Trade Profile and GST Jurisdiction for Eshwaran Koil 1st Cross Street, Thoraipakkam

Thoraipakkam sits where Rajiv Gandhi Salai meets the Pallavaram - Thoraipakkam Road, and its frontage carries IT offices, coworking spaces, car showrooms, cloud kitchens, furniture and hardware dealers, plus paying-guest hostels serving Secretariat Colony and Kumaran Kudil. Restaurant chains on the OMR service road and promoters in the interior streets struggle with e-invoicing thresholds, blocked credit on restaurant supply and monthly GSTR-3B reconciliation against GSTR-2B. For businesses here, staying on the right side of GST is not optional — buyers check compliance, and the department's systems match every return. Our firm provides GSTR-1 & GSTR-3B Monthly Filing to clients across Thoraipakkam and neighbouring Perungudi and Karapakkam, combining Chennai jurisdiction familiarity with disciplined deadline tracking. Whether you run a shop, a service practice or a growing trading concern, we handle the portal work so you can stay focused on the business itself.

GST jurisdiction for Thoraipakkam (PIN 600097): businesses here generally fall under the CGST Chennai South Commissionerate. We regularly represent clients from Thoraipakkam before this jurisdiction for registrations, clarifications and notice hearings, and can confirm your exact division and range from your GSTIN. State-jurisdiction cases are handled with the Tamil Nadu Commercial Taxes Department.
GST for Software Exporters in Thoraipakkam
An export invoice is only the beginning; the law tests whether each supply meets every condition of Section 2(6) of the IGST Act, and Rule 96A adds a deadline: payment for exported services must be realised within one year, failing which the tax skipped under your undertaking becomes payable with interest. That makes an invoice-wise FIRC trail essential, mapping each foreign remittance to specific export invoices rather than lumping receipts together. Contracts between an Indian subsidiary and its overseas parent need careful drafting so the two are treated as distinct persons. A specialist builds the realisation register and remittance mapping that keeps zero-rating defensible year after year.
To get GSTR-1 & GSTR-3B Monthly Filing in Thoraipakkam, share your documents by WhatsApp or visit the office, approve the prepared draft, and the filing is completed on the GST portal from Rs.749.
Why Us

Why Eshwaran Koil 1st Cross Street, Thoraipakkam Businesses Choose ChennaiGST

Not a bulk-filing portal. A senior consultant knows your file, your jurisdiction and your deadlines.

Reverse Charge Tracked, Not Forgotten

Freight paid to transporters, advocate fees, imported services and other notified supplies attract GST under reverse charge, with self-invoicing where the supplier is unregistered. We maintain a running RCM check every period, because this is the liability self-filers most consistently miss.

Experience Across Trades and Sectors

Traders, manufacturers, contractors, e-commerce sellers, professionals and service exporters — we have handled GST for all of them. Whatever mix of goods and services your Thoraipakkam business supplies, the rate, classification and place-of-supply questions have almost certainly crossed our desk before.

Handholding for First-Time Registrants

A new GSTIN comes with obligations nobody explains at approval — the invoice series rules, displaying the registration certificate and GSTIN at your premises, and the first return cycle. We walk new registrants in Thoraipakkam through each of these so month one starts correctly.

Cancelled GSTIN? We Handle Revocation Too

A registration cancelled for non-filing is not the end of the road. We bring the pending returns up to date, clear the dues and file the revocation application in REG-21 within the permitted window, restoring suspended and cancelled GSTINs to active status.

Job Work Movements Tracked Through ITC-04

Goods sent to job workers must move on delivery challans, return within the statutory period, and be reported in ITC-04. We track every outward and return leg for manufacturing clients in Thoraipakkam, so inputs sent out for processing never quietly convert into a deemed supply carrying tax and interest.

Refund and Export Experience That Shows

From filing the LUT in RFD-11 at the start of each financial year to preparing RFD-01 refund claims with complete annexures, we know what makes a refund file move. Exporters and inverted-duty businesses come to us specifically for this.

How It Works

Our Monthly Returns Process

Monthly data collection

At month end we remind you and collect sales invoices, purchase bills and credit notes in whatever format you maintain, including Excel, Tally exports or scanned copies.

