Trade Profile and GST Jurisdiction for Keelkattalai

Keelkattalai lies where Medavakkam Main Road meets the Pallavaram-Thoraipakkam 200 Feet Radial Road, its frontage carrying tile and sanitaryware showrooms, timber and hardware dealers, supermarkets and diagnostic labs that serve the apartment belt around Keelkattalai Lake. Dealers delivering materials to construction sites regularly trip on e-way bill requirements for consignments above Rs.50,000, and first-time registration for fast-growing retailers is routine work here. Years of working in and around Keelkattalai have shown us where GST trouble actually begins here — supplier defaults, classification doubts and deadlines lost in busy trading weeks. Our DRC-01/DRC-01A Demand Reply is built to close precisely those gaps, and the same team supports businesses in Madipakkam and Kovilambakkam, each with one point of contact and a compliance calendar maintained on their behalf.

GST jurisdiction for Keelkattalai (PIN 600117): businesses here generally fall under the CGST Chennai South Commissionerate. We regularly represent clients from Keelkattalai before this jurisdiction for registrations, clarifications and notice hearings, and can confirm your exact division and range from your GSTIN. State-jurisdiction cases are handled with the Tamil Nadu Commercial Taxes Department.
GST for Hardware and Electrical Dealers in Keelkattalai
A hardware and electrical counter stocks thousands of SKUs whose rates have moved: cement fell from 28 to 18 percent under the September 2025 rationalisation, while wires, switchgear, paints and sanitaryware sit at 18 percent. When a rate changes, Section 14 decides which rate applies based on the dates of supply, invoice and payment, so transition-period billing needs care. Dealer schemes and cash discounts from manufacturers arrive as credit notes that must be tracked against your input credit. A specialist maintains an item-wise HSN and rate master, applies Section 14 correctly during rate changes, and reconciles supplier credit notes so your GSTR-2B never overstates credit.
A GST-focused Chennai practice provides DRC-01/DRC-01A Demand Reply in Keelkattalai with senior review, reconciliation against portal data and written fee quotes from Rs.4,999, rather than template filings from anonymous online portals.
Why Us

Why Keelkattalai Businesses Choose ChennaiGST

Not a bulk-filing portal. A senior consultant knows your file, your jurisdiction and your deadlines.

Experience Across Trades and Sectors

Traders, manufacturers, contractors, e-commerce sellers, professionals and service exporters — we have handled GST for all of them. Whatever mix of goods and services your Keelkattalai business supplies, the rate, classification and place-of-supply questions have almost certainly crossed our desk before.

Cancelled GSTIN? We Handle Revocation Too

A registration cancelled for non-filing is not the end of the road. We bring the pending returns up to date, clear the dues and file the revocation application in REG-21 within the permitted window, restoring suspended and cancelled GSTINs to active status.

No Handing Off to Untrained Juniors

Your work is executed by trained GST staff working under direct senior supervision, not passed to interns learning on your file. The person preparing your return understands reverse charge, blocked credits and place of supply, because getting these wrong costs you money.

One Dedicated Point of Contact

You deal with one accountable person who knows your business, your turnover pattern and your filing history. No repeating your story to a new voice every month, and no file falling between two desks when a deadline is approaching.

Familiar with Chennai Jurisdictions and Officers' Expectations

We work with Chennai GST ranges and circles every week, including the jurisdiction covering Keelkattalai. We know how local proper officers examine registrations, what supporting documents they routinely call for, and how to present a file so it moves without repeated queries.

Job Work Movements Tracked Through ITC-04

Goods sent to job workers must move on delivery challans, return within the statutory period, and be reported in ITC-04. We track every outward and return leg for manufacturing clients in Keelkattalai, so inputs sent out for processing never quietly convert into a deemed supply carrying tax and interest.

How It Works

Our Demand Reply Process

Demand analysis

We examine whether the notice is under Section 73 or 74, check the limitation period, and break the demand into issues that can be defended separately.

Merits assessment

Each issue is tested against your records, GSTR-2B and case law, and we give you a candid view of what is defensible and what is genuinely payable.

DRC-06 reply drafting

A detailed statutory reply is drafted in Form DRC-06 with reconciliations, invoices and legal grounds, shared for your approval and filed on the portal in time.

