Trade Profile and GST Jurisdiction for Alandur

GST does not distinguish between a large showroom and a small service unit — the due dates and matching systems apply equally to both. Alandur, at the Kathipara junction of GST Road and Inner Ring Road with a metro interchange, is a base for transporters, warehouses and traders serving the airport belt. Consignors must issue e-way bills for goods movements above Rs.50,000, and businesses hiring lorries routinely miss reverse charge liability on GTA freight until an audit or ASMT-10 notice surfaces it. That is why our Departmental Audit Support engagements in Alandur follow the same discipline whatever the client's size: written checklists, reconciliation before filing and every acknowledgement archived. Businesses from Guindy and St. Thomas Mount run on the same process, entirely over WhatsApp if they prefer.

GST jurisdiction for Alandur (PIN 600016): businesses here generally fall under the CGST Chennai South Commissionerate. We regularly represent clients from Alandur before this jurisdiction for registrations, clarifications and notice hearings, and can confirm your exact division and range from your GSTIN. State-jurisdiction cases are handled with the Tamil Nadu Commercial Taxes Department.
GST Support for Wholesale Traders in Alandur
Wholesale trade runs on thin margins and heavy invoice volumes, so small GST errors multiply quickly. Once taxable supplies cross Rs.50 lakh in a month, Rule 86B requires at least one percent of output tax to be paid in cash regardless of credit balance, and quantity or turnover discounts must be passed through credit notes that satisfy Section 15(3)(b) to legally reduce taxable value. A specialist keeps your invoice-wise B2B reporting clean so retailer customers receive credit without friction, watches the Rs.5 crore e-invoicing threshold as volumes grow, and documents discount schemes in agreements the department will accept. Wholesalers in Alandur can call +91 - 9600 606 444 for a margin-safe compliance review.
A GST-focused Chennai practice provides Departmental Audit Support in Alandur with senior review, reconciliation against portal data and written fee quotes from Rs.9,999, rather than template filings from anonymous online portals.
Why Us

Why Alandur Businesses Choose ChennaiGST

Not a bulk-filing portal. A senior consultant knows your file, your jurisdiction and your deadlines.

✓

Cancelled GSTIN? We Handle Revocation Too

A registration cancelled for non-filing is not the end of the road. We bring the pending returns up to date, clear the dues and file the revocation application in REG-21 within the permitted window, restoring suspended and cancelled GSTINs to active status.

✓

Free Health Check of Your Past Filings

Every new client receives a review of their recent returns before we file anything — unclaimed credit, GSTR-1 versus GSTR-3B drift, and exposures worth correcting quietly. Businesses in Alandur often discover in this first review exactly why their previous arrangement was costing them money.

✓

QRMP Managed Properly, Not Just Opted Into

Quarterly filing still demands monthly attention — IFF uploads so your buyers see their credit on time, and tax payment through PMT-06 by the 25th for the first two months of each quarter. We run that monthly rhythm so QRMP saves you effort without creating gaps.

✓

Familiar with Chennai Jurisdictions and Officers' Expectations

We work with Chennai GST ranges and circles every week, including the jurisdiction covering Alandur. We know how local proper officers examine registrations, what supporting documents they routinely call for, and how to present a file so it moves without repeated queries.

✓

E-Invoice and E-Way Bill Fluency

E-invoicing is mandatory once turnover crosses Rs.5 crore and e-way bills apply to goods movements above Rs.50,000. We set up, train and troubleshoot both systems, so your despatches from Alandur are never held up by a compliance gap at the gate.

✓

Transparent, Fixed Fees Quoted Upfront

You are told the full fee before we begin, in writing. No surprise additions for uploads, revisions or acknowledgements. Government fees and taxes, where applicable, are shown separately, so businesses in Alandur always know exactly what the engagement costs them.

How It Works

Our Audit Support Process

Notice review and planning

We study ADT-01 and its annexure, agree a records timetable with the audit officer where needed, and plan the engagement around the periods selected.

Pre-audit reconciliation

Before the team arrives we reconcile turnover, tax and ITC for every audit year, identifying weak areas and preparing explanations and supporting papers in advance.

Records submission

Documents are compiled, indexed and submitted in an organised form, which shortens verification and signals that the taxpayer's records are dependable.

Query management

Each audit enquiry and observation memo receives a written, evidence-backed reply, and we discuss contentious points with the audit team before findings are finalised.

