Trade Profile and GST Jurisdiction for Parthasarathy Koil Street, Ekkattuthangal

Finding dependable GSTR-1 & GSTR-3B Monthly Filing in Ekkattuthangal usually means choosing between a distant online portal and an overloaded local accountant. Ekkattuthangal, beside the Kathipara interchange, blends the SIDCO Industrial Estate's south phase with IT towers such as Olympia Technology Park and a strip of printing, packaging and engineering units off the Inner Ring Road. Units sending components out for plating or machining must move them on delivery challans and report the flows in ITC-04, a step many discover only when a departmental audit asks for job-work records. We offer a third option: a professional Chennai GST practice that treats Ekkattuthangal, Guindy and Jafferkhanpet as home ground, responds the same working day, files ahead of deadlines, and stands behind its work if a notice ever arrives on a return we prepared.

GST jurisdiction for Ekkattuthangal (PIN 600032): businesses here generally fall under the CGST Chennai South Commissionerate. We regularly represent clients from Ekkattuthangal before this jurisdiction for registrations, clarifications and notice hearings, and can confirm your exact division and range from your GSTIN. State-jurisdiction cases are handled with the Tamil Nadu Commercial Taxes Department.
GST for Printing and Packaging Units in Ekkattuthangal
Printing turns on who supplies the content: when the customer provides the matter and you supply paper and ink, the transaction is a printing service, but printing on customer-supplied paper is job work with its own rates. The output rates diverge sharply too, with printed books nil-rated, brochures and leaflets at 5 percent, and cartons and corrugated boxes reduced to 5 percent from 22 September 2025. Misclassifying between goods chapters and service codes is the commonest audit finding in this trade. A specialist settles the goods-versus-service call for each product line, applies the right HSN or SAC, and documents job work flows with proper challans.
Yes, GSTR-1 & GSTR-3B Monthly Filing in Ekkattuthangal can be completed fully online — no office visit is required at any stage, since e-signatures, OTP verification and digital document exchange cover the entire formality, with fees from Rs.749.
Why Us

Why Parthasarathy Koil Street, Ekkattuthangal Businesses Choose ChennaiGST

Not a bulk-filing portal. A senior consultant knows your file, your jurisdiction and your deadlines.

Waiver and Amnesty Windows Applied for You

Whenever the GST Council notifies a late-fee waiver or an amnesty window for pending returns or old demands, we check every client's history against it and act within the deadline. Relief that businesses in Ekkattuthangal would otherwise read about after it lapsed reaches our clients in time.

Refund and Export Experience That Shows

From filing the LUT in RFD-11 at the start of each financial year to preparing RFD-01 refund claims with complete annexures, we know what makes a refund file move. Exporters and inverted-duty businesses come to us specifically for this.

Advisory, Not Just Data Entry

We tell you when the composition scheme stops making sense, when QRMP suits your cash flow, and when a supplier's non-compliance is quietly costing you credit. Filing is the minimum; helping you make better GST decisions is the actual job.

Familiar with Chennai Jurisdictions and Officers' Expectations

We work with Chennai GST ranges and circles every week, including the jurisdiction covering Ekkattuthangal. We know how local proper officers examine registrations, what supporting documents they routinely call for, and how to present a file so it moves without repeated queries.

GSTR-9 and GSTR-9C Handled In-House

The annual return and, where turnover crosses Rs.5 crore, the self-certified reconciliation statement in GSTR-9C are prepared by the same team that filed your monthly returns. Nothing about your year has to be rediscovered or explained to a stranger in December.

No Handing Off to Untrained Juniors

Your work is executed by trained GST staff working under direct senior supervision, not passed to interns learning on your file. The person preparing your return understands reverse charge, blocked credits and place of supply, because getting these wrong costs you money.

How It Works

Our Monthly Returns Process

Monthly data collection

At month end we remind you and collect sales invoices, purchase bills and credit notes in whatever format you maintain, including Excel, Tally exports or scanned copies.

GSTR-1 preparation and filing

We prepare invoice-wise outward supply details, validate GSTINs of your B2B customers, summarise B2C supplies and file GSTR-1 on the portal before the 11th.