Hearing and payment strategy

We represent you at the personal hearing. For any admitted liability we file DRC-03 promptly, using the concessional closure available under Section 73 where applicable.

Order and next steps

We track the adjudication outcome, review any order in DRC-07, and advise on rectification or appeal in APL-01 within three months if the demand is confirmed.

Outcomes

What You Get

Practical outcomes our clients measure us by.

Tax Paid Under the Right Head

Getting IGST versus CGST and SGST right at the invoice stage spares you the painful cycle of paying the correct head again and pursuing a refund of the amount paid under the wrong one.

Advances Treated Correctly

Advances received for services attract GST on receipt while advances for goods generally do not; applying this distinction correctly means you neither prepay tax unnecessarily nor omit a liability that surfaces later with interest.

Credit Notes That Actually Reduce Your Tax

Sales returns, discounts and price revisions are adjusted through properly reported credit notes within the statutory window, so you never keep paying tax on turnover you have already reversed.

Bank and Tender Readiness

Loan applications and government tenders routinely demand GST returns and registration documents. With everything filed and archived properly, you can produce a complete compliance file within hours instead of days.

Clarity on What You Actually Owe

Each period you receive a simple computation showing output tax, credit utilised and net cash payable, so GST becomes a number you understand and question rather than a figure you accept blindly.

Correct Tax the First Time

Rates, reverse charge, place of supply and blocked credits are applied correctly at the preparation stage, so you neither overpay tax you do not owe nor underpay and invite demands with penalty later.

Why a Specialist Matters

With ChennaiGST vs Doing It Yourself

AspectWith ChennaiGSTDIY / Unattended
Late fees and interestFilings go in ahead of statutory dates, so the Rs.50-per-day late fee and 18 percent interest never arise.Late fees accumulate silently every delayed day, and interest on unpaid tax runs at 18 percent per annum.
Refund claimsRFD-01 filed with complete statements and annexures, tracked from ARN to bank credit, with any deficiency memo answered promptly.Incomplete claims bounce back as deficiency memos while the refund sits unclaimed for months and working capital stays blocked.
Risk of noticesGSTR-1, GSTR-3B and GSTR-2B reconciled before filing, removing the mismatches that trigger most scrutiny notices.Inconsistent figures across returns quietly build a mismatch history that surfaces later as ASMT-10 scrutiny or a demand notice.
Input tax creditPurchase register matched against GSTR-2B each period, with defaulting suppliers chased so eligible credit is actually captured.Credit claimed from books alone; mismatches with GSTR-2B mean lost credit or excess claims that invite departmental queries.
Due-date trackingA maintained compliance calendar with internal cut-offs days before the 11th and the 20th; we chase you for data, not the other way around.Deadlines remembered from memory or phone alarms; one busy week and the return slips past the due date.
Annual return preparationMonthly reconciliations roll naturally into GSTR-9, filed comfortably before 31 December with figures already agreed through the year.Twelve months of unmatched data reconstructed in December, with differences discovered too late to be corrected cleanly.

GST Developments Worth Knowing — relevant to Keelkattalai businesses

A working knowledge of recent instruments and judgments is what separates a defensible filing from a risky one.

Circular

Goods rate and classification clarifications after the 47th Council

Circular No. 179/11/2022-GST · 2022-08-03

The Board settled several goods classification disputes following the 47th GST Council meeting. It confirmed that electrically operated vehicles attract the five per cent rate whether or not they are fitted with a battery pack at the time of supply, and that treated sewage water is exempt because the exclusion for purified water does not extend to it. Rates on fly ash bricks and blocks and on certain by-products of milling of pulses were also clarified.

What to do about it: Chennai dealers in electric vehicles and construction materials should check their invoicing against this circular, since past classification errors are a common audit finding.

AAR Ruling

Carbonated fruit drinks classified as carbonated beverages, not fruit juice drinks

Rich Dairy Products (India) Pvt Ltd - AAR Tamil Nadu (2019), upheld by AAAR Tamil Nadu, Order No. TN/AAAR/01/2020 · 2019

The Namakkal manufacturer made carbonated beverages containing fruit juice and sought classification under the fruit pulp or fruit juice based drinks entry taxed at 12 percent. The Authority held that once carbon dioxide is added the product is classifiable under heading 2202 10 as waters containing added carbon dioxide and flavouring, and not as fruit juice under heading 2009, so the higher rate applicable to that entry along with compensation cess applies. The Appellate Authority upheld that view.

