Trade Profile and GST Jurisdiction for Babu Nagar 1st Main Road, Medavakkam

Businesses in Medavakkam looking for GSTR-1 & GSTR-3B Monthly Filing want two things: work done correctly and someone answerable when questions come. Medavakkam's junction links Velachery, Tambaram, Sholinganallur and Mambakkam, making it one of south Chennai's fastest-selling apartment markets, ringed by builders, hardware and sanitaryware dealers, supermarkets and tuition centres along Medavakkam Main Road and the Sholinganallur route. Promoters using the 1 and 5 per cent residential rates must source at least 80 per cent of inputs from registered suppliers or pay tax on the shortfall under reverse charge. We serve this belt — including Pallikaranai and Madipakkam — with fixed fees quoted upfront, a written document checklist, and filings completed ahead of statutory due dates. Every acknowledgement is shared the day it is generated, and our support continues if the department raises any query on work we have filed.

GST jurisdiction for Medavakkam (PIN 600100): businesses here generally fall under the CGST Chennai South Commissionerate. We regularly represent clients from Medavakkam before this jurisdiction for registrations, clarifications and notice hearings, and can confirm your exact division and range from your GSTIN. State-jurisdiction cases are handled with the Tamil Nadu Commercial Taxes Department.
GST for Freelancers and Consultants in Medavakkam
Freelancers discover GST quirks the hard way: tax on services is due on advance receipt itself, not on invoicing, and money paid to Google or Meta for advertising billed from overseas is an import of services on which you must pay tax under reverse charge with a self-invoice, then claim it back as credit. The department also compares receipts reported by your clients under income tax TDS with your declared GST turnover, so the two must reconcile. Consultants in Medavakkam juggling multiple clients benefit from a specialist who manages advance-tax timing, reverse charge entries and TDS-to-turnover matching before a query lands. Call +91 - 9600 606 444 for a quick review.
After GSTR-1 & GSTR-3B Monthly Filing is filed, support continues — acknowledgements are archived, upcoming due dates are tracked, and any departmental query on the work is answered, all within fees starting at Rs.749 in Medavakkam.
Why Us

Why Babu Nagar 1st Main Road, Medavakkam Businesses Choose ChennaiGST

Not a bulk-filing portal. A senior consultant knows your file, your jurisdiction and your deadlines.

Notice-Proof Filing Discipline

Most GST notices trace back to mismatches between GSTR-1, GSTR-3B and GSTR-2B. We reconcile these before filing, not after a notice arrives, so your returns are internally consistent and the most common triggers for ASMT-10 scrutiny simply never appear.

Reverse Charge Tracked, Not Forgotten

Freight paid to transporters, advocate fees, imported services and other notified supplies attract GST under reverse charge, with self-invoicing where the supplier is unregistered. We maintain a running RCM check every period, because this is the liability self-filers most consistently miss.

WhatsApp Updates at Every Stage

You receive a WhatsApp message when documents are received, when the draft is ready for your approval, and when the return or application is filed, along with the acknowledgement. You never have to call and ask what is happening with your file.

Support Through Audits and Hearings

When an ADT-01 audit intimation or a personal hearing date arrives, we compile the records, prepare the reconciliations and draft the submissions, and coordinate closely with your authorised representative. You walk into the proceeding prepared, not improvising in front of an officer.

E-Invoice and E-Way Bill Fluency

E-invoicing is mandatory once turnover crosses Rs.5 crore and e-way bills apply to goods movements above Rs.50,000. We set up, train and troubleshoot both systems, so your despatches from Medavakkam are never held up by a compliance gap at the gate.

Same-Day Response, Every Working Day

Send your query on call or WhatsApp and you hear back the same working day, usually within a few hours. When a due date is close or a notice has landed, waiting two days for a reply is simply not acceptable, and we know it.

How It Works

Our Monthly Returns Process

Monthly data collection

At month end we remind you and collect sales invoices, purchase bills and credit notes in whatever format you maintain, including Excel, Tally exports or scanned copies.

GSTR-1 preparation and filing

We prepare invoice-wise outward supply details, validate GSTINs of your B2B customers, summarise B2C supplies and file GSTR-1 on the portal before the 11th.

