34 notice types you have, pulls out the DIN, GSTIN and tax period, reads the reply date printed on the notice and tells you plainly whether that date has already passed — along with the documents and reconciliations you will need. No payment, no account. If the notice does not state a date we can read, it says so rather than guessing one for you.

FAQs

Frequently Asked Questions

Straight answers from practising GST consultants — based on the CGST Act, current CBIC notifications and day-to-day portal experience.

Do you provide GST notice reply for businesses on Eshwaran Koil 1st Cross Street?
Yes. We serve businesses on and around Eshwaran Koil 1st Cross Street in Thoraipakkam — shops, offices, godowns and home-run businesses alike. Document pickup can be arranged at your premises, or you can send everything on WhatsApp and complete notice reply without leaving your counter. Call +91 - 9600 606 444 and mention your location; a consultant will confirm the fee and timeline immediately.
Are there any hidden charges for GST notice reply?
No. The fee quoted before we start is the fee you pay. Government fees, portal charges or statutory late fees, where they apply, are separate and disclosed to you in advance with the exact amount. We issue a proper GST invoice for our professional fee. If the scope of work changes — for example, an unexpected notice or additional periods — we tell you the revised fee before doing anything further.
At what amount of tax evasion can GST prosecution be launched?
Following the Finance Act 2023 amendments, prosecution under Section 132 is generally launched only where the amount of tax evaded, or input tax credit wrongly availed or utilised, exceeds Rs.2 crore, raised from the earlier Rs.1 crore. The important exception is the offence of issuing invoices without any actual supply of goods or services, where the lower threshold continues, reflecting the government's focus on fake billing networks. The same amendments also decriminalised certain lesser offences, including obstruction of an officer and failure to supply information. Prosecution is in addition to, not instead of, the monetary penalties and demand proceedings.
Can my GST consultant attend a summons hearing on my behalf in Thoraipakkam?
Generally no. A summons under Section 70 requires the person named in it to appear personally, because the officer records a statement on oath, and an authorised representative cannot substitute for you unless the officer specifically permits it. What a consultant can do is equally important: prepare a factual brief, reconcile your returns with books, compile the documents demanded, accompany you to the office where allowed, and file written submissions afterwards. Businesses in Thoraipakkam that walk into a summons unprepared often make admissions that harden into demands later, so invest time in preparation before the appearance date.
I missed the deadline to reply to a GST notice. What are my options now?
Act immediately, because delay narrows your options. If no order has been passed yet, file a belated reply with a condonation request explaining the delay and appear at the personal hearing; officers frequently take late replies on record before adjudicating. If an ex parte order has already been issued, you can file an appeal in Form APL-01 within three months of the order, paying the mandatory pre-deposit of 10 percent of the disputed tax. Many Thoraipakkam taxpayers discover notices only after the order stage because they never checked the Additional Notices tab, so a quick portal review is the first step.
I applied for GST registration in Thoraipakkam and received a REG-03 notice. What does it mean?
Form REG-03 is a notice seeking clarification on your GST registration application. The officer may question your proof of principal place of business, promoter identity documents or the nature of business declared. You must reply in Form REG-04 within seven working days of the notice, uploading the clarification and supporting documents on the GST portal. If no reply is filed, the officer can reject the application in Form REG-05. Many Thoraipakkam applications are queried over rental agreements and electricity bills, so have the property papers vetted before replying. Call +91 - 9600 606 444 if you need the REG-04 response drafted properly.
How do I get a provisional attachment on my property or bank account lifted quickly?
Rule 159(5) gives you the immediate remedy: file an objection before the Commissioner, within seven days of the attachment, contending that the property was not liable to attachment, and seek a personal hearing. If satisfied, the Commissioner releases the property through Form DRC-23. In practice, offering less disruptive security, demonstrating that the attachment cripples salaries and statutory payments, or showing that the underlying proceedings do not fall within Section 83 are effective grounds. Where the Commissioner refuses, a writ petition before the Madras High Court is the established route for Thoraipakkam businesses, since no appeal is provided against DRC-22. Call +91 - 9600 606 444 the day the bank informs you.