ITC reconciliation with GSTR-2B

We download your auto-drafted GSTR-2B, match it against purchase records, and claim only eligible input tax credit so that mismatches do not trigger scrutiny notices later.

Tax computation and confirmation

We compute net tax payable after ITC set-off, share the working with you for approval, and generate the payment challan for any cash liability.

GSTR-3B filing and reporting

After your confirmation and tax payment, we file GSTR-3B before the 20th and send you both filed acknowledgements along with a one-page summary of the month.

Outcomes

What You Get

Practical outcomes our clients measure us by.

No Money Idling in the Cash Ledger

Excess balances parked in the electronic cash ledger are identified during regular ledger reviews and either utilised against upcoming liability or claimed back as a refund, instead of sitting interest-free with the government.

Due-Diligence Ready for Investors and Buyers

Funding rounds, partnerships and business sales all begin with a compliance check. A clean, documented GST history lets you clear that scrutiny quickly instead of watching a deal stall over old filing gaps.

No Interest Outflows at 18 Percent

Interest on delayed GST payment runs at 18 percent per annum, which is costlier than most working capital finance. Timely computation and payment through our calendar keeps that meter permanently at zero.

Export Benefits Fully Utilised

With the LUT filed at the start of each financial year and refund claims tracked to credit, exporters supply without blocking funds in IGST and recover accumulated credit on schedule.

Advances Treated Correctly

Advances received for services attract GST on receipt while advances for goods generally do not; applying this distinction correctly means you neither prepay tax unnecessarily nor omit a liability that surfaces later with interest.

Growth Without Compliance Anxiety

New branches, new product lines and interstate sales all carry GST consequences. With standing professional support, you expand knowing registrations, invoicing and returns will keep pace with the business.

Why a Specialist Matters

With ChennaiGST vs Doing It Yourself

AspectWith ChennaiGSTDIY / Unattended
Goods in transitE-way bills generated correctly and matched to invoices, so consignments pass roadside inspections without detention or penalty.A defective or missing e-way bill can mean detention at a checkpoint, with penalties that dwarf the tax on the consignment.
Supplier defaultsSuppliers who stop uploading invoices are identified within the period and pursued before their default becomes your blocked credit.Missing supplier invoices surface only when credit is denied, by which time recovering the amount from the vendor is difficult.
Time costRoughly an hour a month to send data and approve drafts; the portal work, reconciliation and follow-up are ours.Hours every month lost to portal errors, JSON files, OTP failures and reworking figures — usually on the due date itself.
Keeping up with changesRate changes, portal updates and new thresholds such as the Rs.5 crore e-invoice limit are tracked by us and applied to your case proactively.Changes are discovered after the fact — often through a rejected filing, a blocked e-way bill or a departmental letter.
Refund claimsRFD-01 filed with complete statements and annexures, tracked from ARN to bank credit, with any deficiency memo answered promptly.Incomplete claims bounce back as deficiency memos while the refund sits unclaimed for months and working capital stays blocked.
Record keepingEvery return, challan, acknowledgement and working paper archived in an organised folder, retrievable in minutes years later.Documents scattered across email, downloads and old phones; assembling records for a bank or an audit takes days.

GST Council

Sahaj and Sugam quarterly returns approved for taxpayers below Rs 5 crore

28th GST Council Meeting, New Delhi — 21 July 2018 (PIB Release ID 1539570) · 2018-07-21

Finalising the formats behind the principles approved in May, the Council approved optional quarterly return filing with monthly payment of tax for small taxpayers with turnover below Rs 5 crore, noting that 93 per cent of taxpayers fall below that figure. Two simplified formats were designed: Sahaj for small traders making only B2C supplies and Sugam for those making both B2B and B2C supplies. Both required less information than the regular return.

Why this matters: Sahaj and Sugam were never implemented as designed, but the Rs 5 crore turnover line and the quarterly-return-with-monthly-payment model survive in today's QRMP scheme.

AAR Ruling

Printing leaflets on the printer's own paper attracts 18 percent

Coronation Arts Crafts - AAR Tamil Nadu, Advance Ruling No. 19/ARA/2022, dated 31 May 2022 · 2022-05-31

A printing house printed leaflets and similar material using content supplied by the customer but paper, ink and other physical inputs of its own. It asked for the correct classification and rate. The Authority held that this is a composite supply in which the printing service is the principal supply, and the supply is therefore taxable at 18 percent. The customer supplying only the content or artwork did not alter the classification.

