Trade Profile and GST Jurisdiction for Vepery Church Road, Vepery

Vepery adjoins the Periamet leather market and carries a long tradition of hide merchants, leather goods traders and exporters along Vepery High Road and Raja Muthiah Road, with the Madras Veterinary College anchoring the locality. Leather exporters here depend on annual LUT filing in RFD-11 and timely RFD-01 refund claims of accumulated input tax credit on zero-rated exports. From a first registration to the annual return, the full range of GSTR-1 & GSTR-3B Monthly Filing is available to Vepery businesses without stepping far from the shop or office — documents travel over WhatsApp, and our Chennai premises are open to anyone who prefers a face-to-face discussion. We serve Purasawalkam and Egmore on the same footing, applying one rule everywhere: reconcile before filing, file before the due date, and keep the client informed at every stage.

GST jurisdiction for Vepery (PIN 600007): businesses here generally fall under the CGST Chennai North Commissionerate. We regularly represent clients from Vepery before this jurisdiction for registrations, clarifications and notice hearings, and can confirm your exact division and range from your GSTIN. State-jurisdiction cases are handled with the Tamil Nadu Commercial Taxes Department.
GST Support for Wholesale Traders in Vepery
Wholesale trade runs on thin margins and heavy invoice volumes, so small GST errors multiply quickly. Once taxable supplies cross Rs.50 lakh in a month, Rule 86B requires at least one percent of output tax to be paid in cash regardless of credit balance, and quantity or turnover discounts must be passed through credit notes that satisfy Section 15(3)(b) to legally reduce taxable value. A specialist keeps your invoice-wise B2B reporting clean so retailer customers receive credit without friction, watches the Rs.5 crore e-invoicing threshold as volumes grow, and documents discount schemes in agreements the department will accept. Wholesalers in Vepery can call +91 - 9600 606 444 for a margin-safe compliance review.
The cost of GSTR-1 & GSTR-3B Monthly Filing in Vepery starts at Rs.749 as a fixed professional fee quoted upfront, with any government fees shown separately and no hidden additions later.
Why Us

Why Vepery Church Road, Vepery Businesses Choose ChennaiGST

Not a bulk-filing portal. A senior consultant knows your file, your jurisdiction and your deadlines.

Correct HSN Codes and Rates, Verified

GSTR-1 requires four-digit HSN reporting for turnover up to Rs.5 crore and six digits above it, and a wrong code often means a wrong rate. We verify the classification of what you actually supply, so your invoices and returns rest on defensible codes.

QRMP Managed Properly, Not Just Opted Into

Quarterly filing still demands monthly attention — IFF uploads so your buyers see their credit on time, and tax payment through PMT-06 by the 25th for the first two months of each quarter. We run that monthly rhythm so QRMP saves you effort without creating gaps.

Strict Data Confidentiality

Your sales figures, supplier lists and login credentials are handled only by our engaged team, stored securely and never shared with any third party. Many of our clients in Vepery compete with each other; complete confidentiality is a condition of our work.

Complete Documentation, Properly Archived

Every acknowledgement, challan, computation sheet and filed return is saved and shared with you in an organised folder. When a bank, buyer or GST officer asks for a document from two years ago, it reaches you the same day without any scrambling.

Proactive Alerts Before Problems Become Notices

If your GSTR-1 and GSTR-3B start drifting apart, if a large supplier stops filing, or if your turnover approaches the e-invoice threshold, we flag it to you immediately. Early warnings from our side are cheaper than departmental letters later.

Cancelled GSTIN? We Handle Revocation Too

A registration cancelled for non-filing is not the end of the road. We bring the pending returns up to date, clear the dues and file the revocation application in REG-21 within the permitted window, restoring suspended and cancelled GSTINs to active status.

How It Works

Our Monthly Returns Process

Monthly data collection

At month end we remind you and collect sales invoices, purchase bills and credit notes in whatever format you maintain, including Excel, Tally exports or scanned copies.

GSTR-1 preparation and filing

We prepare invoice-wise outward supply details, validate GSTINs of your B2B customers, summarise B2C supplies and file GSTR-1 on the portal before the 11th.