GSTR-1 preparation and filing

We prepare invoice-wise outward supply details, validate GSTINs of your B2B customers, summarise B2C supplies and file GSTR-1 on the portal before the 11th.

ITC reconciliation with GSTR-2B

We download your auto-drafted GSTR-2B, match it against purchase records, and claim only eligible input tax credit so that mismatches do not trigger scrutiny notices later.

Tax computation and confirmation

We compute net tax payable after ITC set-off, share the working with you for approval, and generate the payment challan for any cash liability.

GSTR-3B filing and reporting

After your confirmation and tax payment, we file GSTR-3B before the 20th and send you both filed acknowledgements along with a one-page summary of the month.

Outcomes

What You Get

Practical outcomes our clients measure us by.

Tax Paid Under the Right Head

Getting IGST versus CGST and SGST right at the invoice stage spares you the painful cycle of paying the correct head again and pursuing a refund of the amount paid under the wrong one.

Confidence During Officer Interactions

When a query or verification comes, you respond through a professional who deals with the department regularly, in the department's own language and format, instead of facing an officer's letter alone.

No Money Idling in the Cash Ledger

Excess balances parked in the electronic cash ledger are identified during regular ledger reviews and either utilised against upcoming liability or claimed back as a refund, instead of sitting interest-free with the government.

A Professional Face on Every Invoice

Correct, complete tax invoices signal a well-run business to customers, vendors and banks alike, quietly strengthening your credibility in every transaction where your paperwork is seen.

Smooth Scheme Transitions

Whether moving between composition and regular scheme, opting into QRMP, or crossing the e-invoice threshold at Rs.5 crore, transitions are planned in advance rather than discovered after a compliance breach.

Stronger Standing with Corporate Buyers

Large buyers check vendor GST compliance before releasing payments and renewing contracts. A clean filing record with timely GSTR-1 uploads keeps your invoices reflecting in their GSTR-2B and your payments unblocked.

Why a Specialist Matters

With ChennaiGST vs Doing It Yourself

AspectWith ChennaiGSTDIY / Unattended
Registration and amendmentsQuery-resistant applications prepared correctly the first time, with supporting documents matched to what proper officers actually verify.Repeated clarification memos and resubmissions, with weeks lost because a rent agreement or premises photograph did not meet expectations.
Due-date trackingA maintained compliance calendar with internal cut-offs days before the 11th and the 20th; we chase you for data, not the other way around.Deadlines remembered from memory or phone alarms; one busy week and the return slips past the due date.
Supplier defaultsSuppliers who stop uploading invoices are identified within the period and pursued before their default becomes your blocked credit.Missing supplier invoices surface only when credit is denied, by which time recovering the amount from the vendor is difficult.
Record keepingEvery return, challan, acknowledgement and working paper archived in an organised folder, retrievable in minutes years later.Documents scattered across email, downloads and old phones; assembling records for a bank or an audit takes days.
Refund claimsRFD-01 filed with complete statements and annexures, tracked from ARN to bank credit, with any deficiency memo answered promptly.Incomplete claims bounce back as deficiency memos while the refund sits unclaimed for months and working capital stays blocked.
Annual return preparationMonthly reconciliations roll naturally into GSTR-9, filed comfortably before 31 December with figures already agreed through the year.Twelve months of unmatched data reconstructed in December, with differences discovered too late to be corrected cleanly.

Portal Advisory

New portal statement tracks ITC reversed and reclaimed

GSTN Advisory dated 31 August 2023 — Electronic Credit Reversal and Re-claimed Statement · 2023-08-31

GSTN introduced the Electronic Credit Reversal and Re-claimed Statement on the portal to track credit reversed in Table 4B(2) of GSTR-3B and later reclaimed in Tables 4D(1) and 4A(5). It applied from the August 2023 return for monthly filers and from the July to September 2023 quarter for quarterly filers. The cumulative opening balance of reversals awaiting reclaim had to be reported by 30 November 2023, with up to three amendments allowed until 31 December 2023. The portal now warns when reclaimed credit exceeds the available balance.

How we apply it: Maintain a running register of credit reversed and reclaimed, because the portal flags excess reclaims and the data feeds departmental scrutiny.