How we apply it: A Chennai printer supplying its own paper should charge 18 percent on job printed leaflets instead of assuming a lower book rate.

Case Law

A provisional attachment automatically lapses after one year and cannot be continued

M/s. Prime Gold International Ltd v. Additional Director General — Madras High Court, W.P. No. 8203 of 2022, decided 2 August 2023 (C. Saravanan J.) · 2023-08-02

The petitioner challenged a provisional attachment of its bank account. By the time the matter was heard, one year had elapsed from the date of the order. The Court observed that orders of attachment under Section 83 are self-limiting and remain in force for one year only, after which nothing survives for adjudication. The writ petition was accordingly closed, the attachment having ceased to operate by force of the statute itself.

What to do about it: A Chennai business should diarise the date of any Section 83 attachment — after twelve months the bank must release the account, and a fresh order is required if the department wants to continue.

FAQs

Frequently Asked Questions

Straight answers from practising GST consultants — based on the CGST Act, current CBIC notifications and day-to-day portal experience.

Which GST office handles Ekkattuthangal businesses?
Businesses in Ekkattuthangal (PIN 600032) generally fall under the CGST Chennai South Commissionerate, with state-jurisdiction cases handled by the Tamil Nadu Commercial Taxes Department. Your exact division and range can be confirmed from your GSTIN on the GST portal. We regularly appear before this jurisdiction for registrations, clarifications and hearings, so we know the local practice and documentation preferences.
What documents are required for GSTR-1 & GSTR-3B monthly filing in Ekkattuthangal?
For GSTR-1 & GSTR-3B monthly filing you will generally need: Sales invoices or sales register for the month, Purchase invoices or purchase register, Credit notes and debit notes issued during the month, GST portal login credentials, Bank statement for the period, if reconciliation is needed. The exact list depends on your constitution — proprietorship, partnership, LLP or company — and on the specifics of your case. Send what you have on WhatsApp to +91 - 9600 606 444 and we will confirm within the same working day exactly what else is needed, so nothing is rejected later for a missing paper.
What is a B2C large invoice and what is the current threshold?
A B2C large invoice is an inter-state supply to an unregistered person exceeding the notified value threshold, which was reduced from Rs.2.5 lakh to Rs.1 lakh. Such invoices must be reported individually in Table 5 of GSTR-1 with the place of supply, instead of being merged into the consolidated B2C summary. The rule helps states track high-value consumer sales flowing across borders. If your Ekkattuthangal showroom occasionally bills an unregistered customer from another state above Rs.1 lakh, your billing and returns process must flag it for invoice-wise reporting, or GSTR-1 validations and later scrutiny will surface the gap.
What is the difference between GSTR-1 and GSTR-3B?
GSTR-1 is a detailed invoice-wise statement of your sales, filed by the 11th of the next month. It does not involve any tax payment but it feeds your customers' GSTR-2B for input tax credit. GSTR-3B is a self-declared summary return, due on the 20th, where you report total sales, claim input tax credit and pay the net tax in cash or through credit. Both must match; mismatches between GSTR-1 and GSTR-3B are a common trigger for notices from the department, which is why we reconcile them before every filing.
Do I have to pay GST on my Adobe, Canva or AWS subscriptions billed from abroad?
If you are GST-registered and the foreign supplier has not charged Indian GST, yes. Services received from a supplier located outside India for business purposes are an import of services, taxable in your hands under reverse charge at 18 percent. You must pay the tax in cash through GSTR-3B, raise a self-invoice, and can simultaneously claim the same amount as input tax credit if the expense is otherwise eligible, making it cash-flow neutral for most businesses. Unregistered persons do not pay reverse charge; instead, the foreign provider may charge GST under the OIDAR rules. Many Ekkattuthangal agencies miss these entries during scrutiny.
My landlord in Ekkattuthangal has no GSTIN but my business is registered. Who pays GST on the shop rent?
You do. With effect from 10 October 2024, renting of immovable property other than a residential dwelling by an unregistered person to a registered person was brought under reverse charge through Notification 09/2024-Central Tax (Rate). So a registered trader renting a shop from an unregistered landlord must pay 18 percent under RCM through GSTR-3B and can claim it back as input tax credit if eligible. Composition taxpayers have since been kept outside this entry, given they cannot claim credit. Many small businesses in Ekkattuthangal are still unaware of this 2024 change, and scrutiny notices on rent entries have already begun appearing. Call +91 - 9600 606 444 to regularise past months.