ITC reconciliation with GSTR-2B

We download your auto-drafted GSTR-2B, match it against purchase records, and claim only eligible input tax credit so that mismatches do not trigger scrutiny notices later.

Tax computation and confirmation

We compute net tax payable after ITC set-off, share the working with you for approval, and generate the payment challan for any cash liability.

GSTR-3B filing and reporting

After your confirmation and tax payment, we file GSTR-3B before the 20th and send you both filed acknowledgements along with a one-page summary of the month.

Outcomes

What You Get

Practical outcomes our clients measure us by.

Slips Settled Before They Become Notices

Where a genuine error is found in a past period, voluntary payment through DRC-03 before any notice issues closes the matter at minimal cost, instead of letting it ripen into a demand with penalty.

Stronger Standing with Corporate Buyers

Large buyers check vendor GST compliance before releasing payments and renewing contracts. A clean filing record with timely GSTR-1 uploads keeps your invoices reflecting in their GSTR-2B and your payments unblocked.

Due-Diligence Ready for Investors and Buyers

Funding rounds, partnerships and business sales all begin with a compliance check. A clean, documented GST history lets you clear that scrutiny quickly instead of watching a deal stall over old filing gaps.

Credit Notes That Actually Reduce Your Tax

Sales returns, discounts and price revisions are adjusted through properly reported credit notes within the statutory window, so you never keep paying tax on turnover you have already reversed.

Correct Tax the First Time

Rates, reverse charge, place of supply and blocked credits are applied correctly at the preparation stage, so you neither overpay tax you do not owe nor underpay and invite demands with penalty later.

Lower Total Cost of Compliance

A fixed professional fee is almost always cheaper than the combination of late fees, interest, lost credit and staff hours that informal, last-minute compliance quietly accumulates over a year.

Why a Specialist Matters

With ChennaiGST vs Doing It Yourself

AspectWith ChennaiGSTDIY / Unattended
Portal credentials and dataLogins handled by a small engaged team under strict confidentiality, with credentials stored securely and never passed onward.Passwords circulating on chats with freelancers and part-timers, and no accountability for who has accessed your business data.
Late fees and interestFilings go in ahead of statutory dates, so the Rs.50-per-day late fee and 18 percent interest never arise.Late fees accumulate silently every delayed day, and interest on unpaid tax runs at 18 percent per annum.
Risk of noticesGSTR-1, GSTR-3B and GSTR-2B reconciled before filing, removing the mismatches that trigger most scrutiny notices.Inconsistent figures across returns quietly build a mismatch history that surfaces later as ASMT-10 scrutiny or a demand notice.
When a notice arrivesA professional drafts the reply in the department's format and files it within the statutory window, such as thirty days for ASMT-11.You face departmental language alone, and a missed reply deadline can convert a simple query into a demand with penalty.
Annual return preparationMonthly reconciliations roll naturally into GSTR-9, filed comfortably before 31 December with figures already agreed through the year.Twelve months of unmatched data reconstructed in December, with differences discovered too late to be corrected cleanly.
Time costRoughly an hour a month to send data and approve drafts; the portal work, reconciliation and follow-up are ours.Hours every month lost to portal errors, JSON files, OTP failures and reworking figures — usually on the due date itself.

Case Law & Notifications

What the Department and the Courts Have Said — relevant to Vepery businesses

We track every notification, circular and judgment that changes a filing position, so your returns and replies reflect the current law.

Notification

Concessional rates for handicraft goods

Notification No. 21/2018-Central Tax (Rate), dated 26 July 2018 (G.S.R. 695(E)) · 2018-07-26

This notification created a dedicated table of handicraft items with concessional rates, covering handcrafted candles, carved and inlaid wood products, wooden frames, art ware of cork and sholapith, basketwork and mats of vegetable material including korai mats, handmade paper, papier mache articles, coir products, handmade carpets, bamboo and cane ware. It operated independently of the main goods schedule so that genuine artisan output was not pushed into higher slabs by tariff classification.

Why this matters: Traders in korai mats, coir goods and wooden handicrafts from Tamil Nadu should classify under this notification rather than the general chapter rate.