ITC reconciliation with GSTR-2B

We download your auto-drafted GSTR-2B, match it against purchase records, and claim only eligible input tax credit so that mismatches do not trigger scrutiny notices later.

Tax computation and confirmation

We compute net tax payable after ITC set-off, share the working with you for approval, and generate the payment challan for any cash liability.

GSTR-3B filing and reporting

After your confirmation and tax payment, we file GSTR-3B before the 20th and send you both filed acknowledgements along with a one-page summary of the month.

Outcomes

What You Get

Practical outcomes our clients measure us by.

Correct Tax the First Time

Rates, reverse charge, place of supply and blocked credits are applied correctly at the preparation stage, so you neither overpay tax you do not owe nor underpay and invite demands with penalty later.

Every Eligible Rupee of ITC Claimed

Systematic GSTR-2B matching and supplier follow-up mean input tax credit that was leaking away under self-filing is captured each month, directly reducing the cash you pay out with every GSTR-3B.

The Lowest Tax Position the Law Allows

Your scheme choice — regular, composition or QRMP — is re-examined as turnover and margins change, so you are always paying under the structure that legitimately costs your business the least.

Books and Returns That Agree at Year End

Because turnover in your GST returns is kept aligned with your accounts through the year, income tax filing and statutory audit proceed without the GST-versus-books mismatch queries that now surface routinely through data matching.

Annual Returns Without the Year-End Scramble

Because monthly data is reconciled as it happens, GSTR-9 preparation before the 31 December due date becomes a review exercise rather than a painful reconstruction of twelve untidy months.

Bank and Tender Readiness

Loan applications and government tenders routinely demand GST returns and registration documents. With everything filed and archived properly, you can produce a complete compliance file within hours instead of days.

Why a Specialist Matters

With ChennaiGST vs Doing It Yourself

AspectWith ChennaiGSTDIY / Unattended
Input tax creditPurchase register matched against GSTR-2B each period, with defaulting suppliers chased so eligible credit is actually captured.Credit claimed from books alone; mismatches with GSTR-2B mean lost credit or excess claims that invite departmental queries.
Keeping up with changesRate changes, portal updates and new thresholds such as the Rs.5 crore e-invoice limit are tracked by us and applied to your case proactively.Changes are discovered after the fact — often through a rejected filing, a blocked e-way bill or a departmental letter.
Due-date trackingA maintained compliance calendar with internal cut-offs days before the 11th and the 20th; we chase you for data, not the other way around.Deadlines remembered from memory or phone alarms; one busy week and the return slips past the due date.
Portal credentials and dataLogins handled by a small engaged team under strict confidentiality, with credentials stored securely and never passed onward.Passwords circulating on chats with freelancers and part-timers, and no accountability for who has accessed your business data.
Supplier defaultsSuppliers who stop uploading invoices are identified within the period and pursued before their default becomes your blocked credit.Missing supplier invoices surface only when credit is denied, by which time recovering the amount from the vendor is difficult.
Record keepingEvery return, challan, acknowledgement and working paper archived in an organised folder, retrievable in minutes years later.Documents scattered across email, downloads and old phones; assembling records for a bank or an audit takes days.

Circular

Salary to a whole-time director is not taxable, but independent director fees are

Circular No. 140/10/2020-GST dated 10 June 2020 · 2020-06-10

CBIC settled a much-litigated question. Remuneration paid to an independent director or any director who is not an employee of the company is taxable in the hands of the company under reverse charge. For a whole-time or executive director, the part declared as salary and on which tax is deducted under section 192 of the Income-tax Act is treated as consideration in the course of employment and is outside GST, while the part treated as professional fees with deduction under section 194J is taxable under reverse charge.

What to do about it: The income tax treatment of a director's pay now decides the GST treatment, so payroll and reverse charge working should be aligned each month.