How we apply it: Chennai beverage makers must check whether the drink is carbonated before applying the 12 percent fruit drink rate.

Portal Advisory

Amnesty forms SPL-01 and SPL-02 enabled for interest and penalty waiver

GSTN Advisory, January 2025 — filing of waiver applications under Section 128A · 2025-01

GSTN enabled Forms SPL-01 and SPL-02 on the portal from the first week of January 2025 for the Section 128A waiver scheme, under which taxpayers with Section 73 demands for FY 2017-18 to 2019-20 could get interest and penalty waived by paying the tax in full by 31 March 2025. Advisories explained eligibility, the need to withdraw pending appeals first, and the application deadline of 30 June 2025, with a further June 2025 advisory addressing technical glitches faced while submitting applications.

What to do about it: If you settled 2017-20 demands under the amnesty, preserve the SPL filings and payment proofs; if you missed it, factor full interest into dispute strategy.

No payment, no account. If the notice does not state a date we can read, it says so rather than guessing one for you.

FAQs

Frequently Asked Questions

Straight answers from practising GST consultants — based on the CGST Act, current CBIC notifications and day-to-day portal experience.

How long does DRC-01/DRC-01A demand reply take in Keelkattalai?
Draft reply in 5-7 working days. That assumes your documents are complete and there is no departmental query. We start the same day we receive your papers and tell you the realistic completion date upfront rather than an optimistic one. Where the GST portal or the officer causes delay — clarifications, physical verification or system issues — we track it daily and keep you informed on WhatsApp.
Is there a GST consultant near Keelkattalai for drc 01 notice reply?
Yes. We serve Keelkattalai and the surrounding areas from our office at Porur, Chennai - 600 116, Tamil Nadu, and most demand reply work is completed online — you send documents on WhatsApp and we handle the portal work. If you prefer in-person help, we offer doorstep document pickup across Keelkattalai and you are welcome to visit our office. Reach us on +91 - 9600 606 444 between 9 AM and 8 PM, Monday to Saturday.
I received a DRC-01 notice for ITC mismatch between GSTR-3B and GSTR-2A. How do I defend it?
Start with a supplier-wise reconciliation identifying why each credit is missing from GSTR-2A, such as the supplier filing late, quoting a wrong GSTIN or reporting B2B supplies as B2C. For FY 2017-18 and 2018-19, CBIC Circular 183/15/2022 permits proving genuine credits through supplier certificates or CA certificates, which resolves many Keelkattalai cases. Attach tax invoices, payment proofs and ledger extracts to your DRC-06 reply to establish that the conditions of Section 16 were met. Where a supplier has genuinely defaulted, quantify and pay only that portion through DRC-03 rather than conceding the entire demand.
How much time does the GST department have to issue a demand under Section 73?
For a Section 73 demand, the adjudication order must be passed within three years from the due date of the annual return for the financial year concerned, and the show cause notice must be issued at least three months before that deadline. For Section 74 fraud cases, the order deadline is five years with the notice issued at least six months earlier. For tax periods from FY 2024-25 onwards, a new common provision in Section 74A applies with its own timelines. Always check limitation first; notices issued beyond these dates can be challenged as time-barred, which ChennaiGST examines in every Keelkattalai demand case.
Can the penalty in a Section 74 fraud case be reduced by paying early?
Yes, Section 74 has a built-in incentive to settle early. If you pay the tax and interest before the show cause notice is issued, the penalty is 15 percent of the tax. If you pay within thirty days of the notice, penalty is 25 percent and the proceedings conclude. Even after the order, paying within thirty days limits penalty to 50 percent instead of 100 percent. Payments are made in DRC-03 with the correct cause selected. Whether to settle or contest depends on the strength of the fraud allegation, so have the notice evaluated professionally before choosing; call +91 - 9600 606 444 for an assessment.
I received Form DRC-07 after an adjudication order. What happens next?
DRC-07 is the summary of the demand created on the portal after the officer passes an order, and it makes the amount recoverable. You now have two lawful paths. Either pay the demand, or file an appeal in Form APL-01 within three months of the order with a pre-deposit of 10 percent of the disputed tax, which stays recovery of the balance. If you do nothing, recovery action, including bank account attachment, can begin three months after the order, and even earlier in exceptional cases. Do not let the appeal window lapse; call +91 - 9600 606 444 for an urgent review of the order.
What is the difference between DRC-01A and DRC-01 in GST?