What happens if I ignore a GSTR-3A notice from the GST department?
If the return is not filed within fifteen days, the officer can complete a best judgment assessment under Section 62 and pass an order in Form ASMT-13, estimating your liability from GSTR-1 data, e-way bills and bank information. Such estimates are usually far higher than the actual dues. The assessment is deemed withdrawn if you file the valid return within sixty days of the order, on payment of late fee and interest. Beyond that, the demand becomes recoverable. Several traders in Thoraipakkam have faced bank account attachment for ignored GSTR-3A notices, so act within the fifteen-day window.
I received a DRC-01 notice for ITC mismatch between GSTR-3B and GSTR-2A. How do I defend it?
Start with a supplier-wise reconciliation identifying why each credit is missing from GSTR-2A, such as the supplier filing late, quoting a wrong GSTIN or reporting B2B supplies as B2C. For FY 2017-18 and 2018-19, CBIC Circular 183/15/2022 permits proving genuine credits through supplier certificates or CA certificates, which resolves many Thoraipakkam cases. Attach tax invoices, payment proofs and ledger extracts to your DRC-06 reply to establish that the conditions of Section 16 were met. Where a supplier has genuinely defaulted, quantify and pay only that portion through DRC-03 rather than conceding the entire demand.
I received an ASMT-10 scrutiny notice for my Thoraipakkam business. What exactly is it?
ASMT-10 is a notice issued under Section 61 after the officer scrutinises your filed returns and finds discrepancies, such as differences between GSTR-1 and GSTR-3B, excess ITC compared with GSTR-2B, or turnover gaps against e-way bill data. It is not yet a demand; it is an opportunity to explain. You must respond in Form ASMT-11 within thirty days, either justifying each discrepancy with reconciliations or accepting the liability and paying through DRC-03. A well-documented ASMT-11 usually closes the matter with an ASMT-12 acceptance order. Scrutiny notices are common among Thoraipakkam traders, so respond seriously but without panic.
What documents do GST audit officers usually ask for?
Expect to produce the GSTR-1, GSTR-3B and GSTR-9 filings for the audit years, audited financial statements, trial balance, sales and purchase registers, ITC ledgers with supplier-wise detail, fixed asset register, e-way bill data, bank statements, key customer and vendor agreements, stock records and reconciliations between books and returns. Officers in Tamil Nadu commonly probe ITC on blocked credits under Section 17(5), reverse charge compliance, classification and rate issues, and turnover differences with income tax filings. Preparing a reconciliation file before submission lets you spot and voluntarily correct issues through DRC-03, which is far cheaper than an audit objection. ChennaiGST builds this file for Thoraipakkam clients.
What are the rules for numbering GST invoices?
The invoice serial number must be consecutive, must not exceed sixteen characters, and may contain alphabets, numerals and the special characters hyphen and slash, in one or multiple series. Each number must be unique for a financial year, so most businesses restart their series every April with a year prefix such as 2026-27/001. Gaps in a series invite questions during audit because officers may suspect unreported invoices, and cancelled invoice numbers should be retained in records with the cancelled copy. The document series you use must also be declared in Table 13 of GSTR-1 each period.
Our small lodge in Thoraipakkam gets bookings through online travel apps. Who pays the GST?
It depends on your registration status. If the lodge is registered, you charge GST on the accommodation and the platform collects TCS on payments routed through it, which you claim back on the portal. If the lodge is not liable to be registered, the law shifts the liability to the e-commerce operator itself under Section 9(5), so the app pays the tax on accommodation booked through it and the small lodge need not register merely because it lists online. Direct walk-in business remains within your threshold computation. Keep the platform agreements and statements, since they determine who reported the tax.