We hire security guards from an agency. Should they charge GST or should we pay it ourselves?
Check the agency's constitution. Since 1 January 2019, security services by way of supply of security personnel provided by any person other than a body corporate to a registered person fall under reverse charge, so your business pays the 18 percent directly and claims credit. If the agency is a body corporate, such as a private limited company, it charges GST under forward charge on its invoice. Recipients registered under the composition scheme are excluded from this reverse charge entry. Businesses in Ekkattuthangal commonly pay agencies' forward-charge invoices while also missing their own RCM cases, so an annual review of security and manpower bills is worthwhile.
Can my company claim ITC on GST paid to a contractor building our new office?
Generally no. Section 17(5) blocks input tax credit on works contract services and on goods or services used for construction of immovable property on your own account, even when the building is used for business. The exception is plant and machinery, so credit on GST paid for installing machinery, equipment or apparatus fixed to earth remains available. The block does not apply within the construction chain itself: a sub-contractor's works contract service supplied to the main contractor is creditable for the main contractor, since it is used for an onward works contract supply. Classifying civil costs correctly during a project saves disputes at audit.
We are constructing our own office building in Ekkattuthangal. Can we claim ITC on the materials and contractor bills?
No. Section 17(5)(c) and (d) block credit on works contract services and on goods or services used for construction of immovable property on your own account, even when the building is used for business. The exception is plant and machinery, which covers apparatus and equipment fixed to earth by foundation or structural support, but expressly excludes land, buildings, telecom towers and pipelines laid outside the factory. Note that the Finance Act 2025 retrospectively substituted the phrase plant or machinery with plant and machinery from 1 July 2017, neutralising the wider reading taken in the Safari Retreats ruling. Structure your capitalisation records to separate plant from civil work.
Is a monthly ITC reconciliation service worth it for a small business near me in Ekkattuthangal?
For most businesses claiming more than a lakh of ITC a month, yes. A monthly reconciliation matches every purchase invoice in your books against GSTR-2B, flags suppliers who have not filed, identifies blocked credits under Section 17(5), tracks the 180-day payment rule and produces a vendor follow-up list before the GSTR-3B due date of the 20th. The cost is typically far below the value of a single missed or disputed credit. ChennaiGST offers monthly reconciliation for businesses in Ekkattuthangal starting at Rs.749, including vendor reminder emails. Call +91 - 9600 606 444 for a sample reconciliation of your latest month.
I paid my supplier only part of the invoice within 180 days. How much ITC do I reverse?
The reversal is proportionate. If you paid sixty percent of the invoice value including tax within 180 days, you reverse only the ITC attributable to the unpaid forty percent, reporting it in Table 4(B)(2) of the GSTR-3B for the tax period immediately following the expiry of the 180 days. Amounts settled through book adjustments, such as netting off mutual dues or debit notes for quality deductions reducing the payable, have been accepted as payment in advance rulings, so a properly documented ledger adjustment protects the credit. Retention money held under contract terms is the most common trigger we see in Ekkattuthangal construction and job-work businesses.
My shop's landlord in Ekkattuthangal is not GST registered. Do I pay GST on the rent myself?
Yes, if you are registered. With effect from 10 October 2024, renting of any immovable property other than a residential dwelling by an unregistered person to a registered person was notified under reverse charge, so a registered tenant must pay 18 percent on the rent in cash through GSTR-3B and can claim ITC subject to the usual conditions. Composition taxpayers were subsequently excluded from this entry with effect from 16 January 2025. You must also raise a monthly self-invoice since the landlord is unregistered. Many shop and godown tenants in Ekkattuthangal remain unaware of this recent entry; call +91 - 9600 606 444 to regularise past months.
What are OIDAR services under GST and who pays the tax on them?