Findings and closure

We review ADT-02, arrange DRC-03 payment for accepted points to limit penalty, and prepare the defence file for any finding likely to become a demand notice.

Outcomes

What You Get

Practical outcomes our clients measure us by.

★

Supplier Risk Caught Early

We spot suppliers who stop uploading invoices or filing returns and alert you before their default becomes your blocked credit, letting you recover amounts or switch vendors while the exposure is still small.

★

A Professional Face on Every Invoice

Correct, complete tax invoices signal a well-run business to customers, vendors and banks alike, quietly strengthening your credibility in every transaction where your paperwork is seen.

★

Better Cash Flow Planning

You know your expected GST outflow days before the 20th, not on the night of filing. That advance visibility lets you plan payments, collections and bank balances instead of scrambling for funds at the deadline.

★

Closure Without Loose Ends

When a business winds up, proper cancellation and a timely final return ensure the file is genuinely closed, so no demand or late-fee computation resurfaces against you long after the shutters came down.

★

Notices Answered Within the Time Limit

Statutory windows such as thirty days for an ASMT-11 reply are tracked from the day a notice arrives, so responses go in on time, complete, and with your best case properly presented.

★

Lower Total Cost of Compliance

A fixed professional fee is almost always cheaper than the combination of late fees, interest, lost credit and staff hours that informal, last-minute compliance quietly accumulates over a year.

Why a Specialist Matters

With ChennaiGST vs Doing It Yourself

AspectWith ChennaiGSTDIY / Unattended
Record keepingEvery return, challan, acknowledgement and working paper archived in an organised folder, retrievable in minutes years later.Documents scattered across email, downloads and old phones; assembling records for a bank or an audit takes days.
When a notice arrivesA professional drafts the reply in the department's format and files it within the statutory window, such as thirty days for ASMT-11.You face departmental language alone, and a missed reply deadline can convert a simple query into a demand with penalty.
Supplier defaultsSuppliers who stop uploading invoices are identified within the period and pursued before their default becomes your blocked credit.Missing supplier invoices surface only when credit is denied, by which time recovering the amount from the vendor is difficult.
Due-date trackingA maintained compliance calendar with internal cut-offs days before the 11th and the 20th; we chase you for data, not the other way around.Deadlines remembered from memory or phone alarms; one busy week and the return slips past the due date.
Goods in transitE-way bills generated correctly and matched to invoices, so consignments pass roadside inspections without detention or penalty.A defective or missing e-way bill can mean detention at a checkpoint, with penalties that dwarf the tax on the consignment.
Keeping up with changesRate changes, portal updates and new thresholds such as the Rs.5 crore e-invoice limit are tracked by us and applied to your case proactively.Changes are discovered after the fact — often through a rejected filing, a blocked e-way bill or a departmental letter.

Circular

Further clarifications on warranty replacements and extended warranty

Circular No. 216/10/2024-GST · 2024-06-26

This circular amends and supplements the earlier warranty circular. It extends the treatment from replacement of parts to replacement of goods or their parts, so that a full product replacement under warranty is covered on the same basis, with no GST and no credit reversal. It also addresses the position where a distributor replaces goods out of its own stock and is later replenished by the manufacturer, and the treatment of extended warranty sold separately after the original supply.

What it means for you: Chennai dealers who swap out an entire defective product under warranty are now expressly covered, so no output tax or credit reversal is required.

Case Law

Prohibition order modified and goods released provisionally where the department showed no supporting material

Tvl. Rising International Co. v. Commissioner of Central GST and Central Excise — Madras High Court (Madurai Bench), W.P.(MD) No. 12152 of 2020, decided 6 October 2020 (G.R. Swaminathan J.) · 2020-10-06

An importer of toys challenged seizure and prohibition orders issued during a GST inspection. The Madras High Court partly allowed the petition, sustaining the seizure but modifying the prohibition order and directing provisional release of the goods on a personal bond plus a deposit of Rs. 2 lakh. The Court noted that the officers had not produced the material on which their reason to believe was founded, and took into account the severe business disruption caused by the pandemic.

What it means for you: Seized stock can often be released provisionally on bond and a modest deposit while the investigation continues, instead of remaining locked up indefinitely.