Case Law

Madras High Court: no Section 50 interest where tax was deposited in the electronic cash ledger by the due date

Eicher Motors Ltd v. Superintendent of GST and Central Excise — Madras High Court, 2024 · 2024-01-23

Eicher Motors had deposited tax amounts into its electronic cash ledger before the due dates but filed GSTR-3B belatedly owing to transitional credit issues, and the department demanded interest under Section 50. The Madras High Court held that once the amount is credited to the Government via the electronic cash ledger by the due date, the tax liability stands discharged to that extent, and no interest is leviable merely because the return was filed late. This reasoning has since been followed by other High Courts.

Why this matters: If cash was parked in your electronic cash ledger before the due date, contest any interest demand for delayed GSTR-3B filing on that amount.

AAR Ruling

Renting property to a government department is still taxable

Tamil Nadu Labour Welfare Board - AAR Tamil Nadu, advance ruling reported August 2021 · 2021

The Board, based at the DMS Campus in Teynampet, Chennai, owned immovable property and let portions of it to government departments and business entities. It asked whether it needed registration and whether the rent was exempt because the tenant was the government. The Authority held that renting of commercial property by the Board to a government or a business entity is not an exempt supply, so GST was payable on the rent collected.

Practical effect: Chennai landlords letting premises to government offices must charge GST unless a specific exemption entry clearly covers the letting.

FAQs

Frequently Asked Questions

Straight answers from practising GST consultants — based on the CGST Act, current CBIC notifications and day-to-day portal experience.