OIDAR means Online Information Database Access or Retrieval services, delivered over the internet, such as cloud services, e-books, streaming, online advertising and automated e-learning. When a foreign OIDAR provider supplies these to unregistered persons in India, the foreign provider itself must take a simplified registration in Form REG-10 and file monthly return GSTR-5A. From 1 October 2023, the definition was widened, so almost every unregistered Indian recipient is covered. When the Indian recipient is GST-registered, the tax instead falls on the recipient under reverse charge as an import of services.
Why is my e-way bill generation blocked on the portal?
Under Rule 138E, the e-way bill facility is blocked when a taxpayer has not filed GSTR-3B (or CMP-08 for composition dealers) for two or more consecutive tax periods. Since an e-way bill is mandatory for moving goods worth more than Rs.50,000, blocking effectively halts dispatches. The remedy is straightforward: file the pending returns with late fee and interest, after which the facility unblocks automatically, usually the next day. Transporters and suppliers can also be affected when a counterparty GSTIN is blocked. We clear return backlogs for businesses in Ekkattuthangal on priority; call +91 - 9600 606 444.
What is self-invoicing under RCM and is there a time limit for it?
When you receive supplies liable to reverse charge from an unregistered supplier, Section 31(3)(f) requires you, the recipient, to issue an invoice on yourself, because the supplier cannot issue a tax invoice. You must also issue a payment voucher when paying the supplier. From 1 November 2024, Rule 47A prescribes a firm deadline: the self-invoice must be issued within thirty days of receiving the supply. This document is not a formality; the time limit for claiming the RCM credit is reckoned from the self-invoice, and its absence can cost you the credit besides inviting penalty. Maintain a monthly self-invoice series covering rent, freight, legal fees and similar unregistered-supplier heads.
What are the GST rates on gold, silver and diamond jewellery?
The special rates on precious metals were retained in the GST 2.0 restructuring. Gold, silver and articles of jewellery attract 3 percent GST, rough and unworked diamonds attract 0.25 percent, and jewellery making charges billed separately attract 5 percent. When a jeweller bills a customer, the metal value and making charges can appear as separate line items with their respective rates on the same tax invoice. Old gold purchased from an unregistered customer in exchange transactions does not attract GST in the customer's hands, but valuation of the net supply must be documented carefully.
Are any goods exempt from GST when transported by a GTA?
Yes. Transport by a GTA of agricultural produce, milk, salt and foodgrains including flours and pulses, organic manure, newspapers and magazines registered with the Registrar of Newspapers, relief materials for victims of calamities, and defence or military equipment is exempt regardless of freight value. Note that the older exemptions for small consignments, Rs.1,500 for a full truckload and Rs.750 for a single consignee, were withdrawn with effect from 18 July 2022, so ordinary cargo enjoys no value-based relief now. Transporters serving agricultural markets should describe the produce accurately on the consignment note to support the exemption.
How is GST charged on hotel room tariffs after the rate changes?
Hotel accommodation with a value of supply up to Rs.7,500 per unit per day attracts 5 percent GST without input tax credit, a reduction from the earlier 12 percent. Rooms priced above Rs.7,500 per day attract 18 percent with full input tax credit. The rate is determined by the actual transaction value charged for the room, so seasonal discounts can change the applicable rate on the same room across bookings. Lodges and hotels around Ekkattuthangal should configure billing software to test the per-day value on each invoice rather than fixing one rate for the property.
Is there a GST consultant near Ekkattuthangal for gst return filing?
Yes. We serve Ekkattuthangal and the surrounding areas from our office at Porur, Chennai - 600 116, Tamil Nadu, and most monthly returns work is completed online — you send documents on WhatsApp and we handle the portal work. Reach us on +91 - 9600 606 444 between 9 AM and 8 PM, Monday to Saturday.
What is the process for GSTR-1 & GSTR-3B monthly filing?
The process runs in clear stages: Monthly data collection; GSTR-1 preparation and filing; ITC reconciliation with GSTR-2B; Tax computation and confirmation. A senior consultant reviews your file at each stage rather than passing it to a data-entry desk, and you receive a confirmation with the filed documents once it is complete. You always know which stage your work is at — we update you on WhatsApp instead of leaving you to follow up.
Can I get GSTR-1 & GSTR-3B monthly filing done online without visiting the office?
Yes, the entire process can be handled online.