Circular

Food delivery platforms to pay the GST on restaurant service from January 2022

Circular No. 167/23/2021-GST dated 17 December 2021 · 2021-12-17

Following the 45th GST Council meeting, restaurant service supplied through an e-commerce operator was notified under section 9(5) with effect from 1 January 2022. CBIC clarified that the operator, and not the restaurant, is liable to pay the tax on such supplies, must discharge it in cash without using input tax credit, and issues the invoice for the service. The restaurant continues to pay tax on its own dine-in and direct sales, and the aggregate turnover of the restaurant still includes the supplies made through the platform.

What it means for you: Chennai restaurants listed on delivery platforms must separate platform sales from direct sales in their records, because the tax on the former is paid by the platform.

Portal Advisory

Negative liability in GSTR-4 for composition dealers and how it was corrected

GSTN Advisory, 2021 — negative liability appearing in Form GSTR-4 filed by composition taxpayers · 2021

Composition taxpayers who left Table 6 of the annual return GSTR-4 blank found that the tax already paid through Form CMP-08 was treated as an excess payment, creating a negative liability that was then adjusted against later quarters. GSTN clarified that outward supply and reverse charge figures must be entered in Table 6 even though the tax has already been paid, and arranged for wrongly created negative balances to be reversed.

What it means for you: Composition dealers in Chennai must complete Table 6 of GSTR-4 each year, or the portal will show a false credit and later recover it.

FAQs

Frequently Asked Questions

Straight answers from practising GST consultants — based on the CGST Act, current CBIC notifications and day-to-day portal experience.