Notification

Handicrafts re-notified at 5 per cent, with silver filigree and imitation jewellery at 3 per cent

Notification No. 13/2025-Central Tax (Rate), dated 17 September 2025 · 2025-09-17

This notification replaces the entire table in the 2018 handicrafts notification with a fresh list of about thirty-nine entries from 22 September 2025. Most items carry central tax of 2.5 per cent, that is five per cent combined: handcrafted candles, carved and inlaid wood products, wooden frames, art ware of cork and sholapith, vegetable-fibre mats and basketwork, handmade paper, papier mache articles, coir goods, handmade carpets, stone carving, ceramic and glass art ware, brass and copper art ware, wooden toys, hand paintings and original sculptures. Silver filigree work and handmade imitation jewellery, including jewellery of natural seeds and beads, carry 1.5 per cent central tax, that is three per cent combined.

What it means for you: Handicraft retailers in Chennai charge five per cent on the general run of handicraft goods, but must apply three per cent to silver filigree work and handmade imitation jewellery.

Already Holding the Notice? Read It in About a Minute

Upload the PDF to our free GST Notice Analyser. It identifies which of 34 notice types you have, pulls out the DIN, GSTIN and tax period, reads the reply date printed on the notice and tells you plainly whether that date has already passed — along with the documents and reconciliations you will need. No payment, no account. If the notice does not state a date we can read, it says so rather than guessing one for you.

Analyse my notice — free WhatsApp it to a consultant

The analyser reports what your notice says and the statutory position for that form. It is not a substitute for a consultant reading your actual records, and a reply should be reviewed before you file it.

FAQs

Frequently Asked Questions

Straight answers from practising GST consultants — based on the CGST Act, current CBIC notifications and day-to-day portal experience.