What documents are required for GSTR-1 & GSTR-3B monthly filing in Thoraipakkam?
For GSTR-1 & GSTR-3B monthly filing you will generally need: Sales invoices or sales register for the month, Purchase invoices or purchase register, Credit notes and debit notes issued during the month, GST portal login credentials, Bank statement for the period, if reconciliation is needed. The exact list depends on your constitution — proprietorship, partnership, LLP or company — and on the specifics of your case. Send what you have on WhatsApp to +91 - 9600 606 444 and we will confirm within the same working day exactly what else is needed, so nothing is rejected later for a missing paper.
Do you provide gst return filing for small businesses and proprietorships in Thoraipakkam?
Yes. A large share of our clients in Thoraipakkam are proprietors, small traders, shop owners, freelancers and family businesses rather than large companies. The fee of Rs.749/month and the process are the same regardless of size, and we explain the compliance position in plain language — in Tamil or English — so you understand what is being filed on your behalf and why.
How are B2B and B2C invoices reported differently in GST returns?
B2B invoices, meaning supplies to registered buyers, are reported invoice by invoice in Table 4 of GSTR-1 with the buyer's GSTIN, so each one flows into that buyer's GSTR-2B for credit. B2C supplies are split into two streams: large inter-state invoices above the threshold are reported invoice-wise in Table 5, while all remaining B2C sales are reported as consolidated, rate-wise totals per state in Table 7. This is why capturing the buyer's GSTIN correctly at billing matters so much; an invoice keyed as B2C by a cashier gives the registered buyer no credit and triggers correction requests later.
My shop was closed for a month. Can I skip filing GST returns for that period?
No. Once you hold an active GSTIN, returns must be filed for every tax period regardless of business activity. If there were no sales and no purchases, you must file nil GSTR-1 and nil GSTR-3B for that month. Skipping creates a break in the sequential filing chain, blocks future returns, accumulates late fees and can eventually lead to suspension of registration. Nil returns take only minutes and can even be filed by SMS. If your business in Thoraipakkam has periods of inactivity, ask us about our low-cost nil filing plan.
Do I have to report HSN codes in my GSTR-1?
Yes. Taxpayers with aggregate turnover up to Rs.5 crore must report a 4-digit HSN summary for B2B supplies in Table 12 of GSTR-1, while those above Rs.5 crore must report 6-digit HSN codes for all supplies. The portal now validates HSN entries against its master list, so wrong or truncated codes can block filing. Getting HSN classification right also determines your tax rate, so it is worth a one-time review of your product list. Our team in Thoraipakkam maintains a verified HSN master for every client.
Can my company claim ITC on GST paid to a contractor building our new office?
Generally no. Section 17(5) blocks input tax credit on works contract services and on goods or services used for construction of immovable property on your own account, even when the building is used for business. The exception is plant and machinery, so credit on GST paid for installing machinery, equipment or apparatus fixed to earth remains available. The block does not apply within the construction chain itself: a sub-contractor's works contract service supplied to the main contractor is creditable for the main contractor, since it is used for an onward works contract supply. Classifying civil costs correctly during a project saves disputes at audit.
My landlord in Thoraipakkam has no GSTIN but my business is registered. Who pays GST on the shop rent?
You do. With effect from 10 October 2024, renting of immovable property other than a residential dwelling by an unregistered person to a registered person was brought under reverse charge through Notification 09/2024-Central Tax (Rate). So a registered trader renting a shop from an unregistered landlord must pay 18 percent under RCM through GSTR-3B and can claim it back as input tax credit if eligible. Composition taxpayers have since been kept outside this entry, given they cannot claim credit. Many small businesses in Thoraipakkam are still unaware of this 2024 change, and scrutiny notices on rent entries have already begun appearing. Call +91 - 9600 606 444 to regularise past months.
When is GSTR-1 due for my business in Thoraipakkam?
GSTR-1, the statement of outward supplies, is due on the 11th of the following month for taxpayers filing monthly. If you have opted for the QRMP scheme, the quarterly GSTR-1 is due on the 13th of the month after the quarter ends. Filing on time matters because your invoices flow into your buyers' GSTR-2B, which decides their input tax credit. Our team in Thoraipakkam tracks these dates for every client so nothing slips. Call +91 - 9600 606 444 if you need a filing reminder set up.
What is IFF in the QRMP scheme?
The Invoice Furnishing Facility (IFF) is an optional facility for QRMP taxpayers to upload B2B invoices for the first two months of a quarter, by the 13th of the following month, up to Rs.50 lakh of invoice value per month. Invoices uploaded through IFF appear in your buyers' GSTR-2B immediately, so they can claim input tax credit without waiting for your quarterly GSTR-1. If your customers are registered businesses that press for timely credit, using IFF keeps them happy. We file IFF for QRMP clients in Thoraipakkam as part of the standard package.
What is the 180-day payment rule for input tax credit?
Under the second proviso to Section 16(2) read with Rule 37, if you do not pay your supplier the invoice value including tax within 180 days from the invoice date, you must reverse the proportionate ITC in GSTR-3B, along with interest at 18 percent per annum from the date of availment. The credit can be re-availed, without any time limit, once payment is actually made. Long credit periods negotiated with vendors around Thoraipakkam frequently breach this rule unnoticed, so your reconciliation should include an ageing of creditors mapped to ITC claimed. Call +91 - 9600 606 444 if you need this ageing built into your monthly process.
I heard old ITC demands for 2017-18 to 2020-21 were given relief. What is Section 16(5)?