Which GST office handles Vepery businesses?
Businesses in Vepery (PIN 600007) generally fall under the CGST Chennai North Commissionerate, with state-jurisdiction cases handled by the Tamil Nadu Commercial Taxes Department. Your exact division and range can be confirmed from your GSTIN on the GST portal. We regularly appear before this jurisdiction for registrations, clarifications and hearings, so we know the local practice and documentation preferences.
Is there a GST consultant near Vepery for gst return filing?
Yes. We serve Vepery and the surrounding areas from our office at Porur, Chennai - 600 116, Tamil Nadu, and most monthly returns work is completed online — you send documents on WhatsApp and we handle the portal work. If you prefer in-person help, we offer doorstep document pickup across Vepery and you are welcome to visit our office. Reach us on +91 - 9600 606 444 between 9 AM and 8 PM, Monday to Saturday.
How does a GTA opt for forward charge, and by when must it be done?
The option is exercised by filing the Annexure V declaration on the GST portal. For an existing GTA, the window for a financial year runs from 1 January to 31 March of the preceding financial year, so the choice for the coming year must be locked in by 31 March. A newly registered GTA must file the declaration within forty-five days of applying for registration or one month from the date of obtaining registration, whichever is later. Once exercised, the option continues for future years automatically unless the GTA files Annexure VI to revert to reverse charge. Missing the window means remaining under the default reverse charge mechanism for the whole year.
What is GSTR-2B and why does my consultant match it before filing?
GSTR-2B is an auto-drafted statement of the input tax credit available to you, generated on the 14th of every month from the GSTR-1 and IFF filings of your suppliers. Input tax credit in GSTR-3B can only be claimed for invoices appearing in GSTR-2B, so matching your purchase register against it before filing is essential. If a supplier has not uploaded an invoice, the credit must be deferred and the supplier followed up. This monthly reconciliation is included in our return filing service for businesses in Vepery.
When is GSTR-1 due for my business in Vepery?
GSTR-1, the statement of outward supplies, is due on the 11th of the following month for taxpayers filing monthly. If you have opted for the QRMP scheme, the quarterly GSTR-1 is due on the 13th of the month after the quarter ends. Filing on time matters because your invoices flow into your buyers' GSTR-2B, which decides their input tax credit. Our team in Vepery tracks these dates for every client so nothing slips. Call +91 - 9600 606 444 if you need a filing reminder set up.
My landlord in Vepery has no GSTIN but my business is registered. Who pays GST on the shop rent?
You do. With effect from 10 October 2024, renting of immovable property other than a residential dwelling by an unregistered person to a registered person was brought under reverse charge through Notification 09/2024-Central Tax (Rate). So a registered trader renting a shop from an unregistered landlord must pay 18 percent under RCM through GSTR-3B and can claim it back as input tax credit if eligible. Composition taxpayers have since been kept outside this entry, given they cannot claim credit. Many small businesses in Vepery are still unaware of this 2024 change, and scrutiny notices on rent entries have already begun appearing. Call +91 - 9600 606 444 to regularise past months.
What documents do I need to give my GST consultant every month?
For monthly returns you need your sales invoices (or a sales register), purchase invoices, credit and debit notes, details of advances received for services, and any export or SEZ supply documents. If you use accounting software, an exported sales and purchase summary is enough. We then match your purchases against GSTR-2B on the portal before claiming input tax credit. Most clients in Vepery simply share their data on WhatsApp or email by the 5th of each month and we handle the rest. Call +91 - 9600 606 444 to set up a simple monthly routine.
My workshop bills customers for spare parts and labour together. How should GST be charged?
The accepted practice, supported by CBIC's clarification on servicing, is that where the invoice separately shows the value of parts and the value of labour, each takes its own treatment: parts as a supply of goods and repair labour as a service at 18%. Since auto components also moved to 18% from September 2025, both lines of a typical job card now carry the same rate, which removes the old temptation to shift value between parts and labour. Still keep the split, because HSN and SAC reporting in GSTR-1 differ for goods and services. Workshops can call +91 - 9600 606 444 for invoice-format templates.
What is the late fee for filing GSTR-9 after the due date?
From FY 2022-23 onwards, the late fee is turnover-linked. For turnover up to Rs.5 crore it is Rs.50 per day (Rs.25 CGST plus Rs.25 SGST) capped at 0.04 percent of turnover; for turnover between Rs.5 crore and Rs.20 crore it is Rs.100 per day with the same cap; and above Rs.20 crore it is Rs.200 per day capped at 0.5 percent of turnover. The fee accrues until the date of filing, so delays get expensive for larger businesses. Filing before 31 December avoids the entire cost.
How do I claim credit of the IGST paid on imported goods?
IGST paid at customs on imported goods is fully creditable, with the bill of entry serving as the prescribed duty-paying document instead of a tax invoice. The data flows from ICEGATE into your GSTR-2B, and the claim is made in Table 4(A)(1) of GSTR-3B. If a bill of entry does not appear, use the search BoE facility on the GST portal to fetch the record before assuming it is missing. Remember that basic customs duty and the social welfare surcharge are never creditable; only the IGST and compensation cess components are. Importers in Vepery should reconcile their ICEGATE ledger with GSTR-2B quarterly, because clearance-date mismatches are frequent.
I heard old ITC demands for 2017-18 to 2020-21 were given relief. What is Section 16(5)?