Why is there GST on an under-construction flat but not on a ready-to-move one?
Construction of an apartment intended for sale is a supply of service only when any part of the consideration is received before the completion certificate is issued or before first occupation. Such under-construction sales attract 1 percent for affordable residential apartments and 5 percent for other residential apartments, both without input tax credit to the builder. Once the completion certificate is issued, sale of the building is neither a supply of goods nor of services under Schedule III, so a ready-to-move flat carries no GST at all, only stamp duty and registration charges. Timing of booking therefore changes the buyer's cost materially.
What are the GST rates on gold, silver and diamond jewellery?
The special rates on precious metals were retained in the GST 2.0 restructuring. Gold, silver and articles of jewellery attract 3 percent GST, rough and unworked diamonds attract 0.25 percent, and jewellery making charges billed separately attract 5 percent. When a jeweller bills a customer, the metal value and making charges can appear as separate line items with their respective rates on the same tax invoice. Old gold purchased from an unregistered customer in exchange transactions does not attract GST in the customer's hands, but valuation of the net supply must be documented carefully.
We hire cabs monthly for employee transport in Thoraipakkam. Who pays the GST?
If the cab operator is not a body corporate, charges 5 percent, and your business is a body corporate, the liability shifts to you under reverse charge. The entry covers renting of motor vehicles designed to carry passengers where the cost of fuel is included in the consideration. If the operator is itself a company, or bills at the higher rate with full ITC, 18 percent since the September 2025 rate rationalisation, forward charge applies and the operator collects the tax. Remember that even after paying RCM, the ITC on employee transport in vehicles seating up to thirteen is blocked under Section 17(5) unless providing the transport is obligatory for the employer under a law.
What are the current GST rate slabs after the GST 2.0 changes?
From 22 September 2025, following the 56th GST Council meeting, India moved to a simplified two-slab structure: a merit rate of 5 percent and a standard rate of 18 percent. The earlier 12 percent and 28 percent slabs were abolished. A special 40 percent rate applies to a short list of luxury and demerit goods, while the concessional rates of 3 percent on gold and silver and 0.25 percent on rough diamonds continue. Businesses in Thoraipakkam should re-verify the rate on every product they sell, because hundreds of items changed slabs on that date.
I returned an advance because the deal was cancelled. What document do I issue?
It depends on how far the paperwork went. If you had issued only a receipt voucher and no tax invoice, you issue a refund voucher under Rule 51 when returning the advance, and the tax paid on that advance can be adjusted. If a tax invoice had already been issued, the cancellation is handled through a credit note under Section 34 instead. The refund voucher records the original receipt voucher reference, the amount refunded and the tax involved. Event managers and contractors see cancellations regularly, and using the wrong document between these two is a common reconciliation error.
Which GST office handles Thoraipakkam businesses?
Businesses in Thoraipakkam (PIN 600097) generally fall under the CGST Chennai South Commissionerate, with state-jurisdiction cases handled by the Tamil Nadu Commercial Taxes Department. Your exact division and range can be confirmed from your GSTIN on the GST portal. We regularly appear before this jurisdiction for registrations, clarifications and hearings, so we know the local practice and documentation preferences.
How long does GST notice reply take in Thoraipakkam?
Draft reply in 3-5 working days. That assumes your documents are complete and there is no departmental query. We start the same day we receive your papers and tell you the realistic completion date upfront rather than an optimistic one. Where the GST portal or the officer causes delay — clarifications, physical verification or system issues — we track it daily and keep you informed on WhatsApp.
Do you provide gst notice reply for small businesses and proprietorships in Thoraipakkam?
Yes. A large share of our clients in Thoraipakkam are proprietors, small traders, shop owners, freelancers and family businesses rather than large companies. The fee of Rs.2,999 and the process are the same regardless of size, and we explain the compliance position in plain language — in Tamil or English — so you understand what is being filed on your behalf and why.