AAR Ruling

Ladies hostel run from rented premises, with food, held taxable

Nithiyashree Ladies Hostel - AAR Tamil Nadu, Advance Ruling No. 77/AAR/2023, dated 4 September 2023 · 2023-09-04

The applicant ran a ladies hostel in premises it had itself taken on rent and supplied accommodation together with food and related services. It sought exemption on the footing that this was renting of residential accommodation. The Authority held the supply classifiable under heading 9963 and taxable at 9 percent central tax and 9 percent State tax, treating hostel accommodation with attached services as a taxable service and not as renting of a residential dwelling for use as a residence.

How we apply it: Chennai hostel and paying guest operators should not assume exemption; the outcome turns on the exact facts and on later High Court rulings.

Portal Advisory

30-day e-invoice reporting window extended to Rs 10 crore taxpayers

GSTN Advisory, November 2024 — 30-day IRP reporting limit for AATO Rs 10 crore and above · 2024-11

GSTN advised that from 1 April 2025, taxpayers with annual aggregate turnover of Rs 10 crore and above cannot report e-invoices on the Invoice Registration Portals beyond 30 days from the document date. The restriction, earlier applicable only to very large taxpayers of Rs 100 crore and above, covers invoices, credit notes and debit notes. The IRP validation simply rejects documents older than 30 days, so late reporting becomes impossible.

Practical effect: Automate same-day or same-week IRN generation, because an invoice missed beyond 30 days cannot be e-invoiced at all and endangers the buyer's ITC.

FAQs

Frequently Asked Questions

Straight answers from practising GST consultants — based on the CGST Act, current CBIC notifications and day-to-day portal experience.