The Finance (No. 2) Act 2024 inserted Section 16(5) retrospectively, allowing ITC for financial years 2017-18 to 2020-21 if it was claimed in a GSTR-3B filed on or before 30 November 2021, even though it breached the original Section 16(4) deadline. Section 16(6) gives similar relief for returns filed after revocation of a cancelled registration. Where demands were already confirmed on this ground, a special rectification procedure was notified for taxpayers to have such orders corrected. If your Thoraipakkam business paid or is contesting a 16(4) demand for these years, have the eligibility under 16(5) examined; call +91 - 9600 606 444 for a review.
Our company paid fees to a lawyer. Who pays the GST on this?
You do, as the recipient. Legal services supplied by an individual advocate, a firm of advocates or a senior advocate to a business entity are notified under Section 9(3), so the advocate does not charge GST and your business pays 18 percent under reverse charge in cash through GSTR-3B, claiming it back as ITC if otherwise eligible. Relief exists for small recipients: legal services to a business entity whose turnover is within the registration threshold are exempt. Since the advocate is usually unregistered, remember to raise a self-invoice and payment voucher for the transaction. Litigation-heavy businesses in Thoraipakkam should reconcile their legal expense ledger against RCM paid every quarter.
I am a composition dealer. Which returns apply to me and when?
Composition taxpayers do not file GSTR-1 or GSTR-3B. Instead, you pay tax every quarter through statement CMP-08, due by the 18th of the month following the quarter, and file one annual return, GSTR-4, by 30 June following the financial year. The scheme is available for turnover up to Rs.1.5 crore for goods, with a separate 6 percent scheme for service providers up to Rs.50 lakh. Missing CMP-08 for consecutive quarters can block your e-way bill facility. Our composition package covers all four CMP-08 filings and the annual GSTR-4 at Rs.749 per year.
If I open a bulk bag and sell rice loose by weight, is that sale taxable?
No. The 5% levy on specified food items applies only when they are supplied in pre-packaged and labelled form in packs up to 25 kilograms. When a retailer opens bulk stock and weighs out loose quantities against each customer's order, the supply is not of a pre-packaged commodity, so it remains exempt. What you cannot do is sell an intact labelled retail pack and bill it as loose. Keep purchase records showing bulk procurement and maintain the loose counter separately from the packed shelf, because officers test this distinction during inspections of grocery businesses. When in doubt on a product, call +91 - 9600 606 444.
What is the penalty for running a business without GST registration?
A taxable person who is liable to register but fails to do so faces a penalty of Rs.10,000 or the amount of tax evaded, whichever is higher, under Section 122 of the CGST Act. Beyond the penalty, the department can demand the tax for the entire unregistered period with interest at 18 percent per annum, and you cannot recover that tax from customers you billed without GST. Goods moved without registration and e-way bills, required for consignments above Rs.50,000, also risk detention. If your turnover has crossed the threshold, registering within thirty days is far cheaper than regularising later.
What is the difference between the electronic cash ledger and the electronic credit ledger?
The electronic cash ledger reflects actual money you have deposited through challans, plus TDS and TCS credits you have accepted; it can pay tax, interest, penalty, late fee and any other amount. The electronic credit ledger reflects input tax credit claimed through your returns, and it can be used only for paying output tax, never for interest, penalty or late fee. Both are visible under Services, then Ledgers, after login. Refund of an excess cash balance is possible, while credit is refundable only in specified cases such as exports and inverted duty structure.
My customer in Mumbai asked me to deliver goods directly to his buyer in Thoraipakkam. How do I bill this?
This is a bill-to ship-to transaction under Section 10(1)(b). When goods are delivered to a third party on the instruction of your customer, the law deems your customer's principal place of business as the place of supply, not the actual delivery point. So you invoice the Mumbai customer with IGST even though the goods physically moved within Tamil Nadu, and the Mumbai customer raises a second invoice on the ultimate recipient in Thoraipakkam. Only one e-way bill is needed for the movement, generated by either party with both invoice legs captured. Wrongly billing the delivery-point state is a classic error that misplaces the credit chain entirely.
We sponsored a trade event. Does reverse charge apply to the sponsorship amount?
If your business is a body corporate or partnership firm, sponsorship services received are notified under Section 9(3) and you must pay 18 percent GST under reverse charge, with ITC available since sponsorship is a marketing expense. One recent change matters: with effect from 16 January 2025, sponsorship services provided by a body corporate were moved to forward charge, so if the event organiser billing you is a company, it now charges GST on its invoice and RCM does not apply. Where the provider is a proprietor, trust or society, RCM continues. Verify the organiser's constitution before booking the entry, and raise a self-invoice where the provider is unregistered.
How long does GSTR-1 & GSTR-3B monthly filing take in Thoraipakkam?
Filed before the 11th and 20th of every month. That assumes your documents are complete and there is no departmental query. We start the same day we receive your papers and tell you the realistic completion date upfront rather than an optimistic one. Where the GST portal or the officer causes delay — clarifications, physical verification or system issues — we track it daily and keep you informed on WhatsApp.
What is the process for GSTR-1 & GSTR-3B monthly filing?
The process runs in clear stages: Monthly data collection; GSTR-1 preparation and filing; ITC reconciliation with GSTR-2B; Tax computation and confirmation. A senior consultant reviews your file at each stage rather than passing it to a data-entry desk, and you receive a confirmation with the filed documents once it is complete. You always know which stage your work is at — we update you on WhatsApp instead of leaving you to follow up.
Are there any hidden charges for GSTR-1 & GSTR-3B monthly filing?
No. The fee quoted before we start is the fee you pay. Government fees, portal charges or statutory late fees, where they apply, are separate and disclosed to you in advance with the exact amount. We issue a proper GST invoice for our professional fee. If the scope of work changes — for example, an unexpected notice or additional periods — we tell you the revised fee before doing anything further.