DRC-01A is a pre-show-cause intimation. In Part A the officer communicates the tax, interest and penalty he has ascertained and gives you a chance to pay or explain before formal proceedings begin; you can respond through Part B of the same form. DRC-01, by contrast, is the summary of a formal show cause notice under Section 73 or Section 74, which starts adjudication and must be answered in Form DRC-06. Handling the DRC-01A stage well can close a matter quietly, whereas a DRC-01 requires a full legal defence. Send us the document on +91 - 9600 606 444 and we will tell you which stage you are at.
How do I reply to a DRC-01 show cause notice online?
The reply to a show cause notice summarised in DRC-01 is filed in Form DRC-06 on the GST portal. Log in, open View Additional Notices and Orders, select the case and use the reply option to upload your written submissions and supporting documents, and opt for a personal hearing. A good DRC-06 addresses each allegation separately, annexes reconciliations, invoices and ledgers, cites the relevant provisions and circulars, and raises limitation and jurisdiction objections where available. File within the time allowed in the notice. ChennaiGST drafts DRC-06 replies for Keelkattalai businesses with a hearing strategy built in from the start.
An ASMT-13 best judgment order was passed against me. Can it still be nullified by filing the return?
Yes, Section 62 contains a self-correcting mechanism. If you furnish the valid return within sixty days of service of the ASMT-13 assessment order, the order is deemed withdrawn automatically, though late fee and interest remain payable. The Finance Act 2023 added a further cushion effective 1 October 2023: even after the sixty days, you can file the return within an additional sixty days by paying an extra late fee of Rs.100 per day under the CGST Act, with a matching state levy, for each day beyond the first window, and the order still stands withdrawn. Beyond the full one hundred and twenty days, the estimated demand becomes enforceable, leaving appeal as the remedy.
What happens if I ignore a GSTR-3A notice from the GST department?
If the return is not filed within fifteen days, the officer can complete a best judgment assessment under Section 62 and pass an order in Form ASMT-13, estimating your liability from GSTR-1 data, e-way bills and bank information. Such estimates are usually far higher than the actual dues. The assessment is deemed withdrawn if you file the valid return within sixty days of the order, on payment of late fee and interest. Beyond that, the demand becomes recoverable. Several traders in Keelkattalai have faced bank account attachment for ignored GSTR-3A notices, so act within the fifteen-day window.
Who can help me reply to a GST scrutiny notice near me?
Look for a practitioner who handles scrutiny replies regularly, not just return filing, because an ASMT-11 stands or falls on the quality of its reconciliations. ChennaiGST assists businesses in Keelkattalai and across Chennai with the complete cycle: reading the ASMT-10, extracting the portal data, matching GSTR-1, GSTR-3B, GSTR-2B and books, drafting the reply, paying any admitted amount in DRC-03 and following up until the ASMT-12 closure order. Fees start at Rs.4,999 depending on the number of discrepancy points. Share the notice on +91 - 9600 606 444 and we will confirm the scope and timeline the same day.
Which educational services are actually exempt from GST?
The exemption is confined to an educational institution as defined, meaning one providing pre-school education, education up to higher secondary school or equivalent, education as part of a curriculum for obtaining a qualification recognised by Indian law, or an approved vocational education course. Services by such institutions to their students, and specified input services to schools such as transport, catering and security, are exempt. Everything outside this boundary is taxable: private tuition, test preparation, hobby classes, skill courses without recognised certification, and training by ed-tech companies. The recognition of the qualification under Indian law is the decisive test, not the subject taught.
Which purchases commonly attract GST under reverse charge for a regular business?
Under Section 9(3), the recipient pays tax on notified supplies. The entries a typical business in Keelkattalai encounters are: goods transport agency services, services of advocates and arbitral tribunals, sponsorship provided to companies and partnership firms, services of directors, security services from non-corporate providers, renting of passenger motor vehicles from non-corporate operators charging five percent, import of services, and renting of property from unregistered landlords in notified cases. Each month, scan your expense ledger for these heads, pay the tax in cash through GSTR-3B, and claim it back as ITC where eligible. Missed RCM is among the top audit findings; call +91 - 9600 606 444 for an RCM exposure review.
Why is there GST on an under-construction flat but not on a ready-to-move one?