How long does departmental audit support take in Alandur?
Engagement runs through the audit, typically 1-3 months. That assumes your documents are complete and there is no departmental query. We start the same day we receive your papers and tell you the realistic completion date upfront rather than an optimistic one. Where the GST portal or the officer causes delay — clarifications, physical verification or system issues — we track it daily and keep you informed on WhatsApp.
What documents are required for departmental audit support in Alandur?
For departmental audit support you will generally need: Copy of the audit notice ADT-01 with its annexure of records, GSTR-1, GSTR-3B, GSTR-9 and GSTR-9C for the audit periods, Audited financial statements and trial balance for the audit years, Sales and purchase registers with invoice access, Input tax credit register and GSTR-2A or 2B downloads. The exact list depends on your constitution — proprietorship, partnership, LLP or company — and on the specifics of your case. Send what you have on WhatsApp to +91 - 9600 606 444 and we will confirm within the same working day exactly what else is needed, so nothing is rejected later for a missing paper.
What is the difference between GST return scrutiny and a departmental audit?
Scrutiny under Section 61 is a desk review of your filed returns, where the officer points out specific discrepancies through ASMT-10 and you explain them in ASMT-11; it is limited to what the returns reveal. An audit under Section 65 is far wider: officers examine your books of account, records and returns together, can visit your premises, and test classification, valuation, ITC eligibility and exemptions for the years covered by the ADT-01. Scrutiny can be closed with a good reconciliation; an audit needs sustained document management and negotiation over weeks. Both, if unresolved, end in Section 73 or 74 demands, so early professional handling pays.
How will I be informed of the GST audit findings?
On conclusion of the audit, the officer must inform you of the findings, your rights and obligations, and the reasons for the findings in Form ADT-02 within thirty days. Before that, most audit teams share draft observations and seek your response, which is your best window to knock out weak points with documents. If the audit detects unpaid tax or wrongly availed ITC, you can accept and pay through DRC-03, or contest, in which case the department initiates proceedings under Section 73 or Section 74. Treat the draft objection stage seriously; a strong rebuttal there often prevents a show cause notice altogether.
What documents do GST audit officers usually ask for?
Expect to produce the GSTR-1, GSTR-3B and GSTR-9 filings for the audit years, audited financial statements, trial balance, sales and purchase registers, ITC ledgers with supplier-wise detail, fixed asset register, e-way bill data, bank statements, key customer and vendor agreements, stock records and reconciliations between books and returns. Officers in Tamil Nadu commonly probe ITC on blocked credits under Section 17(5), reverse charge compliance, classification and rate issues, and turnover differences with income tax filings. Preparing a reconciliation file before submission lets you spot and voluntarily correct issues through DRC-03, which is far cheaper than an audit objection. ChennaiGST builds this file for Alandur clients.
The audit team has pointed out a tax liability. Should I pay it or contest it?
Evaluate each para on its own merits. For findings that are clearly correct, such as missed reverse charge or arithmetic ITC excess, paying through DRC-03 with interest before a show cause notice is issued avoids penalty under Section 73 and closes the para. For findings based on debatable classification, valuation or ITC interpretation, submit a reasoned rebuttal to the draft observations, because accepting them sets a precedent for future years. If the department still proceeds, contest the DRC-01 through DRC-06 and, if needed, appeal. ChennaiGST gives Alandur businesses a para-wise pay-or-fight recommendation with quantified exposure; call +91 - 9600 606 444 before you concede anything.
I received Form ADT-01 saying my business is selected for GST audit. What does it mean?
ADT-01 is the intimation that the department will conduct an audit of your records under Section 65. The notice must be issued at least fifteen working days before the audit begins and will specify the financial years covered and the documents required. The audit may happen at your place of business or at the department's office. It is a detailed examination of returns, books, ITC claims and classifications, not a routine visit. Use the fifteen-day window to reconcile your data and organise records rather than waiting for the officers to arrive. ChennaiGST provides end-to-end audit support for Alandur businesses; call +91 - 9600 606 444 early.
How long can a departmental GST audit under Section 65 go on?
The law requires the audit to be completed within three months from its commencement, which is the date the officers receive all the records they asked for. Where the Commissioner is satisfied that the audit cannot be completed in that time, he may record reasons and extend it by a further period not exceeding six months. In practice, audits drag when taxpayers supply records piecemeal, so submitting a complete, indexed set of documents at the start actually shortens the exercise. Track every submission with an acknowledgment, because the commencement date and the timeline arguments may matter later if disputes arise.
How often should I get a GST health check done for my business?
At minimum once a year, ideally between September and December, because that window still allows you to correct the previous financial year through the November return-amendment deadline and finalise a clean GSTR-9 by its 31 December due date. Businesses with turnover above Rs.5 crore, multiple registrations or heavy ITC should review quarterly, since e-invoice obligations and larger credit volumes raise the stakes. A health check is also wise before events such as applying for a large refund, receiving an ADT-01 audit intimation, or a business sale, when past compliance suddenly gets examined closely. Consistency matters more than frequency.
Can I use my input tax credit balance to pay a DRC-03 liability?
Partly. The tax component of a DRC-03 payment can be settled from the electronic credit ledger, subject to the usual cross-utilisation rules between IGST, CGST and SGST. However, interest, penalty and late fee can never be paid from credit; those components must come from the electronic cash ledger, so you may need to deposit a challan first. The portal shows both ledger balances on the payment screen and lets you split the utilisation. Planning this split correctly avoids depositing cash unnecessarily when credit is lying idle, which is a routine saving we make for clients every month.
When is GSTR-9C due and can it be filed without GSTR-9?