How long does GSTR-1 & GSTR-3B monthly filing take in Medavakkam?
Filed before the 11th and 20th of every month. That assumes your documents are complete and there is no departmental query. We start the same day we receive your papers and tell you the realistic completion date upfront rather than an optimistic one. Where the GST portal or the officer causes delay — clarifications, physical verification or system issues — we track it daily and keep you informed on WhatsApp.
Are there any hidden charges for GSTR-1 & GSTR-3B monthly filing?
No. The fee quoted before we start is the fee you pay. Government fees, portal charges or statutory late fees, where they apply, are separate and disclosed to you in advance with the exact amount. We issue a proper GST invoice for our professional fee. If the scope of work changes — for example, an unexpected notice or additional periods — we tell you the revised fee before doing anything further.
What happens if I miss filing GSTR-3B this month?
A late fee of Rs.50 per day (Rs.20 per day for a nil return) accrues automatically, capped based on your turnover, and interest at 18 percent per annum applies on tax paid late. You also cannot file the next period's GSTR-1 until the pending GSTR-3B is filed, since returns must be filed sequentially. If two consecutive tax periods remain unfiled, e-way bill generation gets blocked, and continued default can lead to suspension of your GSTIN. File the pending return at the earliest; call +91 - 9600 606 444 and we can clear the backlog quickly.
What is the difference between GSTR-1 and GSTR-3B?
GSTR-1 is a detailed invoice-wise statement of your sales, filed by the 11th of the next month. It does not involve any tax payment but it feeds your customers' GSTR-2B for input tax credit. GSTR-3B is a self-declared summary return, due on the 20th, where you report total sales, claim input tax credit and pay the net tax in cash or through credit. Both must match; mismatches between GSTR-1 and GSTR-3B are a common trigger for notices from the department, which is why we reconcile them before every filing.
What is GSTR-2B and why does my consultant match it before filing?
GSTR-2B is an auto-drafted statement of the input tax credit available to you, generated on the 14th of every month from the GSTR-1 and IFF filings of your suppliers. Input tax credit in GSTR-3B can only be claimed for invoices appearing in GSTR-2B, so matching your purchase register against it before filing is essential. If a supplier has not uploaded an invoice, the credit must be deferred and the supplier followed up. This monthly reconciliation is included in our return filing service for businesses in Medavakkam.
Is there a deadline for declaring credit notes for a financial year?
Yes, and it is strict. A credit note relating to an invoice of a financial year must be declared in your returns by 30 November following the end of that financial year, or the date of filing the annual return, whichever is earlier. After this date, you can no longer reduce your output tax through a GST credit note for that year's invoices; any adjustment becomes purely commercial with no tax benefit. Sales returns in Medavakkam businesses often surface months later, especially season-end returns from distributors, so sweep your pending returns and disputes each October and issue the credit notes in time.
My company has taken a residential flat on rent. Why is our accountant paying GST on it?
Because of a reverse charge entry effective 18 July 2022: renting of a residential dwelling to a registered person attracts 18 percent GST payable by the tenant under reverse charge, even when the landlord is unregistered. Renting to unregistered individuals for residence remains fully exempt. There is a carve-out from 1 January 2023: a proprietor renting a dwelling in his personal capacity for use as his own residence, on his own account and not for the business, is exempt. Companies and firms renting flats, including for guest houses, must therefore pay RCM monthly through GSTR-3B. We correct many such missed entries during our compliance health checks.
I made a mistake in GSTR-3B. Can I revise it?
No, GSTR-3B cannot be revised once filed. The GST law allows corrections only through adjustments in the returns of subsequent tax periods. If you under-reported tax, pay the difference with 18 percent interest in the next GSTR-3B or through Form DRC-03. If you over-reported, adjust it in a later month within the time limits allowed. Errors in GSTR-1 can be amended in the following period's return. Because corrections have deadlines, it is best to have the error reviewed quickly; our team in Medavakkam can assess it the same day.
What is the QRMP scheme and can my business opt for it?
QRMP stands for Quarterly Return filing and Monthly Payment. Taxpayers with aggregate turnover up to Rs.5 crore in the preceding financial year can opt in. Under the scheme you file GSTR-1 and GSTR-3B once a quarter instead of every month, but you still pay tax monthly through challan PMT-06 for the first two months of the quarter. It reduces filing effort from 24 returns a year to 8, which suits most small traders and service providers in Medavakkam. We can check your eligibility and opt you in on the portal.
What is IFF in the QRMP scheme?
The Invoice Furnishing Facility (IFF) is an optional facility for QRMP taxpayers to upload B2B invoices for the first two months of a quarter, by the 13th of the following month, up to Rs.50 lakh of invoice value per month. Invoices uploaded through IFF appear in your buyers' GSTR-2B immediately, so they can claim input tax credit without waiting for your quarterly GSTR-1. If your customers are registered businesses that press for timely credit, using IFF keeps them happy. We file IFF for QRMP clients in Medavakkam as part of the standard package.
Which input tax credits are blocked under Section 17(5) even if they appear in GSTR-2B?
Section 17(5) blocks credit on specified items regardless of business use: motor vehicles for passenger transport with seating up to thirteen persons, unless used for resale, passenger transport or driver training; food and beverages and outdoor catering; club and fitness memberships; life and health insurance except where statutorily obligatory; works contract and construction services for immovable property other than plant and machinery; goods lost, stolen, destroyed, written off or given as gifts and free samples; and tax paid under composition. Reversing these while filing GSTR-3B avoids painful demands later. A blocked-credit review is part of every reconciliation ChennaiGST performs.