Construction of an apartment intended for sale is a supply of service only when any part of the consideration is received before the completion certificate is issued or before first occupation. Such under-construction sales attract 1 percent for affordable residential apartments and 5 percent for other residential apartments, both without input tax credit to the builder. Once the completion certificate is issued, sale of the building is neither a supply of goods nor of services under Schedule III, so a ready-to-move flat carries no GST at all, only stamp duty and registration charges. Timing of booking therefore changes the buyer's cost materially.
We pay for foreign software subscriptions and overseas consultants. Is GST payable in India?
Yes. Import of services, meaning services from a supplier located outside India received by a person in India for business, attracts IGST under reverse charge in the recipient's hands, payable in cash and claimable as ITC if eligible. This catches cloud software, foreign professional fees, overseas advertising and licence fees. Two nuances matter: services from a related foreign party, such as your parent company, are taxable even without consideration under Schedule I, and OIDAR services supplied to unregistered consumers are taxed in the foreign supplier's own hands, not under RCM. Startups and IT firms in Keelkattalai paying by card frequently miss these entries; reconcile foreign remittances against RCM paid annually.
Do I have to issue an invoice for every small cash sale in my shop?
Not necessarily. Where the value of a supply is less than Rs.200, the buyer is unregistered, and the buyer does not ask for an invoice, you may skip issuing an individual tax invoice. Instead, you must prepare one consolidated tax invoice at the close of each day covering all such small sales. The moment a customer demands an invoice, or the sale is Rs.200 or more, a proper invoice is required. Retail counters typically issue system receipts to every customer anyway, which is cleaner practice, but the daily consolidated invoice is the legal minimum for petty sales.
Can I transfer cash ledger balance from one GSTIN to another GSTIN of the same PAN?
Yes, within limits. Under Section 49(10), unutilised IGST and CGST balances in the electronic cash ledger can be transferred through PMT-09 to the cash ledger of a distinct person, that is, another GSTIN registered on the same PAN in the same or another state. SGST balances cannot be moved across states in this manner. The transfer is not permitted if the transferring GSTIN has any unpaid liability standing in its electronic liability register. Multi-state businesses headquartered in Keelkattalai use this to shift idle deposits to the branch that actually needs the cash, avoiding fresh working capital outflow.
Are any goods exempt from GST when transported by a GTA?
Yes. Transport by a GTA of agricultural produce, milk, salt and foodgrains including flours and pulses, organic manure, newspapers and magazines registered with the Registrar of Newspapers, relief materials for victims of calamities, and defence or military equipment is exempt regardless of freight value. Note that the older exemptions for small consignments, Rs.1,500 for a full truckload and Rs.750 for a single consignee, were withdrawn with effect from 18 July 2022, so ordinary cargo enjoys no value-based relief now. Transporters serving agricultural markets should describe the produce accurately on the consignment note to support the exemption.
What documents are required for DRC-01/DRC-01A demand reply in Keelkattalai?
For DRC-01/DRC-01A demand reply you will generally need: Copy of DRC-01 or DRC-01A with annexures, GST portal login credentials, GSTR-1, GSTR-3B and GSTR-9 copies for the disputed periods, GSTR-2A and GSTR-2B data for the disputed periods, Purchase invoices and supplier ledger for ITC disputes. The exact list depends on your constitution — proprietorship, partnership, LLP or company — and on the specifics of your case. Send what you have on WhatsApp to +91 - 9600 606 444 and we will confirm within the same working day exactly what else is needed, so nothing is rejected later for a missing paper.
Can I get DRC-01/DRC-01A demand reply done online without visiting the office?
Yes, the entire process can be handled online. You share scanned documents on WhatsApp or email, we prepare and file everything on the GST portal, and you receive the acknowledgement and filed copies digitally. Businesses in Keelkattalai regularly complete demand reply with us without a single office visit. If a physical verification or personal hearing is required by the department, we guide you through it.
How much does DRC-01/DRC-01A demand reply cost in Keelkattalai?
Our fee for DRC-01/DRC-01A demand reply in Keelkattalai starts at Rs.4,999 and is quoted in full before we begin — there are no hidden charges added later. The fee covers professional work end to end: document review, preparation, filing and follow-up until completion.