GSTR-9C has the same due date as GSTR-9, which is 31 December following the end of the financial year. On the portal, GSTR-9C can only be filed after GSTR-9 has been submitted for the same year, so the two are prepared together in practice. Late filing attracts late fee implications, and a missing GSTR-9C for an eligible taxpayer is an easy pick for departmental notices. Since it depends on audited financials, we advise completing your statutory audit by September so the GST reconciliation has adequate time. Call +91 - 9600 606 444 to plan the timeline.
Does buying from unregistered dealers attract reverse charge for everyone?
No. The general reverse charge on all unregistered purchases under Section 9(4) was never fully implemented and now applies only to notified classes, principally real estate. A promoter must procure at least eighty percent of inputs and input services from registered suppliers for a project; on any shortfall, the promoter pays 18 percent under RCM, and cement purchased from an unregistered dealer attracts RCM at the rate applicable to cement, 18 percent since the September 2025 rate rationalisation reduced it from 28 percent, irrespective of the eighty percent test. Transfer of development rights and long-term leases to promoters are also covered. An ordinary trader or service provider in Alandur buying stationery from an unregistered shop has no Section 9(4) liability at all.
I hold stock purchased before the September 2025 rate cuts at higher tax rates. What happens when I sell it now?
You charge the rate in force on the date of supply, so goods sold on or after 22 September 2025 carry the new lower rate even if you bought them when the rate was 12% or 28%. The input tax credit you took at the old, higher rate remains fully intact in your credit ledger and is not restricted merely because output is now taxed lower; it simply sets off across your overall liability. No stock declaration was required for this transition. What traders in Alandur must avoid is selling old-MRP stock at prices that ignore the tax cut without reviewing pricing. Call +91 - 9600 606 444 for a transition check.
What is the GST rate on a works contract for a commercial building?
Under GST, a works contract relating to immovable property is treated wholly as a supply of services, and the standard rate is 18 percent on the contract value, with the contractor eligible for input tax credit on cement, steel and other inputs. This applies to construction, fabrication, erection, repair and renovation contracts for factories, offices and commercial buildings. The old VAT-plus-service-tax splitting of material and labour is gone; one rate applies to the whole consideration. Contractors should also note that free-issue materials supplied by the client can affect valuation, so contract drafting deserves attention before quoting.
We conduct training programmes and events in different cities. Which state's GST applies?
Two rules operate. For admission to an event, including tickets to exhibitions or conferences, the place of supply is where the event is held. For organising an event or providing training, the place of supply is the registered recipient's location when the client is registered; if the client is unregistered, it shifts to the venue where the event or training is actually performed. So a Alandur trainer running a workshop in Hyderabad for a registered Chennai company charges CGST plus SGST of Tamil Nadu, but the same workshop sold to unregistered individuals is taxed in Telangana. Invoice each engagement after checking the client's registration.
What is the difference between a GST credit note and a commercial credit note?
A GST credit note is issued under Section 34, is reported in GSTR-1, and reduces your output tax, with the buyer reversing equivalent input credit. A commercial or financial credit note adjusts only the money owed between the parties; it carries no GST, is not reported in returns, and leaves everyone's tax position untouched. Businesses use commercial credit notes when the 30 November deadline has passed, or for post-supply discounts that do not satisfy the statutory conditions for a tax adjustment. Choosing the wrong instrument is a frequent audit finding, so decide the type before the note is issued.
Can one document cover both taxable and exempt items sold together?
Yes, in one specific situation. Rule 46A permits a registered person supplying both taxable and exempt goods or services to an unregistered recipient to issue a single invoice-cum-bill of supply covering the entire transaction. This saves retail counters from splitting every mixed basket into two documents. The concession applies only when the buyer is unregistered; for a registered buyer, you must still issue a tax invoice for the taxable items and a separate bill of supply for the exempt items. Supermarkets and pharmacies with mixed inventories use this format daily, and billing software handles the split automatically once configured.
What GST rate applies to cars and two-wheelers now?
Small cars, meaning petrol cars up to 1200cc and diesel cars up to 1500cc with length not exceeding 4 metres, attract 18 percent GST, down sharply from the earlier 28 percent plus cess. Larger cars, SUVs above these specifications, attract the 40 percent rate, but with the compensation cess gone, the overall burden on most of them is still lower than before. Motorcycles up to 350cc are at 18 percent, while those above 350cc attract 40 percent. Electric vehicles continue at a concessional 5 percent. Dealers must also apply these rates to demo vehicle sales.
Are there any hidden charges for departmental audit support?
No. The fee quoted before we start is the fee you pay. Government fees, portal charges or statutory late fees, where they apply, are separate and disclosed to you in advance with the exact amount. We issue a proper GST invoice for our professional fee. If the scope of work changes — for example, an unexpected notice or additional periods — we tell you the revised fee before doing anything further.
How much does departmental audit support cost in Alandur?
Our fee for departmental audit support in Alandur starts at Rs.9,999 and is quoted in full before we begin — there are no hidden charges added later. The fee covers professional work end to end: document review, preparation, filing and follow-up until completion. Government fees or portal charges, where applicable, are separate and always shown to you upfront. For an exact quote based on your turnover and business type, call +91 - 9600 606 444 and a consultant will confirm it on the call.
Can I get departmental audit support done online without visiting the office?
Yes, the entire process can be handled online. You share scanned documents on WhatsApp or email, we prepare and file everything on the GST portal, and you receive the acknowledgement and filed copies digitally. Businesses in Alandur regularly complete audit support with us without a single office visit. If a physical verification or personal hearing is required by the department, we guide you through it.