The Finance (No. 2) Act 2024 inserted Section 16(5) retrospectively, allowing ITC for financial years 2017-18 to 2020-21 if it was claimed in a GSTR-3B filed on or before 30 November 2021, even though it breached the original Section 16(4) deadline. Section 16(6) gives similar relief for returns filed after revocation of a cancelled registration. Where demands were already confirmed on this ground, a special rectification procedure was notified for taxpayers to have such orders corrected. If your Vepery business paid or is contesting a 16(4) demand for these years, have the eligibility under 16(5) examined; call +91 - 9600 606 444 for a review.
I am a composition dealer. Which returns apply to me and when?
Composition taxpayers do not file GSTR-1 or GSTR-3B. Instead, you pay tax every quarter through statement CMP-08, due by the 18th of the month following the quarter, and file one annual return, GSTR-4, by 30 June following the financial year. The scheme is available for turnover up to Rs.1.5 crore for goods, with a separate 6 percent scheme for service providers up to Rs.50 lakh. Missing CMP-08 for consecutive quarters can block your e-way bill facility. Our composition package covers all four CMP-08 filings and the annual GSTR-4 at Rs.749 per year.
Our security agency does not charge GST on its bills. Is that correct?
Quite possibly, yes. Since 1 January 2019, security services meaning supply of security personnel, when provided by any person other than a body corporate to a registered person, fall under reverse charge, so the agency correctly bills without tax and you pay 18 percent through GSTR-3B in cash, claiming ITC. If your security agency is a private limited company, however, RCM does not apply and it must charge GST on its invoice under forward charge. Composition taxpayers as recipients are excluded from this entry. Confirm the agency's constitution from its PAN, because paying under the wrong mechanism creates trouble for both sides.
What is the GST rate on a works contract for a commercial building?
Under GST, a works contract relating to immovable property is treated wholly as a supply of services, and the standard rate is 18 percent on the contract value, with the contractor eligible for input tax credit on cement, steel and other inputs. This applies to construction, fabrication, erection, repair and renovation contracts for factories, offices and commercial buildings. The old VAT-plus-service-tax splitting of material and labour is gone; one rate applies to the whole consideration. Contractors should also note that free-issue materials supplied by the client can affect valuation, so contract drafting deserves attention before quoting.
Which daily-use grocery items became cheaper under GST from September 2025?
The 56th GST Council's rationalisation, effective 22 September 2025, moved a large basket of daily essentials from 12% or 18% down to 5%, including butter, ghee, cheese, namkeens, sauces, pasta, chocolates, biscuits, cornflakes, hair oil, shampoo, soaps and toothpaste. UHT milk, pre-packaged paneer and all Indian breads such as roti, chapati and paratha became nil rated. Aerated and caffeinated beverages, by contrast, went to the 40% demerit rate. Grocery and supermarket billing masters needed a near-complete refresh from that date, and old stock is simply sold at the new rate applicable on the date of supply.
What are the GST rates on gold, silver and diamond jewellery?
The special rates on precious metals were retained in the GST 2.0 restructuring. Gold, silver and articles of jewellery attract 3 percent GST, rough and unworked diamonds attract 0.25 percent, and jewellery making charges billed separately attract 5 percent. When a jeweller bills a customer, the metal value and making charges can appear as separate line items with their respective rates on the same tax invoice. Old gold purchased from an unregistered customer in exchange transactions does not attract GST in the customer's hands, but valuation of the net supply must be documented carefully.
Are any goods exempt from GST when transported by a GTA?
Yes. Transport by a GTA of agricultural produce, milk, salt and foodgrains including flours and pulses, organic manure, newspapers and magazines registered with the Registrar of Newspapers, relief materials for victims of calamities, and defence or military equipment is exempt regardless of freight value. Note that the older exemptions for small consignments, Rs.1,500 for a full truckload and Rs.750 for a single consignee, were withdrawn with effect from 18 July 2022, so ordinary cargo enjoys no value-based relief now. Transporters serving agricultural markets should describe the produce accurately on the consignment note to support the exemption.
What falls under the 18 percent standard rate of GST now?
The 18 percent slab is the standard rate for most services and for goods that are neither essentials nor demerit items. Notably, several products that earlier suffered 28 percent moved down to 18 percent from 22 September 2025: air conditioners, televisions of all sizes, dishwashers, cement, small cars and motorcycles up to 350cc, and most auto parts. Apparel and footwear priced above Rs.2,500 per piece also fall at 18 percent. Most professional, business support and repair services billed by professional firms continue at 18 percent with full input tax credit.
What is the process for GSTR-1 & GSTR-3B monthly filing?
The process runs in clear stages: Monthly data collection; GSTR-1 preparation and filing; ITC reconciliation with GSTR-2B; Tax computation and confirmation. A senior consultant reviews your file at each stage rather than passing it to a data-entry desk, and you receive a confirmation with the filed documents once it is complete. You always know which stage your work is at — we update you on WhatsApp instead of leaving you to follow up.
What documents are required for GSTR-1 & GSTR-3B monthly filing in Vepery?
For GSTR-1 & GSTR-3B monthly filing you will generally need: Sales invoices or sales register for the month, Purchase invoices or purchase register, Credit notes and debit notes issued during the month, GST portal login credentials, Bank statement for the period, if reconciliation is needed. The exact list depends on your constitution — proprietorship, partnership, LLP or company — and on the specifics of your case. Send what you have on WhatsApp to +91 - 9600 606 444 and we will confirm within the same working day exactly what else is needed, so nothing is rejected later for a missing paper.