Can you give me a simple GST due-date calendar for my business?
For monthly filers: GSTR-1 by the 11th and GSTR-3B by the 20th of the next month. Under QRMP: optional IFF by the 13th of the next month, PMT-06 payment by the 25th, quarterly GSTR-1 by the 13th and GSTR-3B by the 22nd (Tamil Nadu) after the quarter. Composition dealers pay via CMP-08 by the 18th after each quarter and file GSTR-4 annually by 30 June. GSTR-7 and GSTR-8 are due on the 10th, and GSTR-9 and GSTR-9C by 31 December. Clients in Medavakkam receive our reminder messages before every date.
I hold stock purchased before the September 2025 rate cuts at higher tax rates. What happens when I sell it now?
You charge the rate in force on the date of supply, so goods sold on or after 22 September 2025 carry the new lower rate even if you bought them when the rate was 12% or 28%. The input tax credit you took at the old, higher rate remains fully intact in your credit ledger and is not restricted merely because output is now taxed lower; it simply sets off across your overall liability. No stock declaration was required for this transition. What traders in Medavakkam must avoid is selling old-MRP stock at prices that ignore the tax cut without reviewing pricing. Call +91 - 9600 606 444 for a transition check.
How many digits of the HSN code must I print on my tax invoices?
Under Notification 78/2020 Central Tax, taxpayers with aggregate turnover up to Rs.5 crore in the preceding financial year must mention a 4-digit HSN code on all B2B tax invoices, though it is optional on B2C invoices. Taxpayers with turnover above Rs.5 crore must mention 6-digit HSN codes on every invoice, including B2C. Eight digits are required for specified goods such as certain chemicals and for export documentation. Services follow the same rule using SAC codes, which begin with 99. Printing truncated or wrong codes on invoices creates mismatches later, so set the codes correctly in your billing software once.
I deposited money under the wrong head in my GST cash ledger. Why can the amount not be used?
The cash ledger is divided into major heads, IGST, CGST, SGST and cess, and minor heads, tax, interest, penalty, fee and others. An amount deposited under one combination, say CGST-penalty, cannot be directly used to pay under another, say IGST-tax, which is why your balance appears unusable despite money lying in the ledger. The remedy is Form PMT-09, which transfers the amount to the correct head instantly without any officer approval. Many Medavakkam taxpayers wrongly deposit a fresh challan in this situation; a two-minute PMT-09 filing saves that duplication. Call +91 - 9600 606 444 if your ledger looks stuck.
What is the penalty for running a business without GST registration?
A taxable person who is liable to register but fails to do so faces a penalty of Rs.10,000 or the amount of tax evaded, whichever is higher, under Section 122 of the CGST Act. Beyond the penalty, the department can demand the tax for the entire unregistered period with interest at 18 percent per annum, and you cannot recover that tax from customers you billed without GST. Goods moved without registration and e-way bills, required for consignments above Rs.50,000, also risk detention. If your turnover has crossed the threshold, registering within thirty days is far cheaper than regularising later.
Is GST applicable on rent for my shop or office premises?
Yes. Renting of commercial property such as shops, offices, godowns and industrial sheds is a taxable supply of services at 18 percent, charged by the landlord under forward charge once the landlord's aggregate turnover, including this rent, crosses Rs.20 lakh. The tenant, if registered and using the premises for business, can claim the GST as input tax credit, since renting is not a blocked credit. Landlords with several small commercial properties often cross the threshold without realising it, because rent from all properties on the same PAN is clubbed. A yearly turnover check protects against retrospective demands.
We conduct training programmes and events in different cities. Which state's GST applies?
Two rules operate. For admission to an event, including tickets to exhibitions or conferences, the place of supply is where the event is held. For organising an event or providing training, the place of supply is the registered recipient's location when the client is registered; if the client is unregistered, it shifts to the venue where the event or training is actually performed. So a Medavakkam trainer running a workshop in Hyderabad for a registered Chennai company charges CGST plus SGST of Tamil Nadu, but the same workshop sold to unregistered individuals is taxed in Telangana. Invoice each engagement after checking the client's registration.
What is the process for GSTR-1 & GSTR-3B monthly filing?
The process runs in clear stages: Monthly data collection; GSTR-1 preparation and filing; ITC reconciliation with GSTR-2B; Tax computation and confirmation. A senior consultant reviews your file at each stage rather than passing it to a data-entry desk, and you receive a confirmation with the filed documents once it is complete. You always know which stage your work is at — we update you on WhatsApp instead of leaving you to follow up.
Can I get GSTR-1 & GSTR-3B monthly filing done online without visiting the office?
Yes, the entire process can be handled online. You share scanned documents on WhatsApp or email, we prepare and file everything on the GST portal, and you receive the acknowledgement and filed copies digitally. Businesses in Medavakkam regularly complete monthly returns with us without a single office visit. If a physical verification or personal hearing is required by the department, we guide you through it.
Is there a GST consultant near Medavakkam for gst return filing?
Yes. We serve Medavakkam and the surrounding areas from our office at Porur, Chennai - 600 116, Tamil Nadu, and most monthly returns work is completed online — you send documents on WhatsApp and we handle the portal work. If you prefer in-person help, we offer doorstep document pickup across Medavakkam and you are welcome to visit our office. Reach us on +91 - 9600 606 444 between 9 AM and 8 PM, Monday to Saturday.
